Petit Four Squash aims to provide a flavoursome yet healthy and beneficial dessert for everyone, especially for those not fond of eating foods with vegetables included in its ingredients. The product's primary purpose is to keep its consumers healthy, even if it is a dessert, while the primary purpose of this study is to check if Squash is applicable and acceptable to include and use as an ingredient in baking a cake. Petit Four Squash consists of vegetables and some essential ingredients in baking a cake, like an egg. It is made for persons who are more of a carnivore and those who do not like eating foods with vegetables. The researchers utilize a quantitative research design.    This research used stratified sampling because of the division of the respondents according to their demographic profile (age, gender, section, etc.). The respondents' rate for the sensory acceptability of squash in baking cake is highly acceptable; the aroma, taste, colour and texture of the Petit Four Squash appeared appropriate and acceptable. Changing climates are altering the structural and functional components of forest ecosystems at an unprecedented rate. Simultaneously, we are seeing a diversification of public expectations on the broader sustainable use of forest resources beyond timber production. As a result, the science and art of silviculture needs to adapt to these changing realities. In this piece, we argue that silviculturists are gradually shifting from the application of empirically derived silvicultural scenarios to new sets of approaches, methods and practices, a process that calls for broadening our conception of silviculture as a scientific discipline. We propose a holistic view of silviculture revolving around three key themes: observe, anticipate and adapt. In observe, we present how recent advances in remote sensing now enable silviculturists to observe forest structural, compositional and functional attributes in near-real-time, which in turn facilitates the deployment of efficient, targeted silvicultural measures in practice that are adapted to rapidly changing constraints. In anticipate, we highlight the importance of developing state-of-the-art models designed to take into account the effects of changing environmental conditions on forest growth and dynamics. In adapt, we discuss the need to provide spatially explicit guidance for the implementation of adaptive silvicultural actions that are efficient, cost-effective and socially acceptable. We conclude by presenting key steps towards the development of new tools and practical knowledge that will ensure meeting societal demands in rapidly changing environmental conditions. This paper aims to propose a methodology for conducting third-party risk-based due diligence in an engineering and construction company. A case study presents the methodology for a multinational firm. Due diligence is necessary and often mandatory, depending on the client or project. It protects a company in case of an ill-intentioned third party conducting misconduct while under contract or relationship with the company, but has been overlooked in many industries, resulting in ethics- and compliance-related misconduct. This study reveals that risk-based due diligence methodology has been widely applied and discussed by brokers and accountants, but that no research has verified whether the methodology applies to the construction and engineering industry. The case study also highlights the importance of knowing and understanding the company’s business model, its appetite for risk, and its global interactions within its industry. The proposed methodology enables risk assessment and due diligence covering integrity-related risks among third parties. By adapting the model to their reality, construction and engineering companies manage third parties’ risks related to corruption and bribery, antitrust and competition, human rights, conflicts of interest, and compliance with regulations. The expected result of the methodology is a risk-tailored and resource-efficient process for conducting third-party due diligence in the construction and engineering industry.

This article aims to investigate the integrity-related risks for companies engaging with third parties in the construction and civil engineering industry. The business partner compliance process of a multinational construction engineering company is assessed through internal interviews with integrity officers per business sector and per region in a static and dynamic strategy framework. The actual process is the internal evaluation of a ready-made tool bought from a service supplier that assesses how the risks related to corruption are covered in order to determine the level of due diligence necessary when engaging with a specific third party. This study finds that companies must involve their own experts to improve integrity tools. Collecting expert opinions on risk is necessary to allow an improved understanding of the scope of the tool. This study reflects on new ways for improving the integrity tool and demonstrates the necessity to cover risks not solely associated with corruption and bribery, but also with human rights, conflict of interest, antitrust and competition, as well as compliance with regulations to fully protect a company’s integrity.

Le réseau de facteurs de transcription Myc/Max/Mad comporte plusieurs membres qui contiennent tous un domaine de liaison à l’ADN et de dimérisation appelé b-HLH-LZ. De ce domaine, la région basique est la principale responsable de la liaison à l’ADN tandis que le HLH-LZ permet la dimérisation de façon spécifique et peut stabiliser le dimère formé. De ce réseau, il est possible de dire que Max est le membre central puisqu’il est généralement accepté qu’il doive dimériser avec Myc ou Mad pour que ceux-ci puissent remplir leurs fonctions. Pour Myc, il s’agit dans la majeure partie des cas d’activer la transcription de ses gènes cibles, c’est-à-dire les gènes ayant un E-box dans leur promoteur. Lorsque ce facteur de transcription est dérégulé, ce qui pourrait survenir dans environ 70 % des cancers, il occupe les promoteurs de gènes spécifiques ou non et active leur transcription de façon dérégulée. Max, par sa capacité à former des hétérodiméres avec Myc permet à ce dernier d’activer la transcription, il peut aussi homodimériser et agir de manière compétitive avec l’hétérodimère pour l’occupation des sites promoteurs et ainsi empêcher leur activation. Des travaux réalisés par l’équipe du Pr Lavigne ont démontré que le b-HLH-LZ de Max a la capacité de pénétrer à l’intérieur des cellules cibles par endocytose et d’inhiber l’activité transcriptionnelle de Myc. Des résultats non publiés ont aussi démontré qu’un variant de ce domaine b-HLH-LZ possède la capacité à livrer un court fragment d’ARN mais que cet ARN demeure piégé dans les endosomes. D’autres variants du domaine b-HLH-LZ de Max ont été générés, purifiés et caractérisés par dichroïsme circulaire pour leur capacité à lier l’ARN. Ces variants de Max ont par la suite été testés pour leurs effets inhibiteurs sur la prolifération cellulaire et analysés par microscopie confocale pour leur capacité à délivrer un ARN couplé à un fluorophore au niveau cytoplasmique. Les variants de Max ayant la capacité à délivrer un ARN in, The Myc/Max/Mad transcription factor network is comprised of a range of members, each one of them having a DNA binding and dimerization domain termed b-HLH-LZ. From that domain, the basic region is key in mediating DNA binding, whereas the HLH-LZ is responsible for the specific dimerization and imparts stability to the formed dimer. It is generally accepted that dimerization with Max is required by either Myc or Mad for them to complete their functions, indicating that Max exerts a central role in this network. For Myc, those functions are mostly the transcriptional activation of its target genes, i. e. genes having an E-box in their promoter. When deregulated, which is believed to happen in up to 70% of all cancers, Myc starts to occupy non-specific promoter sites in addition to its specific binding sites, thus activating the transcription of its target genes as well as other non-desired ones in a deregulated fashion. By its capacity to form heterodimers with Myc, Max modulates the transcriptional activity of Myc. However, Max can also form homodimers and thus compete with the heterodimers for promoter occupancy and then inhibit their functional activity. Previous work realized by the team of Prof. Lavigne has shown the Max b-HLH-LZ can enter into cells by endocytosis and inhibit Myc transcriptional activities. Unpublished results have also shown the ability of a variant of the Max b-HLH-LZ to carry siRNA inside cells, that siRNA seeming not properly released after entry. Starting from there, more b-HLH-LZ variants were generated, purified and evaluated by circular dichroism for their ability to bind RNA. Those Max variants were then tested for their ability to inhibit cell proliferation and their capacity to deliver a fluorescent labeled RNA into the cytoplasm using confocal microscopy. This paper explores the possible job creation effect of innovation activity. We analyze a unique panel dataset covering almost 20,000 patenting firms from Europe over the period 2003–2012. The main outcome from the proposed GMM-SYS estimations is the labor-friendly nature of innovation, which we measure in terms of forward-citation weighted patents. However, this positive impact of innovation is statistically significant only for firms in the high-tech manufacturing sectors, while not significant in low-tech manufacturing and services.

Dans la plupart des syndromes de douleur étudiés, les femmes ont plus de risque de développer de la douleur chronique que les hommes du même âge. Les hormones sexuelles (HS) semblent être des candidates de choix pour expliquer ces différences. Plusieurs études se sont penchées sur le rôle des HS féminines (estrogèns et progestérone) mais trés peu d'entre elles ont considéré l'importance de l'hormone sexuelle mâle principale, la testostérone (T), dans ce phénomène. L'objectif de la présente étude était de déterminer le rôle potentiel de la T sur la perception et la modulation de la douleur (efficacité des contrôles inhibiteurs diffus nociceptif (CIDN)) chez des femmes souffrant du syndrome des ovaires polykystiques (SOPK) (10), ayant des niveaux anormalement élevés de T libre (>40pM), en comparaison avec des femmes saines (10), ayant des niveaux normaux de T (<40pM). La perception de la douleur a été évaluée à l'aide du test de la thermode via l'évaluation des seuils de douleur et de tolérance thermique. L'évaluation de la modulation de la douleur a, quant à elle, été évaluée via le test de l'immersion du bras dans l'eau froide. Pour ce faire, nous avons évalué la perception de la douleur avant et immédiatement après le test d'immersion. Les résultats obtenus ont démontré que les seuils de douleur (p=0,003) et de tolérance (p=0,02) sont significativement supérieurs chez le groupe de femmes atteintes du SOPK, c'est-à-dire les femmes ayant de hauts niveaux de T libre, en comparaison au groupe de femmes saines. Par contre, aucune différence n'a été observée entre les groupes au niveau de l'efficacité des CIDN (p>0,05). Enfin, les résultats de cette étude ont permis de mieux comprendre le rôle de la T sur la perception et la modulation de la douleur chez les femmes. We examine the impact of international and domestic technology transfers on firms' productivity performance in a sample of 448 Belgian innovating firms during 2003-2006. Technology transfers may occur through R&D contracting, purchase of licenses and know-how, purchase of specialized machinery, hiring of specialized personnel, and various informal channels. Estimates of a dynamic productivity model show that firms engaging in international knowledge transfer strategies record substantially and significantly higher productivity growth. While we do not find statistical evidence of complementarity between international and domestic transfers, the largest impact on productivity is found if firms combine international and domestic transfer strategies, suggesting that a diverse external technology sourcing strategy combining local know-how with know-how from abroad is most effective. Such combined domestic and international technology sourcing strategies are associated with firms' basic research orientation, R&D intensity, and the successful use of technology protection strategies to appropriate the benefits of innovation efforts. Foreign multinational firms are more likely to adopt technology transfer strategies solely focusing on international transfers. Multinational firms do not exhibit faster productivity growth if the effects of technology transfers and R&D are taken into account. © The Author 2012. We wanted to know the patients' view on these disorders, but also their expectations in terms of assessment and support. Methods and results. A survey was conducted in day care hospital among 551 patients from three cancer centers. Most of the patients were between 40 and 74 years and suffered from breast cancer. Eighty-four percent were treated with chemotherapy. Forty-one percent of patients report memory problems, 26% were affected by specific concentration disorders, and 19% of the attention. On the whole, 52% of patients report at least one of the previous cognitive impairment. Among these patients, 80% evoked that the support of these problems was essential and 70% were willing to participate in "workshops" to deal with these disorders. Conclusion. The cognitive impairment occurrence is a real problem for patients receiving chemotherapy and becomes a priority in the global management of their disease. La Chine est désormais le premier pays émetteur de migrants vers le Canada. Depuis les années 1990, les personnes de nationalité chinoise représentent près de 20 % des nouveaux immigrants. Deux éléments fondamentaux permettent d’expliquer la nouvelle dimension de ces flux migratoires : tout d’abord l’abolition de l’accès préférentiel accordé aux natifs des pays européens (en 1967) et ensuite les politiques actuelles plus favorables à l’immigration (en moyenne 235 000 nouveaux arrivants par an entre 1991 et 1995). À travers ces flux migratoires renouvelés apparaissent de nouvelles stratégies territoriales : Vancouver et la Colombie-Britannique, les portes d’entrée historiques des immigrants asiatiques sur le sol canadien, sont désormais reléguées au second plan compte tenu du dynamisme de la région métropolitaine de Toronto. Outre les considérations spatiales, il convient d’insister sur la perte de cohésion de cette communauté qui se scinde en sous-groupes, où les nouveaux arrivants se distinguent par des comportements plus individualistes. En effet les différences sociales, culturelles et économiques se précisent : les nouvelles générations plus diplômées sont mieux préparées pour réussir leur migration et s’insérer dans le tissu économique canadien. La diversité des origines géographiques des ressortissants issus du monde sinisé et le poids des événements historiques récents sont autant de paramètres à prendre en compte. Since the 1990s, Chinese represent nearly 20 percent of new immigrants. Two fundamental processes provide an explanation for this new dimension in migration patterns: the abolition of preferential selection of migrants with European heritage (in 1967), and the pursuant policies that made immigration more acceptable in general (on average, Canada welcomed 235000 new immigrants per year between 1991 and 1995).Accompanying these reinvigorated migratory fluxes are new territorial strategies: Vancouver and British Columbia, the historical ports of entry for Asian immigration on Canadian soil, are now relegated to second place due to the migratory pull of the dynamic metropolitan region of Toronto.In addition to spatial considerations, it is important to highlight the loss of cohesion in this community that has divided into sub-groups, where the new arrivals distinguish themselves by their individual and differing behaviour. In effect, social, cultural and economic difference are pronounced: new generations are more educated, and thus, are better prepared to succeed and weave themselves into the Canadian economic fabric. The diversity of geographic origins of residents and the weight of recent historic events are also important parameters to take into account. The variance is significant between the first original immigrants from the former British colony of Hong Kong, the refugee students after the events of Tiananmen Square, and the latest generations of educated immigrants from China under open economy policies. In this context, Chinatown has neither the same value nor the same significance for all. If the immigrants, Chinese and Asians and general, who arrived under the discriminatory immigration policy, stay attached to this historic neighbourhood, the new immigrants with a more comfortable economic status will attach themselves to the residential neighbourhoods in the North American suburbs.
