Au début des années 2000, plusieurs directives européennes contre les discriminations ont été adoptées et seront suivies, dans la décennie suivante, par la mise en place progressive de politiques publiques visant la prévention et la sanction de ces discriminations à l’échelle des États membres de l’UE. Si ce déploiement progressif a d’abord concerné la sphère de l’emploi, les directives européennes visaient aussi les lieux de formation, dont font partie les établissements de l’enseignement supérieur. En France, c’est surtout dans la décennie 2010 que divers évènements vont pousser à mettre à l’agenda la lutte contre les discriminations dans les différents ministères, dont celui de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche. Pour autant, à ce jour, les données censées guider l’action sont parcellaires et rarement adossées à des dispositifs méthodologiques qui en assurent une bonne qualité de représentativité statistique. C’est avec l’objectif de combler ces lacunes que l’enquête sur les discriminations dans l’enseignement supérieur et la recherche en France (ACADISCRI) a été lancée fin 2018. Aujourd’hui, les premiers résultats de l’enquête ACADISCRI conduite auprès de deux universités fournissent un aperçu de l’ampleur des discriminations dans l’enseignement supérieur. Plus de la moitié des personnels de l’établissement Pilote ont déclaré avoir subi au moins un fait de traitement inégalitaire depuis leur entrée dans l’enseignement supérieur et la recherche. Si les micro-agressions sont les plus nombreuses, ce sont toutefois 22 % des agentes et agents qui ont déclaré avoir subi des faits qu’ils qualifient eux-mêmes de discriminations. Plus d’une étudiante sur six de l’université Bropolis1 déclare avoir subi des agressions à caractère sexuel durant ses études. Les résultats livrés ici mettent également au jour combien le contexte de travail dégradé que connait l’université altère les relations de travail et d’étude, et rend nécessaire d’agir efficacement pour prévenir

Item does not contain fulltext, Nemaline myopathy type 6 (NEM6), KBTBD13-related congenital myopathy is caused by mutated KBTBD13 protein that interacts improperly with thin filaments/actin, provoking impaired muscle-relaxation kinetics. We describe muscle morphology in 18 Dutch NEM6 patients and correlate it with clinical phenotype and pathophysiological mechanisms. Rods were found in in 85% of biopsies by light microscopy, and 89% by electron microscopy. A peculiar ring disposition of rods resulting in ring-rods fiber was observed. Cores were found in 79% of NEM6 biopsies by light microscopy, and 83% by electron microscopy. Electron microscopy also disclosed granulofilamentous protein material in 9 biopsies. Fiber type 1 predominance and prominent nuclear internalization were found. Rods were immunoreactive for α-actinin and myotilin. Areas surrounding the rods showed titin overexpression suggesting derangement of the surrounding sarcomeres. NEM6 myopathology hallmarks are prominent cores, rods including ring-rods fibers, nuclear clumps, and granulofilamentous protein material. This material might represent the histopathologic epiphenomenon of altered interaction between mutated KBTBD13 protein and thin filaments. We claim to classify KBTBD13-related congenital myopathy as rod-core myopathy.

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease associated with unequilibrated bone remodeling resulting from decreased bone formation and/or increased bone resorption, leading to progressive bone loss. In osteoporotic patients, low bone mass is associated with an increase of bone marrow fat resulting from accumulation of adipocytes within bone marrow (BM). BM adipocytes are active secretory cells, releasing cytokines, adipokines and free fatty acids (FA) that influence the BM microenvironment and altered the biology of neighboring cells. Therefore, we examined the influence of palmitate and oleate, two highly prevalent FA in human organism and diet, on the function and survival of human mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and MSC-derived osteoblastic cells. The saturated FA palmitate exerted a cytotoxic action via initiation of endoplasmic reticulum stress and activation of the NF-B and ERK pathways. In addition, palmitate induced a pro-inflammatory response, as determined by the upregulation of TLR4 expression as well as the increase of IL-6 and IL-8 expression and secretion. Moreover,weshowed that MSC-derived osteoblastic cells were more sensitive to lipotoxicity than undifferentiated MSC. The monounsaturated FA oleate fully neutralized palmitate-induced lipotoxicity by impairing activation of the pathways triggered by the saturated FA. Moreover, oleate promoted palmitate detoxification by fostering its esterification into triglycerides and storage in lipid droplets. Altogether, our data showed that physiological concentrations of palmitate and oleate differently modulated cell death and function in bone cells. We therefore propose that FA could influence skeletal health.

BACKGROUND: Estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancers (BC) are heterogeneous with regard to their clinical behavior and response to therapies. The ER is currently the best predictor of response to the anti-estrogen agent tamoxifen, yet up to 30-40% of ER+BC will relapse despite tamoxifen treatment. New prognostic biomarkers and further biological understanding of tamoxifen resistance are required. We used gene expression profiling to develop an outcome-based predictor using a training set of 255 ER+ BC samples from women treated with adjuvant tamoxifen monotherapy. We used clusters of highly correlated genes to develop our predictor to facilitate both signature stability and biological interpretation. Independent validation was performed using 362 tamoxifen-treated ER+ BC samples obtained from multiple institutions and treated with tamoxifen only in the adjuvant and metastatic settings. RESULTS: We developed a gene classifier consisting of 181 genes belonging to 13 biological clusters. In the independent set of adjuvantly-treated samples, it was able to define two distinct prognostic groups (HR 2.01 95%CI: 1.29-3.13; p = 0.002). Six of the 13 gene clusters represented pathways involved in cell cycle and proliferation. In 112 metastatic breast cancer patients treated with tamoxifen, one of the classifier components suggesting a cellular inflammatory mechanism was significantly predictive of response. CONCLUSION: We have developed a gene classifier that can predict clinical outcome in tamoxifen-treated ER+ BC patients. Whilst our study emphasizes the important role of proliferation genes in prognosis, our approach proposes other genes and pathways that may elucidate further mechanisms that influence clinical outcome and prediction of response to tamoxifen.

Visitors to buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) flowers were studied in central Belgium during 2 months (July and September) over 2 years (2001-2002). Forty-nine different insect species, belonging to 18 families, were recorded. Over both years, species from the orders Diptera and Hymenoptera were the principal visitors. Hymenoptera were mainly represented by honey bees (Apis mellifera L. 18.5 - 51.8% of total visitors), while Diptera were represented by syrphid flies and several other families. Variation in the visitor guild occurred at the beginning and the end of both Summers, as the proportion of honey bees was significantly higher in July than in September. No variation was detected in the relative abundance of insects between years. Honey bees appeared to be the most numerous visitors. Some syrphids and other Diptera species could, however, act as co-pollinators because of their high relative frequency and activity. In experimental cages, the effectiveness of honey bee pollination was good as these insects deposited compatible pollen on a majority (90 - 93%) of flowers without any discrimination between floral morphs., info:eu-repo/semantics/published
