Objective: To explore and compare the dosage of balance training on ankle function and dynamic balance ability in patients with chronic ankle instability (CAI)., Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, and Cochrane databases were searched up to December 2023. Quality assessment was carried out using the risk-of-bias guidelines of the Cochrane Collaboration, and the standardized mean differences (SMD) or mean differences (MD) for each outcome were compute., Results: Among 20 eligible studies, including 682 participants were analyzed in this meta-analysis. The results of the meta-analysis demonstrated that balance training was effective in enhancing ankle function with self-functional scores (SMD = 1.02; 95% CI, 0.61 to 1.43; p < 0.00001; I 2  = 72%) and variables associated with the ability of dynamic balance such as SEBT-A (MD = 5.88; 95% CI, 3.37 to 8.40; p < 0.00001; I 2  = 84%), SEBT-PM (MD = 5.47; 95% CI, 3.40 to 7.54; p < 0.00001; I 2  = 61%), and SEBT-PL (MD = 6.04; 95% CI, 3.30 to 8.79; p < 0.0001; I 2  = 79%) of CAI patients. Meta-regression indicated that the intervention time might be the principal cause of heterogeneity (p = 0.046) in self-functional scores. In subgroup analyses of self-functional score across intervention types, among the intervention time, more than 20 min and less than 30 min had the most favorable effect (MD = 1.21, 95% CI: 0.96 to 1.46, p < 0.00001, I 2  = 55%); among the intervention period, 4 weeks (MD = 0.84, 95% CI: 0.50 to 1.19, p < 0.00001, I 2  = 78%) and 6 weeks (MD = 1.21, 95% CI: 0.91 to 1.51, p < 0.00001, I 2  = 71%) had significant effects; among the intervention frequency, 3 times (MD = 1.14, 95% CI: 0.89 to 1.38), p < 0.00001, I 2  = 57%) had significant effects. Secondly, in subgroup analyses of SEBT across intervention types, a 4-week and 6-week intervention with balance training 3 times a week for 20-30 min is the optimal combination of interventions to improve SEBT (dynamic balance) in patients with chronic ankle instability., Conclusion: Balance training proves beneficial for ankle function in patients with CAI. Intervention time constitutes a major factor influencing self-function in patients with CAI. It is recommended that the optimal dosage of balance training for CAI involves intervention three times a week, lasting for 20 to 30 min over a period of 4 to 6 weeks for superior rehabilitation., (© 2024. Background: Increasing evidence has shown that environmental factors play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Humans are simultaneously exposed to a variety of environmental brominated flame retardants (BFRs). However, the relationship between BFRs in periodontitis remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the overall association between BFRs and periodontitis in a nationally representative US population and to further identify important chemicals., Methods: Data from 3322 NHANES participants from 2009 to 2016 were used. Serum BFRs were registered, including PBDE-28, PBDE-47, PBDE-85, PBDE-99, PBDE100, PBDE-153, PBDE-154, PBDE-183, PBDE-209 and PBB-153. Survey weighted generalized logistic regression models, restricted cubic splines (RCS) were conducted to assess single BFRs exposure with periodontitis. Meanwhile, weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were used to evaluate the overall association of BFRs mixtures with periodontitis and to identify significant chemicals., Results: A total of 3322 participants were included in the study, of whom 1795 had periodontitis. After adjusting for potential confounders, multiple logistic regression analysis revealed significant positive associations between serum levels of PBDE-28, PBDE-47, PBDE-85, PBDE-99, PBDE-100, PBDE-154, PBDE-183, and PBB-153 and the risk of periodontitis (all P < 0.05). A dose-response relationship was observed for many of these BFRs, with higher quantiles associated with an increased risk of periodontitis. WQS regression identified PBDE-183 (38.60%), PBDE-153 (21.20%), PBDE-209 (14.40%), and PBDE-99 (11.90%) as the BFRs with the largest weights contributing to the overall mixture effect on periodontitis risk. BKMR analysis further supported the positive association between serum BFRs and periodontitis, with most individual BFRs showing a positive trend, except for PBDE-153. Restricted cubic spline analysis revealed a generally increasing probability of periodontitis with increasing concentrations of BFRs, albeit with some nonlinear patterns for certain compounds., Conclusion: In conclusion, this study provides compelling evidence of a significant association between exposure to brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and an increased risk of periodontitis in a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults. Background and Objective: Breast cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among women worldwide. This study aimed to assess the global burden of breast cancer and identify attributable risk factors across 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021., Methods: Using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021, we analyzed the incidence, mortality, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and risk factors associated with breast cancer. We obtained and analyzed the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized death rate (ASDR), and age-standardized DALYs rate from 1990 to 2021. We assessed geographical variations and the impact of the Socio-demographic Index (SDI) using regression analysis and stratification by SDI quintiles. Additionally, we estimated the risk factors attributable to breast cancer deaths and DALYs using the comparative risk assessment framework of the GBD study., Results: Globally, breast cancer incident cases increased from 875,657 in 1990 to 2,121,564 in 2021. The ASIR rose from 16.42 to 26.88 per 100,000 (95% CI: 1.54-1.60). High SDI regions showed the highest ASIR (66.89 per 100,000 in 2021), while Low SDI regions had the lowest (6.99 per 100,000 in 2021). The global ASDR decreased from 10.42 to 8.54 per 100,000, and the age-standardized DALYs rate decreased from 313.36 to 261.5 per 100,000 between 1990 and 2021. However, these improvements were not uniform across SDI regions. Risk factors included high body-mass index, alcohol use, tobacco, and high fasting plasma glucose, with variations across SDI regions., Conclusion: The global burden of breast cancer has increased significantly from 1990 to 2021, with disparities observed across SDI regions. While high SDI areas show improvements in mortality and DALYs, lower SDI regions face increasing burdens. Targeted interventions addressing modifiable risk factors and improving healthcare access in less developed regions are crucial for reducing the global impact of breast cancer., (© 2024. Background: Sexual minority student-athletes (SMSAs) face discrimination and identity conflicts in intercollegiate sport, impacting their participation and mental health. This study explores the perceptions of Chinese SMSAs regarding their sexual minority identities, aiming to fill the current gap in research related to non-Western countries., Methods: A qualitative methodology was adopted, utilising the Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach with self-categorization theory as the theoretical framework. Participants were recruited through purposive and snowball sampling, and data were collected via semi-structured interviews, documents, and field notes. Sixteen former and current Chinese SMSAs participated in this study., Results: The study reveals four themes: hidden truths, prioritisation of athlete identity, self-stereotyping, and attempt. The results revealed that while SMSAs were common in intercollegiate sport, their identities were often concealed and not openly discussed. The predominant focus on athlete identity in sport overshadowed their sexual minority identities. Additionally, SMSAs developed self-stereotypes that influenced their thoughts and behaviours. The non-heterosexual team atmosphere in women's teams led to the development of intimate relationships among teammates., Conclusions: The findings from this study could be incorporated into existing sport policies to ensure the safe participation of SMSAs in Chinese intercollegiate sports. This research offers valuable insights for the development and implementation of inclusive policies. Optical camera communication (OCC) has garnered worldwide research attention, due to its immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and efficient utilization of spectrum resources. However, the limited bandwidth of the OCC system and the timing offset of the camera result in low system throughput. To enhance the OCC throughput, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a frame-rate adaptive fractionally spaced equalization algorithm (FA-FSE) for the joint mitigation of severe inter-symbol interference (ISI) and timing offset arising in OCC. Experimental results validate its correct and power-efficient function, leading to a record aggregated throughput of 250.96 kbit/s, when the 8-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-8) signals are independently modulated to eight chip-on-board light emitting diode (COB-LED) light strips, while simultaneously received by a smartphone 10 cm away.

Background: Migraine, a widespread neurological condition, substantially affects the quality of life, particularly for adolescents and young adults. While its impact is significant, there remains a paucity of comprehensive global research on the burden of migraine in younger demographics. Our study sought to elucidate the global prevalence, incidence, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) associated with migraine in the 15-39 age group from 1990 to 2021, utilizing data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 study., Methods: Our comprehensive study analyzed migraine data from the GBD 2021 report, examining the prevalence, incidence, and DALYs across 204 countries and territories over a 32-year span. We stratified the information by age, sex, year, geographical region, and Socio-demographic Index (SDI). To evaluate temporal trends in these metrics, we employed the estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) calculation., Results: Between 1990 and 2021, the worldwide prevalence of migraine among 15-39 year-olds increased substantially. By 2021, an estimated 593.8 million cases were reported, representing a 39.52% rise from 425.6 million cases in 1990. Global trends showed increases in age-standardized prevalence rate, incidence rate, and DALY rate for migraine during this period. The EAPC were positive for all three metrics: 0.09 for ASPR, 0.03 for ASIR, and 0.09 for DALY rate. Regions with medium SDI reported the highest absolute numbers of prevalent cases, incident cases, and DALYs in 2021. However, high SDI regions demonstrated the most elevated rates overall. Across the globe, migraine prevalence peaked in the 35-39 age group. Notably, female rates consistently exceeded male rates across all age categories., Conclusion: The global impact of migraine on youths and young adults has grown considerably from 1990 to 2021, revealing notable variations across SDI regions, countries, age groups, and sexes. The synthesis of heterojunction materials is regarded as an efficient way to enhance catalytic activities in various catalytic reactions. However, the existing fabrication approaches often rely on complex multi-step synthesis process. In this work, we fabricate sweater-ball shaped nanostructured MOF/TMS (Ni-MOF/NiS 1.03 ) heterojunction by one-pot, one-step solvothermal method. According to the results of discrete Fourier transform (DFT) calculations and experiments, the formation of Ni-MOF/NiS 1.03 heterojunction interfaces improves electron transfer and charge redistribution, and increases the adsorption energy of glucose molecules as well, which is conducive to enhance electrochemical activity of electrode materials. The as-prepared Ni-MOF/NiS 1.03 heterojunction exhibit enhanced glucose sensitivity, wide detection range and low detection limit. Background: Ischemic stroke remains a major contributor to global mortality and morbidity. This study aims to provide an updated assessment of rates in ischemic stroke prevalence, incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2021, specifically focusing on including prevalence investigation alongside other measures. The analysis is stratified by sex, age, and socio-demographic index (SDI) at global, regional, and national levels., Methods: Data for this study was obtained from the 2021 Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD). To quantify temporal patterns and assess trends in age-standardized rates of ischemic stroke prevalence (ASPR), incidence (ASIR), mortality (ASDR), and DALYs, estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were computed over the study period. The analyses were disaggregated by gender, 20 age categories, 21 GBD regions, 204 nations/territories, and 5 SDI quintiles. R statistical package V 4.4.2 was performed for statistical analyses and plot illustrations., Findings: In 2021, the global burden of ischemic stroke remained substantial, with a total of 69,944,884.8 cases with an ASPR of 819.5 cases per 100,000 individuals (95% UI: 760.3-878.7). The ASIR was 92.4 per 100,000 people (95% UI: 79.8-105.8), while the ASDR was 44.2 per 100,000 persons (95% UI: 39.3-47.8). Additionally, the age-standardized DALY rate was 837.4 per 100,000 individuals (95% UI: 763.7-905). Regionally, areas with high-middle SDI exhibited the greatest ASPR, ASIR, ASDR, and age-standardized DALY rates, whereas high SDI regions had the lowest rates. Geospatially, Southern Sub-Saharan Africa had the highest ASPR, while Eastern Europe showed the highest ASIR. The greatest ASDR and age-standardized DALY rates were observed in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, as well as North Africa, and the Middle East. Among countries, Ghana had the highest ASPR, and North Macedonia had both the highest ASIR and ASDR. Furthermore, North Macedonia also exhibited the highest age-standardized DALY rate., Interpretation: Regions with high-middle and middle SDI continued to experience elevated ASPR, ASIR, ASDR and age-standardized DALY rates. A nonlinear Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (NTHP) scheme has been verified for its capability to effectively address both the linear and nonlinear inter-symbol interferences (ISIs) arising in the intensity-modulation direct-detection (IM-DD) fiber optics transmission. Nevertheless, the application of the NTHP scheme may significantly increase the number of levels for the intensity modulated signals, resulting in the reduction of both eye width and receiver sensitivity. Here, we propose a fractionally spaced NTHP with a weight clustering (FS-NTHP-WC) scheme. Consequently, an accurate ISI feedback can be obtained to enlarge the eye width; meanwhile a hardware-efficient implementation without the equalization penalty can be achieved by weight clustering and pruning. When the C-band 100 Gbaud/λ PAM-4 signals are transmitted, our proposed FS-NTHP-WC scheme not only can achieve 0.25 dB and 0.5 dB gains of receiver sensitivity under back-to-back (B2B) and 2-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) transmission conditions, respectively, but can also cut down the computational complexity by 90% and 76% in terms of the number of multiplications and additions, respectively, in comparison with the NTHP scheme.

The performance of high-speed intensity modulation direct detection (IM-DD) transmissions is severely degraded due to the occurrence of multipath interference (MPI), especially when a higher-order modulation format is utilized. Here, we propose and demonstrate, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, that a Nyquist subcarrier modulation (Nyquist-SCM) format inherently exhibits resistance to the MPI. We experimentally evaluate the MPI tolerance by transmitting 56 Gbit/s PAM-4 signals and Nyquist-SCM 16QAM signals over the 2 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) when the C-band semiconductor laser with a linewidth of 1.7 MHz is utilized. In comparison with the PAM-4 format, the Nyquist-SCM 16QAM format can lead to an enhanced MPI tolerance of 4 dB at the KP4-FEC threshold of BER = 2 × 10 -4 . In addition, even with the help of MPI mitigation for the PAM-4 signals based on two newly reported methods, the utilization of Nyquist-SCM 16QAM signal can still guarantee an improved MPI tolerance of 1 dB.

We propose a high-speed multimode fiber short-reach optical interconnect system based on a Kramers-Kronig (KK) field reconstruction with the mode division multiplexing (MDM) and polarization division multiplexing (PDM) technology. In this work, the LP01, LP21a, LP21b, and LP02 modes are selected as independent channels to carry information. The demonstration achieved the 800 Gb/s net data rate per wavelength with a bit-rate-distance-product (BDP) of 8 Tb/s·km. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest experimental record of a single wavelength BDP over the SMMF with KK detection. In addition, we discuss the system performance after all multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and partial MIMO processing and give guidance on the trade-off between system performance and computational resource.

Hydrogen energy and biomass energy are green and sustainable forms that can solve the energy crisis all over the world. Electrocatalytic water splitting is a marvelous way to produce hydrogen and biomass platform molecules can be added into the electrolyte to reduce the overpotential and meanwhile are converted into some useful organics, but the key point is the design of electrocatalyst. Herein, ultralow noble metal Ru is doped into NiS 2 to form RuO 2 @NiS 2 heterojunction. Amongst them, the 0.06 RuO 2 @NiS 2 has low overpotentials of 363 mV for OER and 71 mV for HER in 1 m KOH, which are superior to the RuO 2 and Pt/C. Besides, the 0.06 RuO 2 @NiS 2 shows a low overpotential of 173 mV in 1 m KOH+0.1 m glycerol, and the glycerol is oxidized to glyceraldehyde and formic acid via the high Faraday efficiency GlyOR process, and the splitting voltage is only 1.17 V. In addition, the 0.06 RuO 2 @NiS 2 has a low overpotential of 206 mV in 1 m KOH+0.1 m glucose, and the glucose is converted to glucaric acid, lactic acid, and formic acid. We propose a rapid and precise scheme for characterizing the full-field frequency response of a thin-film lithium niobate-based intensity modulator (TFLN-IM) via a specially designed multi-tone microwave signal. Our proposed scheme remains insensitive to the bias-drift of IM. Experimental verification is implemented with a self-packaged TFLN-IM with a 3 dB bandwidth of 30 GHz. In comparison with the vector network analyzer (VNA) characterization results, the deviation values of the amplitude-frequency response (AFR) and phase-frequency response (PFR) within the 50 GHz bandwidth are below 0.3 dB and 0.15 rad, respectively. When the bias is drifted within 90% of the V π range, the deviation fluctuation values of AFR and PFR are less than 0.3 dB and 0.05 rad, respectively. With the help of the full-field response results, we can pre-compensate the TFLN-IM for the 64 Gbaud PAM-4 signals under the back-to-back (B2B) transmission, achieving a received optical power (ROP) gain of 2.3 dB. The versatility of our proposed full-field response characterization scheme can extend to various optical transceivers, offering the advantage of low cost, robust operation, and flexible implementation.

With the rapid urbanization and industrialization, heavy metal contamination in urban soil and surface dust has received particular attention due to its negative effects on the eco-environment and human health. Contamination and spatio-temporal characteristics, contamination sources, and source apportionment methods, as well as the ecological and health risks of heavy metals in urban soil and surface dust were reviewed. The knowledge gaps in current research and prospects of future works were proposed. Four key points were presented, including improving the research on the interaction mechanism of heavy metals in urban soil and surface dust under complex conditions, enriching verification methods to improve the source apportionment reliability of anthropogenic metals by receptor models, strengthening the research on chemical forms of heavy metals from different sources and their short-term accumulation processes in surface dust, and raising the credibility of ecological and health risk forecast of heavy metals by integrating the improved exposure parameters and chemical forms.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests a pivotal role of vitamin B2 in the pathogenesis and progression of prostate cancer (PCa). Vitamin B2 intake has been postulated to modulate the screening rate for PCa by altering the concentration of prostate-specific antigen(PSA). However, the relationship between vitamin B2 and PSA remains indeterminate. Hence, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the association between vitamin B2 intake and PSA levels, utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database., Methods: From a pool of 20,371 participants in the NHANES survey conducted between 2003 and 2010, a cohort of 2,323 participants was selected for the present study. The male participants were classified into four distinct groups based on their levels of vitamin B2 intake. We employed a multiple linear regression model and a non-parametric regression method to investigate the relationship between vitamin B2 and PSA levels., Results: The study cohort comprised of 2,323 participants with a mean age of 54.95 years (± 11.73). Our findings revealed a statistically significant inverse correlation between vitamin B2 intake (mg) and PSA levels, with a reduction of 0.13 ng/ml PSA concentration for every unit increase in vitamin B2 intake. Furthermore, we employed a fully adjusted model to construct a smooth curve to explore the possible linear relationship between vitamin B2 intake and PSA concentration., Conclusions: Our study in American men has unveiled a notable inverse association between vitamin B2 intake and PSA levels, potentially posing a challenge for the identification of asymptomatic prostate cancer. Specifically, our findings suggest that individuals with higher vitamin B2 intake may be at a greater risk of being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in the future, possibly indicating a detection bias. The fulfilment of the adiabatic criterion is indispensable for the realization of a low-loss photonic lantern (PL), concurrently imposing a stringent restriction on the taper transition length of the PL. Here, by relaxing the adiabatic criterion, a low-loss and compact PL based on a step-index double cladding fiber (SI-DCF) is theoretically proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The use of SI-DCF can reduce the mode field diameter (MFD) expansion ratio during the tapering processing and greatly decrease the taper transition length required for adiabatic tapering. We initially evaluate the variation of both MFD and effective refractive index (RI) along the fiber tapering based on three types of fiber structures, including the modified standard single-mode fiber (SSMF), the graded-index fiber (GIF), and the proposed SI-DCF. In comparison with the commonly used fiber geometry, the SI-DCF can reduce the MFD expansion ratio from 77.73% to 38.81%, leading to more than half reduction of the tapering length for both 3-mode and 6-mode PLs. Then, two kinds of SI-DCF with different core diameters are fabricated to realize a 3-mode PL. The fabricated PL possesses a 1.5 cm tapering length and less than 0.2 dB insertion loss (IL). After splicing with the commercial few-mode fiber, the PL has an average IL of 0.6 dB and more than 13 dB LP 11 mode purity over the C-band. Finally, a transfer matrix measurement indicates that the fabricated PLs have a mode coupling of less than -10 dB at 1550 nm.

Background: Depression is a significant mental health concern affecting the overall well-being of adolescents and young adults. Recently, the prevalence of depression has increased among young people. Nonetheless, there is little research delving into the longitudinal epidemiology of adolescent depression over time., Aims: To investigate the longitudinal epidemiology of depression among adolescents and young adults aged 10-24 years., Method: Our research focused on young people (aged 10-24 years) with depression, using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019. We explored the age-standardised prevalence, incidence and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of depression in different groups, including various regions, ages, genders and sociodemographic indices, from 1990 to 2019., Results: The prevalence, incidence and DALYs of depression in young people increased globally between 1990 and 2019. Regionally, higher-income regions like High-Income North America and Australasia recorded rising age-standardised prevalence and incidence rates, whereas low- or middle-income regions mostly saw reductions. Nationally, countries such as Greenland, the USA and Palestine reported the highest age-standardised prevalence and incidence rates in 2019, whereas Qatar witnessed the largest growth over time. The burden disproportionately affected females across age groups and world regions. The most prominent age effect on incidence and prevalence rates was in those aged 20-24 years. The depression burden showed an unfavourable trend in younger cohorts born after 1980, with females reporting a higher cohort risk than males., Conclusions: Between 1990 and 2019, the general pattern of depression among adolescents varied according to age, gender, time period and generational cohort, across regions and nations.

Aim: To propose an algorithm for automatic detection of diabetic retinopathy (DR) lesions based on ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO)., Methods: The algorithm utilized the FasterRCNN (Faster Regions with CNN features)+ResNet50 (Residua Network 50)+FPN (Feature Pyramid Networks) method for detecting hemorrhagic spots, cotton wool spots, exudates, and microaneurysms in DR ultra-widefield SLO. Subimage segmentation combined with a deeper residual network FasterRCNN+ResNet50 was employed for feature extraction to enhance intelligent learning rate. Objective: This modelling study aimed to estimate the burden for allergic diseases in children during a period of 30 years., Design: Population-based observational study., Main Outcomes and Measures: The data on the incidence, mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for childhood allergic diseases, such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and asthma, were retrieved from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019 online database. This data set spans various groups, including different regions, ages, genders and Socio-Demographic Indices (SDI), covering the period from 1990 to 2019., Results: In 2019, there were approximately 81 million children with asthma and 5.6 million children with AD worldwide. The global incidence of asthma in children was 20 million. Age-standardised incidence rates showed a decrease of 4.17% for asthma, from 1075.14 (95% uncertainty intervals (UI), 724.63 to 1504.93) per 100 000 population in 1990 to 1030.33 (95% UI, 683.66 to 1449.53) in 2019. Similarly, the rates for AD decreased by 5.46%, from 594.05 (95% UI, 547.98 to 642.88) per 100 000 population in 1990 to 561.61 (95% UI, 519.03 to 608.29) in 2019. The incidence of both asthma and AD was highest in children under 5 years of age, gradually decreasing with age. Interestingly, an increase in SDI was associated with a rise in the incidence of both conditions. However, the mortality rate and DALYs for asthma showed a contrasting trend., Conclusions: Over the past three decades, there has been a worldwide increase in new asthma and AD cases, even though mortality rates have significantly declined. Background: Music therapy (MT) has received increasing attention from scholars in the efficacy treatment of anxiety symptoms, which is of great significance to human physical and mental health. The visual mapping functionality of CiteSpace and Vosviewer software was applied in this study to assess the status of MT in the treatment of anxiety symptoms., Methods: In order to find research on MT and anxiety that were relevant for this research, we searched the Web of Science database. We also utilized CiteSpace and VOSviewer software to examine institutions, journals, authors, publications, and keywords for scientometric and visual analysis., Results: Our findings show that since 2009, the field has developed rapidly and publications on MT and anxiety have gradually increased. The journal Complement Therapies In Medicine published the most relevant articles, the Cochrane Database Of Systematic Reviews journal had the highest citation frequency, and the United States had the most publications. The majority of the top academic institutions in the region are found in the United States, with the University of London having the most publications. The evolution of this field was significantly influenced by Gold C., the author with the most publications, and Bradt J., the author with the most co-citations. Background: In the contemporary academic milieu, an array of erudite investigations has meticulously delved into the ramifications of social media paradigms on the nuances of modern societal interactions. Predominantly, these scholarly endeavors have harnessed quantitative methodologies to discern both the advantageous and detrimental implications of social media. Notwithstanding these extensive analyses, there appears to be a conspicuous lacuna in the literature about the subjective repercussions of social media on the well-being and contentment of tertiary education students. In light of this gap, the present qualitative exploration seeks to elucidate the perceptions of Chinese collegiate individuals vis-à-vis the influence of social media platforms on their experiential happiness., Method: Guided by interpretative phenomenological analysis (Jonathan et al., 2022) [1], we conducted 3 semi-structured interviews with 5 university students., Result: Using an interpretive phenomenology analysis approach four themes. As for the photonic interconnection based on the multiple-lane intensity modulation direct detection (IM-DD) transmission, both intra-channel inter-symbol-interference (ISI) originating from bandwidth constraint, and inter-channel performance discrepancy emerging from inter-channel component differences are the major bottleneck for the throughput enhancement. Here, we propose a pairwise Tomlinson-Harshima precoding (P-THP) scheme, in order to simultaneously deal with both intra-channel ISI and inter-channel performance discrepancy. The effective function of the proposed P-THP scheme is experimentally evaluated by transmitting 4-channel 81-GBaud PAM4 signals over 2 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF). Compared with the conventional scheme with only applying THP on individual wavelength channel, the required optical received power (ROP) under the back-to-back (B2B) transmission can be reduced by 0.75∼1 dB with the help of proposed P-THP in different experimental component configurations, at the 7% hard decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) threshold of BER = 3.8 × 10 -3 . After the 2 km SSMF transmission, only the use of proposed P-THP can guarantee to reach the designated HD-FEC threshold, leading to a net rate of >600 Gbit/s.

Objectives: To elucidate the impact of [ 18 F]FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) vs. CT workup on staging and prognostic evaluation of clinical stage (c) I-II NSCLC., Methods: We retrospectively identified 659 cI-II NSCLC who underwent CT (267 patients) or preoperative CT followed by PET/CT (392 patients), followed by curative-intended complete resection in our hospital from January 2008 to December 2013. Differences were assessed between preoperative and postoperative stage. Five-year disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier approach and compared with log-rank test. Impact of preoperative PET/CT on survival was assessed by Cox regression analysis., Results: The study included 659 patients [mean age, 59.5 years ± 10.8 (standard deviation); 379 men]. The PET/CT group was superior over CT group in DFS [12.6 vs. 6.9 years, HR 0.67 (95% CI 0.53-0.84), p < 0.001] and OS [13.9 vs. 10.5 years, HR 0.64 (95% CI 0.50-0.81), p < 0.001]. In CT group, more patients thought to have cN0 migrated to pN1/2 disease as compared with PET/CT group [26.4% (66/250) vs. 19.2% (67/349), p < 0.001], resulting in more stage cI cases being upstaged to pII-IV [24.7% (49/198) vs. 16.1% (47/292), p = 0.02], yet this was not found in cII NSCLC [27.5% (19/69) vs. 27.0% (27/100), p = 0.94]. Cox regression analysis identified preoperative PET/CT as an independent prognostic factor of OS and DFS (p = 0.002, HR = 0.69, 95% CI 0.54-0.88; p = 0.004, HR = 0.72, 95% CI 0.58-0.90)., Conclusion: Addition of preoperative [ 18 F]FDG PET/CT was associated with superior DFS and OS in resectable cI-II NSCLC, which may result from accurate staging and stage-appropriate therapy., (© 2023. The high mortality rate associated with melanoma primarily results from metastasis and recurrence. However, the precise mechanisms driving these processes remain poorly understood. Intercellular communication between cancer cells and non-cancer cells significantly influences the tumor microenvironment and plays a crucial role in metastasis. Therefore, our current study aims to investigate the role and mechanism of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in regulating the interaction between melanoma cancer stem cells (CSCs) and non-CSCs during the metastatic colonization process. This study has characterized a novel lncRNA called Gm33149. Importantly, we provide evidence for the first time that Gm33149, originating from highly metastatic melanoma stem cells (OL-SD), can be packaged into exosomes and transferred to low-metastatic nonstem cells (OL). Once internalized by OL cells, Gm33149 exerts its function through a competitive endogenous RNA mechanism (ceRNA) involving miR-5623-3p. Specifically, Gm33149 competitively binds to miR-5623-3p, thereby activating the Wnt signaling pathway and promoting the acquisition of a more aggressive metastatic phenotype by OL cells. In summary, our findings suggest that targeting lncRNA Gm33149 within extracellular vesicles could potentially serve as a therapeutic strategy for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. The Kramers-Kronig (KK) receiver has attracted much attention in short-range optical interconnection because of its ability to recover the phase of the signal from the intensity information through KK algorithm. In high-speed KK systems, such as virtual-carrier (VC) assisted ones, an alternating current (AC) coupled photo-detector (PD) is preferred due to relaxing the requirements of analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and electronic amplifier by filtering direct current (DC) component. However, the loss of the DC component will cause the KK algorithm to break down, so it is necessary to accurately recover DC value in the digital domain with multiple-sweep. In this paper, we propose what we believe is a novel non-sweep DC component estimation scheme based on optimized digital carrier-to-signal power ratio (OD-CSPR) method, which can accurately estimate the DC component with only 3-4 iterations in the scenario of VC-assisted KK receiver optical transmission. The scheme utilizes the one-dimensional search optimization algorithm based on golden section search and parabolic interpolation without sweeping. The simulation and experimental results of the proposed non-sweep OD-CSPR method show that the DC component can be estimated accurately in a large CSPR range, and the system performance is close to that of the conventional DC-sweep method. Compared with the typical defined digital CSPR (DD-CSPR) based optimization method, the proposed one can realize optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) gains of 0.9 dB in the back-to-back (B2B) and 0.7 dB under 80 km fiber transmission scenarios respectively with a total bit rate of 160Gb/s.

Background: This study aims to delineate the burden of congenital birth defects (CBDs) in children under 14 years of age from 1990 to 2019, using an age-period-cohort framework to analyse data from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD)., Methods: Data on prevalence cases, age-standardised prevalence rates (ASPRs), death cases, and age-standardised death rates (ASDRs) of congenital birth defects (CBDs) from 1990 to 2019 were obtained from GBD 2019. Using this data set, we conducted an age-period-cohort (APC) analysis to examine patterns and trends in mortality, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) associated with CBDs, while exploring correlations with age, time periods, and generational birth cohorts. Furthermore, to quantify the temporal trends, we calculated the estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) for these parameters., Results: The global prevalence of CBDs decreased from 1404.22 to 1301.66 per 100 000 with an EAPC of -0.18% from 1990 to 2019. CBD mortality decreased by 42.52% between 1990 and 2019, with the global age-standardised death rate declining from 49.72 to 25.58 per 100 000. The age-standardised DALY rate decreased from 4529.16 to 2393.61 per 100 000. Prevalence declined most notably among older children. The risk of CBDs reached its lowest during adolescence (10-14 years) across all regions. The most recent period (2015-2019) showed a reduced risk of prevalence compared to 2000-2004. Earlier birth cohorts displayed declining tendencies followed by slight increases in risk., Conclusions: This study demonstrates encouraging global reductions in the burden of CBDs among children over the past three decades. Prevalence, mortality, and DALYs attributable to CBDs have exhibited downward trajectories, although regional disparities remain. Compared with individuals with hearing loss, tinnitus patients without hearing loss have more psychological or emotional problems. Tinnitus is closely associated to abnormal metabolism and function of the limbic system, a key brain region for emotion experience, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains unknown. Using whole-brain microvasculature dynamics imaging, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is identified as a key brain region of limbic system involve in the onset of salicylate-induced tinnitus in mice. In the tinnitus group, there is enhanced purine metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, and a distinct pattern of phosphorylation in glutamatergic synaptic pathway according to the metabolome profiles, quantitative proteomic, and phosphoproteomic data of mice ACC tissue. Electroencephalogram in tinnitus patients with normal hearing thresholds show that the functional connectivity between pregenual anterior cingulate cortex and the primary auditory cortex is significantly increased for high-gamma frequency band, which is positively correlated with the serum glutamate level. These findings indicate that ACC plays an important role in the pathophysiology of tinnitus by interacting with the primary auditory cortex and provide potential molecular targets in the ACC for tinnitus treatment., (© 2023 The Authors. Background: The high mortality rate of lung cancer is largely attributed to metastasis. Lung cancer stem cells (CSC) are conducive to cancer heterogeneity. Long noncoding RNAs are known to participate in various biological processes regulating the development of lung cancer. However, characterization of the role and mechanisms of lncRNA in lung cancer metastasis remains a challenge., Results: We demonstrate that ROLLCSC, a highly expressed lncRNA in LLC-SDs, promotes the metastasis of the low metastatic LLCs both in vitro and in vivo. ROLLCSC can be transferred from LLC-SD to LLC through encapsulation in extracellular vesicles (EVs), ultimately leading to the enhancement of the metastatic phenotype of LLCs. Mechanistically, we demonstrate that the pro-metastatic activity of ROLLCSC is achieved through its function as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) of miR-5623-3p and miR-217-5p to stimulate lipid metabolism., Conclusion: In this study, we have characterized ROLLCSC, a novel lncRNA, as a pivotal regulator in the metastasis of lung cancer, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target. Polyrotaxanes, which consist of mechanically interlocked bonds with rings threaded onto soft polymer chains, exhibit unique mechanical properties and find applications in diverse fields. In this study, we investigate the anomalous segmental dynamics of supercooled polyrotaxane melts using coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations. Our simulations reveal that the presence of rings effectively reduces the packing efficiency, resulting in well-contained local motion even below the glass transition temperature. We also observe variations in dynamical free volume, characterized by the Debye-Waller factor, which shows a minimum at a ring coverage of 0.1 on threading chains. Such a non-monotonic dependence on coverage shows great consistency in structural relaxation time and dynamic heterogeneity. Specifically, the high segmental mobility of threading linear chains at large coverage can be attributed to the increased dynamical free volume due to supported rigid rings. However, such anomalous segmental dynamics is limited to length scales smaller than one ring size. Beyond this characteristic length scale, the diffusion is dominated by topological constraints, which significantly reduce the mobility of polyrotaxanes and enhance the dynamic heterogeneity. These findings offer microscopic insights into the unique packing structures and anomalous segmental dynamics of supercooled polyrotaxane melts, facilitating the design of advanced materials based on mechanical interlocking polymers for various applications., (© 2023 Author(s). Optical multicasting, which involves delivering an input signal to multiple different channels simultaneously, is a key function to improve network performance. By exploiting individual spatial modes as independent channels, mode-division-multiplexing (MDM) can solve the capacity crunch of traditional standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) transmission system. In order to realize mode multicasting with high flexibility in future hybrid wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) and MDM networks, we propose a mode multicasting scheme without parasitic wavelength conversion, based on the inter-modal four-wave mixing (FWM) arising in the few-mode fiber (FMF). The operation mechanism including nonlinear phase shift for efficient mode multicasting is analytically identified. Then, based on the derived operation condition, we numerically investigate the impact of the dual-pump power and the FMF length on the performance of mode multicasting. By properly setting the pump wavelength and the dual-pump power, mode multicasting performance, in terms of mode multicasting efficiency, 3-dB bandwidth, and destination wavelength, can be tuned according to various application scenarios. After the performance optimization, mode multicasting of 25-Gbaud and 100-Gbaud 16-quadratic-amplitude modulation (16-QAM) signals is numerically demonstrated. The proposed reconfigurable mode multicasting is promising for future WDM-MDM networks.

Transmitter dispersion eye closure quaternary (TDECQ) is a vital metric to characterize the quality of four-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-4) optical signals. However, the traditional TDECQ assessment scheme is complex and time consuming, with heavy iterative operations. Therefore, accelerating the TDECQ assessment has great significance for photonic data-center interconnection (DCI) applications. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a TDECQ assessment based on linear-convolutional neural network (L-CNN) with the 1 × 1 convolutional kernel to reduce the implementation complexity. Our experimental results verify that the lightweight L-CNN can realize the accurate TDECQ assessment, without the involvement of nonlinear activation functions (NAFs). The mean absolute error (MAE) of 26.5625 and 53.125 GBaud PAM-4 signals are 0.16 dB and 0.18 dB, respectively, over a TDECQ range from 1.5 to 4.0 dB. Meanwhile, in comparison with existing CNN-based schemes, the L-CNN based TDECQ assessment scheme only needs 2048 multiplications, which have been reduced by five orders of magnitude.

Epilepsy is a profound disorder, accounting for roughly 1% of the global disease burden. It can result in premature death and significant disability. To comprehensively understand the current dynamics and trends of idiopathic epilepsy, a deep insight into its epidemiological attributes is vital. We evaluated the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years associated with idiopathic epilepsy from 1990 to 2019 using data and methodologies from the Global Burden of Disease Study. In 2019, there were approximately 2,898,222 individuals diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. Intriguingly, from 1990 to 2019, the age-standardized incidence rate of idiopathic epilepsy was consistently lower in women compared to men. Over these three decades, global mortality connected to idiopathic epilepsy increased by 13.95%. However, within the same period, age-standardized death rates for idiopathic epilepsy decreased from 1.94 per 100,000 population to 1.46 per 100,000 population. Predictions indicate an increase in the incidence of idiopathic epilepsy across all age brackets through 2035, especially among the elderly aged 80 and above. Mortality rates are projected to climb for those aged 80 and above while remaining relatively unchanged in other age demographics. Idiopathic epilepsy continues to be a significant contributor to both disability and death. The findings of our study underscore the critical importance of incorporating idiopathic epilepsy management into modern healthcare frameworks. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture at Sifeng for pediatric anorexia., Methods: The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture at Sifeng for pediatric anorexia from their beginning to October 2022 were looked up in the seven databases. The Cochrane risk of bias evaluation tool was applied to the risk of bias analysis of the included studies. A meta-analysis of the total efficiency, score of food intake reduction, time to normalize food intake, body weight, leptin levels, and blood zinc levels was performed using Review Manager 5.3 software. The GRADE criteria were applied to assess the evidence's quality., Results: A total of 24 RCTs were included, involving 2202 children. The allocation of concealment, blinding, and selective reporting has a high or unclear risk of bias. All experiments compared acupuncture at Sifeng with traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine. The results showed that, compared with medicine, acupuncture at Sifeng could significantly improve the total efficiency (OR=6.44, 95%CI [4.78,8.66]), lower the score of food intake reduction (MD=-0.69, 95%CI [-1.00, -0.39]), decrease leptin levels (MD=-5.19, 95%CI [-8.09, -2.29]) and time to normal food intake (MD=-2.22, 95%CI [-2.42, -2.01]), increase blood zinc (MD=0.79, 95%CI [0.21, 1.37]) and body weight (MD=1.28, 95%CI [0.85, 1.72]). Seven studies found that the treatment was safe both during and after. Based on the GRADE criteria, the quality of the evidence for the majority of indicators was extremely poor., Conclusion: The low certainty of evidence suggested that acupuncture at Sifeng was effective and safe in the therapy of pediatric anorexia. Carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation is very important for the optical fiber communications and has been studied widely in linear coherent systems, while only a few works have been reported for nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT) based systems. In continuous spectrum (CS) modulation nonlinear frequency division multiplexing (CS-NFDM) systems, frequency offset (FO) has a great influence on its performance, requiring an improved frequency offset estimation (FOE) method. We found that the oversampling rate R 0 adopted in NFDM to ensure the accuracy of the NFT and inverse NFT (INFT) calculations, would cause the estimation accuracy of the traditional FFT-FOE method to decrease by R 0 times. Moreover, CS-NFDM signals with higher baud rate require more subcarriers and then result in an oversampling factor greater than 16. This makes the traditional FFT-FOE method be ineffective to use the common training sequence (TS) overhead to meet the FOE error requirement of CS-NFDM system. Therefore, a modified FOE method based on FFT assisted by TS and autocorrelation has been proposed. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed method is applicable to CS-NFDM system, no matter what modulation format is used. For 512 subcarriers, with a high rate of 70GBaud and the TS length of 8192, the proposed method can obtain a minimum FO estimation error about 0.1 MHz, which is better than the other two typical FFT-FOE and Schmidl & Cox methods. In addition, the proposed method can save at least 87.5% and 50% overhead. Thus, the proposed method has obvious improvement for CS-NFDM system with requiring high oversampling rate.

Background: Exosomes are a new class of molecular entities in the metastatic microenvironment, which can mediate bidirectional communication between cells. While exosomes-mediated interactions between tumor cells and other cell populations in the tumor microenvironment have attracted most attention, little is known about the significance of exosomes in mediating the interaction between non-stemness cancer cells and cancer stem cells during cancer progression., Methods: The structure, sequence and downstream target miRNAs of lncRNA Mir100hg were predicted by online web resources. The bioinformatics prediction results were validated with experimental verification: exosome tracing, electron microscopy, Luciferase assay, metabolomics sequencing and mouse tail vein model of pulmonary metastasis. A complex regulatory network of "cancer stem cells-exosomal lncRNA-non-stem cancer cells" was constructed., Results: This study demonstrates firstly that lncRNA Mir100hg is upregulated in lung cancer stem cell LLC-SD (Lung cancer stem cells) and can be delivered to non-stemness cancer cells LLC (Lewis lung cancer cells) via exosomes. In LLC, Mir100hg targets miR-15a-5p and miR-31-5p which leads to the increase of the global glycolytic activity of lung cancer cells and consequently, the enhancement of their metastatic capability., Conclusion: We delineated a complex regulatory network that utilized by cancer stem cells to transfer their high metastatic activity to the low-metastatic non-stemness cancer cells through exosomal Mir100hg, thereby providing new mechanistic insights into the communication between two heterogeneous tumor cells. In humans, almost all the cell surface and secreted glycoproteins are modified with complex-type N-glycans. Thus, it is essential to obtain complex-type N-glycans to fully understand the biological properties of glycoproteins. Here, human β-1,2-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase II (hGnT-II), a Golgi-localized enzyme integral to complex-type N-glycan biosynthesis, was cloned as a truncated transmembrane form (GnT-II-ΔTM) and heterologously overexpressed in Escherichia coli. Our results showed that hGnT-II could be overexpressed in its soluble form by fusing the truncated enzyme with a thioredoxin (Trx)-tag in the Rosetta-Gami 2 strain. Using the optimized induction conditions, the expression level of recombinant protein was enhanced to yield approximately 4 mg per liter culture after affinity purification. The enzyme exhibited appropriate glycosyltransferase activity, and the calculated K m value was 52.4 μM, similar to the protein expressed in mammalian cells. Furthermore, the effect of MGAT2-CDG mutations on enzyme activity was also measured. An iterative-based method for recovering the complex amplitude field behind scattering media is presented in this Letter. This method compensates the random phase modulation of scattering media by using multiple captured scattered light fields. Complex amplitude reconstruction with local iterative averaging of scattered light fields, and double weighted feedback is efficiently applied. Two feasible types of system setups, with varying detector positions and wavelength, are proposed. Simulations and proof-of-concept experiments are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in reconstructing complex amplitude of a hidden target.

Long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) are one of the main energy-supplying substances in the body. LCFAs with different lengths and saturations may have contrasting biological effects that exacerbate or alleviate progress against a variety of systemic disorders of lipid metabolism in organisms. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is characterized by chronic inflammation and steatosis, mainly caused by the ectopic accumulation of lipids in the liver, especially LCFAs. CD36 is a scavenger receptor that recognizes and mediates the transmembrane absorption of LCFAs and is expressed in a variety of cells throughout the body. In previous studies, our group found that 7-ketocholesteryl-9-carboxynonanoate (oxLig-1) has the biological effect of targeting CD36 to inhibit oxidized low-density lipoprotein lipotoxicity-induced lipid metabolism disorder; it has an ω-carboxyl physiologically active center and is structurally similar to LCFAs. However, the biological mechanism of oxLig-1 binding to CD36 and competing for binding to different types of LCFAs is still not clear. In this study, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation were utilized to simulate and analyze the binding activity between oxLig-1 and different types of LCFAs to CD36 and confirmed by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) platform was applied to predict the drug-forming properties of oxLig-1, and HepG2 cells model of oleic acid and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) model mice were validated to verify the biological protection of oxLig-1 on lipid lowering. The results showed that there was a co-binding site of LCFAs and oxLig-1 on CD36, and the binding driving forces were mainly hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions. The binding abilities of polyunsaturated LCFAs, oxLig-1, monounsaturated LCFAs, and saturated LCFAs to CD36 showed a decreasing trend in this order. There was a similar decreasing trend in the stability of the molecular dynamics simulation. ELISA results similarly confirmed that the binding activity of oxLig-1 to CD36 was significantly higher than that of typical monounsaturated and saturated LCFAs. ADMET prediction results indicated that oxLig-1 had a good drug-forming property. HepG2 cells model of oleic acid and NAFLD model mice study results demonstrated the favorable lipid-lowering biological effects of oxLig-1. Due to the poor bifunctional electrocatalytic performances of electrocatalysts in zinc-air battery, herein, we first synthesized Ni/Ni 12 P 5 @CN x Mott-Schottky heterojunction to ameliorate the high-cost and instability of precious metals. We modulated the different contents of Ni and Ni 12 P 5 in the Ni/Ni 12 P 5 @CN x Mott-Schottky heterojunction, and found that 0.6 Ni/Ni 12 P 5 @CN x has outstanding electrocatalytic performances, with half-wave potential of 0.83 V, and OER potential of 1.49 V at 10 mA cm -2 . Also, the ΔE value is only 0.66 V. Moreover, 0.6 Ni/Ni 12 P 5 @CN x is assembled into ZAB, which has a high power density of 181 mW cm -2 and a high specific capacity of 710 mAh g -1 . This indicates it has a good cycle stability. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that electrons spontaneously flow from Ni to Ni 12 P 5 through the formed buffer layer in the Ni/Ni 12 P 5 @CN x Mott-Schottky heterojunction. Nowadays, China is faced with two strategic tasks:improving ecological environmental quality and realizing carbon neutrality and carbon peaking. Synergy to reduce pollution and carbon emissions has become an inevitable choice for the comprehensive green transition of economic and social development in China. The electric power sector will play an important role in the transition process. Based on different power demand scenarios, a multi-objective model was constructed to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality at a low cost, and the optimal path scheme of carbon emission reduction synergy was obtained. The results showed that under the premise of achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as scheduled, pollution reduction and carbon reduction had good synergies, and their synergistic control could effectively facilitate the realization of the low-carbon transition. Optimizing the power generation structure of the electric power sector was the key measure to achieving the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction. During the study period, the proportion of thermal power decreased continuously, and the proportion of clean power exceeded 92.5%. The emissions of carbon dioxide and major air pollutants were significantly different under different power demands. Carbon dioxide emissions were most affected by power demand. The peak carbon dioxide emissions under low power demand, medium power demand, and high power demand were 9.416 billion, 10.409 billion, and 10.746 billion t, respectively. The emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and particulate matter also showed an increasing trend in the low power demand, medium power demand, and high power demand scenarios. The increase in power demand only increased the pressure of power generation structure adjustment within the electric power sector, without affecting the output and activity level of other sectors, that is, the pressure of emission reduction in the electric power sector caused by power demand did not show the trend of transmission between sectors.

Heterochronic parabiosis has shown that aging individuals can be rejuvenated by a youthful circulatory system; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we evaluated the effect of exosomes isolated from mouse induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) on angiogenesis in naturally aged mice. To achieve this, the angiogenic capacity of aortic ring, the total antioxidant capacity (TAOC), p53 and p16 expression levels of major organs, the proliferation of adherent bone marrow cells, and the function and content of serum exosomes in aged mice administered iPSC-derived exosomes were examined. Additionally, the effect of iPSC-derived exosomes on injured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was assessed. The angiogenic capacity of aortic rings and clonality of bone marrow cells from young mice were significantly higher than those from aged mice; moreover, the organs of aged mice had a higher expression of aging genes and lower total TAOC. However, in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that the administration of iPSC-derived exosomes significantly improved these parameters in aged mice. The synergistic effect of both in vivo and in vitro treatments of aortic rings with iPSC-derived exosomes improved the angiogenic capacity of aortic rings from aged mice to levels similar to that of young mice. Compared with untreated aged mice, serum exosomal protein content and their promoted effect on endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis were significantly higher in untreated young mice and aged mice treated with iPSC-derived exosomes. Overall, these results showed that iPSC-derived exosomes may rejuvenate the body by anti-aging the vascular system.

Microwave photonic real-time Fourier transformation (RTFT) processing based on optical dispersion is a promising solution for microwave spectrum analysis. However, it usually brings the drawbacks of limited frequency resolution and large processing latency. Here, we demonstrate a low-latency microwave photonic RTFT processing based on bandwidth slicing and equivalent dispersion. The input RF signal is first divided into different channels with the help of bandwidth slicing technique, and then finely analyzed by the fiber-loop based frequency-to-time mapping. In the proof-of-concept experiment, a 0.44-m fiber-loop offers an equivalent dispersion as high as 6 × 10 5  ps/nm with a small transmission latency of 50 ns. As a result, we can realize a wide instantaneous bandwidth of 1.35 GHz, a high frequency resolution of approximately 20 MHz, and a high acquisition frame rate of approximately 450 MHz, together with a total latency of less than 200 ns.

This study aimed to explore and describe the experiences of LGBTQ student-athletes to identify ways in which athletic staff, coaches, and others can support LGBTQ youth's safe participation in sports. Guided by the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews (PRISMA) and eMERGe reporting guidance. We conducted a meta-ethnography to synthesize qualitative research focused on student-athletes' experiences. Fourteen studies were included in the meta-ethnography published between 1973 and 2022. Four themes were identified: (1) experiences of discrimination and violence; (2) perceived stigma; (3) internalized prejudice; and (4) coping and team support, and they were used to generate a line of argument model, which explains the stress process of LGBTQ student-athletes in the sports. LGBTQ student-athletes experience persistent discrimination in college sports, which poses a significant risk to their mental health. Meanwhile, this study identified that qualitative research on LGBTQ youth sports participation is lacking in many regions of the world and lacks knowledge of the sports participation experience of bisexual, gay, and transgender students. The mortality rate associated with acute lung injury (ALI) and its severe form, acute respiratory distress syndrome, is high. Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) therapy is a potential treatment method for ALI, but its therapeutic efficacy is limited in injured lungs. Nitric oxide (NO) has various physiological actions. The current study investigated the effect of iPSCs pretreated with NO donors in paraquat (PQ)-induced ALI mouse model. Male C57BL/6 mice were intraperitoneally injected with PQ, followed by infusion of phosphate-buffered saline, iPSCs, L-arginine pretreated iPSCs, or Nitro-L-arginine methylester (L-NAME) pretreated iPSCs through the tail veins. Histopathological changes, pulmonary microvascular permeability, and inflammatory cytokine levels were analyzed after 3 or 28 d. The effects on iPSC proliferation, migration, and adhesion were evaluated in vitro . More L-arginine-pretreated iPSCs were selectively trafficked into the injured pulmonary tissue of mice with LPS-induced ALI, drastically diminishing the histopathologic changes and inflammatory cytokine levels (IL-1β and IL-6). There was also markedly improved pulmonary microvascular permeability and pulmonary function. The NO inhibitor abolished the protective effects of iPSCs. In addition, the ability of L-arginine to promote the proliferation and migration of iPSCs was decreased by L-NAME pretreatment, suggesting that NO might mediate the therapeutic benefits of iPSC. The improvement of the iPSC physiological changes by the endogenous gaseous molecule NO reduces lung injury severity. The tumor microenvironment (TME), the environment of tumorigenesis and tumor progression, incorporates multiple types of cells and non-cellular components. TME plays an important role in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Due to the abnormal proliferation of tumors, the TME has a unique chemophysiology environment and complex metabolic patterns, which subsequently affects the role of immune cells. Understanding the metabolic patterns of TME can help us develop immunotherapy regimens that target TME. Microbial metabolism and lipid metabolism, the key metabolic processes of TME, have emerged as important foci of research. The metabolites released by the microbiome and the reprogramming of cellular lipid metabolism affect the subsistence of tumor and immune cells. In this review, we summarized the composition and metabolic characteristics of TME and discussed the latest research progress in microbial metabolism and lipid metabolism in TME. We also provided an update on relevant metabolic regulatory targets and immunotherapy strategies, stressing that identifying highly effective therapeutic targets, in spite of the apparent difficulty, is what future research should be focused on., (Copyright© by Editorial Board of Journal of Sichuan University (Medical Sciences).)

We propose a digital-carrier Kramers-Kronig (DC-KK) scheme based high-speed multimode fiber short-reach optical interconnect system with fundamental mode transmission. After optimization of the parameters, including the roll-off factor of the root-raised-cosine (RRC) filter, and the guard interval (GI) between signal and carrier tone, as well as the carrier signal power ratio (CSPR), 200-Gb/s 32-quadrature amplitude modulation (32QAM) signal transmission over 12-km OM2 fiber has been experimentally demonstrated with a bit error ratio (BER) below the soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) threshold of 4 × 10 -2 . To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest experimental record of single lambda bitrate-distance-product (SLBDP) achieved by direct-detection (DD)-based transmission over a standard multimode fiber (MMF). The proposed scheme has potential to improve the system performance without replacing massive deployed legacy MMFs for future large-capacity data center interconnects (DCIs).

Introduction: Many scholars have explored the participation of LGBTQ individuals in sports. However, these studies have either categorized homosexuality and bisexuality together or focused only on lesbian, gay, or transgender individuals. There is a lack of research in the literature on bisexual individuals' sports participation and an even more significant lack of Asia perspectives. Therefore, this qualitative study is aimed to explore the experiences of female bisexual student-athletes in China., Methods: Semi-structured interviews with four female bisexual student-athletes were conducted and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA)., Results: Three themes and eight sub-themes were identified. Theme 1. what bisexual identity means, and sub-themes: a struggling journey, emotional attraction, and gender role for female bisexual student-athletes; Theme 2. invalid identity, and sub-themes: lesbian mask, unrecognized identity; Theme 3. perceptions of sports context, and sub-themes: the influence of the sports context on sexual fluidity, relative inclusion, and perceived rejection., Conclusion: This study provides new insights into understanding the experience of female bisexual student-athlete. We characterize the differential modal group delay (DMGD) arising in few-mode fibers (FMFs) based on the digital re-sampling technique, which is commonly used in current digital signal processing flow at the receiver-side. When the DMGD of a 291-m two-mode fiber is characterized over the C-band by using a 500-Mb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ) signal and 1-GSa/s real-time oscilloscope, the experimental results are consistent with the DMGD obtained from the traditional time-of-flight (TOF) method. However, the wide-bandwidth instruments of the traditional TOF method can be replaced by cheap ones with a bandwidth of only a few hundred MHz, but the same temporal precision is achieved. Moreover, our proposed DMGD characterization method is not limited by the number of guided modes arising in the FMF, together with the capability to obtain both the DMGD value and its sign between two arbitrary guided modes.

A Volterra nonlinear equalizer (VNLE) can effectively mitigate both linear and nonlinear impairments arising in intensity-modulation direct-detection (IM-DD) transmission systems. However, the high computational complexity of the VNLE hinders its applications. Here, we propose a hardware-efficient Volterra equalizer with weight-sharing pruning (VE-WSP). Such an equalizer first uses the k-means++ clustering algorithm for the weight sharing within the same cluster, and then ranks the cluster centroid weight for pruning, leading to a significant computational complexity reduction without sacrificing any equalization performance. We experimentally verified that the use of VE-WSP can enable the C-band 100-GBaud/λ PAM-4 transmission over a 1-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF), to reach the 20% soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) threshold. Meanwhile, the proposed VE-WSP can reduce the computational complexity by 51% and 21%, in terms of multiplication and addition, respectively, in comparison with the VNLE.
