The Prostate Cancer Charity are concerned that fewer men aged over 75 are using their support and information services, particularly their Helpline, than would perhaps be expected given the prevalence of the disease in this age group and would like to know whether these men are missing out on information and support, and if so how the organisation could address this in the future.

The scientific literature review provides a current snap shot of accurate information, and evidence on a wide range of issues relating to information needs in cancer supportive care. It may be used to underpin evidence based policy development, or it may be sought as a reference document for definitions, descriptions, methods and models of organisation and care. The review of information available from cancer network sources provides a recent picture of activities and information services, in the field, in other parts of the country. There are examples of innovation as well as numerous useful references from web sites and networks. The study of professionals’ views provides insights from different perspectives of service delivery across the network. While a single view may see no weakness in a structure or organisation, a look from a range of differing perspectives can reveal valuable insights, which planners and decision makers may need to address.

Carers complain they are sometimes excluded from decision making and are seen as lacking in knowledge. Detailed discussion in advance makes a discharge more likely to be successful. Carers of children with learning disabilities have particular communication and support needs.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the support that informal carers receive from the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust (The Conquest Hospital site). Aims and Objectives The aims of the research were to: Examine carers' experience of the care and support provided by the NHS Trust. Advise on ways in which services for carers can be improved and developed. The objectives of the research were to examine: Carers' expectations of the types of support and information which they should receive when the person they are caring for is admitted to hospital. The extent to which the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust Code of Practice for involving carers is being implemented. The extent to which carers feel that their expectations have been met, their needs and interests have been taken into account and they have been involved as active partners in the care provided in hospital.

Objectives: .To identify the length of time between the sending of the referral letter by the GP and the patients first attendance at the outpatients department (phase 1 ). .To identify the length of time between the patients first attendance and the confirmation of diagnosis, whether positive or negative (phase 2). .To identify the length of time between the confirmation of diagnosis and either the start of specialist treatment where indicated or discharge (phase 3). .To explain variations in the length of time taken for each of the above stages. .To assess the significance of delay in terms of patient satisfaction and clinical outcome.

This study considered the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of knee injuries in a district general hospital (DGH) setting. The principal objective was to identify whether the use of MRI had a major impact on the clinical management of patients presenting with chronic knee problems, in whom surgery was being considered, whether it reduced overall costs and whether it improved patient outcome.
