- Abstract
The Egyptian Nubians relocated after the construction of the High Dam South of Aswan to a completely different setting, adjusted with difficulty to the new environment and changed part of it to better suit their needs. This paper deals with the issue of continuity in the pattern of lifestyle within the present Egyptian Nubian community. The study aims at seeking evidence of some continuity from previous socio-economic values, and its repercussion on their actual residential built-environments. The methodology relied on site visits to the area to detect aspects of the built-environment in general, using photographs, followed by a structured interview and measurements of the houses of the chosen random sample in one of the 33 villages that constitute the Kom-Ombo site. Results showed evidence of change with a slight continuity in some of the previously cited culturally related values.
