Quantum physics (QP) education at the secondary school level is still in its infancy. Not only is there ongoing discussion about how to teach this subject, but there is also a lack of coherence in the selection of concepts to be taught, both across countries and over time. To contribute to this discussion, we investigated the perspectives of N = 39 high school teachers, university-level physics educators, and physics education researchers regarding the essential concepts in QP and the corresponding illustrations that should be introduced at the secondary school level. We examined the prominence of different key concepts and illustrations, as well as the level of consensus among the various professional groups. Our analysis revealed that certain key concepts are universally valued across all professional groups, while others are specific to particular groups. Additionally, we explored the relationships between these key concepts and their corresponding illustrations. With the increasing industrial relevance of new quantum technologies, a well-educated quantum workforce becomes increasingly crucial. The foreseeable lack of workforce raises important questions. What are the expectations regarding the future relevance of second-generation quantum technologies What are the requirements for the workforce in the coming quantum industry Which competences, knowledge, and skills should future employees have In this paper, we report the results of our study that were aimed at mapping requirements and forecasts for the future quantum workforce. Our study consisted of three consecutive survey rounds. In total, we gathered 188 responses from industry and academic experts across Europe. Our study results served as an input for the development of the European Competence Framework for Quantum Technologies, delivered by the project QTEdu CSA for the European Quantum Flagship. In addition, we will discuss predictions from experts related to the future quantum workforce, including the expected industrial relevance of the main areas of quantum technologies, the need for educational efforts, and the expected influence of quantum technologies on everyday life.

Die Arbeit untersucht die Verhandlungen zwischen der europäischen Kommission, dem Rat der EU und dem EU-Parlament während des ordentlichen Gesetzgebungsverfahrens zur Governance-Verordnung der Energieunion. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf der Untersuchung der Entscheidungsfindung innerhalb der beiden Gesetzgeber und während des anschließenden informellen Trilogs. Ziel der Arbeit ist es dabei, die Ausgestaltung des finalen Rechtsaktes zu erklären. Im ersten Schritt wird der Verhandlungserfolg der Akteure ermittelt. Hierzu werden zuerst die Positionen der Akteure ermittelt und dann mit dem Ergebnis der Verhandlungen abgeglichen. Der Verhandlungserfolg der Kommission und der beiden Gesetzgeber, sowie der aller Mitgliedstaaten und Fraktionen wird quantifiziert. Im zweiten Schritt wird der Versuch unternommen, den ermittelten Verhandlungserfolg zu erklären. Auf Basis des akteurzentrierten Institutionalismus werden fünf Hypothesen abgeleitet, welche Einflussfaktoren formulieren, die den zuvor ermittelten Verhandlungserfolg erklären sollen: Koalitionen zwischen Akteuren innerhalb des EU-Parlaments beziehungsweise des Rats, Kooperation zwischen EU-Parlament, Rat und Kommission, Regierungswechsel, Fraktionskohäsion und individuelle Handlungsressourcen. Anwendung findet ein Mixed-Methods-Design. Als Methoden kommen Regressionsanalysen, Netzwerkanalysen, Indices, Korrelationen sowie strukturierende Inhaltsanalysen zum Einsatz. Als empirische Grundlage dienen insbesondere Dokumente aus den Verhandlungen sowie 21 Experteninterviews. In the fall of 2019, the research club changING started as an outreach program in the Cluster of Excellence SE2A. While the cluster deals with interdisciplinary research topics to explore technologies for sustainable and environmentally friendly aviation, the associated research club offers students from the 10th grade onwards the opportunity to gain insights into engineering. The target group here is primarily young women, who are heavily underrepresented in this career field. The research club is experience-oriented and offers high school students the opportunity to explore engineering, its systems, technologies, applications, and social and cultural significance by participating in different projects at various engineering institutes in the Cluster. During their four years of participation in the club, which is voluntary, students are challenged to discover, create, construct, and solve problems. In the process, students learn different engineering concepts and skills. Currently, three batches (75 highschool students) actively participate in the program, accompanied by engineering Bachelor students who serve as mentors. This paper presents the structure of the research club which is based primarily on theories of the emergence and development of individual interests and self-efficacy expectations. A well-known model depicting the development of individual interests is the four-phase model. This model is considered the basis for the structure of the research club program. In this paper, the most important factors in the set-up of the research club and the expected results as well as the many lessons learned are presented.

Messunsicherheiten sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil eines Messergebnisses. Das Thema wird jedoch oft vernachlässigt in der Sekundarstufe, und die Schüler*innen haben viel Schwierigkeiten mit Varianz in Datensätzen. Diese Arbeit berichtet über die Gestaltung und Evaluierung einer digitalen Lernumgebung (DLE). Die konzeptbasierte DLE nutzt ein etabliertes Sachstrukturmodell für die Sekundarstufe und besteht aus drei Teilen: Einführung in und Grundlagen von Messunsicherheiten, Berechnung und Bedeutung des Mittelwerts und der Unsicherheit sowie dem Vergleich von Messergebnissen. Die Wirkung wurde in einem Prä-Post-Design getestet. Der Prä- und Posttest umfasste zwei Prüfungsaufgaben: einen Kompetenztest und ein Datenvergleichsproblem, bei dem eine mit Begründung versehene Entscheidung getroffen werden musste. Die Teilnehmenden wurden nach dem Zufallsprinzip einer der drei Gruppen A, B oder C zugeteilt und bekamen einen, zwei oder alle drei Teile der DLE gezeigt. Insgesamt nahmen 154 Schüler*innen der Klassenstufen 8 bis 11 freiwillig und selbstständig teil. Diese Studie hat gezeigt, dass mit zunehmendem konzeptionellen Wissen die Fähigkeit der Schüler*innen, Datensätze zu vergleichen, deutlich zunimmt. Der konzeptbasierte DLE kan selbstständig von Schüler*innen in 60 Min. bearbeitet werden. Das Kodiermanual ermöglicht eine schnelle Analyse der Begründungen der Schüler*innen im Rahmen von Datenvergleichsproblemen. Dieses Manual kann leicht in der Schule eingesetzt werden. Diese Codes zeigen in einem feinkörnigen Detail die Qualität und Entwicklung der Fähigkeit der Schüler*innen, Datensätze zu vergleichen. Es wurden keine Korrelationen zwischen der Klassenstufe und dem Ergebnis des Kompetenztests oder der Begründungsqualität gefunden. Der Erfolg der DLE und das gleichzeitige Fehlen eines solchen Zusammenhangs bedeutet, dass das Thema Messunsicherheiten bereits in der achten Klasse eingeführt werden kann., Measurement uncertainties are an essential part of a measurement result. The topic is, however, rarely addressed in secondary education and students struggle a lot with variance in data sets. This thesis reports on the design and evaluation of a Digital Learning Environment (DLE). The concept-based DLE uses an established subject matter model for secondary education and consists of three parts: introduction to and underpinnings of measurement uncertainties, calculation and meaning of the mean value and the uncertainty, and the comparison of measurement results. The effect was tested in a pre-post design. The pre and post-test consisted of two probes: a competency test and a data comparison problem where a decision had to be made supported by a justification. Participants were randomly assigned one of three groups A, B, or C and were shown one, two, or all three parts of the DLE. A total of 154 students of grades 8-11 participated voluntarily and independently. This work has shown that with increased conceptual knowledge, students' ability to compare data sets increases significantly. The concept-based teaching can be done by having students work independently with the DLE in 60 min. The coding manual allows for a quick analysis of students' justifications in the context of data comparison problems. This coding manual can be easily used in school settings. These codes show, in a fine-grained detail, the quality and development of students' ability to compare data sets. No correlations have been found between grade level and competency test score or justification quality. The success of the DLE and the simultaneous absence of any such correlation means that the topic of measurement uncertainties can be introduced as early as eighth grade.

Shorter production lifecycles, new challenges due to the advancing globalization, and increasing demand for individualized products are only some of the general conditions that internationally operating manufacturing companies have to face. Therefore, adaptable production systems are required which can be changed to the current requirements of the production process. In this article, a modular visual assistance system is presented which can be integrated in different production systems and environments. For a successful integration of the assistance system a calibration is indispensable, thus a calibration method for one component of the assistance system is discussed in detail. In order to control the system, a visual data flow programming tool is used in combination with MQTT as a standard communication protocol. By doing so, the programming effort of the system is reduced and new components can easily be added to the system by creating new flows.

BACKGROUND The prevalence of dizziness increases with age. We aimed to determine the point prevalence of dizziness and, in particular, of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) among retirement home residents. Furthermore, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a 2-axis turntable based BPPV treatment. METHODS We contacted all large retirement homes in or around the city of Zurich (Switzerland). 10 retirement homes (with a total of 536 residents) agreed to participate in this study. 83 rejected inquiries by residents led to a potential study population of 453 residents. After a structured interview evaluating the presence and characteristics of dizziness, all willing patients were tested for positional vertigo and nystagmus on a portable and manually operated 2-axis turntable that was transported to the retirement home. Testing consisted of the Dix-Hallpike and supine roll maneuvers to both sides. Participants were immediately treated with the appropriate liberation maneuver whenever BPPV was diagnosed. Otherwise, taking the resident's medical history, a neuro-otological bedside examination, and a review of the available medical documentation was used to identify other causes of dizziness. RESULTS Out of the 453 residents, 75 (16.6%; average age: 87.0 years; 68% female) were suffering from dizziness presently or in the recent past and gave their consent to participate in this study. Among the participants tested on the turntable (n = 71), BPPV was present in 11.3% (point prevalence). Time-related properties, triggering factors and qualitative attributes of vertigo or dizziness were not significantly different between the dizzy participants with and those without BPPV. In all BPPV patients, appropriate liberation maneuvers were successful. CONCLUSIONS BPPV could be demonstrated in about one tenth of retirement home residents with dizziness or recent dizziness. Digitalization in seaports dovetails the IT infrastructure of various actors (e.g., shipping companies, terminals, customs, port authorities) to process complex workflows for shipping containers. The security of these workflows relies not only on the security of each individual actor but actors must also provide additional guarantees to other actors like, for instance, respecting obligations related to received data or checking the integrity of workflows observed so far. This paper analyses global security requirements (e.g., accountability, confidentiality) of the workflows and decomposes them - according to the way workflow data is stored and distributed - into requirements and obligations for the individual actors. Hierzu wird ein digitales Fabrikabbild von Bestandsanlagen erzeugt, das anschließend mit einem Prozessmodell auf Basis von Skills abgeglichen wird. Die dafür notwendige, nicht-sequenzielle Lösungsfindung geeigneter Ressourcen-Prozess-Paarungen wird durch die Entwicklung einer Blackboard-Architektur erreicht., To reduce system integration efforts in assembly systems ("Plug & Produce"), a methodology is presented that automates resource selection, configuration and programming. For this purpose, a Digital Factory Twin of existing installations is generated, which is then matched with a skill-based model of the production process. In order to find suitable resources, a Blackboard Architecture is developed, to cope with the non-sequential solution finding process.

For this purpose, a Digital Factory Twin of existing installations is generated, which is then matched with a skill-based model of the production process. In order to find suitable resources, a Blackboard Architecture is developed, to cope with the non-sequential solution finding process.

This evidence-based clinical guideline provides consensus-recommendations for the treatment and care of patients with primary antibody deficiencies (PADs). The guideline group comprised 20 clinical and scientific expert associations of the German, Swiss, and Austrian healthcare system and representatives of patients. Recommendations were based on results of a systematic literature search, data extraction, and evaluation of methodology and study quality in combination with the clinical expertise of the respective representatives. Consensus-based recommendations were determined via nominal group technique. PADs are the largest clinically relevant group of primary immunodeficiencies. Most patients with PADs present with increased susceptibility to infections, however immune dysregulation, autoimmunity, and cancer affect a significant number of patients and may precede infections. This guideline therefore covers interdisciplinary clinical and therapeutic aspects of infectious (e.g., antibiotic prophylaxis, management of bronchiectasis) and non-infectious manifestations (e.g., management of granulomatous disease, immune cytopenia). PADs are grouped into disease entities with definitive, probable, possible, or unlikely benefit of IgG-replacement therapy. Summary and consensus-recommendations are provided for treatment indication, dosing, routes of administration, and adverse events of IgG-replacement therapy. Special aspects of concomitant impaired T-cell function are highlighted as well as clinical data on selected monogenetic inborn errors of immunity formerly classified into PADs (APDS, CTLA-4-, and LRBA-deficiency).

Purpose: Seaports are to a growing extent controlled by IT systems. Smooth information exchange is crucial for business. Downtimes give rise to substantial financial losses and supply bottlenecks, due to the interconnections in a complex alliance of port stakeholders‘ systems. Hence, Cyber security in an important aspect in Port Communication Systems. Methodology: The project SecProPort will develop a holistic IT security architecture for port communication networks, which will support the security requirements of the stakeholders‘ operating procedures, protect them against sabotage, and prevent third parties from illicitly gathering sensitive data or getting unauthorized access to the communications network. Findings: The desired architecture is to be implemented by first analyzing typical attack scenarios targeted at the data processed in the port communication alliance. The next step entails designing the actual security architecture for the alliance and installing a prototype in collaboration with the application partners. Originality: SecProPort aims at a holistic approach with respect to secure port communications networks, rather than addressing individual stakeholders. The architecture will also provide resilience measures for minimizing the impact on other actors in the alliance in case of an incident, and returning to normal operation in a controlled manner.

Heutige Kraftfahrzeuge stellen komplexe mechatronische Systeme dar. Dem gegenüber stehen Trends in der Produktion,wie bspw. Industrie 4.0. Die Trends wirken sich auch auf die automobile Endmontage aus, da hier neue ProduktundProduktionstechnologien aufeinander treffen. Insbesondere bei sicherheitskritischen, mechatronischen Funktionen,wie z.B. bei Fahrerassistenzsystemen, kommen bei der Inbetriebnahme im sogenannten Bandende neue Anforderungenhinzu. Denn nur sichere Fahrzeuge dürfen die Produktion verlassen und auf die Straße geschickt werden. Die Inbetriebnahmeder neuen Funktionen im Zusammenspiel zwischen Mechanik, Elektronik und Informatik führt jedoch zu steigendenAufwänden, die in langen Prozesszeiten, parallelisierten Prozessen und hohen Investitionskosten für Messmittelresultieren. Um die Aufwände im End-of-Line zu reduzieren, wird eine Vorverlagerung der Inbetriebnahme in die Montagelinieoder zum Zulieferer angestrebt. Dafür werden einerseits neue Prozesstechnologien, andererseits neue Methodenzur Absicherung der Inbetriebnahmekonzepte benötigt. These trends also have an impact on automotive final assembly, where new product and production technologiesmeet. Particularly in the case of safety-critical mechatronic functions, such as driver assistance systems, new requirementsare being added to the end-of-line commissioning. Only safe vehicles may leave production and be sent ontothe road. The commissioning of the new functions in the interaction between mechanics, electronics and informationtechnology, leads to increased expenditure, which results in long process times, parallel processes and high investmentcosts for measuring equipment. In order to reduce the end-of-line effort, the aim is to move commissioning to the assemblyline or to the supplier. The commissioning of individual modulesto form a complete system is often time consuming and complex. Therefore, simple and accurate calibration methodsare needed to take the advantage of the sensors in the process. The calibration of 3D-sensors has already been studiedby several scientists. If objects in 3D-space or calibration targets must be measured using 2D-sensors such as laser linesensors, then the determination of additional boundary conditions is necessary. The kinematic problem of robot sensorcalibration leads to a homogeneous transformation equation of the form AX = XB, where A, X and B are 44 homogeneousmatrices. Industrial partners are involved in all subprojects. The authors are unaware of similar seamless learning projects using a DBR approach that include evaluation and redesign and allow for comparison of experiences by applying DBR across subprojects. The project aims to generate novel seamless learning implementations, respective novel research and novel software supporting different aspects of seamless learning. The poster will present the project design, delineate areas of research and development, and include initial empirical results.

Phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P2] is essential for exocytosis. Classical ways of manipulating PI(4,5)P2 levels are slower than metabolism, making it difficult to distinguish effects of PI(4,5)P2 from those of its metabolites. We developed a membrane-permeant, photoactivatable PI(4,5)P2, which is loaded into cells in an inactive form and activated by light, allowing sub-second increases in PI(4,5)P2 levels. By combining this compound with electrophysiological measurements in mouse adrenal chromaffin cells, we show that PI(4,5)P2 uncaging potentiates exocytosis and identify synaptotagmin-1 (the Ca(2+) sensor for exocytosis) and Munc13-2 (a vesicle priming protein) as the relevant effector proteins. PI(4,5)P2 activation of exocytosis did not depend on the PI(4,5)P2-binding CAPS-proteins, suggesting that PI(4,5)P2 uncaging bypasses CAPS-function. Finally, PI(4,5)P2 uncaging triggered the rapid fusion of a subset of readily-releasable vesicles, revealing a rapid role of PI(4,5)P2 in fusion triggering. Thus, optical uncaging of signaling lipids can uncover their rapid effects on cellular processes and identify lipid effectors.

This paper describes the so-called CORE Simulation Environment (CORE-SE), a scenario based simulation environment which was developed in the scope of the EU project CORE. CORE-SE in particular provides means for the simulation of logistics scenarios. It consists of a software agent platform that facilitates a multiagent-based simulation (MABS) approach. In MABS, the environment and the objects acting therein are modelled by a number of software agents. CORE-SE provides a platform to create and configure different simulation scenarios and finally “run” them by the emulation of the agents’ behaviours in a coordinated and controlled way. CORE-SE, as described in this paper, has been applied in a specific supply chain sce-nario related to product integrity due to cargo temperature requirements where higher temperature (and solar radiation) could result in fluctuating product integrity in terms of quality loss and damage. During the simulated transport, climatic and weather-related factors like ambient temperature, ground temperature, solar radiation, and wind speed together with the resulting effects on the inner container temperature are simulated and respectively calculated according to the actual transport route of the container by usage of a climatic data model. The paper presents first results of the analysis, which are used to optimize the temperature control of the cargo, thereby better taking into account the mentioned external factors.

Grafting of cell-seeded alginate capillary hydrogels into a spinal cord lesion site provides an axonal bridge while physically directing regenerating axonal growth in a linear pattern. However, without an additional growth stimulus, bridging axons fail to extend into the distal host spinal cord. Here we examined whether a combinatory strategy would support regeneration of descending axons across a cervical (C5) lateral hemisection lesion in the rat spinal cord. Following spinal cord transections, Schwann cell (SC)-seeded alginate hydrogels were grafted to the lesion site and AAV5 expressing brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) under control of a tetracycline-regulated promoter was injected caudally. In addition, we examined whether SC injection into the caudal spinal parenchyma would further enhance regeneration of descending axons to re-enter the host spinal cord. Our data show that both serotonergic and descending axons traced by biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) extend throughout the scaffolds. The number of regenerating axons is significantly increased when caudal BDNF expression is activated and transient BDNF delivery is able to sustain axons after gene expression is switched off. Descending axons are confined to the caudal graft/host interface even with continuous BDNF expression for 8 weeks. Only with a caudal injection of SCs, a pathway facilitating axonal regeneration through the host/graft interface is generated allowing axons to successfully re-enter the caudal spinal cord. Statement of Significance Recovery from spinal cord injury is poor due to the limited regeneration observed in the adult mammalian central nervous system.
