Cultural values of the coast and sea are rooted in specific land and seascapes, material and non-material heritage, including language and cultural practices. The way they are managed matters greatly for our quality of life. Concepts of cultural values include broad, overarching values, specific values ascribed to particular aspects of the marine environment, diverse value indicators, and the diverse contributions of culture to society. This chapter presents the typology of values developed by the Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), including four life frames (living from, with, in, and as nature) that are used to organize the typology. We build on this conceptual foundation to develop key aspects and types of cultural values in more detail. We then present a diverse range of qualitative and quantitative methods to assess cultural values and discuss five case studies from the UK and Sweden, pertaining to relational values of wild swimming, economic assessment of living fishing heritage, deliberation on value conflicts in fjord management, cultural values of seaweed farming, and understanding local values of marine management in the context of the life frames. Finally, we consider the implications of these diverse cases for how cultural values are to be understood, including with regard to place, relationality, substitutability of value, power relations, framing conflicts, participation, method integration, sectoral integration in management, and the potential of harnessing cultural values for transformation towards sustainability and justice.

Syftet med denna undersökning var att belysa tre aktörsperspektiv på den kommande renoveringsvågen av GotlandsHems byggnadsbestånd: fastighetsägar-, kulturvård- och brukarperspektivet. Utifrån dessa perspektiv ville undersökningen identifiera målkonflikter samt nyansera och problematisera den rådande diskussionen kring kulturvärden i GotlandsHems bebyggelse från 1930–1975 samt sätta in renoveringsvågen av GotlandsHems bostadsbestånd i en större nationell och internationell kontext. Frågeställningarna inkluderade huruvida kulturvärden tar någon plats i diskussionen kring den kommande renoveringsvågen av GotlandsHems bostadsbestånd och vilka målkonflikter, mellan vilka aspekter, som gick att identifiera. Renoveringsvågen place- rades i en större kontext genom sitt ursprung i EU:s gröna giv och Sveriges nationella strategier. En fallstudie med tre kvalitativa intervjuer och en innehållsanalys genomfördes. Analysen identifierade fem teman: oro för hyreshöjningar, kommunikation, för- delar med energieffektivisering, återbruk och varsam renovering. I diskussionen identifierades fem målkonflikter mellan aspekterna hyresgäster, affärsmål, energieffektivisering och kulturvärden. Slutsatsen var att kulturvärden har diskuterats rikligt med flera olika infallsvinklar av alla aktörsperspektiv i denna undersökning. Diskussionen har däremot inte riktigt fått den plats som GotlandsHem borde ha gett den i förarbetet inför renoveringsvågen. En tidig utredning i renoveringsvågens projekteringsprocess av kulturvärden i GotlandsHems bostadsbestånd kommer göra avvägningar och konflikthantering mellan affärsmål, energieffektivisering, hyresgäster och kulturvärden enklare., The purpose of this study was to highlight three perspectives on the upcoming renovation wave of GotlandsHem's building stock: the property owner, integrated conservation and user perspectives. The study wanted to identify goal conflicts as well as nuance and problematize the current discussion on cultural values in GotlandsHem's building stock from 1930-1975. From these perspectives it also aimed to place the renovation wave in a broader national and international context. The research questions included whether cultural values are considered in the discussions about GotlandsHem's upcoming renovations and which goal conflicts, between which aspects, that could be identified. The renovation wave was contextualized with a walkthrough of EU's Green Deal and Sweden's national strategies. A case study with three qualitative interviews and a content analysis was carried out. The analysis identified five themes: concerns about rent increases, communication, benefits of energy efficiency, reuse, and careful renovation. The discussion identified five goal conflicts between the aspect’s tenants, business goals, energy efficiency, and cultural values. The conclusion was that cultural values has been discussed abundantly with several different angles from all perspectives in this survey. However, the discussion has not really been given the place that Gotland- sHem should have given it in the preparatory work for the renovation wave. An early investigation in the renovation wave's planning process of cultural values in GotlandsHem's housing stock will make trade-offs and conflict management between business goals, energy efficiency, tenants and cultural values easier.

Social support has long been associated with positive physical, behavioral, and mental health outcomes. However, contextual factors such as subjective social status and an individual's cultural values, heavily influence social support behaviors (e.g., perceive available social support, accept support, seek support, provide support). We sought to determine the current state of social support behaviors and the association between these behaviors, cultural values, and subjective social support across regions of the world. Data from 6,366 participants were collected by collaborators from over 50 worldwide sites (67.4% or n = 4292, assigned female at birth; average age of 30.76). Our results show that individuals cultural values and subjective social status varied across world regions and were differentially associated with social support behaviors. For example, individuals with higher subjective social status were more likely to indicate more perceived and received social support and help-seeking behaviors; they also indicated more provision of social support to others than individuals with lower subjective social status. Further, horizontal, and vertical collectivism were related to higher help-seeking behavior, perceived support, received support, and provision of support, whereas horizontal individualism was associated with less perceived support and less help-seeking and vertical individualism was associated with less perceived and received support, but more help-seeking behavior. However, these effects were not consistently moderated by region. These findings highlight and advance the understanding of how cross-cultural complexities and contextual distinctions influence an individual's perception, processing, and practice of social support embedded in the changing social landscape.

The present study investigated the extent to which behavioral treatment strategies are preferred and accepted by parents with diverse acculturation level and language preferences and examined the degree to which behavioral treatments based on functions of behavior mitigate stress in Mexican parents. A multi-methods approach of parental survey and interview was used to identify idiosyncratic cultural variables that affect parental acceptability as well as parental stress. Pre and post survey examined acculturation levels, parental stress levels, and treatment acceptability. Parental interviews examined parental perception of function-based treatment in relation to cultural values. Function-based behavioral treatment for Mexican children involving parent management of strategies targeting challenging behavior in Mexican children was found effective. Except for one mother, all mothers reported a reduction of total parental stress post- intervention, with effect sizes ranging from small to large. The decreased levels of parental stress following the intervention were associated with a decrease in challenging behavior. Conclusions drawn from this study demonstrate that when treatment strategies align with parents’ cultural values, adherence to treatment recommendations increases, and challenging behavior and parental stress decrease. Important factors and recommendations for behavioral practitioners on developing cultural awareness and delivering treatment to Mexican families are presented.

It explores the multifaceted role of boycotts in shaping corporate policies, driven by consumers' unwillingness to support companies whose practices conflict with their ethical standards. The study seeks to understand the broader implications of consumer choices in the context of ongoing geopolitical conflicts, highlighting how these choices impact corporate behavior and contribute to broader social movements. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to delve into the specific mechanisms through which individual perceptions and beliefs about geopolitical conflicts influence consumer decisions to engage in boycotts within the food industry. It focuses on understanding the role of personal values, social media, identity, and social influence in shaping these decisions in the context of the Israel/Palestine conflict. Method: This study employed a qualitative methodology to gain a deeper understanding of the factors that influence consumer boycotting behaviors. We conducted semi-structured interviews with Generation Z consumers in Jönköping, Sweden, from which we gained valuable insights into their perspectives and experiences. The data collected were analyzed using thematic analysis to explore the factors impacting consumer behavior toward boycotting. Conclusion: The results show and further supports that consumer decisions to participate in conflict-oriented boycotts are shaped by social media, social influence, customer values and identity. Background: Within the context of a growing sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) population in Australia, the problem of alcohol and other drug (AOD) use by SSA youth has been reported in recent studies. Although evidence from other sociocultural contexts indicate that SSA cultural values could be protective against youth AOD use, not much is known about what pertains in the Australian context. The core justification for conducting this study is grounded on the awareness that people may perceive and conceptualize their heritage cultural values based on the sociocultural context in which they find themselves (Akkuş et al., 2017).Objectives: To explore SSA cultural values from the perspectives of SSA Australians, and to explore how these cultural values may influence AOD use among SSA Australian youth.Method: A convenience sample of 18 SSA Australians in Perth which comprised 9 community leaders (aged 35 – 74; 4 females, 5 males) and 9 youth (aged 18 – 30; 4 females, 5 males) were engaged in one-on-one interviews. The participants were from diverse SSA backgrounds including Nigeria, Kenya, South Sudan, Zimbabwe, Guinea, Sierra Leon, Ghana, Liberia, Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, and Zambia.Results: We found that SSA cultural values among our participants revolve around communality, and they include family, respect, and tradition. While the predisposing risk factors for SSA youth AOD were associated with communality and family, the identified protective factors are associated with all the identified cultural values.Conclusion: There is the need for further studies to understand how SSA Australian youth adapt their SSA heritage cultural values in AOD use within the Australian sociocultural context.

This study explores the impact of voter behavior on political campaigns in Indonesia's simultaneous regional elections using a desktop study approach and NVivo for qualitative analysis. The review of literature, including voter surveys and election results, reveals that traditional campaign methods prevail due to a cultural lag in digital adoption, highlighting the need for improved digital literacy and infrastructure. Local wisdom and cultural values are crucial for electoral integrity, particularly in communities like Baubau, while legal frameworks and socio-political factors significantly influence voter participation. Political leadership shaped by religious and ethical values affects voter expectations. Recommendations include enhancing digital literacy, integrating local cultural values into campaigns, strengthening legal frameworks, tailoring strategies to demographic diversity, and promoting ethical leadership to improve political engagement and election outcomes.

The article analyzes the forms of transmission of cultural values (meanings) through modern works of art. The novelty of the approach to artistic creation lies in it being studied both as a result of intercultural communication and as a means of conveying cultural meanings. The purpose of this article is to identify, analyze and describe the forms of transmission of values through works of contemporary art. The author identifies three forms of value translation in art: provocation, similarity, integration. Provocation means that the artist shows the interaction of the values of different cultures, focusing on their hostility and inconsistency. As an example, an art object is given by a Russian artist living in America, a representative of Sots Art A.S. Kosolapov “Lenin – Coca-Cola.” Similarity, on the contrary, is a form that demonstrates the proximity of meanings, the search for common ground in the value systems of society. This thesis is visualized by the sculptures of Buddha and Christ by the Chinese artist Zhang Huan. The third form of translation of values in art is designated as integration, when the work expresses values that are universal for all peoples: a clean environment, security, peace, health, freedom, justice and others. The works of the winners of the Venice Biennale 2019 (opera-performance “Sun and Sea (Marina) ” by the Lithuanian National Pavilion and “White Album” by American cinematographer Arthur Jafa) are given as an example. Objective: To obtain an overview of the reality of the concept and construction of original cultural values in the lives of the Minangkabau indigenous people in Tiga Luhak, and their integration into sustainable development and strengthening of human resources. Methods: This research uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method based on the Post-Positivism paradigm of Interpretive Phenomenology, a holistic study, searching for the essence, and implicating moral values in observation, analysis and making conclusions regarding the disclosure of social facts of the Minangkabau indigenous people. Results: In line with the global issue of sustainability in the Sustainable Development Goals program where the mandate is to preserve the Culture of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Peoples of an area, this research becomes important when changes have impacted shifting indigenous cultural values in indigenous peoples. The construction of indigenous knowledge and Minangkabau cultural values has been used and developed for a long time in the social structure of their society. Minangkabau custom contains values and knowledge, something that is original and inherent as a worldview and outlook on life. Minangkabau's original cultural values and knowledge are inherited and become clothing in the daily order of indigenous peoples. The concept of Surau and Silek became the starting point for the development of science. It became the center for studying an in-depth understanding of the natural surroundings which has inherited the wisdom, reason and local wisdom of the Minangkabau people. Minangkabau indigenous cultural values and knowledge have become social and intellectual capital in developing and strengthening human resources. Individual danger and collective danger have very different effects according to the predictions of a theory called regality theory, based on evolutionary psychology. This study explores the effects of different kinds of danger on 37 different indicators of psychological and cultural responses to danger based on data from two waves of the World Values Survey, including 173,000 respondents in 79 countries. The results show that individual danger and collective danger have very different – and often opposite – psychological and cultural effects. Collective dangers are positively correlated with many indicators related to authoritarianism, nationalism, discipline, intolerance, morality, religiosity, etc. Individual dangers have neutral or opposite correlations with many of these indicators. Infectious diseases have little or no effects on these indicators. Many previous studies that confound different kinds of danger may be misleading. Several psychological and cultural theories are discussed in relation to these results. The observed effects of collective danger are in agreement with many of these theories while individual danger has unexpected effects. The findings are not in agreement with terror management theory and pathogen stress theory.

The dissection of migrant identities is like a complex puzzle. Although cultural values comprise an integral component of cultural identity, the personal values of migrants are still understudied. This study examines the individual-level cultural values held by migrants who share a single ethnicity. Migrants are compared across age cohorts, ethnic generations and emigration waves as well as to nonemigrant home country nationals. The similarities between the groups lend support to the stability of cultural values. However, the differences revealed across the various migrant groups are also surprising insofar as they are not as large as might be expected given the physical, political and age separation between many of the groups. As migrant groups differed from nonemigrants, we question whether the timing of emigration is as important as the act of migration itself in shaping the cultural identities of migrants.

BackgroundSouth African mothers confront synergistic challenges from depression, alcohol use, and HIV/AIDS. The importance of maternal functioning for child development motivates interventions, yet long-term outcomes seldom are tracked. Furthermore, little is known about trajectories and the role of social-cultural factors in maternal depression and alcohol use across parenthood in low- and middle-income countries.MethodsWe examined maternal outcomes at 5- and 8-years' post-birth, from the Philani Intervention Program (PIP), a randomized controlled trial of a prenatally-initiated home visiting intervention lasting through 6 months' post-birth which yielded some benefits for children and mothers through 3 years. Longitudinal Bayesian mixed-effects models assessed intervention effects for maternal depression and alcohol use from pre-birth through 8 years post-birth. We plotted trajectories of depression and alcohol use and analyzed their relationship over time.ResultsMaternal benefits appeared limited and intervention outcomes differed at 5 and 8 years. Reduced depression in PIP versus standard care (SC) mothers at 3 years disappeared by 5 and 8 years. Depression prevalence declined from 35.1% prenatally to 5.5% at 8 years, independent of intervention or alcohol use. Alcohol use in both groups rebounded from a post-birth nadir; fewer PIP than SC mothers drank alcohol and reported problematic use at 5 but not 8 years. En enkätundersökning genomfördes för att fånga brukarnas åsikter i Västtjärnslindans fäbod. En jämförelse mellan värden ur ett myndighetsperspektiv och ett brukarperspektiv genomfördes därefter. Förändringar i fäbodmiljön undersöktes också i Västtjärnslindans fäbod. From the authority-perspecive the study looked into processes in valuing cultural values and management regulations in Bastbergets fäbod as an example. A survey was created to investigating the peoples-perspective in Västtjärnslindan fäbod. The study shows that the most important cultural values are quite similar independent of whom valuing the cultural environment (either authorities or people using it). Changes to more modern appearance in the study shows that they are not affecting character traits of the cultural shacks environment. The cultural values appears to be a layer on layer values in the cultural environment. To conclude it is importent to reach conservation in using the shacks environment to obtain a useful sustainable cultural heritage.

Purpose: To what extent the importance of cultural values of individuals has influenced consumer attitude towards SDG12 and what implications this have for the SDGs being marketed as international goals. Method: A quantitative study; collecting 230 valid responses from individuals across multiple countries. A positivist stance and a deductive approach to theory development were used. Correlation and regression analyses were carried out. Conclusion: The result of the study indicates that depending on the dimension not all targets were statistically significant. Some targets of SDG12 were either negatively, positively, or not related at all to the four original dimensions of Hofstede. Which concludes that the impact of the cultural value of an individual on attitudes when it comes to SDG12 is not global as suggested by the UN.

In this paper, we reanalyze previously collected data to identify profiles based on the four dimensions of PB, and explore whether these profiles vary across countries’ levels of collectivistic-individualistic (COL-IND) values. Our sample comprised 16,885 individuals from 36 countries (73% women; 27% men), and we used a latent profile approach to uncover PB profiles. The findings showed five profiles: Fulfilled, Not in PB, Low risk of PB, High risk of PB and Burned out. The profiles pointed to climbing levels of PB in the total sample and in each of the three country groups (High COL/Low IND, Medium COL-IND, Low COL/High IND). Exploratory analyses revealed that distinct dimensions of PB had the most prominent roles in the climbing pattern, depending on the countries’ levels of COL/IND. In particular, we found contrast to be a hallmark dimension and an indicator of severe burnout for individualistic countries. Contrary to our predictions, emotional distance and saturation did not allow a clear differentiation across collectivistic countries. Purpose: This study aims to assess the three cultural historical buildings located in the municipality of Strängnäs, that doesn’t meet the accessibility requirements currently. Therefore, the aim is to suggest solutions for each three buildings that could be useful to different authorities in the future. The focus is on wheelchair users using the buildings with the help of technical installations such as ramp, elevators, and accessible doors. The study will be based on the social-, historical-, and aesthetic aspect as well as the safety risk. Method: The method for this study is based on a literature study, and a case study, alongside with reference objects which will be the inspiration for our results. The literature study is based on fact-gathering from books and the internet which provides the study with information on cultural historical buildings, laws and regulations concerning the private buildings, cultural values, and with various safety risks. While the reference objects inspired our proposals for the measures, the case study was used to gather information in form of an interview, site visits, and communal document analysis. Results: The result of thisstudy provides measures for each of the three studied objects. Changes made to the first building, Hospitalsgatan 15, focuses on the side entrance with a ground slope pointing down towards it. Thereby the following indoor changes presents threshold ramp, and a stairlift. For the secondary building, Långgatan 9 E-F, there was suggestions made such as using an outer ramp with an idle plan. There should also be an indoor loose ramp, and a stairlift. The third building, Kyrkogatan 13, had suggestions by installing an outdoor platform lift with an adjusted idle plan in front of the outer stairs and threshold ramp. In comparison to the first mentioned building, the focus for the last two buildings were on the main entrance. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study the US-based (American) physiotherapy customers’ goals to engage in value cocreation activities during their well-being experience. Design/methodology/approach: The authors perform Smart PLS-SEM analysis of the primary data of physiotherapy service customers in the USA. Findings: The findings show that the US well-being customer engages in physiotherapy for individualizing, empowering, development, concerted and ethical motives but not for relating motives. These findings are contrasted with previous research to show that the service-dominant logic is not sufficient to account for the contextual complexity of the well-being experience and to explain the identified differences across culturally different customer segments. Research limitations/implications: By integrating insights from health-care and cross-cultural literature, the authors highlight the importance of relationship dynamics, culture and institutional context in well-being sector and develop a more comprehensive understanding of the cocreation behaviors in this industry. This helps advance the value cocreation research in well-being sector and promote the well-being experiences such as physiotherapy. Originality/value: The authors draw from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and challenge the service-dominant (S-D) logic as insufficient in explaining the value cocreation between the customer and expert in the well-being sector. The authors adapt physician–patient relationship model from health-care literature and cultural values of power distance from cross-cultural literature to complement the S-D logic to account for the complexity and nuanced context of the well-being cocreation experience.

Lately, policy for energy efficient renovation and decarbonisation of the housing sector has put the modern housing stock in focus again. With reference to the lack of common appreciation and understanding of the historical and cultural value of the post-war housing, this paper discusses current policy and its implementation. The paper begins by looking at Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden. The development of a Modern Historical Environment program is presented with its application in three examples of housing. These cases exemplify the opportunities and consequences of modernisation and energy renovation on modern heritage. The designation of modern built heritage differs from the designation of older constructions due to its scale and volume. Designating an object refers, on the one hand, to recognising an example of a specific building type and construction methods and, on the other, to its socio-historical context. Thus, both tangible and intangible values are acknowledged. Modern heritage is characterised by its resilience to alterations and allows layers of change to be included, informing about historical events.

This paper explores expressive illocutionary acts in responses to hotel guests' reviews posted on Tripadvisor and aims to compare their occurrences and realizations in 320 managerial responses in English from English and Serbian hotels, with manifestations of linguistic politeness a focus of analysis. Drawing largely on Leech's (2014) framework, it has attempted to determine whether the acts which tend to come in the form of formulaic, routinized expressions occurring in the responses written by hotel representatives with different backgrounds exhibit some differences as a reflection of culture-specific politeness values. The analysis has revealed considerable similarity between the two data sets in the lexico-grammatical realization of expressives and the use of resources for politeness. In this paper, we reanalyze previously collected data to identify profiles based on the four dimensions of PB, and explore whether these profiles vary across countries’ levels of collectivistic-individualistic (COL-IND) values. Our sample comprised 16,885 individuals from 36 countries (73% women; 27% men), and we used a latent profile approach to uncover PB profiles. The findings showed five profiles: Fulfilled, Not in PB, Low risk of PB, High risk of PB and Burned out. The profiles pointed to climbing levels of PB in the total sample and in each of the three country groups (High COL/Low IND, Medium COL-IND, Low COL/High IND). Exploratory analyses revealed that distinct dimensions of PB had the most prominent roles in the climbing pattern, depending on the countries’ levels of COL/IND. In particular, we found contrast to be a hallmark dimension and an indicator of severe burnout for individualistic countries. Contrary to our predictions, emotional distance and saturation did not allow a clear differentiation across collectivistic countries. Purpose: To what extent the importance of cultural values of individuals has influenced consumer attitude towards SDG12 and what implications this have for the SDGs being marketed as international goals. Method: A quantitative study; collecting 230 valid responses from individuals across multiple countries. A positivist stance and a deductive approach to theory development were used. Correlation and regression analyses were carried out. Conclusion: The result of the study indicates that depending on the dimension not all targets were statistically significant. Some targets of SDG12 were either negatively, positively, or not related at all to the four original dimensions of Hofstede. Which concludes that the impact of the cultural value of an individual on attitudes when it comes to SDG12 is not global as suggested by the UN.

The objective of this research was to determine the creative approach to cultural values ​​from the area of ​​social study and its incidence on the cultural identity of students. The research had a qualitative-quantitative approach, of an exploratory and field type, a survey technique was applied to students and teachers. The study was carried out in 12 educational centers of the 13D10 circuit of the Pedernales canton, Ecuador. The sample was not probabilistic at the discretion of the researcher, so 30 students of eighth-level from each school and 10 teachers who teach classes in the area of ​​Social Studies were selected. The results show insufficiencies in the knowledge and creative approach of cultural values ​​and pedagogical practices that do not respond to the formative needs of the students. It is concluded that teachers apply traditional didactic procedures with a little participatory training process, without innovative and creative proposals that motivate students to be protagonists in the teaching and learning process. The detected reality is not compatible with the student needs that can influence low academic performance and their performance as a citizen preparing for a future where they exercise their role with a social conscience., O objetivo desta pesquisa foi determinar a abordagem criativa de valores culturais da área de estudos sociais e seu impacto na identidade cultural dos alunos. A pesquisa teve uma abordagem quali-quantitativa, do tipo exploratória e de campo, a técnica de survey foi aplicada a alunos e professores. O estudo foi realizado em 12 centros educacionais do circuito 13D10 no cantão de Pedernales, no Equador. A amostra foi não probabilística a critério da pesquisadora, assim foram selecionados 30 alunos do oitavo ano de cada escola e 10 professores que ministram aulas na área de Estudos Sociais. Os resultados mostram insuficiências no conhecimento e abordagem criativa de valores culturais e práticas pedagógicas que não respondem às necessidades formativas dos alunos. Conclui-se que os professores aplicam procedimentos didáticos tradicionais com um processo de formação pouco participativo, sem propostas inovadoras e criativas que motivem os alunos a serem protagonistas no processo de ensino e aprendizagem. A realidade detetada não é compatível com as necessidades dos alunos o que pode afetar o fraco desempenho académico e o seu desempenho como cidadão preparando-se para um futuro onde exerçam o seu papel com consciência social., La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar el abordaje creativo de los valores culturales desde el área de estudios sociales y su incidencia en la identidad cultural de estudiantes. La investigación tuvo un enfoque cualicuantitativo, de tipo exploratoria y de campo, se aplicó la técnica de encuesta a estudiantes y docentes. El estudio se realizó en 12 centros educativos circuito 13D10 del cantón Pedernales Ecuador. La muestra fue no probabilística a criterio del investigador, por lo que se seleccionaron 30 estudiantes de octavo nivel de cada plantel educativo y 10 docentes que imparten clases en el área de Estudios Sociales. Los resultados evidencian insuficiencias en el conocimiento y abordaje creativo de valores culturales y prácticas pedagógicas que no responden a las necesidades formativas de los estudiantes. Se concluye que los docentes aplican procedimientos didácticos tradicionales con un proceso formativo poco participativo, sin propuestas innovadoras y creativas que motiven a los estudiantes a ser protagonistas en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje. La realidad detectada no se compadece con las necesidades estudiantiles que pueden incidir en un bajo desempeño académico y en su actuación como un ciudadano que se prepara para un futuro donde ejerza su rol con conciencia social.

Evidence suggests an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health, particularly among emerging adults. However, theories on altruism born of suffering or adversarial growth suggest that we might also see prosocial behavior as a function of the pandemic, which may protect against mental health challenges. Because cultural values are central in determining prosocial behavior, the current study explored how cultural values were differentially associated with adaptive prosocial behaviors that might protect against mental health challenges. Participants for the current study included 5,682 young people aged 18–25 years from 14 different countries around the world (68% female, 62% college students). Path analyses suggested that there were few differences in patterns as a function of culture, but revealed that horizontal individualism and horizontal and vertical collectivism were indirectly associated with lower levels of depression via prosocial behavior toward family members. Discussion focuses on the importance of coping by strengthening family relationships via prosocial behavior during the pandemic.

Researchers and practitioners have found culture to be very important to digital transformation. However, despite the widespread consensus about the importance of culture in successful digital transformations, only a limited number of studies have explicitly focused on the cultural aspects in digital transformation in small and medium-sized companies (SMEs). This research investigates and analyses the important cultural values in digital transformation in a small company operating in the IT industry. The findings of this study are nine organisational values, from which eight values show similarities to the existing research. In contrast, the organisational value entitled “affinity towards the organisation” has been identified as a new organisational value in digital transformation in small companies. The identified cultural values can raise the awareness of organisations’ management planning or currently engaged in a digital transformation and help organisations recognise cultural values that can contribute to digital transformation initiatives’ success or failure.

Cultural values are integrated in most of the national and international goals formulated to reach a sustainable future. According to the Swedish legislation the cultural environment is a public interest that must med weighed against other public as well as private interests in planning- and building processes. However, with the increasing attention to climate issues and the ambition to decrease the use of fossil energy sources, the preservation of the cultural environment may come into conflict with energy issues. The article describes how today’s legal complex has developed and elaborates on its deficits when put into practice. The results point towards improved law enforcement. We also suggest measures that need to be taken in order to adopt an holistic approach on energy efficiency issues and the assurance of adequate knowledge in the planning and building processes in order to reach a sustainable manage of the built environment.

Background: Over the years, Data Analytics (DA) has gained much attention enabling the extraction of valuable insights from the massive amount of data that is being produced every day. To exploit DA practices, various requirements for its successful usage are needed. Organizational Culture (OC) is provenly one critical intangible resource that is required for DA practices. However, there is a lack of existing research about what factors and values of OC facilitate DA practices. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore what role OC plays for DA practices and how OC can support the effective use of DA in a company. This research is guided by the research question: What are facilitating factors and underlying values of OC for DA Practices? By exploring and linking the two concepts of DA and OC, the study aims to provide a greater understanding of OC for DA practices. This offers insights for DA practitioners and managers to handle their specific OC and guide DA more targeted. Method: Following an inductive, qualitative study with an exploratory research design, the authors conducted 12 semi-structured interviews. The interviewees were selected through purposive sampling and represent two different perspectives: DA experts and DA collaborators. By conducting a Grounded Analysis, a deeper understanding of OC factors and values was created, leading to a final framework of an OC for DA practices. Conclusion: The study results illustrate various OC factors that facilitate DA practices. These factors differ between subcultures, which are represented by four groups of actors. Three factors were identified as superior, as they had an enabling effect on DA practices in the investigated OCs. Finally, the study derived five underlying values, representing a shared cultural mindset among organizational members, that facilitate DA practice.

Cultures are constantly interacting in the globalized world, and concerns of misunderstanding and prejudice against different cultural values have surfaced. People's perceptions of food are influenced by their cultural values. Offal is undoubtedly controversial in different cultures, they are viewed with distrust, disgust, or enjoyment. Unlike common operations, Chinese offal dishes do not attempt to transform offal into something different by using thick sauces or preparation skills. Instead, offal, like chicken feet, duck tongues, and fish heads, are served almost in their original appearances. This has led to the perception that it is strangely exotic and even associated with backward, uncivilized, and barbaric. Therefore, examining the cultural values behind offal and bringing cross-cultural awareness to deal with the misunderstanding of the status quo is the core of the event. The project is a cross-cultural communication design project. By establishing a literature review framework for comparing Eastern and Western cultural values behind offal dishes, and applying Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory to country-specific contextual analysis the experience prototype, a website platform called A Bite of Odd to provide services and guidelines for conducting Chinese offal experience events all over the world was proposed.

This thesis report has been written for the Innovation in Business, Engineering, and Design master’s program (specialization in design) at Linnaeus University in Växjö, Sweden, in collaboration with IKEA, a furniture company in Älmhult, Sweden. This report is about finding form for customization to contribute to adapting cultures into product development. IKEA is iconic for Swedish design; however, it is a global company with customers all around the world. The research explores how IKEA can maintain its strong Swedish identity while inviting in different cultural influences. It decodes how cultural elements are integrated within the homes of people living away from their home countries. A line of customized products was designed and developed with Ukrainian-influenced cultural values through form, colour, and pattern. Although the project was done through the lens of Ukrainian culture, the ideation behind the product development adaptability can be applied to any culture. The products bring together an understanding of product use and performance, as well as cultural traditions in the home.

Gift exchange is at the heart of many social relationships and interactions. Various studies haveimplied that gift-giving is often based on the obligation to reciprocate, thus creating an economicexchange. The common components of gift-giving are the gift, the giver and the receiver, and theoccasion. Many studies have suggested various motives and functions for gift-giving. It is wellknown that the custom of gift-giving is an important part of Japanese culture. However, no researchis found regarding Finnish gift-giving behavior. In an effort to understand more about the diversegift exchange phenomenon, this study compares Japanese and Finnish gift-giving behavior. The aimis to examine the motivations and functions, and how the cultural values are reflected in gift-givingbehavior in both countries. For this purpose, two online surveys are conducted for both Japaneseand Finnish people. The findings are then compared with each other as well as with previousstudies. The results reveal that gift-giving behavior is relatively similar in both Japan and Finland inmany aspects, and the findings are mostly consistent with previous studies. It also seems thatwomen are a little more involved in gift-giving both in Japan and Finland.
