- Abstract
This article describes a methodological experiment conducted during the 13th Annual (Virtual) Schoenberg Symposium on Manuscript Studies in the Digital Age, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, November 18–20, 2020. The experiment consisted of a “relay style” event in which three teams transcribed, revised, and prepared for submission to this journal a full edition of the “Le Pèlerinage de Damoiselle Sapience” and other texts from UPenn Ms Codex 660, ff. 86r–95v within the three-day timespan of the conference. The project used methods typical of crowdsourcing and drew participants from all over the world and from all different stages of their careers. After one group completed its work, the results were passed into the hands of the next. The final result—in the form of a finished manuscript edition, ready for submission to Digital Medievalist—was presented on the last day of the conference. The main purpose of this experiment was to demonstrate how the work of the transcriber and editor might be structured as a short-term digital event that relied wholly on virtual interactions with both the source materials and among collaborators. This method also reveals the positive aspects of the many challenges posed by working simultaneously, remotely, and globally.

- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract
Saturn's moon Titan promises insight into numerous key scientific questions, many of which can be investigated only by in situ exploration of its surface and atmosphere. This paper presents research on a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle designed to conduct a scientific investigation of Titan's atmosphere, clouds, haze, surface, and any possible oceans. Multiple options for vertical takeoff and horizontal mobility were considered. A helicopter was baselined because of its many advantages over other types of vehicles, particularly in that it has access to hazardous terrain and the ability to perform low speed aerial surveys. Using a nuclear power source and the atmosphere of Titan, a turbo expander cycle produces the 1.9 kW required by the vehicle for flight and mission operations, allowing it to sustain a long range, long duration mission that could travel over a thousand kilometers. The turbo expander power source can increase the lifespan and quality of science for planetary aerial flight to an extent that the limiting factor for the mission life is not available power but the life of the mechanical parts. This design is the first to investigate the implications of this potentially revolutionary technology on a Titan aerial vehicle.

- Abstract
The Cadmus mission responds to the need for a Europa surface exploration mission in the 2021 time frame that complements and extends the science performed by the Jupiter icy moons orbiter (JIMO) and Galileo spacecraft. Cadmus will help prepare for future subsurface and sample return missions. Europa is one of the most intriguing outer solar system planetary bodies due to the compelling evidence that an ocean of salty water exists approximately 20 km beneath the surface. This liquid water could make Europa a haven for life. The NASA Office of Space Science (OSS) has identified the search for life in the solar system and the resources necessary to support extraterrestrial life as an important area of study. The Cadmus mission investigates the habitability of Europa from the surface to determine the likelihood that life exists on the moon. By studying the crustal dynamics of the moon, the Cadmus mission assesses the extent to which a flux of water and ice exists between the possible subsurface ocean and the surface. Cadmus investigates the presence of nutrients and signs of energy resources in the crustal ice and also assesses the environmental suitability of the Europa environment to the evolution and sustainability of life. To reduce mission operations cost and complexity the mission architecture includes two landers that will land on the surface independently and utilize a high degree of autonomy.

- Abstract
Time-based communications (TBC) involves the use of an active data channel for time transfer. TBC was demonstrated in 2000 using commercial SATCOM modems for two-way satellite time transfer between static locations. In 2002, testing was conducted with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base to demonstrate a TBC implementation from the ground to an airborne platform using standard communications channels and equipment. Algorithms to perform Dynamic Two-Way Time Transfer (DTWTT) have been developed to correct raw time transfer data for platform motion and measurement effects. Flight tests were conducted in November 2002 to demonstrate the algorithms and determine the level of performance that can be expected from dynamic two-way time transfer. This paper begins with a review of time-based communications followed by the introduction of dynamic two-way time transfer. The flight experiment is presented with a description of the data collection hardware as well as a detailed presentation of the flight data. Conclusions on the use of DTWTT are drawn based on the results of the flight tests., See also ADM001507. Presented at the Annual Precise Time and Time Interval (PTTI) Planning Meeting (34th) held in Reston, VA on 3-5 December 2002. Siamo all'indomani della Prima Guerra Mondiale.
