Through GWAS studies we identified PATJ associated with functional outcome after ischemic stroke (IS). The aim of this study was to determine PATJ role in brain endothelial cells (ECs) in the context of stroke outcome. Their transcriptomic profile evidenced a complex cell reprogramming involving Notch, TGF-ss, PI3K/Akt, and Hippo signaling that translates in morphological and functional changes compatible with endothelial to mesenchymal transition (EndMT). PATJ depletion caused loss of cell-cell adhesion, upregulation of metalloproteases, actin cytoskeleton remodeling, cytoplasmic accumulation of the signal transducer C-terminal transmembrane Mucin 1 (MUC1-C) and downregulation of Notch and Hippo signaling. The EndMT phenotype of PATJ-depleted cells was associated with the nuclear recruitment of MUC1-C, YAP/TAZ, beta-catenin, and ZEB1. Our results suggest that PATJ downregulation 24 h after IS promotes EndMT, an initial step prior to secondary activation of a pro-angiogenic program. This effect is associated with functional independence suggesting that activation of EndMT shortly after stroke onset is beneficial for stroke recovery.

Open-vocabulary human-object interaction (HOI) detection, which is concerned with the problem of detecting novel HOIs guided by natural language, is crucial for understanding human-centric scenes. However, prior zero-shot HOI detectors often employ the same levels of feature maps to model HOIs with varying distances, leading to suboptimal performance in scenes containing human-object pairs with a wide range of distances. In addition, these detectors primarily rely on category names and overlook the rich contextual information that language can provide, which is essential for capturing open vocabulary concepts that are typically rare and not well-represented by category names alone. In this paper, we introduce a novel end-to-end open vocabulary HOI detection framework with conditional multi-level decoding and fine-grained semantic enhancement (CMD-SE), harnessing the potential of Visual-Language Models (VLMs). Specifically, we propose to model human-object pairs with different distances with different levels of feature maps by incorporating a soft constraint during the bipartite matching process. Furthermore, by leveraging large language models (LLMs) such as GPT models, we exploit their extensive world knowledge to generate descriptions of human body part states for various interactions. Then we integrate the generalizable and fine-grained semantics of human body parts to improve interaction recognition. Experimental results on two datasets, SWIG-HOI and HICO-DET, demonstrate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art results in open vocabulary HOI detection. A deep diffractive neural network (D2NN) is a fast optical computing structure that has been widely used in image classification, logical operations, and other fields. Computed tomography (CT) imaging is a reliable method for detecting and analyzing pulmonary nodules. In this paper, we propose using an all-optical D2NN for pulmonary nodule detection and classification based on CT imaging for lung cancer. The network was trained based on the LIDC-IDRI dataset, and the performance was evaluated on a test set. For pulmonary nodule detection, the existence of nodules scanned from CT images were estimated with two-class classification based on the network, achieving a recall rate of 91.08% from the test set. For pulmonary nodule classification, benign and malignant nodules were also classified with two-class classification with an accuracy of 76.77% and an area under the curve (AUC) value of 0.8292. Our numerical simulations show the possibility of using optical neural networks for fast medical image processing and aided diagnosis.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a chronic and progressive inflammatory condition affecting the respiratory system, is frequently associated with comorbidities involving the cardiovascular system. Consequently, the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the variations in NT-proBNP levels across distinct patient groups with COPD and establish a foundation for future investigations into the precise clinical significance of NT-proBNP in COPD.Methods: The search databases for this study were conducted in PubMed, Excerpt Medica database (Embase), Web of Science (WOS), and Cochrane Library databases. Databases were searched for studies on the predictive value of NT-proBNP in adult COPD patients.Results: A total of 29 studies (8534 participants) were included. Patients with stable COPD exhibit elevated levels of NT-proBNP [standardized mean difference(SMD) [95CI%]=0.51 [0.13,0.89]; p=0.0092]. COPD patients with predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) < 50% exhibit significantly elevated levels of NT-proBNP compared to those with FEV1 ⩾50%[SMD [95CI%]=0.17 [0.05,0.29]; p=0.0058]. Human Object Interaction (HOI) detection aims to localize and infer the relationships between a human and an object. Arguably, training supervised models for this task from scratch presents challenges due to the performance drop over rare classes and the high computational cost and time required to handle long-tailed distributions of HOIs in complex HOI scenes in realistic settings. This observation motivates us to design an HOI detector that can be trained even with long-tailed labeled data and can leverage existing knowledge from pre-trained models. Inspired by the powerful generalization ability of the large Vision-Language Models (VLM) on classification and retrieval tasks, we propose an efficient Adaptive HOI Detector with Concept-guided Memory (ADA-CM). ADA-CM has two operating modes. The first mode makes it tunable without learning new parameters in a training-free paradigm. Its second mode incorporates an instance-aware adapter mechanism that can further efficiently boost performance if updating a lightweight set of parameters can be afforded. Our proposed method achieves competitive results with state-of-the-art on the HICO-DET and V-COCO datasets with much less training time. Code can be found at https://github.com/ltttpku/ADA-CM.

Long-chain alkanes are a type of intermediate volatility organic compound (IVOC) in the atmosphere and a potential source of secondary organic aerosols (SOAs). C12–C14n-alkylcyclohexanes are important compositions of IVOCs, with considerable concentrations and emission rates. The reaction rate constants and SOA formation of the reactions of C12–C14n-alkylcyclohexanes with Cl atoms were investigated in the present study. The reaction rate constants of the long-chain alkanes obtained via the relative-rate method at 298 ± 0.2 K (in units of ×10–10 cm3 molecule–1 s–1) were as follows: khexylcyclohexane = 5.11 ± 0.28, kheptylcyclohexane = 5.56 ± 0.30, and koctylcyclohexane = 5.74 ± 0.31. The gas-phase products of the reactions were identified as mainly small molecules of aldehydes, ketones, and acids. The particle-phase products were mostly monomers and oligomers, but there were still trimers even under high-NOx conditions. Moreover, under high-NOx conditions (urban atmosphere), the SOA yields of hexylcyclohexane are higher than that under low-NOx conditions (remote atmosphere), indicating that more attention should be given to the SOA formation of Cl-initiated n-alkylcyclohexane oxidations in polluted regions. This research can further clarify the oxidation processes and SOA formation of n-alkylcyclohexanes in the atmosphere.

Alginate capillary hydrogels seeded with differentiated cells can fill the lesion cavity and promote axonal regeneration after grafting into the injured spinal cord. Neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) can potentially repair the spinal cord; however, effects of alginate hydrogels (AHs) on NSPCs remain unknown. In this study, we fabricated AHs cross-linked by Ca2+ and seeded hydrogels with rat embryonic day 14 NSPCs. Immunocytochemistry and electron microscopy show that NSPCs survive, proliferate and differentiate into neurons in vitro within the capillaries. After transplantation into an acute T8 complete spinal cord transection site in adult rats, approximately one-third (38.3%) of grafted cells survive and differentiate into neurons (40.7%), astrocytes (26.6%) and oligodendrocytes (28.4%) at 8 weeks post-grafting. NSPCs promote the growth of host axons within the capillaries in a time-dependent manner. Host axons make synapse-like contacts with NSPC-derived neurons within the hydrogel channels, and graft-derived axons extend into the host white and gray matter making putative synapses. This is paralleled by improved electrophysiological conductivity across the lesion and partial hindlimb locomotor recovery.

Understanding human tasks through video observations is an essential capability of intelligent agents. The challenges of such capability lie in the difficulty of generating a detailed understanding of situated actions, their effects on object states (i.e., state changes), and their causal dependencies. These challenges are further aggravated by the natural parallelism from multi-tasking and partial observations in multi-agent collaboration. Most prior works leverage action localization or future prediction as an indirect metric for evaluating such task understanding from videos. To make a direct evaluation, we introduce the EgoTaskQA benchmark that provides a single home for the crucial dimensions of task understanding through question-answering on real-world egocentric videos. We meticulously design questions that target the understanding of (1) action dependencies and effects, (2) intents and goals, and (3) agents' beliefs about others. These questions are divided into four types, including descriptive (what status?), predictive (what will?), explanatory (what caused?), and counterfactual (what if?) to provide diagnostic analyses on spatial, temporal, and causal understandings of goal-oriented tasks. We evaluate state-of-the-art video reasoning models on our benchmark and show their significant gaps between humans in understanding complex goal-oriented egocentric videos. In this technical report, we briefly introduce the solutions of our team `PKU-WICT-MIPL' for the PIC Makeup Temporal Video Grounding (MTVG) Challenge in ACM-MM 2022. Given an untrimmed makeup video and a step query, the MTVG aims to localize a temporal moment of the target makeup step in the video. To tackle this task, we propose a phrase relationship mining framework to exploit the temporal localization relationship relevant to the fine-grained phrase and the whole sentence. Besides, we propose to constrain the localization results of different step sentence queries to not overlap with each other through a dynamic programming algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. L'ictus és una de les principals causes de mort i discapacitat a tot el món amb un gran impacte socioeconòmic i costos sanitaris. Dades recents mostren que hi ha més de 13 milions de nous ictus anualment, una de cada quatre persones majors de 25 anys tindrà un ictus, 80 milions de persones viuen amb les conseqüències d'un ictus i més de cinc milions de persones moren d'aquesta malaltia anualment. Malgrat aquestes xifres devastadores, els únics tractaments per a l'ictus agut són les teràpies de reperfusió farmacològica per dissoldre el coàgul/trombe o els procediments mecànics per evacuar-lo (trombectomíes). Afortunadament, són teràpies que salven vides, però amb estrictes protocols d'inclusió i una finestra terapèutica d'unes hores a causa de l'augment de complicacions hemorràgiques si s'administren tardanament o per la falta d'eficàcia. Però no tots els pacients són candidats a teràpies de reperfusió, inclosos els ictus d'origen hemorràgic. A més, els pacients amb ictus també tenen oportunitats terapèutiques amb els programes multidisciplinaris de neurorehabilitació, que s'han integrat en les guies per al maneig de l'ictus. Per tant, és fonamental investigar noves teràpies per a l'ictus per ser traslladades a la pràctica clínica ràpidament, amb un impacte terapèutic tant en la neuroprotecció com en la neurorreparación. In this regard recent data shows that there are over 13 million new strokes annually, one in four people over age 25 will have a stroke in their lifetime, 80 million people are currently living with the consequences of a stroke and more than five million people die from stroke annually. Despite these threatening numbers, nowadays the only available treatments for acute stroke are the pharmacological reperfusion therapies to dissolve the clot/thrombus or the mechanical approaches to evacuate the occluding thrombus (thrombectomies). Fortunately, these are effective and saving-live therapies, but with strict inclusion protocols and a short therapeutic time-window of hours after the symptoms onset due to the increase in hemorrhagic complications if administrated late or the lack of efficacy. However, not all patients are candidates for reperfusion therapies including all hemorrhagic strokes, among others. After this acute phase of the disease stroke patients also have therapeutic opportunities with multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation programs, which have been integrated into the guidelines for stroke management for years. With this scenario it is essential to investigate novel stroke therapies designed to be potentially translated into the clinical practice as rapid as possible, with a therapeutic impact in both neuroprotection and neurorepair. In this context, the present thesis investigates the therapeutic potential of administering Angiogenin (ANG) in a mouse model of cerebral ischemia in a clinically-relevant therapeutic approach. ANG is a ribonuclease recognized to regulate cell proliferation, survival, differentiation or migration by activating different signaling pathways, with protective effects in other neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson and known associations with the presence of ANG variants. UDHEBRON, Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide with effective acute thrombolytic treatments. However, brain repair mechanisms related to spontaneous or rehabilitation-induced recovery are still under investigation, and little is known about the molecules involved. The present study examines the potential role of angiogenin (ANG), a known regulator of cell function and metabolism linked to neurological disorders, focusing in the neurogenic subventricular zone (SVZ). Angiogenin expression was examined in the mouse SVZ and in SVZ-derived neural stem cells (NSCs), which were exposed to exogenous ANG treatment during neurosphere formation as well as in other neuron-like cells (SH-SY5Y). Additionally, male C57Bl/6 mice underwent a distal permanent occlusion of the middle cerebral artery to study endogenous and exercise-induced expression of SVZ-ANG and neuroblast migration. Our results show that SVZ areas are rich in ANG, primarily expressed in DCX+ neuroblasts but not in nestin+NSCs. In vitro, treatment with ANG increased the number of SVZ-derived NSCs forming neurospheres but could not modify SH-SY5Y neurite differentiation. Finally, physical exercise rapidly increased the amount of endogenous ANG in the ipsilateral SVZ niche after ischemia, where DCX-migrating cells increased as part of the post-stroke neurogenesis process. Large area flexible electronics (FE) is emerging for low-cost, light-weight wearable electronics, artificial skins and IoT nodes, benefiting from its low-cost fabrication and mechanical flexibility. How-ever, the low temperature requirement for fabrication on a flexible substrate and the large-area nature of flexible sensor arrays inevitably result in inadequate device yield, reliability and stability. Therefore, it is essential to develop design methodologies for large area sensing applications which can ensure system robustness with-out relying on highly reliable devices. Based on the observation that most signals sensed by body sensor arrays exhibit sparse statistical characteristics, we propose a system design method which lever-ages the sparse nature via compressed sensing (CS). Specifically, we use flexible circuitry to implement a CS encoder and decode the compressed signal in the silicon side. As a system demonstration, we fabricated the temperature sensor array, shift register and amplifier to illustrate the feasibility of the encoder design using carbon-nanotube-based flexible thin-film transistors. To evaluate the improvement of system robustness achieved by the proposed sensing schema, we conducted two case studies: temperature imaging and tactile-sensor based object recognition. With ~10% sparse errors (due to either device defects or transient errors), we achieved reduction of root-mean-square-error (RMSE) from 0.20 to 0.05 for temperature sensing and boost the classification accuracy from 65% to 84% for tactile-sensing based object recognition. © 2020 IEEE.

Semiconducting single‐walled carbon nanotubes (swCNTs) are a promising class of materials for emerging applications. In particular, they are demonstrated to possess excellent biosensing capabilities, and are poised to address existing challenges in sensor reliability, sensitivity, and selectivity. This work focuses on swCNT field‐effect transistors (FETs) employing rubbery double‐layer capacitive dielectric poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐hexafluoropropylene). These devices exhibit small device‐to‐device variation as well as high current output at low voltages (<0.5 V), making them compatible with most physiological liquids. Using this platform, the swCNT devices are directly exposed to aqueous solutions containing different solutes to characterize their effects on FET current–voltage (FET I–V) characteristics. Clear deviation from ideal characteristics is observed when swCNTs are directly contacted by water. Such changes are attributed to strong interactions between water molecules and sp2‐hybridized carbon structures. Selective response to Hg2+ is discussed along with reversible pH effect using two distinct device geometries. Additionally, the influence of aqueous ammonium/ammonia in direct contact with the swCNTs is investigated. Understanding the FET I–V characteristics of low‐voltage swCNT FETs may provide insights for future development of stable, reliable, and selective biosensor systems.

Organic solar cells have attracted academic and industrial interests due to the advantages like lightweight, flexibility and roll-to-roll fabrication. Nowadays, 18% power conversion efficiency has been achieved in the state-of-the-art organic solar cells. The recent rapid progress in organic solar cells relies on the continuously emerging new materials and device fabrication technologies, and the deep understanding on film morphology, molecular packing and device physics. Donor and acceptor materials are the key materials for organic solar cells since they determine the device performance. The past 25 years have witnessed an odyssey in developing high-performance donors and acceptors. In this review, we focus on those star materials and milestone work, and introduce the molecular structure evolution of key materials. These key materials include homopolymer donors, D-A copolymer donors, A-D-A small molecular donors, fullerene acceptors and nonfullerene acceptors. Advances in ultra-thin, flexible, stretchable and conformable materials have made skin electronics feasible. In this paper, we prototyped an active electrode (with a thickness ≤ 2 um), which integrates the electrode with a thin-film transistor (TFT) based amplifier, to effectively suppress motion artifacts. The fabricated ultra-thin amplifier can achieve a gain of 32 dB at 20 kHz, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed active electrode. Using atrial fibrillation (AF) detection for electrocardiogram (ECG) as an application driver, we further develop a simulation framework taking into account all elements including the skin, the sensor, the amplifier and the silicon chip. Systematic and quantitative simulation results indicate that the proposed active electrode can effectively improve the signal quality under motion noises (achieving ≥30 dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)), which boosts classification accuracy by more than 19% for AF detection. © 2019 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Using high-uniformity deposition and pseudo-CMOS design, we demonstrated CNT TFTs with good uniformity and high performance at low operation voltage of 3 V. We tested forty-four 2-ium channel 5-stage ring oscillators on the same flexible substrate (1,056 TFTs). All worked as expected with gate delays of 42.7 +/- 13.1 ns. With these high-performance TFTs, we demonstrated 8-stage shift registers running at 50 kHz and the first tunable-gain amplifier with 1,000 gain at 20 kHz. These results show great potentials of using solution-processed CNT TFTs for large-scale flexible electronics.

Two novel visual cryptography (VC) schemes are proposed by combining VC with single-pixel imaging (SPI) for the first time. It is pointed out that the overlapping of visual key images in VC is similar to the superposition of pixel intensities by a single-pixel detector in SPI. In the first scheme, QR-code VC is designed by using opaque sheets instead of transparent sheets. The secret image can be recovered when identical illumination patterns are projected onto multiple visual key images and a single detector is used to record the total light intensities. In the second scheme, the secret image is shared by multiple illumination pattern sequences and it can be recovered when the visual key patterns are projected onto identical items. The application of VC can be extended to more diversified scenarios by our proposed schemes.

Deep learning has been extensively applied in many optical imaging applications in recent years. Despite the success, the limitations and drawbacks of deep learning in optical imaging have been seldom investigated. In this work, we show that conventional linear-regression-based methods can outperform the previously proposed deep learning approaches for two black-box optical imaging problems in some extent. Deep learning demonstrates its weakness especially when the number of training samples is small. The advantages and disadvantages of linear-regression-based methods and deep learning are analyzed and compared. Since many optical systems are essentially linear, a deep learning network containing many nonlinearity functions sometimes may not be the most suitable option.

A digital micromirror device (DMD) is an amplitude-type spatial light modulator. However, a complex-amplitude light modulation with a DMD can be achieved using the superpixel scheme. In the superpixel scheme, we notice that multiple different DMD local block patterns may correspond to the same complex superpixel value. Based on this inherent encoding redundancy, a large amount of external data can be embedded into the DMD pattern without extra cost. Meanwhile, the original complex light field information carried by the DMD pattern is fully preserved. This proposed scheme is favorable for applications such as secure information transmission and copyright protection.

Expression pattern and prognostic potential of linc00511 in LIHC were analyzed. Subsequently, expression level of linc00511 in LIHC tissues collected in our hospital and cell lines were determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Differential expressions of linc00511 in LIHC with different tumor grades and metastatic status were compared. After transfection of si-linc00511, proliferative and migratory changes in Huh7 and Hep3B cells were assessed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), 5-ethynyl-2ʹ-deoxyuridine (EdU) and Transwell assay. Lastly, Pearson correlation analysis and qRT-PCR were conducted to investigate the interaction between linc00511 and miR-29c.Results: Linc00511 was upregulated in LIHC tissues and cell lines. Its level was positively correlated to TNM staging, lymphatic metastasis and poor prognosis in LIHC patients. Knockdown of linc00511 attenuated proliferative and migratory abilities in Huh7 and Hep3B cells. In addition, miR-29c was downregulated in LIHC and negatively linked to linc00511 level. A negative interaction between linc00511 and miR-29c could be a regulatory feedback influencing the progression of LIHC.Conclusion: Linc00511 accelerates

Recently, rapid development of battery technology makes it feasible to integrate renewable generations with battery energy storage system (BESS). The consideration of BESS life loss for different BESS application scenarios is economic imperative. In this paper, a novel linear BESS life loss calculation model for BESS-integrated wind farm in scheduled power tracking is proposed. Firstly, based on the life cycle times-depth of discharge (DOD) relation-curve, the BESS life loss coefficient for unit throughput energy with different state of charge (SOC) can be determined from the life cycle times-DOD relation-curve fitting function directly. Secondly, as unidirectional variation of SOC in a single time step, the BESS life loss can be calculated through integration of the life loss coefficient-SOC relation function. A linear BESS life loss calculation model is established through self-optimal piecewise linearization of the primitive function of the life loss coefficient-SOC relation function. Thirdly, the proposed life loss calculation model is incorporated in the BESS-integrated wind farm scheduled power tracking optimization. In many previous works, a single-pixel imaging (SPI) system is constructed as an optical image encryption system. Unauthorized users are not able to reconstruct the plaintext image from the ciphertext intensity sequence without knowing the illumination pattern key. However, little cryptanalysis about encrypted SPI has been investigated in the past. In this work, we propose a known-plaintext attack scheme and a ciphertext-only attack scheme to an encrypted SPI system for the first time. The known-plaintext attack is implemented by interchanging the roles of illumination patterns and object images in the SPI model. The ciphertext-only attack is implemented based on the statistical features of single-pixel intensity values. The two schemes can crack encrypted SPI systems and successfully recover the key containing correct illumination patterns.

An optical diffractive neural network (DNN) can be implemented with a cascaded phase mask architecture. Like an optical computer, the system can perform machine learning tasks such as number digit recognition in an all-optical manner. However, the system can only work under coherent light illumination and the precision requirement in practical experiments is quite high. This paper proposes an optical machine learning framework based on single-pixel imaging (MLSPI). The MLSPI system can perform the same linear pattern recognition task as DNN. Furthermore, it can work under incoherent lighting conditions, has lower experimental complexity and can be easily programmable.

A cascaded phase-only mask architecture (or an optical diffractive neural network) can be employed for different optical information processing tasks such as pattern recognition, orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode conversion, image salience detection and image encryption. However, for optical encryption and watermarking applications, such a system usually cannot process multiple pairs of input images and output images simultaneously. In our proposed scheme, multiple input images can be simultaneously fed to an optical diffractive neural network (DNN) system and each corresponding output image will be displayed in a non-overlap sub-region in the output imaging plane. Each input image undergoes a different optical transform in an independent channel within the same system. The multiple cascaded phase masks in the system can be effectively optimized by a wavefront matching algorithm. Similar to recent optical pattern recognition and mode conversion works, the orthogonality property is employed to design a multiplexed DNN.

For miniaturized capacitive energy storage, volumetric and areal capacitances are more important metrics than gravimetric ones because of the constraints imposed by device volume and chip area. Typically used in commercial supercapacitors, porous carbons, although they provide a stable and reliable performance, lack volumetric performance because of their inherently low density and moderate capacitances. Here we report a high-performing electrode based on conductive hexaaminobenzene (HAB)-derived two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In addition to possessing a high packing density and hierarchical porous structure, these MOFs also exhibit excellent chemical stability in both acidic and basic aqueous solutions, which is in sharp contrast to conventional MOFs. Submillimetre-thick pellets of HAB MOFs showed high volumetric capacitances up to 760 F cm(-3) and high areal capacitances over 20 F cm(-2). Furthermore, the HAB MOF electrodes exhibited highly reversible redox behaviours and good cycling stability with a capacitance retention of 90% after 12,000 cycles. These promising results demonstrate the potential of using redox-active conductive MOFs in energy-storage applications.

Carbon nanotube thin film transistor (CNT-TFT) is a promising candidate for flexible electronics, because of its high carrier mobility and great mechanical flexibility. An accurate and trustworthy device model for CNT-TFTs, however, is still missing. In this paper, we present a SPICE-compatible compact model for CNT-TFT circuit simulation and validate the proposed model based on fabricated CNT-TFTs and Pseudo-CMOS circuits [1][2]. The proposed CNT-TFT model enables circuit designers to explore design space by adjusting device parameters, supply voltages and transistor sizes to optimize the noise margin (NM) and power-delay product (PDP), which are the key merits for larger scale CNT-TFT circuits. We further propose a design framework to effectively optimize the NM and PDP to facilitate greater automation of flexible circuit design based on CNT-TFTs.

Flexible Electronics (FE) is emerging for wearables and low-cost internet of things (IoT) nodes benefiting from its low-cost fabrication and mechanical flexibility. Combining FE with thinned silicon chips, known as flexible hybrid electronics (FHE), can take advantages of both low-cost printed electronics and high performance silicon chips. To design a FHE system, the process design kit (PDK) offering the capabilities for circuit design, simulation and verification for both FE and silicon chips is needed. The key elements of FHE-PDK include technology files for design rule checking (DRC), layout versus schematic (LVS) and layout parasitics extraction (LPE), as well as SPICE-compatible models for flexible thin-film transistors (TFTs) and passive elements. Wafer scale measurements are used to validate our SPICE models and design rules are derived accordingly to assure a satisfactory yield. With FHE-PDK, circuit and system designers can therefore focus on design innovations and can rely on design tools to produce manufacturable designs.

A sellar mass in children is most often seen in craniopharyngeal tumors, intracranial germ cell tumors, or pituitary adenomas. However, pituitary hyperplasia secondary to primary hypothyroidism (PHPH) is not commonly seen in children. A 10-year-old girl was admitted due to growth retardation and obesity for 4 years. On physical examination, the patient had a height of 118 cm, body weight of 46 kg, body mass index (BMI) of 33.0 kg/m 2. After magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and laboratory tests, her initial diagnosis was Hashimoto's thyroiditis, primary hypothyroidism, and reactive pituitary hyperplasia. She was treated with oral L-thyroxine tablets. After 6 months, physical examination showed a height of 125 cm, weight of 36 kg, BMI of 23.0 kg/m 2. She developed well, with 12 cm of yearly growth thereafter. The diagnosis of PHPH in a child is very important and sometimes difficult. Based on the summary and analysis of previous cases, we can learn that the main manifestations of PHPH include growth arrest and obesity, perhaps accompanied by symptoms caused by a decreased thyroid hormone concentration and elevated prolactin (PRL) concentration. Intracranial MRI shows diffuse enlargement of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland, with a dome-shaped blunt edge change. Thyroid hormone levels may decrease, whereas the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level increases, commonly accompanied by an elevated PRL, reduced growth hormone (GH) levels, and positive findings of TPOAb and TGAb. Improvement of symptoms and the normalization of hormone levels as well as restoration of pituitary size can be achieved after treated with thyroid hormone replacement therapy. And a hasty decision on surgical resection should be avoided when the diagnosis is uncertain.
