Background: Cancer care can negatively impact children's subjective well-being. In this research, well-being refers to patients' self-perception and encompasses their hospital and care delivery assessment. Playful strategies can stimulate treatment compliance and have been used to provide psychosocial support and health education; they can involve gamification, virtual reality, robotics, and healthcare environments. This study aims to identify how playfulness, whenever applicable, can be used as a strategy to improve the subjective well-being of pediatric cancer patients in the Brazilian Unified Health System., Methods: Sixteen volunteers with experience in pediatric oncology participated in the study. They were physicians, psychologists, child life specialists, and design thinking professionals. They engaged in design thinking workshops to propose playful strategies to improve the well-being of pediatric cancer patients in the Brazilian Unified Health System. Data collection consisted of participatory observations. All activities were video recorded and analyzed through Thematic Analysis. The content generated by the volunteers was classified into two categories: impact of cancer care on children's self-perception and children's perceptions of the hospital and the care delivery., Results: Volunteers developed strategies to help children deal with time at the hospital, hospital structure, and care delivery. Such strategies are not limited to using playfulness as a way of "having fun"; they privilege ludic interfaces, such as toys, to support psychosocial care and health education. They aim to address cancer and develop communication across families and staff in a humanized manner, educate families about the disease, and design children-friendly environments. Volunteers also generated strategies to help children cope with perceptions of death, pain, and their bodies. Such strategies aim to support understanding the meaning of life and death, comprehend pain beyond physicality, help re-signify cancer and children's changing bodies, and give patients active voices during the treatment., Conclusions: The paper proposes strategies that can improve the well-being of pediatric cancer patients in the Brazilian Unified Health System. Such strategies connect children's experiences as inpatients and outpatients and may inform the implementation of similar projects in other developing countries., (© 2021. The Author(s).)

This research aimed to assess the influence of dietary addition of rutin on inflammation, apoptosis and antioxidative responses in muscle of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila (A. hydrophila). Fish were split into four groups as follows: control, 0.15% rutin, A. hydrophila, 0.15% rutin + A. hydrophila. After 2 weeks of feeding with standard or rutin diets, fish were challenged or not with A. hydrophila for 1 week. Rutin-added diet abrogates A. hydrophila induced-hemorrhage and inflammatory infiltration. It decreases A. hydrophila induced-apoptosis through decreasing the ratio of Bax to Bcl-2 and increasing phospho-Akt to Akt ratio. It diminishes the A. hydrophila induced-rise in nitric oxide and superoxide anion levels and reestablishes superoxide dismutase activity as well. Although such diet is unable to recover the levels of reduced glutathione (GSH), cysteine and glutamate cysteine ligase, which are depleted as a result of A. hydrophila infection, it diminishes the oxidized glutathione (GSSG) content, thus decreasing GSSG to GSH ratio. It increases the levels of cysteine residues of proteins and diminishes those of thiol-protein mixed disulfides, which were changed after A. hydrophila challenge. Finally, it reduces A. hydrophila induced-lipid peroxidation, markedly elevates ascorbic acid and thus reestablishes total antioxidant capacity, whose levels were decreased after A. hydrophila challenge. In conclusion, the dietary addition of rutin at 0.15% impairs A. hydrophila-induced inflammatory response, inhibits A. hydrophila-induced apoptosis and promotes cell survival. It also reduces the A. hydrophila-induced oxidative stress and stimulates the antioxidative responses in muscle of A. hydrophila-infected silver catfish., (Copyright © 2019. This is a cross-sectional study that aims to identify the prevalence of lower independent living skills and their associations in 390 users of psychiatric community-based services in the state Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. For tracing the outcome it was used the "scale Independent Living Skills Survey", adopting a cut-off value lower than 2. The crude and adjusted analyses were conducted on binary logistic regressions and they considered a hierarchical model developed through a systematic literature review. In adjusted analysis the level of the same variables were adjusted to each other and to previous levels. The statistical significance remained as a < 0.05 p-value. The prevalence of smaller independent living skills was 33% and their associations were: younger age; no partner; lower education; resident at SRT; diagnosis of schizophrenia and younger diagnosis.

Objective to know the perception of men of the experience of parenting during adolescence. Method a qualitative study conducted with five men who experienced paternity during adolescence. Data were collected by means of in-depth interviews at the homes of the subjects in August 2013, in a city of southern Brazil. The data were analysed with the theoretical model of Urie Bronfenbrenner. Results paternity in adolescence was a coming of age experience that triggered reflection on the role of the father and his duties. The referenced microsystem was the family and it influenced the development of parenthood. Paternity has implications during adolescence and repercussions throughout the lives of the subjects. Conclusion it is important to introduce the topic of fatherhood in the health and education systems in order for adolescents to exercise parenting in a healthy manner. Nursing plays an important role because it can assist this population and target attention toward the singularities of parenthood.

The objective of this cross-sectional study is to analyze the relationship between minor psychiatric disorders, burden and other associated factors among family caregivers of people with mental disorders. The study was conducted with 1164 relatives of users of the Centers for Psychosocial Care in southern Brazil, and for screening of minor psychiatric disorders, the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ20) scale was used, based on its Brazilian validation with an adopted cutoff point of 6/8. Even though previous studies have appointed the burden arising from care as protagonist in the presentation of minor psychiatric disorders, a clustering based on log-likelihood by Bayesian Information Criterion conducted in this study found that burden is not the only possible predictor for emotional/mental illness, suggesting that other factors permeate this relationship. Thus, bivariate analyzes were conducted, in which the influence of variables such as health problems, work issues, among others, can be observed in different groups arranged by the cluster.

Objective: To describe the prevalence and to analyze the factors associated with hearing problems in an agricultural company., Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, and the participants consisted entirely of employees of an agricultural company in southern Brazil. The workforce of the company was composed of several different occupations. The research instrument was a semi-structured questionnaire administered by interview., Results: Of the 326 workers of the company, there were 273 (83.8%) respondents, and the prevalence of hearing problems was n = 42 (15.4%) among the participants of the study. The hearing problems were associated with lower schooling, with the operating occupational group, the technical assistance group and the general services group. The self-reported health conditions associated with hearing problems were depression and nervousness or irritation. The occupational exposures associated with hearing problems were noise, dust, vibration, oils and solvents, and toxic gases., Conclusion: There was an intermediate prevalence of hearing problems in relation to other studies. It was possible to observe the need to implement strategies aiming at the prevention of hearing problems that primarily contemplate modifiable aspects, such as the use of personal protective equipment, as well as improvements in the conditions, organization and work environment.

This cross-sectional study aims to assess through analysis of data suggested by the Social Behavior Schedule (SBS) quantitatively and qualitatively distinguishing between the limitations of social interaction presented by users of substitute services. Analyses were performed of 385 instruments applied to users of Therapeutic Residential Services (SRT) and the Centers for Psychosocial Care (CAPS). Twenty-one items from the Social Behaviour Schedule (SBS, BR). The data indicate that the individuals studied had from zero to 15 social behavior problems, with an average of 2.5 problems per service user with a standard deviation of 2.84. The majority of the sample appeared to have 1-2 problems among those identified by the scale, and the nonspecific behaviors are present in greater proportion in both services, followed by panic attacks among CAPS users and problems with personal appearance and hygiene in SRT users. In this way, the use of tools that make it possible to assess the data on the social aspects of the psychological distress deserves to be encouraged as a way to further research in this area, and rethink ways of effecting social reintegration of these individuals.

The aim of the study was to analyze temporal trends of physical activity among staff workers in Centers for Psychosocial Care and associated factors in southern Brazil from 2006 to 2011. This cross-sectional study was part of the Evaluation of Centers for Psychosocial Care in Southern Brazil/CAPSUL. Physical and mental health variables were collected using the Self-Report Questionnaire (SRQ-20), and physical activity was measured with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Participation included 435 staff workers in 2006 and 546 in 2011. Total prevalence rates were: physical activity (≥ 150 minutes/week) 23.2% in 2006 and 17.6% in 2011 and minor psychiatric disorders 11% and 8.4%. There was no statistically significant difference in physical activity between men and women. In 2006, individuals with less schooling (p = 0.03) and lower income (p = 0.01) showed higher levels of physical activity. In 2011, staff workers in larger cities showed higher levels of physical activity (p = 0.02). Interventions are needed to promote physical activity in this population, especially among staff workers at Centers for Psychosocial Care in smaller municipalities.

Objectives: to analyze the prevalence of satisfaction at work and identify associated factors in Psychosocial Care Centers., Method: cross-sectional study involving 546 workers from 40 Psychosocial Care Centers in the South of Brazil. The satisfaction was identified based on the Assessment Scale of Satisfaction in the Mental Health Team and a logistic regression model was used for the adjusted data analysis., Results: the prevalence of satisfaction at work corresponded to 66.4%. Factors directly associated with satisfaction: higher-level function (except physicians and psychologists), work time of six months or less, making a larger number of home visits, good supervision by the team, possibility to make collective choices and take courses., Conclusions: the satisfaction is associated with the work organization and conditions and demonstrates the need to invest in team supervisions, in process that democratize the services and in the workers' training.

Mental health problems are among the most prevalent conditions in health workers. We evaluated the prevalence of minor psychiatric disorders and associated factors among primary healthcare workers. The study design was cross-sectional and services-based, in 240 primary healthcare units in 41 municipalities (counties) with more than 100 thousand inhabitants in seven States in the South and Northeast regions of Brazil. A total of 4,749 primary healthcare workers were interviewed, and prevalence of minor psychiatric disorders was 16%, with no statistical differences according to region or primary care model. The rate was higher in community health workers and other workers with secondary education (18%) and lower in health professionals with university training (10%); while physicians (15%) and nurses and nurse technicians (14.6%) were in an intermediate situation (p < 0.001). Occupational characteristics showed the strongest association with the occurrence of minor psychiatric disorders according to the adjusted analysis, suggesting that their reduction requires improvements in work conditions in primary healthcare and in the management of the Unified National Health System.

A cross-sectional study was conducted with 936 family caregivers of users of Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) with the aim of describing the prevalence of minor psychiatric disorders and the association with socio-demographic variables, self-reported overload, and stressful events. Minor psychiatric disorder was identified with the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20), using as case definition a cutoff of eight or more positive answers for women and six or more for men. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted by Poisson regression. Prevalence of minor psychiatric disorders was 49% (95%CI: 46%-52%). In the adjusted analysis, higher prevalence was observed in families with less schooling, health problems, more stressful life events, retirees, and single caregivers who reported overload. The results indicate a high prevalence of minor psychiatric disorders, besides identifying some associations. Such information provides important support for planning mental health services and primary care.

The description of the supply and use of psychotropic drugs at the Centers for Psychosocial Care (CAPS) is relevant for the effectiveness of assistance from mental health services. The objective was to describe the use and supply of these drugs in CAPS types I and II, in Southern Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study, in which surveys were conducted, in May and June 2006, on the structural aspects of the referred service using charts of 1162 users, and self-applied questionnaires answered by 30 engineers working at CAPS where these users were being monitored. Users were identified as mostly female, adult, middle-aged, low economic status, mainly with a diagnosis of major depression and using antidepressants. It was also found that there might be a lack of distribution and supply of psychotropic drugs in the public health system (SUS) network, which affects the drug therapy of this specialized mental health service, given the socioeconomic conditions of the users.

This work is part of a research for evaluation of the Expansion and Consolidation of Family Health Program (PROESF). This is a study with a qualitative approach, developed in a unit of family health seen as successful experience in relation to the organization to integral care, located in a city of medium size. This article tried to approach the integrality of care with an emphasis on the team work, to identify in the daily practices, the potential and limits to enable the integration. The instruments used were semi-structured interviews with eight members of staff and observations diary recorded in a field. It was verified the existence of alternative practices that escape from the traditional model, considered as completeness potentiators. However obstacles were also highlighted to the integrality such as difficulty of access for users to certain specialties and lack of reception in the service.

This article deals with a subproject of the Project for Evaluation of the CAPS psychosocial care centers (CAPS) in the southern region of Brazil, whose purpose was to learn how the professionals of a substitute service feel about of the mental care delivered there. The study was conducted in a CAPS II using a qualitative approach. Data were collected in interviews. The data were classified into three thematic groups and analyzed according to the available literature. In this article we will approach the understanding of the professionals about the care services offered in the CAPS. The results show that for these professionals care involves more than the biological aspects, including the family and society. We perceive that the team is extending its perception of mental health, when considering psychosocial rehabilitation the most important aspect.
