Visualizing the network of a solvent-swollen polymer gel remains problematic. To address this challenge, open transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was applied to thin gel films permeated by a nonvolatile ionic liquid. The targeted physical gels were prepared by cooling concentrated solutions of poly(ethylene glycol) in 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium ethyl sulfate [EMIM][EtSO4]. During the cooling, gelation occurred by a frustrated crystallization of the dissolved polymer, leading to a percolated, solvent-permeated semicrystalline network in which nanoscale polymer crystals acted as crosslinks. Crystalline features ranging from ~5 to ~200 nm were observed, with the visible network strands dominantly consisting of long curvilinear crystallites of ~15–20 nm diameter. Nascent spherulites irregularly decorated the network, creating a complex structural hierarchy that complicated analyses. Lacking diffraction contrast, TEM did not visualize the many disordered, fully solvated PEG chains present in the voids between crystals. Recognizing that a network's three dimensionality is ambiguous when assessed through two-dimensional microscopy projections, a small gel region was studied by TEM tomography, revealing a nearly isotropic three-dimensional arrangement of the curvilinear crystallites, which displayed remarkably uniform cylindrical cross sections.

For 14 days, the HAUU (250 and 500 mg/kg, po) was given orally to distinct groups of 20–25-weight Swiss albino mice in order to conduct TST and FST testing. The presence of alkaloids, glycosides, phenols, flavonoids, and tannins was discovered through phytochemical examination. The HAUU demonstrated a dose-dependent decrease in the amount of time that mice were immobile. Mice's immobility duration was considerably shortened in both the FST and TST when 500 mg/kg of HAUU was administered. The extract's effectiveness was discovered to be on par with fluoxetine (20 mg mg/kg, po). It was discovered that when given orally at a dose of 2000 mg/kg, it was toxicologically safe and did not cause any mouse deaths. The results of the current investigation indicate that the HAUU is toxicologically safe and has strong antidepressant activity, as demonstrated by the TST and FST tests. Integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with terrestrial networks can enable high-speed communication in various applications. UAVs can serve as aerial base stations (ABSs), offering several benefits to the existing terrestrial networks, such as enhanced coverage, increased capacity, rapid deployment, and mobile communication support. However, this integration presents various technical challenges, including coordination, interference management, and dynamic allocation of resources. To address these key challenges, in this paper, we maximize the network utility by jointly optimizing the scheduling and cell association, transmit power of all base stations, and ABS deployment locations in the presence of co-channel interference. A two-stage approach is proposed to obtain a solution. In the first stage, we propose a heuristic solution by using the clustering algorithm to determine the initial ABS locations and user scheduling while ignoring the co-channel interference. In the second stage, we utilize the solution obtained in the first part and develop an interference-aware iterative scheme to jointly optimize user scheduling, resource allocation, and ABS placement. Given the non-convex nature of this problem, we employ the successive convex approximation technique to approximate the non-convex objectives and constraints. Numerical results show the proposed approach's insights and effectiveness over other schemes. We formed core-shell-like polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) from an anionic bottlebrush polymer with poly (acrylic acid) side chains with a cationic linear poly (allylamine hydrochloride). By varying the pH, the number of side chains of the polyanionic BB polymers (Nbb), the charge density of the polyelectrolytes, and the salt concentration, the phase separation behavior and salt resistance of the complexes could be tuned by the conformation of the BBs. By combining the linear/bottlebrush polyelectrolyte complexation with all-liquid 3D printing, flow-through tubular constructs were produced that showed selective transport across the PEC membrane comprising the walls of the tubules. These tubular constructs afford a new platform for flow-through delivery systems.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been enormously gaining attention to offload traffic or collect data in wireless networks due to their key attributes, such as mobility, flexibility, and cost-effective deployment. However, the limited onboard energy inhibits the UAV from serving for a longer duration. Therefore, this article studies a UAV-aided network where multiple UAVs are launched to collect data from the mobile nodes. In particular, we aim to maximize the service time of the UAVs by jointly optimizing the three-dimensional (3D) trajectory of the UAVs and resources allocated to each node by the UAVs such that each mobile node receives a minimum specified data rate. To facilitate a solution, we construct an equivalent problem that considers the UAV's energy consumption. In particular, we minimize the maximum energy consumed by the UAVs in each time slot. To solve the problem, an iterative approach is presented that decouples the problem into two sub-problems. The optimal location of the UAVs is computed in the first sub-problem, while resource allocation is carried out in the second sub-problem. These two sub-problems are solved in an iterative manner using the alternating optimization approach. Self-organization in continuous systems is associated with dissipative processes. In particular, for magnetized plasmas, it is known as magnetic relaxation, where the magnetic energy is converted into heat and kinetic energy of flow through the process of magnetic reconnection. An example of such a system is the solar corona, where reconnection manifests as solar transients like flares and jets. Consequently, toward investigation of plasma relaxation in solar transients, we utilize a novel approach of data-constrained MHD simulation for an observed solar flare. The selected active region NOAA 12253 hosts a GOES M1.3 class flare. The investigation of extrapolated coronal magnetic field in conjunction with the spatiotemporal evolution of the flare reveals a hyperbolic flux tube (HFT), overlying the observed brightenings. MHD simulation is carried out with the EULAG-MHD numerical model to explore the corresponding reconnection dynamics. The overall simulation shows signatures of relaxation. For a detailed analysis, we consider three distinct sub-volumes. We analyze the magnetic field line dynamics along with time evolution of physically relevant quantities like magnetic energy, current density, twist, and gradients in magnetic field. In the terminal state, none of the sub-volumes are seen to reach a force-free state, thus remaining in non-equilibrium, suggesting the possibility of further relaxation. We conclude that the extent of relaxation depends on the efficacy and duration of reconnection, and hence, on the energetics and time span of the flare.

There is currently considerable excitement within government about the potential of artificial intelligence to improve public service productivity through the automation of complex but repetitive bureaucratic tasks, freeing up the time of skilled staff. Here, we explore the size of this opportunity, by mapping out the scale of citizen-facing bureaucratic decision-making procedures within UK central government, and measuring their potential for AI-driven automation. We estimate that UK central government conducts approximately one billion citizen-facing transactions per year in the provision of around 400 services, of which approximately 143 million are complex repetitive transactions. We estimate that 84% of these complex transactions are highly automatable, representing a huge potential opportunity: saving even an average of just one minute per complex transaction would save the equivalent of approximately 1,200 person-years of work every year. We also develop a model to estimate the volume of transactions a government service undertakes, providing a way for government to avoid conducting time consuming transaction volume measurements. Finally, we find that there is high turnover in the types of services government provide, meaning that automation efforts should focus on general procedures rather than services themselves which are likely to evolve over time. Overall, our work presents a novel perspective on the structure and functioning of modern government, and how it might evolve in the age of artificial intelligence.

In recent years, large-scale adoption of cloud storage solutions has revolutionized the way we think about digital data storage. However, the exponential increase in data volume, especially images, has raised environmental concerns regarding power and resource consumption, as well as the rising digital carbon footprint emissions. The aim of this research is to propose a methodology for cloud-based image storage by integrating image compression technology with SuperResolution Generative Adversarial Networks (SRGAN). Rather than storing images in their original format directly on the cloud, our approach involves initially reducing the image size through compression and downsizing techniques before storage. Upon request, these compressed images will be retrieved and processed by SRGAN to generate images. The efficacy of the proposed method is evaluated in terms of PSNR and SSIM metrics. Additionally, a mathematical analysis is given to calculate power consumption and carbon footprint assesment. AimsHaematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a potentially curative therapy for several malignant and non-malignant haematologic conditions. Patients undergoing HSCT are at an increased risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF). We hypothesized that a diagnosis of AF would be associated with poor outcomes in patients undergoing HSCT.Methods and resultsThe National Inpatient Sample (2016-19) was queried with ICD-10 codes to identify patients aged >50 years undergoing HSCT. Clinical outcomes were compared between patients with and without AF. A multivariable regression model adjusting for demographics and comorbidities was used to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and regression coefficients with corresponding 95% confidence intervals and P-values. A total of 50 570 weighted hospitalizations for HSCT were identified, out of which 5820 (11.5%) had AF. Atrial fibrillation was found to be independently associated with higher inpatient mortality (aOR 2.75; 1.9-3.98; P < 0.001), cardiac arrest (aOR 2.86; 1.55-5.26; P = 0.001), acute kidney injury (aOR 1.89; 1.6-2.23; P < 0.001), acute heart failure exacerbation (aOR 5.01; 3.54-7.1; P < 0.001), cardiogenic shock (aOR 7.73; 3.17-18.8; P < 0.001), and acute respiratory failure (aOR 3.24; 2.56-4.1; P < 0.001) as well as higher mean length of stay (LOS) (+2.67; 1.79-3.55; P < 0.001) and cost of care (+67 529; 36 630-98 427; P < 0.001).ConclusionAmong patients undergoing HSCT, AF was independently associated with poor in-hospital outcomes, higher LOS, and cost of care.

The bottom-up generation of lipid membranes from minimal precursors is a key objective in synthetic biology research. In living cells, the synthesis of lipid assemblies is ubiquitously coordinated by several membrane-bound enzymes. However, these pathways are tough to replicate, owing to the difficulty of reconstituting the enzymes in vitro. Lipid membrane synthesis from simple metabolic building blocks remains challenging. We demonstrate a chemoenzymatic schematic for lipid membrane generation, utilizing a bacterial fatty acid synthase (cgFAS I) to synthesize palmitoyl-CoA in situ from acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA as precursors. Palmitoyl-CoA spontaneously reacts with a cysteine-modified lysophospholipid via native chemical ligation (NCL), generating noncanonical amidophospholipids that self-assemble into micron-sized membranes. The results demonstrate that combining the specificity and efficiency of a type I fatty acid synthase with a selective bioconjugation reaction provides a biomimetic route for the de novo formation of membrane-bound vesicles. Utilizing this route, we further investigate the application of non-amphiphilic, minimal precursor pathway to generate lipid membranes. We explore the use of acetate as the carbon feedstock for the chemoenzymatic reaction strategy, generation palmitoyl-CoA in situ and coupling it with small molecule head group such as cysteine to form phospholipid analogs. Ubiquitous enzymes acetyl-CoA synthetase (ACS) from E. coli was used to generate acetyl-CoA from acetate and human acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) was used to then synthesize malonyl-CoA from acetyl-CoA. Additionally, cgFAS catalyzed the in situ generation of palmitoyl-CoA from acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA. On the other hand, the process of reading itself has various aspects to look at. For example, a reader always has more than one perspective available to analyse and interpret a text. And it is necessary that a text is read and analysed using these different perspectives, so that the meaning one gets after such a reading is not narrow or obscure. Specially the reading of a literary text needs some extra attention. Here, the language is mostly minutely used, and there are qualities which are different and mostly superior to other common texts. At the same time, sometimes, the kind of meaning which is produced also depends on the reader. A common reader without expertise may come up with some simple meaning. But, at the same time, a scholarly reader may come up with some complex meaning of the same text. Thus, there is always a possibility that the same text may have different meanings by different authors. The present paper focuses on the common readers’ reading of the texts and the different kinds and stages of reading as put forth by Derek Attridge in his works The Work of Literature and The Singularity of Literature, respectively. All these adaptations focus on different aspects of the original texts, and come up with some entirely new movies which at times have the Shakespearean elements in them. The plots, settings and the timelines are of course different, but they make Shakespeare’s dramas available to a wider audience across different cultures. Maqbool is such a movie adaptation in Hindi, directed by Indian film-director, Vishal Bhardwaj. The movie relates to the incidents and events from Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, though it has entirely new flavours of its own as a typical Bollywood movie. Like Shakespeare’s plays, these movies also have something to offer to the critics. A close analysis of such adaptations, in relation to the original textual creations, can bring forth many new critical perspectives. This article aims at analysing the movie, Maqbool from the perspective of cultural materialism where it tries to bring out that how the movie interrelates with the contemporary social and political situations of the time which it depicts. There are certain hidden structures in the movie which remain unearthed when watched without critical eyes. The paper attempts a cultural materialist reading of Maqbool to bring out such hidden aspects of the movie.

[Abstract] In cells, a vast number of membrane lipids are formed by the enzymatic O-acylation of polar head groups with acylating agents such as fatty acyl-CoAs. Although such ester-containing lipids appear to be a requirement for life on earth, it is unclear if similar types of lipids could have spontaneously formed in the absence of enzymatic machinery at the origin of life. There are few examples of enzyme-free esterification of amphiphiles in water and none that can occur in water at physiological pH using biochemically relevant acylating agents. Here we report the unexpected chemoselective O-acylation of 1,2-amino alcohol amphiphiles in water directed by Cu(II) and several other transition metal ions. In buffers containing Cu(II) ions, mixing biological 1,2-amino alcohol amphiphiles such as sphingosylphosphorylcholine with biochemically relevant acylating agents, namely, acyl adenylates and acyl-CoAs, leads to the formation of the O-acylation product with high selectivity. The resulting O-acylated sphingolipids self-assemble into vesicles with markedly different biophysical properties than those formed from their N-acyl counterparts. We also demonstrate that Cu(II) can direct the O-acylation of alternative 1,2-amino alcohols, including prebiotically relevant 1,2-amino alcohol amphiphiles, suggesting that simple mechanisms for aqueous esterification may have been prevalent on earth before the evolution of enzymes.

The methodology relies on measuring the phase difference between two digitally reconstructed complex wave fields and utilizing the temperature coefficient of the refractive index. In this way, we presented an equation of the temperature as a function of phase changes and the temperature coefficient of refractive index. This approach simplifies the calculation process and avoids the burden of complicated mathematical inversions, such as the inverse Abel transformation. It also eliminates the need for additional work with the Lorentz–Lorentz equation and Gladstone–Dale relation and can be extend for 3D measurements.

AimsTo determine outcomes in atrial fibrillation patients undergoing percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) based on the underlying stroke risk (defined by the CHA2DS2-VASc score).Methods and resultsData were extracted from the National Inpatient Sample for calendar years 2016-20. Left atrial appendage occlusion implantations were identified on the basis of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification code of 02L73DK. The study sample was stratified on the basis of the CHA2DS2-VASc score into three groups (scores of 3, 4, and ≥5). The outcomes assessed in our study included complications and resource utilization. A total of 73 795 LAAO device implantations were studied. Approximately 63% of LAAO device implantations occurred in patients with CHA2DS2-VASc scores of 4 and ≥5. The crude prevalence of pericardial effusion requiring intervention was higher with increased CHA2DS2-VASc score (1.4% in patients with a score of ≥5 vs. 1.1% in patients with a score of 4 vs. 0.8% in patients with a score of 3, P < 0.01). In the multivariable model adjusted for potential confounders, CHA2DS2-VASc scores of 4 and ≥5 were found to be independently associated with overall complications [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 1.26, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.18-1.35, and aOR 1.88, 95% CI 1.73-2.04, respectively] and prolonged length of stay (aOR 1.18, 95% CI 1.11-1.25, and aOR 1.54, 95% CI 1.44-1.66, respectively).ConclusionA higher CHA2DS2-VASc score was associated with an increased risk of peri-procedural complications and resource utilization after LAAO. These findings highlight the importance of patient selection for the LAAO procedure and need validation in future studies.

Caraka has stated that the diagnosis is very important and essential before proceeding to medicine prescription. Āyurvedic way of diagnosis has two basic components namely ‘Roga Pariksha’ and ‘Rogi Pariksha’, which refers to Examination of disease and Examination of patient respectively. Among them Roga Pariksha gives us the detailed knowledge about a disease starting from the etiological aspects to the actual manifestation of disease. All three Brihatrayis mention Nidana Sthana but the explanation of Nidana Panchaka, Nidanarthakara Roga, Utpatti of diseases etc. were first given in Caraka Nidana Sthana. The five basic components of Roga Pariksha are Nidāna, Purvarupa, Rupa, Upashaya and Samprapti, which are collectively known as ‘Nidāna Panchaka’. Apart from diagnosing a disease, they also play a key role in planning the treatment of that disease. Ācārya Caraka has stated plenty of concepts while describing the eight chapters of Nidāna sthāna. So, in the present study along with the concept of Nidāna, the Nidāna sthāna of Caraka Saṃhita were critically analyzed.

Debris flows are geomorphological processes that affect the landscape evolution process of any region. In this study, an integrated methodology is proposed to identify the chance of further debris flows and quantify the similarities between debris flow locations, materials and rheology, using field and laboratory investigations and remote sensing data. The method was tested for four failure-triggered debris flow sites in the Western Ghats of India, using dimensionless parametric similarity values ranging from 0 to 1. The maximum parametric similarity was observed as 0.84 when comparing the flow accumulation values of Sites 3 and 4, and the maximum overall site similarity was 0.68. The calibrated rheological parameters of one site were found to be satisfactory in modelling the shape of debris flow at all other sites. The findings can be used to identify similar hotspots in the region and to simulate debris flows for quantitative hazard assessment.

Magnetic flux ropes (MFRs) play an important role in high-energetic events like solar flares and coronal mass ejections in the solar atmosphere. Importantly, solar observations suggest an association of some flaring events with quadrupolar magnetic configurations. However, the formation and subsequent evolution of MFRs in such magnetic configurations still need to be fully understood. In this paper, we present idealized magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations of MFR formation in a quadrupolar magnetic configuration. A suitable initial magnetic field having a quadrupolar configuration is constructed by modifying a three-dimensional (3D) linear force-free magnetic field. The initial magnetic field contains neutral lines, which consist of X-type null points. The simulated dynamics initially demonstrate the oppositely directed magnetic field lines located across the polarity inversion lines (PILs) moving towards each other, resulting in magnetic reconnections. Due to these reconnections, four highly twisted MFRs form over the PILs. With time, the foot points of the MFRs move towards the X-type neutral lines and reconnect, generating complex magnetic structures around the neutral lines, thus making the MFR topology more complex in the quadrupolar configuration than those formed in bipolar loop systems. Further evolution reveals the non-uniform rise of the MFRs. Importantly, the simulations indicate that the pre-existing X-type null points in magnetic configurations can be crucial to the evolution of the MFRs and may lead to the observed brightenings during the onset of some flaring events in the quadrupolar configurations., Comment: 18 pages, 9 figures

We present a novel Hall magnetohydrodynamics (HMHD) numerical simulation of a three-dimensional (3D) magnetic flux rope (MFR) -- generated by magnetic reconnections from an initial 3D bipolar sheared field. Magnetic reconnections during the HMHD evolution are compared with the MHD. In both simulations, the MFRs generate as a consequence of the magnetic reconnection at null points which has not been realized in contemporary simulations. Interestingly, the evolution is faster and more intricate in the HMHD simulation. Repetitive development of the twisted magnetic field lines (MFL) in the vicinity of 3D nulls (reconnection site) is unique to the HMHD evolution of the MFR. The trend towards electrification presents new challenges in bearing design. One such consideration is the occurrence of electrical discharge contact pathways, which can lead to surface damage. The current study presents a novel comprehensive multiphysics model, incorporating bearing dynamics, mechanics of lubricated rolling element-to-races contacts and electrical contact model for both DC and AC voltages. The model also includes both electrical resistance and capacitance effects in the bearing contacts. Key bearing vibration frequencies such as cage frequency and the bearing base natural frequency along with the voltage supply frequency are observed as influential in the electric current discharge. The developed model enables the prediction of rhythmic fluting patterns commonly observed in the failed bearing applications subject to electrical discharge.

The present research article focuses on Bollywood movie Maqbool (2004), the Hindi language movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous play Macbeth (1606). Shakespeare’s plays have become available in the cinematic adaptations in many different languages across the globe. All these adaptations focus on different aspects of the original texts, and come up with some entirely new movies which at times have the Shakespearean elements in them. The plots, settings and the timelines are of course different, but they make Shakespeare’s dramas available to a wider audience across different cultures. Maqbool is such a movie adaptation in Hindi, directed by Indian film-director, Vishal Bhardwaj. The movie relates to the incidents and events from Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, though it has entirely new flavours of its own as a typical Bollywood movie. Like Shakespeare’s plays, these movies also have something to offer to the critics. A close analysis of such adaptations, in relation to the original textual creations, can bring forth many new critical perspectives.
