Motivated by the proposal of a Weyl-semimetal phase in pyrochlore iridates, we consider a Hubbard-type model on the pyrochlore lattice. To shed light on the question as to why such a state has not been observed experimentally, its robustness is analyzed. On the one hand, we study the possible phases when the system is doped. Magnetic frustration favors several phases with magnetic and charge order that do not occur at half filling, including additional Weyl-semimetal states close to quarter filling. On the other hand, we search for density waves that break translational symmetry and destroy the Weyl-semimetal phase close to half filling. The uniform Weyl semimetal is found to be stable, which we attribute to the low density of states close to the Fermi energy.

Durch die Nutzung von Gitter- und Niedrigenergiekontinuumsmodellen können wir Wege aufzeigen, wie man unsere Ergebnisse sowohl aus einer Festkörperphysik- als auch aus einer Hochenergiephysikperspektive verstehen kann. Insbesondere identifizieren wir eine experimentelle Signatur der chiralen Anomalie: die blaue Note, ein charakteristisches Muster in Form einer Note, das mit Hilfe von winkelaufgelöster Photoelektronenspektroskopie gemessen werden kann. Ein weiteres wichtiges Charakteristikum ist der Magnetwiderstand, der in Weyl-Semimetallen vom Winkel zwischen einem angelegten Magnetfeld und der Transportrichtung abhängt. Thus, Weyl semimetals are examples of topological semimetals, materials with protected lower-dimensional band crossing close to the Fermi surface. In this work, we show how the properties of Weyl semimetals are affected by disorder, magnetic fields, and strain. We further provide a link between Weyl semimetals and nodal line semimetals, topological semimetals with a one-dimensional Fermi surface. By using both lattice and low-energy continuum models, we present ways to understand the results from a condensed-matter and a quantum-field-theory perspective. In particular, we identify an experimental signature of the chiral anomaly: the blue note, a characteristic note-shaped pattern that can be measured in photoemission spectroscopy. Another important signature is the magnetoresistance. In Weyl semimetals, its behavior depends on the angle between the magnetic field and the transport direction. For parallel transport, a negative longitudinal magnetoresistance as a manifestation of the chiral anomaly is observed; for orthogonal transport, the transversal magnetoresistance shows a linear and unsaturated growth. In this thesis, we investigate both regimes analytically and numerically. Inspired by experiments that show a sharply peaked magnetoresistance for parallel fields, we show that the longitudinal magnetoresistance depends on the angle between applied fields and the Weyl node separation, and that it is

The consistency with Onsager's theorem is examined for commonly used perturbative approaches, such as the Redfield and second-order von Neumann master equations, for thermoelectric transport through nanostructures. We study a double quantum dot, which requires coherences between states for a correct description, and we find that these perturbative approaches violate Onsager's theorem. We show that the deviations from the theorem scale with the lead-coupling strength in an order beyond the one considered systematically in the respective approach.

Metals with excitonic instabilities are multiband systems with significant electron-electron interaction. The electronic transport in such systems is affected by collective fluctuations of the electrons, leading to anomalous features in the measured transport coefficients. Many of these anomalies have not been well understood because the transport mechanisms in these systems tend to be rather complex. The complexity arises, on the one hand, from the multiband nature and, on the other, from the anisotropic scattering of electrons accompanied by emitting or absorbing collective fluctuations. Previous works considering scattering due to collective fluctuations have mainly focused on single-band systems, for example in the context of the normal-state transport in cuprates. The recent discovery of high-temperature superconductivity in iron pnictides has renewed the interest in multiband systems. Exploring the transport mechanisms in multiband systems, I find some interesting new aspects, which do not occur in single-band systems. In particular, anisotropic scattering in a model with electronlike and holelike Fermi surfaces can lead to a negative conductivity contribution of the minority carriers, i.e., in an electric field, the minority carriers drift in the direction opposite of what one would expect based on their charge. Für die theoretische Beschreibung verschiedener Substanzen, so z.B. für diverse Kuprate die Anwendungen als Hochtemperatur-Supraleiter finden, spielt das t-J-Modell eine wichtige Rolle. In vielen Fällen kann man Abweichungen der Verbindungen vom idealen translationsinvarianten Festkörper vernachlässigen, für bestimmte Eigenschaften ist jedoch der Einfluß von Störstellen,z.B. Dotieratomen, bedeutsam. Um solche Verunreinigungen einzubeziehen, behandelt die vorliegende Arbeit das t-J-Modell mit einer zusätzlichen on-site-Energie mit über die Gitterpläte zufallsverteilten Werten. Um für dieses Modell die Einteilchen-Greensfunktion zu bestimmen, wird ein Verfahren entwickelt, welches auf der Projektionstechnik basiert und die Einbeziehung des Unordnungsterms ermöglicht. Die notwendige Mittelung über die möglichen Unordnungskonfigurationen erfolgt näherungsweise durch Faktorisierung und ist verwandt mit der sogenannten average T-matrix approximation, wird hier jedoch auf ein stark korreliertes System erweitert. Zur Illustration wird der Grundzustand von La2−xSrxCuO4 und Nd2−xCexCuO4 bei einem zusätzlichen Ladungsträger über Halbfüllung untersucht. Wie Bandstrukturrechnungen zeigen, ruft die Dotierung der elektronendotierten Substanz gerade einen solchen Zufallsterm hervor. Dies wurde in der bisherigen Literatur meist vernachlässigt. Bei der Übertragung der Bandstrukturergebnisse in die Modellparameter des t-t′-t′′-J-Modells zeigt sich, daß der Einfluß der Dotieratome bei La2−xSrxCuO4 um etwa eine Größenordnung geringer ist als in Nd2−xCexCuO4 . Als wichtige Ursache hierfür wird der Einfluß der Apex-Sauerstoffatome angesehen, die im Fall von La2−xSrxCuO4 die Seltenerd- Dotieratome gegenüber der Kupferoxidebene abschirmen. Für das mit diesen Parametern belegte Modell wird anschließend die Einteilchen- Greensfunktion berechnet, die Ausgangspunkt der Berechnung verschiedener Observablen ist. Die für die elektronendotierte Substanz auftretende lokale Mode gibt zu dem Vorschlag, The t-J-Modell can be applied to several classes of materials, e.g. high-Tc cuprate superconductors. Often translational invariance can be assumed, but sometimes it is necessary to take into account the effects of the doping atoms at randomly distributed sites. Therefore a t-J-Modell with an additional randomly distributed on-site energy is investigated. To calculate the one-particle Green’s function considering this term of disorder, a method is developed which bases on projection technique. The average over the possible configurations of the dopand atoms is approximated by factorization and is similar to the so-called average T-matrix approximation. Here it is extended to a model with strong correlations. In order to illustrate the methode the single-particle ground state of La2−xSrxCuO4 and Nd2−xCexCuO4 is analyzed. Band-structure calculations exhibit that for the electron-doped case the doping atoms (in first approximation) induce indeed a term of disordered on-site energies. The transformation of the values of this energies at the copper sites into the parameters in the t − t′ − t′′ − J-model shows that the influence of doping in La2−xSrxCuO4 is by about an order of magnitude smaller than in Nd2−xCexCuO4 . The existence of apex oxygen atoms between the rare-earth plane and the copper-oxygen plane in La2−xSrxCuO4 is one important reason for that effect. The single-particle Greens function for the t-t′-t′′-J-model with these parameters is calculated. A local mode appears in the electron-doped case, which suggests that the differences of the stability of the antiferromagnetic phases in both compounds are not only due to the type of charge carriers but also due to the structure of the unit cell.

Für das mit diesen Parametern belegte Modell wird anschließend die Einteilchen- Greensfunktion berechnet, die Ausgangspunkt der Berechnung verschiedener Observablen ist. Therefore a t-J-Modell with an additional randomly distributed on-site energy is investigated. To calculate the one-particle Green’s function considering this term of disorder, a method is developed which bases on projection technique. The average over the possible configurations of the dopand atoms is approximated by factorization and is similar to the so-called average T-matrix approximation. Here it is extended to a model with strong correlations. In order to illustrate the methode the single-particle ground state of La2−xSrxCuO4 and Nd2−xCexCuO4 is analyzed. Band-structure calculations exhibit that for the electron-doped case the doping atoms (in first approximation) induce indeed a term of disordered on-site energies. The transformation of the values of this energies at the copper sites into the parameters in the t − t′ − t′′ − J-model shows that the influence of doping in La2−xSrxCuO4 is by about an order of magnitude smaller than in Nd2−xCexCuO4 . The existence of apex oxygen atoms between the rare-earth plane and the copper-oxygen plane in La2−xSrxCuO4 is one important reason for that effect. The single-particle Greens function for the t-t′-t′′-J-model with these parameters is calculated. A local mode appears in the electron-doped case, which suggests that the differences of the stability of the antiferromagnetic phases in both compounds are not only due to the type of charge carriers but also due to the structure of the unit cell.
