X-rays emitted from pre-main-sequence stars at the center of protoplanetary disks can induce nonthermal desorption from interstellar ices populating the cold regions. This X-ray photodesorption needs to be quantified for complex organic molecules (COMs), including acetonitrile CH3CN, which has been detected in several disks. We experimentally estimate the X-ray photodesorption yields of neutral species from pure CH3CN ices and from interstellar ice analogs for which CH3CN is mixed either in a CO- or H2O-dominated ice. The ices were irradiated at 15 K by soft X-rays (400-600 eV) from synchrotron light (SOLEIL synchrotron). X-ray photodesorption was probed in the gas phase via quadrupole mass spectrometry. X-ray photodesorption yields were derived from the mass signals and were extrapolated to higher X-ray energies for astrochemical models. X-ray photodesorption of the intact CH3CN is detected from pure CH3CN ices and from mixed 13CO:CH3CN ices, with a yield of about 5x10^(-4) molecules/photon at 560 eV. When mixed in H2O-dominated ices, X-ray photodesorption of the intact CH3CN at 560 eV is below its detection limit, which is 10^(-4) molecules/photon. Yields associated with the desorption of HCN, CH4 , and CH3 are also provided. The derived astrophysical yields significantly depend on the local conditions expected in protoplanetary disks. They vary from 10^(-4) to 10(-6) molecules/photon for the X-ray photodesorption of intact CH3CN from CO-dominated ices. Only upper limits varying from 5x10^(-5) to 5x10^(-7) molecules/photon could be derived for the X-ray photodesorption of intact CH3CN from H2O-dominated ices. X-ray photodesorption of intact CH3CN from interstellar ices might in part explain the abundances of CH3CN observed in protoplanetary disks. The desorption efficiency is expected to vary with the local physical conditions, hence with the disk region.

The evolution of star-forming regions and their thermal balance are strongly influenced by their chemical composition, that, in turn, is determined by the physico-chemical processes that govern the transition between the gas phase and the solid state, specifically icy dust grains (e.g., particles adsorption and desorption). Gas-grain and grain-gas transitions as well as formation and sublimation of interstellar ices are thus essential elements of understanding astrophysical observations of cold environments (e.g., pre-stellar cores) where unexpected amounts of a large variety of chemical species have been observed in the gas phase. Adsorbed atoms and molecules also undergo chemical reactions which are not efficient in the gas phase. Therefore, the parameterization of the physical properties of atoms and molecules interacting with dust grain particles is clearly a key aspect to interpret astronomical observations and to build realistic and predictive astrochemical models. In this consensus evaluation, we focus on parameters controlling the thermal desorption of ices and how these determine pathways towards molecular complexity and define the location of snowlines, which ultimately influence the planet formation process. We review different crucial aspects of desorption parameters both from a theoretical and experimental point of view. We critically assess the desorption parameters commonly used in the astrochemical community for astrophysical relevant species and provide tables with recommended values. In addition, we show that a non-trivial determination of the pre-exponential factor nu using the Transition State Theory can affect the binding energy value. Finally, we conclude this work by discussing the limitations of theoretical and experimental approaches currently used to determine the desorption properties with suggestions for future improvements., Comment: 115 pages, 17 figures

X-ray photodesorption yields of $^{15}$N$_2$ and $^{13}$CO are derived as a function of the incident photon energy near the N ($\sim$400 eV) and O K-edge ($\sim$500 eV) for pure $^{15}$N$_2$ ice and mixed $^{13}$CO:$^{15}$N$_2$ ices. The photodesorption spectra from the mixed ices reveal an indirect desorption mechanism for which the desorption of $^{15}$N$_2$ and $^{13}$CO is triggered by the photo-absorption of respectively $^{13}$CO and $^{15}$N$_2$. This mechanism is confirmed by the X-ray photodesorption of $^{13}$CO from a layered $^{13}$CO/$^{15}$N$_2$ ice irradiated at 401 eV, on the N 1s$\rightarrow \pi^*$ transition of $^{15}$N$_2$. This latter experiment enables to quantify the relevant depth involved in the indirect desorption process, which is found to be 30 - 40 ML in that case. This value is further related to the energy transport of Auger electrons emitted from the photo-absorbing $^{15}$N$_2$ molecules that scatter towards the ice surface, inducing the desorption of $^{13}$CO. The photodesorption yields corrected from the energy that can participate to the desorption process (expressed in molecules desorbed by eV deposited) do not depend on the photon energy hence neither on the photo-absorbing molecule nor on its state after Auger decay. This demonstrates that X-ray induced electron stimulated desorption (XESD), mediated by Auger scattering, is the dominant process explaining the desorption of $^{15}$N$_2$ and $^{13}$CO from the ices studied in this work.

The main cause of premature deterioration of reinforced concrete structures is the corrosion of steel bars, induced by chloride ions (for example in marine environment). At the same time, environmental-induced degradations of concrete can also affect the structure, such as external sulphate attack leading to the formation of ettringite, inducing expansion inside the materials and finally degradation. In this paper, chloride ingress are studied for concretes and cement pastes or/and in presence of sulphate in chloride contact solution. The mixtures contain OPC alone or with SCM. SCMs are here pozzolanic materials (Fly Ash or Metakaolin) or alkali-activated materials such as ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS). The materials are put in contact with chloride solutions in presence of sulphate. This study focuses on the influence of the porous network on the apparent chloride diffusion coefficients, as well as on chloride binding isotherms which are obtained by the profile method. Various aspects of the microstructure and of the pore structure are investigated, by using Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry and 27Al NMR, in order to better understand the results obtained relatively to the apparent chloride diffusion coefficients and to the chloride binding. Results show the difference between the various microstructures of the materials and their consequences on chloride/sulphate ingress. In addition, chloride ingress increases when sulphates are present in the contact solution for all cement materials tested. It appears that presence of sulphate decrease chloride binding, thus explaining the results.

X-rays emitted from the central young stellar object (YSO) that irradiate interstellar ices in the disk, followed by the ejection of molecules in the gas phase, are a possible route to explain the abundances observed in the cold regions. This process, known as X-ray photodesorption, needs to be quantified for methanol-containing ices. We aim at experimentally measuring X-ray photodesorption yields of methanol and its photo-products from binary mixed ices: $^{13}$CO:CH$_3$OH ice and H$_2$O:CH$_3$OH ice. We irradiated these ices at 15 K with X-rays in the 525 - 570 eV range. The release of species in the gas phase was monitored by quadrupole mass spectrometry, and photodesorption yields were derived. For $^{13}$CO:CH$_3$OH ice, CH$_3$OH X-ray photodesorption yield is estimated to be 10$^{-2}$ molecule/photon at 564 eV. X-ray photodesorption of larger COMs, which can be attributed to either ethanol, dimethyl ether, and/or formic acid, is detected with a yield of 10$^{-3}$ molecule/photon. When methanol is mixed with water, X-ray photodesorption of methanol and of the previous COMs is not detected. X-ray induced chemistry, dominated by low-energy secondary electrons, is found to be the main mechanism that explains these results. We also provide desorption yields that are applicable to protoplanetary disk environments for astrochemical models. Photo-products such as CH$_4$, H$_2$CO, H$_2$O, CO$_2$ , and CO also desorb at increasing efficiency. X-ray photodesorption of larger COMs, which can be attributed to either ethanol, dimethyl ether, and/or formic acid, is also detected. The physical mechanisms at play are discussed and must likely involve the thermalization of Auger electrons in the ice, thus indicating that its composition plays an important role. Finally, we provide desorption yields applicable to protoplanetary disk environments for astrochemical models. The X-rays are shown to be a potential candidate to explain gas-phase abundances of methanol in disks. However, more relevant desorption yields derived from experiments on mixed ices are mandatory to properly support the role played by X-rays in nonthermal desorption of methanol (see paper II).

Skeletal muscle exhibits a high regenerative capacity, mainly due to the ability of satellite cells to replicate and differentiate in response to appropriate stimuli. Epigenetic control is effective at different stages of this process. It has been shown that the chromatin-remodeling factor HDAC4 is able to regulate satellite cell proliferation and commitment. However, its molecular targets are still uncovered. To explain the signaling pathways regulated by HDAC4 in satellite cells, we generated tamoxifen-inducible mice with conditional inactivation of HDAC4 in Pax7+ cells (HDAC4 KO mice). We found that the proliferation and differentiation of HDAC4 KO satellite cells were compromised, although similar amounts of satellite cells were found in mice. Moreover, we found that the inhibition of HDAC4 in satellite cells was sufficient to block the differentiation process. By RNA-sequencing analysis we identified P21 and Sharp1 as HDAC4 target genes. Reducing the expression of these target genes in HDAC4 KO satellite cells, we also defined the molecular pathways regulated by HDAC4 in the epigenetic control of satellite cell expansion and fusion.

Technological cooperation becomes necessary in extending technological application and improving market competitiveness, and thus, it is important to identify collaborative technologies that meet strategic purposes. This paper aims to construct a technological network based on the core terms derived from patent documents to help technology owners achieve such target. A four-step analytic framework is constructed, including: 1) community division, which allows the selection of cooperative technology to be controlled within a more relevant technical range; 2) indicator analysis that can be used to understand the technological situation within the community from three main aspects, i.e., degree, clustering coefficient and line weight; 3) the purpose of cooperation, which is an important basis for the selection of cooperative technology; and 4) technology selection, which is to combine cooperation purposes and indicator analysis to select technology. Finally, a case study on China's artificial intelligence (AI) technology is conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of this method, and the findings will help decision making in related AI fields.

The objective was to study the multidimensional nature of the relationship between adult obesity (OB) and socio-economic status (SES), using comprehensive indices of SES taken separately or synthesised in an overall index. A nationally representative sample of adults aged 18–79 years was taken from the French second National Individual Survey on Food Consumption (INCA 2) dietary survey (2006–07). Weight and height were measured and OB defined as BMI $ 30 kg/m2. SES variables were reported in questionnaires and included occupation, education and characteristics of household wealth. Composite indices of SES (household wealth and overall SES indices) were computed by correspondence analysis, and relationships with OB were investigated with logistic regression analysis. In total, 11·8 (95% CI 10·1, 13·4) % of French adults were obese, without significant difference by sex. While no significant relationship was observed in men, all SES indicators were inversely correlated to OB in women. Both education and the household wealth index were retained in the stepwise multivariate model, confirming that different socio-economic variables are not necessarily proxies of each other regarding the OB issue. On the other hand, ‘controlling for SES’ while including several measures of SES in multivariate models may lead to collinearity, and thus over-adjustment. A more integrative approach may be to derive a synthetic index by including the SES factors available in a given study. Beyond this methodological perspective, understanding how OB is related to the different dimensions of SES should help to target the more vulnerable groups and increase the effectiveness of prevention.

In this work we will develop the canonical structure of Podolsky's generalized electrodynamics on the null-plane. This theory has second-order derivatives in the Lagrangian function and requires a closer study for the definition of the momenta and canonical Hamiltonian of the system. On the null-plane the field equations also demand a different analysis of the initial-boundary value problem and proper conditions must be chosen on the null-planes. We will show that the constraint structure, based on Dirac formalism, presents a set of second-class constraints, which are exclusive of the analysis on the null-plane, and an expected set of first-class constraints that are generators of a U(1) group of gauge transformations. An inspection on the field equations will lead us to the generalized radiation gauge on the null-plane, and Dirac Brackets will be introduced considering the problem of uniqueness of these brackets under the chosen initial-boundary condition of the theory.

In this work we discuss the natural appearance of the Generalized Brackets in systems with non-involutive (equivalent to second class) constraints in the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. We show how a consistent geometric interpretation of the integrability conditions leads to the reduction of degrees of freedom of these systems and, as consequence, naturally defines a dynamics in a reduced phase space., Comment: 12 pages

In this work we analyze systems described by Lagrangians with higher order derivatives in the context of the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism for first order actions. Two different approaches are studied here: the first one is analogous to the description of theories with higher derivatives in the hamiltonian formalism according to [Sov. Phys. Journ. 26 (1983) 730; the second treats the case where degenerate coordinate are present, in an analogy to reference [Nucl. Phys. B 630 (2002) 509]. Several examples are analyzed where a comparison between both approaches is made.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the long-term effects of in utero exposure to magnesium sulphate for children whose mothers had pre-eclampsia. DESIGN: Assessment at 18 months of age for children whose mothers were recruited to the Magpie Trial (recruitment 1998-2001 ISRCTN 86938761), which compared magnesium sulphate with placebo. SETTING: Follow-up of children born at 125 centres in 19 countries across five continents. POPULATION: A total of 6922 children were born to women randomised before delivery at follow-up centres. Of these, 2271 were not included for logistic reasons and 168 were excluded (101 at a centre where <20% were contacted, 40 whose death or disability was due to a problem at conception or embryogenesis and 27 whose parent/s opted out). Therefore, 4483 children were included in follow-up, of whom 3283 (73%) were contacted. METHODS: Assessment by questionnaire, with interview and neurodevelopmental testing of selected children. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Death or neurosensory disability at age of 18 months. RESULTS: Of those allocated magnesium sulphate, 245/1635 (15.0%) were dead or had neurosensory disability at 18 months compared with 233/1648 (14.1%) allocated placebo (relative risk [RR] 1.06, 95% CI 0.90-1.25), and of survivors, 19/1409 (1.3%) had neurosensory disability at 18 months compared with 27/1442 (1.9%) (RR 0.72, 95% CI 0.40-1.29). There were no substantial differences in causes of death or in the risk of individual impairments or disabilities. CONCLUSIONS: The lower risk of eclampsia following prophylaxis with magnesium sulphate was not associated with a clear difference in the risk of death or disability for children at 18 months.

DESIGN: Assessment at 2-3 years after delivery for women recruited to the Magpie Trial (recruitment in 1998-2001, ISRCTN 86938761), which compared magnesium sulphate with placebo for pre-eclampsia. SETTING: Follow up after discharge from hospital at 125 centres in 19 countries across five continents. POPULATION: A total of 7927 women were randomised at the follow-up centres. Of these women, 2544 were not included for logistic reasons and 601 excluded (109 at a centre where <20% of women were contacted, 466 discharged without a surviving child and 26 opted out). Therefore, 4782 women were selected for follow-up, of whom 3375 (71%) were traced. METHODS: Questionnaire assessment was administered largely by post or in a dedicated clinic. Interview assessment of selected women was performed. Main outcome measures Death or serious morbidity potentially related to pre-eclampsia at follow up, other morbidity and use of health service resources. RESULTS: Median time from delivery to follow up was 26 months (interquartile range 19-36). Fifty-eight of 1650 (3.5%) women allocated magnesium sulphate died or had serious morbidity potentially related to pre-eclampsia compared with 72 of 1725 (4.2%) women allocated placebo (relative risk 0.84, 95% CI 0.60-1.18). CONCLUSIONS: The reduction in the risk of eclampsia following prophylaxis with magnesium sulphate was not associated with an excess of death or disability for the women after 2 years.

We analyse systems described by first order actions using the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) formalism for singular systems. In this study we verify that generalized brackets appear in a natural way in HJ approach, showing us the existence of a symplectic structure in the phase spaces of this formalism.

Neutron cross-section sets have been prepared for 16 elements or isotopes for neutron energies from 0.037 ev to 18 Mev. The cross sections tabulated include the total, elastic, inelastic, (n,2n), and fission cross sections, as well as cross sections for charged particle emission. Information is also given on the angular distribution of elastically scattered neutrons and on the energy distribution of neutrons and gamma rays following nonelastic scattering.
