Both the patients in the 2 groups received the routine nursing care, while the patients in the intervention group also received the additional standard psychological interventions. The questionnaires including patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), generalized anxiety disorder 7-item (GAD-7), cancer fatigue scale (CFS) and positive and negative affect schedule (PANAS) were used to assess psychological status. Bridges play an essential role in the current transportation system that connects places separated by physical obstacles, natural or artificial. Guaranteeing the safety of the traveling public is the most important target for owners to maintain bridges. A bridge refers to a complex structural system composed of various structural and non-structural components. Each component may have direct or non-direct interactions with other components simultaneously. Once a component loses its function, a simple elemental failure may lead to a chain reaction of compounded damage to components and may even lead to a structural system failure. This is the motivation for this research to employ Bayesian network method to estimate the failure risk of bridge by integrating components of a bridge. With such a structural failure risk assessment tool, bridge owners may conduct more effective bridge maintenance to increase the resilience of bridge structures and prevent those structures from suffering unrecoverable damage. This research proposes a Bayesian network method to identify the interactions among bridge components and integrate component failure probabilities due to common deterioration or environmental impact. While bridge systems may have been designed for certain notable disastrous events such as earthquakes or floods, these systems may have ignored other important structural factors such as the aging of material, corrosion, and overloaded traffic flow, all of which reduce component functionality gradually over time. This research provides a dependency on structural components based on general types of bridges and categorized them as super-structure and sub-structure. The proposed structural component dependency of the bridge system would fit in the Bayesian network to estimate the likelihood leading to partial, integral, or sudden failures of a bridge. In High Energy Physics (HEP), experimentalists generate large volumes of data that, when analyzed, helps us better understand the fundamental particles and their interactions. This data is often captured in many files of small size, creating a data management challenge for scientists. In order to better facilitate data management, transfer, and analysis on large scale platforms, it is advantageous to aggregate data further into a smaller number of larger files. However, this translation process can consume significant time and resources, and if performed incorrectly the resulting aggregated files can be inefficient for highly parallel access during analysis on large scale platforms. In this paper, we present our case study on parallel I/O strategies and HDF5 features for reducing data aggregation time, making effective use of compression, and ensuring efficient access to the resulting data during analysis at scale. We focus on NOvA detector data in this case study, a large-scale HEP experiment generating many terabytes of data. The lessons learned from our case study inform the handling of similar datasets, thus expanding community knowledge related to this common data management task.

To deal with the invalidation of commonly employed series model and parallel model in capacitance-voltage (C-V) characterization of organic thin films when current injection is significant, a three-element equivalent circuit model is proposed. On this basis, the expression of real capacitance in consideration of current injection is theoretically derived by small-signal analysis method. The validity of the proposed equivalent circuit and theoretical expression are verified by a simulating circuit consisting of a capacitor, a diode, and a resistor. Moreover, the accurate C-V characteristic of an organic thin film device is obtained via theoretical correction of the experimental measuring result, and the real capacitance is 35.7% higher than the directly measured capacitance at 5-V bias in the parallel mode. Infrastructures, including bridges, tunnels, sewers, and telecommunications, may be exposed to environmental-induced or traffic-induced deformation and vibrations. Some infrastructures, such as bridges and roadside upright structures, may be sensitive to vibration and displacement where several different types of dynamic and static sensors may be used for their measurement of sensitivity to environmental-induced loads, like wind and earthquake, and traffic-induced loads, such as passing trucks. Remote sensing involves either in situ, on-site, or airborne sensing where in situ sensors, such as strain gauges, displacement transducers, velometers, and accelerometers, are considered conventional but more durable and reliable. With data collected by accelerometers, time histories may be obtained, transformed, and then analyzed to determine their modal frequencies and shapes, while with displacement and strain transducers, structural deflections and internal stress distribution may be measured, respectively. Field tests can be used to characterize the dynamic and static properties of the infrastructures and may be further used to show their changes due to damage. Additionally, representative field applications on bridge dynamic testing, seismology, and earthborn/construction vibration are explained. Sensor data can be analyzed to establish the trend and ensure optimal structural health. At the end, five case studies on bridges and industry facilities are demonstrated in this chapter.

Two-phase I/O is a well-known strategy for implementing collective MPI-IO functions. It redistributes I/O requests among the calling processes into a form that minimizes the file access costs. As modern parallel computers continue to grow into the exascale era, the communication cost of such request redistribution can quickly overwhelm collective I/O performance. This effect has been observed from parallel jobs that run on multiple compute nodes with a high count of MPI processes on each node. To reduce the communication cost, we present a new design for collective I/O by adding an extra communication layer that performs request aggregation among processes within the same compute nodes. This approach can significantly reduce inter-node communication congestion when redistributing the I/O requests. We evaluate the performance and compare with the original two-phase I/O on a Cray XC40 parallel computer with Intel KNL processors. Using I/O patterns from two large-scale production applications and an I/O benchmark, we show the performance improvement of up to 29 times when running 16384 MPI processes on 256 compute nodes., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

Shaft is used as a foundation to support mast arm signal pole structure and transfer load from superstructures to deeper firm strata. The capacity of current shaft foundation deployed in the State of Maryland is re-verified due to higher strength requirement against structural fatigue proposed from AASHTO LRFD Specification for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaries, and Traffic (2015). The primary object of this research is to evaluate the adequacy of the current shaft foundation design procedure. The shaft foundation verification includes embedment length, reinforcement concrete design based on moment and shear, and torsional capacity. For embedment length check, lateral reactions between soil and shaft are verified by comparing analytical method and finite element method. Wind-induced torque is a design concern for the shaft of a single pole structure. However, torsional capacity of the shaft foundation of signal pole structures is rarely mentioned in the current design specification. Therefore, by validating finite element models with analytical method, torsional effect is further simulated to the finite element model

Intracellular ATP-dependent proteases are responsible for regulated degradation and are highly controlled in their function, especially with respect to substrate selectivity. Adaptor proteins that can associate with the proteases add an additional layer of control to substrate selection. Thus, understanding the mechanism and role of adaptor proteins is a critical component to understanding how proteases choose their substrates. In this thesis, I examine the role of the intracellular protease ClpAP and its adaptor ClpS in Escherichia coli. ClpS binds to the N-terminal domain of ClpA and plays dual roles in ClpAP substrate selectivity: ClpS inhibits the degradation of some substrates such as ssrA-tagged proteins and enhances the degradation of other substrates such as N-end-rule proteins. We wished to elucidate how ClpS influences ClpAP substrate selection, and found that the stoichiometry of ClpS binding to ClpA is one level of regulation. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the N-terminal extension of ClpS is vital for the adaptor's role in delivering N-end-rule substrates to ClpAP for degradation, but this extension is not required for inhibition of ssrA-tagged proteins. Truncation studies of the ClpS N-terminal extension showed a dramatic length-dependence on N-end-rule protein delivery, and the chemical composition of this portion of ClpS also affected the ability to degrade N-degron-bearing substrates., (cont.) Evidence suggests that ClpS allosterically affects the ClpA enzyme, causing a modulation in substrate specificity, and preliminary studies localized the point of contact by the ClpS N-terminal extension to the ClpA pore region. A Higgs-Yang Mills monopole scattering spherical symmetrically along light cones is given. In this paper we interpret the hidden symmetry of the moduli space of IIB superstring on $AdS_{5}\times S^{5}$ in terms of the chiral embedding in $AdS_{5}$, which turns to be the $\mathbb{CP}^{3}$ conformal affine Toda model. We review how the position $\mu $ of poles in the Riemann-Hilbert formulation of dressing transformation and how the value of loop parameters $\mu $ in the vertex operator of affine algebra determines the moduli space of the soliton solutions, which describes the moduli space of the Green-Schwarz superstring. We develop the description of non-commutative geometry of the 4-dimensional quantum Hall fluid's theory proposed recently by Zhang and Hu. The non-commutative structure of fuzzy $S^{4}$ appears naturally in this theory. The fuzzy monopole harmonics, which are the essential elements in this non-commutative geometry, are explicitly constructed and their obeying the matrix algebra is obtained. This matrix algebra is associative. We also propose a fusion scheme of the fuzzy monopole harmonics of the coupling system from those of the subsystems, and determine the fusion rule in such fusion scheme. By products, we provide some essential ingredients of the theory of SO(5) angular momentum. In particular, the explicit expression of the coupling coefficients, in the theory of SO(5) angular momentum, are given. In this paper, we introduce an $N\times N$ matrix $\epsilon^{a\bar{b}}$ in the quantum groups $SU_{q}(N)$ to transform the conjugate representation into the standard form so that we are able to compute the explicit forms of the important quantities in the bicovariant differential calculus on $SU_{q}(N)$, such as the $q$-deformed structure constant ${\bf C}_{IJ}^{~K}$ and the $q$-deformed transposition operator $\Lambda$. From the $q$-gauge covariant condition we define the generalized $q$-deformed Killing form and the $m$-th $q$-deformed Chern class $P_{m}$ for the quantum groups $SU_{q}(N)$. Some useful relations of the generalized $q$-deformed Killing form are presented. In terms of the $q$-deformed homotopy operator we are able to compute the $q$-deformed Chern-Simons $Q_{2m-1}$ by the condition $dQ_{2m-1}=P_{m}$, Furthermore, the $q$-deformed cocycle hierarchy, the $q$-deformed gauge covariant Lagrangian, and the $q$-deformed Yang-Mills equation are derived.

In this paper, from the $q$-gauge covariant condition we define the $q$-deformed Killing form and the second $q$-deformed Chern class for the quantum group $SU_{q}(2)$. Developing Zumino's method we introduce a $q$-deformed homotopy operator to compute the $q$-deformed Chern-Simons and the $q$-deformed cocycle hierarchy. Some recursive relations related to the generalized $q$-deformed Killing forms are derived to prove the cocycle hierarchy formulas directly. At last, we construct the $q$-gauge covariant Lagrangian and derive the $q$-deformed Yang-Mills equation. We find that the components of the singlet and the adjoint representation are separated in the $q$-deformed Chern class, $q$-deformed cocycle hierarchy and the $q$-deformed Lagrangian, although they are mixed in the commutative relations of BRST algebra.
