At first, a novel graphene oxide-based magnetic nanocomposite namely Si-propyl-functionalized N 1 , N 1 , N 2 , N 2 -tetramethylethylenediamine- N 1 , N 2 -diium hydrogen sulfate anchored to graphene oxide-supported Fe 3 O 4 (nano-[GO@Fe 3 O 4 @R-NHMe 2 ][HSO 4 ]) was fabricated. After full characterization of the nanocomposite, its catalytic performance was examined for the solvent-free construction of N , N '-alkylidene bisamides from aryl aldehydes (1 eq.) and primary aromatic and aliphatic amides (2 eq.), in which the products were acquired in short times (15-30 min) and high to excellent yields (89-98%). Nano-[GO@Fe 3 O 4 @R-NHMe 2 ][HSO 4 ] could be magnetically isolated form the reaction medium, and reused three times without remarkable loss of catalytic activity., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts to mention., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.)

3-Methyl-1-sulfonic acid imidazolium nitrate ([Msim]NO(3)) as a new Brønsted acidic ionic liquid and nitrating agent was prepared and used for the efficient nitration of aromatic compounds (even aniline derivatives). The dramatic effect of this reagent by in situ generation of nitrogen dioxide as a radical on aromatic compounds to give nitroarenes has been studied.

A simple, clean and highly efficient method for the preparation of polyhydroxyl aromatic compounds is described from the reaction of 2,6-bis(methylol)phenols and different substituted phenols in the presence of silica sulfuric acid (SSA) as a heterogeneous catalyst. SSA afforded the clean synthesis of target compounds in much higher yields than traditional catalysts. The established method is also suitable for the synthesis of phloroglucinol derivatives (Phloroglucides) and other polyhydric phenols. Besides the easy work-up of the reaction mixture, the comfortable purification of the products is another advantage of this method.

A catalyst-free one-pot four component methodology for the synthesis of 1,2,4,5-substituted imidazoles under conventional heating and microwave irradiation using 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, [Bmim]Br, as a neutral reaction media is described. A broad range of structurally diverse aldehydes (aromatic aldehydes bearing electron withdrawing and/or electron releasing groups as well as heteroaromatic aldehydes) and primary amines (aromatic and aliphatic) were applied successfully, and corresponding products were obtained in good to excellent yields without any byproduct.
