1. Need-supportive leadership behaviors and sickness absence among employees : the mediating role of basic psychological need satisfaction

Abstract: Research exploring relationships between leadership behaviors and sickness absence is scarce. Grounded in self-determination theory (SDT), the present study examined: (i) the relationship between need-supportive leadership and sickness absence; and (ii) whether satisfaction of the basic psychological needs mediates the relationship between need-supportive leadership and sickness absence. Municipal employees (n = 347, 78% women, age span = 19–66 years) provided baseline data on perceived need-supportive leadership and reported their need satisfaction at work 8 weeks later. Sickness absence data were obtained from municipality records. Two-part regression models showed that need-supportive leadership was negatively associated with sick days (b = −0.28, 95% CI [−0.45, −0.11]). Need-supportive leadership had an indirect effect on the number of sick days through a composite score of need satisfaction (ab = −1.96, 95% CI [−5.11, −0.12]). Mediation models with each need separately indicated that autonomy (ab = −2.12, 95% CI [−5.33, −0.23]) and relatedness (ab = −1.33, 95% CI [−3.41, −0.11]) mediated the relationship between need-supportive leadership and number of sick days. Need-supportive leadership and need satisfaction at work may function as protective factors that provide followers with opportunities to deal with symptoms of ill health and reduce the risk of prolonged sickness absence.

3. Validation of Sentinel-6MF based lake levels – An assessment with in situ data and other satellite altimetry data

Abstract: The importance of satellite altimetry for monitoring inland water bodies is increasing, with the increasing need for fresh water. With the addition of the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich (MF) in 2020 to the satellite altimetry record, we have parallel high- and low-resolution inland water observations. In this study, we validate Sentinel-6MF low- and high-resolution lake water levels, as determined with a state-space model, with data from 124 gauges in 85 lakes (of size >20 km2) from the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Australia. Furthermore, we estimate the scatter of the observations at 1330 globally distributed lakes. We address the difference in performance when using a physical (ocean) and empirical (OCOG) retracker. Using the 124 gauges as ground truth, we determine a best-case unbiased root mean squared error (u-RMSE) of 6.4 cm for Sentinel-6MF, when using the high-resolution mode and the OCOG retracker. The u-RMSE is between 6.4 and 12.3 cm when correcting for ice-covered lakes, and 15.6 to 31.3 cm for all data, depending on retracker and resolution mode. The corresponding median standard deviation of water surface elevations per transect from the 1330 lakes is 3.5 cm and 8.1 cm for high and low-resolution OCOG-based water levels, respectively. The corresponding median standard deviation of Sentinel-3A/B OCOG (enhanced measurement, 20 Hz mode, baseline-3/4) is 5.9 cm and 6.0 cm. We find a lower u-RMSE and standard deviation for high-resolution data, and the ability to observe more lakes, compared to the low-resolution mode. From this, we see that Sentinel-6MF yields valid estimates of the water surface elevation, including smaller lakes, and would provide additional value to future water level monitoring via remote sensing.

4. Reservoir Filling Up Problems in a Changing Climate:Insights From CryoSat-2 Altimetry

Abstract: Recent droughts have severely threatened water security in many regions worldwide. Reservoirs, designed to combat droughts and secure water supply partially, are reported failing to fill up to the total capacity due to severe droughts. How bad is climate affecting reservoir filling up on a global scale? This issue has not been studied. We present a big picture of reservoirs in crisis using satellite altimetry. Thanks to the unique characteristics of CryoSat-2, 525 reservoirs worldwide were investigated during 2010–2022. Results show that most reservoirs (93%) are found not fully filled up at least once. About 21% of reservoirs, which are mainly located in the Southern Hemisphere, show a significant decline in water levels. Moreover, about 20% of reservoirs with larger level fluctuations (>3 m) are located in less developed economies, indicating informed operation rules are needed. Further analyses indicate reservoirs are largely affected by extreme climate events, such as ENSO.

5. Near real-time altimetry for river monitoring—a global assessment of Sentinel-3

Abstract: For applications such as weather, flood, and drought forecasting that need water level estimates as soon as possible, near real-time (NRT) products are most appropriate. Unlike in-situ sensors for water level measurements, which typically deliver NRT data, satellite altimeters deliver physically meaningful observations with substantial delays after acquisition. The new radar altimetry mission, Sentinel-3, is capable of delivering NRT water levels within a few hours of observation. Currently, it remains unexplored how accurate the NRT product is in the context of river monitoring. This study assesses Sentinel-3A/B NRT products in mapping river water level variations globally. Based on a three-year comparison, we find that the water level derived from NRT is almost as good as that from the delayed products (median root-mean-square error (RMSE): 21.5 cm and 23.5 for S3A and S3B), and both products achieve very similar RMSE values (median: 52.5 cm and 59.0 cm for NRT and non-time critical) against in-situ data at 25 locations. This study highlights the usefulness of Sentinel-3 NRT product for river monitoring and forecasting. And we recommend the NRT product if latency is a primary concern.

Abstract: Accurate predictions of water surface elevation (WSE) in rivers at high spatial and temporal resolution are important for flood/drought risk assessment and flood/drought forecasting and management. WSE in a river is controlled by three main factors: discharge, riverbed geometry, and hydraulic roughness. In remote and poorly instrumented rivers, discharge and riverbed geometry are highly uncertain and WSE is therefore hard to predict. ICESat-2 laser altimetry provides accurate elevation transects across the river at very high spatial resolution (70 cm along track). This paper demonstrates how ICESat-2 elevation transects can be used to parameterize a basin-scale hydraulic model of a continental-scale river. The workflow is demonstrated for the transboundary Amur River in North-East Asia. Simulated WSE is subsequently validated against a large dataset of in situ and satellite altimetry observations, and we demonstrate that the model can reproduce available WSE observations throughout the basin with an accuracy of 1–2 m.

Abstract: Organizational occupational health interventions (OOHIs) that are perceived by employees as relevant for their workplace are more likely to be implemented successfully, yet little is known about the conditions that produce such perceptions. This study identifies the conditions that create a perception among employees that an intervention fits their organization as well as the conditions that result in low levels of perceived fit. We used two-wave data from 40 Danish preschools that underwent a quasi-experimental OOHI. Perceived fit was assessed through employee ratings at follow-up, while survey responses from implementation team members at five time points were used to assess four context and 14 process factors. The results of a coincidence analysis showed that high levels of perceived fit were achieved through two paths. Each path consisted of a lack of co-occurring changes together with either very high levels of managerial support (path_1) or a combination of implementation team role clarity, staff involvement, and team learning (path_2). In contrast, low levels of perceived fit were brought about by single factors: limited leader support, low degree of role clarity, or concurrent organizational changes. The findings reveal the complexity involved in implementing OOHIs and offer insights into reasons they may fail.

10. ICE2WSS; An R package for estimating river water surface slopes from ICESat-2

Abstract: River water surface slopes (WSS) can improve the performance of rating curves for discharge estimates and provides information about river hydraulic processes and phenomena. Utilising the beam pattern of ICESat-2, the WSS can be estimated by the slope of a linear regression of the water surface elevation and the distance along the river. This paper presents a robust processing scheme for calculating WSS along rivers in the SWOT River Database. We demonstrate the processing scheme for the Amur River basin using four years of data. This yields 7306 WSS estimates across 1693 reaches approximately 10 km in length. The slopes were estimated between 0.60 cm/km and 651.04 cm/km with a median standard error of 0.47 cm/km. The method works for slopes larger than 0.5 cm/km and river widths larger than 50 m. The software presented in this paper is available as the R package ICE2WSS on Github (https://github.com/lindchr/ICE2WSS).

Abstract: The Copernicus Sentinel-3 Surface Topography Mission (STM) Land Altimetry provides valuable surface elevation information over inland waters, sea ice, and land ice, thanks to its synthetic aperture radar (SAR) altimeter and its orbit that covers high-latitude polar regions. To ensure that these measurements are reliable and to maximise the return on investment, adequate validation of the geophysical retrieval methods, processing algorithms, and corrections must be performed using independent observations. The EU-ESA project St3TART (started July 2021) aims to generalise the concept of Fiducial Reference Measurements (FRMs) for the Copernicus Sentinel-3 STM. This work has gathered existing data, made new observations during field campaigns, and ensured that these observations meet the criteria of FRM standards so that they can be used to validate Sentinel-3 STM Land Altimetry products operationally. A roadmap for the operational provision of the FRM, including the definition, consolidation, and identification of the most relevant and cost-effective methods and protocols to be maintained, supported, or implemented, has been developed. The roadmap includes guidelines for SI traceability, definitions of FRM measurement procedures, processing methods, and uncertainty budget estimations.

13. Res-CN (Reservoir dataset in China): hydrometeorological time series and landscape attributes across 3254 Chinese reservoirs

Abstract: Dams and reservoirs are human-made infrastructures that have attracted increasing attention because of their societal and environmental significance. Towards better management and conservation of reservoirs, a dataset of reservoir-catchment characteristics is needed, considering that the amount of water and material flowing into and out of reservoirs depends on their locations on the river network and the properties of the upstream catchment. To date, no dataset exists for reservoir-catchment characteristics. The aim of this study is to develop the first database featuring reservoir-catchment characteristics for 3254 reservoirs with storage capacity totaling 682 595 km3 (73.2 % of reservoir water storage capacity in China) to support the management and conservation of reservoirs in the context of catchment level. To ensure a more representative and accurate mapping of local variables of large reservoirs, reservoir catchments are delineated into full catchments (their full upstream contributing areas) and intermediate catchments (subtracting the area contributed by upstream reservoirs from the full upstream part of the current reservoir). Using both full catchments and intermediate catchments, characteristics of reservoir catchments were extracted, with a total of 512 attributes in six categories (i.e., reservoir and catchment body characteristics, topography, climate, soil and geology, land cover and use, and anthropogenic activity characteristics). Besides these static attributes, time series of 15 meteorological variables of catchments were extracted to support hydrological simulations for a better understanding of drivers of reservoir environment change. Moreover, we provide a comprehensive and extensive reservoir dataset on water level (data available for 20 % of 3254 reservoirs), water surface area (99 %), storage anomaly (92 %), and evaporation (98 %) from multisource satellites such as radar and laser altimeters and images from Landsat and Sentinel

14. River hydraulic modeling with ICESat-2 land and water surface elevation

Abstract: Advances in geodetic altimetry instruments are providing more accurate measurements, thus enabling satellite missions to produce useful data for narrow rivers and streams. Altimetry missions produce spatially dense land and water surface elevation (WSE) measurements in remote areas where in situ data are scarce that can be combined with hydraulic and/or hydrodynamic models to simulate WSE and estimate discharge. In this study, we combine ICESat-2 (Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite) land and water surface elevation measurements with a low-parameterized hydraulic calibration to simulate WSE and discharge without the need for surveyed cross-sectional geometry and a rainfall–runoff model. ICESat-2 provides an opportunity to map river cross-sectional geometry very accurately, with an along-track resolution of 0.7 m, using the ATL03 product. These measurements are combined with the inland water product ATL13 to calibrate a steady-state hydraulic model to retrieve unobserved hydraulic parameters such as river depth or the roughness coefficient. The low-parameterized model, together with the assumption of steady-state hydraulics, enables the application of a global search algorithm for a spatially uniform parameter calibration at a manageable computational cost. The model performance is similar to that reported for highly parameterized models, with a root mean square error (RMSE) of around 0.41 m. With the calibrated model, we can calculate the WSE time series at any chainage point at any time for an available satellite pass within the river reach and estimate discharge from WSE. The discharge estimates are validated with in situ measurements at two available gauging stations. In addition, we use the calibrated parameters in a full hydrodynamic model simulation, resulting in a RMSE of 0.59 m for the entire observation period.

Each path consisted of a lack of co-occurring changes together with either very high levels of managerial support (path_1) or a combination of implementation team role clarity, staff involvement, and team learning (path_2). In contrast, low levels of perceived fit were brought about by single factors: limited leader support, low degree of role clarity, or concurrent organizational changes. The findings reveal the complexity involved in implementing OOHIs and offer insights into reasons they may fail.

Abstract: AIMS: Women report worse health-related patient-reported outcomes (PROs) compared with men following acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, this association is not well established when accounting for demographic and clinical patient characteristics at discharge. This knowledge is essential for clinicians when planning individualised care for patients following AMI. The aim of this study is to examine whether gender is associated with health-related PROs at discharge from a Danish heart centre, combining PROs with data from the national health and administrative registries. METHODS AND RESULTS: A cross-sectional study of 2131 patients with AMI discharged from a Danish heart centre responding to the following health-related PRO questionnaires: the Health-survey Short-Form-12 (SF-12), generating a physical component summary (PCS) and a mental component summary (MCS) score; the HeartQoL, providing a global, emotional, and physical score; the EuroQol five-dimensional questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L) and the EQ visual analogue scale (EQ VAS); the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), generating an anxiety and depression score (HADS-A and HADS-D); the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS); the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (B-IPQ). Patient-reported outcomes were linked to registry-based information adjusting for potential demographic and clinical confounding factors. In adjusted regression models, women reported worse health-related PROs compared with men in SF-12 PCS and SF-12 MCS, HeartQoL global, the HeartQoL emotional and HeartQoL physical score, EQ-5D-5L and EQ VAS, the HADS-A, ESAS, and in six out of eight B-IPQ items. CONCLUSIONS: Women reported worse health-related PROs compared with men. Health-related PROs have the potential to be further investigated to facilitate a more individualised healthcare follow-up after AMI.

Abstract: Reservoirs and dams are essential infrastructure in water management; thus, information of their surface water area (SWA), water surface elevation (WSE), and reservoir water storage change (RWSC) is crucial for understanding their properties and interactions in hydrological and biogeochemical cycles. However, knowledge of these reservoir characteristics is scarce or inconsistent at the national scale. Here, we introduce comprehensive reservoir datasets of 338 reservoirs in China, with a total of 470.6 km3 storage capacity (50% Chinese reservoir storage capacity). Given the scarcity of publicly available gauged observations and operational applications of satellites for hydrological cycles, we utilize multiple satellite altimetry missions (SARAL/AltiKa, Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B, CroySat-2, Jason-3, and ICESat-2) and imagery data from Landsat and Sentinel-2 to produce a comprehensive reservoir dataset on the WSE, SWA, and RWSC during 2010-2021. Validation against gauged measurements of 93 reservoirs demonstrates the relatively high accuracy and reliability of our remotely sensed datasets. (1) Across gauge comparisons of RWSC, the median statistics of the Pearson correlation coefficient (CC), normalized root mean square error (NRMSE), and root mean square error (RMSE) are 0.89, 11%, and 0.021 km3, with a total of 91% validated reservoirs (83 of 91) having good RMSE from 0.002 to 0.31 km3 and NRMSE values smaller than 20%. (2) Comparisons of WSE retracked by six satellite altimeters and gauges show good agreement. Specifically, the percentages of reservoirs having good and moderate RMSE values smaller than 1.0m for CryoSat-2 (validated in 30 reservoirs), SARAL/AltiKa (9), Sentinel-3A (34), Sentinel-3B (25), Jason-3 (11), and ICESat-2 (26) are 77%, 75%, 79%, 87%, 81%, and 82%, respectively. Abstract: A key requisite for successful organisational interventions is participation, meaning that employees and managers in collaboration identify and implement changes to the way work is organised, designed and managed (Nielsen & Noblet, 2018). From a scientific standpoint, the dominant method used to evaluate whether such interventions achieve the intended outcomes, in particular better employee wellbeing and working conditions, is the analyses of changes over time, for example through comparing before and after surveys distributed to workers (Richardson & Rothstein, 2008). If a significant improvement in wellbeing has happened, then researchers conclude that the intervention was a success. Less attention has been paid to if and how organisational members perceive the intervention to be a success (von Thiele Schwarz et al., 2021). Indeed, von Thiele Schwarz et al. (2021) argued that interventions should not only benefit science, but also the participating organisations. In this debate paper, we build on Weick’s sensemaking theory (Weick, 1995) and argue that engaging in organisational interventions provides stimuli and cues that organisational members translate into cognitive schemata. This sensemaking process is important to understand as it may influence how the organisational members will engage in future initiatives to improve employee wellbeing – and this sustainability should be included as a key part of whether an intervention is successful or not. We term this sustainability perspective change capability, i.e., as part of the intervention, organisational members should learn how to continually engage in improvement processes to improve employee wellbeing (Nielsen & Abildgaard, 2013). Abstract: Reservoir release is an essential variable as it affects hydrological processes and water availability downstream. This study aims to estimate reservoir release using a satellite‐based approach, specially focusing on the impacts of inflow simulations and reservoir water storage change (RWSC) on release estimates. Ten inflow simulations based on hydrological models and blending schemes are used in combination with three RWSC estimates based on two satellite‐based approaches. A case study is performed at the Ankang reservoir, China. The results demonstrate that release estimates show high skill, with normalized root‐mean‐square error (NRMSE) less than 0.12 and Kling‐Gupta Efficiency (KGE) over 0.65. The performance of release estimates is varying with and influenced by inflow simulations and RWSC estimates, with NRMSE ranging from 0.09–0.12 and KGE from 0.65–0.74. Based on time‐varying Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA) approaches and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite datasets, more accurate inflow and RWSC estimates can be obtained, thus facilitating substantially release estimates. With multi‐source satellite datasets, temporal scale of reservoir estimates is increased (monthly and bi‐weekly), acting as a key supplement to in situ records. Overall, this study explores the possibility to reconstruct and facilitate reservoir release estimates in poorly gauged dammed basins using hydrological modeling techniques and multi‐source satellite datasets.

Abstract: Satellite altimetry is a key technique to measure water level change in continental water bodies. Altimetry-based water level time series of rivers are typically constructed at locations where the satellite ground tracks intersect the rivers, the so-called virtual stations. The relatively low sampling frequency (10–27 days) of the repeat missions may result in an under-sampling of the hydrological regime in rivers with sub-monthly to weekly events. We are currently in a unique position with more than a handful satellite altimetry missions simultaneously mapping the surface elevation of the Earth. In combination, these missions contain an unexploited potential to obtain a more detailed picture of the hydrological regime of many of the Earth's rivers. The task of combining water levels measured at different locations and/or by satellites with different orbits is however, challenging due to e.g. topography, intermission biases, variation in river morphology, and other unidentified causes. In this work, we present a new method to combine multi-mission altimetry-based water levels from a river reach. This will also enable the use of geodetic missions like CryoSat-2 and SARAL/AltiKa (after June 2016) in water level time series. To combine the data we set up a state-space model where the process part is a first-order autoregressive process. The observations as a function of time and distance along the reach are described as a sum of the water level at a given time scaled by a distance-dependent factor, the mean water level at the given distance, and an error term. The scale factor and the mean water level are modeled with spline functions. We employ the model for the six rivers Lena, Solimões, Mississippi, Danube, Po, and Red, which range in width from 3 km to a few hundred meters. For each river, we consider a reach of 200–300 km and apply water levels from the satellite altimetry missions CryoSat-2, Sentinel-3A/3B, and SARAL/AltiKa. The selected reach must have

Abstract: In 2018 we celebrated 25 years of development of radar altimetry, and the progress achieved by this methodology in the fields of global and coastal oceanography, hydrology, geodesy and cryospheric sciences. Many symbolic major events have celebrated these developments, e.g., in Venice, Italy, the 15th (2006) and 20th (2012) years of progress and more recently, in 2018, in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, 25 Years of Progress in Radar Altimetry. On this latter occasion it was decided to collect contributions of scientists, engineers and managers involved in the worldwide altimetry community to depict the state of altimetry and propose recommendations for the altimetry of the future. This paper summarizes contributions and recommendations that were collected and provides guidance for future mission design, research activities, and sustainable operational radar altimetry data exploitation. Recommendations provided are fundamental for optimizing further scientific and operational advances of oceanographic observations by altimetry, including requirements for spatial and temporal resolution of altimetric measurements, their accuracy and continuity. There are also new challenges and new openings mentioned in the paper that are particularly crucial for observations at higher latitudes, for coastal oceanography, for cryospheric studies and for hydrology. The paper starts with a general introduction followed by a section on Earth System Science including Ocean Dynamics, Sea Level, the Coastal Ocean, Hydrology, the Cryosphere and Polar Oceans and the “Green” Ocean, extending the frontier from biogeochemistry to marine ecology. Applications are described in a subsequent section, which covers Operational Oceanography, Weather, Hurricane Wave and Wind Forecasting, Climate projection. Abstract: In 2018 we celebrated 25 years of development of radar altimetry, and the progress achieved by this methodology in the fields of global and coastal oceanography, hydrology, geodesy and cryospheric sciences. Many symbolic major events have celebrated these developments, e.g., in Venice, Italy, the 15th (2006) and 20th (2012) years of progress and more recently, in 2018, in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, 25 Years of Progress in Radar Altimetry. On this latter occasion it was decided to collect contributions of scientists, engineers and managers involved in the worldwide altimetry community to depict the state of altimetry and propose recommendations for the altimetry of the future. This paper summarizes contributions and recommendations that were collected and provides guidance for future mission design, research activities, and sustainable operational radar altimetry data exploitation. Recommendations provided are fundamental for optimizing further scientific and operational advances of oceanographic observations by altimetry, including requirements for spatial and temporal resolution of altimetric measurements, their accuracy and continuity. There are also new challenges and new openings mentioned in the paper that are particularly crucial for observations at higher latitudes, for coastal oceanography, for cryospheric studies and for hydrology. The paper starts with a general introduction followed by a section on Earth System Science including Ocean Dynamics, Sea Level, the Coastal Ocean, Hydrology, the Cryosphere and Polar Oceans and the “Green” Ocean, extending the frontier from biogeochemistry to marine ecology. Applications are described in a subsequent section, which covers Operational Oceanography, Weather, Hurricane Wave and Wind Forecasting, Climate projection. The purpose of the present study is therefore to examine how factors related to transfer of training influence outcomes of leadership training. Design/methodology/approach: In the present research, follower-rated outcomes of a leadership training program in Denmark (N = 298) was examined from a transfer of training perspective. Findings: Using Baldwin and Ford's transfer of training model as a framework, analyses revealed that leaders' utility reactions (i.e. perception of usefulness) and learning were linked to transfer of training. In addition, leaders' perceptions of transfer were associated with post-intervention follower-rated transformational leadership and collective self-efficacy. Practical implications: Making sure that leaders find the training useful for their everyday activities (i.e. positive utility reactions) and that they have time to learn the training content is important to enable transfer and for leaders to use trained skills back at work. Originality/value: The findings indicate the importance of understanding how leaders' perception of training content influences leadership training outcomes and that these perceptions need to be a part of the evaluation of leadership training. In addition, the findings suggest that factors predicting transfer of leadership training differ from other types of training.

Abstract: Beginning in 2015, the United States Environmental Protection Agencys (EPAs) National Estuary Program (NEP) started a collaboration with partners in seven estuaries along the East Coast (Barnegat Bay; Casco Bay), West Coast (Santa Monica Bay; San Francisco Bay; Tillamook Bay), and the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Coast (Tampa Bay; Mission-Aransas Estuary) of the United States to expand the use of autonomous monitoring of partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) and pH. Analysis of high-frequency (hourly to sub-hourly) coastal acidification data including pCO2, pH, temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen (DO) indicate that the sensors effectively captured key parameter measurements under challenging environmental conditions, allowing for an initial characterization of daily to seasonal trends in carbonate chemistry across a range of estuarine settings. Multi-year monitoring showed that across all water bodies temperature and pCO2 covaried, suggesting that pCO2 variability was governed, in part, by seasonal temperature changes with average pCO2 being lower in cooler, winter months and higher in warmer, summer months. Furthermore, the timing of seasonal shifts towards increasing (or decreasing) pCO2 varied by location and appears to be related to regional climate conditions. Specifically, pCO2 increases began earlier in the year in warmer water, lower latitude water bodies in the GOM (Tampa Bay; Mission-Aransas Estuary) as compared with cooler water, higher latitude water bodies in the northeast (Barnegat Bay; Casco Bay), and upwelling-influenced West Coast water bodies (Tillamook Bay; Santa Monica Bay; San Francisco Bay). Results suggest that both thermal and non-thermal influences are important drivers of pCO2 in Tampa Bay oxygen, National Estuary Program and Mission-Aransas Estuary. Conversely, non-thermal processes, most notably the biogeochemical structure of coastal upwelling, appear to be largely responsible for the observed pCO2 values in West Coast water bodies.

Abstract: In 2018 we celebrated 25 years of development of radar altimetry, and the progress achieved by this methodology in the fields of global and coastal oceanography, hydrology, geodesy and cryospheric sciences. Many symbolic major events have celebrated these developments, e.g., in Venice, Italy, the 15th (2006) and 20th (2012) years of progress and more recently, in 2018, in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, 25 Years of Progress in Radar Altimetry. On this latter occasion it was decided to collect contributions of scientists, engineers and managers involved in the worldwide altimetry community to depict the state of altimetry and propose recommendations for the altimetry of the future. This paper summarizes contributions and recommendations that were collected and provides guidance for future mission design, research activities, and sustainable operational radar altimetry data exploitation. Recommendations provided are fundamental for optimizing further scientific and operational advances of oceanographic observations by altimetry, including requirements for spatial and temporal resolution of altimetric measurements, their accuracy and continuity. There are also new challenges and new openings mentioned in the paper that are particularly crucial for observations at higher latitudes, for coastal oceanography, for cryospheric studies and for hydrology. The paper starts with a general introduction followed by a section on Earth System Science including Ocean Dynamics, Sea Level, the Coastal Ocean, Hydrology, the Cryosphere and Polar Oceans and the “Green” Ocean, extending the frontier from biogeochemistry to marine ecology. Applications are described in a subsequent section, which covers Operational Oceanography, Weather, Hurricane Wave and Wind Forecasting, Climate projection. Abstract: Research on organizational interventions needs to meet the objectives of both researchers and participating organizations. This duality means that real-world impact has to be considered throughout the research process, simultaneously addressing both scientific rigour and practical relevance. This discussion paper aims to offer a set of principles, grounded in knowledge from various disciplines that can guide researchers in designing, implementing, and evaluating organizational interventions. Inspired by Mode 2 knowledge production, the principles were developed through a transdisciplinary, participatory and iterative process where practitioners and academics were invited to develop, refine and validate the principles. The process resulted in 10 principles: 1) Ensure active engagement and participation among key stakeholders; 2) Understand the situation (starting points and objectives); 3) Align the intervention with existing organizational objectives; 4) Explicate the program logic; 5) Prioritize intervention activities based on effort-gain balance; 6) Work with existing practices, processes, and mindsets; 7) Iteratively observe, reflect, and adapt; 8) Develop organizational learning capabilities; 9) Evaluate the interaction between intervention, process, and context; and 10) Transfer knowledge beyond the specific organization. The principles suggest how the design, implementation, and evaluation of organizational interventions can be researched in a way that maximizes both practical and scientific impact.

46. What about me? The impact of employee change agents’ person-role fit on their job satisfaction during organisational change

Abstract: Organisational changes do not always achieve their intended outcomes and have been found to have negative consequences on employee wellbeing. It has been argued that this is because change processes need to support employees adopting the change. In the present study, we study an organisational change aimed to improve employee capacity to provide eHealth services. To support the change, employees were appointed change agents and trained in running seminars to facilitate the change. Using Person-Job fit as our theoretical framework, we proposed that change agents who perceived they possess the necessary competencies to deal with the change agent role (Person-Role fit) would feel more efficacious in this role and be more satisfied with their jobs post-change. We suggested that role-specific self-efficacy mediated the relationship between person-role fit and job satisfaction and that the most dissatisfied pre-change would perceive the greatest improvements in job satisfaction. Using a paired t-test, repeated measures analyses and mixed methods mediation testing, we found that change agents (N = 110) reported increased job satisfaction post-change. Change agents who were dissatisfied with their jobs pre-change, but perceived a good fit to the change agent role, reported the greatest improvements in job satisfaction. No significant results were found for self-efficacy.

47. Integrating a transfer perspective into evaluations of leadership training

Abstract: Purpose: In previous studies, outcomes of leadership training have varied, with some studies suggesting large effects and others small. Although the transfer of training literature suggests a number of factors that influence training outcomes, this knowledge has seldom been used when evaluating the outcomes of leadership training. The purpose of the present study is therefore to examine how factors related to transfer of training influence outcomes of leadership training. Design/methodology/approach: In the present research, follower-rated outcomes of a leadership training program in Denmark (N = 298) was examined from a transfer of training perspective. Findings: Using Baldwin and Ford's transfer of training model as a framework, analyses revealed that leaders' utility reactions (i.e. perception of usefulness) and learning were linked to transfer of training. In addition, leaders' perceptions of transfer were associated with post-intervention follower-rated transformational leadership and collective self-efficacy. Practical implications: Making sure that leaders find the training useful for their everyday activities (i.e. positive utility reactions) and that they have time to learn the training content is important to enable transfer and for leaders to use trained skills back at work. Originality/value: The findings indicate the importance of understanding how leaders' perception of training content influences leadership training outcomes and that these perceptions need to be a part of the evaluation of leadership training. In addition, the findings suggest that factors predicting transfer of leadership training differ from other types of training.

48. How to design, implement and evaluate organizational interventions for maximum impact : the Sigtuna Principles

Abstract: Research on organizational interventions needs to meet the objectives of both researchers and participating organizations. This duality means that real-world impact has to be considered throughout the research process, simultaneously addressing both scientific rigour and practical relevance. This discussion paper aims to offer a set of principles, grounded in knowledge from various disciplines that can guide researchers in designing, implementing, and evaluating organizational interventions. Inspired by Mode 2 knowledge production, the principles were developed through a transdisciplinary, participatory and iterative process where practitioners and academics were invited to develop, refine and validate the principles. The process resulted in 10 principles: 1) Ensure active engagement and participation among key stakeholders; 2) Understand the situation (starting points and objectives); 3) Align the intervention with existing organizational objectives; 4) Explicate the program logic; 5) Prioritize intervention activities based on effort-gain balance; 6) Work with existing practices, processes, and mindsets; 7) Iteratively observe, reflect, and adapt; 8) Develop organizational learning capabilities; 9) Evaluate the interaction between intervention, process, and context; and 10) Transfer knowledge beyond the specific organization. The principles suggest how the design, implementation, and evaluation of organizational interventions can be researched in a way that maximizes both practical and scientific impact. © 2020 The Author(s). 49. Integrating a transfer perspective into evaluations of leadership training

Abstract: Purpose: In previous studies, outcomes of leadership training have varied, with some studies suggesting large effects and others small. Although the transfer of training literature suggests a number of factors that influence training outcomes, this knowledge has seldom been used when evaluating the outcomes of leadership training. The purpose of the present study is therefore to examine how factors related to transfer of training influence outcomes of leadership training. Design/methodology/approach: In the present research, follower-rated outcomes of a leadership training program in Denmark (N = 298) was examined from a transfer of training perspective. Findings: Using Baldwin and Ford's transfer of training model as a framework, analyses revealed that leaders' utility reactions (i.e. perception of usefulness) and learning were linked to transfer of training. In addition, leaders' perceptions of transfer were associated with post-intervention follower-rated transformational leadership and collective self-efficacy. Practical implications: Making sure that leaders find the training useful for their everyday activities (i.e. positive utility reactions) and that they have time to learn the training content is important to enable transfer and for leaders to use trained skills back at work. Originality/value: The findings indicate the importance of understanding how leaders' perception of training content influences leadership training outcomes and that these perceptions need to be a part of the evaluation of leadership training. In addition, the findings suggest that factors predicting transfer of leadership training differ from other types of training.
