Biodegradable flocculants are rarely used in waste activated sludge (WAS) fermentation. This study introduces an alginate-based biodegradable flocculant (ABF) to enhance both the dewatering and degradation of WAS during its fermentation. Alginate was identified in structural extracellular polymeric substances (St-EPS) of WAS, with alginate-producing bacteria comprising ∼4.2% of the total bacterial population in WAS. Owing to its larger floc size, higher contact angle, and lower free energy resulting from the Lewis acid-base interaction, the addition of the prepared ABF with a network structure significantly improved the dewaterability of WAS and reduced capillary suction time (CST) by 72%. The utilization of ABF by an enriched alginate-degrading consortium (ADC) resulted in a 35.5% increase in the WAS methane yield owing to its higher hydrolytic activity on both ABF and St-EPS. Additionally, after a 30 day fermentation, CST decreased by 62% owing to the enhanced degradation of St-EPS (74.4%) and lower viscosity in the WAS + ABF + ADC group. The genus Bacteroides , comprising 12% of ADC, used alginate lyase (EC 4.2.2.3) and pectate lyase (EC 4.2.2.2 and EC 4.2.2.9) to degrade alginate and polygalacturonate in St-EPS, respectively. Therefore, this study introduces a new flocculant and elucidates its dual roles in enhancing both the dewaterability and degradability of WAS. These advancements improve WAS fermentation, resulting in higher methane production and lower CSTs.

Kinases, a class of enzymes controlling various substrates phosphorylation, are pivotal in both physiological and pathological processes. Although their conserved ATP binding pockets pose challenges for achieving selectivity, this feature offers opportunities for drug repositioning of kinase inhibitors (KIs). This study presents a cost-effective in silico prediction of KIs drug repositioning via analyzing cross-docking results. We established the KIs database (278 unique KIs, 1834 bioactivity data points) and kinases database (357 kinase structures categorized by the DFG motif) for carrying out cross-docking. Comparative analysis of the docking scores and reported experimental bioactivity revealed that the Atypical, TK, and TKL superfamilies are suitable for drug repositioning. Among these kinase superfamilies, Olverematinib, Lapatinib, and Abemaciclib displayed enzymatic activity in our focused AKT-PI3K-mTOR pathway with IC 50 values of 3.3, 3.2 and 5.8 μM. Further cell assays showed IC 50 values of 0.2, 1.2 and 0.6 μM in tumor cells. Actinidia arguta, the most widely distributed Actinidia species and the second cultivated species in the genus, can be distinguished from the currently cultivated Actinidia chinensis on the basis of its small and smooth fruit, rapid softening, and excellent cold tolerance. Adaptive evolution of tetraploid Actinidia species and the genetic basis of their important agronomic traits are still unclear. Here, we generated a chromosome-scale genome assembly of an autotetraploid male A. arguta accession. The genome assembly was 2.77 Gb in length with a contig N50 of 9.97 Mb and was anchored onto 116 pseudo-chromosomes. Resequencing and clustering of 101 geographically representative accessions showed that they could be divided into two geographic groups, Southern and Northern, which first diverged 12.9 million years ago. A. arguta underwent two prominent expansions and one demographic bottleneck from the mid-Pleistocene climate transition to the late Pleistocene. Population genomics studies using paleoclimate data enabled us to discern the evolution of the species' adaptation to different historical environments. Three genes (AaCEL1, AaPME1, and AaDOF1) related to flesh softening were identified by multi-omics analysis, and their ability to accelerate flesh softening was verified through transient expression assays. A set of genes that characteristically regulate sexual dimorphism located on the sex chromosome (Chr3) or autosomal chromosomes showed biased expression during stamen or carpel development. Retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor γ (RORγ) acts as a crucial transcription factor in Th17 cells and is involved in diverse autoimmune disorders. RORγ allosteric inhibitors have gained significant research focus as a novel strategy to inhibit RORγ transcriptional activity. Leveraging the high affinity and selectivity of RORγ allosteric inhibitor MRL-871 ( 1 ), this study presents the design, synthesis, and characterization of 11 allosteric fluorescent probes. Utilizing the preferred probe 12h , we established an efficient and cost-effective fluorescence polarization-based affinity assay for screening RORγ allosteric binders. By employing virtual screening in conjunction with this assay, 10 novel RORγ allosteric inhibitors were identified. The initial SAR studies focusing on the hit compound G381-0087 are also presented. The encouraging outcomes indicate that probe 12h possesses the potential to function as a powerful tool in facilitating the exploration of RORγ allosteric inhibitors and furthering understanding of RORγ function.

We generated PUMCi005-A, an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line, from dermal fibroblasts of a 32-year-old female Perrault syndrome patient with double heterozygous (794 G > A and 1181 G > A) mutations in the TWNK gene using Sendai viral delivery of OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, and c-MYC. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common type of blood cancer and has been strongly correlated with the overexpression of Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3), a member of the class III receptor tyrosine kinase family. With the emergence of FLT3 internal tandem duplication alteration (ITD) and tyrosine kinase domain (TKD) mutations, the development of FLT3 small molecule inhibitors has become an effective medicinal chemistry strategy for AML. Herein, we have designed and synthesized two series of 1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine derivatives CM1-CM24, as FLT3 inhibitors based on F14, which we previously reported, that can target the hydrophobic FLT3 back pocket. Among these derivates, CM5 showed significant inhibition of FLT3 and FLT3-ITD, with inhibitory percentages of 57.72 % and 53.77 % respectively at the concentration of 1 μΜ. Furthermore, CM5 demonstrated potent inhibition against FLT3-dependent human AML cell lines MOLM-13 and MV4-11 (both harboring FLT3-ITD mutant), with IC 50 values of 0.75 μM and 0.64 μM respectively. In our cellular mechanistic studies, CM5 also effectively induces apoptosis by arresting cell cycle progression in the G0/G1 phase. In addition, the amide and urea linker function were discussed in detail based on computational simulations studies. Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal system. ZNF710 is a transcription factor (TF), and zinc finger protein 710 (ZNF710)-AS1-201 is an immune-related long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is upregulated in GC cells., Aim: To assess the correlation between ZNF710-AS1-201 and immune microenvironment features and to investigate the roles of ZNF710-AS1-201 in the invasion and metastasis processes of GC cells., Methods: We obtained data from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Wujin Hospital. We assessed cell growth, migration, invasion, and programmed cell death using cell counting kit-8, EdU, scratch, Transwell, and flow cytometry assays. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to identify the potential downstream targets of ZNF710-AS1-201., Results: In GC tissues with low ZNF710-AS1-201 expression, immunoassays detected significant infiltration of various antitumor immune cells, such as memory CD8 T cells and activated CD4 T cells. In the low-expression group, the half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC 50 s) of 5-fluorouracil, cisplatin, gemcitabine, and trametinib were lower, whereas the IC 50 s of dasatinib and vorinostat were higher. The malignant degree of GC was higher and the stage was later in the high-expression group. Additionally, patients with high expression of ZNF710-AS1-201 had lower overall survival and disease-free survival rates. In vitro, the overexpression of ZNF710-AS1-201 greatly enhanced growth, metastasis, and infiltration while suppressing cell death in HGC-27 cells. In contrast, the reduced expression of ZNF710-AS1-201 greatly hindered cell growth, enhanced apoptosis, and suppressed the metastasis and invasion of MKN-45 cells. The expression changes in ZNF710 were significant, but the corresponding changes in isocitrate dehydrogenase-2, Semaphorin 4B, ARHGAP10, RGMB, hsa-miR-93-5p, and ZNF710-AS1-202 were not consistent or statistically significant after overexpression or knockdown of ZNF710-AS1-201, as determined by qRT-PCR., Conclusion: Immune-related lncRNA ZNF710-AS1-201 facilitates the metastasis and invasion of GC cells. It appears that ZNF710-AS1-201 and ZNF710 have potential as effective targets for therapeutic intervention in GC. Polysaccharides in extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) can form a hybrid matrix network with proteins, impeding waste-activated sludge (WAS) fermentation. Amino sugars, such as N -acetyl-d-glucosamine (GlcNAc) polymers and sialic acid, are the non-negligible components in the EPS of aerobic granules or biofilm. However, the occurrence of amino sugars in WAS and their degradation remains unclear. Thus, amino sugars (∼6.0%) in WAS were revealed, and the genera of Lactococcus and Zoogloea were identified for the first time. Chitin was used as the substrate to enrich a chitin-degrading consortium (CDC). The COD balances for methane production ranged from 83.3 and 95.1%. Chitin was gradually converted to oligosaccharides and GlcNAc after dosing with the extracellular enzyme. After doing enriched CDC in WAS, the final methane production markedly increased to 60.4 ± 0.6 mL, reflecting an increase of ∼62%. Four model substrates of amino sugars (GlcNAc and sialic acid) and polysaccharides (cellulose and dextran) could be used by CDC. Treponema (34.3%) was identified as the core bacterium via excreting chitinases (EC 3.2.1.14) and N -acetyl-glucosaminidases (EC 3.2.1.52), especially the genetic abundance of chitinases in CDC was 2.5 times higher than that of WAS. Thus, this study provides an elegant method for the utilization of amino sugar-enriched organics.

Suppression of noise and vibration suppression is important in various fields, such as the living environment, industrial development, and national defense and security. The bandgap properties of phononic crystal metamaterials provide an approach for controlling and eliminating harmful vibrations in equipment and noise in the environment. In this study, we used two types of two-dimensional honeycomb gyroscopic metamaterials: free and constrained. The dynamic equations of the two systems were established using angular momentum and Lagrange theorems. The dispersion relations of the two systems were obtained based on the Bloch theorem, and the influence of the gyroscope angular momentum or gyroscope speed on the dispersion relations was analyzed. Numerical simulations were conducted to analyze the wave propagation characteristics and polarization under different excitation conditions in a limited space for both types of metamaterial structures. The constrained-type and free-type metamaterials were compared, and the regularities of the dispersion relations and wave propagation characteristics by the gyroscope effect were summarized. This study provided a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the bandgap and wave propagation properties of gyroscopic metamaterials and provided ideas for the design of bandgap modulation in metamaterials.

The therapeutic benefits of available FLT3 inhibitors for AML are limited by drug resistance, which is related to mutations, as well toxicity caused by off-target effects. In this study, we introduce a new small molecule FLT3 inhibitor called danatinib, which was designed to overcome the limitations of currently approved agents. Danatinib demonstrated greater potency and selectivity, resulting in cytotoxic activity specific to FLT3-ITD and/or FLT3-TKD mutated models. It also showed a superior kinome inhibition profile compared to several currently approved FLT3 inhibitors. In diverse FLT3-TKD models, danatinib exhibited substantially improved activity at clinically relevant doses, outperforming approved FLT3 inhibitors. In vivo safety evaluations performed on the granulopoiesis of transgenic myeloperoxidase (MPO) zebrafish and mice models proved danatinib to have an acceptable safety profile. Exposure of dark-grown etiolated seedlings to light triggers the transition from skotomorphogenesis/etiolation to photomorphogenesis/de-etiolation. In the life cycle of plants, de-etiolation is essential for seedling development and plant survival. The mobilization of soluble sugars (glucose [Glc], sucrose, and fructose) derived from stored carbohydrates and lipids to target organs, including cotyledons, hypocotyls, and radicles, underpins de-etiolation. Therefore, dynamic carbohydrate biochemistry is a key feature of this phase transition. However, the molecular mechanisms coordinating carbohydrate status with the cellular machinery orchestrating de-etiolation remain largely opaque. Here, we show that the Glc sensor HEXOKINASE 1 (HXK1) interacts with GROWTH REGULATOR FACTOR5 (GRF5), a transcriptional activator and key plant growth regulator, in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). Subsequently, GRF5 directly binds to the promoter of phytochrome A (phyA), encoding a far-red light (FR) sensor/cotyledon greening inhibitor. We demonstrate that the status of Glc within dark-grown etiolated cotyledons determines the de-etiolation of seedlings when exposed to light irradiation by the HXK1-GRF5-phyA molecular module. Thus, following seed germination, accumulating Glc within dark-grown etiolated cotyledons stimulates a HXK1-dependent increase of GRF5 and an associated decrease of phyA, triggering the perception, amplification, and relay of HXK1-dependent Glc signaling, thereby facilitating the de-etiolation of seedlings following light irradiation. Reducing the contact time during the droplet impact on the surface is crucial for anti-icing, self-cleaning, and heat transfer optimization applications. This study aims to minimize the contact time by modifying the surface curvature to create an asymmetric impact process. Our experiments showed that the increase in Weber numbers ( We ) and the decrease in the ratio of surface diameter to droplet diameter ( D *) intensify the asymmetry of the impact process, yielding four distinct rebound modes. Low asymmetry observes the liquid retract toward the central point (Rebound Modes 1 and 2), whereas high asymmetry yields a wing-like rebound (Rebound Modes 3 and 4). In Rebound Mode 1, increased asymmetry would lead to more extended contact due to the prolonged waiting period. Conversely, the reduction in contact time in Rebound Mode 2 occurs due to increased asymmetry with no waiting period. For Rebound Modes 3 and 4, the retraction time could be divided into three stages, generated by two liquid detachment modes from the surface. Analysis reveals that an increased asymmetry would reduce the retraction time during the first stage but prolong it during the third stage, with no significant effects on the second. Four correlations, each pertaining to a distinct impact mode, are proposed based on these analyses to describe the contact time concerning We and D * for droplets impacting a superhydrophobic cylindrical surface.

Here, an Ir/Zn-cocatalyzed atroposelective [2+2+2] cycloaddition of 1,6-diynes and ynamines was developed, forging various functionalized C─N axially chiral indoles and pyrroles in generally good to excellent yields (up to 99%), excellent chemoselectivities, and high enantioselectivities (up to 98% enantiomeric excess) with wide substrate scope. This cocatalyzed strategy not only provided an alternative promising and reliable way for asymmetric alkyne [2+2+2] cyclotrimerization in an easy handle but also settled the issues of previous [Rh(COD) 2 ]BF 4 -catalyzed system on the construction of C─N axial chirality such as complex operations, limited substrate scope, and low efficiency. In addition, control experiments and theoretical calculations disclosed that Zn(OTf) 2 markedly reduced the barrier of migration insertion to significantly increase reaction efficiency, which was distinctly different from previous work on the Lewis acid for improving reaction yield through accelerating oxidative addition and reductive elimination.

We investigated the microscale electrohydrodynamic (EHD) conduction pumps in a wide range of working regimes, from the saturation regime to the ohmic regime. We showed that the existing macro- and microscale theoretical models could not accurately predict the electric force of microscale EHD conduction pumps, especially for the cases of a strong diffusion effect. We clarified that the failure is caused by a rough estimate of the heterocharge layer thickness. We revised the expression of heterocharge layer thickness by considering the diffusion effect and developed a new theoretical model for the microscale EHD conduction pumps based on the revised expression of heterocharge layer thickness. The results showed that our model can accurately predict the dimensionless electric force of the microscale EHD conduction pumps even for the cases of a strong diffusion effect. Furthermore, we developed a working regime map of microscale EHD conduction pumps and found that the microscale EHD conduction pumps more easily fall into the saturation regime compared with the macroscale EHD conduction pumps due to the enhanced diffusion effect; in other words, the microscale EHD conduction pumps have a wider saturation regime. We showed that the conduction number C 0 could not distinguish the working regime of the microscale EHD conduction pumps because it does not take the diffusion effect into account. By employing the revised expression of heterocharge layer thickness, we proposed a new dimensionless number, C 0 D to distinguish the working regimes of microscale EHD conduction pumps.

Physical thickness of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films might determine the release rate of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) & structural integrity and affect production efficiency. However, this critical issue is still unclear and little reported. Aging effects were evaluated in LDPE films with the thickness of 0.006, 0.008, 0.010 and 0.015 mm in a maize field of irrigation region. The Scanning electron microscope (SEM) results showed that the proportion of damaged area (Dam) to total area of LDPE films was massively lowered with increasing thickness after aging. The highest and lowest Dam was 32.2% and 3.5% in 0.006 and 0.015 mm films respectively. Also, the variations in peak intensity of asymmetric & symmetrical stretching vibrations (ASVI & SSVI) were detected using Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR), indicating that the declines in peak intensity tended to be slower with thickness. Interestingly, the declines in physical integrity were tightly associated with increasing exhalation rate of PAEs. Average releasing rate of PAEs was 38.2%, 31.4%, 31.5% and 19.7% in LDPE films from 0.006 to 0.015 mm respectively. Critically, thicker film mulching can lead to greater soil water storage at plough layer (SWS-PL) and better thermal status, accordingly harvesting higher economic benefit. This study aims to address the lack of relevant researches in the field of waste recycling using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). A village-scale social survey was conducted to investigate the degree of farmers' participation in a waste plastic film program, i.e. Old for New in northwest China. The program required farmers to recycle plastic film residues in exchange for new films. Survey results showed that 67.5% of farmers accepted the program, yet only 14.5% of them actually participated. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze questionnaire data and identify the factors that significantly affected farmers' recycling behavior. Principal component and weight analysis further showed that farmers' participation was mainly influenced by their attitudes (p < 0.01), with a relative weight (RW) of 46.3%. Yet, subjective norms (p < 0.1) and perceived behavior control (p < 0.1) had less effect on the degree of participation, and their RWs were 4.2% and 4.1% only, respectively. Moreover, the RW of plastic film usage characteristics and household characteristics reached up to 13.2% and 6.4%, respectively. Interestingly, environmental awareness (β = 0.083) and compulsory environmental education (β = 0.130) as surface factors strongly affected the farmers' adoption and response, with the RW of 25.7%. As such, the extended TPB model was established to analyze the participation behavior of farmers for stronger explanatory power. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we investigate the air hole formation of water nanodroplets impacting hydrophilic to hydrophobic surfaces in the range of static contact angles from 30° to 140° with different initial surface temperatures ranging from 300 to 1000 K. We show that the hole dynamics of nanodroplets are different from those observed in millimeter-sized droplets. The hole formation can be observed on smooth surfaces for nanodroplets; however, it only occurs on nonsmooth surfaces for millimeter-sized droplets. We clarify that the hole formation of nanodroplets is triggered by a nucleated vapor bubble due to thermodynamic instability, whereas it is initiated by air bubble entrapment during impact due to hydrodynamic instability for millimeter-sized droplets. The hole formation of nanodroplets relies heavily on the surface temperature and surface wettability, because the nucleated vapor bubble more easily occurs and grows on the surface with high initial temperatures and hydrophobic surfaces. Based on the thermal stability analysis, a criterion is developed to predict the hole formation of nanodroplets, which verifies the dependence of hole formation on the surface temperature and wettability. Furthermore, we show that the ring-bouncing of nanodroplets is triggered by the nucleated vapor bubble. We clarify the reasons for the reduced contact time of nanodroplets caused by the ring-bouncing.

Small molecule covalent drugs have proved to be desirable therapies especially on drug resistance related to point mutations. Secondary mutations of FLT3 have become the main mechanism of FLT3 inhibitors resistance which further causes the failure of treatment. Herein, a series of 4-(4-aminophenyl)-6-phenylisoxazolo[3,4-b]pyridine-3-amine covalent derivatives were synthesized and optimized to overcome the common secondary resistance mutations of FLT3. Among these derivatives, compound F15 displayed potent inhibition activities against FLT3 (IC 50  = 123 nM) and FLT3-internal tandem duplication (ITD) by 80% and 26.06%, respectively, at the concentration of 1 μM. Besides, F15 exhibited potent activity against FLT3-dependent human acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines MOLM-13 (IC 50  = 253 nM) and MV4-11 (IC 50  = 91 nM), as well as BaF3 cells with variety of secondary mutations. Furthermore, cellular mechanism assays indicated that F15 inhibited phosphorylation of FLT3 and its downstream signaling factors. Selenium (Se) is a vital trace element in the regulation of inflammation and antioxidant reactions in both animals and humans. Se deficiency is rapidly affecting lung function. The present study investigated the molecular mechanism of Se deficiency aggravates reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced inflammation, leading to fibrosis in lung. Mice fed with different concentrations of Se to establish the model. In the Se-deficient group, the ROS and malondialdehyde (MDA) was increased, and the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and catalase (CAT) reduced. The histopathological observation showed that Se deficiency lead to lung texture damage with varying degrees of degeneration, necrosis, shedding of some alveolar epithelial cells, and inflammatory cell infiltration. Immunohistochemistry showed that the expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) increased. The fibrosis index was verified with Sirius red staining. The ELISA and qPCR results showed that the inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-1β) and ECM (collagen I, collagen IV, fibronectin, and laminin) were increased with ROS increasing, which was induced by Se deficiency. The results displayed that oxidative stress with Se deficiency led to an increase in tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (TIMPs), but a decrease in matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). All the results indicated that Se deficiency induced excessive ROS accumulation to generate inflammation, which disrupted ECM homeostasis and aggravated fibrosis in the lung., (© 2022. Herein, an I 2 -catalyzed unprecedented cycloisomerization of ynamides is developed, furnishing various functionalized bis(indole) derivatives in generally good to excellent yields with wide substrate scope and excellent atom-economy. This protocol not only represents the first molecular-iodine-catalyzed tandem complex alkyne cycloisomerizations, but also constitutes the first chemoselective cycloisomerization of tryptamine-ynamides involving distinctively different C(sp 3 )-C(sp 3 ) bond cleavage and rearrangement. Moreover, chiral tetrahydropyridine frameworks containing two stereocenters are obtained with moderate to excellent diastereoselectivities and excellent enantioselectivities. Meanwhile, cycloisomerization and aromatization of ynamides produce pyrrolyl indoles with high efficiency enabled by I 2 . Thickness of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film might determine its mechanical strength, clean production and soil health. Yet, this issue is little understood. In situ aging effects were evaluated in LDPE films with the thickness of 0.006 mm, 0.008 mm, 0.010 mm and 0.015 mm in maize field. The data showed that maximum tensile force (TFmax), maximum tensile strength (TSmax) and elongation at break (EAB) were massively lowered with increasing thickness after aging. The greatest and lowest reduction magnitude of EAB was 27.6 % and 11.2 % in 0.006 mm and 0.015 mm films respectively. Also, the melting point (Tm) and crystallinity (Xc) under Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) tended to decline with the increasing thickness. Moreover, the peak intensity of crystalline regions tended to transfer and concentrate on the amorphous regions, and such tendency became more pronounced in the thin films. Interestingly, there existed a pronounced distinct thickness-dependent effects on soil bulk density (SBD) and soil water-stable aggregate proportion. Thick plastic film mulching increased SBD but reduced the proportion of macroaggregates (mainly referred to 0.015 mm and 0.010 mm). In addition, thick film mulching slightly reduced the levels of soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN), but significantly promoted the contents of soil labile C and N. Particularly, it significantly promoted above- & under-ground biomass of maize across two growing seasons (p < 0.05). To sum up, thickening LDPE film may act as a promising solution to improve LDPE film residue recycling, while benefiting for higher productivity. Background: Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) undergoing bowel resection often suffer from depression and acute pain, which severely impairs their recovery. We aimed to investigate the effects of S-ketamine preconditioning on postoperative depression in patients with CD undergoing a bowel resection with mild to moderate depression and to observe whether it can relieve postoperative pain and anti-inflammation. Methods: A total of 124 adult patients were randomized into one of the two groups. Patients in the S-ketamine group received a 0.25 mg/kg S-ketamine intravenous drip under general anesthesia induction, followed by a continuous infusion of S-ketamine with 0.12 mg/kg/h for more than 30 min through target-controlled infusion. Patients in the placebo group received 0.9% saline at an identical volume and rate. The primary outcome measure was the 17-item Hamilton depression Scale (HAMD-17). The secondary outcomes were scores on the following questionnaires: a nine-item patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9); a quality of recovery (QoR-15) form; and a numeric rating scale (NRS). Additional secondary outcomes included the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) on postoperative days (PODs) 1, 3, and 5, the length of hospital stay, and opioid use throughout the hospital stay. Results: The scores of PHQ-9 and HAMD-17 in the S-ketamine group were lower than those in the placebo group on postoperative days (PODs) 1, 2, and 7 ( p < 0.05). The scores of QoR-15 in the S-ketamine group were higher than those in the placebo group on postoperative days (PODs) 3 and 5 ( p < 0.05). The NRS scores of PACU, postoperative days 1 and 2 in the S-ketamine group were lower than those in the placebo group ( p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the CRP and IL-6 levels on postoperative days (PODs) 1, 3, and 5, postoperative complications, and hospital stay between the two groups ( p > 0.05). Conclusions: The trial indicated that the intraoperative administration of low-dose S-ketamine could alleviate mild-to-moderate depressive symptoms and postoperative pain in patients with Crohn's disease undergoing bowel resection without worsening their safety.

Background: Infertility is a global medical and social problem that affects human health and social development. At present, about 15% of couples of the right age in the world are infertile. As all we know, genetic defects are the most likely underlying cause of the pathology. ATP5D is also known as the delta subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase. Mitochondria maintain sperm vitality, capacitation, acrosome reaction, and DNA integrity through ATP. Mitochondrial damage can trigger energy synthesis disorders, resulting in decreased sperm quality and function or even disappearance. The specific role of ATP5D in regulation of the male reproductive system remains elusive., Methods: In this study, semen from normal and infertile males were collected and their indicators were examined by analysis of routine sperm parameters; ATP5D protein content in semen was examined by ELISA. Singer sequencing was used to detect whether there was a mutated of ATP5D in semen. Meanwhile, ATP5D knockout (KO) and knockin (KI) male mice were selected at 8-12 weeks of age and mated with adult wild-type (WT) female mice for more than two months to assess their fertility and reproductive ability. Morphological changes in tissues such as testes and epididymis were observed by HE staining; spermatozoa were taken from the epididymis of the mice; sperm counts were performed and morphological changes were observed by Diff-Quik staining., Results: The results showed that the expression of ATP5D in infertile males was significantly lower than that in normal males ( P < 0.001) and the normal morphology rate of spermatozoa was much lower than that of normal males, and the sequencing results showed no mutations. The animal reproductive experiments showed no significant changes in the number of fertility in KO/KI mice compared with WT mice, but the duration of fertility was significantly longer ( P = 0.02). The testicular cells in KO mice were loosely arranged and disorganized, the lumen was larger, the interstitial cells were atrophied, and the number of spermatozoa was reduced and the malformation rate was higher in WT males. This suggests that ATP5D is an essential protein for sperm formation and fertility in male mice and may be used as a biomarker of male fertility., Conclusion: This study found ATP5D correlated with male infertility and the expression levels were significantly reduced in the seminal plasma of all male infertile patients without gene mutations. KO male significantly prolonged fertility time and impaired testicular histomorphology. This suggests that ATP5D may be associated with spermatogenic function and fertility in male mice and may be used as a biomarker for male fertility. Future studies are required to elucidate the potential mechanisms. Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is an important cause of neonatal death and disability, which can lead to long-term neurological and motor dysfunction. Currently, inhalation anesthetics are widely used in surgery, and some studies have found that isoflurane (ISO) may have a positive effect on neuroprotection. In this paper, we investigated whether ISO pretreatment has a neuroprotective effect on the neurological function of HIE rats. Here, 7-day-old neonatal rats were randomly divided into a sham group, a hypoxic-ischemic (HI) group, and an ISO pretreatment (pretreatment) group. The pretreatment group was pretreated with 2% ISO for 1 h, followed by the HI group to establish an HI animal model. The HI‑induced neurological injury was evaluated by Zea‑Longa scores and triphenyltetrazolium (TTC) staining. Neuronal number and histomorphological changes were observed with Nissl staining and Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. In addition, motor learning memory function was evaluated by the Morris water maze (MWM), the Y-maze, and the rotarod tests. HI induced severe neurological dysfunction, brain infarction, and cell apoptosis as well as obvious neuron loss in neonatal rats. In the MWM, the rats in the pretreatment group showed a decrease in escape latency ( p  = 0.042), indicating that pretreatment with ISO could improve the learning ability of HI rats. The results of Nissl staining showed that in the HI group, there was an irregular arrangement of neurons and nuclear fixation; however, the cell damage was significantly reduced and the total number of neurons was increased after ISO pretreatment ( p  < 0.001). In conclusion, ISO pretreatment improved cognitive function and attenuated HI-induced reduction of Nissl-positive cells and spatial memory impairment, suggesting that pretreatment with ISO before HI modeling could reduce neuronal cell death in the hippocampus after HI., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2022 The Authors. This article aims to detect the effect of SAM domain, SH3 domain, and nuclear localization signal 1 (SAMSN1) in neonatal rats with neurological dysfunction induced by hypoxia and ischemia (HI). The HI model was created using 7-day postnatal rats. Zea-longa score was utilized to validate the neurological injury after HI. Then, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected by gene sequencing and bioinformatics analysis methods. The oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) models were established in the SY5Y cells and fetal human cortical neurons. In addition, SAMSN1-small interfering RNA, methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay, and cell growth curve were employed to evaluate the cell viability variation. Obviously, Zea-longa scores increased in rats with HI insult. Subsequently, SAMSN1 was screened out, and it was found that SAMSN1 was strikingly upregulated in SY5Y cells and fetal neurons post-OGD. Interestingly, we found that SAMSN1 silencing could markedly enhance cell viability and cell growth after OGD. These data suggested that downregulation of SAMSN1 may exert a neuroprotective effect on damaged neurons after HI by improving cell viability and cell survival, which provides a potential theoretical basis for clinical trials in the future to treat neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2022 The Authors. Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) mutation has been strongly associated with increased risk of relapse, and the irreversible covalent FLT3 inhibitors had the potential to overcome the drug-resistance. In this study, a series of simplified 4-(4-aminophenyl)-6-methylisoxazolo[3,4-b] pyridin-3-amine derivatives containing two types of Michael acceptors (vinyl sulfonamide, acrylamide) were conveniently synthesized to target FLT3 and its internal tandem duplications (ITD) mutants irreversibly. The kinase inhibitory activities showed that compound C14 displayed potent inhibition activities against FLT3 (IC 50  = 256 nM) and FLT3-ITD by 73 % and 25.34 % respectively, at the concentration of 1 μM. The antitumor activities indicated that C14 had strong inhibitory activity against the human acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines MOLM-13 (IC 50  = 507 nM) harboring FLT3-ITD mutant, as well as MV4-11 (IC 50  = 325 nM) bearing FLT3-ITD mutation. The biochemical analyses showed that these effects were related to the ability of C14 to inhibit FLT3 signal pathways, and C14 could induce apoptosis in MV4-11 cell as demonstrated by flow cytometry. Fortunately, C14 showed very weak potency against FLT3-independent human cervical cancer cell line HL-60 (IC 50  > 10 μM), indicating that it might have no off-target toxic effects. Objective: To investigate the effects of mitochondrion-targeted cyanine fluorescent small molecule IR-61 on cardiac injury induced by exhaustive exercise in rats., Methods: Thirty-six adult male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups( n =12),control group (Ctrl), exhaustive exercise group (EE) and IR-61+ exhaustive exercise group (IR-61+EE). IR-61+EE group were intraperitoneally injected with 2 mg/kg IR-61 at the same time on day 1, 4 and 7. One hour after the end of the last drug administration, the two exhaustive exercise groups were subjected to exhaustive exercise modeling. The rats were placed on an animal treadmill with a slope of 0° at a speed of 10~15 m/min to coordinate their limbs running posture, and then ran at a speed of 25~30 m/min until exhaustion about 15 minutes later. After the animal models established, ECG was recorded by physiological recorder, myocardial injury was observed by light microscope, mitochondrial injury was observed by transmission electron microscope, myocardial cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL method, markers of myocardial injury were detected by ELISA, and myocardial mitochondrial respiration rate was measured by high-resolution Oxygraph-2K mitochondrial instrument., Results: ① Compared with Ctrl group, heart rate was increased, PR interval was shortened, QRS interval was prolonged, QTc was prolonged and ST segment was depressed significantly in EE group ( P ＜0.05). In EE group, myocardial fiber fracture and mitochondrial inner chamber swelling were obvious, mitochondrial crest was fuzzy, mitochondrial outer membrane was incomplete, and a large number of mitochondrial rupture and fusion were visible. In EE group, TUNEL staining cells were abundant, chromatin concentration and marginalization, nuclear membrane lysis, chromatin fragmentation into massive apoptotic bodies, apoptosis score increased ( P ＜0.05). The levels of creatine kinase isoenzyme-MB (CK-MB), cardiac troponin I(cTn-I) and N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) were increased in EE group ( P ＜0.05). Basal respiration rate, oxidative respiration rate of fatty acids and respiration rate of complex Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅳ were all decreased ( P ＜ 0.05). ② Compared with EE group, the heart rate in IR-61+EE group was increased, PR interval was prolonged, QRS interval was shortened, QTc was shortened, ST segment was not significantly depressed ( P ＜0.05). In IR-61+EE group, myocardial fiber arrangement was loose, no obvious fracture was observed, mitochondrial inner ventricle was swelling, mitochondrial outer membrane was intact, TUNEL stained cells and unstained cells were observed, the overall morphology was more similar to Ctrl group. Apoptosis index was decreased ( P ＜0.05), the levels of CK-MB and cTn-I were decreased in IR-61+EE group ( P ＜0.05). The oxidative respiration rate of fatty acids and the respiration rate of complex Ⅱ and Ⅳ were increased ( P ＜0.05)., Conclusion: Mitochondrion-targeted cyanine fluorescent small molecule IR-61 can improve cardiac electrical activity, reduce myocardial cell injury and mitochondrial injury, reduce myocardial cell apoptosis, and improve the myocardial mitochondrial energy metabolism condition in exhausted rats.

Environmental risk of multi-year polythene film mulching (PM) was evaluated and investigated. The location observation following 19-year (2000-2018) PM in irrigated region indicated that the cumulative accumulation of soil microplastics was as high as 2900 ± 19.5 n kg -1 . Microplastic accumulation was tightly associated with soil plasticizer concentration (Pearson's r = 0.728, p <0.05), and the concentration of dominant phthalic acid esters (PAEs) was up to 117.5-705 μg kg -1 . As such, we conducted organic mulching substitute experiment (2019-2020) with non-mulching (CK), maize straw mulching (SM), living clover mulching (CM), PM, PM+SM and PM+CM respectively. The data showed that organic mulching (SM, CM) achieved similar productivity benefit as PM-involved treatments (p > 0.05). Critically, total concentration of PAEs decreased by 6.43% in SM relative to CK, and by 9.61% in PM+SM relative to PM respectively. High throughput sequencing indicated that the proportions of predominant bacteria and fungi were totally lower in PM than those of organic mulching, particularly Sphingomonadaceae and Stachybotryaceae. KEGG analyses indicated that organic mulching promoted the metabolisms of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzoic acid (probability>75%) and heterologous organism metabolism (p<0.001), due to improved microbial community assembly. Purpose: We aim to identify the risk factors of PPOI in patients with CD and create a nomogram for prediction of PPOI for CD., Methods: Data on 462 patients who underwent partial intestinal resection for CD in Jin-ling Hospital between January 2019 and June 2021 were retrospectively collected. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to determine the risk factors for PPOI and we used the risk factors to create a nomogram. Then we used the Bootstrap-Concordance index and calibration diagrams to evaluate the performance of the Nomogram. Decision curve analysis was performed to evaluate clinical practicability of the model., Results: The incidence of PPOI was 27.7% (n of N). Course of CD ≥ 10 years, operation time ≥ 154 min, the lowest mean arterial pressure ≤ 76.2 mmHg, in-out balance per body weight ≥ 22.90 ml/kg, post-op day 1 infusion ≥ 2847 ml, post-op lowest K +  ≤ 3.75 mmol/L, and post-op day 1 procalcitonin ≥ 2.445 ng/ml were identified as the independent risk factors of PPOI in patients with CD. The nomogram we created by these risk factors presented with good discriminative ability (concordance index 0.723) and was moderately calibrated (bootstrapped concordance index 0.704). The results of decision curve analysis showed that the nomogram was clinically effective within probability thresholds in the 8 to 66% range., Conclusion: The nomogram we developed is helpful to evaluate the risk of developing PPOI after partial intestinal resection for CD. Background: β-N-oxalyl-l-α,β-diaminopropionic acid (β-ODAP) is a physiological indicator in response to drying soil. However, how abscisic acid (ABA) modulates β-ODAP accumulation and its related agronomic characteristics in drought stressed grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) continue to be unclear. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of ABA addition on drought tolerance, agronomic characteristics and β-ODAP content in grass pea under drought stress., Results: Exogenous ABA significantly promoted ABA levels by 19.3% and 18.3% under moderate and severe drought stress, respectively, compared to CK (without ABA, used as control check treatment). ABA addition activated earlier trigger of non-hydraulic root-sourced signal at 69.1% field capacity (FC) (65.5% FC in CK) and accordingly prolonged its operation period to 45.6% FC (49.0% FC in CK). This phenomenon was mechanically associated with the physiological mediation of ABA, where its addition significantly promoted the activities of leaf superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase enzymes and the biosynthesis of leaf proline, simultaneously lowering the accumulation of malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide under moderate and severe stresses. Interestingly, ABA application significantly increased seed β-ODAP content by 21.7% and 21.3% under moderate and severe drought stress, but did not change leaf β-ODAP content. Furthermore, ABA application produced similar shoot biomass and grain yield as control groups., Conclusion: Exogenous ABA improved the drought adaptability of grass pea and promoted the synthesis of β-ODAP in seeds but not in leaves. Biodegradable (Bio) plastic films are widely viewed as promising alternative products of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films to minimize plastic debris accumulation and pollution in agroecosystems. Yet, this speculation indeed lacks of sufficient evidences. We conducted a landfill investigation on the aging characteristics of Bio and LDPE plastic films in maize field, and the effects on soil aggregate composition and carbon & nitrogen stocks. The degradation rate of Bio film was up to 41.1% while that of LDPE film was zero. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed that the crack formation of Bio film had a pronounced domino effect, and FTIR showed that old Bio film displayed an extra wide peak threshold ranging from 3000 to 3500 cm -1 . Particularly, the abundance of microplastics was elevated with the increased plastic residues, and the increment mostly resulted from Bio residues. Critically, plastic residues significantly lowered the soil macro-aggregates (>0.25 mm) proportion, while increasing that of micro-aggregates (0.1-0.25 mm) in LDPE, and silt/clay fraction (<0.1 mm) in Bio respectively. They significantly promoted total nitrogen content of the aggregates with the same size, but decreased the organic carbon content, dramatically lowering the C/N. Intensive use of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic films in agro-ecosystems has raised considerable concerns due to the increasing film residues in soils. It is unclear how the increased film residues affect soil properties and crop productivity and whether biodegradable (Bio) film can substitute LDPE. To address the issue, we designed a landfill experiment with different addition levels of plastic residue into soils of maize (Zea mays L.) field from 2018 to 2019. Six treatments were arranged as PMT1-T3/BioT1-T3, representing the low, medium, and high-level application of LDPE / Bio film fragments, with no residual film, applied as CK. Results show that, soil bulk density was significantly increased from 1.19 to 1.31 g/cm 3 regardless of residue types. In contrast, soil porosity was lowered from 58.03% in CK to 57.36% in Bio and 56.12% in LDPE significantly (P < 0.05). Increased residues improved soil nitrogen level and lowered the C/N ratio significantly. Also, it decreased microbial biomass C and N levels but with no change in C/N (P < 0.05). Maize yield and WUE decreased, while soil water storage increased significantly. The kinematic time and maximum spreading time for the impact of nanodroplets of different types of fluids on solid surfaces with different wettability are investigated. It shows that the capillary regime still exits for the nanodroplet impact, even if viscous dissipation increases significantly when the droplet size reduces to the nanoscale. By taking into account the influence of liquid types and surface wettability, we first obtain scaling laws of the maximum spreading time for the capillary and viscous regimes. We further propose a universal scaling law by interpolating the scaling laws in the two asymptotic regimes. The universal scaling law is in excellent agreement with molecular dynamics simulations for various liquids and surface wettability.

Screening suitable reference genes is the premise of quantitative Real-time PCR(qRT-PCR)for gene expression analysis. To provide stable reference genes for expression analysis of genes in Aconitum vilmorinianum, this study selected 19 candidate re-ference genes(ACT1, ACT2, ACT3, aTUB1, aTUB2, bTUB, 18S rRNA, UBQ, eIF2, eIF3, eIF4, eIF5, CYP, GAPDH1, GAPDH2, PP2A1, PP2A2, ACP, and EF1α) based on the transcriptome data of A. vilmorinianum. qRT-PCR was conducted to profile the expression of these genes in the root, stem, leaf, and flower of A. vilmorinianum. The Ct values showed that 18S rRNA with high expression level and GAPDH2 with large expression difference among organs were not suitable as the reference genes. NormFinder and geNorm showed similar results of the expression stability of the other candidate reference genes and demonstrated PP2A1, EF1α, and CYP as the highly stable ones. However, BestKeeper suggested EF1α, ACT3, and PP2A1 as the top stable genes. In view of the different results from different softwares, the geometric mean method was employed to analyze the expression stability of the candidate re-ference genes, the results of which indicated that PP2A1, EF1α, and ACT3 were the most stable. Based on the comprehensive analysis results of geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and geometric mean method, PP2A1 and EF1α presented the most stable expression in different organs of A. vilmorinianum. PP2A1 and EF1α were the superior reference genes for gene expression profiling in different organs of A. vilmorinianum.

Sweeping deposited particles is absolutely essential in order to maintain the excellent functionality of superhydrophobic surfaces. Many methods have been proposed to sweep microparticles deposited on tips of micro/nanostructures. However, how to sweep nanoparticles trapped in cavities of superhydrophobic surfaces has remained an outstanding issue. Here, we show that harnessing the reversible wetting transition provides a feasible way to sweep such nanoparticles. Using molecular dynamics simulations, we demonstrate that the electrically induced CB-W wetting transition makes liquid intrude into a groove and wet a trapped hydrophilic nanoparticle; however, once the electric field is removed, a spontaneous W-CB dewetting transition happens, and the extruded liquid transports the hydrophilic nanoparticle to the groove top, successfully picking up the trapped hydrophilic nanoparticle. We further find that the adhesion between the nanoparticle and groove bottom wall hinders the successful pickup, and picking up such a nanoparticle requires a stronger particle hydrophilicity. With the introduction of amphiphilic Janus particles into a liquid, we exhibit that the electrically induced reversible wetting transition can also successfully pick up a trapped hydrophobic nanoparticle. By means of calculations of the potential of mean force (PMF), we reveal pathways of both the CB-W wetting transition and the W-CB dewetting transition and hence answer why and how a hydrophilic or a hydrophobic nanoparticle is picked up successfully.

Nonlinear mechanics of solids is an exciting field that encompasses both beautiful mathematics, such as the emergence of instabilities and the formation of complex patterns, as well as multiple applications. Two-dimensional crystals and van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures allow revisiting this field on the atomic level, allowing much finer control over the parameters and offering atomistic interpretation of experimental observations. In this work, we consider the formation of instabilities consisting of radially oriented wrinkles around mono- and few-layer "bubbles" in two-dimensional vdW heterostructures. Interestingly, the shape and wavelength of the wrinkles depend not only on the thickness of the two-dimensional crystal forming the bubble, but also on the atomistic structure of the interface between the bubble and the substrate, which can be controlled by their relative orientation. We argue that the periodic nature of these patterns emanates from an energetic balance between the resistance of the top membrane to bending, which favors large wavelength of wrinkles, and the membrane-substrate vdW attraction, which favors small wrinkle amplitude. Employing the classical "Winkler foundation" model of elasticity theory, we show that the number of radial wrinkles conveys a valuable relationship between the bending rigidity of the top membrane and the strength of the vdW interaction. Armed with this relationship, we use our data to demonstrate a nontrivial dependence of the bending rigidity on the number of layers in the top membrane, which shows two different regimes driven by slippage between the layers, and a high sensitivity of the vdW force to the alignment between the substrate and the membrane., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing interest., (Copyright © 2021 the Author(s). Background: Generic drugs are bioequivalent to their brand-name counterparts; however, concerns still exist regarding the effectiveness and safety of generic drugs because of small sample sizes and short follow-up time in most studies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term antihypertensive efficacy, cost-effectiveness and cardiovascular outcomes of generic drugs compared with brand-name drugs., Methods: In a multicenter, community-based study including 7955 hypertensive patients who were prospectively followed up for an average of 2.5 years, we used the propensity-score-matching method to match the patients using brand-name drugs to those using generic drugs in a ratio of 1:2, 2176 patients using brand-name drugs and 4352 patients using generic drugs., Results: There were no significant differences between generic drugs and brand-name drugs in blood pressure (BP)-lowering efficacy, BP control rate, and cardiovascular outcomes including coronary heart disease and stroke. The adjusted mean (95% confidence interval [CI]) of systolic BP (SBP)-lowering was -7.9 mmHg (95% CI, -9.9 to -5.9) in the brand-name drug group and -7.1 mmHg (95% CI, -9.1 to -5.1) in the generic drug group after adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, number of antihypertensive drugs and traditionally cardiovascular risk factors. Among patients aged <60 years, brand-name drugs had a higher BP control rate (47% vs. 41%; P = 0.02) and a greater effect in lowering SBP compared with generic drugs, with the between-group difference of 1.5 mmHg (95% CI, 0.2-2.8; P = 0.03). BP control rate was higher in male patients using brand-name drugs compared with those using generic drugs (46% vs. 40%; P = 0.01). Generic drugs treatment yielded an average annual incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of $315.4 per patient per mmHg decrease in SBP compared with brand-name drugs treatment., Conclusions: Our data suggested that generic drugs are suitable and cost-effective in improving hypertension management and facilitating public health benefits, especially in low- and middle-income areas., (Copyright © 2021 The Chinese Medical Association, produced by Wolters Kluwer, Inc. under the CC-BY-NC-ND license.)

The convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) patterns of twisted bilayer samples exhibit interference patterns in their CBED spots. Such interference patterns can be treated as off-axis holograms and the phase of the scattered waves, meaning the interlayer distance can be reconstructed. A detailed protocol of the reconstruction procedure is provided in this study. In addition, we derive an exact formula for reconstructing the interlayer distance from the recovered phase distribution, which takes into account the different chemical compositions of the individual monolayers. It is shown that one interference fringe in a CBED spot is sufficient to reconstruct the distance between the layers, which can be practical for imaging samples with a relatively small twist angle or when probing small sample regions. The quality of the reconstructed interlayer distance is studied as a function of the twist angle. At smaller twist angles, the reconstructed interlayer distance distribution is more precise and artefact free. At larger twist angles, artefacts due to the moiré structure appear in the reconstruction. A method for the reconstruction of the average interlayer distance is presented. As for resolution, the interlayer distance can be reconstructed by the holographic approach at an accuracy of ±0.5 Å, which is a few hundred times better than the intrinsic z-resolution of diffraction limited resolution, as expressed through the spread of the measured k-values. Moreover, we show that holographic CBED imaging can detect variations as small as 0.1 Å in the interlayer distance, though the quantitative reconstruction of such variations suffers from large errors., (Copyright © 2020 The Authors. The spectral characteristics and sources of water-soluble organic compounds (WSOC) in PM 2.5 in winter were studied by using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy, parallel factor analysis, and backward trajectory model. The results showed that the concentration of WSOC in PM 2.5 was 4.66-14.75 μg ·m -3 . The values of E 2 / E 3 , E 3 / E 4 , S 275-295 , SUVA 254 , AAE, and MAE 365 of WSOC were, respectively, in the range of 2.85-4.32, 2.21-3.56, 0.0099-0.0127 nm -1 , 2.35-3.89 m 2 ·g -1 , 2.66-4.60, and 1.51-2.60 m 2 ·g -1 . The E 2 / E 3 , E 3 / E 4 , S 275-295 , and AAE values of WSOC at the sampling site in the southern suburb of Xi'an, China (Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology) were higher than those at the sampling site in the northern suburb (sports park), while the values of SUVA 254 and MAE 365 were lower. There were four fluorescent components in WSOC identified by the EEMs-PARAFAC model: C1 and C2 were fulvic acid-like and protein-like, respectively, and C3 and C4 were humus-like components. The fluorescence intensities and the sum of the fluorescent components were positively correlated with the concentrations of PM 2.5 , OC, WSOC, and A 254 value ( P <0.01). The fluorescence index (FI), biological source index (BIX), and humic index (HIX) values of WSOC were 1.75-2.12, 1.14-1.46, and 1.18-2.06, respectively. During the monitoring period, the air mass transmission trajectory was dominated by the local southwest of short-distance transmission, and its trajectory accounted for more than 50%. The pollutant emissions from Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Gansu also made significant contributions to the air pollution levels in Xi'an in winter. There was a small difference in the carbon component content of PM 2.5 in the northern and southern suburbs of Xi'an. The molecular weight, humification degree, and light absorption capacity of WSOC at the southern suburb sampling site were lower than those in the northern suburb where the wavelength dependence of light absorption intensity was relatively stronger. The WSOC mainly originated from biological sources or both from biological and terrestrial sources. Local transmission had the most significant contribution to PM 2.5 and WSOC in winter.

Using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we investigate impact behaviors of water nanodroplets on hydrophilic to hydrophobic surfaces with static contact angles ranging from 21 to 148° in a wide Weber number range of 15-90, aiming to understand how the surface wettability influences the maximum spreading factor of nanodroplets. We show that the existing macroscale and nanoscale models cannot capture the influence of surface wettability on the maximum spreading factor. We demonstrate that the failure is attributed to the rough estimation of the spreading velocity during the spreading stage, which is assumed to be a constant value in these models. We show that the spreading velocity strongly depends on both the surface wettability and the Weber number. After scaling with the impact velocity, we obtain a universal function of the spreading velocity with respect to the static contact angle and the Weber number. We employ this function to modify the expression of viscous dissipation and develop a new model of the maximum spreading factor. We verify that the model is in excellent agreement with the MD simulations regardless of hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces, with the mean relative deviation ranging from 0.88 to 4.75%. We also provide evidence to support the fact that incorporating the influence of surface wettability by modifying viscous dissipation is more reasonable than by modifying surface energy for nanodroplet impact.

The popular method of calculating the noncovalent interaction energies at the coupled-cluster single-, double-, and perturbative triple-excitations [CCSD(T)] theory level in the complete basis set (CBS) limit was to add a CCSD(T) correction term to the CBS second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2). The CCSD(T) correction term is the difference between the CCSD(T) and MP2 interaction energies evaluated in a medium basis set. However, the CCSD(T) calculations with the medium basis sets are still very expensive for systems with more than 30 atoms. Comparatively, the domain-based local pair natural orbital coupled-cluster method [DLPNO-CCSD(T)] can be applied to large systems with over 1,000 atoms. Considering both the computational accuracy and efficiency, in this work, we propose a new scheme to calculate the CCSD(T)/CBS interaction energies. In this scheme, the MP2/CBS term keeps intact and the CCSD(T) correction term is replaced by a DLPNO-CCSD(T) correction term which is the difference between the DLPNO-CCSD(T) and DLPNO-MP2 interaction energies evaluated in a medium basis set. The interaction energies of the noncovalent systems in the S22, HSG, HBC6, NBC10, and S66 databases were recalculated employing this new scheme. The consistent and tight settings of the truncation parameters for DLPNO-CCSD(T) and DLPNO-MP2 in this noncanonical CCSD(T)/CBS calculations lead to the maximum absolute deviation and root-mean-square deviation from the canonical CCSD(T)/CBS interaction energies of less than or equal to 0.28 kcal/mol and 0.09 kcal/mol, respectively. Convergent beam electron diffraction is routinely applied for studying deformation and local strain in thick crystals by matching the crystal structure to the observed intensity distributions. Recently, it has been demonstrated that CBED can be applied for imaging two-dimensional (2D) crystals where a direct reconstruction is possible and three-dimensional crystal deformations at a nanometre resolution can be retrieved. Here, we demonstrate that second-order effects allow for further information to be obtained regarding stacking arrangements between the crystals. Such effects are especially pronounced in samples consisting of multiple layers of 2D crystals. We show, using simulations and experiments, that twisted multilayer samples exhibit extra modulations of interference fringes in CBED patterns, i. e., a CBED moiré. A simple and robust method for the evaluation of the composition and the number of layers from a single-shot CBED pattern is demonstrated., (Copyright © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. The benefits and adverse effects of immunosuppressive drugs (ISDs) in patients with paraquat (PQ) poisoning have not been thoroughly assessed. This meta-analysis study aims to evaluate the effect of ISDs in patients with moderate to severe PQ poisoning. We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Ovid Medline, CNKI and Wanfang Data from inception to January 2019. The Mantel-Haenszel method with a random-effects model was used to calculate the pooled relative risks (RRs) and 95% Confidence Intervals (CIs) as described by DerSimonian and Laird. An L'Abbé plot was drawn to explore the relationship between the degree of poisoning and mortality. Four randomized controlled trials, two prospective and seven retrospective studies were identified. ISDs were significantly associated with reduced mortality (RR 0.76; 95% CI, 0.58-0.99) and the incidence rate of multiple-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) (RR 0.63; 95% CI, 0.48-0.83) in patients with moderate to severe PQ poisoning. They were not associated with an increased incidence rate of hepatitis and reduced incidence rate of acute renal failure and hypoxia. The L'Abbé plot results showed a slight increase in mortality rate in the ISD group with increased mortality in the placebo group. This indicates a possible advantage of ISDs in most of the patients with severe PQ poisoning. These findings suggest that ISDs may reduce the mortality and incidence rate of MODS in moderate to severe PQ poisoning patients, and severe PQ poisoning patients might benefit more from ISDs.

2D hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a wide-bandgap van der Waals crystal with a unique combination of properties, including exceptional strength, large oxidation resistance at high temperatures, and optical functionalities. Furthermore, in recent years hBN crystals have become the material of choice for encapsulating other 2D crystals in a variety of technological applications, from optoelectronic and tunneling devices to composites. Monolayer hBN, which has no center of symmetry, is predicted to exhibit piezoelectric properties, yet experimental evidence is lacking. Here, by using electrostatic force microscopy, this effect is observed as a strain-induced change in the local electric field around bubbles and creases, in agreement with theoretical calculations. No piezoelectricity is found in bilayer and bulk hBN, where the center of symmetry is restored. These results add piezoelectricity to the known properties of monolayer hBN, which makes it a desirable candidate for novel electromechanical and stretchable optoelectronic devices, and pave a way to control the local electric field and carrier concentration in van der Waals heterostructures via strain. When two-dimensional (2D) atomic crystals are brought into close proximity to form a van der Waals heterostructure, neighbouring crystals may influence each other's properties. Of particular interest is when the two crystals closely match and a moiré pattern forms, resulting in modified electronic and excitonic spectra, crystal reconstruction, and more. Thus, moiré patterns are a viable tool for controlling the properties of 2D materials. However, the difference in periodicity of the two crystals limits the reconstruction and, thus, is a barrier to the low-energy regime. Here, we present a route to spectrum reconstruction at all energies. By using graphene which is aligned to two hexagonal boron nitride layers, one can make electrons scatter in the differential moiré pattern which results in spectral changes at arbitrarily low energies. Classical prescriptions are precious wealth left by ancient Chinese medical scientists. Moreover,they are also the important part of the treasure-house in Chinese medicine. Classical prescriptions have a long and rich history for human-use in China and play an important role in keeping people healthy. The state administration of traditional medicine of China published the Catalogue of Classical Prescriptions(first batch) in 2018. This measure has inspired the enthusiasm of Chinese medicine manufacturers to study ancient classical prescriptions and develop classical compound prescriptions. Based on the first batch of classical prescriptions, the dosage forms, sources, prescription components, decocting degree, use of toxic drugs and processing methods of classical prescriptions. The results showed that most of the classical prescriptions in the first batch were decoction and boiled powder,while only four of them were powder and paste forms,all of which were originated from representative classics in the past dynasties. The dosage and decocting degree of decoction were greater than those of boiled powder. The dosage and decocting degree of decoction in Han and Tang Dynasties was close to that in Ming and Qing Dynasties,higher than that in Song and Jin Dynasties. Moreover,the average number of herbs in the prescriptions in Han Dynasty was the smallest. The use of toxic traditional Chinese medicine was the most frequent in Han Dynasty, and Pinellia ternata was the most common toxic medicine. There were various processing methods, including cleansing, cutting, stir-frying, roasting and so on. In this paper, the dosage forms of traditional paste, the time concept of decoction in the ancient times, the traditional roasting method and the processing method of toxic drugs were summarized to provide ideas and reference for further development of classical prescriptions.

The paper investigates the steady state bifurcation analysis in a general Ronsenzwing-MacArthur predator prey model with two prey-taxis under Neumann boundary conditions. The results show that the rich dynamics in predator prey systems with two prey taxis.
