Bittencourt was co-founder and publisher of Correio da Manha ("Morning Post"), one of Rio's leading newspapers, which was published from 1901 until it was shut down by the Brazilian government in 1974. Bittencourt’s wife, Niomar Moniz Sodre, director of Rio's Museum of Modern Art, accompanies him at the right. Knight's wife, Betty, can be seen partially obscured at the extreme left.

Jack Searle was probably John Gideon "Jack" Searle (1901-1978), an American heir, businessman, and philanthropist who served as vice president and general manager of his family's pharmaceutical company G. D. Searle & Company (often referred to as Searle and now known as G.D. Searle, LLC, a wholly owned trademark of Pfizer) that is most notable for having developed the first female birth control pill and the artificial sweetener NutraSweet.
