Most families can access a range of health information and advice. Information and advice sources often include nurses, the Internet, social media, books, as well as family and friends. While the immediate aim may be to find information, it can also be to assist with parenting skills, solve parenting problems or as part of decision-making processes about their child's health. These processes are strongly influenced by the parent's level of health literacy. Health literacy describes a person's capacity to obtain and utilize health related information. Although there are numerous health literacy definitions all have clearly defined steps. These steps are: obtaining relevant information; then understanding this information; and finally being able to use the information to achieve the expected outcome. Previous research has linked low levels of parental health literacy with poorer child health outcomes. Given this link, increasing health literacy levels would be advantageous for both families and health services. Nurses working with families are in a position to support the family to increase their health literacy through the use of a variety of strategies. Background Internationally, there is concern about the increased prescribing of pharmaceutical opioids for chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP). In part, this is related to limited knowledge about the long-term benefits and outcomes of opioid use for CNCP. There has also been increased injection of some pharmaceutical opioids by people who inject drugs, and for some patients, the development of problematic and/or dependent use. To date, much of the research on the use of pharmaceutical opioids among people with CNCP, have been clinical trials that have excluded patients with complex needs, and have been of limited duration (i.e. fewer than 12 weeks). The Pain and Opioids In Treatment (POINT) study is unique study that aims to: 1) examine patterns of opioid use in a cohort of patients prescribed opioids for CNCP; 2) examine demographic and clinical predictors of adverse events, including opioid abuse or dependence, medication diversion, other drug use, and overdose; and 3) identify factors predicting poor pain relief and other outcomes. Methods/Design The POINT cohort comprises around 1,500 people across Australia prescribed pharmaceutical opioids for CNCP. Participants will be followed-up at four time points over a two year period. POINT will collect information on demographics, physical and medication use history, pain, mental health, drug and alcohol use, non-adherence, medication diversion, sleep, and quality of life. Data linkage will provide information on medications and services from Medicare (Australia's national health care scheme). Data on those who receive opioid substitution therapy, and on mortality, will be linked. Discussion This study will rigorously examine prescription opioid use among CNCP patients, and examine its relationship to important health outcomes. The extent to which opioids for chronic pain is associated with pain reduction, quality of life, mental and physical health, aberrant medication behavior and substance use disorders will be extensive

It has long been recognised that a key control in the management of heat stress is the education of the worker in relation to the impact of the many variables in a hot environment. For too many years the use of one parameter, the air temperature, has been the focal point of the general workforce as the measure of heat stress. Whilst there have been many tools and training materials available, most have relied on a formal training program or complicated assessments. The Basic Thermal Risk Assessment (BTRA) was introduced via the AIOH heat stress standard in 2003 as a first level assessment and was originally developed as a training tool. However over the years it has evolved in a different direction. The review and modification of this tool in the latest AIOH Heat Stress Guide began its journey back to its original intent. In early 2014 a question was posed on a Heat Stress forum discussion: "If you had a Heat Stress App for your workers, what would you want it to tell them?" This triggered a chain of events that led to the development of the Thermal Risk App. This is its story.

The films are soft, lightweight, mechanically robust and highly electrically conductivity. The electrochemical performance of the free-standing pure PPy electrode was improved by incorporating the most promising cathode material, LiFePO4, into the PPy films. The cell with PPy-LiFePO4 composite film had a higher discharge capacity beyond 50 cycles (80 mA h/g) than that of the cell with pure PPy (60 mA h/g). The free-standing films can be used as electrode materials to satisfy the new market demand for flexible and bendable batteries that are suitable for the various types of design and power needs of soft portable electronic equipment.

Editorial - Well, it’s been some kind of journey, but here it is; issue six of Paper, Rock! Looking back we realise some of it could’ve been done differently to make the final trek a little smoother. I’m sure you’re all-too-familiar with the feeling of longing for the past time you let slip away so you could avoid gulping down your 3rd Redbull at one a.m. to meet your deadline tomorrow. It’s somewhat nostalgic, which is the theme for this issue. Issue six takes you through the University of Wollongong’s past 60 years, looks into the effects of BlueScope and where Port Kembla is turning to beyond the steel industry, and gives insight into the horrific cruelty that is, puppy farming. Editorial - Well, it’s been some kind of journey, but here it is; issue six of Paper, Rock! Looking back we realise some of it could’ve been done differently to make the final trek a little smoother. I’m sure you’re all-too-familiar with the feeling of longing for the past time you let slip away so you could avoid gulping down your 3rd Redbull at one a.m. to meet your deadline tomorrow. It’s somewhat nostalgic, which is the theme for this issue. Issue six takes you through the University of Wollongong’s past 60 years, looks into the effects of BlueScope and where Port Kembla is turning to beyond the steel industry, and gives insight into the horrific cruelty that is, puppy farming. You will find fresh fashion ideas, the best Wollongong dessert locales, prime (yet cheap) holiday spots in our own backyard, an upcoming local major music festival and so much more. The annual Underground Coal Operators' Conference (UCOC) has been held at the University of Wollongong since 1998. In February 2010 it celebrated its 10th anniversary. During that period a total of 332 conference papers were published within the ten printed volumes of proceedings. From December 2008 digital copies were made available online via the UCOC website (http://ro.uow.edu.au/coal) within the University of Wollongong’s open access repository Research Online (http://ro.uow.edu.au). The UCOC website is linked to other relevant sites available to mining engineering researchers at Wollongong and all papers are easily located through an internal search engine, using author, title and keyword searches. Download of individual conference papers is free of charge and usage statistics are monitored by the conference conveners. Since going live, visitors to the site from more than 130 countries have downloaded over 85 000 individual conference papers. Online availability has greatly improved access for students, researchers and mine professionals world-wide. It has also enhanced the reputation of the University of Wollongong as the centre of excellence in teaching and research in mining engineering, with a keen interest in promoting mining technology nationally and internationally. This paper discusses the national and international impact of free online access to the UCOC papers.

Designers want to address these needs when presenting their work for consideration and acknowledge there is a responsibility to consider sustainability issues and applications in the areas of paper, printing, formats, materials, inks, and executions. (1) I am currently inspired to explore various printing surfaces and their paradoxical materiality. This exploration comes from my experience as a graphic designer and connection to the world of commercial offset printing, where often I find the medium and the message are at odds. Printing technology and its growth in the last century, along with consumer driven design thinking contributes enormously to the current world we live in along with the by products - waste, packaging, paper misuse, and energy consumption. These works are the beginnings of my exploration into the opportunity designers have to bring problem solving, and awareness. However, too little is known of how refugee youth encounter school in their new country. This article draws upon individual narratives of young former refugee's experiences of high schools. It explores the stories told by the young people of being identified as different and of negotiating ways of belonging in schools both academically and socially. It argues that it is how the school positions the newly arrived refugee students within mainstream school culture that opens up or restricts opportunities for inclusion in all aspects of school (in culture and pedagogy).

The Workshop on Hierarchical Modeling in Environmental Statistics (WHIES) was held on May 14-16, 2000 at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. During WHIES, break-out discussion groups met on several occasions to consider questions posed, in advance, on hierarchical modeling in environmental statistics. Each discussion-group leader prepared a draft of their discussion and these have been combined into the position paper given below.

Objective: To discuss the experience of developing approaches to measuring the quality of nursing documentation in residential aged care homes. Methods: Three information sources were reviewed to explore approaches in auditing nursing documentation: the current literature, relevant Australian legislative and professional requirements, and organizational nursing documentation practice. Results: Approaches suggested by the literature were mainly focused on three dimensions of nursing documentation: structure and format, process and content. The detailed standards of nursing documentation have been identified by reviewing the relevant Australian legislative and professional requirements and recommendations, and organizational nursing documentation practice. A nursing documentation audit instrument has been constructed, using relevant quality criteria derived from the three information sources. Face validation and content validation of the instrument were conducted. The validity of the instrument was established, with a high level of consensus among aged care staff. The instrument is being tested to verify its applicability and reliability through a pilot study. Conclusion: A systematic document analysis on published studies, local legislative and professional requirements and aged care organizational nursing documentation practice has been conducted to develop a validated nursing documentation audit instrument. It is anticipated that the instrument will not only serve the purpose of collecting data for a research project, but also be useful as an auditing tool for nursing documentation in Australian residential aged care facilities.

Over the last 30 years there has been considerable research associated with supply related matters. Even though there has been much activity no one has attempted to define and explore ‘supply’ in and of itself. By observation it would appear that approximately 80% of the activities relates to ‘Supply Chain’ and its various constructs some of the more significant ones being: Supply Chain Management (SCM), Supply Chain Performance (SCP), Supply Chain Orientation (SCO) and Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM). This paper will outline what has been found in the extant literature. It highlights the fact that consensus of definitions has not been reached and this could be a consequence of not exploring the most fundamental construct of ‘supply’. After exploring and analysing what does exist it then goes on to discuss some of the challenges that exist and some key omissions that could help to define future research initiatives.

The Regulation will come into force on 1 January 2010. The Regulation has the following major implications for the Australian seafood export industry: a. All consignments of wild caught fish and fish product (with exceptions) will be prohibited from being imported into European Union Member States, unless a catch certificate accompanies them. The catch certificate must contains the harvest details of the fish (e.g. vessel and master’s name and number, fishing licence number, date and location of capture, landing weights, details of processing on board) in addition to export, import and transport details. b. Australian authorities are to validate catch certificates and in doing so, have the power to provide such validation and attest to the veracity of the catch certificate. c. Australia is to provide prior notification to the EC certifying its arrangements with respect to conservation and management measures which must be complied with by its fishing vessels. d. Australia will be required to verify consignments and associated catch certificates where the importing State doubts its legitimacy and will also need to be prepared for ‘on-the-spot audits’ of its catch certification and validation process.

How spoken words arc written is a corc concern in collaborative Indigenous life writing. Especially imporram, as Kimberly Blaeser notes in the citation above, are the efforts to present Indigenous narratives in a visual form that will facilitate their fe-speaking. Mindful of this goal, my argument will concentrate on (he panicular dilemma of presenting Indigenous narratives in paragraph form or formatting them in an arrangement resembling poetic lin es. While aware that this is bur one of many considerations in the process of transforming speech to writing, I argue that in a number of Indigenous li fe-writing publications it is a crucial decision, and one with significant repercussions that warrant this focused approach.
