Camden (1805-1891) Papers, 1784-1958, undated. Papers of Judge Gideon D. Camden (1805-1891) of Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia, and papers of his grandson Wilson Lee Camden (1870-1958). Gideon D. Camden was a lawyer, Democratic politician, member of the Virginia Convention of 1850-1851, circuit judge, and state senator (1872-1876). His papers include correspondence, legal and business papers, surveys and plats, and printed material. Subjects include Virginia, West Virginia, and national politics; the railroad, oil, timber, and coal industries; and Camden's law practice. Wilson Lee Camden papers include correspondence, legal papers, surveys and plats, printed material, business manuscripts, photographs, map, and ledgers. Subjects include the settlement of his grandfather's estate, and extensive coal, timber, land, railroad, and oil interests in West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania. The S. Floyd Mori papers (1962-2005) contain correspondence, scrapbooks, student papers, meeting minutes, reports, memos, brochures, pamphlets, and memorabilia related to Mori's activities with the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). Also included are documents related to his tenure as a California State Assemblyman.

The Robert Alan Goldberg papers (1880-2019) house materials gathered by Goldberg while researching information for his books, Back to the Soil: The Jewish Farmers of Clarion, Utah, and Their World, Grassroots Resistance: Social Movements in Twentieth Century America, Enemies Within: The Culture of Conspiracy in Modern America, Hooded Empire: The Ku Klux Klan in Colorado, and Barry Goldwater., The materials for the book, Back to the Soil: The Jewish Farmers of Clarion, Utah and Their World, are housed in boxes 1-4. Clarion was a Jewish agricultural settlement which existed from 1912 to 1915, with the last members leaving in the 1920s. It was led by Benjamin Brown and other Jewish immigrants from the Pale of Russia and Poland. The colony received homestead land from the state of Utah and tried to establish an agricultural Jewish community near Gunnison in Sanpete County. The small community failed shortly after being established because of poor soil, lack of water, physical hardships, and discontent among its members. Box 1 includes the initial research proposal, and the diaries, monographs, and transcripts of interviews used to form the basis of the book. Most of these papers are in Yiddish with English translations, and were written by the leaders of the agriculture experiment. Box 2 holds two drafts of Goldberg's book. Boxes 3-4 contain correspondence with and written recollections from the survivors of Clarion and or their family members. This material is organized alphabetically by family name., The materials for Grassroots Resistance: Social Movements in Twentieth Century America are housed in boxes 5-21. They consist of brochures, newsletters, newspapers, and membership applications from activist groups. Magazine articles and news clippings about the activities of these academic, political, religious, and or radical organizations from the 1960s-1970s era are also included. Some of the groups represented are the National Socialist White People's Party, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Christian Anti-Communists Crusade, Clergy and Laymen Concerned about Vietnam, the National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy, the National Organization for Women, and the Rainbow Family of Living Light. Box 5 has material on African American history and the civil rights movement from 1968 to 1972. Boxes 6-14 contain information on the various activist groups and are arranged alphabetically by group name. Box 15 houses information on activist causes prevalent in the United States during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Boxes 16-20 hold 110 different newspapers from this same era. The newspapers are from Cuba, China, Vietnam, and the activist syndicated underground press, as well as some established American newspapers. The newspaper publications are listed in alphabetical order by their published trade name with a cross reference to the publishing organization in the folder description. Addenda to the collection includes other research and general materials.

Papers of Henry Samuel Baird, an attorney of Green Bay, Wisconsin, active in Territorial politics and Indian affairs, and his wife and other family members. Correspondence, business records, speeches and writings, clippings, and other materials concern the fur trade, Indians, the Civil War draft, Peshtigo fire relief, real estate transactions, genealogy, and family matters., Among the papers are Baird's memoranda on the trial of Oshkosh, 1830; two muster rolls of companies of Menominee Indians, 1832; some correspondence, 1848-1850, on the reoccupation of Fort Howard and the return of the Winnebago to the upper Wisconsin River; a few items on Stockbridge Indian affairs and on the fur trade and traders; papers accumulated by Baird as draft commissioner during the Civil War; 3 school copybooks; and some reminiscent articles on Wisconsin history., Among the business and professional papers are letters from Henry R. Schoolcraft, Eleazer Williams, Ramsay Crooks (one in 1842 describing the death of Joseph Rolette), from Crooks' sons, Ramsay, Jr. of New York City and William of St. Paul, concerning the disposition of their father's property at Green Bay, and from William Astor, 1861-1863, relating to Astor land at Green Bay. Henry Dodge and Horace Rublee are other correspondents., The large quantity of personal family correspondence includes photostats of letters exchanged by Baird and his future wife during their courtship; about three dozen letters written by his father, Henry Baird, while he was living at Cleveland, Ohio, from 1822 to 1832, and in 1835-1836 when he was employed by the government to teach farming methods to the Indians at Neenah (Winnebago Rapids), Wisconsin, and letters written in 1836 by Henry S. Baird to his wife and to his father describing the sessions of the territorial legislature meeting at Belmont. There are also letters addressed to Mrs. Baird from the wives and sisters of officers who had been stationed at Fort Howard for brief periods. Mrs. Baird's own letters, frequently written in French, depict frontier living conditions in Green Bay and other Wisconsin communities, and family correspondence of later dates reflects the changes in social and political life which occurred as the state became more populated. Other correspondence of Mrs. Baird concerns relief for victims in the forest fires of 1871., Additional papers of members of their families include many written during the first quarter of the nineteenth century concerning Mackinac Island, Michigan. Among them are more than two dozen papers of Madame Madeleine Laframboise, written mainly in French. These include rosters, 1814, 1817, and 1819, of Captain Benjamin K. Pierce's company, which was stationed at Fort Mackinac; one letter written by the Reverend Francois V. Badin in 1833 and others regarding early Catholic missionary work in the Northwest; several from Antoine Dequindre and from other business and social acquaintances in Detroit; and a number from her nephew Alexis Laframboise, in Montreal, and her son Joseph. Other letters, 1834-1853, were written by Joseph to his cousin Mrs. Baird from his fur-trading post at Little Rock on the Minnesota River and from other stations. Genealogical information are the Tenney family and the Grignon family is present.
