This article explores the role that technology plays in creating and fostering transparency in global supply chains. Transparency is deemed vital in the creation of sustainable and resilient supply chains and overall effective corporate governance. There are two distinct orientations toward the use of technology by multinational corporations (MNCs) in creating sustainability transparency within their global supply chains: control and relational. A control orientation views technology as a tool to gather the ever-increasing levels of sustainability data on supplier practices in an efficient, secure, and progressively automated manner. A relational orientation adopts a view where technology is a tool to help build social relations and improve dialogue and collaboration on sustainability throughout the supply chain. A key difference in the two orientations lies in the mindset of the MNC manager toward the development of supply chain sustainability transparency. The article illustrates the effective application of both approaches and offers advice to managers on the design choices they need to consider in choosing technologies.

In a recent paper [D. Philipp, V. Perlick, D. Puetzfeld, E. Hackmann, and C. L\"ammerzahl, Phys. Rev. D 95, 104037 (2017)], a definition of a general-relativistic geoid, restricted to stationary spacetimes, was presented in terms of "isochronometric surfaces". In this note, we explicate how this definition is just a special, highly restrictive case of our earlier formulation of the general-relativistic geoid using quasilocal frames, which is valid for generic, non-stationary spacetimes [M. Oltean, R.J. Epp, P.L. McGrath, and R.B. Mann, Class. Quantum Grav. 33, 105001 (2016)]. Moreover, like the isochronometric surface geoid, we show how our "geoid quasilocal frame" (GQF) can also be defined, simply and operationally, in terms of redshift measurements., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure

We develop, in the context of general relativity, the notion of a geoid -- a surface of constant "gravitational potential". In particular, we show how this idea naturally emerges as a specific choice of a previously proposed, more general and operationally useful construction called a quasilocal frame -- that is, a choice of a two-parameter family of timelike worldlines comprising the worldtube boundary of the history of a finite spatial volume. We study the geometric properties of these geoid quasilocal frames, and construct solutions for them in some simple spacetimes. We then compare these results -- focusing on the computationally tractable scenario of a non-rotating body with a quadrupole perturbation -- against their counterparts in Newtonian gravity (the setting for current applications of the geoid), and we compute general-relativistic corrections to some measurable geometric quantities., Comment: 24 pages, 8 figures; v2: reference added; v3: introduction clarified, reference added

We determine the gyromagnetic factor of the positronium ion, a three-body system consisting of two electrons and a positron, including first relativistic corrections. We find that the g-factor is modified by a term -0.51(1)alpha^2, exceeding 15 times the alpha^2 correction for a free electron. We compare this effect with analogous results found previously in atomic positronium and in hydrogen-like ions., Comment: 7 pages

We extend the recent D=5 results of Dias, Horowitz and Santos by finding asymptotically AdS rotating black hole and boson star solutions with scalar hair in arbitrary odd spacetime dimension. Both the black holes and the boson stars are invariant under a single Killing vector field which co-rotates with the scalar field and, in the black hole case, is tangent to the generator of the horizon. Furthermore, we explicitly construct boson star and small black hole ($r_+ \ll \ell$) solutions perturbatively assuming a small amplitude for the scalar field, resulting in solutions valid for low energies and angular momenta. We find that just as in D=5, the angular momentum is primarily carried by the scalar field in $D>5$, whereas unlike D=5 the energy is also primarily carried by the scalar field in $D>5$; the thermodynamics in D=5 are governed by both the black hole and scalar field whereas in $D>5$ they are governed primarily by the scalar field alone. The body of this report consists of seven chapters, each of which describes a principal topic of research into shipboard power quality issues. These topics include: Grounding study for bus connected high impedance grounded generators, the potential of a variable frequency, variable voltage generation system for improved efficiency and pulse loading capability, motor starting capability of fixed frequency inverters, the use of wavelet analysis to detect broken rotor bars in induction motors, motor surge characteristics, the use of wavelet analysis to monitor shipboard power system faults, and the investigation of partial discharge in motor windings. This work provides the framework for improvements in the quality and performance of shipboard power systems.
