- Abstract
The Jane Hayward Papers contain a varied assortment of archival materials that document the career of stained glass scholar and Cloisters curator Jane Hayward (1918-1994). The bulk of the collection comprises correspondence, research notes, and typescript and handwritten drafts of various lectures and publications written in association with her work at the Cloisters and Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as with the International Center of Medieval Art, the Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi, and the Census on American Stained Glass. Documents relating to her years teaching, particularly at Columbia University, are well represented, including numerous papers by students, many of whom went on to be active in Medieval art studies. Her extensive travels, personal correspondence, and some private papers are also featured.
