We extend the framework of analyzing the 2HDM in its orbit space to study the one-loop effective potential before and after electroweak symmetry breaking. In this framework, we present a comprehensive analysis of global symmetries of the one-loop thermal effective potential in the 2HDM, demonstrating when the global symmetries of the tree-level 2HDM potential are broken by loop contributions. By introducing light-cone coordinates and generalizing the bilinear notation around the vacuum, we present a geometric view of the scalar mass matrix and on-shell renormalization conditions.

The detection of ultra high energy gamma-rays provides an opportunity to explore the existence of ALPs at the multi-hundred TeV and PeV energy scales. We discover that we can employ analytic methods to investigate the propagation of photon-ALP beams in scenarios where the energy of photons $\omega \geq 100$ TeV. Our analytical calculations uncover the presence of two distinct modes of photon propagation resulting from the interplay between ALP-photon mixing and attenuation effects. Next, we analyze observable quantities such as the degree of polarization and survival probability in these two modes. We determine the conditions under which a significant polarization effect can be observed and identify the corresponding survival probability. Finally, we extend our analytic methods to cover the energy range of $10^{-3}$ to $10^4$ GeV and analyze the influence of ALPs on the experimental signals., Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures

We show that testing Bell inequalities in $W^\pm$ pair systems by measuring their angular correlation suffers from the ambiguity in kinetical reconstruction of the di-lepton decay mode. We further propose a new set of Bell observables based on the measurement of the linear polarization of the $W$ bosons, providing a realistic observable to test Bell inequalities in $W^\pm$ pair systems for the first time.

The quartic Higgs-gauge-boson coupling $g_{hhWW}$ is sensitive to the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism, however, it is challenging to be measured at the large hadron collider. We show that the coupling can be well probed at future lepton colliders through di-Higgs boson production via the vector boson fusion channel. We perform a detailed simulation of $\ell^+\ell^-\to \nu\bar\nu hh\to 4b\,+ \!\!\not{\!\! E}_T$ with parton showering effects at $e^+e^-$, $\mu^+\mu^-$ and $e^-\mu^+$ colliders. We find that the regions of $g_{hhWW}/g_{hhWW}^{\rm SM}<0.86$ and $g_{hhWW}/g_{hhWW}^{\rm SM}>1.32$ can be discovered at the $5\sigma$ confidence level at the 10 TeV $\mu^+ \mu^-$ collider with an integrated luminosity of 3 ab$^{-1}$., Comment: 18 pages, 9 figures

Measurement of cosmic photons may reveal their propagation in the interstellar environment, thereby offering a promising way to probe axions and axion-like particles (ALPs). Numerical methods are usually used to compute the propagation of the photon-ALP beam due to the complexity of both the interstellar magnetic field and the evolution equation. However, under certain conditions, the evolution equation can be greatly simplified so that the photon-ALP propagation can be analytically solved. By using analytic methods, we find two distinct photon-ALP propagation modes, determined by the relative magnitude of the photon-ALP mixing term in comparison to the photon attenuation term. In one mode, the intensity of photons decreases with the increasing distance; in the other mode, it also exhibits oscillatory behavior. Although clinical reports have highlighted association of the deacetylase sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) gene with anxiety, its exact role in the pathogenesis of anxiety disorders remains unclear. The present study was designed to explore whether and how SIRT1 in the mouse bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), a key limbic hub region, regulates anxiety. In a chronic stress model to induce anxiety in male mice, we used site- and cell-type-specific in vivo and in vitro manipulations, protein analysis, electrophysiological and behavioral analysis, in vivo MiniScope calcium imaging and mass spectroscopy, to characterize possible mechanism underlying a novel anxiolytic role for SIRT1 in the BNST. Specifically, decreased SIRT1 in parallel with increased corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) expression was found in the BNST of anxiety model mice, whereas pharmacological activation or local overexpression of SIRT1 in the BNST reversed chronic stress-induced anxiety-like behaviors, downregulated CRF upregulation, and normalized CRF neuronal hyperactivity. Mechanistically, SIRT1 enhanced glucocorticoid receptor (GR)-mediated CRF transcriptional repression through directly interacting with and deacetylating the GR co-chaperone FKBP5 to induce its dissociation from the GR, ultimately downregulating CRF. Together, this study unravels an important cellular and molecular mechanism highlighting an anxiolytic role for SIRT1 in the mouse BNST, which may open up new therapeutic avenues for treating stress-related anxiety disorders.

We show that the positivity bounds on some effective field theories can be derived for a class of UV theories with a specific sign of interactions between heavy and light degrees of freedom by the non-negativity of relative entropy. For such a class of theories, we prove that the interactions increase thermodynamic entropy at fixed energy and charge, which is intimately connected with the extremality relations of black holes exhibiting Weak-Gravity-Conjecture. Multi-step phase transition provides a paradigm in which a broken symmetry during phase transition can be restored, enriching the phenomena of both dark matter and baryon asymmetry. We study the dynamics of the multi-step phase transition in the standard model extension with additional isospin $N$-plet scalar field $\Phi_2$ under a discrete $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry. We find that the multi-step phase transition could be triggered if there is a moderately large coupling between the Higgs and the $\Phi_2$ and this coupling is required to be larger as the mass of the $\Phi_2$ and/or isospin increase. The first-order phase transition at the first (second) step can be realized by the thermal loop (tree-level barrier) effects. Thus it is more likely that a detectable spectrum of gravitational waves can be produced at the second step of the phase transition., Comment: 40 pages, 12 figures

Transmission electron microscopy and genomic characterization of this phage exhibited it belongs to the Webervirus genus, Drexlerviridae family. Phage IME268 possessed a double-stranded DNA genome composed of 49,552bp with a GC content of 50.5%. The phage genome encodes 77 open reading frames, out of 44 are hypothetical proteins while 33 had assigned putative functions. No tRNA, virulence related or antibiotic resistance genes were found in phage genome. Comparative genomic analysis showed that phage IME268 has 95% identity with 87% query cover with other phages in NCBI

We present a detailed phenomenological study of the multiple soft gluon radiation for the $t$-channel single top and anti-top quark production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). By applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism, large logarithms introduced by small total transverse momentum $q_\perp$ of the single-top (anti-top) plus one-jet final state system are resummed to all orders in the expansion of the strong interaction coupling at the accuracy of Next-to-Leading Logarithm. We discuss various kinematical distributions which are sensitive to this effect and find that soft gluon radiation become more important when the final state jet is required to be in the forward region. We show that the main difference from PYTHIA prediction lies on the inclusion of the exact color coherence effect between the initial and final states in our resummation calculation. We further propose to apply the experimental observable $\phi^*$ to test the effect of multiple gluon radiation in the single-top and anti-top events. The bottom quark mass effect and jet rapidity distribution are also discussed.

We show that the signature of two boosted $W$-jets plus large missing energy is very promising to probe heavy charged resonances ($X^\pm$) through the process of $pp\to X^+X^-\to W^+W^- X^0 X^0$ where $X^0$ denotes dark matter candidate. The hadronic decay mode of the $W$ boson is considered to maximize the number of signal events. When the mass split between $X^\pm$ and $X^0$ is large, one has to utilize the jet-substructure technique to analyze the boosted $W$-jet. For illustration we consider the process of chargino pair production at the LHC, i.e., $pp\to \chi_1^+\chi^-_1 \to W^+W^-\chi_1^0\chi_1^0$, and demonstrate that the proposed signature is able to cover more parameter space of $m_{\chi_1^\pm}$ and $m_{\chi_1^0}$ than the conventional signature of multiple leptons plus missing energy. More importantly, the signature of our interests is not sensitive to the spin of heavy resonances.

As one of the key properties of the Higgs boson, the Higgs total width is sensitive to global profile of the Higgs boson couplings, and thus new physics would modify the Higgs width. We investigate the total width in various new physics models, including various scalar extension, composite Higgs models, and fraternal twin Higgs model. Typically the Higgs width is smaller than the standard model value due to mixture with other scalar if the Higgs is elementary, or curved Higgs field space for the composite Higgs. On the other hand, except the possible invisible decay mode, the enhanced Yukawa coupling in the two Higgs doublet model or the exotic fermion embeddings in the composite Higgs, could enhance the Higgs width greatly. The precision measurement of the Higgs total width at the high-luminosity LHC can be used to discriminate certain new physics models.

Since the discovery of ketamine anti-depressant effects in last decade, it has effectively revitalized interest in investigating excitatory synapses hypothesis in the pathogenesis of depression. In the present study, we aimed to reveal the excitatory synaptic regulation of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) neuron in the hypothalamus, which is the driving force in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis regulation. This study constitutes the first observation of an increased density of PSD-93-CRH co-localized neurons in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of patients with major depression. PSD-93 overexpression in CRH neurons in the PVN induced depression-like behaviors in mice, accompanied by increased serum corticosterone level. PSD-93 knockdown relieved the depression-like phenotypes in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced depression model. Electrophysiological data showed that PSD-93 overexpression increased CRH neurons synaptic activity, while PSD-93 knockdown decreased CRH neurons synaptic activity. Furthermore, we found that LPS induced increased the release of glutamate from microglia to CRH neurons resulted in depression-like behaviors using fiber photometry recordings. Together, these results show that PSD-93 is involved in the pathogenesis of depression via increasing the synaptic activity of CRH neurons in the PVN, leading to the hyperactivity of the HPA axis that underlies depression-like behaviors.

The magnetic moment ($a_\gamma$) and weak magnetic moment ($a_W$) of charged leptons and quarks are sensitive to quantum effects of new physics heavy resonances. In effective field theory $a_\gamma$ and $a_W$ are induced by two independent operators, therefore, one has to measure both the $a_\gamma$ and $a_W$ to shed lights on new physics. The $a_W$'s of the SM fermions are measured at the LEP. In this work, we analyze the contributions from magnetic and weak magnetic moment operators in the processes of $pp\to H \gamma$ and $gg\to H \to \tau^+ \tau^- \gamma$ at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. We demonstrate that the two processes could cover most of the parameter space that cannot be probed at the LEP.

One way to probe new physics beyond standard model is to check the correlation among higher dimension operators in effective field theory. We examine the strong correlation between the processes of $pp\rightarrow tHq$ and $pp\rightarrow tq$ which both depend on the same three operators. The correlation indicates that, according to the data of $pp\rightarrow tq$, $\sigma_{tHq}=\big[106.8 \pm 64.8\big]~{\rm fb}$ which is far below the current upper limit $\sigma_{tHq}\leq 900~{\rm fb}$.

We explore constraints on various new physics resonances from four top-quark production based on current experimental data. Both light and heavy resonances are studied in the work. To realize first-order electroweak phase transition, it is necessary to generate a barrier in the thermal Higgs potential, which is usually triggered by scalar degree of freedom. We instead investigate phase transition patterns in pure fermion extensions of the standard model, and find that additional fermions with mass hierarchy and mixing could develop such barrier and realize strongly first-order phase transition in such models. In the Higgs potential with polynomial parametrization, the barrier can be generated in the following two patterns: (I) positive quadratic term, negative cubic term and positive quartic term or (II) positive quadratic term, negative quartic term and positive higher dimensional term, such as dimensional 6 operator., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures

We examine the strong correlation between the processes of $pp\rightarrow tHq$ and $pp\rightarrow tq$ which both depend on the same three operators. The correlation indicates that, according to the data of $pp\rightarrow tq$, $\sigma_{tHq}=\big[106.8 \pm 64.8\big]~{\rm fb}$ which is far below the current upper limit $\sigma_{tHq}\leq 900~{\rm fb}$.

In this work we consider the scenario that no DM signals are reported in various DM direct detection experiments and explore whether the collider searches could probe the DM under the neutrino floor. After including the RGE running effect we investigate constraints from direct detection, indirect detection and collider searches. The collider search can probe a light DM below neutrino floor. Especially, for the effective interaction of $\bar{\chi}\chi B_{\mu\nu}B^{\mu\nu}$, current data of the mono-photon channel at the 13 TeV LHC has already covered entire parameter space of the neutrino floor.

We propose a new dihedral angle observable to measure the CP property of the interaction of top quark and Higgs boson in the $t\bar{t}H$ production at the 14~TeV LHC. We consider two decay modes of the Higgs boson, $H\to b\bar{b}$ and $H\to \gamma\gamma$ and show that the dihedral angle distribution is able to distinguish the CP-even and the CP-odd hypothesis at 95\% confidence level with an integrated luminosity of $\sim 180~{\rm fb}^{-1}$.

We propose to utilize the polarization information of the $Z$ bosons in $ZZ$ production, via the gluon-gluon fusion process $gg\to ZZ$, to probe the $Zt\bar{t}$ gauge coupling. The contribution of longitudinally polarized $Z$ bosons is sensitive to the axial-vector component ($a_t$) of the $Zt\bar{t}$ coupling. We demonstrate that the angular distribution of the charged lepton from $Z$ boson decays serves well for measuring the polarization of $Z$ bosons and the determination of $a_t$. We show that $ZZ$ production via the $gg\to ZZ$ process complement to $Zt\bar{t}$ and $tZj$ productions in measuring the $Zt\bar{t}$ coupling at hadron colliders., Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures; Final version published in PRD

Different from other multiple top-quark productions, triple top-quark production requires the presence of both flavor violating neutral interaction and flavor conserving neutral interaction. We describe the interaction of triple top-quarks and up-quark in terms of two dimension-6 operators; one can be induced by a new heavy vector resonance, the other by a scalar resonance. Combining same-sign top-quark pair production and four top-quark production, we explore the potential of the 13 TeV LHC on searching for the triple top-quark production.

We present a detailed phenomenological study of the multiple soft gluon radiation for the $t$-channel single top and anti-top quark production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). By applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism, large logarithms introduced by small total transverse momentum $q_\perp$ of the single-top (anti-top) plus one-jet final state system are resummed to all orders in the expansion of the strong interaction coupling at the accuracy of Next-to-Leading Logarithm. We discuss various kinematical distributions which are sensitive to this effect and find that soft gluon radiation become more important when the final state jet is required to be in the forward region. We show that the main difference from PYTHIA prediction lies on the inclusion of the exact color coherence effect between the initial and final states in our resummation calculation. We further propose to apply the experimental observable $\phi^*$ to test the effect of multiple gluon radiation in the single-top and anti-top events.
