Introduction: Work-related open-globe injuries are a major cause of preventable vision loss worldwide with a significant socioeconomic impact., Aim: To describe the demographics and clinical characteristics, identify the prognostic factors of work-related open-globe injuries and suggest preventive measures to minimize the incidence of these accidents., Methods: A retrospective study of patients hospitalized in the Ophthalmology Department of Habib Bourguiba University Hospital, Sfax, Tunisia, for occupational open-globe injuries, between January 2020 and December 2022. A medical history and a complete ophthalmological examination were performed on all patients. Initial visual acuity (IVA) was systematically measured. We also studied the factors associated with poor final visual acuity (FVA). Poor visual prognosis was defined as an FVA of less than 1/10 six months after the trauma. Statistical analysis was performed using the system of Statistical Products and Services Solution (SPSS 26.0). A p-value less than 0.05 indicated statistical significance., Results: Thirty-three eyes of 33 patients with work-related open-globe injuries were analyzed. The mean age was 39 ± 11.75 years, with male predominance. Almost half of them, 48.5% were welders. Mechanism of injury was penetrating trauma in 72.7% of cases. The mean presenting IVA was 1/25. Corneal wounds were present in 20 cases. Traumatic cataract was the most common associated lesion and was found in 36.4% of the patients. Intraocular foreign body was noted in 24.2%. The mean FVA was 1.6/10. Initial VA (p=0.04) and VH (p=0.004) was the significant predictive factors for final visual outcome in work-related open-globe injury patients., Conclusion: Work-related open-globe injuries are a significant problem commonly encountered in healthcare settings throughout the world. It can cause significant morbidity in a young population of patients. This type of injury can be largely prevented with proper education and use of safety equipment.

Background: Workplace safety is a global public health issue. Re-constructing an accident can prove extremely complicated, especially when the event occurs without direct witnesses or when the scene is altered. In these cases, it is essential to adopt proper investigation pro-tocols in order to ensure the correct reconstruction of the dynamics., Case Report: A man was found unconscious on the ground, having fallen from a height of approximately 2 meters, where there was a cabin in which a conveyor belt of raw materials for the production of cement ran. At the end of the path of this belt a scraper was found. An autopsy was carried out and the scraper present at the scene was examined and compared with the injuries on the victim. After the autopsy, the investigators returned to the scene and collected the traces found in the cabin. At the end of collecting the traces, the investigators simulated the dynamics of the event by turning on the conveyor belt and placing a scraper of the same dimensions and characteristics as the one found at the scene inside the cabin., Conclusion: The autopsy showed a maxillofacial trauma with multiple bruises on the face and a serious fracture of the epistropheus tooth. This trauma was therefore incompatible with a simple fall from 2 meters. The investigators created an experimental model that demonstrated a very high energy rebound of the tape when placed in contact with the scraper. This reconstruction made it possible to carry out a single report with the data collected by the medical examiner and the investigators, which was effective and exhaustive, allowing the Authority to be provided with the evidence to continue the investigations about the responsibilities of the worker and the employer.

Objectives. Turkey canceled the daylight saving time (DST) transition and started permanent clock application. Considering the effect of this new regulation on working hours, this study examines whether there is a relationship with the increase in the number of work accidents in shifts. Methods. Data on work accidents were obtained from the Republic of Turkey Social Security Institution (SSI), filed between 2011 and 2020. We estimate accident rates using Poisson regression and log-linear models as a function of a variety of date-based factors. Results. The results show that DST transition is effective (ineffective in terms of gender) on changes in the number of work accidents. With statistical analyses, the hourly distribution of work accidents was determined, indicating at which hour the most work accidents occurred, using the work accident frequency rate. The number of prevented work accidents was calculated as 286,793 for Turkey. Conclusion. The findings from these studies suggest that cancellation of the DST transition does not have a negative effect on the incidence of work accidents in Turkey; on the contrary, this practice also serves the purpose of preventing work accidents.

Numerous activities in food services can affect worker health and safety, given that daily food preparation routines involve the use of sharp instruments, steam, hot liquids, noise, frozen items, harsh cleaning chemicals, and heavy lifting. The objective of this study was to identify relationships among work activities that affect health and safety among food service workers. The methodology consisted of an integrative review of documentary and bibliographic research, using National Classification of Economic Activities as a data collection criterion and Ministry of Labor and Employment data on work accidents in food services between 2010 and 2020. Work accidents, which may or may not be accompanied by a work accident report, are classified according to type: at work, commuting to work, or occupational illness. During the study period, 169,609 work accidents occurred among food industry workers, which was 12% of the total number of work accidents recorded nationwide in all sectors. The most frequent accident types among food service workers were cuts, burns, falls, and those due to incorrect posture. Training, best practices, professional ethics, functional planning, and periodic and preventive maintenance are important strategies for providing the best working conditions in food services., Competing Interests: Conflicts of interest: None

Objective: The purpose of this work is to carry out a descriptive analysis of occupational accidents and to evaluate the relationship between heatwaves and work accidents in Spain's three most populated provinces: Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia., Methods: Daily data of work accidents (including for each case: gender, age, date, length of time in the position, type of work, place of accident and duration of medical leave) was collected. A heatwave was defined when daily mean temperatures above the threshold (95th percentile) of the climatological period (1990-2021) were recorded for at least three consecutive days. To estimate the association between daily workplace accidents and heatwave events, we applied a Generalized Additive Model combined with a Distributed Lag Non-linear Model with a quasi-Poisson distribution., Results: The average annual accident rate was 33.2 work accidents/100,000 employees in Madrid, 35.8 work accidents/100,000 employees in Barcelona and 31.8 work accidents/100,000 employees in Valencia. The total accident rates followed a downward trend between 2005 and 2021. The difference in work accident rates between sex decreased over the studied period (p < 0.005). In the first month of work, the highest casualty rate occurs among construction workers in Madrid and Barcelona, and in primary sector workers in Valencia. Work accidents tend to increase during heatwaves. Background: Each year, there are billions of agricultural work accidents involving the operation of tractors, grain augers, harvest combines, power take-off devices, or balers and thrashers. Field accidents of this nature seem more common on afternoons, just as road accidents tend to skew toward nighttime. The lesions can vary widely and depends strictly on the operation of the machinery analyzed., Aims: This paper aims to present a peculiar case of decapitation by a combine harvester, showing how, in cases of injury due to agricultural machinery, it is fundamental a correct execution of a scene investigation, autoptic examination, and cooperation with a specialist in engineering., Case Report: A 54-year-old man was found decapitated on the header of a combine harvester; his extremities were also dismembered. At autopsy, a clean oblique cut across the first cervical vertebra had severed the head at the neck. Although the right arm remained intact, both lower extremities were mutilated, showing numerous exposed and open fractures. A bleeding, penetrating wound to the back was additionally noted. In the days that followed, missing parts (head and left leg) were discovered in other machine components (grain tank and straw walker, respectively). All observed injuries were compatible with the mechanics of the cochlea, its rotating movement inflicting the damages above. Collaboration between pathologists and engineers was fundamental to recreating the dynamics of this rare decapitation accident by a combine harvester.

Coal mining has the most risk in all of the mining sectors. Hence, in this sector, most work accidents encountered are intensive. The demographic characteristics of workers affect the occurrence of occupational accidents. This study aims to develop an equation that predicts workday loss by analyzing the relationship between workers' demographic characteristics and having an accident with workday loss. In this study, work-related accidents between 2014 and 2019 in underground hard coal mines in Turkey were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. An equation is derived that estimates the workday loss with the characteristics of workers in hard coal mines. With the equation derived in this study, employers can determine the potential for work accidents according to the demographic characteristics of the workers and serious work accidents will be prevented. Therefore, proactive solutions can be produced by applying the methods used in this study to different industries.

A great number of burns affect the hands, either as part of a more extensive burn or as an isolated injury. These injuries can lead to physical, social and psychological consequences that may reduce quality of life and make difficult the return to work. The goal of this study was to investigate the main epidemiologic characteristics of adult patients with hand burns admitted to a dedicated burn centre, evaluate the outcomes of the treatment, and identify the predictors associated with the worst outcomes. This study found that a considerable amount of burn victims admitted had hand burns (41.5%). Males are more likely to be injured in general, but females are more prevalent in burns by hot liquids. The most common comorbidity was hypertension, followed by dyslipidemia and type II diabetes. Cooking is the activity associated with more accidental victims. Most injuries did not require surgical intervention. Approximately two-thirds of the patients did not have any important sequelae. The most common complications were scar disturbances (26%) and scar contractures (14%). The need for surgery, a higher number of surgeries and higher surface area burn were associated with the worst outcomes. The objective of this study is to elucidate the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and the risk of work-related injuries (WRIs), synthesize the latest clinical evidence and conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines (PRISMA 2020). Observational studies published before April 2020 in PubMed, Cochrane library, PsycINFO, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science were included. Random-effects Mantel-Haenszel meta-analysis was performed. A total of 15 studies with 21,507 participants were included. Prespecified subgroup analyses based on study design and the characteristics of the enrollees were conducted. Overall, workers with OSA had 1.64-fold increased odds of being involved in WRIs compared to their counterparts (OR = 1.64, 95% CI = 1.24-2.16, p = 0.0005). In addition to the professional drivers that have been studied in the past, such a trend also existed in the general working population (OR = 1.68, 95% CI = 1.14-2.49, p = 0.01). We also found that workers with excessive daytime sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale score >10) had a 1.68-fold increased risk of WRIs compared to those with lower ESS scores (OR = 1.68, 95% CI = 1.22-2.30, p = 0.002). This study verified that OSA workers had a higher risk of WRIs, and such correlations do not show obvious differences in subgroups with different sample sizes, OSA diagnosis methods, job types or definitions of WRI. Background: Occupational accidents continue to be a significant public health challenge worldwide. Construction workers in particular are at high risk of occupational accidents, and thus it is of major importance to identify possible predictors of occupational accidents among construction workers. We aimed to investigate the association between self-reported work pace and physical work demands and occupational accidents among ageing male construction workers in Denmark., Methods: Data on perceived work pace, physical work demands, and occupational accidents was acquired from questionnaires sent to ageing construction workers in Denmark in 2016 as part of the ALFA project (ALdring og Fysisk Arbejde; Ageing and Physical Work). A sample of 1270 Danish male construction workers above 50 years of age was included in the present study. Multiple logistic regression models were applied, with adjustments for age, smoking, body mass index, musculoskeletal disorders, occupation, work experience, and support at work., Results: Of 1270 construction workers, 166 (13.1%) reported an occupational accident within the last 12 months. There was no significant association between perceived work pace and occupational accidents, but physical work demands were associated with higher odds for occupational accidents, with an odds ratio of 2.27 (95% confidence interval 1.26-4.10) for medium physical work demands and 2.62 (95% confidence interval 1.50-4.57) for high physical work demands., Conclusions: Ageing male construction workers with high physical work demands had statistically significant higher odds of having an occupational accident. Background: Craniocerebral injuries belong to the category of bodily injuries which are characterised by high mortality and a high percentage of permanent effects in the form of disability. The likelihood of this injury exists in the workplace too. Performing works at a height or using high-pressure or mechanical machinery exposes employees to a higher risk of a craniocerebral injury., Case Report: This case study deals with the topic of open craniocerebral trauma suffered by a 20-year-old man who was wearing no head protection at his place of work. It details the management of this trauma at the site of the accident, during transfer to the hospital and during hospitalisation., Conclusion: Fast transport, effective diagnostics and implementation of surgical treatment contributed to a good final result.

Introduction: The Richard-Toll social security fund agency ranks second in terms of declaration of work accidents (WA) in Senegal. In view of this and in the absence of a study that is interested in this subject, we initiated this work, the aim of which was to study these WA declared in the said agency., Methodology: This was a retrospective and descriptive study carried out from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020. The parameters studied were the socio-professional information of the victims and the characteristics of the accidents., Results: A total of 1,071 workplace accidents were recorded. The average age of the victims was 37.1 years old. Agricultural workers and laborers were more concerned (95.5%). Site accidents accounted for 95% of cases. Lesions were mainly wounds (83.3%) and were benign in 98.2% of cases. The machete was incriminated in 48.5% of cases. Accidents occurred while cutting sugar cane in 81% of cases. The Senegalese sugar company was the main reporter (99%) and 84.4% of accidents were recorded periodically from December to May., Conclusion: Work accidents are a reality in the Senegalese sugar company. Studies are urgently needed to better understand this issue. According to the ILO (International Labor Organization), an occupational accident is that which occurs in the course of work and results in either a fatal or non-fatal injury. Occupational-related deaths are increasingly a concerning issue, also worldwide, with severe social repercussions: it is clear that when a person loses their life, it has a permanent impact on all their family, as well as incurring direct and indirect costs for employers, workers and the community at large. The aim of the present retrospective-observational study is to investigate, from an autoptic and forensic point of view, the characteristics of occupational-related deaths of victims received between the 10-year period of 2011-2020 by the Municipal Morgue of Genoa, which forms part of the Institute of Forensic and Legal Medicine, for the purpose of providing a Forensic and Coroner's overview of this important phenomenon. The study comprises of a list of 47 people who died as a result of an occupational injury: 46 males and 1 female. It was observed that workers in the construction and steel manufacturing industries were in the category most at risk of fatal accidents (40.5%). In 41 cases (87.2%), death was related to major mechanical trauma, from falling from a height (42.5%) objects falling directly onto the victim (38.3%) and lastly, from pedestrian road accidents (6.4%). Fatal head traumas with endocranial haemorrhage accounted for deaths in 23 of all the cases studied (63.4%). As shown in our study, death in the workplace is still today having to be considered as an important social issue and it is still necessary to improve the workers' knowledge of the related hazards and risks involved at work, together with preventative procedures. An in-depth analysis of such risks in the workplace, as well as the monitoring and training of workers is fundamental if we are to achieve an overall improvement in working conditions., (Copyright © 2021. Introduction: The main aim of the present study was to compare motives between patients requesting secondary finger amputation following or unrelated to a work accident. The secondary objective was to assess correlation between sick leave duration and motive for amputation following a work accident., Method: A single-center retrospective study was conducted over an 11-year period in a hand clinic. Cases of secondary totalizing post-traumatic finger amputation at metacarpal base level were included. Exclusion criteria comprised non-traumatic amputation, age<16 years and thumb amputation. In all, 216 patients met the inclusion criteria. The main endpoints assessed motives in requests for secondary metacarpal base amputation: esthetic, functional or administrative. Secondary endpoints comprised accident-to-surgery interval, gender and age, amputated digit and dominant-side involvement., Results: Motive correlated significantly with gender (p<0.05). Administrative motives almost exclusively concerned males (21 males, 1 female) and predominantly concerned work accidents (19 vs. 3). Accident-to-surgery intervals were significantly longer in case of administrative motive (25.7 months, vs. 10.8 months for functional and 9 months for esthetic motives). Accident-to-surgery intervals were significantly longer in case of work accidents (15.2 vs. 9.5 months)., Discussion: Age and gender influenced patients' attitudes in post-traumatic finger amputation. Work-accident status influenced attitudes in a quarter of cases; we consider it unlikely that this can be reduced to claims for compensation, but that it is rather a matter of undiagnosed pathological grief. Background: Poultry activity exposes workers to accidents and unhealthy conditions with physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and psychological risks., Objective: The objective was to list risk factors in poultry farms in operational, behavioral, and environmental aspects., Methods: We evaluated poultry farm workers through quantitative and qualitative analysis applying a semi-structured online questionnaire containing 58 questions to identify risks in the workplace and health implications., Results: Most facilities were air-conditioned, workers performed their activities in a totally closed environment, with low light (1 to 10 lux), for more than 40 h/wk. Regarding accidents, 61%of workers claimed to have suffered some type of accident, 34%claimed to not use personal protection equipment, and 41%felt unable to perform their activities at some time due to health problems; handling animals and animal waste were the most significant biological risks; dust and ammonia corresponded to the most significant chemical risks; and electric shock, burns, and heat exposure were the most significant physical/accident risks., Conclusions: Workers expose themselves daily to physical, chemical, biological, psychosocial, and ergonomic risks. These exposures often lead to symptoms such as stress, headache, eye and mucous membrane disorders, respiratory diseases, back and muscle pain, depression, and symptoms often associated with Sick Building Syndrome.

Objective: To assess the case of work accidents during period (2009-2022) based on work shifts, workers age, and accident types., Method: The study design was a time series design with data on work accidents at the company period 2009-2015 as the population., Results: The variable work shift in 2009-2015 was dominated by work accidents on morning shift and night shift of 0.47%. After a projection, it was found that work accidents occurring during the shift will drop from 0.22% to 0.11%. For the years 2009-2015, accidents were dominated by age group of >50 years with a percentage of 0.52%. In 2022 for that category fell by 0%. For work accidents that occurred in 2009-2015, the most cases were falling from a height with a percentage of 0.76-0.17%. In the next seven years, the projection results obtained the highest results turned into work accident with dangerous substances with a percentage of 0.17% in 2016 and increased to 0.30% in 2022., Conclusions: The trends and predictions from 2016 to 2022 were a decrease in work accidents based on work, a decrease in accidents based on the workers age, and also a decrease on the variable type of accident., (Copyright © 2021 SESPAS. Risk assessment is an essential component of the occupational health and safety event prevention activity.The purpose of this study is to choose the most appropriate risk assessment method for hospitals. The main methods were compared. There are many assessment methods, each with its advantages and disadvantages, but none has been adapted to the specificities of hospital activity. We adapted the workplace assessment sheet from the INCDPM (National Research and Development Institute for Labor Protection Bucharest) method to the specific of the hospital units and used this method at the level of jobs, within the hospital's departments, calculating the global risk level per job position, workplace (department), and hospital. The clinical departments global risk level exceeds the average (3.00) for all jobs, but does not exceed, however, 3.50, representing an acceptable security level. For assess the psychosocial risks we used the ELVIE method. Objective: Of the 607 fatal work accidents produced in Spain in 2016, 37.9% were due to ischemic heart disease and cerebral stroke. Working conditions such as night work, noise or respiratory pollutants are associated with higher cardiovascular incidence. The objective of the present study was to assess whether health surveillance in workers exposed to these conditions should include the assessment of cardiovascular risk., Methods: Cross-sectional study of 680 workers in a public administration. The working conditions were obtained from the business risk assessment and the personal data that allowed the cardiovascular risk assessment, from the medical examination carried out in 2015. For the statistical analysis, Chi-square test (prevalence comparison) and Student's T test or Mann Whitney U test (means comparison), were applied., Results: Exposed was 30.1%, showing significant differences by sex (37% men, 11.9% women, p<0.05). According to REGICOR, 13.2% of those exposed were particularly susceptible to cardiovascular risk., Conclusions: A large percentage of workers were exposed to CT related to a higher prevalence of cardiovascular pathology. The percentage of workers qualified as especially sensitive to cardiovascular risk among those exposed suggests that it should be assessed in the monitoring of occupational health when there are working conditions related to cardiovascular pathology.

Objective: Occupational accidents are highly stressful events that frequently occur and impact both the physical and mental health of workers. The aim of this study was to longitudinally assess a predictive model of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in workers who have suffered a recent accident., Method: Two hundred and forty-four workers (77.8% men), aged 18 to 73 years, who had experienced an accident during the last month that resulted in hospitalization and/or ten or more days of sick leave, were surveyed. A second survey was carried out six months later. Regression analyses included psychological predictors (i.e. subjective severity of event, brooding and positive and negative religious coping), along with objective predictors (i.e. hospitalization, sick leave days and unemployment)., Results: It was found that the main predictors of PTSS were brooding, negative religious coping, days of sick leave and unemployment, with a large effect size (R 2  = .45)., Conclusions: The discussion is based on the usefulness of including selected psychological and objective predictors for detecting people more susceptible to developing psychopathology due to the stress following an accident. Identifying at-risk people for developing PTSS after an accident may help to introduce selective preventive strategies or early interventions in this population.

(1) Background: Irregular and non-standard work arrangements have become a serious determinant to the health and safety of workers. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between shift work and occupational accident absence. A representative Belgian sample considering several sociodemographic and work characteristics is used. (2) Methods: This study is based on the data of the sixth European Working Condition Survey (EWCS). The sample is restricted to 2169 respondents from Belgium. By using multivariate logistic regression modeling techniques and adjusting several confounders, the associations between shift work and occupational accident absence are studied. (3) Results: It is found that about 11.1% of the workers undergo an occupational accident absence. A multivariate regression model demonstrates an increased occupational accident absence risk for workers who have shift work (odds ratio, or OR, 1.92, 95% CI 1.06⁻3.46). Also, gender and biomechanical exposure were significantly associated with occupational accident absence ((OR 2.07, 95% CI 1.16⁻3.69) and (OR 2.03, 95% CI 1.14⁻3.63), respectively). No significant interaction effects are found with gender and age variables. 4) Conclusion: This study confirms that doing shift work is significantly associated with occupational accidents. In order to reduce the significance of occupational accidents, shift work should be limited through national-level policies.

Our purpose in this report, involving an unusual mechanism described for the first time in the literature, is to show that high-pressure water sprays used for washing cars can cause injury to the extensor hallucis longus (EHL). A 21-year-old man presented to our emergency department (ED) due to looseness in the hallux. His history revealed that while operating a pressurized water spray machine for car-washing one week before, he had inadvertently sprayed his foot, and despite wearing protective plastic boots this had resulted in a laceration at the level of the hallux, which had been sutured in a state hospital. Cleaning equipment using pressurized water can be dangerous if sufficient safety measures are not taken. We think that such occupational accidents with serious outcomes can be prevented through simple protective measures.

Introduction Penetrating brain injury (PBI) is uncommon among the civilian population. Here, we report two interesting cases of PBI. Case presentation The first patient was a 20-year-old male who sustained a penetrating head injury with a metal bar during an accident at work. The patient underwent early surgical intervention, and related meningitis was treated with antibiotics. The patient was discharged 45 days later with no deficit. The second patient was a 34-year-old male who was the victim of a violence attack and was admitted to hospital. He was struck by a knife to his right temporal bone. A brain computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated the tract of the knife within the brain parenchyma. The patient underwent conservative treatment. After several weeks, the patient was discharged in good health. Conclusion Although severe PBI has a poorer prognosis than a blunt brain injury, in treating of these patients, aggressive and timely surgical intervention, proper wide-spectrum antibiotic administration, stringent and diligent care in the intensive-care unit and careful management of the associated complications are mandated.

Objectives: To evaluate demographic characteristics and clinical outcomes of work-related open globe injuries in the most industrialized region of Turkey., Materials and Methods: The demographic and medical records of patients with work-related open globe injuries who presented to the ophthalmology or emergency departments with an official occupational accident report were retrospectively reviewed. Visual acuity categories were defined according to the World Health Organization. The injury types and zones of the open globes were classified according to Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology System., Results: Among 479 patients with work-related eye injuries in 5 years, there were 102 eyes of 101 patients with open globe injuries (21%). The mean age of the patients was 34.5±8.9 years with a mean follow-up of 12.5±12.6 months. The injuries peaked in June in the hour between 12:00 and 13:00. Eighty-six percent presented to emergency services within 12 hours after the injury. Twenty-two percent of the patients had been wearing protective eyewear at the time of injury. The open globe injuries were penetrating in 51%, intraocular foreign body in 40%, rupture in 7% and perforation in 2% of the eyes. The most frequent finding was traumatic cataract. Final visual acuity of 33.3% of patients was below 3/60. Seventy-eight percent of patients that had visual acuity worse than 6/18 at presentation had visual acuity of 6/18 or better at final visit. Sixty-three percent of eyes which had injuries involving all 3 zones resulted in phthisis bulbi, enucleation or evisceration., Conclusion: Work-related open globe injuries may have severe consequences such as visual impairment and blindness among the young male working population in industrialized areas. Study Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the single most important preventable medical cause of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and driving accidents. OSA may also adversely affect work performance through a decrease in productivity, and an increase in the injury rate. Nevertheless, no systematic review and meta-analysis of the relationship between OSA and work accidents has been performed thus far., Methods: PubMed, PsycInfo, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched. Out of an initial list of 1,099 papers, 10 studies (12,553 participants) were eligible for our review, and 7 of them were included in the meta-analysis. The overall effects were measured by odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). An assessment was made of the methodological quality of the studies. Moderator analysis and funnel plot analysis were used to explore the sources of between-study heterogeneity., Results: Compared to controls, the odds of work accident was found to be nearly double in workers with OSA (OR = 2.18; 95% CI = 1.53-3.10). Occupational driving was associated with a higher effect size., Conclusions: OSA is an underdiagnosed nonoccupational disease that has a strong adverse effect on work accidents. Background: The fast growth of non-standard employment in developed countries highlights the importance of studying the influence of contract type on worker's safety and health., Objective: The main purpose of our study is to investigate whether non-standard workers are more injured than standard workers or not. Additionally, other risk factors for occupational accidents are investigated., Methods: Data from the Belgian surveys on work ability in 2009 and 2011 are used. During their annual occupational health examination, workers were asked to fill in a self-administered questionnaire. In total, 1886 complete responses are collected and analyzed using logistic regression., Results: Temporary workers did not have higher injury rates than permanent workers [OR 0.5, 95% confidence interval 0.2-1.2]. Low-educated, less-experienced workers and those exposed to dangerous conditions are more frequent victims of occupational accidents., Conclusion: The present data do not support the hypothesis that non-standard workers have more injuries than standard workers. Our results about occupational accidents derived from a non-representative sample of the Belgian workforce and cannot be generalized due to the heterogeneity in job organization and labor regulations between countries. Further research is needed to extend our findings and to seek other factors that may be associated with work accidents.
