This study examines the daily life in multi-ethnic neighbourhoods, and how people with different ethnic backgrounds live together. My research shows that positive experiences in public spaces contribute to feeling at home in a multi-ethnic neighbourhood. Not only intense and lasting contacts, but also short interactions contribute to feeling at home somewhere. By being in public space, relationships are formed with these spaces and with other people; residents feel at home and as such, integration has taken place. I therefore want to emphasize that politicians should look at the everyday realities in neighbourhoods like Lombok when discussing issues related to multi-ethnic societies. Repeatedly stressing the dichotomy between native and non-native Dutch citizens and focusing on problems, has a negative effect on the everyday lives of people because it produces and reproduces stereotyped images. I believe that integration is not only about non-native Dutch residents adapting themselves to Dutch society: it is also about the extent to which people from various backgrounds live together and feel at home in their neighbourhood.

Brinkhuijsen onderzoekt in haar dissertatie hoe recreatie in de loop van de twintigste eeuw een plek kreeg in het landschap en het landschapsontwerp, van de pioniersperiode (voor W.O. II), de massacrecreatie (jaren zestig), het recreatief medegebruik (rond 1980) to de huidige periode, die Brinkhuijsen kenmerkt met "verbreding". Ze analyseert ontwerpen die invloed hebben uitgeoefend op de manier waarop we recreatielandschappen nu zien, zoals het Amsterdamse Bos uit 1934, kleinschalige recreatielandschappen en een netwerk van fietspaden en wandelpaden in de landinrichting Oukoop-Kortrijk uit 1966, natuurontwikkelingsprojecten in het rivierengebied uit de jaren tachtig en negentig en de landschapsvisie voor de Drentsche Aa uit 2005. De achteraf wat schokkende conclusie luidt dat recreatie nauwelijks van belang is geweest in het landschapsontwerp

De toekomst van de landbouw en nieuwe functies voor en op het landelijk gebied, de voorbeelden liggen voor het oprapen. Het lokale verhaal van (nieuwe) plattelandsbewoners staan centraal in dit proefschrift. Juist daar waar veldwerk gedaan werd, brak mond- en klauwzeer uit. Het onderzoek bracht een wending: uitbreiden met hun verhalen over mkz, hun belevingen, en deze vervlechten in de bredere context van veranderingen op het platteland

Abiotic interactions occurring between dissolved humic substances, iron, and phosphate were investigated by addition of radioisotope tracers (55FeCl3 and PO43−) to surface water samples collected from catchments subjected to contrasting pH manipulations. Increases from pH 4 to circumneutral pH due to catchment liming resulted in increases in the proportions of added ionic 55Fe and 32P recovered in higher molecular size fractions following gel chromatography. Changes in ionic composition due to catchment liming did not result in marked changes in redistributions of added 55Fe and 32P. Comparatively small differences between the pH values and ionic compositions of the control and artificially acidified subcatchments of a humic lake did not result in substantial changes in the redistributions of added 55Fe and 32P.
