Search

The connection between metadata, data, and software and the integration in an overall lifecycle is crucial for effective data management in research. The generic data management lifecycle, developed at HZDR, bridges these critical components, ensuring seamless data discovery, accessibility, and reproducibility. The approach emphasises the planning of experiments, the role of metadata, data storage, as well as software versioning, and the final publication of digital research artefacts, which enables comprehensive traceability from data creation to long-term archiving. By aligning these elements in a unified procedure, we recommend a uniform lifecycle that can be adapted to different research areas, with a particular focus on community services, such as SciCat, that improves data integrity and promote collaborative research.

Zum Austausch von Best Practices aus den Zentren und zur Förderung der FDM-Community in Helmholtz veranstaltete das Helmholtz Open Science Office am 3. Februar 2022 das erste „Helmholtz Open Science Praxisforum Forschungsdatenmanagement“. In dem Helmholtz-internen Forum wurden exemplarisch verschiedene Herangehensweisen aus Zentren zur Organisation des FDM vorgestellt. Darüber hinaus standen konkrete Service-Angebote zu FDM im Mittelpunkt. Außerdem wurde die Vernetzung mit externen Akteuren, z. B. im Rahmen der NFDI, EOSC oder der RDA, beleuchtet. Die regen Diskussionen verdeutlichten den hohen Bedarf nach übergreifendem Community-Building im Bereich des FDM innerhalb von Helmholtz und darüber hinaus.

Seither stellen sich die Interessengruppen und Akteure den generellen Herausforderungen des Forschungsdatenmanagements (FDM) wie den multidisziplinären Anforderungen, den mehrstufigen Prozessen oder der nachgelagerten Betrachtung in Projektverläufen vor allem der spezifischen Situation am HZDR. Eigenständigkeit und Kooperation unter den einzelnen Instituten gehen am Zentrum Hand in Hand. Die daraus entstehende umfangreiche Bandbreite an wissenschaftlichen Themen hat zur Folge, das immer wieder sehr spezifische Anforderungen an das FDM herangetragen werden, welche großen Einfluss auf die konkrete Ausgestaltung der Lösungsansätze haben. Das HZDR hat die überragende Bedeutung des Wissenstransfers im FDM erkannt und zur agilen Begegnung der genannten Herausforderungen konzeptionell wichtige Weichenstellungen vorgenommen. Das FDM-Team der Bibliothek und der Abteilung „Computational Science“ bündelt die Aktivitäten aller weiteren wichtigen Akteure (u.a. „Programmplanung und Internationale Projekte“, IT-Infrastruktur, Technologie-Transfer und Rechtsabteilung) rund um das Thema. The presentation highlights the research data repository of the HZDR RODARE. In the first part Maik Fiedler gives an overview of the current use of the repository, shows features and statistics on the development and embeds the system in the publication economy of the HZDR. In the second part the update upgrade from Rodare to an InvenioRDM-based RODARE-RDM is introduced with the technical background and conditions by Oliver Knodel. Furthermore, the concept for the integration of Rodare into the HELIPORT data management system HELIPORT is presented.

This ExPaNDS project deliverable describes a FAIR self-assessment undertaken by the ten ExPaNDS partner Photon and Neutron Research Infrastructures (PaN RIs) over the three-month period July – September 2022. After reviewing selected examples of existing FAIR evaluation frameworks designed to enable assessment at different levels (dataset, repository, and organisation), the report describes the evaluation approach adopted for the ExPaNDS FAIR self-assessment. As no existing framework met our specific need to focus on FAIR workflows and processes in PaN RIs, it was necessary to select, combine, and adapt existing frameworks. Supported by four underlying guiding principles, our approach drew heavily on the FAIR Principles, the RDA FAIR Data Maturity Model, and FAIRsFAIR’s CoreTrustSeal+FAIRenabling framework. Post-evaluation feedback from ExPaNDS partners indicated that they found the FAIR self-assessment a useful and valuable exercise for understanding current levels of FAIRness at their facilities and for articulating what implementations they have in progress or planned to support FAIR in future. A key output of the ExPaNDS FAIR evaluation is the collected self-assessment reports from the ten partner facilities. These reports are published openly and in full as part of the deliverable. In addition, the self-assessments are supplemented with some high-level observations on the state of the FAIR journey across the ExPaNDS facilities.

The Computational Science Department FWCC and its sister departments offer various tools and services to empower scientists at HZDR in their research. This presentation held at the 2021 PhD seminar aims at introducing the working groups DMS and MT-DMA as well as the Helmholtz Incubator Platforms HIFIS and Helmholtz AI, all hosted by FWCC, and the library FWCB. It presents a selection of said services and shows options of contact for receiving help in the topics presented.

The lecture gives a short introduction of the Rossendorf Data Repository RODARE. Features are highlighted, the typical usage is demonstrated and best practices are provided.

The Internet has traditionally been a device-oriented architecture where devices with IP addresses are first-class citizens, able to serve and consume content or services, and their owners take part in the interaction only through those devices. The Internet of People (IoP) is a recent paradigm where devices become proxies of their users, and can act on their behalf. To realize IoP, new policies and rules for how devices can take actions are required. The role of context information grows as devices act autonomously based on the environment and existing social relationships between their owners. In addition, the social profiles of device owners determine e.g. how altruistic or resource-conserving they are in collaborative computing scenarios. In this paper we focus on community formation in IoP, a prerequisite for enabling collaborative scenarios, and discuss main challenges and propose potential solutions.

Herein, we report about a two-yr-old girl who experienced primary HHV 6 infection after liver transplantation. She clinically presented with graft rejection and necrotic hepatitis as well as high fever, pneumonitis with respiratory failure and a rash. Therapy with cidofovir of 5 mg/kg per wk did not show improvement, so that a full pharmacokinetic profile of cidofovir was performed. It demonstrated enhanced body weight normalized clearance of cidofovir and cidofovir dosage was augmented to 12 mg/kg per wk to reach adequate drug exposure. With additional reduction of immunosuppression, the patient dramatically improved and liver function stabilized.

We present the results of the one year long observational campaign of the type II-plateau SN 2005cs, which exploded in the nearby spiral galaxy M51 (the Whirlpool Galaxy). This extensive dataset makes SN 2005cs the best observed low-luminosity, 56Ni-poor type II-plateau event so far and one of the best core-collapse supernovae ever. The optical and near-infrared spectra show narrow P-Cygni lines characteristic of this SN family, which are indicative of a very low expansion velocity (about 1000 km/s) of the ejected material. The optical light curves cover both the plateau phase and the late-time radioactive tail, until about 380 days after core-collapse. Numerous unfiltered observations obtained by amateur astronomers give us the rare opportunity to monitor the fast rise to maximum light, lasting about 2 days. In addition to optical observations, we also present near-infrared light curves that (together with already published UV observations) allow us to construct for the first time a reliable bolometric light curve for an object of this class. Finally, comparing the observed data with those derived from a semi-analytic model, we infer for SN 2005cs a 56Ni mass of about 0.003 solar masses, a total ejected mass of 8-13 solar masses and an explosion energy of about 3 x 10^50 erg., Comment: 18 pages, 18 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS
