We present high spectral resolution observations of the hot Jupiter WASP-94 A b using the HARPS instrument on ESO's 3.6m telescope in La Silla, Chile. We probed for Na absorption in its atmosphere as well as constrained the previously reported misaligned retrograde orbit using the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect. Additionally, we undertook a combined atmospheric retrieval analysis with previously published low-resolution data. We confirm the retrograde orbit as well as constrain the orbital misalignment with our measurement of a projected spin-orbit obliquity of $\lambda = 123.0 \pm 3.0 ^\circ$. We find a tentative detection of Na absorption in the atmosphere of WASP-94 A b, independent of the treatment of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect in our analysis (3.6$\sigma$ and 4.4$\sigma$). We combine our HARPS high resolution data with low resolution data from the literature and find that while the posterior distribution of the Na abundance results in a tighter constraint than using a single data set, the detection significance does not improve (3.2$\sigma$), which we attribute to degeneracies between the low and high resolution data., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

The Mn₂ complex (Mn(II)₂(TPDP)(O₂CPh)₂)(BPh₄) (1, TPDP = 1,3-bis(bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino)propan-2-ol, Ph = phenyl) was prepared and subsequently characterized via single-crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption, electronic absorption, and infrared spectroscopies, and mass spectrometry. 1 was prepared in order to explore its properties as a structural and functional mimic of class Ib ribonucleotide reductases (RNRs). 1 reacted with superoxide anion (O₂(•–)) to generate a peroxido-MnIIMnIII complex, 2. The electronic absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of 2 were similar to previously published peroxido-Mn(II)Mn(III) species. Furthermore, X-ray near edge absorption structure (XANES) studies indicated the conversion of a Mn(II) 2 core in 1 to a Mn(II)Mn(III) state in 2. Treatment of 2 with para-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TsOH) resulted in the conversion to a new Mn(II)Mn(III) species, 3, rather than causing O—O bond scission, as previously encountered. 3 was characterized using electronic absorption, EPR, and X-ray absorption spectroscopies. Unlike other reported peroxido-Mn(II)Mn(III) species, 3 was capable of oxidative O—H activation, mirroring the generation of tyrosyl radical in class Ib RNRs, however without accessing the Mn(III)Mn(IV) state.

In this paper, we present observations of two high-resolution transit datasets obtained with ESPRESSO of the bloated sub-Saturn planet WASP-131~b. We have simultaneous photometric observations with NGTS and EulerCam. In addition, we utilised photometric lightcurves from {\tess}, WASP, EulerCam and TRAPPIST of multiple transits to fit for the planetary parameters and update the ephemeris. We spatially resolve the stellar surface of WASP-131 utilising the Reloaded Rossiter McLaughlin technique to search for centre-to-limb convective variations, stellar differential rotation, and to determine the star-planet obliquity for the first time. We find WASP-131 is misaligned on a nearly retrograde orbit with a projected obliquity of $\lambda = 162.4\substack{+1.3 \\ -1.2}^{\circ}$. In addition, we determined a stellar differential rotation shear of $\alpha = 0.61 \pm 0.06$ and disentangled the stellar inclination ($i_* = 40.9\substack{+13.3 \\ -8.5}^{\circ}$) from the projected rotational velocity, resulting in an equatorial velocity of $v_{\rm{eq}} = 7.7\substack{+1.5 \\ -1.3}$~km s$^{-1}$. In turn, we determined the true 3D obliquity of $\psi = 123.7\substack{+12.8 \\ -8.0}^{\circ}$, meaning the planet is on a perpendicular/polar orbit. Therefore, we explored possible mechanisms for the planetary system's formation and evolution. With high-resolution spectroscopy we can study exoplanet atmospheres and learn about their chemical composition, temperature profiles, and presence of clouds and winds, mainly in hot, giant planets. State-of-the-art instrumentation is pushing these studies towards smaller exoplanets. Of special interest are the few planets in the 'Neptune desert', a lack of Neptune-size planets in close orbits around their hosts. Here, we assess the presence of water in one such planet, the bloated super-Neptune WASP-166 b, which orbits an F9-type star in a short orbit of 5.4 days. Despite its close-in orbit, WASP-166 b preserved its atmosphere, making it a benchmark target for exoplanet atmosphere studies in the desert. We analyse two transits observed in the visible with ESPRESSO. We clean the spectra from the Earth's telluric absorption via principal component analysis, which is crucial to the search for water in exoplanets. We use a cross-correlation-to-likelihood mapping to simultaneously estimate limits on the abundance of water and the altitude of a cloud layer, which points towards a low water abundance and/or high clouds. We tentatively detect a water signal blue-shifted ~5 km s-1 from the planetary rest frame. Injection and retrieval of model spectra show that a solar-composition, cloud-free atmosphere would be detected at high significance. This is only possible in the visible due to the capabilities of ESPRESSO and the collecting power of the VLT. The hot Neptune desert, a distinct lack of highly irradiated planets in the size range of Neptune, remains one of the most intriguing results of exoplanet population studies. A deeper understanding of the atmosphere of exoplanets sitting at the edge or even within the Neptune desert will allow us to better understand if planetary formation or evolution processes are at the origin of the desert. A detection of sodium in WASP-166b was presented previously with tentative line broadening at the 3.4 sigma with the HARPS spectrograph. We update this result with two transits observed with the ESPRESSO spectrograph, confirming the detection in each night and the broadened character of the line. This result marks the first confirmed resolved sodium detection within the Neptune desert. In this work, we additionally highlight the importance of treating low-SNR spectral regions, particularly where absorption lines of stellar sodium and planetary sodium overlap at mid-transit - an important caveat for future observations of the system., Comment: Letter, re-submitted to MNRAS after minor referee report; comments welcome

Aim: To investigate the strength of the independent associations of mathematics performance in children born very preterm (<32wks’ gestation or <1500g birthweight) with attending postsecondary education and their current employment status in young adulthood. Method: We harmonized data from six very preterm birth cohorts from five different countries and carried out one-stage individual participant data meta-analyses (n=954, 52% female) using mixed effects logistic regression models. Mathematics scores at 8 to 11 years of age were z-standardized using contemporary cohort-specific controls. Outcomes included any postsecondary education, and employment/education status in young adulthood. All modelswere adjusted for year of birth, gestational age, sex, maternal education, and IQ in childhood. Results: Higher mathematics performance in childhood was independently associated with having attended any postsecondary education (odds ratio [OR] per SD increase in mathematics z-score: 1.36 [95% confidence interval {CI}: 1.03, 1.79]) but not with current employment/education status (OR 1.14 per SD increase [95% CI: 0.87, 1.48]). Interpretation: Among populations born very preterm, childhood mathematics performance is important for adult educational attainment, but not for employment status.

Background: This study examined differences in ADHD symptoms and diagnosis between preterm and term-born adults (≥18 years), and tested if ADHD is related to gestational age, birth weight, multiple births, or neonatal complications in preterm borns. Methods: (1) A systematic review compared ADHD symptom self-reports and diagnosis between preterm and term-born adults published in PubMed, Web of Science, and PROQUEST until April 2021; (2) a one-stage Individual Participant Data(IPD) meta-analysis (n= 1385 preterm, n = 1633 term; born 1978–1995) examined differences in self-reported ADHD symptoms[age 18–36 years]; and (3) a population-based register-linkage study of all live births in Finland (01/01/1987–31/12/1998; n = 37538 preterm, n = 691,616 term) examined ADHD diagnosis risk in adulthood (≥18 years) until 31/12/2016. Results: Systematic review results were conflicting. In the IPD meta-analysis, ADHD symptoms levels were similar across groups (mean z-score difference 0.00;95% confidence interval [95% CI] −0.07, 0.07). Whereas in the register-linkage study, adults born preterm had a higher relative risk (RR) for ADHD diagnosis compared to term controls (RR = 1.26, 95% CI 1.12, 1.41, p < 0.001). Among preterms, as gestation length (RR = 0.93, 95% CI 0.89, 0.97, p < 0.001) and SD birth weight z-score (RR = 0.88, 95% CI 0.80, 0.97, p < 0.001) increased, ADHD risk decreased. Conclusions: While preterm adults may not report higher levels of ADHD symptoms, their risk of ADHD diagnosis in adulthood is higher.

In this paper, we present high-resolution spectroscopic transit observations from ESPRESSO of the super-Neptune WASP-166~b. In addition to spectroscopic ESPRESSO data, we analyse photometric data from {\sl TESS} of six WASP-166~b transits along with simultaneous NGTS observations of the ESPRESSO runs. These observations were used to fit for the planetary parameters as well as assessing the level of stellar activity (e.g. spot crossings, flares) present during the ESPRESSO observations. We utilise the Reloaded Rossiter McLaughlin (RRM) technique to spatially resolve the stellar surface, characterising the centre-to-limb convection-induced variations, and to refine the star-planet obliquity. We find WASP-166~b has a projected obliquity of $\lambda = -15.52^{+2.85}_{-2.76}$$^{\circ}$ and $v\sin(i) = 4.97 \pm 0.09$~kms$^{-1}$ which is consistent with the literature. We were able to characterise centre-to-limb convective variations as a result of granulation on the surface of the star on the order of a few kms$^{-1}$ for the first time. We modelled the centre-to-limb convective variations using a linear, quadratic and cubic model with the cubic being preferred. In addition, by modelling the differential rotation and centre-to-limb convective variations simultaneously we were able to retrieve a potential anti-solar differential rotational shear ($\alpha \sim$ -0.5) and stellar inclination ($i_*$ either 42.03$^{+9.13}_{-9.60}$$^{\circ}$ or 133.64$^{+8.42}_{-7.98}$$^{\circ}$ if the star is pointing towards or away from us). Finally, we investigate how the shape of the cross-correlation functions change as a function of limb angle and compare our results to magnetohydrodynamic simulations., Comment: 18 Pages, 13 Figures, 4 Tables. Background: Data on psychiatric disorders in survivors born very preterm (VP; <32 weeks) or very low birthweight (VLBW; <1500 g) are sparse. We compared rates of psychiatric diagnoses between VP/VLBW and term-born, normal birthweight (term/NBW) control participants. Methods: This individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis pooled data from eligible groups in the Adults born Preterm International Collaboration (APIC). Inclusion criteria included: 1) VP/VLBW group (birth weight <1500 g and/or gestational age <32 weeks), 2) normal birth weight/term-born control group (birth weight >2499 g and/or gestational age ≥37 weeks), and 3) structured measure of psychiatric diagnoses using DSM or ICD criteria. Diagnoses of interest were Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Anxiety Disorder, Mood Disorder, Disruptive Behaviour Disorder (DBD), Eating Disorder, and Psychotic Disorder. A systematic search for eligible studies was conducted (PROSPERO Registration Number 47555). Findings: Data were obtained from 10 studies (1385 VP/VLBW participants, 1780 controls), using a range of instruments and approaches to assigning diagnoses. Those born VP/VLBW had ten times higher odds of meeting criteria for ASD (odds ratio [OR] 10·6, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2·50, 44·7), five times higher odds of meeting criteria for ADHD (OR 5·42, 95% CI 3·10, 9·46), twice the odds of meeting criteria for Anxiety Disorder (OR 1·91, 95% CI 1·36, 2·69), and 1·5 times the odds of meeting criteria for Mood Disorder (OR 1·51, 95% CI 1·08, 2·12) than controls. This pattern of findings was consistent within age (<18 years vs. ≥18 years) and sex subgroups. Interpretation: Our data suggests that individuals born VP/VLBW might have higher odds of meeting criteria for certain psychiatric disorders through childhood and into adulthood than term/NBW controls. Background: Of all newborns, 1%-2% are born very preterm (VP; <32 weeks) or with very low birthweight (VLBW; ≤1500 g). Advances in prenatal and neonatal care have substantially improved their survival, and the first generations who have benefited from these advances are now entering middle age. While most lead healthy lives, on average these adults are characterised by a number of adversities. These include cardiometabolic risk factors, airway obstruction, less physical activity, poorer visual function, lower cognitive performance, and a behavioural phenotype that includes inattention and internalising and socially withdrawn behaviour that may affect life chances and quality of life. Outcomes in later adulthood are largely unknown, and identifying trajectories of risk or resilience is essential in developing targeted interventions. Joint analyses of data and maintenance of follow-up of cohorts entering adulthood are essential. Such analyses are ongoing within the Adults Born Preterm International Collaboration (APIC; www.apic-preterm.org). Joint analyses require data harmonisation, highlighting the importance of consistent assessment methodologies. Objective: To present an expert recommendation on Common Core Assessments to be used in follow-up assessments of adults born preterm. Methods: Principles of Common Core Assessments were discussed at APIC meetings. Experts for each specific outcome domain wrote the first draft on assessments pertaining to that outcome. These drafts were combined and reviewed by all authors. Consensus was reached by discussion at APIC meetings. Results: We present a recommendation by APIC experts on consistent measures to be used in adult follow-up assessments. Conclusions: The recommendation encompasses both “core” measures which we recommend to use in all assessments of adults born preterm that include the particular outcome. In our previous study of low mass stars using TESS, we found a handful which show a periodic modulation on a period <1 d but also displayed no flaring activity. Here we present the results of a systematic search for Ultra Fast Rotators (UFRs) in the southern ecliptic hemisphere which were observed in 2 min cadence with TESS. Using data from Gaia DR2, we obtain a sample of over 13,000 stars close to the lower main sequence. Of these, we identify 609 stars which lie on the lower main sequence and have a periodic modulation <1 d. The fraction of stars which show flares appears to drop significantly at periods <0.2 d. If the periods are a signature of the rotation rate, this would be a surprise, since faster rotators would be expected to have a stronger magnetic field and, therefore, produce more flares. We explore possible reasons for our finding: the flare inactive stars are members of binaries, in which case the stars rotation rate could have increased as the binary orbital separation reduced due to angular momentum loss over time, or that enhanced emission occurs at blue wavelengths beyond the pass band of TESS. Follow-up spectroscopy and flare monitoring at blue/ultraviolet wavelengths of these flare inactive stars are required to resolve this question., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Detailed studies of the Sun have shown that sunspots and solar flares are closely correlated. Photometric data from Kepler/K2 has allowed similar studies to be carried out on other stars. Here, we utilise TESS photometric 2-min cadence of 167 low mass stars from Sectors 1 - 3 to investigate the relationship between starspots and stellar flares. From our sample, 90 percent show clear rotational modulation likely due to the presence of a large, dominant starspot and we use this to determine a rotational period for each star. Additionally, each low mass star shows one or more flares in its lightcurve and using Gaia DR2 parallaxes and SkyMapper magnitudes we can estimate the energy of the flares in the TESS band-pass. Overall, we have 1834 flares from the 167 low mass stars with energies from $6.0\times 10^{29}$ - $2.4\times 10^{35}$~erg. We find none of the stars in our sample show any preference for rotational phase suggesting the lack of a correlation between the large, dominant star spot and flare number. Digital mosaics have usually used regular tiles, simulating historical tessellated mosaics. In this paper, we present a method for synthesizing pebble mosaics, a historical mosaic style in which the tiles are rounded pebbles. We address both the tiling problem, of distributing pebbles over the image plane so as to approximate the input image content, and the problem of geometry, creating a smooth rounded shape for each pebble. We adopt simple linear iterative clustering (SLIC) to obtain elongated tiles conforming to image content, and smooth the resulting irregular shapes into shapes resembling pebble cross-sections. Then, we create an interior and exterior contour for each pebble and solve a Laplace equation over the region between them to obtain height-field geometry. The resulting pebble set approximates the input image while representing full geometry that can be rendered and textured for a highly detailed representation of a pebble mosaic.

INTRODUCTION: Infants born extremely preterm (EP, <28 weeks' gestation) or with extremely low birth weight (ELBW,<1000 g) in the era when surfactant has been available clinically are at high risk of health and developmental problems in childhood and adolescence. However, how their health and well-being may be affected in adulthood is not well known. This study aims to compare between EP/ELBW and normal birthweight (NBW) controls: (1) physical health, mental health and socioemotional functioning at 25 years of age and (2) trajectories of these outcomes from childhood to adulthood. In addition, this study aims to identify risk factors in pregnancy, infancy, childhood and adolescence for poor physical health and well-being in EP/ELBW young adults. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Victorian Infant Collaborative Study (VICS) is a prospective geographical cohort of all EP/ELBW survivors to 18 years of age born in the State of Victoria, Australia, from 1 January 1991 to 31 December 1992 (n=297) and contemporaneous term-born/NBW controls (n=262). Participants were recruited at birth and followed up at 2, 5, 8 and 18 years. This 25-year follow-up includes assessments of physical health (cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal), mental health and socioemotional functioning. Outcomes will be compared between the birth groups using linear and logistic regression, fitted using generalised estimating equations (GEEs). Trajectories of health outcomes from early childhood will be compared between the birth groups using linear mixed-effects models. Risk factors for adult outcomes will be assessed using linear and logistic regression (fitted using GEEs). This dissertation argues that the Mexicanization of the Compañía Minera de Cananea in 1971 represented the strongest assertion of national sovereignty over Mexican mineral resources after more than 400 years of foreign control. In contrast to the nationalization of oil in 1938, however, this emerged as a conservative and moderate effort. The U.S.-based Anaconda Copper Company retained 49% of the company's ownership after selling 51% of the company to a combination of public and private interests in Mexico. This strategy represented the triumph of conservative forces, whose legitimacy rested on popular appeals to the Mexican Revolution, except transforming it into an instrument to achieve the goals of the new post-revolutionary elite. The study uses the approach of cultural history to examine the contours of economic life. As such, the concept of national sovereignty illuminates changing discourses regarding the character of work, nature, and the organization of Mexican society and politics. In its original version, national sovereignty was integral to an economic paradigm whereby the possession, control, and exploitation of natural resources by the Mexican nation were to benefit the Mexican people. The revolutionary Constitution of 1917 divided labor and natural resources and made it so that the working class could be controlled and deployed according to national interests defined by elites. Originating in a major strike in 1906, the myth of Cananea created an association between the working class, the Mexican nation, and the Mexican Revolution, which later provided legitimacy to the elite project of economic nationalism. After 1938, nationalist policy no longer advanced the social and economic well-being of the Mexican people overall but rather the private interests of elites. Background: Maximal expiratory airflow peaks early in the third decade of life, then gradually declines with age. The pattern of airflow through adulthood for individuals born very preterm (at <32 weeks’ gestation) or with very low birthweight (<1501 g) is unknown. We aimed to compare maximal expiratory airflow in these individuals during late adolescence and early adulthood with that of control individuals born with normal birthweight (>2499 g) or at term. Methods: We did a meta-analysis of individual participant data from cohort studies, mostly from the pre-surfactant era. Studies were identified through the Adults born Preterm International Collaboration and by searching PubMed and Embase (search date May 25, 2016). Studies were eligible if they reported on expiratory flow rates beyond 16 years of age in individuals born very preterm or with very low birthweight, as well as controls born at term or with normal birthweight. Studies with highly selected cohorts (eg, only participants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia) or in which few participants were born very preterm or with very low birthweight were excluded. De-identified individual participant data from each cohort were provided by the holders of the original data to a central site, where all the data were pooled into one data file. Any data inconsistencies were resolved by discussion with the individual sites concerned. Individual participant data on expiratory flow variables (FEV1, forced vital capacity [FVC], FEV1/FVC ratio, and forced expiratory flow at 25–75% of FVC [FEF25–75%]) were converted to Z scores and analysed with use of generalised linear mixed models in a one-step approach. Findings: Of the 381 studies identified, 11 studies, comprising a total of 935 participants born very preterm or with very low birthweight and 722 controls, were eligible and included in the analysis. Background: Infants born preterm compared with infants born at term are at an increased risk of dying and of serious morbidities in early life, and those who survive have higher rates of neurological impairments. It remains unclear whether exposure to repeat courses of prenatal corticosteroids can reduce these risks. This individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis (MA) assessed whether repeat prenatal corticosteroid treatment given to women at ongoing risk of preterm birth in order to benefit their infants is modified by participant or treatment factors. Methods and findings: Trials were eligible for inclusion if they randomised women considered at risk of preterm birth who had already received an initial, single course of prenatal corticosteroid seven or more days previously and in which corticosteroids were compared with either placebo or no placebo. The primary outcomes for the infants were serious outcome, use of respiratory support, and birth weight z-scores; for the children, they were death or any neurosensory disability; and for the women, maternal sepsis. Studies were identified using the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth search strategy. Date of last search was 20 January 2015. IPD were sought from investigators with eligible trials. Risk of bias was assessed using criteria from the Cochrane Collaboration. IPD were analysed using a one-stage approach. Eleven trials, conducted between 2002 and 2010, were identified as eligible, with five trials being from the United States, two from Canada, and one each from Australia and New Zealand, Finland, India, and the United Kingdom. All 11 trials were included, with 4,857 women and 5,915 infants contributing data. The mean gestational age at trial entry for the trials was between 27.4 weeks and 30.2 weeks. This dissertation argues that the Mexicanization of the Compañía Minera de Cananea in 1971 represented the strongest assertion of national sovereignty over Mexican mineral resources after more than 400 years of foreign control. In contrast to the nationalization of oil in 1938, however, this emerged as a conservative and moderate effort. The U.S.-based Anaconda Copper Company retained 49% of the company's ownership after selling 51% of the company to a combination of public and private interests in Mexico. This strategy represented the triumph of conservative forces, whose legitimacy rested on popular appeals to the Mexican Revolution, except transforming it into an instrument to achieve the goals of the new post-revolutionary elite. The study uses the approach of cultural history to examine the contours of economic life. As such, the concept of national sovereignty illuminates changing discourses regarding the character of work, nature, and the organization of Mexican society and politics. In its original version, national sovereignty was integral to an economic paradigm whereby the possession, control, and exploitation of natural resources by the Mexican nation were to benefit the Mexican people. The revolutionary Constitution of 1917 divided labor and natural resources and made it so that the working class could be controlled and deployed according to national interests defined by elites. Originating in a major strike in 1906, the myth of Cananea created an association between the working class, the Mexican nation, and the Mexican Revolution, which later provided legitimacy to the elite project of economic nationalism. After 1938, nationalist policy no longer advanced the social and economic well-being of the Mexican people overall but rather the private interests of elites. Mexicanization reduced the foreign control of mineral resources and introduced the private sector into the industry, but its failure to improve outcomes for Cananea's mineworkers frayed the b

Detailed studies of the Sun have shown that sunspots and solar flares are closely correlated. Photometric data from Kepler/K2 has allowed similar studies to be carried out on other stars. Here, we utilise TESS photometric 2-min cadence of 167 low mass stars from Sectors 1 - 3 to investigate the relationship between starspots and stellar flares. From our sample, 90 percent show clear rotational modulation likely due to the presence of a large, dominant starspot and we use this to determine a rotational period for each star. Additionally, each low mass star shows one or more flares in its lightcurve and using Gaia DR2 parallaxes and SkyMapper magnitudes we can estimate the energy of the flares in the TESS band-pass. Overall, we have 1834 flares from the 167 low mass stars with energies from $6.0\times 10^{29}$ - $2.4\times 10^{35}$~erg. We find none of the stars in our sample show any preference for rotational phase suggesting the lack of a correlation between the large, dominant star spot and flare number. This paper describes the design and implementation of Sensorland,an immersive environment developed to support an existing policymaking framework. In particular, our aim was to visualise futureapplication scenarios for sensor systems in two different contexts:(1) A highly automated mining environment, and (2) A naturaldisaster response situation. For this purpose, two virtual reality(VR) environments for HTC Vive were created using Unity 3D gameengine. Finally, the opportunities and pitfalls of the VR mediumfor presenting information to support policy making are discussed.We make several recommendations for the future development ofthe content creation process, and consider its applicability in othercontexts.

Design Population-based cohort study. setting Australia and New Zealand. Patients Preterm infants 22-25 completed weeks gestation. Interventions Comparison of NICHD calculator predicted rates of death and death or neurodevelopmental impairment, with actual rates recorded in the Australian and New Zealand Neonatal Network cohort. Main outcome measures Infant death and death or neurodevelopmental impairment rates. results A total of 714 infants were included in the study. Of these infants, 100 (14.0%) were <24 weeks, 389 (54.5%) male, 529 (74.1%) were singletons, 42 (5.9%) had intrauterine growth restriction, 563 (78.9%) received antenatal steroids and 625 (87.5 %) were born in a tertiary hospital. There were 288 deaths (40.3%), 75 infants (10.5%) with neurodevelopment impairment and 363 (50.8%) with death or neurodevelopmental impairment. The area under the curve (AUC) for prediction of death and the composite death or neurodevelopmental impairment by the NICHD calculator in our population was 0.65(95% CI 0.61 to 0.69) and 0.65 (95% CI 0.61 to 0.69), respectively. When stratified and compared with gestational age outcomes, the AUC did not change substantially for the outcomes investigated. The calculator was less accurate with outcome predictions at the extreme categories of predicted outcomes-underestimation of outcomes for those predicted to have the lowest risk (<20%) and overestimation for those in the highest risk category (>>80%). conclusion In our recent cohort of extremely preterm infants, the NICHD model does not accurately predict outcomes and is marginally better than gestational age based outcomes.Copyright © Article author(s) (or their employer(s) unless otherwise stated in the text of the article) 2017. In this study, we address the kind of knowledge that is required for Master’s level nurse education for lifespan mental health promotion and prevention. Data were collected through structured interviews (N = 109). The interviews were conducted across five European countries. The data were analysed using a thematic content analysis approach. The findings show that Master’s level nurse education needs knowledge related to lifespan issues. Needs were raised in several issues like importance of increasing skills and knowledge of mental health workers. We conclude that there is a need to emphasise the knowledge required for mental health promotion and prevention for Master’s level nursing education across Europe. © 2018 Institute of Health Promotion and Education.

Background: The NCI-MATCH trial is the largest national study (1173 sites) for ptswith relapsed/ refractory solid tumors, lymphomas and myeloma, which assigns tar-geted therapies based on individual tumor molecular alterations detected using theadapted Oncomine AmpliSeq panel (143 genes) and immunohistochemistry (IHC).We hypothesized that patients with PTEN-deficient cancers enrolled to Arms N and Pmay benefit from treatment with the PI3K beta-selective inhibitor GSK2636771. Methods: Eligibility: relapsed/refractory ca, good end-organ function, and ECOG PS ≤ 1. Pts were screened for molecular alterations by centralized testing on fresh tumor biopsy and had deleterious PTEN mut/del without loss of expression (Arm N) or complete loss of cytoplasmic and nuclear PTEN staining on IHC (Arm P), and no other aberrations activating the PI3K/MTOR and MAPK pathways (mut in PIK3CA, PIK3R1, BRAF, KRAS, AKT1, TSC1/2, mTOR, RHEB, NF2, NRAS, HRAS). Pts received GSK2636771 400mg/day (28-days cycles). RECIST 1.1 overall response rate (ORR) was the primary endpoint. Results: Of 59 enrolled pts, 56 were eligible and received treatment. Of 22 pts with PTEN mut/del (Arm N: 6 uterine, 2 breast, 2 prostate, 2 head/neck ca, 10 other), all are off treatment as of analysis (14 disease progression, 4 for adverse events [AEs], 4 other). One pt (4.5%) with prostate ca (PTEN deletion, MPRSS2-ERG fusion) attained a partial response (-42%). Of 7 (32%) pts with stable disease (SD), 2 had SD > 6 months (uterine leiomyosarcoma; endometrial carcinoma). Of 34 pts with loss of PTEN protein by IHC (Arm P: 7 prostate, 6 breast, 3 squamous anal ca, 2 cholangiocarcinoma, 16 other), all are off treatment as of analysis (26 disease progression, 4 for AE, 4 other). Of 9 (37.5%) pts with SD, 3 had SD > 6 months (prostate cancer; squamous bladder cancer, squamous anal cancer). Median progression-free survival was 1.8 months for both arms. Background: The aim of this study was to determine if children who are more difficult to get to attend for research followup assessments differ systematically from those who attend with more ease with respect to major neurosensory disability at school-age. Method(s): Participants were enrolled in the 2005 VICS cohort, comprising 219 consecutive surviving children born <28 weeks or <1000 g in Victoria in the calendar year 2005, and 218 term and normal birthweight survivors; 87% of both cohorts were assessed at 7-8 years of age. Research nurses arranging the follow-up appointments assessed the difficulty they had to get the child to attend the appointment, dichotomised into no difficulty and some difficulty. Children had neurosensory assessments and their outcomes were divided into major disability (any of IQ <-2 SD, moderate or severe CP, blindness or deafness) or no major disability. Result(s): Of those who attended 12% were assessed with difficulty. Children assessed with difficulty had more major disability (26%) than those assessed with ease (10%) (odds ratio 3.1, 95% confidence interval 1.5, 6.6; P = 0.002). No significant interaction was found between gestational age group and difficulty of assessment on the outcome of major disability. Conclusion(s): Children eventually assessed after considerable difficulty have more disability than those assessed with ease. Importantly this affects not only high-risk preterm groups, but also healthy controls. Studies reporting low follow-up rates will underestimate rates of major disability if they do not persist in tracking children who are difficult to assess and obtaining outcome data from them.

Method(s): Data from all VLGA or VLBW infants admitted in the 3 Networks between 2008 and 2011 were used. Two-thirds of each network cohort was randomly selected to develop prediction models for mortality and composite adverse outcome (CAO: mortality or cerebral injuries, chronic lung disease, severe retinopathy or necrotizing enterocolitis) and the remaining for internal validation. Areas under the ROC curves (AUC) of the models were compared. Result(s): VLBW cohort (24,335 infants) had twice more SGA infants (20.4% vs. 9.3%) than the VLGA cohort (29,180 infants) and had a higher rate of CAO (36.5% vs. 32.6%). The two models had equal prediction power for mortality and CAO (AUC 0.83), and similarly for all other cross-cohort validations (AUC 0.81-0.85). Neither model performed well for the extremes of birth weight for gestation (<1500 g and >=32 weeks, AUC 0.50-0.65; >=1500 g and <32 weeks, AUC 0.60-0.62). Conclusion(s): There was no difference in prediction power for adverse outcome between cohorting VLGA or VLBW despite substantial bias in SGA population. RESULT(S): Network populations differed with respect to rates of cesarean birth, exposure to antenatal steroids and birth in nontertiary hospitals. Network SRs for survival were highest in Japan (SR: 1.10; 99% confidence interval: 1.08-1.13) and lowest in Spain (SR: 0.88; 99% confidence interval: 0.85-0.90). The overall survival differed from 78% to 93% among networks, the difference being highest at 24 weeks' gestation (range 35%-84%). Survival rates increased and differences between networks diminished with increasing gestational age (GA) (range 92%-98% at 29 weeks' gestation); yet, relative differences in survival followed a similar pattern at all GAs. The median age at death varied from 4 days to 13 days across networks. CONCLUSION(S): The network ranking of survival rates for very preterm infants remained largely unchanged as GA increased; however, survival rates showed marked variations at lower GAs. The median age at death also varied among networks. Background and Objective(s): Post-term general movements assessment (GMA) has high predictive validity for neurodevelopmental outcome in very preterm infants. However, less is known about whether earlier GMA, prior to term, can predict neurodevelopmental outcome in this population. This study aimed to examine the relationships between GMA from birth to term equivalent age and neurodevelopmental outcome at 12 months' corrected age in infants born <30 weeks' gestation. Study Design: Prospective cohort study reported using STARD (Standards for Reporting of Diagnostic Accuracy). Study Participants & Setting: 137 very preterm infants (born <30wks' gestation) were recruited from the Royal Women's Hospital, Melbourne. Materials/Methods: Serial GMA were recorded from birth to term-equivalent age and categorised as 'normal' or 'abnormal'. At 12 months' corrected age, neurodevelopment was assessed using the Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS), Neuro-Sensory Motor Developmental Assessment (NSMDA) and Touwen Infant Neurological Examination (TINE). The relationships between GMA at four timepoints and the 12-month outcome assessments were examined using regression models. Result(s): Abnormal GMA at all four timepoints were associated with worse continuous scores on the AIMS, NSMDA and four TINE clusters (p=<0.05). Abnormal GMA prior to term and at term-equivalent were associated with increased odds of mild-severe dysfunction on the NSMDA (odds ratio [OR] 4.26; 95% CI 1.55, 11.71; p=<0.01 and OR 4.16; 95% CI 1.55, 11.17; p=<0.01, respectively) and abnormal GMA prior to term with increased odds of suboptimal-abnormal motor function on the TINE (OR 2.75; 95% CI 1.10, 6.85; p=0.03). There was little evidence of an association between abnormal GMA and abnormal motor function according to the AIMS cutoff score (< 5th centile). ImportanceKRAS mutations are common in pancreatic cancer, but directly targeting the KRAS protein has thus far been unsuccessful. The aim of this trial was to block the MEK and PI3K/AKT pathways downstream of the KRAS protein as an alternate treatment strategy to slow cancer growth and prolong survival. This was the first cooperative group trial to evaluate this strategy using molecularly targeted oral combination therapy for the treatment of chemotherapy-refractory pancreatic cancer.ObjectiveTo compare selumetinib and MK-2206 vs modified FOLFOX (mFOLFOX) in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer for whom gemcitabine-based therapy had failed.Design, setting, and participantsSWOG S1115 was a randomized phase 2 clinical trial. Between September 2012 and May 2014, 137 patients with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma for whom gemcitabine-based chemotherapy had failed were randomized to selumetinib plus MK-2206 or mFOLFOX. Background: Compared to very low gestational age (<32 weeks, VLGA) cohorts, very low birth weight (<1500 g; VLBW) cohorts are more prone to selection bias toward small-for-gestational age (SGA) infants, which may impact upon the validity of data for benchmarking purposes. Method: Data from all VLGA or VLBW infants admitted in the 3 Networks between 2008 and 2011 were used. Two-thirds of each network cohort was randomly selected to develop prediction models for mortality and composite adverse outcome (CAO: mortality or cerebral injuries, chronic lung disease, severe retinopathy or necrotizing enterocolitis) and the remaining for internal validation. Areas under the ROC curves (AUC) of the models were compared. Results: VLBW cohort (24,335 infants) had twice more SGA infants (20.4% vs. 9.3%) than the VLGA cohort (29,180 infants) and had a higher rate of CAO (36.5% vs. 32.6%). The two models had equal prediction power for mortality and CAO (AUC 0.83), and similarly for all other cross-cohort validations (AUC 0.81-0.85). Neither model performed well for the extremes of birth weight for gestation (<1500 g and ≥32 weeks, AUC 0.50-0.65; ≥1500 g and <32 weeks, AUC 0.60-0.62). Conclusion: There was no difference in prediction power for adverse outcome between cohorting VLGA or VLBW despite substantial bias in SGA population. Either cohorting practises are suitable for international benchmarking.
