Climate change and violent conflict present two of the most substantial barriers to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Many of the countries bearing the greatest impacts of a changing climate also grapple with protracted armed conflict. Despite this, we still have limited knowledge about how political and environmental insecurities affect trust in the institutions that are responsible for disaster management, security and conflict resolution. In this paper we explore whether being exposed to violent armed conflict is associated with low levels of political trust, and whether this can be mitigated by state action. Relying on a household survey covering some 2000 rural households in Pakistan, we investigate how state disaster response shaped trust in conflict-affected contexts in the years following the severe flooding of 2010. Our study suggest that negative implications of violence exposure on political trust can be offset by disaster relief efforts by the state, but only in instances when the government is not involved in the violent activities. Our findings contribute to our understanding of the joint impact of conflict and disasters on political trust, and importantly shows that in some instances, government interventions in a different political domain can reduce negative consequences of armed conflict on trust. Understanding the interplay of compound risks in contexts where multiple risks are occurring simultaneously is crucial because without adequate, coordinated government action, it will be impossible to protect the lives, health and livelihoods of affected people in Pakistan and beyond.

This thesis investigates the nuanced factors influencing purchase intention and loyalty within the consumer durables markets of Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The study focus its attention on the trust and price value as main ingredients for purchase intention and loyalty while focusing on other environmental factors affecting consumer decision making efforts. The chosen research approach adopts a deductive method, with hypotheses derived from existing literature, concentrating on trust, loyalty, and price value concerning purchase intentions in Sri Lanka and Pakistan's consumer durables market. Primary data collection employs questionnaires distributed in these populations, utilizing a stratified random sampling technique to ensure diversity. The study supplements this with secondary data collection from reputable publications. The findings yield valuable managerial implications for consumer durable marketers targeting Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Key strategies encompass prioritizing transparent communication for trust-building, implementing fair pricing strategies, strategic investments in digital engagement, addressing environmental sustainability preferences, and adopting a holistic approach to customer loyalty. While emphasizing personalized engagement, community emphasis, and cultural resonance are crucial in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, global markets may demand standardized quality, innovation, and consistent customer experiences. Theoretical contributions extend to understanding consumer loyalty dynamics, exploring price value perception, and fostering cross-cultural insights, offering actionable insights for tailored marketing strategies and product offerings in these diverse markets. Despite its contributions, the study acknowledges limitations, including a restrained exploration of variables, a relatively small sample size, demographic homogeneity among participants, and exclusive reliance on a single data collection method. This research paper has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the criminal justice systems of Pakistan and the United Kingdom. The presented comparison revolved around the systems’ parallels and differences in terms of their common colonial origin and diverging cultural and legal development. The respective methods of keeping law and order, conducting judicial proceedings, and structuring legal frameworks were analysed. The analysis has also compared the specific features of conducting the legal procedure in Pakistan characterized by the coexistence of common law and Islamic law concepts, and the one in the UK associated with a more stringent due process adherence. Finally, the introduced themes of the right, the role of the jury, and the socio-political environment of justice were analysed. The review paper a comprehensive account of the two criminal justice systems within the thematic framework of the chosen concepts. As such, the legal and sociocultural perspectives are integrated to explain the unique dynamics of a criminal justice system in the separate states.

Analyzing factors of student’s educational attainment is imperative and needs special attention. Therefore, this study analyzes the influence of socioeconomic factors on the educational attainment of students utilizing the data of 700 students from both public and private educational institutions in the Bahawalpur district. For data analysis, the ordinary least square method, independent sample t-test, and One-Way ANOVA analysis are used. The outcomes show that the variables family background, gender of the respondent, family system, household size, father education, parental involvement, household income, and wealth index are the significant factors of the student’s educational attainment. An Independent sample t-test analysis shows a significant mean difference in students’ educational attainment concerning family background, gender of the respondent, father's occupation, mother's participation in the labor force, and family system. One-Way ANOVA analysis shows a significant mean difference in students’ educational attainment concerning father education, mother education, and household income. It is proposed that socioeconomic status is imperative and should be taken into consideration to improve the educational attainment of students.

Emerging nations have taken benefits from foreign capital inflows for increasing the amount of human capital, ultimately contributing to both economic development and growth. This research work evaluates the influence of foreign inflow of money and assistance from foreign countries on the lives of people in Pakistan. The study utilizes the post-facto design has and analyzed a sample of 32 years of secondary data ranging from 1990 to 2021, extracted from different data banks. The human capital is taken as a response variable. On the other hand, explanatory variables include official development assistance and remittance. Urban population and financial development are taken as control variables. The outcomes provide evidence that remittances, financial development and urban population provides a favorable and significant influence on the enhancement of human capital, while official development assistance provides no effect for the development of human capital in Pakistan. These findings establish a broader picture of this relationship and are in line with the related theories of economics. Furthermore, efforts should be made to provide policymakers with an understanding of critical factors which link foreign financial support, money transfers, growth in the economy, and improved human development.

This study aims to explore the effects of visual aids at secondary level in teaching English. Quantitative research approach directed to use experimental design for this study. Two null hypotheses were formulated. The Pre-Test and the Post-Test were constructed for the current study. Population of this study consisted of 440 students. The sample size comprised of 30 students who were given the test under the Experimental research design to teach English at Secondary level in district Bahawalnagar. Convenient sampling technique was used to draw the sample from the population. The findings show that the achievements of experimental group were significantly better than control group. Students who were taught by traditional method also showed some improvement in the Post-Test. But this improvement is less than the improvement of experimental group in the Post-Test. Therefore, teaching through visual aids is better than traditional teaching as it significantly improved students’ achievements. The study implies that more stress should be given to use visual aids in policy formulation. The study also implies that teachers should prioritize the activity method along with visual aids to traditional methods of teaching.

The current research aimed to examine the impact of sexual and self-objectification on psychological burden among young females. The study also explored the mediating role of rumination in the relationship between sexual and self-objectification and psychological burden. Data was collected from 211 young females by using the purposive sampling technique. Ruminative Response Scale, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale 21, Self-Objectification Questionnaire, and Interpersonal Sexual Objectification Scale were used in this study. To analyze the data, SPSS and Process Macro were used. Results revealed that there was a significant impact of self-objectification and sexual objectification on stress, anxiety, and depression in young females. Further, results revealed that rumination plays a mediating role in the relationship between self and sexual objectification and psychological burden. Significant differences were found between unmarried and married females in the scores of sexual objectification but there was no difference in the scores of self-objectification. The results pave the way for further research into the other mechanisms by which objectification leads to psychological burden. Future studies could explore long-term effects, potential resilience factors, and effective interventions.

In the past years, the food security issue has become clearer, and resources have been sought to improve the sustainable food chain with the aim of reducing the harm to the environment caused by traditional food systems. Through the arrival of edible insects, sustainability and nutritional prowess emerge as a solution in view. On the downside/on the other/however, public acceptance is one of the key factors that limit their (AV) placement. The scientists have frantically worked on the identification of the factors that make up one's decision to improve on the level of eating insects. This paper details the research conducted with a group of 125 students who come from numerous public institutions in Pakistan, with the focus to determine their readiness to incorporate consuming bugs which is a fresh protein source in their cultural sphere. The investigation was multifaceted one and covered the spectrum from disgust effects, safety risks, to cultural factors, knowledge gap, environmental issues, and religious considerations. Implementing a five-point Likert scale questionnaire administered through the use of Google Forms, the study brought to the fore critical aspects that stimulate the decisions and intentions of students regarding whether to eat insects to control the escalating locust population. The research pinpoints several factors as being the most important in shaping participants´ attitude towards the idea of either trying or avoiding the locust-based food – those would be something like disgust, deeply held religious views, and merely care toward the surrounding environment. On top of this, cultural influences and knowledge gaps became the essential determinants that worked to promote those decisions. Over the last half-century, reduction in poverty and reasonable economic growth have been the fruit of continued industrial development, mostly in Asia. Improved telecommunication, liberalized markets, and better infrastructure cannot accelerate economic growth unless an appropriate level of investment in human capital is not available. The study mainly targets to investigate impact of investment in human capital on industrial development in Pakistan from 1980 to 2023. The study incorporates government expenditures on education (EXE), government expenditures on health (EXH), and growth in enrollment rate in vocational institutes (EVG) as indicators of investment in human capital. The study has applied Augmented Dickey-Fuller to check stationarity of variables followed by estimation of Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) model to find co-integration. It is resulted from estimation that expenditure in health and enrollment in vocational training confirm leaves positive impact on industrial development in case of Pakistan. The empirical outcomes are consistent with existing evidence found on the same subject for other economies. In Pakistan, there is a need for policy formulation to achieve the right direction of educational development for industrial development.

The concepts of equity, justice, and good conscience have guided areas of the legal system not covered by statute law or personal laws since the early East India Company days. For instance, in circumstances where they were not otherwise expressly addressed, judges were to base their rulings on equity, justice, and good conscience, according to the regulations from 1781 and 1793. The idea was replicated from one regulation to another and from one statute to another. According to Derrett, this approach was initially applied by the Royal Charter of August 9, 1683, which considered other legal sources as "just" norms that applied to the case's facts in addition to English law. By the end of the nineteenth century, British Indian Courts preferred to apply English Law as residual law first, then equity, justice, and good conscience. Courts in Pakistan occasionally use this Common Law formula to fill in the blanks. This paper examines the history of equity in common law and analyse briefly the case law of Pakistan.

The article explores the real-world connection involving population increase and economic development in Pakistan. This research examines the long-run and short-run implications of demographic parameters like population expansion, expectancy of life and fertility rate on the advancement of the Pakistani economy. The theoretical foundation of the study is built on demographic change, which takes into account life expectancy and the birth rate in the production function, as well as human capital development to establish research goals. The current study used Pakistan's time-series information from 1981 to 2021. The dataset was retrieved using the World Development Indicator engaging the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag model (ARDL) to figure out the short and long-run interactions between prosperity and population increase. The outcomes demonstrate an adverse and substantial association between the expansion of the population with the growth in the economy. On the contrary, life expectancy has a large and favourable impact on the development of the economy. According to the results, population growth has a detrimental impact on the development of the economy; nevertheless, appropriate usage of these assets must be made. Whenever a nation maintains an extensive population and fails to utilize its strength effectively, then it will become a strain on the economy. The authorities ought to implement comprehensive strategies for improving employment opportunities in the entire nation. Though Pakistan possesses an intelligent workforce, the challenge remains how to harness its potential profitably.

Tourism is a big source of revenue for a country. Political Stability and good governance promote tourism growth of a country by providing a favorable environment for tourism. Present study is empirical evidence of Pakistan and Bangladesh to investigate the role of political stability and governance in tourism growth. Furthermore, along with the principal variable, the study also estimates the role of corruption in tourism growth. Panel times series data, from the year 1996 to 2021, was used for analysis of results. GMM estimation methodology has been employed which show that political stability and governance increase tourism growth in Pakistan and Bangladesh. The finding also shows that variables including in analysis are control of corruption, political economy is also a determinant of tourism. So, finding indicates that political economy along with significant economic growth is desirable for promoting tourism in Pakistan and Bangladesh. They study concludes that in order to promote tourism in Pakistan and Bangladesh. political stability, good governance, role of law, and regulatory quality are significant.

Experiencing a cancer diagnosis and going through treatment can lead to turmoil potentially resulting in lasting negative effects. Self-compassion plays a role in helping individuals maintain or improve their quality (QOL) while managing stress related to challenging life circumstances and hardships. The current research aimed to examine how cancer patients perceive stress, QOL and self-compassion are correlated. It also investigated how self-compassion plays a mediating function in the relationship of perceived stress and QOL. The study involved 84 grown up cancer patients aged between 18 and 50 years. These individuals were selected from hospitals in Karachi, Pakistan using a purposive sampling method. The evaluation tools used included the Perceived Stress Scale, the Self-compassion Scale and The World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL BREF). Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 25 software with Correlation and Process Macro techniques. Results displayed a positive link between self-compassion and QOL (r=.683; p<.01) as well as a significant negative connection between perceived stress and QOL (r=-.690; p<.01). Additionally, the mediation analysis discovered that self-compassion played a mediating part in the relationship between perceived stress and QOL. This study could be valuable in addressing psychological aspects related to cancer to enhance the QOL for patients. Implementing interventions/policies focusing on self-compassion in cancer care programs, initiating support systems for wellbeing and providing training, for healthcare providers and caregivers are steps forward.

The governments of developing economies incentivize the cultivators of their most strategic crops by offering them minimum support price for their yield. This study aims at identifying distinctively the short-run dynamics and the long-run causal linkage of support price and yield rates for two major food crops of the country; wheat and sugarcane. Employing advance time-series econometric estimators of Error Correction Model (ECM) and Fully Modified OLS (FMOLS) cointegration regression, results indicate the valid existence of hypothesized relationship over both short and longer time horizons. Each year, the short-term divergence of two crop yields from their long-run equilibrium paths turns out to be corrected with high speed of adjustment. The long-run association between two variables is also found evident with decent magnitude and high degree of statistical significance. These findings favour the use of support prices as a long-term policy tool for encouraging cultivation of wheat and sugarcane crops in country. However, the overall welfare consequences of such a policy should never be over-rated in a society like Pakistan which is largely characterized by horrific levels of corruption and innumerable administrative bottlenecks.

Objective: This study aims to explore the under-investigated area of green creativity within Pakistani SMEs by examining the influence of leadership dynamics (transformational and transactional leadership) and innovation practices. Theoretical Framework: The research builds upon the concepts of green creativity, transformational leadership, transactional leadership, innovation practices, and green motivation. Method: A survey methodology was employed with a sample of 191 managers and owners of SMEs in Pakistan. Data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS software. Results and Discussion: The findings reveal positive relationships between transformational leadership, transactional leadership, innovation practices, and green creativity. However, green motivation was identified as a negative moderator in the relationship between innovation practices and green creativity. The study emphasizes the significance of leadership styles (transformational and transactional) and fostering a culture of innovation for driving green creativity within SMEs. Green motivation, while positive in itself, seems to hinder the impact of innovation practices on green creativity, requiring further investigation. Research Implications: This research contributes to the understanding of green creativity in SMEs by highlighting the facilitating role of leadership dynamics and innovation practices. It underscores the need for future research to delve deeper into the moderating effect of green motivation. Originality/Value: This study offers a valuable contribution to the existing environmental sustainability literature. It delves into green creativity within Pakistani SMEs, a previously unexplored area. By examining leadership styles, innovation practices, and the surprising moderating role of green motivation, the research offers valuable insights for both businesses and policymakers to cultivate environmentally friendly practices within SMEs.

The current study aimed was to investigate the causes of child labor and its implications on children’s mental health in Lahore, Pakistan. The qualitative study was conducted by using mixed methods approach, utilizing purposive sampling to collect data from 40 minor automobile mechanics below the age of 18. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and transcribed to explore lived experiences and gather qualitative insights, while a concurrent survey design elicited descriptive statistics. Data was coded and analyzed using qualitative data analysis software to discern prominent themes. The findings suggested that familial necessities, lack of access to schooling, customary practices, and consumerism primarily drive the involvement of minors in the workforce are major causes to child labor. Notably, financial privation was the predominant push factor reported. Moreover, the study revealed that child labor often carries lasting psychological sequela, including symptoms of depression, and negatively impacts well-being during formative years. The findings underscore the urgent need for multi-pronged interventions to preemptively address root determinants of child labor while simultaneously expanding educational opportunities.

This study was a part of research thesis for the development of a model of community learning center in Pakistan. Design/Methodology/Approach: Furthermore, this study was qualitative and based on document review. For this purpose, World Bank WBI Evaluation process was followed to conclude the findings. In this research, ten reports and official documents were retrieved from 1st October 2023 to 31st January 2024. Moreover, priori framework was used for thematic analysis. Findings: The major themes were: background, organization, program implementation, impact and challenges. The findings elaborated the legislative support, policy safeguards and quality measures of AQF and ASQA for 2500 registered training organizations of community learning in all eight states and territories. It includes public and not-for-profit facilities with aim of personal enrichment, adult basic education, accredited and non-accredited vocational education. These facilities were providing seamless transition from non-formal education to formal education as well as increasing employability and productivity of remote, rural and high equity groups. Implications/Originality/Value: This insight will provide guidelines for policy, structure and implementation in Pakistan in the long run.

Rising longevity due to access to better health services affects the growth and composition of the population differently than birth rates. In addition, empirical evidence of the effects of rising longevity on standards of living is ambiguous. From the perspective of developing nations, it is important to understand how rising longevity affects national prosperity, as this allows governments to develop programs for increasing investment in the health sector. This study explicitly tested varying intertemporal impacts of rising longevity on the GDP per capita of Pakistan between 1967 and 2020. An Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to cointegration was used to estimate and compare short-run and long-run estimates of longevity. The results indicated that a 1% increase in longevity increased the growth rate of GDP per capita in Pakistan by 0.64% in the long-run. In addition, a 1% increase in life expectancy at birth above 62 years increased economic growth by an additional 0.009%. In general, the estimated effect of increased longevity varied by stages of demographic transition in Pakistan.

First-ever measurements of particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10, and TSP) along with gaseous pollutants (CO, NO2, and SO2) were performed from June 2019 to April 2020 in Faisalabad, Metropolitan, Pakistan, to assess their seasonal variations; Summer 2019, Autumn 2019, Winter 2019-2020, and Spring 2020. Pollutant measurements were carried out at 30 locations with a 3-km grid distance from the Sitara Chemical Industry in District Faisalabad to Bhianwala, Sargodha Road, Tehsil Lalian, District Chiniot. ArcGIS 10.8 was used to interpolate pollutant concentrations using the inverse distance weightage method. PM2.5, PM10, and TSP concentrations were highest in summer, and lowest in autumn or winter. CO, NO2, and SO2 concentrations were highest in summer or spring and lowest in winter. Seasonal average NO2 and SO2 concentrations exceeded WHO annual air quality guide values. For all 4 seasons, some sites had better air quality than others. Even in these cleaner sites air quality index (AQI) was unhealthy for sensitive groups and the less good sites showed Very critical AQI (> 500). Dust-bound carbon and sulfur contents were higher in spring (64 mg g-1) and summer (1.17 mg g-1) and lower in autumn (55 mg g-1) and winter (1.08 mg g-1). Venous blood analysis of 20 individuals showed cadmium and lead concentrations higher than WHO permissible limits. Those individuals exposed to direct roadside pollution for longer periods because of their occupation tended to show higher Pb and Cd blood concentrations. It is concluded that air quality along the roadside is extremely poor and potentially damaging to the health of exposed workers.

Beyond Bias was an intervention introduced in Burkina Faso, Pakistan and Tanzania, with the aim of reducing health worker bias toward young, unmarried and nulliparous women seeking family planning services. This study used qualitative methods - based on interviews with health workers who participated in the intervention, managers at health facilities that participated in the intervention, and policy and program stakeholders at the national level - to understand implementation experiences with the intervention. The results offer insights for organizations or countries seeking to implement Beyond Bias or similar programs, and point to some other key implementation challenges for multi-component interventions in lower-resource settings. The intervention, developed using a human-centered design approach, was seen as key for successful implementation but there were logistical challenges. The digital intervention was disruptive and distracting to many. In addition, the non-financial rewards intervention was perceived as complex, and some participants expressed feeling discouraged when they did not receive a reward. Beyond Bias did not sufficiently attend to the outer setting, and this was perceived as a major implementation barrier as it limited individuals capacity to fully achieve the desired behavior change; for example, space constraints meant that some health facilities could not ensure private services for all clients. There were scalability concerns related to cost, and there is uncertainty whether diversity of contexts (within and across countries) might constrain implementation of Beyond Bias at scale.

In the city of Lahore, Pakistan, plots of land are traded like stocks. While land has traditionally held together families, communities, and a national political order, in recent years it has become liquid, or an asset that can be quickly bought and sold. Across a transnational real estate market, plots of land circulate between diasporic Pakistanis living across the Middle East, Europe, and North America, and in Lahore’s oldest residential areas the World Bank is digitizing a colonial-era land records system to increase the speed of transactions. And yet, even in the context of financialization, land's value continues to be shaped by ethical norms. Based on two years of ethnographic fieldwork with real estate developers, diasporic investors, government officials, and local residents, this dissertation examines the ethical practices that drive financialization in Lahore and how urban space and life are transforming as land becomes liquid. It approaches land as an exemplary case study for understanding how objects can be imbued with multiple and contradictory forms of value and how people negotiate those tensions when they inevitably arise. Ultimately, it argues that when economic gains are seen as a vehicle for ethical ones this leads to the most unethical outcomes of all.

Background Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are a significant cause of maternal mortality worldwide. The classification and treatment of hypertension in pregnancy remain debated. We aim to compare the effectiveness of the revised 2017 ACC/AHA blood pressure threshold in predicting adverse pregnancy outcomes. Methods We conducted a secondary data analysis of the Alliance for Maternal and Newborn Health Improvement (AMANHI) biorepository study, including 10,001 pregnant women from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Tanzania. Blood pressure was measured using validated devices at different antenatal care visits. The blood pressure readings were categorized as: normal blood pressure (systolic blood pressure (sBP) < 120 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure (dBP) < 80 mm Hg), elevated blood pressure (sBP 120-129 and dBP < 80), stage 1 hypertension (sBP 130-139 or dBP 80-89, or both), and stage 2 hypertension (sBP >= 140 or dBP >= 90, or both). We estimated risk ratios for stillbirths and preterm births, as well as diagnostic test properties of both the pre-existing JNC7 (>= 140/90) and revised ACC/AHA (>= 130/80) thresholds using normal blood pressure as reference group. Results From May 2014 to June 2018, blood pressure readings were available for 9,448 women (2,894 in Bangladesh, 2,303 in Pakistan, and 4,251 in Tanzania). We observed normal blood pressure in 70%, elevated blood pressure in 12.4%, stage 1 hypertension in 15.2%, and stage 2 hypertension in 2.5% of the pregnant women respectively. Out of these, 310 stillbirths and 9,109 live births were recorded, with 887 preterm births. Using the ACC/AHA criteria, the stage 1 hypertension cut-off revealed 15.3% additional hypertension diagnoses as compared to JNC7 criteria. ACC/AHA defined hypertension was significantly associated with stillbirths (RR 1.8, 95% CI 1.4, 2.3). This study aimed to assess the factors associated with the mean change in QoL and family functioning scores of primary caregivers of CYP patients with PBTs 12 months posttreatment. Methods This prospective cohort study enrolled CYPs aged 5–21 years with newly diagnosed PBTs and their primary caregivers. The study was carried out between November 2020 and July 2023. The primary caregivers of CYPs were recruited from two major tertiary care centers in Karachi, Pakistan. The primary caregivers QoL were assessed by the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) Family Impact Module. The assessment was undertaken by a psychologist at the time of diagnosis and 12 months posttreatment. The data were analyzed with STATA version 12. Results Forty-eight CYPs with newly diagnosed PBTs and their primary caregivers (46 mothers and 2 fathers) were enrolled. At 12 months posttreatment, 25 (52%) CYPs and their primary caregivers (mothers) were reassessed, and 23 (48%) were lost to follow-up. On multivariable analysis, a significant decrease in mothers’ mean 12-month posttreatment QoL and family functioning scores was associated with CYP having posttreatment seizures (beta= -10.2; 95% CI: -18.4 to -2.0) and with the financial burden associated with the CYP’s illness (beta= -0.3; 95% CI: -0.4 to -0.1). Background Dengue Viral Infection (DVI) has become endemic in Pakistan since the first major outbreak in Karachi in 1996. Despite aggressive measures taken by relevant authorities, Pakistan has been dealing with a worsening dengue crisis for the past two decades. DHF is severe form of dengue infection which is linked with significant morbidity and mortality. Early identification of severe dengue infections can reduce the morbidity and mortality. In this context we planned current study in which we find out the different factors related with DHF as well as clinical laboratory features of DHF and compare them to DF so that patients can be best evaluated for DHF and managed accordingly at admission. Methods Retrospective study conducted over a period of 6 years (2013-2018) in two tertiary care hospitals in Pakistan. Data were collected by using a pre-structured data collection form. Data were statistically analyzed to determine the clinical and laboratory characteristics of DVI and risk factors of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Results A total 512 dengue cases (34.05 +/- 15.08 years; Male 69.53%) were reviewed. Most common clinical manifestations of DVI were fever (99.60%), headache (89.1%), chills (86.5%), rigors (86.5%), myalgia (72.3%). Less common clinical manifestations were vomiting (52.5%), arthralgia (50.2%) and skin rashes (47.5%). Furthermore, nasal bleeding (44.1%), gum bleeding (32.6%), pleural effusion (13.9%) and hematuria (13.1%) were more profound clinical presentations among DHF patients. Mortality rate was 1.5% in this study. Logistic regression analysis indicated that delayed hospitalization (OR: 2.30) and diabetes mellitus (OR:2.71), shortness of breath (OR:2.21), association with risk groups i.e., living near stagnant water, travelling to endemic areas, living in endemic regions (OR:1.95), and presence of warning signs (OR:2.18) were identified as risk factors of DHF. This study assessed the occurrence, origins, and potential risks of emerging perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) for the first time in drinking water resources of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. In total, 13 perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) with carbon (C) chains C4-C18 and 4 perfluoroalkyl sulfonates (PFSAs) with C chains C4-C10 were tested in both surface and ground drinking water samples using a high-performance liquid chromatography system (HPLC) equipped with an Agilent 6460 Triple Quadrupole liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) system. The concentrations of ∑PFCAs, ∑PFSAs, and ∑PFAAs in drinking water ranged from 1.46 to 72.85, 0.30–8.03, and 1.76–80.88 ng/L, respectively. Perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA), perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA), and perfluoropentanoic acid (PFPeA) were the dominant analytes in surface water followed by ground water, while the concentration of perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA), perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnDA), and perfluorododecanoic acid (PFDoDA) were greater than long-chain PFOA and PFOS. The study questions were targeted to answer the overall level of job satisfaction for working conditions in general and across media organizations as perceived by male and female journalists. Furthermore, the study examined the status of women journalists in media organizations of Pakistani focusing on their position and dignity level in media houses, opportunities for their career growth, and hindrances created in their prosperity in terms of discrimination or harassment, their career advancement, and the role that harassment and discrimination play in professional attainment. It finds that society's distinct individuals are based on gender. Thisa stratiifcation cause inqueality especially unequal distrbtion of power among media personals. Gender as a normative ideal is defined by the nature of media organizations and the hierarchy of power that exists within media organizations. Pakistan, as a patriarchal society, is still facing the hardships of gender disparity. Primarily the study is focused on exploring numbers and, more critically, where the women are and how they perform their journalistic duties with the challenges they confront and making progress in their careers. The study is conducted through a web survey engaging male and female journalists working in newspaper and electronic media organizations across Pakistan. The research design used was a 'convergent parallel mixed method' with a pragmatic worldview. Overall, a sample of 200 media persons from both genders was collected for the study.

The study aims to evaluate the influence of corruption on the size of underground economy of Pakistan against tax revenue, political stability, voice and accountability, gross domestic product, inflation, and corruption. To assess the influence of corruption on the magnitude of the underground economy, annual time series data from 1972 to 2021 is used. For the regression analyses, Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) framework is utilized. The explained variable in the study is the ratio of currency in circulation and money supply. The empirical findings reveal significant impact of explanatory variables. Appropriate tax adjustments, promotion of education and awareness, and price stability are the policy recommendation to combat the issue of underground economy.

Purpose: This study is initiated to inquire into the impact of economic uncertainty on the key macroeconomic indicators for instance GDP growth, poverty, and unemployment of Pakistan. For the analysis, the time series data was used from 1972 to 2024. Methodology: For the purpose of regression analyses, Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique is used. Also, Granger Causality test is incorporated to observe causality between the selected variables. Novelty: This study is novel since it addresses the interconnected macroeconomic issues in varied framework. This research explores the dynamic relationship of these macroeconomic variables against economic uncertainty. Findings: The results identify long-term relationship between economic uncertainty and these macroeconomic variables. The findings show that GDP growth and economic uncertainty are negatively related. However, poverty and unemployment are traced as increasing at the back of economic uncertainty in both time horizons. Implications: The findings highlight persistent challenge on Pakistan to bring policy reforms to mitigate the adverse effects of economic uncertainty.

The primary caregivers QoL were assessed by the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) Family Impact Module. The assessment was undertaken by a psychologist at the time of diagnosis and 12 months posttreatment. The data were analyzed with STATA version 12. Results Forty-eight CYPs with newly diagnosed PBTs and their primary caregivers (46 mothers and 2 fathers) were enrolled. At 12 months posttreatment, 25 (52%) CYPs and their primary caregivers (mothers) were reassessed, and 23 (48%) were lost to follow-up. On multivariable analysis, a significant decrease in mothers’ mean 12-month posttreatment QoL and family functioning scores was associated with CYP having posttreatment seizures (beta= -10.2; 95% CI: -18.4 to -2.0) and with the financial burden associated with the CYP’s illness (beta= -0.3; 95% CI: -0.4 to -0.1). However, in those cases where CYP had higher posttreatment quality of life scores (beta = 0.4; 95% CI = 0.1, 0.6) and posttreatment higher verbal intelligence scores (beta = 0.1; 95% CI = 0.01, 0.3), the mothers’ QoL and family functioning scores were significantly greater. Introduction Primary brain tumors are a common cause of morbidity and mortality in children and young people (CYP) globally. Impaired neurocognitive function is a potential severe consequence in primary brain tumor (PBT) survivors. There are no in-depth studies from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to inform management and follow-up. The research questions of this study were as follows: Are the sociodemographic factors (lower age of CYP, female gender, low socioeconomic status, low parental education), disease-related factors (high grade of tumor, presence of seizures, presence of hydrocephalous), and treatment-related factors (adjuvant therapy, no surgical intervention, post-treatment seizures, placement of shunts) associated with decline in neurcognition outcomes 12 months post-treatment in CYP with PBTs? Methods A prospective cohort study was conducted from November 2020 to July 2023 at the Aga Khan University Hospital and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, tertiary care hospitals in Karachi, Pakistan. All CYP aged 5 to 21 years with a newly diagnosed PBTs were eligible. The neurocognition assessment was undertaken by a psychologist at two points, i.e., pre-treatment and at 12 months post-treatment using validated tools. Background Dengue Viral Infection (DVI) has become endemic in Pakistan since the first major outbreak in Karachi in 1996. Despite aggressive measures taken by relevant authorities, Pakistan has been dealing with a worsening dengue crisis for the past two decades. DHF is severe form of dengue infection which is linked with significant morbidity and mortality. Early identification of severe dengue infections can reduce the morbidity and mortality. In this context we planned current study in which we find out the different factors related with DHF as well as clinical laboratory features of DHF and compare them to DF so that patients can be best evaluated for DHF and managed accordingly at admission. Methods Retrospective study conducted over a period of 6 years (2013-2018) in two tertiary care hospitals in Pakistan. Data were collected by using a pre-structured data collection form. Data were statistically analyzed to determine the clinical and laboratory characteristics of DVI and risk factors of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Results A total 512 dengue cases (34.05 +/- 15.08 years; Male 69.53%) were reviewed. Most common clinical manifestations of DVI were fever (99.60%), headache (89.1%), chills (86.5%), rigors (86.5%), myalgia (72.3%). Less common clinical manifestations were vomiting (52.5%), arthralgia (50.2%) and skin rashes (47.5%). Furthermore, nasal bleeding (44.1%), gum bleeding (32.6%), pleural effusion (13.9%) and hematuria (13.1%) were more profound clinical presentations among DHF patients. Mortality rate was 1.5% in this study. Logistic regression analysis indicated that delayed hospitalization (OR: 2.30) and diabetes mellitus (OR:2.71), shortness of breath (OR:2.21), association with risk groups i.e., living near stagnant water, travelling to endemic areas, living in endemic regions (OR:1.95), and presence of warning signs (OR:2.18) were identified as risk factors of DHF. This study examines the economic consequences of political instability in Pakistan, focusing on its effects on fiscal policy and investor confidence. Pakistan’s history of political turbulence has repeatedly disrupted economic growth, leading to fiscal imbalances, public debt, and diminished investor confidence. Political events often result in short-term fiscal decisions that have long-lasting negative impacts on the economy. The research employs a qualitative approach, analysing secondary data from government reports, economic surveys, and investor sentiment studies to assess the relationship between political instability, fiscal policy, and investment trends. The study finds that political instability contributes to rising budget deficits, inflation, and exchange rate volatility, while also undermining both domestic and foreign investor confidence. Frequent policy reversals and uncertainty further exacerbate economic challenges. To mitigate these effects, the study suggests adopting resilient fiscal frameworks, enhancing transparency in economic governance, and leveraging support from international institutions like the IMF and World Bank during times of political instability.

Time dependent data for the mentioned parameters have been used for the time period of 1980 to 2022. Inter-relations among the above-mentioned variables have been studied in this work by the method of cointegration using bounds test. The results illustrate that there is an existence of long run relation among the parameters where GDP has been taken into consideration as the dependent variable. Granger causation analysis has also been performed for the variables. Results show that Granger causality between GDP and electricity utilization runs in both directions. Moreover, the study discloses that Electricity utilization granger cause exports and per capita real capital. Exports granger cause per capita real capital. Per capita real capital granger cause GDP. Labor force granger cause GDP and exports. The long run relation equation of GDP, Electricity utilization, exports, real capital and labor force has also been examined for parameter stability. The parameters are found to be stable with the significance level of 5%. The research also suggests some significant strategy recommendations.

Any large economy's macroeconomic performance is strongly influenced by exchange rate dynamics. Study analysis the effect of exchange rate on foreign direct investment inflows in Pakistan. In addition to exchange rate, this study considers macroeconomic indicators such as GDP per capita growth, broad money, inflation and external 0debt. This study utilized retrospective data from the years 1984 to 2024. Current study used ARDL model to address the integration of variables at different orders precisely one or zero. Autoregressive distributed lag model also serves as a tool for conducting limit tests in cointegration and estimating both in short and long run effects. Study findings indicate a strong negative connection between short and long-term fluctuations in currency rates and FDI inflows. GDP per capita, broad money, inflation, and external debt all significantly and positively influence FDI both in short run and long run analysis. It is imperative to address the underlying issues that are causing Pakistan to experience substantially lower growth in foreign direct investment inflows than the region. Still, this study can have a major impact on areas including public finance, world economics, global commerce and foreign direct investment policy-making.

Pakistan has yet to gather enough funds to cover its budget. As a result, twin deficits emerged, forcing the government to rely on domestic and international debt to fund development projects. Current study investigates the link between government debt, expenditure and economic advancement in Pakistan. Several sources, including the World Bank database, International Financial Statistics, Pakistan Economic Survey, and others, offered statistics on public debt, government expenditure, inflation, GDP growth rate, and interest rates for 41 years from 1980 to 2020. Autoregressive distributed lag model was used for econometric research. Study used unit root (ADF and PP) tests to confirm the data's stationarity. Findings of the study revealed that public debt and interest rates had a substantial negative link with economic growth. However, expenditure on both development and non-development and inflation had a significant positive correlation with GDP growth. The findings show that all of the identified variables substantially influence government spending. Pakistan's economic development is driven mainly by governmental spending, interest rates and debt. The study recommends that to secure long-term economic growth, the government should responsibly manage debt stocks.
