Since 2010 the Danish government has maintained a list of so-called ‘ghetto’ areas, which they consider to be ‘at risk’ communities in need of transformation. This thesis investigates the lived experiences of residents in so-called ‘ghetto’ areas in Denmark, focusing on their experiences of misrepresentation, social invisibility, precarity, and resilience. Through ethnographic research, this study examines the ways in which residents from non-western backgrounds experience the so-called ‘ghetto’ laws and the extent to which these experiences align with the stated goals of the law. Additionally, the research explores how residents are experiencing public perception and how elements of their lived experiences contribute to a feeling of precariousness in their everyday lives. Finally, the study examines the ways in which residents are adapting to and surviving in this situation. The findings suggest that the government's efforts to transform these areas are often misguided and that residents from non-western backgrounds continue to face significant barriers despite these initiatives. The study underscores the importance of listening to the experiences of those affected by social policies, and it highlights the need for more nuanced and context-specific approaches to addressing issues of social inequality and marginalization.

A new actor in the European geopolitical space - an ethno-religious "parallel society" - is transforming the social and political fabric of Sweden. An institutionalised Muslim parallel society is emerging in vulnerable areas, such as marginalised immigrant districts of Swedish cities, through the efforts of Islamist political, social, and economic structures adhering to the religious and political doctrine of the Muslim Brotherhood (this organization is banned in the Russian Federation). Committed to maintaining the Muslim identity, these organisations seek gradual Islamisation of the Swedish population through ideological influence on immigrants with a Muslim background. These efforts thwart cultural assimilation attempts and hinder the implementation of Swedish integration policy. The lack of research into the peaceful Islamisation of Swedish society and the related problems of Islamophobia, anti-Muslim racism, and radicalisation of Muslim youth lends urgency to investigating the influence of Islamist organisations on the Swedish Muslim immigrant community. This study analyses the literature, sources, and statistics on the essential aspects of Swedish Islamisation to provide a holistic picture of the formation of an ethno-religious parallel society in Sweden. The findings help evaluate the effectiveness of the national policy on confronting parallel societies, as well as of measures to promote democratic values as the foundation of a united Swedish society.

Seit Jahrzehnten beziehen sich politische, mediale und sozialwissenschaftliche Debatten über "Integration" oder "Multikultur" auf Berliner Stadtteile wie Kreuzberg und Neukölln. Meist basieren sie auf unhinterfragten historischen Konzepten von Nation, Kultur oder Integration sowie auf diskursiven Konstrukten eines "Eigenen" und eines "Fremden". Dieses Buch untersucht solche Diskursmuster u.a. anhand von Interviews mit hochrangigen Berliner Politikern und Funktionären. Es zeigt, wie die Stadtentwicklung Berlins und mehrheitsgesellschaftliche Grenzziehungen gegenüber Einwanderern aufeinander einwirken und zeichnet deren historische Linien nach.

Der Beitrag untersucht die Arbeit der Paketzusteller. Ein feldanalytischer Zugriff auf die Regulierung der Arbeit offenbart, dass von der einen Paketzustellung keine Rede sein kann. Vielmehr ist das Feld in drei Welten untergliedert, in denen die Institutionen der Arbeitsregulierung unterschiedliche Rollen spielen: die Welt der global operierenden Logistikkonzerne, die Welt der kleinbetrieblichen Subunternehmen und die Welt der selbstfahrenden Kleinstunternehmer. Die Segmentierung des Feldes ist eine direkte Folge des umfangreichen und primär kostengetriebenen Outsourcings der großen Logistikkonzerne. Zugleich wird die von erheblichen sozialen Ungleichheiten begleitete organisationale Segmentierung von kulturellen Differenzen befestigt. In den beiden Welten der Subunternehmen und der Selbstfahrer breiten sich Ansätze einer Kultur der Patronage aus: Angesichts der aus der Unsicherheit ihrer Positionen resultierenden Unmöglichkeit einer rationalen Zukunftsvorausschau versuchen die Akteure, durch die Unterwerfung unter die Macht der Logistikkonzerne doch eine gewisse Kontrolle über ihre eigene Zukunft zu gewinnen - und tragen dabei ironischerweise zur Reproduktion genau jener Machtasymmetrien bei, die für die Unsicherheit der eigenen Positionen verantwortlich sind., Based on primary interview data, the contribution analyzes the work of couriers in the German parcel delivery industry. In applying a field analysis, it is shown that the parcel delivery industry is far from a homogenous field. Instead it is divided into three relatively closed and highly unequal worlds, each dominated by a distinct economic rationality and characterized by a certain institutional logic: the world of global logistic corporations, the world of small subcontractors and the world of self-employed couriers. Segmentation of the field is primarily driven by large corporation’s voluminous and cost-driven outsourcing. It is, however, reinforced by the particular economic rationality characterizing the worlds of subcontractors and self-employed. These rather powerless actors are incapable of developing a rational-calculative approach to the future. In order to gain some control over their own future they tend to submit to the power of the big corporations. A culture of patronage is proliferating in these worlds which is positively associated with the increase of inequality.
