Purpose: To investigate limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) in patients surgically treated for ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN)., Methods: This retrospective case-control study investigated clinical and histological data from patients with OSSN surgically treated in a referral center., Results: The study included 98 patients (58 male, 40 female) with a mean age of 61.1 (23-86) years. Less than 3 clock hours were involved by OSSN in 48 eyes (49.0%), 3-6 clock hours in 32 eyes (32.7%), 6-9 clock hours in 12 eyes (12.2%), and more than 9 clock hours in 6 eyes (6.1%). Limbal stem cell deficiency was identified in 36 patients (36.7%) after surgery. The severity of LSCD was mild in 17 eyes, moderate in 11, and severe in 8. The prevalence of LSCD increased significantly in groups with 6 clock hours or more of OSSN involvement (p < 0.001). The affected limbal side (superior, inferior, nasal, or temporal) had no significant association with the prevalence of LSCD (p = 0.869). Patients with recurrent OSSN had a higher LSCD prevalence (p = 0.003). The higher the tumor stage, the more likely it was to develop LSCD (p < 0.001). Patients with corneal involvement were also more likely to develop LSCD (p = 0.021). The prevalence of LSCD was raised with increasing histopathological grade (p = 0.019). Furthermore, solely the number of clock hours affected by OSSN was an independent risk factor in multivariate analyses (p < 0.001)., Conclusions: The size and severity of OSSN and the presence of recurrent OSSN are associated with an increased likelihood of developing LSCD. A 14-year-old girl presented with a facial-pigmented lesion suspicious of melanoma clinically and dermoscopically. In vivo, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) findings excluded melanoma by revealing typical epidermal honeycomb and cobblestone patterns. Well-defined follicular contours were seen at the dermal-epidermal junction; there were no elongated, "medusa head-like" follicular protrusions or folliculotropism, which are classical findings seen in lentigo maligna. Objectives: In this study, we aimed to define demographic data and trends in use of amniotic membrane transplant during the past decade at a tertiary eye center., Materials and Methods: We included 272 patients who underwent amniotic membrane transplant for ocular surface pathology from January 2009 to December 2021. We retrospectively evaluated the medical data., Results: The male-to-female ratio of patients was 41/23. Mean age of the patients was 50 ± 23.6 years (range, 1-91 years). Indications consisted of ocular surface lesion excision surgery (n = 184; 66.7%), chemical injury (n = 25; 9.1%), persistent epithelial defect (n = 23; 8.3%), keratitis (n = 22; 8%), noninfectious corneal perforation (n = 9; 3.3%), bullous keratopathy (n = 9; 3.3%), and ocular cicatricial pemphigoid (n = 4; 1.4%). Single amniotic membrane transplant was applied to 236 patients (85.5%), and multiple transplant was applied to 40 patients (14.5%). We observed repeated amniotic membrane transplant rates and amniotic membrane degradation durations that were associated with primary disease (P = .005 and P < .001, respectively). Degradation time was shorter in cases of chemical burns and keratitis than in cases after ocular surface lesion excision. Amniotic membrane transplant indication rates were statistically different between the first 6 years and the last 6 years of the 12 years of data (P = .041). The frequency of amniotic membrane transplant application in microbial keratitis has increased substantially in the past 2 years., Conclusions: Amniotic membrane is used as a biomaterial in various ocular surface diseases due to its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties. After transplant, the amniotic membrane, which is directly related to the inflam-matory processes of the primary disease, degrades gradually. There may be changes in the trend of amniotic membrane transplant, the indications of which are progressively expanding over time.

Background: Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare inherited disorder with a high incidence of malignant tumours. Literature data on dermoscopic and in vivo reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) findings in patients with XP are very limited., Methods: Dermoscopic findings in 32 biopsy-proven BCCs and RCM findings in 10 biopsy-proven BCCs developed in seven XP patients were reviewed., Results: Of 32 BCCs, 28 were pigmented. On dermoscopy, BCCs exhibited multiple grey-blue globules/dots (81, 3%), short-fine telangiectasias/fine arborising vessels (65, 6%), multiple grey-blue ovoid nests (53, 1%), white structures (white-red structureless areas/shiny white areas/lines/strands) (56, 3%), arborising vessels (37, 5%), brown nests/globules/dots (28, 1%), spoke-wheel structures (9, 4%), leaf-like areas (9, 4%), ulceration (28, 1%), peripheral network (21, 9%), and multiple aggregated yellow-white globules (3, 1%). In 10 lesions in which further imaging with RCM was performed, RCM findings differentiated BCC from other tumours, including primary melanoma., Conclusions: Although the dominancy of pigmented structures may imitate melanoma clinically, dermoscopy is a valuable tool in the early diagnosis of BCCs in patients with XP. Purpose: To define the use of human amniotic membrane transplantation (hAMT) for reconstruction of the ocular surface after ocular surface lesion excisions in pediatric population during the last decade in a tertiary eye center., Methods: A total of 31 patients who underwent hAMT procedure because of the excision of ocular surface lesions between January 2009 and December 2021 were included in this study. The medical data were retrospectively evaluated., Results: The female-to-male ratio was 14/17. The mean age of the patients was 10.1±4.1 (range, 1-18) years. Although a single hAMT was applied to most of the cases (94.4%; 34 eyes), more than one hAMT was applied to 5.6% of cases (2 eyes). The amniotic membrane degradation duration was found to be 21.5±10.8 (range, 13-50) days., Conclusions: Amniotic membrane is used as a biomaterial in various ocular surface diseases with its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound healing properties. Although widely used, there are only a few studies reporting its clinical efficacy in the pediatric age group. Purpose: To assess oncological outcomes of patients receiving neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy (RCT) for soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of the extremities., Methods: Patients who were treated with preoperative radiotherapy and concomitant chemotherapy-3 cycles of mitomycin/doxorubicin/cisplatin (MAP) or 2-4 cycles of doxorubicin/cisplatin (AP)-followed by surgery were analyzed retrospectively. Survival rates were estimated, and prognostic factors were identified., Results: Between 1994 and 2017, a total of 108 patients were included. Median ages were 43 years and 51 years for patients receiving MAP and AP, respectively. The 5‑year local relapse-free survival (LRFS), disease-free survival (DFS), disease-specific survival (DSS), and overall survival (OS) were 94.1, 63.6, 75.3, and 71.9%, respectively. In the multivariate analysis, significant predictors were identified as follows: de novo or R1/R2 resected tumor on admission before RCT (p = 0.017; hazard ratio [HR] 0.112, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.019-0.675) and R0 resection after RCT (p = 0.010; HR 0.121, 95% CI 0.024-0.598) for LRFS; female gender (p = 0.042; HR 0.569, 95% CI 0.330-0.979) and liposarcoma histology (p = 0.014; HR 0.436, 95% CI 0.224-0.845) for DFS; liposarcoma histology (p = 0.003; HR 0.114, 95% CI 0.027-0.478) and AP regimen (p = 0.017; HR 0.371, 95% CI 0.165-0.836) for DSS; age ≤ 45 years (p = 0.043; HR 0.537, 95% CI 0.294-0.980) and liposarcoma histology (p = 0.006; HR 0.318, 95% CI 0.141-0.716) for OS, respectively., Conclusion: An increased risk for local failure seems to exist for patients with relapsed tumor on admission and having positive surgical margins after neoadjuvant RCT. Clinical and dermoscopic features of atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) are mostly non-diagnostic, so other in vivo diagnostic tools may give additional clues for accurate clinical diagnosis, such as in vivo reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM). However, there has been scarce data on RCM features of AFX in the literature, in only clear cell type. Objectives: To evaluate the demographic data, ocular and systemic findings, clinical management, and outcomes of patients with ocular cicatricial pemphigoid (OCP)., Materials and Methods: The medical records of 11 patients diagnosed as having OCP in the ophthalmology department of Ege University between 2008 and 2021 were evaluated retrospectively., Results: The patients' mean follow-up time was 14±5.76 months. All eyes (100%) had conjunctival involvement and 18 (81.81%) had corneal involvement. According to the Tauber staging system, 7 (31.81%), 8 (36.36%), and 7 (31.81%) of the eyes were stage 2, 3, and 4, respectively. The diagnosis was confirmed in 6 (66.66%) of 9 patients who underwent biopsy. Amniotic membrane transplantation was performed in 7 eyes, entropion surgery in 2 eyes, and electrocauterization for trichiasis in 5 eyes. Systemic involvement was observed in 45.45% (5/11) of patients, most commonly oral mucosal involvement (18.18%). Review of medical records showed that alkylating agents, steroids, and dapsone were used in patients treated before 2020. Mycophenolate mofetil was preferred to be used in combination with corticosteroids. Although treatment responses before mycophenolate mofetil usage could not be evaluated well because of loss to follow-up, 4 (66.66%) of 6 patients who received steroid treatment combined with mycophenolate mofetil showed partial or complete clinical remission. No serious side effects and drug withdrawal were observed., Conclusion: OCP is a sight-threatening autoimmune disease that affects older adults. Although positive biopsy results are valuable for diagnosis, negative results do not exclude the diagnosis. The main treatment is systemic immunosuppressives. Disease activity can be suppressed, especially with early initiation of drug therapy. These patients require a multidisciplinary approach. Background In this study, we aim to present the experience of a tertiary center regarding penile epidermoid cysts over 15 years. Methodology Patient files of those who underwent surgical excision for penile epidermoid cysts between 2005 and 2019 were reviewed retrospectively. The demographics, clinical characteristics, etiological factors, cyst features, surgical techniques, complications, and follow-up data were analyzed. Results In total, 24 penile epidermoid cysts were excised in 21 boys. The median age at the time of surgery was 52 (15-204) months. The median duration between previous surgery and cyst excision was 40 (1-180) months. In total, 11 cases had a history of circumcision, and 10 had undergone hypospadias surgery. There was no significant difference between these two etiologic groups (p > 0.05). The main symptom was an asymptomatic penile mass. The average cyst size was 9.4 ± 6.7 mm. All cysts were completely excised with incisions made over old scars, except one. No complications were observed during a median follow-up period of 50 (12-120) months, and only one recurrence was noted. Conclusions Acquired penile epidermoid cysts may present as an early or late complication after penile surgery. Objective: This study aimed to (1) compare the oncological results of patients who underwent re-excision after unplanned excision with those who underwent planned excision and (2) analyze the impact of local recurrences on oncological outcomes., Methods: Patients with soft tissue sarcoma who had been treated in our center between 2000 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups: Group PE (Planned excision; n=345) and group UE (Unplanned excision; n=145). Two groups were compared in terms of local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), metastasis-free survival (MFS), and overall survival (OS). Local recurrences effects over MFS and OS were also analyzed., Results: There were 26 (17.9%) local recurrences in the UE group and 30 (8.7%) local recurrences in the PE group (P=0.005). There was no difference in MFS and OS between study groups (P=0.278 and P=0.848, respectively). Five years MFS rates of UE and PE groups were 76.4% and 73.6%, and five-year OS rates of UE and PE groups were 70.3% and 73.9%, respectively (P=0.417, P=0.656). Patients with local recurrence had a 1.96 times higher risk of metastasis than patients without local recurrence (P=0.008). Patients with local recurrence had 1.65 times higher risk of mortality than patients without local recurrence (P=0.047)., Conclusion: Although local recurrence is much more common in the UE group, this outcome does not seem to affect MFS or OS. These results indicate that similar outcomes can be achieved if UE patients are referred and appropriately treated with wide re-resections., Level of Evidence: Level III, Therapeutic Study.

The diagnosis of a small-diameter melanoma may be challenging. We report the case of a 57-year-old man with a small pigmented papular lesion (2.5-mm diameter) that was suspicious on dermoscopy. A more confident differential diagnosis between an atypical nevus and a melanoma was necessary for correct management. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) allowed a confident diagnosis in this lesion, which was an invasive melanoma with 0.3-mm Breslow thickness. This case highlights the benefit of RCM to reach a confident diagnosis and correct management of a small-diameter invasive melanoma.

Abstract: Cutaneous amyloidosis (CA) is defined by the accumulation of amyloid in the dermis; it might be primary or secondary. The diagnosis is based on histopathological findings with the demonstration of amyloid deposits, confirmed by Congo red stain under the polarized light. Studies on other diagnostic markers are ongoing in the literature. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the utility of C4d staining in the recognition of amyloid in CA and using it as an alternative or substitute marker for the diagnosis. In this retrospective study, 199 skin biopsies with a clinical provisional diagnosis of CA were analyzed, the Congo red stain was performed, and, in a subgroup (n = 97) with histopathological findings probably for CA, C4d immunohistochemistry was assessed. Forty-eight cases of CA were detected. Congo red birefringence was positive in all cases, whereas in 14 cases, it was faded. In these 14 cases, the diagnosis of CA was made by means of Congo red fluorescence and Thioflavin T because the histopathological findings were highly suggestive for CA. All CA cases were positive with C4d, and in 12 of the 49 inflammatory dermatoses, C4d was positive. The interpretation of C4d immunohistochemistry can be performed more easily and rapidly than Congo red evaluation. The sensitivity and specificity of C4d were 100% and 75.5%, respectively. In our experience, C4d staining was a useful method for detecting amyloid deposits in CA. Background: Nivolumab is one of the targeted cancer therapy agent that acts to increase the immune responses by inhibition of antiprogrammed-death-receptor 1, which is one of the check points of the immune response. Nivolumab can be used to treat malign melanoma, lung, renal, head and neck, colorectal, hepatocellular cancers, and special cases of Hodgkin lymphoma., Aims: We aimed to report a rarer cutaneous side effect of nivolumab because of the increasing uses of this agent in various cancer treatments., Methods: We present a 48-year-old female, metastatic melanoma patient who developed plaque morphea lesion without any systemic involvement during nivolumab treatment. Plaque lesion responded well to use of topical corticosteroid and calcipotriol., Results: Numerous cutaneous side effects associated with nivolumab have been reported in the literature. The most common cutaneous side effects are maculopapular rash, pruritus, and vitiligo. Morphea and disorders from this spectrum reported due to PD-1 inhibitors in the literature are; morphea, sclerodermoid changes, eosinophilic fasciitis, and lichen sclerosis., Conclusion: Patients who are treated by PD-1 inhibitors may be examined carefully in terms of morphea and scleroderma-like conditions although they are not as common as other cutaneous side effects., (© 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a slowly progressive, locally aggressive fibroblastic tumor which can be misdiagnosed in the early stage. Reflectance confocal microscopic features of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans has been scarcely described in the literature. We described the dermoscopic and reflectance confocal microscopic findings of 12 × 15 cm sized tumoral lesion of 45-year-old man.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression may have role on recurrence of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) with positive surgical margin(s)., Objective: The aim was to investigate the role of genetic expression changes of EGFR on recurrence rates in patients in follow up with surgically excised BCC with positive surgical margin(s)., Methods: Thirty-four surgical margin-positive BCC lesions that were closely followed up without an immediate reoperation were included in this study. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed from the both healthy and tumoral tissue samples., Results: EGFR was expressed at a significantly higher rate in tumoral tissues compared to healthy tissues (p < 0,05). In patients with recurrence lesions, EGFR expression was 6,66 times higher compared to patients with non-recurrent. Also, there was statistically significant difference EGFR expression for infiltrative subtypes (p < 0,05)., Conclusion: Our study focuses on the role of EGFR overexpression specifically and outcomes for recurrent and infiltrative subtyped lesions are significant for both clinic and pathogenesis of BCC. Pachydermodactyly is a rare digital fibromatosis, characterized by painless, fusiform swelling in proximal interphalangeal joints. Since it may be misdiagnosed as inflammatory arthritis, it is important to call physicians' attention to this rarely seen condition to avoid unnecessary immunosuppressive treatment. Hereby, we present a case of a pachydermodactyly that had been previously followed-up and treated as an inflammatory arthritis for 4 years. We describe the clinical, radiological, and dermoscopic features of the case.

Background: The incidence of acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) in the white population is low. Dermoscopy enhances diagnosis of ALM; however, diagnostic accuracy may sometimes be poor due to the considerable proportion of amelanotic ALM variants., Objectives: To calculate the proportion of ALM among all melanoma subtypes and to determine the frequency of dermoscopic features of ALM in the Turkish population., Methods: Out of 612 melanomas, there were 70 cases of ALM, of which 46 showed sufficient image quality for retrospective study of dermoscopic features. Data from patients and their lesions was classified according to clinical features and histopathologic parameters. The dermoscopic variables evaluated were based on pertinent literature on dermoscopy of acral melanocytic neoplasms., Results: The prevalence of ALM among all melanoma subtypes was 11.4%. Parallel-ridge pattern (PRP) was detected in 60.8% of cases and irregular diffuse pigmentation (IDP) in 28.3%. The ALMs were amelanotic in 24%, showing an atypical vascular pattern in all cases; a new dermoscopic pattern, named "vascularized parallel-ridge pattern" (VPRP), was detected in 13% of ALMs. Irregular lines were observed in 81.8% of subungual melanomas and were often associated with a multicolored background., Conclusions: ALM has site-specific dermoscopic patterns, with PRP being the most prevalent pattern. Objectives: To investigate the long-term efficacy and results of surgical management of conjunctival melanoma reconstructed with amniotic membrane transplantation., Materials and Methods: Conjunctival melanoma in 10 patients (5 female, 5 male) was totally excised with adjunctive cryotherapy to the surgical margins, corneal epitheliectomy with absolute alcohol in cases of corneal involvement, lamellar sclerectomy in cases with episcleral involvement, and ocular surface grafting with cryopreserved amniotic membrane. Complications and tumor control rates were evaluated., Results: The mean age of the patients was 57.4±15.2 (range, 37-84) years. The mean diameter of the tumors was 15.5±4.9 (range, 10-25) mm and histopathologically confirmed complete excision was performed in all cases. Mild limbal stem cell deficiency (2 eyes) and subclinical symblepharon (3 eyes) were observed as long-term complications. In a mean follow-up of 56.7±40.4 (range, 30-132) months, only one local tumor recurrence was detected. Despite retreatment, exenteration was performed in this patient due to re-recurrence. One patient died due to disseminated metastasis despite the absence of local recurrence., Conclusion: In large conjunctival melanomas, reconstruction of the ocular surface is usually very challenging. There have been limited reports describing reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) features of Bowen's disease (BD). Herein, we describe the RCM features of a pigmented BD with atypical dermoscopic features, mimicking a melanoma. Mammary Paget disease is the intraepidermal adenocarcinoma of the nipple area which is characterized usually by a well-demarcated eczematous plaque. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), is an in vivo noninvasive diagnostic tool with a high-resolution imaging of the skin, almost comparable to conventional histology. RCM findings of Paget disease are limited in the literature. Most of the reported cases are the extramammary type. Background: Mucosal melanoma is a rare malignancy arising from melanocytes of the mucosal surfaces. The pattern and frequency of oncogenic mutations and histopathological biomarkers have a role on distinct tumour behaviour and survival., Aims: To assess the rate of C-KIT positivity and its effect on survival of surgically treated sinonasal malignant melanoma patients with other histopathological biomarkers and clinical features., Study Design: Retrospective cross-sectional study., Methods: Seventeen sinonasal malignant melanoma patients with a mean age of 65.41 (39-86) years were included. Overall survival and disease-specific survival rates were calculated. The impact of age, gender, stage and extent of the disease, type of surgery, and adjuvant therapies were also taken into consideration. The effect of mitotic index, pigmentation, S100, HMB-45, Melan-A and C-KIT on survival were evaluated., Results: Median tumour size was 20 mm (interquartile range=27.5 mm). Pigmentation was present in 7 (41.2%) cases. Median number of mitoses per millimetre squared was 11 (interquartile range=13). Melan A was positive in 7 (41.2%) patients, ulceration was present in 6 cases (35.3%), and necrosis was present in (47.1%) 8 cases. Six patients (35.3%) were positive for S100, 14 (82.4%) specimens stained positive for HMB-45 and C-KIT (CD117) was positive in 9 cases (52.9%). Three patients (16.7%) developed distant metastasis. Five year overall and disease free survival rates were 61.4% and 43.8%, respectively., Conclusion: Although C-KIT positive sinonasal malignant melanoma patients (52.9%) can be candidates for targeted tumour therapies, the studied clinical or histopathological features along with C-KIT seem to have no significant effect on survival in a small group of patients with sinonasal malignant melanoma.

A case of giant hidrocystoma of the orbit in a 57-year-old female causing pain, epiphora and ptosis is reported. The cystic mass was totally excised as a whole. Histopathologic examination revealed eccrine hidrocystoma of the orbit. This report describes a patient with choroidal malignant melanoma presenting as orbital cellulitis without extraocular tumor extension. It is an interventional case report with histopathologic correlation. A 68-year-old male presented with a 3-day history of painful hyperemia and swelling in the right eye. The examination showed edematous eyelids, mechanical ptosis and chemosis with conjunctival injection. B-scan ultrasonography showed a mass with medium level echogenicity that filled the vitreous cavity. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a solid choroidal mass with hemorrhagic and inflammatory changes with no obvious extraocular extension. Due to these suggestive findings of choroidal melanoma the right eye was enucleated. A spindle cell choroidal melanoma including intense pigmentation and necrosis was confirmed by histopathological examination. Although rare; choroidal melanoma may present as orbital cellulitis, particularly when the tumor is necrotic.

Background: The BRAF-V600 mutation is the most common mutation in cutaneous melanomas and is currently considered a target mutation when planning treatment for metastatic melanoma patients. Various techniques are used to determine the mutation status. The aim of this study was to determine the BRAF-V600 mutation status in primary and metastatic foci of melanoma cases and the consistency between the results of immunohistochemical and molecular methods., Methods: A total of 48 primary or metastatic cases were included in the study. Pyrosequencing was used as the molecular method and the VE1 antibody for immunohistochemical evaluation when determining the BRAF-V600 mutation., Results: The BRAF-V600 mutation was found in 75 of the 96 tumors (78.1%) from the 48 cases. V600E and V600K were present in 60 and 10 tumors, respectively, whereas V600R and V600M were present in 2 tumors and V600G in 1 tumor. There was no mutation in 5 metastases (12.8%) of the 39 cases with a V600 mutation in the primary tumor and no mutation in the primary tumor of 2 of the 36 cases (5.6%) with the V600 mutation in the metastasis. Fifty-six tumors were immunohistochemically positive where a V600E mutation was detected with pyrosequencing. Wild-type tumors (n = 20) and tumors with non-V600E mutations (n = 15) on pyrosequencing were immunonegative with VE1. The sensitivity and specificity of immunohistochemistry were 93.3% and 97.2%, respectively., Conclusions: In conclusion, BRAF-V600 mutation inconsistencies of up to 14.5% can be seen between the primary and metastatic foci in melanoma cases. These findings should be taken into account when planning targeted therapy and deciding on treatment responsiveness/unresponsiveness. An immunohistochemical method can be used as the first step to detect a BRAF-V600 mutation but additional molecular methods should be used when immunohistochemistry results are negative.

Malignant blue nevi (MBN) are extremely rare dermal melanocytic tumors that arise in association with atypical cellular blue nevi (ACBN), cellular blue nevi (CBN), common blue nevi (BN), or de novo. The frequency of BRAF, NRAS, and KIT mutations in malignant melanoma varies according to histological subtype and localization. These mutations are rarely observed in blue nevi, which have recently been shown to carry activating mutations in GNAQ/GNA11 genes. Only few small molecular studies of MBN have been published. The aim of the present study was to analyze in MBN and related blue lesions such as ACBN, CBN, and BN the prevalence of BRAF, NRAS, KIT, GNAQ, and GNA11 gene mutations and their association with clinicopathological features. We included in our study 12 MBN, 6 ACBN, 29 CBN, and 35 common BN diagnosed between 1996 and 2014. Sanger sequencing method was used for mutation analysis. Overall, GNAQ exon 5 mutation was the most frequent alteration (46 %), in 2 of 12 (17 %) MBN, 1 of 6 (17 %) ACBN, 22 of 29 (76 %) CBN, and 13 of 35 (37 %) common BN. BRAF V600E and GNA11 exon 5 mutations were respectively detected in 3 of 12 (25 %) and in 2 of 12 (17 %) MBN while none in ACBN, CBN, and common BN. None of the cases harbored NRAS exon 2/3, KIT exon 9/11/13/17/18, or GNAQ/GNA11 exon 4 mutations. GNAQ gene exon 5 mutations are rare in MBN and ACBN but frequent in CBN and common BN. Remarkably, BRAF V600E and GNA11 exon 5 mutations were only detected in MBN, whereas none were found in ACBN, CBN, or common BN. Our data contribute new elements to the limited data on molecular alterations in MBN.
