The development of novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as efficient photocatalysts for hydrogen peroxide production from water and oxygen is particularly interesting, yet remains a challenge. Herein, we have prepared four cyclic trinuclear units (CTUs) based MOFs, exhibiting good light absorption ability and suitable band gaps for photosynthesis of H 2 O 2 . However, Cu-CTU-based MOFs are not able to photocatalyzed the formation of H 2 O 2 , while the alteration of metal nodes from Cu-CTU to Ag-CTU dramatically enhances the photocatalytic performance for H 2 O 2 production and the production rates can reach as high as 17476 μmol g -1  h -1 with an apparent quantum yield of 4.72 %, at 420 nm, which is much higher than most reported MOFs. The photocatalytic mechanism is comprehensively studied by combining the isotope labeling experiments and DFT calculation. Here we described an 18-year-old woman who were initially misdiagnosed as psychiatric disorders in a psychiatric institution. She was transferred to our neurological ward because of impaired consciousness. Neuronal antibody testing confirmed the diagnosis of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis. Cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a concomitant disorder named reversible splenial lesion syndrome (RESLES). After administration of combined immunotherapy, the patient recovered completely 3 months after discharge. To our knowledge, co-occurrence of RESLES and anti-NMDAR encephalitis was only described in two patients with teratoma and we provide another case without teratoma. We highlight that anti-NMDAR antibodies can be added to the multiple causes of RESLES. Here, we propose a piperidine-based ionic liquid additive. The electrostatic shielding effect of the piperidine cation (PP13 + ) effectively inhibits the growth of lithium dendrites. Simultaneously, the redox activity of the bromine anion synergistically reduces the overpotential. This approach significantly improves the cycling performance of lithium-oxygen batteries.

Background: Overexpression of receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 1 (ROR1) contributes to cancer cell proliferation, survival and migration, playing crucial roles in tumor development. ROR1 has been proposed as a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment. This study aimed to develop novel humanized ROR1 monoclonal antibodies and investigate their anti-tumor effects., Methods: ROR1 expression in tumor tissues and cell lines was analyzed by immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. Antibodies from mouse hybridomas were humanized by the complementarity-determining region (CDR) grafting technique. Surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, ELISA assay and flow cytometry were employed to characterize humanized antibodies. In vitro cellular assay and in vivo mouse experiment were conducted to comprehensively evaluate anti-tumor activity of these antibodies., Results: ROR1 exhibited dramatically higher expression in lung adenocarcinoma, liver cancer and breast cancer, and targeting ROR1 by short-hairpin RNAs significantly inhibited proliferation and migration of cancer cells. Two humanized ROR1 monoclonal antibodies were successfully developed, named h1B8 and h6D4, with high specificity and affinity to ROR1 protein. Moreover, these two antibodies effectively suppressed tumor growth in the lung cancer xenograft mouse model, c-Myc/Alb-cre liver cancer transgenic mouse model and MMTV-PyMT breast cancer mouse model., Conclusions: Two humanized monoclonal antibodies targeting ROR1, h1B8 and h6D4, were successfully developed and exhibited remarkable anti-tumor activity in vivo., (© 2024. Objective. Accurate neuron identification is fundamental to the analysis of neuronal population dynamics and signal extraction in fluorescence videos. However, several factors such as severe imaging noise, out-of-focus neuropil contamination, and adjacent neuron overlap would impair the performance of neuron identification algorithms and lead to errors in neuron shape and calcium activity extraction, or ultimately compromise the reliability of analysis conclusions. Approach. To address these challenges, we developed a novel cascade framework named SomaSeg. This framework integrates Duffing denoising and neuropil contamination defogging for video enhancement, and an overlapping instance segmentation network for stacked neurons differentiating. Main results. Compared with the state-of-the-art neuron identification methods, both simulation and actual experimental results demonstrate that SomaSeg framework is robust to noise, insensitive to out-of-focus contamination and effective in dealing with overlapping neurons in actual complex imaging scenarios. The development of metal complexes for photosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) from pure water and oxygen using solar energy, especially in the absence of any additives ( e.g. , acid, co-catalysts, and sacrificial agents), is a worthwhile pursuit, yet still remains highly challenging. More importantly, the O 2 evolution from the water oxidation reaction has been impeded by the classic bottleneck, the photon-flux-density problem of sunlight that could be attributed to rarefied solar radiation for a long time. Herein, we reported synthesis of boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY)-based cyclic trinuclear silver complexes (Ag-CTC), and they exhibited strong visible-light absorption ability, a suitable energy bandgap, excellent photochemical properties and efficient charge separation ability. The integration of BODIPY motifs as oxygen reduction reaction sites and silver ions as water oxidation reaction sites allows Ag-CTC to photosynthesize H 2 O 2 either from pure water or from sea water in the absence of any additives with a high H 2 O 2 production rate of 183.7 and 192.3 μM h -1 , which is higher than that of other reported metal-based photocatalysts. The photocatalytic mechanism was systematically and ambiguously investigated by various experimental analyses and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Flavonoids play an important role in forming wine grapes and wine quality characteristics. The flavonoids of three winter red wine grapes, Yeniang No. 2 (YN2), Marselan (Mar), and Guipu No. 6 (GP6), were analyzed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-QQQ-MS). Furthermore, the flavonoids in GP6 grapevines using two types of training systems, namely, trellis (T) and espaliers (E), were also compared in this study. Overall, 196 flavonoid metabolites, including 96 flavones, 38 flavonols, 19 flavanones, 18 polyphenols, 15 anthocyanins, 7 isoflavones, and 3 proanthocyanidins, were identified. The flavonoid profiles were remarkably different among these three grape varieties, while they did not change much in the GP6 managed on trellis and espaliers. Grape varieties with different genetic backgrounds have their own unique flavonoid profiles. Compared with Mar-T, isoflavones and flavonols presented higher contents in GP6-T and YN2-T, which mainly contain glycitein, genistin, calycosin, kaempferide, isotrifoliin, and ayanin. The anthocyanin content was significantly higher in YN2-T than in the other two varieties. YN2 and GP6-T present a more stable color, with significantly more acetylated diglucosides and methylated anthocyanins in YN2-T and GP6-T than in Mar-T. Notably, GP6 had more varied flavonoids and the better characteristics to its flavonoid profile out of these three varieties, due to it containing a higher number of anthocyanins, flavone, and flavonols and the greatest number of different flavonoid metabolites (DFMs), with higher contents than YN2 and Mar. Compared with the trellis training system, the espaliers training system increased the content of flavonoids detected in GP6 grape berries; however, the composition of flavonoids strictly depends on the grape variety.

Liriomyza trifolii, an invasive pest, poses a substantial threat to horticultural and vegetable plants. It spreads rapidly, especially in hot weather, leading to large-scale outbreaks with strong thermotolerance and insecticide resistance. In this study, mortality and LtCYP4g1 expression in L. trifolii were evaluated after thermal and insecticides exposure. Furthermore, functional verification of LtCYP4g1 was conducted through RNA interference and bacterial survival assays in Escherichia coli containing recombinant LtCYP4g1 protein. Results indicated that a short time exposure to high temperature incresed insecticide tolerance of L. trifolii, attributed to decreased mortality and induced LtCYP4g1 expression; LtCYP4g1 was involved in stimulating synthesis of cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) and elevating epicuticle lipid content and thickness, and E. coli cells overexpressing LtCYP4g1 exhibited significant tolerance to thermal and insecticide stress. In general, P450-mediated tolerance of L. trifolii was enhanced by high temperature, with LtCYP4g1 playing a role in promoting biosynthesis of CHCs for thickening epidermal lipid barrier and reducing cuticular penetration. Phyllanthus emblica Linn is not only an edible fruit with high nutritional value, but also a medicinal plant with multiple bioactivities. It is widely used in clinical practice with functions of clearing heat, cooling blood, digesting food, strengthening stomach, promoting fluid production, and relieving cough. This review summarized a wide variety of phytonutrients, including nutritional components (mineral elements, amino acids, vitamins, polysaccharides, unsaturated free fatty acids) and functional components (phenolic acids (1-34), tannins (35-98), flavonoids (99-141), sterols (142-159), triterpenoids (160-175), lignans (176-183), alkaloids (184-197), alkanes (198-212), aromatic micromolecules (213-222), other compounds (223-239)). The isolated compounds and the various extracts of P. emblica Linn presented a diverse spectrum of biological activities such as anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, anti-atherosclerosis, neuroprotective, enhancing immunity, anti-fatigue, anti-myocardial fibrosis. The quality markers of P. emblica Linn were predicted and analyzed based on traditional medicinal properties, traditional efficacy, plant genealogy and chemical component characteristics, biogenic pathway of chemical components, measurability of chemical components, transformation characteristics of polyphenolic components, homologous characteristics of medicine and food, compound compatibility environment, and clinical applications. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a risk factor for patients with impaired renal function. The onset of T2DM-induced diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is frequently sub-clinical, potentially culminating in end-stage renal disease. In the current study the factors influencing DKD in elderly patients diagnosed with T2DM were determined. A retrospective cohort study was conducted involving patients ≥60 years of age with T2DM from June 2019 to December 2022. The Cockcroft-Gault formula was used to estimate the glomerular filtration rate. The clinical information and biochemical indicators of patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 90 mL/min/1.73m2 were collected. Patients were grouped based on a 3-year eGFR decline < 15% and ≥ 15%. The differences between the two groups were compared and the factors influencing the 3-year eGFR decline ≥ 15% were analyzed. A total of 242 patients were included, including 154 in the group with a 3-year eGFR decline < 15% and 88 in the group with a three-year eGFR decline ≥ 15%. Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that smoking cigarettes, and triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein levels were related to a 3-year eGFR decline ≥ 15% (P = .039, P < .001, and P = .011, respectively). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the TG level was independently related to a 3-year eGFR decline ≥ 15% (P = .004; OR = 2.316). There was a significant linear relationship between the eGFR decline and TG level (P = .002). Patients with a TG concentration > 1.7 mmol/L had a more apparent decrease in the eGFR (P < .05). Introduction: Bronchial blocker balloons inflated with small volumes of air increase balloon pressure, involving a risk of airway injury especially in young children. However, there are no established guidelines regarding the appropriate volumes of air required to provide safe bronchial occlusion., Methods: This study aimed to introduce a novel method for calculating the amount of air required for safe bronchial blocker balloon occlusion for one lung anesthesia in young children. We included 79 pediatric patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery at our hospital. Preoperatively, the balloon pressure and corresponding diameter of 5F bronchial blockers inflated with different volumes of air were measured. Intraoperatively, bronchial diameters measured by computerized tomographic scans were matched to the ex vivo measured balloon diameters. The quality of lung isolation, incidence of balloon repositioning, and airway injury were documented. Postoperatively, airway injury was evaluated through fiberoptic bronchoscopy., Results: Balloon pressure and balloon diameter showed linear and nonlinear correlations with volume, respectively. The median lengths of the right and left mainstem bronchi were median (interquartile range) range: 5.3 mm (4.5-6.3) 2.7-8.15 and 21.8 (19.6-23.4) 14-29, respectively. Occluding the left mainstem bronchus required <1 mL of air, with a balloon pressure of 27 cm H 2 O. The isolation quality was high with no case of mucosal injury or displacement. Occluding the right mainstem bronchus required a median air volume of 1.3 mL, with a median balloon pressure of 44 cm H 2 O. One patient had poor lung isolation due to a tracheal bronchus and another developed mild and transient airway injury., Conclusion: The bronchial blocker cuff should be regarded as a high-pressure balloon. An electron donor-acceptor complex was utilized to generate alkoxy radicals from alcohols under mild conditions using visible light. This approach was combined with a hydroxybromination process to achieve the deconstructive functionalization of alkenes, leading to the production of geminal dibromides. Mechanistic investigations indicated the intermediacy of hypervalent iodine (III) compounds.

Objectives: To clarify if the mechanism of Sanliangsan in improving Sjogren's syndrome complicated with interstitial lung disease (SS-ILD) involves MUC1 suppression, which is involved in SS-ILD pathogenesis., Methods: Fifty-six patients were randomly divided into two groups receiving Sanliangsan prescription (SP) therapy and conventional therapy (western medicine). In-depth transcriptome profiles from a large database of SS-ILD patients were collected and analyzed to identify candidate genes involved in SS pathogenesis. Clinical symptom scores, metabolic compositions, lung HRCT (high-resolution computed tomography) scores, and serum MUC1 levels were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Network pharmacology, molecular docking, and ITC assays were performed to identify bioactive compounds of SP in improving SS. Metabolome analyzed the metabolic composition of serum associated with SS-ILD before and after SP treatment., Results: Transcriptome results identified the involvement of abnormal expression of genes relevant to the immune system, inflammatory responses, and signaling pathways. Numerous genes, including CD58 , CD86 , CTLA4 , CXCL8 , STAT1 , and especially MUC1 , were involved in SS pathogenesis and could be used to diagnose SS-ILD early. Both treatments improved the lung HRCT scores and clinical symptoms of SS-ILD. The SP therapy improved SS-ILD more effectively than conventional therapy. Moreover, Sanliangsan prescription therapy reduced serum MUC1 levels and restored the abnormal metabolisms, improving the abnormal inflammatory and immune responses of patients. Eugenol directly interacted with MUC1, suppressed related genes, and was the bioactive compound of SP. SP could partially restore the abnormal metabolisms associated with SS-ILD pathogenesis., Conclusion: Based on conventional Western medicine treatment, modified Sanliangsan can significantly improve the clinical symptoms, signs, and lung function of patients; the mechanism may be due to eugenol and related to MUC1 regulation., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing financial interest., (© 2024 The Authors. Ultrasound imaging of the tongue is biased by the probe movements relative to the speaker's head. Two common remedies are restricting or algorithmically compensating for such movements, each with its own challenges. We describe these challenges in details and evaluate an open-source, adjustable probe stabilizer for ultrasound (ALPHUS), specifically designed to address these challenges by restricting uncorrectable probe movements while allowing for correctable ones (e.g., jaw opening) to facilitate naturalness. The stabilizer is highly modular and adaptable to different users (e.g., adults and children) and different research/clinical needs (e.g., imaging in both midsagittal and coronal orientations). The results of three experiments show that probe movement over uncorrectable degrees of freedom was negligible, while movement over correctable degrees of freedom that could be compensated through post-processing alignment was relatively large, indicating unconstrained articulation over parameters relevant for natural speech. Results also showed that probe movements as small as 5 mm or 2 degrees can neutralize phonemic contrasts in ultrasound tongue positions. Senecaviurs A (SVA) infection, an emerging infectious disease in pig populations, is characterized by vesicular lesions predominantly affecting the mouth, snout, and hooves of infected pigs, similar to the symptoms of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV). This disease first spread into China in 2015, causing great panic in the pig breeding industry. To determine the prevalence of SVA in pig herds in China from 2018 to 2021, a total of 4,901 pig tissue samples were collected from 18 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities (P.A.M.s) for epidemiological investigation, virus isolation and genetic analysis. In 2021, the individual positive rates (IPRs) from the perspective of spatial distribution in East China, South China, Central China, North China, Southwest China, Northwest China, and Northeast China were 0, 0, 1.69, 0.94, 11.70, 3.31 and 2.21%, respectively. The herd positive rates (HPRs) were 0, 0, 9.52, 9.09, 50.00, 7.69 and 23.08%. From the perspective of temporal distribution, the IPR showed an overall downwards trend from 2018 to 2021, with only a slight increase in 2020. Moreover, the HPR decreased from 36.63 to 10.07%. From the perspective of population distribution in 2021, the IPR (2.62%) and HPR (12.00%) in apparently healthy pig herds (slaughterhouses) were greater than those in non-healthy pig herds (2.10 and 5.13%, respectively), consistent with the results in 2019. To characterize the prevalent strains, 10 SVA strains isolated from positive samples in 2019 were clustered in Clades I and VII; SVA-FJ039-2019, SVA-HuN032-2019, SVA-GX011-2019, SVA-FJ036-2019, SVA-GXF011-2019 and SVA-GXF053-2019 were clustered in Clade I; and SVA-FJ018-2019, SVA-SD069-2019, SVA-SD072-2019, and SVA-SD074-2019 were clustered in Clade VII. In conclusion, until 2021, the prevalence of SVA in pig herds in China was still relatively high, the contaminated area was still large, and there were a number of hidden infections. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) that exhibit dynamic phase-transition behavior under external stimuli could have great potential in adsorptive separations. Here we report on a zinc-based microporous MOF (JNU-80) and its reversible transformation between two crystalline phases: large pore (JNU-80-LP) and narrow pore (JNU-80-NP). Specifically, JNU-80-LP can undergo a dehydration-induced cluster consolidation under heat treatment, resulting in JNU-80-NP with a reduced channel that allows exclusion of di-branched hexane isomers while high adsorption of linear and mono-branched hexane isomers. We further demonstrate the fabrication of MOF-polymer composite (JNU-80-NP-block) and its application in the purification of di-branched isomers from liquid-phase hexane mixtures (98 % di-branched) at room temperature, affording the di-branched hexane isomers with 99.5 % purity and close to 90 % recovery rate over ten cycles. This work illustrates an interesting dehydration-induced cluster consolidation in MOF structure and the ensuing channel shrinkage for sieving di-branched hexane isomers, which may have important implications for the development of MOFs with dynamic behavior and their potential applications in non-thermal driven separation technologies., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Context: Coix [ Coix lacryma-jobi L. var. mayuen (Roman.) Stapf (Poaceae)], a crop of medicinal and edible significance, contains coixol, which has demonstrated anticancer properties. However, the limited solubility of coixol restricts its potential therapeutic applications., Objective: This study prepared a water-soluble coixol-β-cyclodextrin polymer (CDP) inclusion compound and evaluated its anticancer effect., Materials and Methods: The coixol-CDP compound was synthesized through a solvent-stirring and freeze-drying technique. Its coixol content was quantified using HPLC, and its stability was tested under various conditions. The anticancer effects of the coixol-CDP compound (4.129, 8.259, 16.518, and 33.035 mg/L for 24, 48, and 72 h) on the proliferation of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) A549 cells were evaluated using an MTT assay; cell morphology was examined by Hoechst nuclear staining; apoptosis and cell cycle was detected by flow cytometry; and the expression of apoptosis-related proteins was assessed by Western blots., Results: The water-soluble coixol-CDP inclusion compound was successfully prepared with an inclusion ratio of 86.6% and an inclusion yield rate of 84.1%. The coixol content of the compound was 5.63% and the compound remained stable under various conditions. Compared to coixol alone, all 24, 48, and 72 h administrations with the coixol-CDP compound exhibited lower IC 50 values (33.93 ± 2.28, 16.80 ± 1.46, and 6.93 ± 0.83 mg/L) in A549 cells; the compound also showed stronger regulatory effects on apoptosis-related proteins., Discussion and Conclusions: These findings offer a new perspective for the potential clinical application of Coix in NSCLC therapy and its future research.

Introduction: Global warming appears to initiate and aggravate allergic respiratory conditions via interaction with numerous environmental factors. Temperature, commonly identified as a factor in climate change, is important in this process. Allergic rhinitis, a common respiratory allergy, is on the rise and affects approximately 500 million individuals worldwide. The increasing ambient temperature requires evaluation regarding its influence on allergic rhinitis, taking into account regional climate zones., Methods: A detailed search of PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and CINAHL Plus databases, was conducted, encompassing observational studies published from 1991 to 2023. Original studies examining the relationship between increasing temperature and allergic rhinitis were assessed for eligibility followed by a risk of bias assessment. Random effects meta-analysis was utilized to measure the association between a 1 °C increase in temperature and allergic rhinitis-related outcomes., Results: 20 studies were included in the qualitative synthesis, with nine of them subsequently selected for the quantitative synthesis. 20 included studies were rated as Level 4 evidence according to the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, and the majority of these reported good-quality evidence based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Rating Scale. Using the Risk of Bias In Non-Randomized Studies of Exposure tool, the majority of studies exhibit a high risk of bias. Every 1 °C increase in temperature significantly raised the risk of allergic rhinitis-related outcomes by 29 % (RR = 1.26, 95 % CI: 1.11 to 1.50). Conversely, every 1 °C rise in temperature showed no significant increase in the odds of allergic rhinitis-related outcomes by 7 % (OR = 1.07, 95 % CI: 0.95 to 1.21). Subsequent subgroup analysis identified climate zone as an influential factor influencing this association., Conclusion: It is inconclusive to definitively suggest a harmful effect of increasing temperature exposure on allergic rhinitis, due overall very low certainty of evidence. Juglans sigillata Dode is one of the important tree species in southwest China, and it has significant economic and ecological value. However, there is still a lack of effective methods to identify the functional genes of J. sigillata. By verifying the model plant tobacco, the pTRV2::JsPDS vector was able to cause photobleaching. This study showed that photobleaching occurred 24 and 30 d after the silencing vector was infected with aseptic seedlings and fruits of J. sigillata, respectively. When the OD 600 was 0.6, and the injection dose was 500 μL, the gene silencing efficiency of aseptic seedlings was the highest at 16.7 %, significantly better than other treatments. Moreover, when the OD 600 was 0.8, and the injection dose was 500 μL, the gene silencing efficiency in the walnut fruit was the highest (20 %). In addition, the VIGS system was successfully used to silence JsFLS2 and JsFLS4 genes in J. sigillata. This study also showed that the flavonol content and gene expression in the treatment group were decreased compared to the control group. In addition, the proteins transcribed and translated from the JsFLS4 gene may have higher catalytic activity for dihydroquercetin. This article primarily introduces a new treatment for liver fibrosis/cirrhosis. We developed a hepatic patch by combining decellularized liver matrix (DLM) with the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/heparin-complex and evaluated its restorative efficacy. In vitro prophylactic results, the HGF/heparin-DLM patches effectively mitigated CCl 4 -induced hepatocyte toxicity and restored the cytotoxicity levels to the baseline levels by day 5. Furthermore, these patches restored albumin synthesis of injured hepatocytes to more than 70% of the normal levels within 5 days. In vitro therapeutic results, the urea synthesis of the injured hepatocytes reached 91% of the normal levels after 10 days of culture, indicating successful restoration of hepatic function by the HGF/heparin-DLM patches in both prophylactic and therapeutic models. In vivo results, HGF/heparin-DLM patches attached to the liver and gut exhibited a significant decrease in collagen content (4.44 times and 2.77 times, respectively) and an increase in glycogen content (1.19 times and 1.12 times, respectively) compared to the fibrosis group after 1 week, separately. In summary, liver function was restored and inflammation was inhibited through the combined effects of DLM and the HGF/heparin-complex in fibrotic liver. Comprehending the phylogeography of invasive organisms enhances our insight into their distribution dynamics, which is instrumental for the development of effective prevention and management strategies. In China, Pomacea canaliculata and Pomacea maculata are the two most widespread and damaging species of the non-native Pomacea spp.. Given this species' rapid spread throughout country, it is urgent to investigate the genetic diversity and structure of its different geographic populations, a task undertaken in the current study using the COI and ITS1 mitochondrial and ribosomal DNA genes, respectively. The result of this study, based on a nationwide systematic survey, a collection of Pomacea spp., and the identification of cryptic species, showed that there is a degree of genetic diversity and differentiation in P. canaliculata, and that all of its variations are mainly due to differences between individuals within different geographical populations. Indeed, this species contains multiple haplotypes, but none of them form a systematic geographical population structure. Furthermore, the COI gene exhibits higher genetic diversity than the ITS1 gene. Background: Impact of B-cell depletion following treatment with Bruton tyrosine kinase-inhibitors (BTKi) on the outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients remain controversial. We investigated the impact of BTKi on susceptibility and the severity of COVID-19 in Chinese patients with CLL during the first wave of COVID-19 (Omicron variant)., Methods: CLL patients (n=171) visiting the Institute of Hematology, Peoples' Hospital, China (November 15, 2022- January 20, 2023) were included in the study. Seventeen patients receiving BTKi and venetoclax with or without obinutuzumab were excluded. Data from 117 patients receiving treatment with BTKi were collected using a standardized questionnaire through telephone interviews. Thirty-four patients without CLL-specific treatment served as controls. The data was analysed using IBM SPSS Software version 21 and a P value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: The median age of patients was 67 years and majority were males (n=100). Treatment with BTKi was not associated with higher incidence of COVID-19 (74% [95% Confidence Interval (CI) 60%, 92%]) versus 74% (CI 48%, 100%) without any treatment ( P =0.92). Hypoxemia was reported by 45% (32%, 61%) and 16% (4%, 41%) ( P =0.01). BTKi was the only independent risk factor of hypoxemia (Hazard Ratio [HR], 4.22 [1.32, 13.50]; P = 0.02). Five (5.7%) patients with COVID-19 under BTKi required ICU admission; 4 of them died. No ICU admissions/deaths were observed in the control group., Conclusion: In Chinese patients with CLL and treated with BTKi experienced more severe lung disease and ICU admissions due to COVID-19 than patients without CLL therapy. Pulmonary fibrosis represents the final alteration seen in a wide variety of lung disorders characterized by increased fibroblast activity and the accumulation of substantial amounts of extracellular matrix, along with inflammatory damage and the breakdown of tissue architecture. This condition is marked by a significant mortality rate and a lack of effective treatments. The depositing of an excessive quantity of extracellular matrix protein follows the damage to lung capillaries and alveolar epithelial cells, leading to pulmonary fibrosis and irreversible damage to lung function. It has been proposed that the connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) plays a critical role in the advancement of pulmonary fibrosis by enhancing the accumulation of the extracellular matrix and exacerbating fibrosis. Liver fibrosis occurs in many chronic liver diseases, while severe fibrosis can lead to liver failure. A chitosan-phenol based self-healing hydrogel (CP) integrated with decellularized liver matrix (DLM) is proposed in this study as a 3D gel matrix to carry hepatocytes for possible therapy of liver fibrosis. To mimic the physiological liver microenvironment, DLM is extracted from pigs and mixed with CP hydrogel to generate DLM-CP self-healing hydrogel. Hepatocyte spheroids coated with endothelial cells (ECs) are fabricated using a customized method and embedded in the hydrogel. Hepatocytes injured by exposure to CCl 4 -containing medium are used as the in vitro toxin-mediated liver fibrosis model, where the EC-covered hepatocyte spheroids embedded in the hydrogel are co-cultured with the injured hepatocytes. The urea synthesis of the injured hepatocytes reaches 91% of the normal level after 7 days of co-culture, indicating that the hepatic function of injured hepatocytes is rescued by the hybrid spheroid-laden DLM-CP hydrogel. Moreover, the relative lactate dehydrogenase activity of the injured hepatocytes is decreased 49% by the hybrid spheroid-laden DLM-CP hydrogel after 7 days of co-culture, suggesting reduced damage in the injured hepatocytes. Background: Blood pressure (BP) trajectories from young adulthood through middle age are associated with cardiovascular risk. We examined the associations of hypertension risk factors with BP trajectories among a large diverse sample., Methods and Results: We analyzed data from young adults, aged 18 to 39 years, with untreated BP <140/90 mm Hg at baseline from Kaiser Permanente Southern California (N=355 324). We used latent growth curve models to identify 10-year BP trajectories and to assess the associations between characteristics in young adulthood and BP trajectories. We identified the following 5 distinct systolic BP trajectories, which appeared to be determined mainly by the baseline BP with progressively higher BP at each year: group 1 (lowest BP trajectory, 7.9%), group 2 (26.5%), group 3 (33.0%), group 4 (25.4%), and group 5 (highest BP trajectory, 7.3%). Older age (adjusted odds ratio for 30-39 versus 18-29 years, 1.23 [95% CI, 1.18-1.28]), male sex (13.38 [95% CI, 12.80-13.99]), obesity (body mass index ≥30 versus 18.5-24.9 kg/m 2 , 14.81 [95% CI, 14.03-15.64]), overweight (body mass index 25-29.9 versus 18.5-24.9 kg/m 2 , 3.16 [95% CI, 3.00-3.33]), current smoking (1.58 [95% CI, 1.48-1.67]), prediabetes (1.21 [95% CI, 1.13-1.29]), diabetes (1.60 [95% CI, 1.41-1.81]) and high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (≥160 versus <100 mg/dL, 1.52 [95% CI, 1.37-1.68]) were associated with the highest BP trajectory (group 5) compared with the reference group (group 2)., Conclusions: Traditional hypertension risk factors including smoking, diabetes, and elevated lipids were associated with BP trajectories in young adults, with obesity having the strongest association with the highest BP trajectory group.

Background: Elsholtzia belongs to the Labiatae family, which consists of herbaceous subshrubs and shrubs. Among them, volatile oils are an important chemical component in Elsholtzia, which have various bioactive medicinal and developmental values., Methods: The references about volatile oils of Elsholtzia in this review were obtained from Web of Science, SciFinder, PubMed, Willy, Elsevier, SpringLink, ACS publications, Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar, Scopus, and CNKI. The other information about Elsholtzia was obtained from classical works or ancient books., Results: Traditionally, the volatile oils from Elsholtzia were used in Chinese medicine to treat cholera, abdominal pain, vomiting, and scattered edema. Relevant research revealed that Elsholtzia contains many different types of volatile oils, and most of them display bioactivities, including anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, hypolipidemic, insecticidal, and antiinflammatory activities, treating spleen and stomach. Furthermore, the applications of volatile oils were summarized and analyzed in this paper., Conclusion: The contents of traditional use, constituent analysis, bioactivity, and application of volatile oils from Elsholtzia were reviewed in this paper. Translation elongation is a well-coordinated and multifactorial step in translation that ensures the accurate and efficient addition of amino acids to a growing nascent-peptide chain encoded in the sequence of messenger RNA (mRNA). Background: Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are clonal hematopoietic disorders characterized by morphological abnormalities and peripheral blood cytopenias, carrying a risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia. Although ferroptosis is a promising target for MDS treatment, the specific roles of ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) in MDS diagnosis have not been elucidated., Methods: MDS-related microarray data were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. A comprehensive analysis of FRG expression levels in patients with MDS and controls was conducted, followed by the use of multiple machine learning methods to establish prediction models. The predictive ability of the optimal model was evaluated using nomogram analysis and an external data set. Functional analysis was applied to explore the underlying mechanisms. The mRNA levels of the model genes were verified in MDS clinical samples by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR)., Results: The extreme gradient boosting model demonstrated the best performance, leading to the identification of a panel of six signature genes: SREBF1, PTPN6, PARP9, MAP3K11, MDM4, and EZH2. Receiver operating characteristic curves indicated that the model exhibited high accuracy in predicting MDS diagnosis, with area under the curve values of 0.989 and 0.962 for the training and validation cohorts, respectively. Functional analysis revealed significant associations between these genes and the infiltrating immune cells. The expression levels of these genes were successfully verified in MDS clinical samples., Conclusion: Our study is the first to identify a novel model using FRGs to predict the risk of developing MDS. FRGs may be implicated in MDS pathogenesis through immune-related pathways. Background: Liriomyza trifolii is an economically significant, invasive pest of horticultural and vegetable crops. The larvae form tunnels in foliage and hasten senescence and death. Outbreaks of L. trifolii often erupt in hot weather and are driven by thermotolerance; furthermore, the poor effectiveness of pesticides has made outbreaks more severe. But it is still unclear whether the development of insecticide tolerance will contribute to thermotolerance in L. trifolii., Results: To explore potential synergistic relationships between insecticide exposure and thermotolerance in L. trifolii, we first generated an abamectin-resistant (AB-R) strain. Knockdown behavior, eclosion and survival rates, and expression levels of genes encoding heat shock proteins (Hsps) in L. trifolii were then examined in AB-R and abamectin-susceptible (AB-S) strains. Our results demonstrated that long-term selection pressure for abamectin resistance made L. trifolii more prone to develop cross-resistance to other insecticides containing similar ingredients. Furthermore, the AB-R strain exhibited enhanced thermotolerance and possessed an elevated critical thermal maximum temperature, and upregulated expression levels of Hsps during heat stress., Conclusion: Collectively, our results indicate that thermal adaptation in L. trifolii was accompanied by emerging abamectin resistance. Integrating CYP2D6 genotyping and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is crucial for guiding individualized atomoxetine therapy in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The aim of this retrospective study was (1) to investigate the link between the efficacy and tolerability of atomoxetine in children with ADHD and plasma atomoxetine concentrations based on their CYP2D6 genotypes; (2) to offer TDM reference range recommendations for atomoxetine based on the CYP2D6 genotypes of children receiving different dosage regimens. This retrospective study covered children and adolescents with ADHD between the ages of 6 and <18, who visited the psychological and behavioral clinic of Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from June 1, 2021, to January 31, 2023. The demographic information and laboratory examination data, including CYP2D6 genotype tests and routine TDM of atomoxetine were obtained from the hospital information system. We used univariate analysis, Mann-Whitney U nonparametric test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve to investigate outcomes of interest. 515 plasma atomoxetine concentrations of 385 children (325 boys and 60 girls) with ADHD between 6 and 16 years of age were included for statistical analysis in this study. Based on genotyping results, >60% of enrolled children belonged to the CYP2D6 extensive metabolizer (EM), while <40% fell into the intermediate metabolizer (IM). CYP2D6 IMs exhibited higher dose-corrected plasma atomoxetine concentrations by 1.4-2.2 folds than those CYP2D6 EMs. Moreover, CYP2D6 IMs exhibited a higher response rate compare to EMs (93.55% vs 85.71%, P = 0.0132), with higher peak plasma atomoxetine concentrations by 1.67 times than those of EMs. Further ROC analysis revealed that individuals under once daily in the morning (q.m.) dosing regimen exhibited a more effective response to atomoxetine when their levels were ≥ 268 ng/mL (AUC = 0.710, P < 0.001). In addition, CYP2D6 IMs receiving q.m. dosing of atomoxetine were more likely to experience adverse reactions in the central nervous system and gastrointestinal system when plasma atomoxetine concentrations reach 465 and 509 ng/mL, respectively. The findings in this study provided promising treatment strategy for Chinese children with ADHD based on their CYP2D6 genotypes and plasma atomoxetine concentration monitoring. A peak plasma atomoxetine concentration higher than 268 ng/mL might be requisite for q.m. dosing. As an important component of highly heterogeneous exosomes, exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) have great potential as noninvasive biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. Therefore, a sensitive and simple sensor is the key for its clinical application. Herein, we designed an exponential amplification reaction (EXPAR) to induce the reactivation of the CRISPR-associated protein 9/small guide RNA (Cas9/sgRNA) complex, thus achieving sensitive and visual exosomal miRNAs-21 (miR-21) fluorescence sensing. In this design, we inactivated the sgRNA by hybridizing sgRNA and blocker DNA. Then, we used a trigger DNA to hybridize with miR-21 and produced a lot of activated DNA by EXPAR. Those activated DNA further hybridized with blocker DNA and released the free sgRNA to form the activated Cas9/sgRNA complex. Based on the quick cleavage of activated Cas9/sgRNA complex, the reporter DNA labeled by SYBR Green I was released from the surface of the magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) into the supernatant, and thus was used to sensitively quantify the miRNAs concentration with a limit of detection of 3 × 10 3 particles/mL. In addition, this fluorescence sensor has also been successfully employed to distinguish healthy people and cancer patients by naked-eye observation of the fluorescence, thus demonstrating its great potential for accurate and point-of-care cancer diagnosis.

Dental resin composites (DRCs) are commonly used to restore teeth affected by dental caries or defects. These materials must possess excellent properties to withstand the complex oral environment. The objective of this study was to prepare and characterize Boron nitride nanosheets (BNN)/ dimethyl amino hexadecyl methacrylate (DMAHDM) composites (BNN/DMA), and to evaluate them as functional fillers to enhance the mechanical and antimicrobial properties of dental resins. The BNN/DMA composites were successfully prepared under the theoretical guidance of molecular dynamics (MD), and then the physicochemical and morphological characterization of the BNN/DMA composites were carried out by using various test methods, such as FT-IR, XRD, UV-vis spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, and AFM. It was doped into the dental flowable resin in a certain proportion, and the results showed that the flexural strength (FS), elastic modulus (EM), compressive strength (CS), and microhardness (MH) of the modified resin composites were increased by 53.29, 47.8, 97.59, and 37.1%, respectively, with the addition of 0.8 wt % of BNN/DMA composite fillers. It has a good inhibition effect on Streptococcus mutans , with an inhibition rate as high as 90.43%. Furthermore, this effect persists even after one month of aging. In conclusion, the modification of flowable resins with low-concentration BNN/DMA composites favorably integrates the mechanical properties and long-term antimicrobial activity of dental resins. At the same time, they have good biocompatibility and do not affect the aesthetics. The BNN/DMA composite modified flowable resin has the potential to become a new type of antimicrobial dental restorative material.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a highly aggressive and lethal malignant bone tumor that primarily afflicts children, adolescents, and young adults. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying OS pathogenesis remain obscure. Mounting evidence implicates dysregulated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in tumorigenesis and progression. These lncRNAs play a pivotal role in modulating gene expression at diverse epigenetic, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional levels. Uncovering the roles of aberrant lncRNAs would provide new insights into OS pathogenesis and novel tools for its early diagnosis and treatment. In this review, we summarize the significance of lncRNAs in controlling signaling pathways implicated in OS development, including the Wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, NF-κB, Notch, Hippo, and HIF-1α. Moreover, we discuss the multifaceted contributions of lncRNAs to drug resistance in OS, as well as their potential to serve as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Background: Mechanisms of synaptic plasticity in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) are complex and the current knowledge cannot explain. Growth and regeneration of dendrites together with synaptic formation are the most important parameters for evaluating the cellular protective effects of various molecules. The effect of ginsenoside Rg1 (Rg1) on the growth of retinal ganglion cell processes has been poorly understood. Therefore, we investigated the effect of ginsenoside Rg1 on the neurite growth of RGCs., Methods: Expression of proteins and mRNA were detected by Western blot and qPCR. cAMP levels were determined by ELISA. In vivo effects of Rg1 on RGCs were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin, and immunohistochemistry staining., Results: This study found that Rg1 promoted the growth and synaptic plasticity of RGCs neurite by activating the cAMP/PKA/CREB pathways. Meanwhile, Rg1 upregulated the expression of GAP43, Rac1 and PAX6, which are closely related to the growth of neurons. Meantime, H89, an antagonist of PKA, could block this effect of Rg1. In addition, we preliminarily explored the effect of Rg1 on enhancing the glycolysis of RGCs, which could be one of the mechanisms for its neuroprotective effects., Conclusion: Rg1 promoted neurite growth of RGCs through cAMP/PKA/CREB pathways. The reassigned spectrogram (RS) has emerged as the most accurate way to infer vocal tract resonances from the acoustic signal [Shadle, Nam, and Whalen (2016). "Comparing measurement errors for formants in synthetic and natural vowels," J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 139(2), 713-727]. To date, validating its accuracy has depended on formant synthesis for ground truth values of these resonances. Synthesis is easily controlled, but it has many intrinsic assumptions that do not necessarily accurately realize the acoustics in the way that physical resonances would. Here, we show that physical models of the vocal tract with derivable resonance values allow a separate approach to the ground truth, with a different range of limitations. Our three-dimensional printed vocal tract models were excited by white noise, allowing an accurate determination of the resonance frequencies. Then, sources with a range of fundamental frequencies were implemented, allowing a direct assessment of whether RS avoided the systematic bias towards the nearest strong harmonic to which other analysis techniques are prone. RS was indeed accurate at fundamental frequencies up to 300 Hz; above that, accuracy was somewhat reduced. Background: The hepatocyte phase (HCP) in gadoxetic acid disodium (Gd-EOB-DTPA)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays an important role in the detection and characterization of liver lesions, treatment planning, and liver function evaluation. However, the imaging protocol is complicated and time-consuming. This cross-sectional study aimed to develop a convenient and reproducible protocol for the HCP acquisition in Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI., Methods: A total of 107 patients were prospectively included and assigned to three groups based on Child-Pugh (CP) classification, with 37, 40, and 30 in the non-cirrhosis, CP A, and CP B groups, respectively. Dynamic HCPs were acquired every 5 min after the Gd-EOB-DTPA administration and ended in 25 min in non-cirrhosis patients and 40 min in cirrhotic patients. The HCP acquired 5 min after the initial visualization of the intrahepatic bile duct (IBD) was selected from the dynamic HCPs as the adequate HCP (HCP proposed ) and the corresponding acquisition time was recorded as Time proposed . In addition, according to the 2016 Expert Consensus (EC) on the definition of the adequate HCP from the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR), the adequate HCP EC and the corresponding Time EC were also determined from the dynamic HCPs. The hepatic relative enhancement ratio (RER), the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of hepatic focal lesions in the HCP EC and HCP proposed images, as well as the Time EC and Time proposed were compared by the paired t -test for the three groups, respectively. Inter-observer agreement of the determination of the HCP EC and HCP proposed was compared by the χ 2 test., Results: The RER, CNR, and SNR showed no significant difference between the HCP EC and HCP proposed in all three groups (all P>0.05). The paired differences between Time EC and Time proposed were 1.08±3.56 min (P=0.07), 2.88±4.22 min (P < 0.001), and 5.83±5.27 min (P < 0.001) in the three groups, respectively. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of bisphenol A (BPA) and its substitute, bisphenol F (BPF), on the colonic fecal community structure and function of mice., Methods: We exposed 6-8-week-old male C57BL/6 mice to 5 mg/(kg∙day) and 50 μg/(kg∙day) of BPA or BPF for 14 days. Fecal samples from the colon were analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing., Results: Gut microbiome community richness and diversity, species composition, and function were significantly altered in mice exposed to BPA or BPF. This change was characterized by elevated levels of Ruminococcaceae UCG-010 and Oscillibacter and decreased levels of Prevotella 9 and Streptococcus . Additionally, pathways related to carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism showed substantial enrichment., Conclusion: Mice exposed to different BP analogs exhibited distinct gut bacterial community richness, composition, and related metabolic pathways. Developing novel porous adsorbents for efficient wastewater treatment is significant to the environment protection. Herein, three porous polycalix[ n ]arenes ( n = 4, 6, and 8) which had varying cavity sizes of the macrocycle (Azo-CX4P, Azo-CX6P, and Azo-CX8P) were prepared under mild conditions and tested for their potential application in water purification. Azo-CX8P with a larger cavity size of the macrocycle outperformed Azo-CX4P and Azo-CX6P in screening studies involving a range of organic micropollutants. It was proved that Azo-CX8P was especially efficient in the removal of cationic dyes because of its high negative surface charge. In terms of the adsorption of Rhodamine B with Azo-CX8P, the pseudo-second-order rate constant reaches 5.025 g·mg -1 ·min -1 with the maximum adsorption capacity being 1345 mg·g -1 . These values are significantly higher compared with those recorded for most adsorbents. In addition, the easily prepared Azo-CX8P can be reused at least six times without a loss of the adsorption efficiency, demonstrating its potential use in water purification.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome and risk factors for chairside CAD/CAM full cusp coverage restorations on endodontically treated posterior teeth after 3 years of follow-up., Methods: A total of 245 endodontically treated posterior teeth of 224 patients were included and restored with CAD/CAM full cusp coverage all-ceramic restorations according to a standardized protocol. Patients were recalled after treatments 1 to 3 years and underwent clinical and radiological examinations. At recall, modified FDI criteria were used to determine treatment outcomes by 2 evaluators. Success was determined when FDI scores were 1-2, and failure was indicated when FDI scores were 5. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate potential risk factors., Results: A total of 183 patients presented at recall, and the clinical outcomes of 201 teeth were analyzed with a recall rate of 82.0% for teeth and 81.7% for patients after 1-3 years of follow-up.185 of 201 teeth were found to have FDI scores of 1-2, and the success rate was 92%. No teeth were extracted during the follow-up period. Fourteen failed cases with an FDI score of 5 presented restoration dislocation, fracture of restoration or/and tooth. Logistic regression analysis revealed that oral parafunction (OR 2.281, 95% CI 2.2 ~ 47.5, P value 0.01) was a risk factor for success rate., Conclusion: Chairside CAD/CAM all-ceramic full cusp coverage restoration was (could be) a promising alternative for restoring endodontically treated posterior teeth., (© 2024. Objective: To examine associations of sleep duration and quality with cognitive impairment in older adults and the moderating role of gender and age in these associations., Methods: This community-based cross-sectional study included 4,837 participants aged 60 years and above. Cognitive function was assessed using the Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and the participants were grouped based on the presence of cognitive impairment. The duration and quality of sleep were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Multivariate logistic regression models were used to analyze associations of sleep duration and quality with cognitive impairment. The role of age and gender in these associations have also been explored., Results: The age (mean ± SD) of the participants was 71.13 ± 5.50 years. Of all older adults, 1,811 (37.44%) were detected as cognitive impairment, and 1755 (36.8%) had poor sleep quality. Among those with cognitive impairment, 51.09% were female. The proportion of the participants with cognitive impairment is significantly higher in those with symptoms of depression (49.73%, 273/549) ( χ 2  = 41.275, p  < 0.001) than in those without depressive symptoms. After adjustment for multiple confounding factors and the crucial covariate (depressive symptoms), the odds ratios (OR) (95% confidence interval [CI]) of cognitive impairment (with 7-7.9 h regarded as the reference group) for individuals with a sleep duration of <6, 6-6.9, 8-8.9, and ≥ 9 h were 1.280 (1.053-1.557), 1.425 (1.175-1.728), 1.294 (1.068-1.566), and 1.360 (1.109-1.668), respectively. Subgroup analysis showed a V-shaped association between night sleep duration and cognitive impairment in males ( p  ≤ 0.05), and the association was stronger for individuals aged 60-80 years. With regard to sleep quality, the fully adjusted OR (95%CI) of cognitive impairment were 1.263 (1.108-1.440). According to scores of subscales in the PSQI, daytime dysfunction was associated with an increased risk of cognitive impairment (OR: 1.128, 95%CI: 1.055-1.207). Subgroup analysis also revealed a statistically significant correlation between poor sleep quality (including daytime dysfunction) and cognitive impairment in different gender and age groups, with the association being stronger in females (OR: 1.287, 95%CI: 1.080-1.534) and those aged 81-97 years (OR: 2.128, 95%CI: 1.152-3.934). For cognitive impairment, the group aged 81-97 years with daytime dysfunction was associated with a higher odds ratio than other age groups., Conclusion: The present study showed that inadequate or excessive sleep was associated with cognitive impairment, especially in males, who exhibited a V-shaped association. The properties of two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs), including porosity, catalytic activity as well as electronic and optical properties, are greatly affected by their interlayer stacking structures. However, the precise control of their interlayer stacking mode, especially in a reversible fashion, is a long-standing and challenging pursuit. Herein, we prepare three 2D copper-organic frameworks, namely JNM-n (n = 7, 8, and 9). Interestingly, the reversible interlayer sliding between eclipsed AA stacking (i.e., JNM-7-AA and JNM-8-AA) and staggered ABC stacking (i.e., JNM-7-ABC and JNM-8-ABC) can be achieved through environmental stimulation, which endows reversible encapsulation and release of lipase. Importantly, JNM-7-AA and JNM-8-AA exhibit a broader light absorption range, higher charge-separation efficiency, and higher photocatalytic activity for sensitizing O 2 to 1 O 2 and O 2 •- than their ABC stacking isostructures. Consequently, JNM-8-AA deliver significantly enhanced photocatalytic activities for oxidative cross-coupling reactions compared to JNM-8-ABC and other reported homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts., (© 2024. This plant has the functions of dispelling wind, removing dampness, dispersing cold, and relieving pain. It has great development potential and application prospects in food development and medicinal value., Methods: The related references on botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry, quantitative analysis, and pharmacology of V. thibetica de Boiss had been retrieved from both online and offline databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Elsevier, Willy, SpringLink, SciFinder, Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar, ACS publications, SciHub, Scopus, and CNKI., Results: V. thibetica de Boiss exerts nourishing, appetizing, and digestive effects according to the theory of Tibetan medicine. Phytochemical reports have revealed that V. thibetica de Boiss contains flavonoids, coumarins, sterols, and organic acids. Meanwhile, the quantitative analysis of the chemical constituents of V. thibetica de Boiss has been done by means of UPLC-Q-TOF-MS. It has also been found that V. thibetica de Boiss possesses multiple pharmacological activities, including anti-fatigue, anti-oxidant, anti-aging, and non-toxic activities., Conclusion: This paper has comprehensively summarized botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry, quantitative analysis, and pharmacology of V. thibetica de Boiss. Background: Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is a cystic tumor of the pancreas arising from abnormal papillary proliferation of ductal epithelial cells, and is a precancerous lesion of pancreatic malignancy. This study aimed to evaluate associations between acute pancreatitis (AP) and histologic subtypes of IPMN., Methods: In the clinical study, patients with IPMN confirmed by surgical resection specimens at our institute between 2009 and 2021 were eligible for inclusion. Associations and predictive accuracy of AP on the presence of HGD were determined by logistic regressions. In addition, a systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted through literatures upon search in PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CKNI), and Wanfang database, up to June, 2023. Pooled effects of the associations between AP and HGD and intestinal epithelial subtype subtype, shown as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), were calculated using random effects model., Results: The retrospective cohort study included 47 patients (32 males, 15 females) diagnosed with IPMN at our center between 2009 and 2021, including 11 cases with AP (median 62 years) and 36 cases (median 64.5 years) without. Accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of AP in predicting HGD were 78.7%, 57.1%, 82.5%, 36.4%, and 91.7%, respectively. Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that AP group had greater odds of presence of HGD (OR: 6.29,95% CI: 1.14-34.57) than non-AP group. Meta-analysis of five case-control studies in the literature included 930 patients and showed that AP-IPMN patients had higher odds for HGD (OR: 2.13, 95% CI 1.38-3.29) and intestinal epithelial subtype (OR: 5.38, 95% CI: 3.50-8.27) compared to non-AP IPMN., Conclusions: AP is predictive of malignancy in patients with IPMN., (© 2023. Background and Purpose: Osteosarcoma, a primary malignant bone tumour prevalent among adolescents and young adults, remains a considerable challenge despite protracted progress made in enhancing patient survival rates over the last 40 years. Consequently, the development of novel therapeutic approaches for osteosarcoma is imperative. Sanguinarine (SNG), a compound with demonstrated potent anticancer properties against various malignancies, presents a promising avenue for exploration. Nevertheless, the intricate molecular mechanisms underpinning SNG's actions in osteosarcoma remain elusive, necessitating further elucidation., Experimental Approach: Single-stranded DNA-binding protein 1 (SSBP1) was screened out by differential proteomic analysis. Apoptosis, cell cycle, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial changes were assessed via flow cytometry. Western blotting and quantitative real-time reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) were used to determine protein and gene levels. The antitumour mechanism of SNG was explored at a molecular level using chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and dual luciferase reporter plasmids., Key Results: Our investigation revealed that SNG exerted an up-regulated effect on SSBP1, disrupting mitochondrial function and inducing apoptosis. In-depth analysis uncovered a mechanism whereby SNG hindered the JAK/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signalling pathway, relieved the inhibitory effect of STAT3 on SSBP1 transcription, and inhibited the downstream PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling axis, ultimately activating apoptosis., Conclusions and Implications: The study delved further into elucidating the anticancer mechanism of SNG in osteosarcoma. Notably, we unravelled the previously undisclosed apoptotic potential of SSBP1 in osteosarcoma cells. Purpose: This study validated incident and recurrent ischemic stroke identified by International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10) hospital discharge diagnosis codes., Methods: Using electronic health records (EHR) of adults (≥18 years) receiving care from Kaiser Permanente Southern California with ICD-10 hospital discharge diagnosis codes of ischemic stroke (I63.x, G46.3, and G46.4) between October 2015 and September 2020, we identified 75 patients with both incident and recurrent stroke events (total 150 cases). Two neurologists independently evaluated validity of ICD-10 codes through chart reviews., Results: The positive predictive value (PPV, 95% CI) for incident stroke was 93% (95% CI: 88%, 99%) and the PPV for recurrent stroke was 72% (95% CI: 62%, 82%). The PPV for recurrent stroke improved after applying a gap of 20 days (PPV of 75%; 95% CI: 63%, 87%) or removing hospital admissions related to stroke-related procedures (PPV of 78%; 95% CI: 68%, 88%)., Conclusion: The ICD-10 hospital discharge diagnosis codes for ischemic stroke showed a high PPV for incident cases, while the PPV for recurrent cases were less optimal. Background: The BushenHuoxue formula (BSHX) has been previously demonstrated to ameliorate osteoporosis, but the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are currently unclear. The present study aims at investigating the mechanisms that BSHX induces osteogenesis., Methods: We established an osteoporosis model in rats by bilateral ovariectomy and then treated the rats with an osteogenic inducer (dexamethasone, β-sodium glycerophosphate and Vitamin C) and BSHX. After that, bone marrow density and histopathological bone examination were evaluated by using HE staining and immunohistochemistry, respectively. We also assessed the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into osteoblasts by using immunofluorescence staining. ALP, BMP, and COL1A1 levels were determined by ELISA. We identified genes involved in pathogenesis of osteoporosis through Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and subsequently selected Hedgehog signaling-related genes Shh, Ihh, Gli2, and Runx2 for assessment via qRT-PCR and ELISA, Western blotting. Network pharmacology analysis was performed to identify bioactive metabolites of BSHX., Results: BSHX treatment in osteoporosis model rats promoted tightening of the morphological structure of the trabecular bone and increased the bone mineral density (BMD). BSHX also increased levels of osteoblast makers ALP, BMP, and COL1A1. Additionally, bioinformatics analysis of the GEO dataset showed that Hedgehog signaling pathway was involved in pathogenesis of osteoporosis, especially related genes Shh, Ihh, Gli2, and Runx2. Remarkably, BHSX upregulated these genes indispensably involved in the osteogenesis-related Hedgehog signaling pathway in both bone tissue and BMSCs. Importantly, we identified that quercetin was the active compounds that involved in the mechanism of BSHX-improved OP via affecting Hedgehog-related genes., Conclusion: Our results indicate that BSHX promotes osteogenesis by improving BMSC differentiation into osteoblasts via increased expression of Hedgehog signaling-related genes Shh, Ihh, Gli2, and Runx2, and quercetin was the bioactive compound of BSHX., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist., (Copyright: © 2023 Chen et al. Aim: To report the clinical prognosis and pathological findings of accidental lens vacuolar changes in eyes with intraoperative exposure to a dispersive ophthalmic viscosurgical device (OVD)., Methods: Two patients who developed transient lens vacuolar changes during uneventful persistent pupillary membrane (PPM) removal surgery were presented and followed up. This event was speculated to be associated with an intraoperative dispersive OVD DisCoVisc (hyaluronic acid 1.6%-chondroitin sulfate 4.0%) exposure. Then, to provide the pathological basis for our speculation, another four cataract patients were randomly exposed to different OVDs, and their anterior lens capsules were investigated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM)., Results: After months, the subcapsular vacuoles in both PPM cases were gradually disappeared without visual deterioration. For the cataract patients, similar lens changes were observed intraoperatively in those exposed to a dispersive DisCoVisc but not a cohesive OVD IVIZ (sodium hyaluronate gel 1.0%). In addition, marked ultrastructural changes, including chromatin condensation, extensive cytoplasmic vacuoles, and obvious intercellular space between lens epithelial cells in the anterior lens capsules of all eyes exposed to DisCoVisc, were observed by TEM., Conclusion: The lens vacuolar changes may be associated with a dispersive OVD exposure. Therefore, it is not preferable to use dispersive OVDs in patients with transparent lenses or without the intention of lens extraction. Lycopene is an important pigment with an alkene skeleton from Lycopersicon esculentum , which is also obtained from some red fruits and vegetables. Lycopene is used in the food field with rich functions and serves in the medical field with multiple clinical values because it has dual functions of both medicine and food. It was found that lycopene was mainly isolated by solvent extraction, ultrasonic-assisted extraction, supercritical fluid extraction, high-intensity pulsed electric field-assisted extraction, enzymatic-assisted extraction, and microwave-assisted extraction. Meanwhile, it was also obtained via 2 synthetic pathways: chemical synthesis and biosynthesis. Pharmacological studies revealed that lycopene has anti-oxidant, hypolipidemic, anti-cancer, immunity-enhancing, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, cardiovascular-protective, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and osteoporosis-inhibiting effects. The application of lycopene mainly includes food processing, animal breeding, and medical cosmetology fields. It is hoped that this review will provide some useful information and guidance for future study and exploitation of lycopene.
