The rock failure precursor can be used effectively for monitoring purposes and execution of underground engineering projects in a better way. To effectively determine the rock failure precursor, it is essential to consider the discreteness of the data, which researchers have not considered during the determination of rock failure precursors in the presence of infrared radiation and acoustic emission. Therefore, in this research study, the biaxial experiments of sandstone under different lateral stresses are carried out in the presence of infrared radiation and acoustic emission using the self-designed loading rock multi-parameter monitoring system. The characteristics of acoustic emission and surface infrared radiation of loaded sandstone are explained. A new index of infrared radiation of high-temperature point scale factor and cumulative high-temperature point scale factor amplitude is proposed. A comprehensive evaluation model of acoustic and thermal damage in the process of sandstone loading and fracture is constructed using the principal component analysis method based on the stress, cumulative ring count, and average infrared radiation temperature after effective denoising. The sandstone probability function of damage in the process of loading and fracture is defined, and the quantitative analysis of the influence weight of each acoustic and thermal index on sandstone fracture is defined. On this basis, a new method to determine the failure precursor of sandstone based on the first derivative of the acoustic thermal comprehensive evaluation model is proposed. This overcomes the discrete analysis defect of acoustic emission and surface infrared radiation information of loaded sandstone.

This research offers a combination of experimental and artificial approaches to estimate the dilatancy point under different coal conditions and develop an early warning system. The effect of water content on dilatancy point was investigated under uniaxial loading in three distinct states of coal: dry, natural, and water-saturated. Results showed that the stiffness-stress curve of coal in different states was affected differently at various stages of the process. Crack closure stages and the propagation of unstable cracks were accelerated by water. However, the water slowed the elastic deformation and the propagation of stable cracks. The peak strength, dilatancy stress, elastic modulus, and peak stress of natural and water-saturated coal were less than those of dry. An index that determines the dilatancy point was derived from the absolute strain energy rate. It was discovered that the crack initiation point and dilatancy point decreased with the increase in acoustic emission (AE) count. AE counts were utilized in artificial neural networks, random forest, and k-nearest neighbor approaches for predicting the dilatancy point. A comparison of the evaluation index revealed that artificial neural networks prediction was superior to others. The findings of this study may be valuable for predicting early failures in rock engineering.

The significant increase in energy demand will inevitably boost the exploitation of natural resources. The exploitation of resources including coal, oil, geothermal, natural gas, shale gas, and other energy has to be extracted with deep mining to fulfill the industry energy demand. With the increase of mining depth and the utilization of deep rock mass, the problem of high ground stress has become increasingly prominent. During high ground stress conditions, the mechanical behavior of hard rock will change significantly. Constructing a reasonable stress–strain damage constitutive model of hard rock is the basis for the design of a resource mining construction scheme, numerical simulation analysis, more accurate acquisition of rock mechanical characteristics, and evaluation of engineering rock stability. This is very crucial that needs to be addressed in a better way to solve the scientific problems of rock engineering. In this research, the infrared radiation observation experiments of sandstone biaxial under different lateral stresses are carried out. It is found that the infrared radiation energy has a near power function relationship with the effective stress in loading and fracture process. The quantitative characterization method of infrared radiation of the first invariant of stress and the second invariant of deviator stress is established. The cumulative high-temperature point scale factor amplitude is proposed to characterize the plastic volumetric strain of sandstone. Based on the effective stress and plastic strain, the plastic and damage models are established respectively. The three-dimensional plastic damage constitutive model of loaded sandstone based on infrared radiation is constructed. The model has clear input parameters having physical significance, and the compaction stage of sandstone is considered. BACKGROUND: To describe the key findings and lessons learned from an international pilot study that surveyed spinal cord injury programs in acute and rehabilitation facilities to understand the status of spinal cord injury care. METHODS: An online survey with two questionnaires, a 74-item for acute care and a 51-item for rehabilitation, was used. A subset of survey items relevant to the themes of specialized care, timeliness, patient-centeredness, and evidence-based care were operationalized as structure or process indicators. Percentages of facilities reporting the structure or process to be present, and percentages of indicators met by each facility were calculated and reported separately for facilities from high-income countries (HIC) and from low and middle-income countries (LMIC) to identify "hard to meet" indicators defined as those met by less than two-thirds of facilities and to describe performance level. RESULTS: A total of 26 acute and 26 rehabilitation facilities from 25 countries participated in the study. The comparison of the facilities based on the country income level revealed three general observations: 1) some indicators were met equally well by both HIC and LMIC, such as 24-hour access to CT scanners in acute care and out-patient services at rehabilitation facilities; 2) some indicators were hard to meet for LMIC but not for HIC, such as having a multidisciplinary team for both acute and rehabilitation settings; and 3) some indicators were hard to meet by both HIC and LMIC, including having peer counselling programs. Variability was also observed for the same indicator between acute and rehabilitation facilities, and a wide range in the total number of indicators met among HIC facilities (acute 59-100%; rehabilitation 36-100%) and among LMIC facilities (acute: 41-82%; rehabilitation: 36-93%) was reported. The need for renewable energy resources is ever-increasing due to the concern for environmental issues associated with fossil fuels. Low-cost high-power-density manufacturing techniques for the thermoelectric generators (TEG) have added to the technoeconomic feasibility of the TEG systems as an effective power generation system in heat recovery, cooling, electricity, and engine-efficiency applications. The environment-dependent factors such as the nonuniform distribution of heat, damage to the heat-transfer coating between sinks and sources, and mechanical faults create nonuniform current generation and impedance mismatch causing power loss. As a solution to this nonlinear multisolution problem, an improved MPPT control is presented, which utilizes the improvised barnacle mating optimization (BMO). The case studies are formulated to gauge the performance of the proposed BMP MPPT control under nonuniform temperature distribution. The results are compared to the grey wolf optimization (GWO), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and cuckoo search (CS) algorithm. Faster global maximum power point tracking (GMPP) within 381 ms, higher power tracking efficiency of up to 99.93%, and least oscillation ≈0.8 W are achieved by the proposed BMO with the highest energy harvest on average. The statistical analysis further solidifies the better performance of the proposed controller with the least root mean square error (RMSE), RE, and highest SR.

Homozygosity has long been associated with rare, often devastating, Mendelian disorders(1), and Darwin was one of the first to recognize that inbreeding reduces evolutionary fitness(2). However, the effect of the more distant parental relatedness that is common in modern human populations is less well understood. Genomic data now allow us to investigate the effects of homozygosity on traits of public health importance by observing contiguous homozygous segments (runs of homozygosity), which are inferred to be homozygous along their complete length. Given the low levels of genome-wide homozygosity prevalent in most human populations, information is required on very large numbers of people to provide sufficient power(3,4). Here we use runs of homozygosity to study 16 health-related quantitative traits in 354,224 individuals from 102 cohorts, and find statistically significant associations between summed runs of homozygosity and four complex traits: height, forced expiratory lung volume in one second, general cognitive ability and educational attainment (P < 1 x 10(-300), 2.1 x 10(-6), 2.5 x 10(-10) and 1.8 x 10(-10), respectively). In each case, increased homozygosity was associated with decreased trait value, equivalent to the offspring of first cousins being 1.2 cm shorter and having 10 months' less education. Similar effect sizes were found across four continental groups and populations with different degrees of genome-wide homozygosity, providing evidence that homozygosity, rather than confounding, directly contributes to phenotypic variance. Contrary to earlier reports in substantially smaller samples(5,6), no evidence was seen of an influence of genome-wide homozygosity on blood pressure and low density lipoprotein cholesterol, or ten other cardio-metabolic traits. Since directional dominance is predicted for traits under directional evolutionary selection(7), this study provides evidence that increased stature and cognitive function have been positively sele
