Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the marketing practices adopted by contractors in project-based industries to win new business and maintain relationships with existing clients. Design/methodology/approach: The authors interviewed eight such contractors, and used activity theory as a lens to analyze the results. The authors investigated project marketing activities at four stages of the project contract life cycle, and against four enablers of collaboration. Findings: The authors have identified that the service-dominant logic pervades project marketing. Through the project contract life cycle the marketing activity starts with a strategic focus, becomes tactical, then operational and returns to strategic. Project marketing involves executive managers, marketing, client or account managers and project managers. Project managers have a key responsibility for project marketing. The four enablers of collaboration, relationships, communication, going-with and trust, support each other and the entire project marketing activity. Research limitations/implications: As a contribution to theory, the authors have identified the practices adopted by contractors in project-based industries to market their competencies to clients to win new work and maintain relationships with existing clients. The authors have identified practices throughout the contract life cycle, and practices to develop collaboration. The next step will be to explain these practices in terms of traditional marketing theory. Practical implications: The results provide guidelines to contractors in project-based industries who wish to improve their marketing activity to achieve sustainable performance. Industry may also find it useful to train or coach their project managers to be conscious of their marketing role. We have found a new species of Autolytinae (Annelida, Syllidae), Proceraea janetae, feeding on the scleractinian coral Montastrea cavernosa in coral reefs surrounding the Grand Cayman Island (Cayman Islands, British West Indies). The new species has a characteristic combination of transversal brown markings on the segmental margins and diffuse white middorsal transverse bars, together with a diffuse white mid-dorsal longitudinal band. Antennae are brown, tentacular cirri are pale, the first dorsal cirri are white with pale base; the second dorsal cirri are pale, and the remaining dorsal cirri are alternately long, bright yellow-orange with brownish tips and short, entirely brown. The trepan has 18 tricuspid teeth in one ring. There are 9 teeth with all cuspids equally long and 9 with a longer median cuspid, arranged in an alternating pattern. We describe and illustrate the feeding behaviour of the new species, which appears to be closer to parasitism rather than to specialized predation. Proceraea janetae sp. nov. is the second polychaete, and the first syllid, known to feed on scleractinian corals.

Currently, the Islamic Republic of Iran seems devoted to developing a nuclear weapon. It sees itself as an ascending power in both the Middle East and the world. Furthermore, experience with the west and recent examples of regime change in the region concern Iran. The nation's dedication to perpetuating the revolutionary regime and self-sufficiency makes Iran a difficult candidate for coercion. Conversely, its rhetoric and history of activities that run counter to international norms concern other members of the global community. Desire to see a world free of nuclear weapons and apprehensions of regional instability set Iran and the United States at cross-purposes where the United States seeks options to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran. The United States uses a strategy of coercive diplomacy to pursue a policy whereby the Islamic Republic of Iran does not become nuclear-armed. Despite this decade long endeavor, evidence suggests Iran continues to move ever closer toward such a capability. Questions continue to arise regarding the ability of the U.S. or any other party to coerce Iran. A review of conditions favorable to coercive diplomacy as well as consideration of the current ways and means of the strategy highlight gaps in the strategy. Concomitantly, this review elucidates additional options that may better address strategic ends, but likely with a substantial increase in risk. Unless an unspoken grand bargain is attainable, the U.S. must likely accept exceptionally greater risk or prepare to shift to a deterrence posture.

How should the Department of Defense (DoD) execute the talent management (TM) of special operations forces (SOF) commissioned officers? The Services provide the basic TM of SOF officers at the beginning of their careers. Once officers transition to SOF, U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) monitors the training, education, assignments, and career development of SOF officers in accordance with Title 10, U.S. Code (USC). However, this TM is a collaborative effort among the Services, USSOCOM Service components, USSOCOM, the Joint Staff, and the geographic combatant commands. The thesis of this paper is that USSOCOM should execute the DoD joint SOF commissioned officers' TM program. The scope of the paper focuses on active component SOF officers in grades O-1 to O-6. The research shows the current and future DoD SOF TM processes and TM concepts in the civilian business sector by reviewing government and nongovernment sources. The research provides insights into how military and civilian organizations execute TM. In the end, the thesis recommends modifying Section 167, Chapter 6, Title 10, USC to give USSOCOM the authority to execute SOF commissioned officer TM., The original document contains color images.

In debates on the metaphysics of resurrection, it seems that philosophical theology is often arguing on the wrong fronts. While some philosophers and theologians spend their time arguing the feasibility of a person's bodily numerical identity at resurrection, whether or not a human being can exist apart from their body, or whether the resurrection is physical at all (among many other points of view) this thesis seeks to argue a more foundational issue: God's eternal/atemporal existence and how it affects the resurrection of mankind. If it can be shown that God's eternal/atemporal existence allows for a person to experience simultaneity in their death and future resurrection, then physical resurrection can be affirmed along with numerical identity between the "body sown" and "body raised," and further arguments concerning a possible disembodied existence can be declared irrelevant (among other ramifications). Motivated by two vexing passages of Scripture, Matthew 22:29-33 and Luke 23:43, this thesis wishes to provide a philosophical hermeneutic to these passages while also affirming orthodox Christian theology in its belief of a physical resurrection at the eschaton and that being physically resurrected is far better than not being physically resurrected. I will do so by (1) using Thomas Aquinas' theory of eternity and other modes of existence to account for a specific kind of simultaneity, (2) defending the Thomistic account of eternity and his other modes of existence, and (3) explaining how it is the case that, given God's eternal mode of existence, a human being's (particularly a Christian human being) death and future resurrection occur simultaneously. Hence, the theory to be so argued is termed "Simultaneous Resurrection."

The Ozarks Isoprene Experiment (OZIE) was conducted in July 1998 in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Oklahoma. OZIE was designed to investigate the presumed strong isoprene emission rates from the Missouri Ozarks, where there is a high density of oak trees that are efficient isoprene emitters. Ground, balloon, and aircraft measurements were taken over a three-week study period; 0-D and 3-D chemical models were subsequently used to better understand the observed isoprene emissions from the Ozarks and to investigate their potential regional-scale impacts. Leaf-level measurements for two oak tree species yielded normalized average isoprene emission capacities of 66 mgC g-1 h-1, in good agreement with values used in current biogenic emissions models. However, the emission capacities exhibited a temperature dependence that is not captured by commonly used biogenic emission models. Isoprene mixing ratios measured aloft from tethered balloon systems were used to estimate isoprene fluxes. These measurement-derived fluxes agreed with BEIS3 estimates within the relatively large uncertainties in the estimates. Ground-level isoprene mixing ratios exhibited substantial spatial heterogeneity, ranging from <1 to 35 ppbv. The agreement between measured isoprene mixing ratios and regional-scale chemical transport model estimates was improved upon averaging the ground-level isoprene data observed at several sites within a representative area. Ground-level formaldehyde (HCHO) mixing ratios were very high (up to 20 ppbv) and were consistently higher than mixing ratios predicted by a regional chemical transport model. The spatial distribution and magnitude of the elevated HCHO concentrations showed good agreement with GOME satellite column observations of HCHO. Copyright 2005 by the American Geophysical Union.

Yet in many organizations this ability is limited due to classifications systems that have evolved over time, rather than being actively designed as a logical, organized categorization process. In their new publicatlon, Crawford, Hobbs and Turner study the important role that categorization systems play in successful organizations, and analyze the challenges and limitations project managers face as they introduce more formal classification systems. The authors also introduce a best practice model that can be used to implement or revamp a classification system, and deliver a thought-provoking call to action, urging organizations to make better use of the knowledge acquired through the project management process.

The object of this research was to determine if the existing criteria for design of deep-draft navigation channels are adequate and to refine these criteria if possible. This study utilized free-running, remote-controlled model ships at a scale of 1:100 in order to examine deep-draft navigation channel design methods. The tanker class of ships was used in the testing program because of the wide beam and slow response to rudder commands. The scale effects of the 1:100-scale model were overcome by adjusting the model rudder until prototype performance was obtained. Prototype test results were used to make these adjustments. The model ships were equipped with a video camera and telemetry instrumentation. The straight reach tests were conducted at a depth to draft ratio of 1.2. The channel width dimension was narrowed until an unsafe condition existed. Results of the model tests for both one-way and two-way traffic indicated that the existing design criteria for design of channel dimensions for ideal conditions are conservative. However, the model indicated that only a slight reduction in channel widths (approximately 10 percent) could be made. Considering the potential damage that could result if accidents occur, especially with two-way traffic, some additional safety factors should be allowed. Because of model scale effects and inaccuracies in the facility, it does not appear prudent to revise the design criteria based on the results of this study.

A small extendible, accordion-type shelter was tested to determine its ventilation and heating characteristics, effects on the human body, insectproofing capability, and suitability for use as a medical and dental field shelter. The test item, Shelter Extendible, Small, Accordion-Type, is fabricated from nylon and aluminum. When erected, it measures 8-ft high by 8 ft wide by 20 ft long and when contained in its carrying case, it measures approximately 8 ft by 13 in. by 28 in. and weighs 171 lbs. The item was erected and exposed for 10 months to the climatic conditions occurring at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Three 22% thick airfoils were tested at Reynolds Numbers 6 to 26 X 10 6th power with roughness strips on the surfaces. Roughened airfoils showed favorable scale effects over entire range tested. Drag coefficients. Maximum lift coefficients of NACA airfoils tested were not affected by roughness strip at 20 to 30% of chord behind leading edge. Lift/draft ratio indicates superiority of NACA 63 (420)-422 airfoil and inferiority of Davis airfoil

Bismuth trifluoride was prepared as a precipitate from the addition of potassium trifluoride to a solution of bismuth nitrate dissolved in nitric acid. Infrared spectra of Nujol mulls and cesium bromide pellets containing bismuth trifluoride gave only two of the four absorption bands expected. One band was at 523 and the other a broad band at 258 wave numbers. The production of sufficient quantities of bismuth hydride (Bismuthine) for infrared study was attempted by two methods. The method used by Paneth in 1919 involved preparing a magnesium-bismuth alloy. The alloy was treated with acid; bismuth hydride was reported as one of the gaseous products evolved. The second method of production was proposed by Schaeffer in 1954. Lithium borohydride in aqueous solution was added to a solution of bismuth trichloride dissolved in hydrochloric acid. The lithium borohydride used in the attempted production of bismuth hydride by the Schaeffer method was obtained commercially and contained chlorine as an impurity. The gas from the hydrolysis reaction with sulfuric acid gave the diborane spectra. The infrared spectrum of the gas evolved from the hydrolysis of the commercial lithium borohydride with hydrochloric acid, water and sodium hydroxide is thought to be that of chlorodiborane.
