The decreasing size of modern functional magnetic materials and devices cause a steadily increasing demand for high resolution quantitative magnetic characterization. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) based measurements of the electron energy-loss magnetic chiral dichroism (EMCD) may serve as the needed experimental tool. To this end, we present a reliable and robust electron-optical setup that generates and controls user-selectable single state electron vortex beams with defined orbital angular momenta. Our set-up is based on a standard high-resolution scanning TEM with probe aberration corrector, to which we added a vortex generating fork aperture and a miniaturized aperture for vortex selection. We demonstrate that atom size probes can be formed from these electron vortices and that they can be used for atomic resolution structural and spectroscopic imaging - both of which are prerequisites for future atomic EMCD investigations.

Sub-Angstrom TEM of materials at intermediate voltages requires a sub-Angstrom information limit for the microscope. With a Scherzer resolution of 1.7 Angstrom, but a sub-Angstrom information limit, the one-Angstrom microscope (OAM) project at the NCEM is able to generate resolution below 0.8 Angstrom. Microscope information limit comes from damping of transfer by the temporal coherence. A major term contributing to temporal coherence is energy spread in the electron beam. We derive a new expression for the energy spread, and show how it can be measured from the result that is obtained using a standard electron spectrometer.

Nepřesnosti při výrobě a sestavení rotačně souměrné čočky a deflektrou a jejich přesného zařazení do elektronově optického systému se projeví jako dodatečné pole příslušné symetrie, které deformuje ideální zobrazení. Tato dodatečná pole dokážeme spočítat pomocí metody konečných prvků v programu EOD. Toleranční analýza spočívá ve stanovení požadavků na rozměry a sestavení jednotlivých prvků a jejich částí. Korekce vad seřízení pak spočívá v určení typu a polohy korekčních vychylovacích cívek a multipólů tak, aby se tyto dodatečné vady odstranily, nebo aby se minimalizoval jejich vliv. Cílem disertační práce je analýza projevů vad seřízení a chování neseřízených systémů prozařovacích elektronových mikroskopů., Inaccuracies in the production and assembling of rotationally symmetric lenses and deflectors and their accurate positioning in the electron optical system can be treated as an additional field with specific type of symmetry. The additional fields can be evaluated with the help of the finite element method in the program EOD. Tolerance analysis allows evaluation of the requirements on the dimensions and position of individual elements and their parts. Elimination of misalignment aberrations consists in determining the type and position of correcting deflection coils and multipoles so that these additional aberrations are removed or their effect is minimized. The aim of the dissertation is the analysis of the effect of misalignment aberrations and behavior of misaligned systems of transmission electron microscopes.
