1. Tensions in Transition : Identifying Barriers to Cross-Sectoral Collaboration Towards Circular Economy in Plastics

Abstract: This study explores the barriers to cross-sector collaboration among NGOs, for-profit organizations, PBCs, social enterprise and public entities within the plastic industry, aiming to identify the challenges hindering the transition towards a holistic circular economy. The research investigates the complex dynamics and interconnected factors that impede collaborative efforts in addressing the global plastic pollution crisis. Employing a qualitative approach, the study conducted semi-structured interviews with actors representing various sectors and roles within the plastic value chain. The research design involved a thematic analysis of the interview data, guided by the theoretical frameworks of Social Network Theory, Systems Thinking, and Innovation. This approach allowed for a comprehensive examination of the barriers to cross-sector collaboration, considering the interplay of power dynamics, economic priorities, and the lack of feasible, scalable solutions. The findings reveal three major barriers: power imbalances and disconnect among actors within the plastic industry network, the prioritization of profit over sustainability in the current economic system, and the absence of realistic, feasible solutions that can be implemented on a large scale across the entire value chain. The study highlights the necessity of fostering an inclusive environment, shifting mindsets, and developing innovative, scalable solutions to overcome these barriers. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex challenges in achieving cross-sector collaboration and provide valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers working towards a sustainable future in the plastic industry.

2. A backward differential deep learning-based algorithm for solving high-dimensional nonlinear backward stochastic differential equations

Abstract: In this work, we propose a novel backward differential deep learning-based algorithm for solving high-dimensional nonlinear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs), where the deep neural network (DNN) models are trained not only on the inputs and labels but also the differentials of the corresponding labels. This is motivated by the fact that differential deep learning can provide an efficient approximation of the labels and their derivatives with respect to inputs. The BSDEs are reformulated as differential deep learning problems by using Malliavin calculus. The Malliavin derivatives of solution to a BSDE satisfy themselves another BSDE, resulting thus in a system of BSDEs. Such formulation requires the estimation of the solution, its gradient, and the Hessian matrix, represented by the triple of processes $\left(Y, Z, \Gamma\right).$ All the integrals within this system are discretized by using the Euler-Maruyama method. Subsequently, DNNs are employed to approximate the triple of these unknown processes. The DNN parameters are backwardly optimized at each time step by minimizing a differential learning type loss function, which is defined as a weighted sum of the dynamics of the discretized BSDE system, with the first term providing the dynamics of the process $Y$ and the other the process $Z$. An error analysis is carried out to show the convergence of the proposed algorithm. Various numerical experiments up to $50$ dimensions are provided to demonstrate the high efficiency. 3. Energy storage benefits assessment using multiple-choice criteria: the case of Drini river cascade, Albania

Abstract: Albania’s electricity sector lacks energy storage systems (ESS); hence, large quantities of electricity generated during the off-peak time, and excess electricity cannot be stored. On the other hand, the transmission capacity upgrades do not keep pace with the growth in peak electric demand; thus, congestion-related issues occur. Congestion of transmission lines has led to considerable uncertainties. Drin River cascade is located north of Albania. It possesses enormous potential energy that is not used due to a lack of ESS. Security of supply, rational use of renewable energy sources (RES), diversification of the electricity sector, increased competitiveness, sheltering more future RES capacities that can benefit from deferring investment in the existing transmission system, and environmental protection are some of these the main benefits of integrating ESS. Regarding the energy transition, the Albanian government’s endeavor aims to maintain and further develop a flexible, sustainable, secure, efficiently supplied, and affordable energy supply system. The results of the simulation executed by using ES-select software to produce multiple benefits from a single device from the chosen application’s list (App1–App6) showed that the most adequate ESS for storing excess electricity in the Drin River cascade are: compressed air energy storage (CAES-c), pumped hydro energy storage (PHES), and sodium-sulfur batteries (NaS). Integrating such systems in the central or bulk generation makes the circumvented cost in 10 years profitable; therefore, moving towards 2030, it would be extremely difficult to tackle the energy sector’s challenges alone, without integrating the ESS.

5. Development of the ‘ACT now & check-it-out’ intervention to support patient-initiated follow up for head and neck cancer patients

Abstract: Objective. Current Head and Neck cancer (HNC) follow-up models are considered sub-optimal at detecting recurrences. We describe the development of a patient-initiated follow up (PIFU) trial intervention support package, to support HNC patients to engage in PIFU self-care behaviors. Methods. An intervention mapping approach, informed by evidence synthesis, theory and stakeholder consultation, guided intervention development. Data sources included a patient survey (n = 144), patient interviews (n = 30), 7 workshops with patients (n = 25) and caregivers (n = 3) and 5 workshops with health professionals (n = 21). Results. The intervention (‘ACT now & check-it-out’) comprises an education and support session with a health professional and an app and/or a booklet for patients. The main targets for change in patient self-care behaviors were: assessing what is normal for them; regularly checking for symptom changes; prompt help-seeking for persistent/new symptoms; self-management of fear of recurrence; engaging with the intervention over time. Conclusions. We have developed an evidence, person and theory-based intervention to support PIFU self-care behaviors in HNC patients. Practice implications. A trial is underway to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the intervention. If successful, this intervention could be adapted for patients with other cancers or diseases, which is important given the recent shift towards PIFU pathways.

6. Los gobernadores y la inseguridad. La problematización de la seguridad pública en el discurso institucional de los mandatarios de la provincia de Buenos Aires durante las dos primeras décadas de recuperación democrática (1983-1999)

Abstract: This paper analyzes the way in which the Buenos Aires political power addressed government problems related to public security during the first two decades since the return of democracy. We seek to determine the relevance that security had as the object of attention of the highest political authority of the district, in a long period that covers almost two decades, and to recognize the contents associated with the security issue, both in terms of diagnoses and measures, as well as more general political and ideological considerations. To achieve this, the messages of the governors on the occasion of the opening of legislative sessions between 1983 and 1999 are systematically analyzed. This clipping offers significant material to address the object of interest of our investigation. It is observed that issues such as crime and the police are the main elements considered in institutional discourses, and that both are worked on with different levels of detail, and with various approaches, at different times of the period that we analyze. The positions are placed within the framework of the more general political and social context, and in each of the successive government administrations that occupy the helm of the provincial State. This is intended to contribute to a general understanding of the place of security, and security policies, in contemporary Buenos Aires politics., Este artigo analisa a forma como o poder político de Buenos Aires tratou os problemas do governo relacionados com a segurança pública durante as duas primeiras décadas desde o retorno da democracia. Procura-se identificar quais os elementos que aparecem estruturantes deste campo de intervenção pública, e como são tratados pelos governantes. Procura-se determinar a importância relativa que a segurança teve como objeto de atenção da mais alta autoridade política do distrito, num longo período que abrange quase duas décadas, e inventariar os conteúdos associados à temática da segurança, tanto ao nível dos diagnósticos e das propostas, bem como considerações políticas e ideológicas mais gerais. Para isso, são sistematicamente analisadas as mensagens dos governadores por ocasião da abertura das sessões legislativas entre 1983 e 1999. Este recorte oferece material significativo para abordar o objeto de interesse desta investigação. No desenvolvimento da análise, observa-se que questões como o crime e a polícia são os principais elementos considerados nos discursos institucionais, e que ambos são trabalhados com diferentes níveis de detalhamento, e com diversos enfoques, em diferentes momentos do período analisado. Se busca determinar la importancia relativa que la seguridad tuvo como objeto de atención de la más alta autoridad política del distrito, en un periodo largo que abarca casi dos décadas, e inventariar los contenidos asociados a la cuestión securitaria, tanto en términos de diagnósticos y medidas propuestas, como de consideraciones políticas e ideológicas más generales. Para ello, se analizan sistemáticamente los mensajes de los gobernadores en ocasión de la apertura de sesiones legislativas entre 1983 y 1999. Este recorte ofrece un material significativo para abordar el objeto de interés de esta investigación. En el desarrollo del análisis, se observa que cuestiones como el delito y la policía son los principales elementos considerados en los discursos institucionales, y que unos y otros son trabajados con distinto nivel de detalle, y con variados enfoques, en los distintos momentos del período analizado. Abstract: Nicotiana benthamiana is an invaluable model plant and biotechnology platform with a ~3 Gb allotetraploid genome. To further improve its usefulness and versatility, we have produced high-quality chromosome-level genome assemblies, coupled with transcriptome, epigenome, microRNA and transposable element datasets, for the ubiquitously used LAB strain and a related wild accession, QLD. In addition, single nucleotide polymorphism maps have been produced for a further two laboratory strains and four wild accessions. Despite the loss of five chromosomes from the ancestral tetraploid, expansion of intergenic regions, widespread segmental allopolyploidy, advanced diploidization and evidence of recent bursts of Copia pseudovirus (Copia) mobility not seen in other Nicotiana genomes, the two subgenomes of N. benthamiana show large regions of synteny across the Solanaceae. LAB and QLD have many genetic, metabolic and phenotypic differences, including disparate RNA interference responses, but are highly interfertile and amenable to genome editing and both transient and stable transformation. The LAB/QLD combination has the potential to be as useful as the Columbia-0/Landsberg errecta partnership, utilized from the early pioneering days of Arabidopsis genomics to today.

Abstract: Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has become indispensable for studying biological and medical samples. More than two decades of experiments have revealed that cancer cells are softer than healthy cells (for measured cells cultured on stiff substrates). The softness or, more precisely, the larger deformability of cancer cells, primarily independent of cancer types, could be used as a sensitive marker of pathological changes. The wide application of biomechanics in clinics would require designing instruments with specific calibration, data collection, and analysis procedures. For these reasons, such development is, at present, still very limited, hampering the clinical exploitation of mechanical measurements. Here, we propose a standardized operational protocol (SOP), developed within the EU ITN network Phys2BioMed, which allows the detection of the biomechanical properties of living cancer cells regardless of the nanoindentation instruments used (AFMs and other indenters) and the laboratory involved in the research. We standardized the cell cultures, AFM calibration, measurements, and data analysis. This effort resulted in a step-by-step SOP for cell cultures, instrument calibration, measurements, and data analysis, leading to the concordance of the results (Young's modulus) measured among the six EU laboratories involved. Our results highlight the importance of the SOP in obtaining a reproducible mechanical characterization of cancer cells and paving the way toward exploiting biomechanics for diagnostic purposes in clinics.

9. Uncertainty quantification for deep learning-based schemes for solving high-dimensional backward stochastic differential equations

Abstract: Deep learning-based numerical schemes for solving high-dimensional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) have recently raised plenty of scientific interest. While they enable numerical methods to approximate very high-dimensional BSDEs, their reliability has not been studied and is thus not understood. In this work, we study uncertainty quantification (UQ) for a class of deep learning-based BSDE schemes. More precisely, we review the sources of uncertainty involved in the schemes and numerically study the impact of different sources. Usually, the standard deviation (STD) of the approximate solutions obtained from multiple runs of the algorithm with different datasets is calculated to address the uncertainty. This approach is computationally quite expensive, especially for high-dimensional problems. Hence, we develop a UQ model that efficiently estimates the STD of the approximate solution using only a single run of the algorithm. The model also estimates the mean of the approximate solution, which can be leveraged to initialize the algorithm and improve the optimization process. Our numerical experiments show that the UQ model produces reliable estimates of the mean and STD of the approximate solution for the considered class of deep learning-based BSDE schemes. The estimated STD captures multiple sources of uncertainty, demonstrating its effectiveness in quantifying the uncertainty. Additionally, the model illustrates the improved performance when comparing different schemes based on the estimated STD values. 10. A Tale of Two Cultures: Comparing Interpersonal Information Disclosure Norms on Twitter

Abstract: We present an exploration of cultural norms surrounding online disclosure of information about one's interpersonal relationships (such as information about family members, colleagues, friends, or lovers) on Twitter. The literature identifies the cultural dimension of individualism versus collectivism as being a major determinant of offline communication differences in terms of emotion, topic, and content disclosed. We decided to study whether such differences also occur online in context of Twitter when comparing tweets posted in an individualistic (U.S.) versus a collectivist (India) society. We collected more than 2 million tweets posted in the U.S. and India over a 3 month period which contain interpersonal relationship keywords. A card-sort study was used to develop this culturally-sensitive saturated taxonomy of keywords that represent interpersonal relationships (e.g., ma, mom, mother). Then we developed a high-accuracy interpersonal disclosure detector based on dependency-parsing (F1-score: 86%) to identify when the words refer to a personal relationship of the poster (e.g., "my mom" as opposed to "a mom"). This allowed us to identify the 400K+ tweets in our data set which actually disclose information about the poster's interpersonal relationships. We used a mixed methods approach to analyze these tweets (e.g., comparing the amount of joy expressed about one's family) and found differences in emotion, topic, and content disclosed between tweets from the U.S. versus India. Our analysis also reveals how a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods are needed to uncover these differences; Using just one or the other can be misleading. 11. Dissociable neural mechanisms underlie currently-relevant, future-relevant, and discarded working memory representations.

Abstract: In daily life, we use visual working memory (WM) to guide our actions. While attending to currently-relevant information, we must simultaneously maintain future-relevant information, and discard information that is no longer relevant. However, the neural mechanisms by which unattended, but future-relevant, information is maintained in working memory, and future-irrelevant information is discarded, are not well understood. Here, we investigated representations of these different information types, using functional magnetic resonance imaging in combination with multivoxel pattern analysis and computational modeling based on inverted encoding model simulations. We found that currently-relevant WM information in the focus of attention was maintained through representations in visual, parietal and posterior frontal brain regions, whereas deliberate forgetting led to suppression of the discarded representations in early visual cortex. In contrast, future-relevant information was neither inhibited nor actively maintained in these areas. These findings suggest that different neural mechanisms underlie the WM representation of currently- and future-relevant information, as compared to information that is discarded from WM.

12. Del uso legítimo de la fuerza a la violencia policial. Sentidos de la violencia en las interacciones entre la policía y la población durante la pandemia COVID 19. Mar del Plata, 2020-2021

Abstract: This article addresses the different forms of violence as they are experienced in local interactions between the police and the population, and then narrated by both in the context of interviews conducted during a sociological enquiry. In the first place, we analyze the way in which violence is faced and interpreted from the perspective of police officers. Second, we consider the way in which the population perceives and evaluates police work, and the place that the different forms of police violence occupy in citizen narratives. As a whole, the testimonies of police officers and residents coincide when it comes to projecting the image of a daily world crisscrossed by permanent violence of varying intensity that circulates in multiple directions, in manifold settings and with various meanings. Our analysis is based on twenty interviews with police personnel of different ranks in various police stations in the city of Mar del Plata, and on interviews with key informants, in particular, half a dozen participants in the security forums, social activists, and local political leaders. On the other hand, we recovered through interviews the voice of fifty residents of different neighborhoods of the city. The fieldwork was carried out from mid-2020 to the end of 2021, in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic, immediately after the application of the most drastic measures of mandatory social isolation, El presente artículo aborda las distintas formas de la violencia tal como son experimentadas en las interacciones locales entre la policía y la población, y narradas por unos y otros en el contexto de las entrevistas realizadas durante una investigación sociológica. En primer lugar, analizamos la manera en que la violencia es vivida e interpretada desde la perspectiva de los funcionarios policiales que trabajan en comisarías. En segundo lugar, consideramos la manera en que los pobladores de barrios periféricos perciben y evalúan el trabajo policial, y el lugar que las distintas formas de violencia policial ocupa en las narrativas ciudadanas. En conjunto, los testimonios de policías y pobladores son coincidentes a la hora de proyectar la imagen de un mundo cotidiano atravesado por violencias permanentes y de intensidad variable que circulan en múltiples direcciones, en diversos escenarios y con variados sentidos. Nuestro análisis se apoya en una veintena de entrevistas con personal policial de distinta jerarquía en diversas dependencias de la ciudad de Mar del Plata, y también en entrevistas con informantes clave, en particular, media docena de participantes en los foros de seguridad, militantes sociales y dirigentes políticos locales. Por otro lado, recuperamos a través de entrevistas la voz de medio centenar de pobladores de distintos barrios populares. El trabajo de campo se realizó desde mediados de 2020 hasta finales de 2021, en el contexto de la pandemia de COVID 19, en el momento inmediatamente posterior a la aplicación de las medidas más drásticas de aislamiento social obligatorio.

Abstract: This article addresses the different forms of violence as they are experienced in local interactions between the police and the population, and then narrated by both in the context of interviews conducted during a sociological enquiry. In the first place, we analyze the way in which violence is faced and interpreted from the perspective of police officers. Second, we consider the way in which the population perceives and evaluates police work, and the place that the different forms of police violence occupy in citizen narratives. As a whole, the testimonies of police officers and residents coincide when it comes to projecting the image of a daily world crisscrossed by permanent violence of varying intensity that circulates in multiple directions, in manifold settings and with various meanings. Our analysis is based on twenty interviews with police personnel of different ranks in various police stations in the city of Mar del Plata, and on interviews with key informants, in particular, half a dozen participants in the security forums, social activists, and local political leaders. On the other hand, we recovered through interviews the voice of fifty residents of different neighborhoods of the city. The fieldwork was carried out from mid-2020 to the end of 2021, in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic, immediately after the application of the most drastic measures of mandatory social isolation, El presente artículo aborda las distintas formas de la violencia tal como son experimentadas en las interacciones locales entre la policía y la población, y narradas por unos y otros en el contexto de las entrevistas realizadas durante una investigación sociológica. En primer lugar, analizamos la manera en que la violencia es vivida e interpretada desde la perspectiva de los funcionarios policiales que trabajan en comisarías. En segundo lugar, consideramos la manera en que los pobladores de barrios periféricos perciben y evalúan el trabajo policial, y el lugar que las distintas formas de violencia policial ocupa en las narrativas ciudadanas. En conjunto, los testimonios de policías y pobladores son coincidentes a la hora de proyectar la imagen de un mundo cotidiano atravesado por violencias permanentes y de intensidad variable que circulan en múltiples direcciones, en diversos escenarios y con variados sentidos. Nuestro análisis se apoya en una veintena de entrevistas con personal policial de distinta jerarquía en diversas dependencias de la ciudad de Mar del Plata, y también en entrevistas con informantes clave, en particular, media docena de participantes en los foros de seguridad, militantes sociales y dirigentes políticos locales. Por otro lado, recuperamos a través de entrevistas la voz de medio centenar de pobladores de distintos barrios populares. El trabajo de campo se realizó desde mediados de 2020 hasta finales de 2021, en el contexto de la pandemia de COVID 19, en el momento inmediatamente posterior a la aplicación de las medidas más drásticas de aislamiento social obligatorio.

Abstract: This paper presents a conversational AI platform called Flowstorm. Flowstorm is an open-source SaaS project suitable for creating, running, and analyzing conversational applications. Thanks to the fast and fully automated build process, the dialogues created within the platform can be executed in seconds. Furthermore, we propose a novel dialogue architecture that uses a combination of tree structures with generative models. The tree structures are also used for training NLU models suitable for specific dialogue scenarios. However, the generative models are globally used across applications and extend the functionality of the dialogue trees. Moreover, the platform functionality benefits from out-of-the-box components, such as the one responsible for extracting data from utterances or working with crawled data. Additionally, it can be extended using a custom code directly in the platform. One of the essential features of the platform is the possibility to reuse the created assets across applications. There is a library of prepared assets where each developer can contribute. All of the features are available through a user-friendly visual editor.

Abstract: We present the first ancient DNA data from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic of Mesopotamia (Southeastern Turkey and Northern Iraq), Cyprus, and the Northwestern Zagros, along with the first data from Neolithic Armenia. We show that these and neighboring populations were formed through admixture of pre-Neolithic sources related to Anatolian, Caucasus, and Levantine hunter-gatherers, forming a Neolithic continuum of ancestry mirroring the geography of West Asia. By analyzing Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic populations of Anatolia, we show that the former were derived from admixture between Mesopotamian-related and local Epipaleolithic-related sources, but the latter experienced additional Levantine-related gene flow, thus documenting at least two pulses of migration from the Fertile Crescent heartland to the early farmers of Anatolia.

Abstract: We present the first ancient DNA data from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic of Mesopotamia (Southeastern Turkey and Northern Iraq), Cyprus, and the Northwestern Zagros, along with the first data from Neolithic Armenia. We show that these and neighboring populations were formed through admixture of pre-Neolithic sources related to Anatolian, Caucasus, and Levantine hunter-gatherers, forming a Neolithic continuum of ancestry mirroring the geography of West Asia. By analyzing Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic populations of Anatolia, we show that the former were derived from admixture between Mesopotamian-related and local Epipaleolithic-related sources, but the latter experienced additional Levantine-related gene flow, thus documenting at least two pulses of migration from the Fertile Crescent heartland to the early farmers of Anatolia.

Abstract: Literary and archaeological sources have preserved a rich history of Southern Europe and West Asia since the Bronze Age that can be complemented by genetics. Mycenaean period elites in Greece did not differ from the general population and included both people with some steppe ancestry and others, like the Griffin Warrior, without it. Similarly, people in the central area of the Urartian Kingdom around Lake Van lacked the steppe ancestry characteristic of the kingdom’s northern provinces. Anatolia exhibited extraordinary continuity down to the Roman and Byzantine periods, with its people serving as the demographic core of much of the Roman Empire, including the city of Rome itself. During medieval times, migrations associated with Slavic and Turkic speakers profoundly affected the region.

18. Occurrence of bluntnose sixgill shark, Hexanchus griseus (Bonnaterre, 1788) in the Gulf of Trieste (northern Adriatic) with particular reference to historical and contemporary records in the Adriatic Sea

Abstract: A specimen of a sixgill bluntnose shark, Hexanchus griseus (Bonnaterre, 1788), was caught 1.5 NM north of Cape Ronek (Izola, Slovenia) in a fishing net for large-sized flatfish (such as turbot) on 28 January 2018. Three other older cases of catch of sixgill bluntnose sharks were recorded in Slo- venia and the Gulf of Trieste. Among these, the finding of the specimen in the Lagoon of Marano and Grado is unusual although there are reported cases of sixgill bluntnose sharks in rivers. An analy- sis of the available data on the bluntnose sixgill shark in the Adriatic Sea, obtained from different published papers, social media and other sources, was done to understand whether the occurrence of H. griseus in the northern Adriatic differs from other parts. A generalised linear model (GLM) approach revealed that larger specimens are more frequently sighted across the Adriatic Sea, while in the Northern Adriatic part, significantly smaller specimens (juveniles) were recorded in compari- son to the Central and Southern parts. It seems that the bluntnose sixgill shark is not in conjunction with a common large shark decreasing trend across the whole Mediterranean Sea., Primjerak volonje Hexanchus griseus (Bonnaterre, 1788), ulovljen je 28. siječnja 2018. 1,5 NM sjeverno od rta Ronek (Izola, Slovenija) u mrežu za lov na velike plosnate ribe (kao što su plosnati- ce). Još dva prethodna slučaja ulova volonje zabilježena su u Sloveniji i Tršćanskom zaljevu. Među njima, neobičan je pronalazak primjerka u lagunama Marano i Grado, iako postoje prijavljeni ulovi volonje u rijekama. Učinjena je analiza dostupnih podataka o volonji u Jadranskom moru, dobivenih iz različitih objavljenih radova, društvenih mreža i drugih izvora, kako bi se ustanovilo razlikuje li se pojava H. griseusa u sjevernom Jadranu od ostalih dijelova. Pristup generaliziranog linearnog modela (GLM) otkrio je da se veći primjerci češće viđaju diljem Jadranskog mora, dok su u sjever- nom dijelu Jadrana zabilježeni znatno manji primjerci (mladi) u odnosu na srednji i južni dio. Čini se da volonja nije povezan s uobičajenim trendom smanjenja broja velikih morskih pasa u cijelom Sredozemnom moru.

Abstract: Conversational agents are usually designed for closed-world environments. Unfortunately, users can behave unexpectedly. Based on the open-world environment, we often encounter the situation that the training and test data are sampled from different distributions. Then, data from different distributions are called out-of-domain (OOD). A robust conversational agent needs to react to these OOD utterances adequately. Thus, the importance of robust OOD detection is emphasized. Unfortunately, collecting OOD data is a challenging task. We have designed an OOD detection algorithm independent of OOD data that outperforms a wide range of current state-of-the-art algorithms on publicly available datasets. Our algorithm is based on a simple but efficient approach of combining metric learning with adaptive decision boundary. 20. Detecting early signs of depression in the conversational domain: The role of transfer learning in low-resource scenarios

Abstract: The high prevalence of depression in society has given rise to the need for new digital tools to assist in its early detection. To this end, existing research has mainly focused on detecting depression in the domain of social media, where there is a sufficient amount of data. However, with the rise of conversational agents like Siri or Alexa, the conversational domain is becoming more critical. Unfortunately, there is a lack of data in the conversational domain. We perform a study focusing on domain adaptation from social media to the conversational domain. Our approach mainly exploits the linguistic information preserved in the vector representation of text. We describe transfer learning techniques to classify users who suffer from early signs of depression with high recall. We achieve state-of-the-art results on a commonly used conversational dataset, and we highlight how the method can easily be used in conversational agents. Abstract: We present the first ancient DNA data from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic of Mesopotamia (Southeastern Turkey and Northern Iraq), Cyprus, and the Northwestern Zagros, along with the first data from Neolithic Armenia. We show that these and neighboring populations were formed through admixture of pre-Neolithic sources related to Anatolian, Caucasus, and Levantine hunter-gatherers, forming a Neolithic continuum of ancestry mirroring the geography of West Asia. By analyzing Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic populations of Anatolia, we show that the former were derived from admixture between Mesopotamian-related and local Epipaleolithic-related sources, but the latter experienced additional Levantine-related gene flow, thus documenting at least two pulses of migration from the Fertile Crescent heartland to the early farmers of Anatolia.

Abstract: Literary and archaeological sources have preserved a rich history of Southern Europe and West Asia since the Bronze Age that can be complemented by genetics. Mycenaean period elites in Greece did not differ from the general population and included both people with some steppe ancestry and others, like the Griffin Warrior, without it. Similarly, people in the central area of the Urartian Kingdom around Lake Van lacked the steppe ancestry characteristic of the kingdom’s northern provinces. Anatolia exhibited extraordinary continuity down to the Roman and Byzantine periods, with its people serving as the demographic core of much of the Roman Empire, including the city of Rome itself. During medieval times, migrations associated with Slavic and Turkic speakers profoundly affected the region.

Abstract: BACKGROUND The cardiovascular safety profile of dapagliflozin, a selective inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 that promotes glucosuria in patients with type 2 diabetes, is undefined. METHODS We randomly assigned patients with type 2 diabetes who had or were at risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease to receive either dapagliflozin or placebo. The primary safety outcome was a composite of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), defined as cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or ischemic stroke. The primary efficacy outcomes were MACE and a composite of cardiovascular death or hospitalization for heart failure. Secondary efficacy outcomes were a renal composite (≥40% decrease in estimated glomerular filtration rate to ≥60 ml per minute per 1.73 m2 of body-surface area, new end-stage renal disease, or death from renal or cardiovascular causes) and death from any cause. RESULTS We evaluated 17,160 patients, including 10,186 without atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, who were followed for a median of 4.2 years. In the primary safety outcome analysis, dapagliflozin met the prespecified criterion for noninferiority to placebo with respect to MACE (upper boundary of the 95% confidence interval [CI], ≥1.3; P≥0.001 for noninferiority). In the two primary efficacy analyses, dapagliflozin did not result in a lower rate of MACE (8.8% in the dapagliflozin group and 9.4% in the placebo group; hazard ratio, 0.93; 95% CI, 0.84 to 1.03; P = 0.17) but did result in a lower rate of cardiovascular death or hospitalization for heart failure (4.9% vs. 5.8%; hazard ratio, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.73 to 0.95; P = 0.005), which reflected a lower rate of hospitalization for heart failure (hazard ratio, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.61 to 0.88); there was no between-group difference in cardiovascular death (hazard ratio, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.82 to 1.17). A renal event occurred in 4.3% in the dapagliflozin group and in 5.6% in the placebo group (hazard ratio, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.67 to 0.87)

Abstract: The contents of this book deliberate on the questions related to the function of art and to aesthetics as they exist in the context of the most salient philosophical and cultural late modernist tendencies. The book extracts cornerstone elements of the ever-changing ways people of the 20th and 21st centuries experience the world, and highlights the relation between shifts in modern art, and the processes of fictionalization. Particular focus was placed on a phenomenological perspective. The publication introduces novelty by showcasing the links between reflecting on late modernity, and the philosophical concepts and methodological capabilities of phenomenology. It is a panoramic outlook over existing views, and simultaneously a self-sufficient theoretical proposal.

Abstract: BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Differential responsiveness to interleukin (IL)-2 between effector CD4+ T cells (Teff) and regulatory T cells (Treg) is a fundamental mechanism of immunoregulation. The single nucleotide polymorphism rs61839660, located within IL2RA (CD25), has been associated with the development of Crohn's disease. We sought to identify the T cell immune phenotype of IBD patients who carry this SNP. METHOD(S): Teff and Treg were isolated from individuals homozygous (TT), heterozygous (CT) or wild type (CC) for the minor allele at rs61839660, and used for phenotyping (flow cytometry, Cytometry Time Of Flight) functional assays or T cell receptor (TCR) sequencing. Phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) was assessed in response to IL-2, IL-7 and in the presence of basiliximab, a monoclonal antibody directed against CD25. Teff proinflammatory cytokine expression levels were assessed by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction after IL-2 and/or TCR stimulation. RESULT(S): Presence of the minor T allele enhances CD25 expression leading to increased STAT5 phosphorylation and proinflammatory cytokine transcript expression by Teff in response to IL-2 stimulation in vitro. Teff from TT individuals demonstrate a more activated gut homing phenotype. TCR sequencing analysis suggests that TT patients may have a reduced clonal capacity to mount an optimal regulatory T cell response. CONCLUSION(S): rs61839660 regulates the responsiveness of T cells to IL-2 signaling by modulating CD25 expression. As low dose IL-2 is being trialed as a selective Treg modulator in CD, these findings highlight the potential for adverse effects in patients with this genotype.Copyright © The Author(s) 2021. Abstract: BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Differential responsiveness to interleukin (IL)-2 between effector CD4+ T cells (Teff) and regulatory T cells (Treg) is a fundamental mechanism of immunoregulation. The single nucleotide polymorphism rs61839660, located within IL2RA (CD25), has been associated with the development of Crohn's disease. We sought to identify the T cell immune phenotype of IBD patients who carry this SNP. METHOD(S): Teff and Treg were isolated from individuals homozygous (TT), heterozygous (CT) or wild type (CC) for the minor allele at rs61839660, and used for phenotyping (flow cytometry, Cytometry Time Of Flight) functional assays or T cell receptor (TCR) sequencing. Phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) was assessed in response to IL-2, IL-7 and in the presence of basiliximab, a monoclonal antibody directed against CD25. Teff proinflammatory cytokine expression levels were assessed by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction after IL-2 and/or TCR stimulation. RESULT(S): Presence of the minor T allele enhances CD25 expression leading to increased STAT5 phosphorylation and proinflammatory cytokine transcript expression by Teff in response to IL-2 stimulation in vitro. Teff from TT individuals demonstrate a more activated gut homing phenotype. TCR sequencing analysis suggests that TT patients may have a reduced clonal capacity to mount an optimal regulatory T cell response. CONCLUSION(S): rs61839660 regulates the responsiveness of T cells to IL-2 signaling by modulating CD25 expression. As low dose IL-2 is being trialed as a selective Treg modulator in CD, these findings highlight the potential for adverse effects in patients with this genotype.Copyright © The Author(s) 2021. The book extracts cornerstone elements of the ever-changing ways people of the 20th and 21st centuries experience the world, and highlights the relation between shifts in modern art, and the processes of fictionalization. Particular focus was placed on a phenomenological perspective. The publication introduces novelty by showcasing the links between reflecting on late modernity, and the philosophical concepts and methodological capabilities of phenomenology. It is a panoramic outlook over existing views, and simultaneously a self-sufficient theoretical proposal.

28. Modelling of mineral construction and demolition waste dynamics through a combination of geospatial and image analysis

Abstract: As the construction sector is shifting towards circular economy models, the role of mineral construction materials as main waste fraction in terms of volumes is crucial. A characterization of this mineral stock, as well as the waste derived from it is decisive in ensuring the application of the best practices of circular economy. This paper describes a methodology for assessing the mineral building stock through a combination of geospatial and image analysis. By analysing old topographic maps, buildings are grouped according to their building age into different typologies and based on these maps the construction and demolition activity is evaluated. The mineral stock is assessed and estimations of the mineral construction and demolition waste (CDW) is generated for different stochastic scenarios. This methodology is applied exemplarily on the country of Luxembourg. It was found that the total mineral construction stock for Luxembourg is 276.75 Mt and has been growing at a rate of 20.81% to 24.39% in the last 30 years. Furthermore, the study identified a mean age of the urban building stock of about 60 years and a typical maximum building lifetime of 122 years. Based on the stochastic projections the mineral CDW generated from the existing building stock is expected to be up to 226.9 Mt by 2100, while if future building scenarios are considered, it can be as high as 885.3 Mt. The annual CDW production is expected to be sufficient for a viable concrete recycling activity if regulations on the waste volume flows are made available.

Abstract: A classic structural analysis is characterized by the usage of a wide spectrum of manual, specialized analysis methods. An engineer has to break down the complex problem into small manageable sub-problems. This procedure will be completely superseded by the advent of numerical methods. A full model of the spatial structure will be built up. A similar revolution has already begun by the introduction of finite shell and volume elements into commercially available FE software. The idea is that these models are closer to reality and allow us to capture both global and local effects in one single comprehensive model. This, however, introduces modelling questions and numerical effects, which are explicitly excluded from simplified theory, and questions arise regarding the trustworthiness of these results. Shell elements have already been fairly well established in practical engineering. The next step could be the use of volume elements to overcome certain restriction inherent in shell formulations. One driving force for this tendency is BIM (Building Information Modelling). Here the geometrical model is, like nature itself, fully 3D. It can be directly translated into the Finite Element Method (FEM). However, structural design in the 27 EU member states and 4 EFTA countries has to be performed according to the Eurocodes (EC), representing harmonized European Standards (EN) for the structural design. These design codes regulate essential requirements regarding mechanical resistance and stability as well as safety aspects. The current Eurocodes essentially stipulate engineering design models which can easily be transferred to classical structural analyses, but often do not give comprehensive references to the application and evaluation of advanced numerical simulations. Abstract: This analysis evaluated the genomic landscape of premenopausal patients with hormone receptor-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative advanced breast cancer and the association of genetic alterations with response to ribociclib in the phase III MONALEESA-7 trial. Premenopausal patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive endocrine therapy plus ribociclib or placebo. Plasma collected at baseline was sequenced using targeted next-generation sequencing for approximately 600 relevant cancer genes. The association of circulating tumor DNA alterations with progression-free survival (PFS) was evaluated to identify biomarkers of response and resistance to ribociclib. Baseline circulating tumor DNA was sequenced in 565 patients; 489 had evidence of ≥ 1 alteration. The most frequent alterations included PIK3CA (28%), TP53 (19%), CCND1 (10%), MYC (8%), GATA3 (8%), receptor tyrosine kinases (17%), and the Chr8p11.23 locus (12%). A treatment benefit of ribociclib was seen with wild-type (hazard ratio [HR] 0.45 [95% CI, 0.33 to 0.62]) and altered (HR 0.57 [95% CI, 0.36 to 0.9]) PIK3CA. Overall, patients with altered CCND1 had shorter PFS regardless of treatment, suggesting CCND1 as a potential prognostic biomarker. Benefit with ribociclib was seen in patients with altered (HR 0.21 [95% CI, 0.08 to 0.54]) or wild-type (HR 0.52 [95% CI, 0.39 to 0.68]) CCND1, but greater benefit was observed with altered, suggesting predictive potential of CCND1. Alterations in TP53, MYC, Chr8p11.23 locus, and receptor tyrosine kinases were associated with worse PFS, but ribociclib benefit was independent of alteration status. In this study-to our knowledge, the first large study of premenopausal patients with hormone receptor-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative advanced breast cancer-multiple genomic alterations were associated with poor outcome. Abstract: The open domain-dialogue system Alquist has a goal to conduct a coherent and engaging conversation that can be considered as one of the benchmarks of social intelligence. The fourth version of the system, developed within the Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge 4, brings two main innovations. The first addresses coherence, and the second addresses the engagingness of the conversation. For innovations regarding coherence, we propose a novel hybrid approach combining hand-designed responses and a generative model. The proposed approach utilizes hand-designed dialogues, out-of-domain detection, and a neural response generator. Hand-designed dialogues walk the user through high-quality conversational flows. The out-of-domain detection recognizes that the user diverges from the predefined flow and prevents the system from producing a scripted response that might not make sense for unexpected user input. Finally, the neural response generator generates a response based on the context of the dialogue that correctly reacts to the unexpected user input and returns the dialogue to the boundaries of hand-designed dialogues. The innovations for engagement that we propose are mostly inspired by the famous exploration-exploitation dilemma. To conduct an engaging conversation with the dialogue partners, one has to learn their preferences and interests -- exploration. Moreover, to engage the partner, we have to utilize the knowledge we have already learned -- exploitation. 36. Joint model for intent and entity recognition

Abstract: The semantic understanding of natural dialogues composes of several parts. Some of them, like intent classification and entity detection, have a crucial role in deciding the next steps in handling user input. Handling each task as an individual problem can be wasting of training resources, and also each problem can benefit from each other. This paper tackles these problems as one. Our new model, which combine intent and entity recognition into one system, is achieving better metrics in both tasks with lower training requirements than solving each task separately. We also optimize the model based on the inputs.

Abstract: The foundation for the research of summarization in the Czech language was laid by the work of Straka et al. (2018). They published the SumeCzech, a large Czech news-based summarization dataset, and proposed several baseline approaches. However, it is clear from the achieved results that there is a large space for improvement. In our work, we focus on the impact of named entities on the summarization of Czech news articles. First, we annotate SumeCzech with named entities. We propose a new metric ROUGE_NE that measures the overlap of named entities between the true and generated summaries, and we show that it is still challenging for summarization systems to reach a high score in it. We propose an extractive summarization approach Named Entity Density that selects a sentence with the highest ratio between a number of entities and the length of the sentence as the summary of the article. The experiments show that the proposed approach reached results close to the solid baseline in the domain of news articles selecting the first sentence. Moreover, we demonstrate that the selected sentence reflects the style of reports concisely identifying to whom, when, where, and what happened. We propose that such a summary is beneficial in combination with the first sentence of an article in voice applications presenting news articles. We propose two abstractive summarization approaches based on Seq2Seq architecture. The first approach uses the tokens of the article. The second approach has access to the named entity annotations. The experiments show that both approaches exceed state-of-the-art results previously reported by Straka et al. (2018), with the latter achieving slightly better results on SumeCzech's out-of-domain testing set.

Abstract: Objective. Complex spatiotemporal neural activity encodes rich information related to behavior and cognition. Conventional research has focused on neural activity acquired using one of many different measurement modalities, each of which provides useful but incomplete assessment of the neural code. Multi-modal techniques can overcome tradeoffs in the spatial and temporal resolution of a single modality to reveal deeper and more comprehensive understanding of system-level neural mechanisms. Uncovering multi-scale dynamics is essential for a mechanistic understanding of brain function and for harnessing neuroscientific insights to develop more effective clinical treatment. Approach. We discuss conventional methodologies used for characterizing neural activity at different scales and review contemporary examples of how these approaches have been combined. Then we present our case for integrating activity across multiple scales to benefit from the combined strengths of each approach and elucidate a more holistic understanding of neural processes. Main results. We examine various combinations of neural activity at different scales and analytical techniques that can be used to integrate or illuminate information across scales, as well the technologies that enable such exciting studies. We conclude with challenges facing future multi-scale studies, and a discussion of the power and potential of these approaches. Significance. This roadmap will lead the readers toward a broad range of multi-scale neural decoding techniques and their benefits over single-modality analyses. This Review article highlights the importance of multi-scale analyses for systematically interrogating complex spatiotemporal mechanisms underlying cognition and behavior.

Abstract: Visual working memory, a complex cognitive process that is essential for goal-directed behaviors, allows the internal maintenance and manipulation of detailed visual information that is no longer available in the environment. The neural processes and representations that support this essential ability remain the focus of much research and debate. In this dissertation, I present three experiments that tested key predictions of a sensory recruitment model of visual working memory, which proposes that the same regions responsible for primary sensory processing are recruited to maintain precise sensory details over short delays. All of these experiments involved the collection of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data while participants performed cognitive tasks requiring visual working memory. The primary fMRI analyses described here utilize two multivariate approaches that model the information content of distributed patterns of brain activity: inverted encoding models and multivoxel pattern analysis.The first chapter of this dissertation uses an inverted encoding model to reconstruct simple orientation information held in working memory and examines the effect of subsequent visual input on these memory representations. Here, I show that visual working memory representations are flexible and can dynamically adjust to meet task demands. First, I find that the early visual areas maintain precise orientation information over a delay, but that these representations are susceptible to bias from visual interference. Abstract: Visual working memory (VWM) recruits a broad network of brain regions, including prefrontal, parietal, and visual cortices. Recent evidence supports a "sensory recruitment" model of VWM, whereby precise visual details are maintained in the same stimulus-selective regions responsible for perception. A key question in evaluating the sensory recruitment model is how VWM representations persist through distracting visual input, given that the early visual areas that putatively represent VWM content are susceptible to interference from visual stimulation.To address this question, we used a functional magnetic resonance imaging inverted encoding model approach to quantitatively assess the effect of distractors on VWM representations in early visual cortex and the intraparietal sulcus (IPS), another region previously implicated in the storage of VWM information. This approach allowed us to reconstruct VWM representations for orientation, both before and after visual interference, and to examine whether oriented distractors systematically biased these representations. In our human participants (both male and female), we found that orientation information was maintained simultaneously in early visual areas and IPS in anticipation of possible distraction, and these representations persisted in the absence of distraction. Importantly, early visual representations were susceptible to interference; VWM orientations reconstructed from visual cortex were significantly biased toward distractors, corresponding to a small attractive bias in behavior. In contrast, IPS representations did not show such a bias. 42. Outlet Surface Area Influence in Spiral Casing Design on Centrifugal Fan Performance

Abstract: In this paper, the effect of the outlet surface area of the spiral casing on the performance of a centrifugal fan was investigated using open source CFD software OpenFOAM [1]. An automized loop with RANS and data post-processing is set up using Matlab, for allowing a large number of parameter variations. The effect was analyzed as a function of total pressure loss and static pressure recovery coefficient and on total efficiency as well.

While attending to currently-relevant information, we must simultaneously maintain future-relevant information, and discard information that is no longer relevant. However, the neural mechanisms by which unattended, but future-relevant, information is maintained in working memory, and future-irrelevant information is discarded, are not well understood. Here, we investigated representations of these different information types, using functional magnetic resonance imaging in combination with multivoxel pattern analysis and computational modeling based on inverted encoding model simulations. We found that currently-relevant WM information in the focus of attention was maintained through representations in visual, parietal and posterior frontal brain regions,whereas deliberate forgetting led to suppression of the discarded representations in early visual cortex. In contrast, future-relevant information was neither inhibited nor actively maintained in these areas. These findings suggest that different neural mechanisms underlie the WM representation of currently- and future-relevant information, as compared to information that is discarded from WM.

Abstract: Bakgrund: Palliativ vård ges till patienter vars sjukdom inte längre kan behandlas kurativt. Målet med palliativ vård är att ge bästa möjliga livskvalité för patienter. Vården är utformad efter fyra hörnstenar: symtomlindring, kommunikation och relation, samarbete och stöd till anhöriga. Att arbeta utifrån personcentrerad vård är viktigt för att kunna anpassa och tillgodose patientens behov och önskemål. Syfte: Att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av att vårda patienter inom palliativ vård i hemmet. Metod: Litteraturöversikten är en sammanställning av 13 vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativ metod som analyserats med en induktiv ansats. Sökningar till resultatet gjordes i PsychINFO, Cinahl och MEDLINE. Artiklarna analyserades enligt Fribergs analysprocess i fem steg. Resultat: Två teman och sju subteman framkom i analysen. Sjuksköterskorna strävade efter att erbjuda human vård och få patienterna och anhöriga delaktiga i vården. Känslor väcktes hos sjuksköterskorna när de vårda palliativa patienter i hemmet. Sjuksköterskorna kunde känna sig utelämnade och såg personal- och tidsbrist som ett problem i deras arbete. Slutsats: Sjuksköterskor har en betydelsefull roll i att bedriva vård till patienter som är palliativa. För att kunna bedriva en personcentrerad vård krävs ett bra samarbete mellan vårdprofessionerna. Samarbetet kunde vara bristfälligt och är något som kan förbättras., Background: Palliative care is administered to patients when illness is terminal and can no longer be cured. The goal of palliative care is to provide the best possible quality of life for patients during their remaining days and is designed with four cornerstones in mind: symptom relief, communication and relationship, collaboration, and support to close relatives. Providing “person-centered” care is of utmost importance to successfully adapt and meet patients' needs and wishes. Aim: To describe nurses' experiences of caring for patients in palliative care at home. Method: The literature review is a compilation consisting of 13 articles with a qualitative method that was analyzed with an inductive approach. Searches were made on PsychINFO, Cinahl and MEDLINE. and analyzed according to Friberg's analysis process in five steps. Results: Two themes and seven subthemes emerged in the analysis. The nurses strived to offer optimal humane care by actively involving patients and their relatives. Various psychological /emotional responses arose in the nurses while caring for palliative patients in home settings. Nurses could feel left out and saw staff and time shortages as a problem in their work. Conclusion: Nurses have an important role in providing care to patients who are palliative. In order to be able to conduct person-centered care, good collaboration between the health care professionals is required. Cooperation could be inadequate and is something that can be improved.

50. Body composition after allogeneic haematopoietic cell transplantation/total body irradiation in children and young people : a restricted systematic review

Abstract: Purpose: To collate evidence of changes in body composition following treatment of leukaemia in children, teenagers and young adults (CTYA, 0–24 years) with allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant and total body irradiation (HSCT+TBI). Methods: Papers were identified by searching Medline and Google Scholar, reference lists/citations and contacting key authors, with no date or language restrictions. Inclusion criteria were as follows: leukaemia, HSCT+TBI, aged ≤ 24 years at HSCT and changes in body composition (total fat, central adiposity, adipose tissue function, muscle mass, muscle function). Quality was assessed using a brief Newcastle–Ottawa scale. Results: Of 900 papers, 20 were included: seven controlled, five uncontrolled studies and eight case reports. Study quality appeared good. There was little evidence of differences in total fat/weight for HSCT + TBI groups (compared to healthy controls/population norms/short stature controls). There was some evidence of significantly higher central adiposity and differences in adipose tissue function (compared to leukaemic/non-leukaemic controls). Muscle mass was significantly lower (compared to healthy/obese controls). Muscle function results were inconclusive but suggested impairment. Case reports confirmed a lipodystrophic phenotype. Conclusions: Early remodelling of adipose tissue and loss of skeletal muscle are evident following HSCT + TBI for CTYA leukaemia, with extreme phenotype of overt lipodystrophy. There is some evidence for reduced muscle effectiveness. Implications for Cancer Survivors: Body composition changes in patients after HSCT + TBI are apparent by early adult life and link with the risk of excess cardiometabolic morbidity seen in adult survivors. Interventions to improve muscle and/or adipose function, perhaps utilizing nutritional manipulation and/or targeted activity, should be investigated.
