The increasing prevalence of drug-resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli) resulting from the excessive utilization of antibiotics necessitates the immediate exploration of alternative approaches to counteract pathogenic E. coli. Phages, with their unique antibacterial mechanisms, are considered promising candidates for treating bacterial infections. Herein, we isolated a lytic Escherichia phage Tequatrovirus YZ2 (phage YZ2), which belongs to the genus Tequatrovirus. The genome of phage YZ2 consists of 168,356 base pairs with a G + C content of 35.34% and 269 putative open reading frames (ORFs). Of these, 146 ORFs have been annotated as functional proteins associated with nucleotide metabolism, structure, transcription, DNA replication, translation, and lysis. In the mouse model of a skin wound infected by E. coli, phage YZ2 therapy significantly promoted the wound healing. Real-time thermal sensing through flexible temperature sensors in extreme environments is critically essential for precisely monitoring chemical reactions, propellant combustions, and metallurgy processes. However, despite their low response speed, most existing thermal sensors and related sensing materials will degrade or even lose their sensing performances at either high or low temperatures. Achieving a microsecond response time over an ultrawide temperature range remains challenging. Here, we design a flexible temperature sensor that employs ultrathin and consecutive Mo 1- x W x S 2 alloy films constructed via inkjet printing and a thermal annealing strategy. The sensing elements exhibit a broad work range (20 to 823 K on polyimide and 1,073 K on flexible mica) and a record-low response time (about 30 μs). These properties enable the sensors to detect instantaneous temperature variations induced by contact with liquid nitrogen, water droplets, and flames. Furthermore, a thermal sensing array offers the spatial mapping of arbitrary shapes, heat conduction, and cold traces even under bending deformation. Despite decades of extensive research and clinical insights on the increased risk of all-cause and disease-specific morbidity and mortality due to obesity, the obesity paradox still presents a unique perspective, i.e., having a higher body mass index (BMI) offers a protective effect on adverse health outcomes, particularly in people with known cardiovascular disease (CVD). This protective effect may be due to modifiable factors that influence body weight status and health, including physical activity (PA) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), as well as non-modifiable factors, such as race and/or ethnicity. This article briefly reviews the current knowledge surrounding the obesity paradox, its relationship with PA and CRF, and compelling considerations for race and/or ethnicity concerning the obesity paradox. Background: The relationship between local epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) macrophages and atrial fibrillation (AF) remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of KCa3.1 in the migration of macrophages from EAT to adjacent atrial tissue during rapid pacing., Methods: Part 1: Eighteen beagles were randomly divided into the sham group, pacing group, and pacing + clodronate liposome (CL) group. Part 2: Eighteen beagles were randomly divided into the sham group, pacing group, and pacing + TRAM-34 group. HL-1 cells and RAW264.7 cells were cocultured to explore the specific migratory mechanism of macrophages., Results: Depleting EAT macrophages significantly reduced macrophage infiltration in the adjacent atrium and the induction of AF in canines with rapid atrial pacing. TRAM-34 significantly inhibited the migration of macrophages from EAT to the adjacent atrium and electrical remodeling in canines with rapid atrial pacing. Compared with those of the control HL-1 cells, the secretion of CCL2 and the number of migrating macrophages in pacing HL-1 cells were significantly increased, which could be reversed by TRAM-34. Further in vitro experiments showed that KCa3.1 regulated CCL2 secretion through the p65/STAT3 signaling pathway., Conclusion: Inhibiting myocardial KCa3.1 reduced the migration of EAT macrophages to adjacent atrial muscles caused by rapid atrial pacing, thereby decreasing vulnerability to AF. Coix lacryma-jobi L. is a traditional medicinal plant in east Asia and is an important crop in Guizhou province, southwest China, where there are elevated levels of soil mercury and arsenic (As). Exposure to multiple potentially toxic elements (PTEs) may affect plant accumulation of metal(loid)s and food safety in regions with high geological metal concentrations. Field experiments were conducted to study the effects of PTEs on metal(loid) accumulation and physiological response of C. lacryma in different plant parts at three pollution levels. Total root length, number of root tips, number of branches, and number of root crosses increased with increasing pollution level, with increases in highly polluted areas of 44.2, 57.0, 79.6, and 97.2%, respectively, compared to lightly polluted areas. Under multi-element stress the activity of C. lacryma antioxidant oxidase showed an increase at low and medium PTE concentrations and inhibition at high concentrations. The As contents were all below the maximum limit of cereal food contaminants in China (GB 2762-2022, As < 0.5 mg kg -1 ). The stems had high Tl bioconcentration factors but the translocation factors from stem to grain were very low, indicating that the stems may be a key plant part restricting Tl transport to the grains. C. lacryma increased root retention and reduced the transport effect, thus reducing metal accumulation in the grains. Diabetic wounds arise great attention as they are difficult to heal and easily suffer from serious bacterial infection. However, the overuse of antibiotics increases the resistance of bacteria and makes common drugs ineffective. Here, we developed a photothermal hydrogel (TFP/NP) composed of tremella fuciformis polysaccharides (TFPs) and cuttlefish ink-derived melanin nanoparticles (NPs). The NPs can produce reliable photothermal effects under near-infrared laser (NIR) irradiation and help to remove the bacteria in the wounds, while TFPs were able to form hydrogel frameworks which possessed anti-inflammatory effects and could be applied to promote wound healing. The TFP/NP hydrogels produced stable thermal effects under NIR irradiation and could continuously kill bacteria. The experiment on a full-layer skin wound sMRSA activity and could improve the healing efficiency. The wounds of the mice could be repaired within 14 days after reasonable treatment. In addition, the hydrogels play significant roles in promoting collagen deposition, anti-inflammation, angiogenesis, and cell proliferation during the therapeutic process. Aqueous Zn-ion batteries are an attractive electrochemical energy storage solution for their budget and safe properties. However, dendrites and uncontrolled side reactions in anodes detract the cycle life and energy density of the batteries. Grain boundaries in metals are generally considered as the source of the above problems but we present a diverse result. This study introduces an ultra-high proportion of grain boundaries on zinc electrodes through femtosecond laser bombardment to enhance stability of zinc metal/electrolyte interface. The ultra-high proportion of grain boundaries promotes the homogenization of zinc growth potential, to achieve uniform nucleation and growth, thereby suppressing dendrite formation. Additionally, the abundant active sites mitigate the side reactions during the electrochemical process. Consequently, the 15 μm Fs-Zn||MnO 2 pouch cell achieves an energy density of 249.4 Wh kg -1 and operates for over 60 cycles at a depth-of-discharge of 23 %. Aim(s): To examine the association between non-exercise estimated cardiorespiratory fitness (eCRF) and incident type 2 diabetes., Methods: In a sample of 13,616 men and women without diabetes at baseline, incident type 2 diabetes were determined as fasting plasma glucose level ≥ 7 mmol/l (126 mg/dL), self-report, or insulin usage at follow-up. eCRF was calculated in metabolic equivalents (METs) at baseline using sex-specific algorithms, including physical activity, smoking status, age, body mass index, waist circumference, and resting heart rate. Cox regression models were performed, and hazard ratios (HRs), 95 % confidence intervals (CIs), and p values were reported., Results: Each 1-MET unit increase in eCRF was associated with an 11 % lower risk of incident type 2 diabetes (p < 0.0001). Men in the upper and middle eCRF tertiles were at 46 % (95 % CI, 0.42-0.68) and 29 % (95 % CI, 0.57-0.88) lower risk of incident type 2 diabetes compared to the lower eCRF tertile (p < 0.0001). For women, there were no significant findings between eCRF tertiles and incident type 2 diabetes (p ≥ 0.11 for all)., Conclusions: Higher eCRF was associated with a lower incidence of type 2 diabetes in men. Objective: To evaluate the association of 5 major cause-specific non-cardiovascular disease (CVD) and non-cancer deaths with cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF)., Methods: Patients were 36,645 men (43.3±9.3 years) free of known CVD and cancer at baseline who completed a maximal treadmill graded exercise test during a preventive examination at the Cooper Clinic (Dallas, Texas) between 1971 and 2003. CRF was quantified as maximal treadmill exercise test duration and grouped as low (referent), moderate, and high. Cause-specific non-CVD non-cancer deaths were (1) diabetes or kidney disease, (2) chronic respiratory disease, (3) acute respiratory and infectious disease, (4) injuries, and (5) other non-CVD non-cancer deaths., Results: A total of 694 non-CVD non-cancer deaths occurred during an average of 17 years of follow-up. After adjustment for covariates, hazard ratios (95% confidence intervals) for moderate and high CRF, respectively, were 0.57 (0.47 to 0.69) and 0.43 (0.34 to 0.54) for overall non-CVD non-cancer deaths (P<.0001); 0.39 (0.28 to 0.54) and 0.17 (0.10 to 0.28) for diabetes or kidney disease (P<.001); 0.36 (0.22 to 0.59) and 0.09 (0.04 to 0.20) for chronic respiratory diseases (P<.001 for all); 0.74 (0.47 to 1.16) and 0.34 (0.19 to 0.61) for acute respiratory and infectious diseases (P<.01 for both); and 0.48 (0.35 to 0.66) and 0.38 (0.26 to 0.55) for any other non-CVD non-cancer deaths (P<.0001 for both)., Conclusion: Higher levels of CRF were significantly associated with lower risk of mortality from the 5 major non-CVD non-cancer causes. Two-dimensional ultrathin ferroelectrics have attracted much interest due to their potential application in high-density integration of non-volatile memory devices. Recently, 2D van der Waals ferroelectric based on interlayer translation has been reported in twisted bilayer h-BN and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). However, sliding ferroelectricity is not well studied in non-twisted homo-bilayer TMD grown directly by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). In this paper, for the first time, experimental observation of a room-temperature out-of-plane ferroelectric switch in semiconducting bilayer 3R MoS 2 synthesized by reverse-flow CVD is reported. Piezoelectric force microscopy (PFM) hysteretic loops and first principle calculations demonstrate that the ferroelectric nature and polarization switching processes are based on interlayer sliding. The vertical Au/3R MoS 2 /Pt device exhibits a switchable diode effect. Polarization modulated Schottky barrier height and polarization coupling of interfacial deep states trapping/detrapping may serve in coordination to determine switchable diode effect. Quasi-2D perovskites exhibit great potential in photodetectors due to their exceptional optoelectronic responsivity and stability, compared to their 3D counterparts. However, the defects are detrimental to the responsivity, response speed, and stability of perovskite photodetectors. Herein, an ultrafast photoexcitation-induced passivation technique is proposed to synergistically reduce the dimensionality at the surface and induce oxygen doping in the bulk, via tuning the photoexcitation intensity. At the optimal photoexcitation level, the excited electrons and holes generate stretching force on the Pb─I bonds at the interlayered [PbI 6 ] - , resulting in low dimensional perovskite formation, and the absorptive oxygen is combined with I vacancies at the same time. These two induced processes synergistically boost the carrier transport and interface contact performance. The most outstanding device exhibits a fast response speed with rise/decay time of 201/627 ns, with a peak responsivity/detectivity of 163 mA W -1 /4.52 × 10 10 Jones at 325 nm and the enhanced cycling stability. Water-to-land transition is a hallmark of terrestrialization for land plants and requires molecular adaptation to resist water deficiency. Lineages- or species-specific genes are widespread across eukaryotes, and yet the majority of those are functionally unknown and not annotated. Recent studies have revealed that some of such genes could play a role in adapting to environmental stress responses. Here, we identified a novel gene PpBCG1 (Bryophyte Co-retained Gene 1) in the moss Physcomitrium patens that was responsive to dehydration and rehydration. Under de- and rehydration treatments, PpBCG1 was significantly co-expressed with the dehydrin-encoding gene PpDHNA. Microarray data revealed that PpBCG1 was highly expressed in tissues of spores, female organ archegonia, and mature sporophytes. In addition, the Ppbcg1 mutant showed reduced ability of dehydration tolerance, whose plants were accompanied by a relatively low level of chlorophyll content during recovery. Comprehensive transcriptomics uncovered a detailed set of regulatory processes that were affected by the PpBCG1 disruption. Moreover, experimental evidence showed that PpBCG1 might function in the antioxidant activity, abscisic acid (ABA) pathway, and intracellular calcium (Ca2+) homeostasis to resist desiccation. The flexible pressure sensors with a broad pressure range and unsaturated sensitivity are highly desired in practical applications. However, pressure sensors by piezoresistive effect are always limited by the compressibility of sensing layers, resulting in a theoretically decreasing sensitivity of less than 100%. Here, a unique strategy is proposed that utilizes the strain effect, simultaneously achieving a trade-off between a wider pressure detection range and unsaturated sensitivity. Ascribed to the strain effect of sensing layers induced by interlaced microdomes, the sensors possess an increased sensitivity (5.22-70 MPa -1 ) over an ultrawide pressure range (45 Pa-4.1 MPa), a high-pressure resolution (5 Pa), fast response/recovery time (30/45 ms), and a robust response under a high-pressure loading of 3.5 MPa for more than 5000 cycles. These superior sensing performances allow the sensor to monitor large pressure. The flexible pressure sensor array can assist doctors in restoring the neutral mechanical axis, tracking knee flexion angles, and extracting gait features. Moreover, the flexible sensing array can be integrated into the joint motion surveillance system to map the balance medial-lateral contact forces on the metal compartments in real time, demonstrating the potential for further development into precise medical human-machine interfaces during total knee replacement surgery., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Wireless and wearable sensors attract considerable interest in personalized healthcare by providing a unique approach for remote, noncontact, and continuous monitoring of various health-related signals without interference with daily life. Recent advances in wireless technologies and wearable sensors have promoted practical applications due to their significantly improved characteristics, such as reduction in size and thickness, enhancement in flexibility and stretchability, and improved conformability to the human body. Currently, most researches focus on active materials and structural designs for wearable sensors, with just a few exceptions reflecting on the technologies for wireless data transmission. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art wireless technologies and related studies on empowering wearable sensors. The emerging functional nanomaterials utilized for designing unique wireless modules are highlighted, which include metals, carbons, and MXenes. Additionally, the review outlines the system-level integration of wireless modules with flexible sensors, spanning from novel design strategies for enhanced conformability to efficient transmitting data wirelessly. Furthermore, the review introduces representative applications for remote and noninvasive monitoring of physiological signals through on-skin and implantable wireless flexible sensing systems. Effectiveness of heterologous booster regimes with ad5 vectored COVID-19 vaccine in a large, diverse population during the national-scale outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 omicron predominance in China has not been reported, yet. We conducted a large-scale cohort-control study in six provinces in China, and did a retrospective survey on the COVID-19 attack risk during this outbreak. Participant aged ≥18 years in five previous trials who were primed with 1 to 3 doses of ICV received heterologous booster with either intramuscular or orally inhaled ad5 vectored COVID-19 vaccine were included in the heterologous-trial cohort. We performed propensity score-matching at a ratio of 1:4 to match participants in the heterologous-trial cohort individually with the community individuals who received three-dose of ICV as a control (ICV-community cohort). From February 4 to April 10, 2023, 41504 (74.5%) of 55710 individuals completed the survey. The median time since the most recent vaccination to the onset of the symptoms of COVID-19 was 303.0 days (IQR 293.0-322.0). The attack rate of COVID-19 in the heterologous-trial cohort was 55.8%, while that in the ICV-community cohort was 64.6%, resulting in a relative effectiveness of 13.7% (95% CI 11.9 to 15.3). In addition, a higher relative effectiveness against COVID-19 associated outpatient visits, and admission to hospital was demonstrated, which was 25.1% (95% CI 18.9 to 30.9), and 48.9% (95% CI 27.0 to 64.2), respectively. The heterologous booster with ad5 vectored COVID-19 vaccine still offered some additional protection in preventing COVID-19 breakthrough infection versus homologous three-dose regimen with ICV, 10 months after vaccination.

Although the knee joint (KNJ) and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) all belong to the synovial joint, there are many differences in developmental origin, joint structure and articular cartilage type. Studies of joint development in embryos have been performed, mainly using poultry and rodents. However, KNJ and TMJ in poultry and rodents differ from those in humans in several ways. Very little work has been done on the embryonic development of KNJ and TMJ in large mammals. Several studies have shown that pigs are ideal animals for embryonic development research. Embryonic day 30 (E30), E35, E45, E55, E75, E90, Postnatal day 0 (P0) and Postnatal day 30 (P30) embryos/fetuses from the pigs were used for this study. The results showed that KNJ develops earlier than TMJ. Only one mesenchymal condensate of KNJ is formed on E30, while two mesenchymal condensates of TMJ are present on E35. All structures of KNJ and TMJ were formed on E45. The growth plate of KNJ begins to develop on E45 and becomes more pronounced from E55 to P30. From E75 to E90, more and more vascular-rich cartilage canals form in the cartilage regions of both joints. The cartilaginous canal of the TMJ divides the condyle into sections along the longitudinal axis of the condyle. This arrangement of cartilaginous canal was not found in the KNJ. The chondrification of KNJ precedes that of TMJ. Ossification of the knee condyle occurs gradually from the middle to the periphery, while that of the TMJ occurs gradually from the base of the mandibular condyle. In the KNJ, the ossification of the articular condyle is evident from P0 to P30, and the growth plate is completely formed on P30. In the TMJ, the cartilage layer of condyle becomes thinner from P0 to P30. There is no growth plate formation in TMJ during its entire development. There is no growth plate formation in the TMJ throughout its development. The condyle may be the developmental center of the TMJ. The chondrocytes and hypertrophic chondrocytes of the growth plate are densely arranged. The condylar chondrocytes of TMJ are scattered, while the hypertrophic chondrocytes are arranged. Embryonic development of KNJ and TMJ in pigs is an important bridge for translating the results of rodent studies to medical applications.

Highly ordered periodic macroporous structures have been extensively utilized to significantly enhance the photocatalytic activity. However, constructing 3D interconnected ordered porous ternary nanostructures with highly crystalline frameworks remains a formidable challenge. Here, we introduce the design and fabrication of 3D interconnected periodic macroporous NaNbO 3 (PM NaNbO 3 ) to effectively increase the density of surface-active sites and optimize the photogenerated carrier-transfer efficiency. By incorporating Pt as a cocatalyst, PM NaNbO 3 exhibits an exceptional photocatalytic hydrogen generation rate of 10.04 mmol h -1 g -1 , which is approximately six and five times higher than those of calcined NaNbO 3 (C-NaNbO 3 ) and hydrothermal NaNbO 3 (H-NaNbO 3 ), respectively. This outstanding performance can be attributed to the synergistic effects arising from its well-interconnected pore architecture, large surface area, enhanced light absorption capability, and improved charge carrier separation and transport efficiency. The findings presented in this study demonstrate an innovative approach toward designing hierarchically periodic macroporous materials for solar-driven hydrogen production.

Cathaya argyrophylla [Chun & Kuang.] is an ancient relict plant and its embryonic development is similar to that of Pinus species. This has important scientific value for studying the phylogeny of Pinaceae (Wu et al. 2023). In July 2022, root rot was detected in the seedling cultivation base of C. argyrophylla in Daozhen County, Guizhou Province, China (28.89 °N, 107.6 °E). The incidence of the disease was 30% (n = 100); the susceptible plants wilted, leaves withered, and roots showed brown-to-black lesions and rot. Ten root tissues were randomly collected from the edges of the lesions of six symptomatic susceptible plants. The tissues were sterilized with 75% alcohol for 30 seconds, followed by 2-minute immersion in 3% sodium hypochlorite. After washing with sterile water, the tissues were incubated on potato dextrose agar (PDA; BoWei, Shanghai) at 28 ℃ for five days. Four single-spore cultures were obtained using a single-spore isolation method (Gong et al., 2010). Single-spore cultures grew rapidly on PDA. After five days of incubation, the colonies were white and pink, indicating a large amount of aerial mycelia. Microconidia were ovate or ellipsoid, measuring 5.0-10.0 × 1.5-3.0 μm (n = 50); Macroconidia were falcate, slightly curved or straight, measuring 19.5-28.5 × 2.0-6.0 μm (n = 50). Based on morphological features, the pathogen was considered to be Fusarium spp. (Leslie and Summerell 2006). Three representative strains, GF5, GF6, and GF7, were selected for molecular identification, and genomic DNA was extracted to confirm morphological diagnosis. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) (White et al. 1990) was amplified using primers ITS1/ITS4, and the β-tubulin gene (Varga et al. 2011) was amplified using primers Bt2a/Bt2b. The ITS and β-tubulin sequences were aligned with GenBank, and amplification of the genes from the three isolates was consistent. The ITS (OP482273) and β-tubulin (OR825353) sequences of GF5 were stored in GenBank, and their homology with Fusarium oxysporum HC131(accession numbers MW600442 and MW670451) was 99 to 100%. Maximum likelihood analysis using MEGA 11.0 showed that isolate GF5 belongs to F. oxysporum. The reconstructed phylogenetic tree confirmed the phylogenetic position of the isolate GF5. The pathogenicity test was carried out using GF5 and GF6 isolates. The taproots of ten 3-year-old C. argyrophylla plants were washed, and then the roots were immersed in a 2 × 106/mL conidial suspension for one hour. Ten plants with sterile water were used as controls. After planting in pots (30 × 25 cm) with sterilized forest soil, the plants were cultured in a greenhouse (25 ℃ and 12-hour photoperiod). Thirty days after inoculation, all plants inoculated with the isolated pathogen showed wilting symptoms, and the roots showed typical root rot symptoms, whereas the control group showed no symptoms. The pathogens re-isolated from all inoculated plants were morphologically identical and had ITS sequences identical to F. oxysporum, validating Koch's hypothesis. The pathogenicity test was repeated twice and similar results were obtained. Although this fungus has been previously reported to cause root diseases in hosts, such as Musa nana Lour. and Pinus massoniana Lamb. (He et al. 2010; Luo et al. 2020), to our knowledge, this is the first report of F. oxysporum causing root rot in C. argyrophylla. These findings provide a basis for the development of management strategies for C. argyrophylla infection.

Background: Fibroblast-derived exosomes can regulate the electrical remodeling of cardiomyocytes, and the intermediate-conductance calcium-activated potassium channel (KCa3.1) is important in atrial electrical remodeling. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the regulation of cardiac electrophysiology by exosomes linked to KCa3.1., Methods: Atrial myocytes (AMs) and atrial fibroblasts were isolated from Sprague-Dawley suckling rats and cultured individually. The cellular atrial fibrillation (AF) model was established via electrical stimulation (1.0 v/cm, 10 Hz), and fibroblast-derived exosomes were isolated via ultracentrifugation. Exosomes were co-cultured with AMs to investigate their influences on KCa3.1 and the underlying mechanisms. Nanoparticle tracking analysis and transmission electron microscopy were used to measure exosome particle sizes and concentrations. Whole-cell patch clamp was applied to record the current density of KCa3.1 and action potential duration (APD). The expression of miR-21-5p was detected by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Western blotting or immunofluorescence was used to measure the expression of exosomal markers, Akt phosphorylation, and KCa3.1., Results: Rapid pacing promoted the secretion of exosomes from atrial fibroblasts and miR-21-5p expression in atrial fibroblasts and exosomes. KCa3.1 protein expression and current density significantly increased, and APD50 and APD90 were sharply shortened after rapid pacing in AMs. TRAM-34 (KCa3.1 blocker) extended APD and reduced susceptibility to AF. KCa3.1 and P-AKT expressions were amplified after co-culturing AMs with exosomes secreted by atrial fibroblasts. In contrast, the increase in KCa3.1 expression was reversed after the cells were co-cultured with exosomes secreted by atrial fibroblasts that were transfected with miR-21-5p inhibitors or after the use of LY294002, a PI3K/Akt pathway inhibitor., Conclusions: Rapid pacing promoted the secretion of exosomes from fibroblasts, and miR-21-5p was upregulated in exosomes. Blister beetles of Epicauta impressicornis have attracted attention because they contain a large amount of cantharidin (CTD). To date, however, the synthesis and transfer of CTD in adults of E. impressicornis are largely unknown. Here, we showed that the larvae E. impressicornis are capable of synthesizing CTD and they consume CTD during pupation. Before sexual maturity, both male and female adults synthesized a small amount of CTD, while after sexual maturity, males produced larger amounts of CTD, but females did not. The newly synthesized CTD in males first appeared in the hemolymph and then accumulated in the reproductive system. During the mating, the males transferred CTD to the reproductive system of females. In addition, a farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FPPS) gene was identified in male E. impressicornis . RNA-seq analysis, quantitative RT-PCR, and RNA interference analyses were conducted to investigate expression patterns and the functional roles of E. impressicornis FPPS ( EiFPPS ). Our results indicate that EiFPPS is highly expressed in the fat body of males. Moreover, the knock-down of EiFPPS led to a significant decrease in CTD synthesis. The current study indicates that EiFPPS is expressed in the fat body to regulate CTD synthesis in male E. impressicornis blister beetles.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Codonopsis pilosula (C. pilosula), also called "Dangshen" in Chinese, is derived from the roots of Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf. (C. pilosula), Codonopsis pilosula var. Modesta (Nannf.) L.D.Shen (C. pilosula var. modesta) or Codonopsis pilosula subsp. Tangshen (Oliv.) D.Y.Hong (C. pilosula subsp. tangshen), is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine. It has been regularly used for anti-aging, strengthening the spleen and tonifying the lungs, regulating blood sugar, lowering blood pressure, strengthening the body's immune system, etc. However, the mechanism, by which, C. pilosula exerts its therapeutic effects on brain aging remains unclear., Aim of the Study: This study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of the protective effects of C. pilosula water extract (CPWE) on the hippocampal tissue of D-galactose-induced aging mice., Materials and Methods: In this research, plant taxonomy has been confirmed in the "The Plant List" database (www.theplantlist.org). First, an aging mouse model was established through the intraperitoneal injections of D-galactose solution, and low-, medium-, and high-dose CPWE were administered to mice by gavage for 42 days. Then, the learning and memory abilities of the mice were examined using the Morris water maze tests and step-down test. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed to visualize histopathological damage in the hippocampus. A transmission electron microscope was used to observe the ultrastructure of hippocampal neurons. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to examine the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), the marker protein of astrocyte activation, and autophagy-related proteins, including microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 (LC3) and sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1)/p62, in the hippocampal tissues of mice. Moreover, targeted metabolomic analysis was performed to assess the changes in polar metabolites and short-chain fatty acids in the hippocampus., Results: First, CPWE alleviated cognitive impairment and ameliorated hippocampal tissue damage in aging mice. Furthermore, CPWE markedly alleviated mitochondrial damage, restored the number of autophagosomes, and activated autophagy in the hippocampal tissue of aging mice by increasing the expression of LC3 protein and reducing the expression of p62 protein. Meanwhile, the expression levels of the brain injury marker protein GFAP decreased. Moreover, quantitative targeted metabolomic analysis revealed that CPWE intervention reversed the abnormal levels of L-asparagine, L-glutamic acid, L-glutamine, serotonin hydrochloride, succinic acid, and acetic acid in the hippocampal tissue of aging mice. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the total microbiome and transcriptionally active microbiome communities in the roots and root nodules of Prosopis cineraria , an important leguminous tree in arid regions of many Asian countries. Mature P. cineraria trees growing in the desert did not exhibit any detected root nodules. However, we observed root nodules on the roots of P. cineraria growing on a desert farm and on young plants growing in a growth chamber, when inoculated with rhizosphere soil, including with rhizosphere soil from near desert tree roots that had no nodules. Compared to nearby soil, non-nodulated roots were enriched with Actinobacteria (e.g., Actinophytocola sp.), whereas root nodules sampled from the desert farm and growth chamber had abundant Alphaproteobacteria (e.g., Ensifer sp.). These nodules yielded many microbes in addition to such nitrogen-fixing bacteria as Ensifer and Sinorhizobium species. Significant differences exist in the composition and abundance of microbial isolates between the nodule surface and the nodule endosphere. Shotgun metagenome analysis of nodule endospheres revealed that the root nodules comprised over 90% bacterial DNA, whereas metatranscriptome analysis showed that the plant produces vastly more transcripts than the microbes in these nodules. Control inoculations demonstrated that four out of six Rhizobium, Agrobacterium, or Ensifer isolates purified from P. cineraria nodules produced nodules in the roots of P. cineraria seedlings under greenhouse conditions. The best nodulation was achieved when seedlings were inoculated with a mixture of those bacterial strains. Though root nodulation could be achieved under water stress conditions, nodule number and nodule biomass increased with copious water availability. .IMPORTANCEMicrobial communities were investigated in roots and root nodules of Prosopis cineraria , a leguminous tree species in arid Asian regions that is responsible for exceptionally important contributions to soil fertility in these dramatically dry locations. Soil removed from regions near nodule-free roots on these mature plants contained an abundance of bacteria with the genetic ability to generate nodules and fix nitrogen but did not normally nodulate in their native rhizosphere environment, suggesting a very different co-evolved relationship than that observed for herbaceous legumes. The relative over-expression of the low-gene-density plant DNA compared to the bacterial DNA in the nodules was also unexpected, indicating a very powerful induction of host genetic contributions within the nodule. The fabrication of periodic macroporous (PM) in Nb 2 O 5 via morphological control is crucial for improving the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution efficiency. In this study, Nb 2 O 5 with PM is synthesized using a straightforward colloidal crystal templating approach. This material features an open, interconnected macroporous architecture with nanoscale walls, high crystallinity, and substantial porosity. Extensive characterization reveals that this hierarchically structured Nb 2 O 5 possesses abundant surface active sites and is capable of capturing light effectively, facilitating rapid mass transfer and diffusion of reactants and markedly suppressing the recombination of photoexcited charge carriers. Macroporous Nb 2 O 5 exhibits superior water-splitting hydrogen evolution performance compared with its bulk and commercial counterparts, achieving a hydrogen production rate of 405 µmol g -1 h -1 , surpassing that of bulk Nb 2 O 5 (B-Nb 2 O 5 ) and commercial Nb 2 O 5 (C-Nb 2 O 5 ) by factors of 5 and 33, respectively. Background: Solely relying on the tibial ankle surface (TAS) angle for determining the mechanical ankle axis might be insufficient. We introduce a novel method to determine the distance from the center of the talus to the tibial axis (TTD). This study aimed to investigate the association between clinical outcomes and radiological changes before and after supramalleolar osteotomy (SMO), including TAS angle, talar tilt (TT) angle, tibiotalar surface (TTS) angle and TTD., Methods: Seventy patients who received SMO were enrolled. Radiological changes were measured using weight-bearing anteroposterior imaging. The percentage of talar center displacement (TTDP) was calculated as the difference between postoperative and preoperative TTD, divided by talar width (TW). Clinical assessments were performed using the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot (AOFAS) scale. Differences in the aforementioned indicators before and after the operation were analyzed. We defined ΔAOFAS, ΔTAS, ΔTT and ΔTTS as the difference between postoperative and preoperative values., Results: ΔTTS correlated with ΔAOFAS (r = 0.40, p = 0.008), as did TTDP (r = 0.32, p = 0.035). No correlation was observed between ΔAOFAS and ΔTAS. In the comparison between groups, patients with a TTDP greater than 26.19 exhibited a significantly greater ΔAOFAS. The high intraclass correlation coefficient indicated good reliability of the novel method., Conclusion: Solely relying on the TAS angle for tibial correction was insufficient. We found TTD as a novel method to evaluate mechanical ankle joint axis. The co-occurrence of microplastics (MPs) with potentially toxic metals in the environment stresses the need to address their physicochemical interactions and the potential ecological and human health implications. Here, we investigated the reaction of aqueous U with agricultural soil and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) through the integration of batch experiments, microscopy, and spectroscopy. The aqueous initial concentration of U (100 μM) decreased between 98.6 and 99.2 % at pH 5 and between 86.2 and 98.9 % at pH 7.5 following the first half hour of reaction with 10 g of soil. In similar experimental conditions but with added HDPE, aqueous U decreased between 98.6 and 99.7 % at pH 5 and between 76.1 and 95.2 % at pH 7.5, suggesting that HDPE modified the accumulation of U in soil as a function of pH. Uranium-bearing precipitates on the cracked surface of HDPE were identified by SEM/EDS after two weeks of agitation in water at both pH 5 and 7.5. Accumulation of U on the near-surface region of reacted HDPE was confirmed by XPS. Our findings suggest that the precipitation of U was facilitated by the weathering of the surface of HDPE. Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) with FGFR alterations is relatively rare, and its identification is important in the era of targeted therapy. We collected a large series of FGFR-altered cases in the Chinese population and characterized their clinicopathological and genetic features. Among the 18 FGFR-altered cases out of 260 iCCAs, 10 were males and 8 were females, ranging in age from 35 to 74 years (mean, 57.3 years; median, 58 years). Pathologically, they include 9 cases of large duct (LD, 50 %) and small duct (SD, 50 %) types each. All of them (100 %, 18/18) showed microsatellite stable (MSS) and low tumor mutation burden (TMB). Genetically, FGFR alterations involved FGFR1 (20 %), FGFR2 (70 %), and FGFR3 (10 %), with FGFR2 rearrangement accounting for the most (11/18). The most frequently altered genes/biological processes were development/proliferation-related pathways (44 %), chromatin organization (20 %), and tumor suppressors (32 %). Our study further revealed the clinicopathological and genetic features of FGFR-altered iCCA and demonstrated that its occurrence may show regional or ethnic variability and is less common in the Chinese population. Macrohaplotype combines multiple types of phased DNA variants, increasing forensic discrimination power. High-quality long-sequencing reads, for example, PacBio HiFi reads, provide data to detect macrohaplotypes in multiploidy and DNA mixtures. However, the bioinformatics tools for detecting macrohaplotypes are lacking. In this study, we developed a bioinformatics software, MacroHapCaller, in which targeted loci (i.e., short TRs [STRs], single nucleotide polymorphisms, and insertion and deletions) are genotyped and combined with novel algorithms to call macrohaplotypes from long reads. MacroHapCaller uses physical phasing (i.e., read-backed phasing) to identify macrohaplotypes, and thus it can detect multi-allelic macrohaplotypes for a given sample. MacroHapCaller was validated with data generated from our designed targeted PacBio HiFi sequencing pipeline, which sequenced ∼8-kb amplicon regions harboring 20 core forensic STR loci in human benchmark samples HG002 and HG003. MacroHapCaller also was validated in whole-genome long-read sequencing data. Robust and accurate genotyping and phased macrohaplotypes were obtained with MacroHapCaller compared with the known ground truth. MacroHapCaller achieved a higher or consistent genotyping accuracy and faster speed than existing tools HipSTR and DeepVar. The introduction of rotational freedom by twist angles in twisted bilayer (TB) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) can tailor the inherent properties of the TMDCs, which provides a promising platform to investigate the exotic physical properties. However, direct synthesis of high-quality TB-TMDCs with full twist angles is significantly challenging due to the substantial energy barriers during crystal growth. Here, a modified chemical vapor deposition strategy is proposed to synthesize TB-WS 2 with a wide twist angle range from 0° to 120°. Utilizing a tilted SiO 2 /Si substrate, a gas flow disturbance is generated in the furnace tube to create a heterogeneous concentration gradient of the metal precursor, which provides an extra driving force for the growth of TB-WS 2 . The Raman and photoluminescence results confirm a weak interlayer coupling of the TB-WS 2 . High-quality periodic Moiré patterns are observed in the scanning transmission electron microscopy images. Moreover, owing to the strong correlation between the nonlinear optical response and the twisted crystal structure, tunable second harmonic generation behaviors are realized in the TB-WS 2 . Engineering targeted and reliable charge transfer pathways in multiphase photocatalysts remains a challenge. Herein, we conceptualize the Cd@CdS-ZnO/reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/ZnS heterostructures coupled with reliable carrier migration channels and visible-light response antennas by building rGO-integrated electrochemical nanoreactors and an ion-exchange process. In this ternary catalyst, the Cd clusters and rGO perform as charge relays to boost carrier transport via the Z-scheme route and accelerate photogenerated carriers to react with surface-adsorbed substances. Meanwhile, thanks to CdS, the heterostructures have photocatalytic properties under visible light illumination and can also inhibit self-corrosion by shielding Cd clusters to avoid disrupting charge transfer channels. Therefore, the special heterostructure demonstrates fascinating photocatalytic hydrogen production activity without the intervention of cocatalysts. This work provides a feasible protocol for improving the interfaces between metals and semiconductors to achieve efficient photocatalytic hydrogen generation.

Background : Three subphenotypes were identified for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC) after frontline transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). This study aimed to develop an individual smHAP-Ⅱ nomogram for uHCC patients after TACE. Methods : Between January 2007 to December 2016, 1517 uHCC patients undergoing TACE were included from four hospitals in China (derivation cohort: 597 cases; validation cohort: 920 cases). Multivariable Cox proportion regression analysis was used to develop a nomogram, incorporating postoperative subphenotypes (Phenotype 1, 2, 3) and HAP score (Score 0 to 4). The model was validated by a 1000-time bootstrap resampling procedure. The performance of the model was compared with existing ones by Harrell's C-index and Area Under Curve (AUC). Results: Postoperative subphenotypes modified the HAP score (smHAP-Ⅱ nomogram) was developed and validated, with the Harrell's C-index of the nomogram was 0.679 (SD: 0.029) for the derivation cohort and 0.727(SD:0.029) for the external cohort. The area under curves of the nomogram for 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS were 0.750, 0.710, and 0.732 for the derivation cohort, respectively (0.789, 0.762, and 0.715 for the external cohort). In the calibration curves stratified by treatment after TACE, the lines for re-TACE and stop-TACE cross at 0.23, indicating that patients with a 3-year predicted survival >23% would not benefit from TACE. Conclusions : The addition of postoperative subphenotypes significantly improved the prognostic performance. The quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulator is a vital material for the investigation of emerging topological quantum effects, but its extremely low working temperature limits experiments. Apart from the temperature challenge, effective regulation of the topological state of QAH insulators is another crucial concern. Here, by first-principles calculations, we find a family of stable two-dimensional materials TlTiX (X = Si, Ge) are large-gap QAH insulators. Their extremely robust ferromagnetic (FM) ground states are determined by both the direct- and super-exchange FM coupling. In the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC), there exist a spin-polarized crossing point located at each K and K ' points, respectively. The SOC effect results in the spontaneous breaking of C 2 symmetry and introduces a mass term, giving rise to a QAH state with sizable band gap. The tiny magnetocrystalline anisotropic energy (MAE) implies that an external magnetic field can be easily used to align magnetization deviating from z direction to the x - y plane, thereby leading to a transformation of the electronic state from the QAH state to the Weyl half semimetals state, which indicate monolayers TlTiX (X = Si, Ge) exhibit a giant magneto topological band effect. Finally, we examined the impact of stress on the band gap and MAE, which underlies the reasons for the giant magneto topological band effect attributed to the crystal field. The microneedle (MN) delivery system presents an attractive administration route for patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the passive drug delivery mode and low drug loading of MNs often result in unsatisfactory therapeutic efficiency. To address these dilemmas, we developed dual engine-drive bionic MNs for robust AD treatment. Specifically, free rivastigmine (RVT) and RVT particles were co-loaded within the MNs to construct the valve and chambers of the guava, respectively, which can serve as an active engine to promote drug permeation by generating capillary force. K 2 CO 3 and citric acid were introduced as a pneumatic engine into the MNs to promote the permeation of free RVT into deeper skin layers for early intervention in AD. Further, the RVT particles served as a drug depot to provide continuous drug release for prolonged AD treatment. Compared with free RVT-loaded MNs, the dual engine-driven bionic MNs showed an increase in drug loading, cumulative transdermal permeability, and normalized bioavailability of approximately 40%, 22%, and 49%, respectively. Pharmacodynamic studies further confirmed that the dual engine-driven bionic MNs were most effective in restoring memory and recognition functions in mice with short-term memory dysfunction. Background : There are few effective prediction models for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (IM-HCC) patients treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) to predict overall survival (OS) is available. The learning survival neural network (DeepSurv) was developed to showed a better performance than cox proportional hazards model in prediction of OS. This study aimed to develop a deep learning-based prediction model to predict individual OS. Methods : This multicenter, retrospective, cohort study examined data from the electronic medical record system of four hospitals in China between January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2016. Patients were divided into a training set(n=1075) and a test set(n=269) at a ratio of 8:2 to develop a deep learning-based algorithm (deepHAP IV). The deepHAP IV model was externally validated on an independent cohort(n=414) from the other three centers. The concordance index, the area under the receiver operator characteristic curves, and the calibration curve were used to assess the performance of the models. Results : The deepHAP IV model had a c-index of 0.74, whereas AUROC for predicting survival outcomes of 1-, 3-, and 5-year reached 0.80, 0.76, and 0.74 in the training set. Calibration graphs showed good consistency between the actual and predicted OS in the training set and the validation cohort. Compared to the other five Cox proportional-hazards models, the model this study conducted had a better performance. Patients were finally classified into three groups by X-tile plots with predicted 3-year OS rate (low: ≤ 0.11; middle: > 0.11 and ≤ 0.35; high: >0.35). Three-dimensional rotation of cells is imperative in a variety of applications such as biology, medicine, and chemistry. We report for the first time a versatile approach for executing controllable 3D rotation of cells or particles at a bipolar electrode (BPE) array using a rotating electric field. The versatility of this method is demonstrated by 3D rotating various cells including yeast cells and K562 cells and the cells can be rotated to a desired orientation and immobilized for further operations. Our results demonstrate how electrorotation torque, induced charge electroosmosis (ICEO) flow and dielectrophoresis can be exerted on certain cells for modulating the rotation axis, speed, and direction. ICEO-based out-of-plane rotation is capable of rotating various cells in a vertical plane regardless of their shape and size. It can realize cell orientation by rotating cells toward a specific angle and enable cell rotation by steadily rotating multiple cells at a controllable speed. The rotation spectrum for in-plane rotation is further used to extract the cellular dielectric properties. This work offers a flexible method for controllable, contactless and precise rotation of different cells or particles, offering a rapid, high-throughput, and nondestructive rotation method for cell analysis and drug discovery.

Existing optical information hiding algorithms for multiple images require generating hidden keys for embedded images, resulting in the transmission of numerous keys. This challenge undermines the usage of these algorithms in low-quality networks. To address this issue and enhance transmission efficiency, we present a multi-image optical information hiding algorithm based on Fourier transformation principles, which is employed to generate hidden frequency maps and carrier frequency maps. Specific low-frequency information zones are extracted within these hidden frequency maps. A chaotic system integrates a phase mask, modulated with the low-frequency regions, positioned in the carrier frequency map's high-frequency sector. The final stego image is obtained by subjecting the carrier frequency map to inverse Fourier transformation. Experimental analysis shows that concealing three images takes only 0.0089 s, with extraction requiring 0.0658 s. Post-extraction PSNR values for hidden images exceed 32 dB. Robustness and anti-attack experiments were done to prove the security of this algorithm. The compared experiments between the proposed method and other state-of-the-art algorithms affirm the algorithm's attributes of simplicity, ease of implementation, robust security, and high efficiency. Importantly, the restoration process eliminates the necessity of transmitting hidden keys, reducing network burdens and enhancing both concealment and extraction efficiencies significantly.

Achieving water splitting to produce green H 2 , using the noble-metal-free MoS 2 , has attracted huge interest from researchers. However, tuning the number of MoS 2 layers precisely while obtaining small lateral sizes to surge the H 2 -evolution rate is a tremendous challenge. Here, a bottom-up strategy is designed for the in situ growth of ultrasmall lateral-sized MoS 2 with tunable layers on CdS nanorods (CN) by controlling the decomposition temperature and concentration of substrate seed (NH 4 ) 2 MoS 4 . Here, the bilayer MoS 2 and CN coupling (2L-MoS 2 /CN) exhibits the optimum photocatalytic activity. Compared to thicker MoS 2 , the 2L-MoS 2 has sufficient reduction capacity to drive photocatalytic H 2 evolution and the ultrasmall lateral size provides more active sites. Meanwhile, the indirect bandgap, in contrast to the direct bandgap of the monolayer MoS 2 , suppresses the carrier recombination transferred to 2L-MoS 2 . Under the synergistic effect of both, 2L-MoS 2 /CN has fast surface chemical reactions, resulting in the photocatalytic H 2 -evolution rate of up to 41.86 mmol g -1 h -1 . The emergence of multidrug resistance (MDR) is the leading cause of mortality in patients with breast cancer. Overexpressed P-glycoprotein (P-gp) that can pump out chemotherapeutics from multidrug-resistant cancer cells is the main cause of chemotherapy failure. P-gp inhibitors are hence increasingly used to sensitize chemotherapy to breast cancer with MDR by reducing the efflux of drugs. However, representative P-gp inhibitors usually have severe side effects and the effect of their release behavior on chemotherapy are neglected in current studies. We constructed a nano-in-thermogel delivery system with the sequential release of ginsenoside Rh2 (GRh2) and a chemotherapeutic drug in the tumor microenvironment as a drug compounding "reservoir" to combat MDR in breast cancer. Briefly, paclitaxel (PTX) and GRh2 were encapsulated in solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) and dispersed in a poloxamer-based thermogel (SLNs-Gel). GRh2 was used as an innovative and safe P-gp inhibitor to lower P-gp expression and cellular adenosine triphosphate context, thereby sensitizing PTX-resistant breast cancer cells (MCF-7/PTX) to PTX. Pharmacodynamic and in vivo safety studies confirmed that intratumoral injection of SLNs-Gel significantly suppressed the proliferation of PTX-resistant breast cancer and alleviated the PTX-induced hematotoxicity. Background: Previous studies have shown that the alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) response has been a key tumour marker in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but its definition remains controversial. Recently, a new study has explored and defined the AFP serological response and used it to explain the subclass of intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (IM-HCC) with "sharp-falling" AFP change after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). It may be a new and simple tool for assessing the prognosis of patients. This study aims to explore a simplified AFP trajectory and its impact on overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) for IM-HCC after hepatectomy., Patients and Methods: Between January 2007 and May 2012, data from the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center was examined in this longitudinal, retrospective cohort study. A generalized additive model was applied to distinguish potential AFP dynamic trajectories. The Kaplan-Meier method was applied to analyze OS and DFS, and multivariate Cox models were used to calculate adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) and 95% CIs for overall survival., Results: 144 patients who had IM-HCC with at least three AFP repeat measurements were included in the study. Three similar trajectories are displayed using the generalized additive model: low-stable (35.4%; n = 51), high-rising (36.1%; n = 52), and sharp-falling (28.5%; n = 41). Compared with the low-stable class, the aHRs for death were 2.84 (1.50, 5.41) and 0.59 (0.25, 1.40) for the high-rising and sharp-falling classes, adjusted by age and log AFP. Simplified AFP trajectory had higher relative importance than sex, intrahepatic tumor number, Child-Pugh class, and baseline AFP., Conclusion: The simplified AFP trajectory is a promising biomarker for IM-HCC patients undergoing hepatectomy. Tree species classification within shelterbelts is crucial for shelterbelt management. The large-scale satellite-based and low-altitude drone-based approaches serve as powerful tools for forest monitoring, especially in tree species classification. However, these methods face challenges in distinguishing individual tree species within complex backgrounds. Additionally, the mixed growth of trees within protective forest suffers from similar crown size among different tree species. The complex background of the shelterbelts negatively impacts the accuracy of tree species classification. The You Only Look Once (YOLO) algorithm is widely used in the field of agriculture and forestry, ie., plant and fruit identification, pest and disease detection, and tree species classification in forestry. We proposed a YOLOv7-Kmeans++&#95;CoordConv&#95;CBAM (YOLOv7-KCC) model for tree species classification based on drone RGB remote sensing images. Firstly, we constructed a dataset for tree species in shelterbelts and adopted data augmentation methods to mitigate overfitting due to limited training data. Secondly, the K-means++ algorithm was employed to cluster anchor boxes in the dataset. Furthermore, to enhance the YOLOv7 backbone network's Efficient Layer Aggregation Network (ELAN) module, we used Coordinate Convolution (CoordConv) replaced the ordinary 1×1 convolution. The Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) was integrated into the Path Aggregation Network (PANet) structure to facilitate multiscale feature extraction and fusion, allowing the network to better capture and utilize crucial feature information. Experimental results showed that the YOLOv7-KCC model achieves a mean average precision@0.5 of 98.91%, outperforming the Faster RCNN-VGG16, Faster RCNN-Resnet50, SSD, YOLOv4, and YOLOv7 models by 5.71%, 11.75%, 5.97%, 7.86%, and 3.69%, respectively. The GFlops and Parameter values of the YOLOv7-KCC model stand at 105.07G and 143.7MB, representing an almost 5.6% increase in F1 metrics compared to YOLOv7. Twisted bilayer (TB) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) beyond TB-graphene are considered an ideal platform for investigating condensed matter physics, due to the moiré superlattices-related peculiar band structures and distinct electronic properties. The growth of large-area and high-quality TB-TMDCs with wide twist angles would be significant for exploring twist angle-dependent physics and applications, but remains challenging to implement. Here, we propose a reconfiguring nucleation chemical vapor deposition (CVD) strategy for directly synthesizing TB-MoS 2 with twist angles from 0° to 120°. The twist angles-dependent Moiré periodicity can be clearly observed, and the interlayer coupling shows a strong relationship to the twist angles. Moreover, the yield of TB-MoS 2 in bilayer MoS 2 and density of TB-MoS 2 are significantly improved to 17.2% and 28.9 pieces/mm 2 by tailoring gas flow rate and molar ratio of NaCl to MoO 3 . Stress has been considered as a potential trigger for hair loss through the neuroendocrine-hair follicle (HF) axis. Neurotensin (NTS), a neuropeptide, is known to be dysregulated in the inflammatory-associated skin diseases. However, the precise role of NTS in stress-induced hair loss is unclear. To investigate the function and potential mechanisms of NTS in stress-induced hair growth inhibition, we initially detected the expression of neurotensin receptor (Ntsr) and NTS in the skin tissues of stressed mice by RNA-sequencing and ELISA. We found chronic restraint stress (CRS) significantly decreased the expression of both NTS and Ntsr in the skin tissues of mice. Intracutaneous injection of NTS effectively counteracted CRS-induced inhibition of hair growth in mice. Furthermore, NTS regulated a total of 1093 genes expression in human dermal papilla cells (HDPC), with 591 genes being up-regulated and 502 genes being down-regulated. GO analysis showed DNA replication, cell cycle, integral component of plasma membrane and angiogenesis-associated genes were significantly regulated by NTS. KEGG enrichment demonstrated that NTS also regulated genes related to the Hippo signalling pathway, axon guidance, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction and Wnt signalling pathway in HDPC. Adventitious roots (ARs), developing from non-root tissue, play an important role in some plants. Here, the molecular mechanism of AR differentiation in Lotus japonicus L. ( L. japonicus ) with the transformed chicken interferon alpha gene (ChIFNα) encoding cytokine was studied. ChIFNα transgenic plants (TP) were identified by GUS staining, PCR, RT-PCR, and ELISA. Up to 0.175 μg/kg rChIFNα was detected in TP2 lines. Expressing rChIFNα promotes AR development by producing longer roots than controls. We found that the effect was enhanced with the auxin precursor IBA treatment in TP. IAA contents, POD, and PPO activities associated with auxin regulation were higher than wild type (WT) in TP and exogenous ChIFNα treatment plants. Transcriptome analysis revealed 48 auxin-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (FDR < 0.05), which expression levels were verified by RT-qPCR analysis. GO enrichment analysis of DEGs also highlighted the auxin pathway. Further analysis found that ChIFNα significantly enhanced auxin synthesis and signaling mainly with up-regulated genes of ALDH, and GH3. Our study reveals that ChIFNα can promote plant AR development by mediating auxin regulation. The findings help explore the role of ChIFNα cytokines and expand animal gene sources for the molecular breeding of growth regulation of forage plants.

Despite the intensive research in room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) polymers, the synthesis of RTP polymers with well-defined macromolecular structures and multiple functions remains a challenge. Herein, reversible deactivation radical polymerization was demonstrated to offer a gradient copolymer (GCP) architecture with controlled heterogeneities, which combines hard segment and flexible segment. The GCPs would self-assemble into a multiphase nanostructure, featuring tunable stretchability, excellent RTP performance, and intrinsic healability without compromising light emission under stretching. The mechanical performance is tunable on demand with elongation at break ranging from 5.0% to 221.7% and Young's modulus ranging from 0.5 to 225.0 MPa.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a multifunctional molecule that is widely present in the nervous system and nonneuronal tissues. It plays pivotal roles in neurotransmission, regulation of secretion, cell differentiation, proliferation, and tumorigenesis. However, the exact mechanisms of GABA in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs) are unknown. We took advantage of RNA sequencing in this work and uncovered the potential gene expression profiles of the GABA-treated HNSCC cell line HN4-2. We found that the expression of CCND2 and BCL2L1 was significantly upregulated. Furthermore, GABA treatment inhibited the cell apoptosis induced by cisplatin and regulated the cell cycle after treatment with cisplatin in HN4-2 cells. Moreover, we also found that GABA could upregulate the expression of CCND2 and BCL2L1 after treatment with cisplatin. Background: Evidence suggests that lipoprotein subclass particles are critical markers of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Older women have increased CVD risk related to age. The purpose of this study was to determine whether low and moderate doses of exercise influence lipoprotein subclasses., Methods: Women (60-75 years) were randomized into groups for 16 weeks of moderate-intensity exercise training at a low or moderate dose (33.6 and 58.8 kJ/kg body weight weekly, respectively). Lipoprotein subclasses were determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy before and after the training., Results: The average weekly exercise duration was 109 and 164 min, for low- and moderate-dose groups, respectively. In the low-dose group, high-density lipoprotein particle (HDL-P) concentration decreased (Δ = -1.9 ± 3.1 µmol/L, mean ± SD, p = 0.002) and mean HDL-P size increased (Δ = 0.1 ± 0.3 nm, p = 0.028). In the moderate-dose group, mean HDL-P size (Δ = 0.1 ± 0.2 nm; p = 0.024) and low-density lipoprotein particle size increased (Δ = 0.4 ± 3.9 nm; p = 0.007). Baseline body mass index, peak oxygen consumption and age were associated with changes in a few lipoprotein subclasses., Conclusions: In this sample of inactive older women, moderate-intensity exercise training at a dose equivalent to or even lower than the minimally recommended level by public health agencies induced changes in lipoprotein subclasses in line with reduced CVD risk. However, higher doses are encouraged for greater health benefits.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was a major global health threat. As a chronic low-grade inflammatory disease, the prognosis of diabetes was associated with inflammation. The advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI) served as a comprehensive index to assess inflammation. This study aimed to estimate the association between ALI and all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and cancer mortality in T2DM patients., Methods: We extracted cohort data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 1999-2018 for analysis. The weighted Kaplan-Meier analysis and multivariate-adjusted Cox analysis were utilized to evaluate the relationship between ALI and all-cause, CVD, and cancer mortality in T2DM patients. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was employed to assess their non-linear relationship. Stratified analysis and interaction analysis were conducted to enhance the robustness of the results., Results: The study incorporated a total of 3,888 patients. An increase in ALI was associated with a reduced risk of all-cause and CVD mortality in T2DM patients, but not related to cancer mortality. There were J-shaped and L-shaped non-linear relationships between ALI and all-cause, CVD mortality in T2DM patients, respectively. The inflection points were 90.20 and 93.06, respectively. For values below the inflection point, every 10U increase in ALI, both all-cause and CVD mortality risk decreased by 9%. Beyond the inflection point, all-cause mortality rose by 3%, while CVD mortality remained unaffected. Gender-stratified RCS analysis indicated a linear negative relationship between CVD mortality and ALI in female T2DM patients, whereas the trend in males aligned with the overall population., Conclusion: Our research initially identified a significant correlation between increased ALI levels with decreased all-cause and CVD mortality in T2DM patients. There were J-shaped and L-shaped non-linear relationships between ALI and all-cause, CVD mortality in T2DM patients, respectively. For female patients, there was a linear negative relation between CVD mortality and ALI, whereas the trend in males aligned with the overall population. Camellia oleifera Abel. is one of the native and important natural edible oil species in China. The cultivation of C. oleifera has vigorously increased in Guizhou Province in recent years. From June to August 2022, a severe leaf spot blight was observed on C. oleifera in Longli Plantation, with an incidence of 53.5% (n=200), which caused severe defoliation, negatively affected plant growth, and led to significant economic losses. Pale yellow and sub-circular leaf spots of 2-5 mm in diameter first appeared in the margin. The center of the spots then turned grey, and the edges turned brown. The symptomatic leaves gradually developed symptoms of blight with some brown acervular conidiomata, died, and fell off, with many deep black spots on the leaves (Fig. 1A-B). The fungal isolates GZU-Y2 and GZU-Y3 were obtained from the infected leaves of five-year-old symptomatic C. oleifera trees using the tissue isolation method, and a voucher specimen was deposited in the Forest Protection Laboratory, Guizhou University. Cultures grown on potato dextrose agar medium (PDA) were incubated at 28℃, 16L/8D. A round cream-like colony was formed on PDA, with a white surface, while the back gradually turned brown (Fig. 1C-E). The aerial hypha grew vigorously with an initial milky white color before turning grayish white. At 10 days after incubation, the pycnidia were dark brown to black and spherical, with a diameter of 563.3 μm (500 to 700) (n=20). The alpha conidia were unicellular, hyaline, aseptate, oval or fusiform and measured 6.1 μm (4.1 to 8.0) × 2.6 μm (1.9 to 3.6) (n=50). However, no beta conidia were observed (Fig. 1I). For further identification, total DNA from the pure culture was extracted using a DNA extraction kit (Sangon, Shanghai, China), and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF-1α), and beta-tubulin (TUB2) were amplified by PCR using the primers ITS1/ITS4 (White et al., 1990), EF1-728F/EF1-986R (Carbone and Kohn, 1999) and Bt2a/Bt2b (Glass and Donaldson, 1995), respectively, and sequenced for a BLASTn analysis and phylogenetic tree construction. The sequences of ITS, TEF-1α and TUB2 were deposited in GenBank as accession numbers OQ168242 (99.25%), OQ689451 (99.71%) and OQ689453 (100.00%) for GZU-Y2 and OQ674554 (99.25%), OQ689452 (99.71%) and OQ689454 (100.00%) for GZU-Y3, respectively. A phylogenetic tree (Fig. 2) was constructed with the software MEGA X using the Neighbor-Joining algorithm (Felsenstein, 1985). Based on its morphological and molecular characteristics, the pathogen was identified as Diaporthe mahothocarpus, one of the synonyms of D. eres and the teleomorph of Phomopsis mahothocarpi (Gao et al., 2014 and 2015; Chaisiri et al., 2021). A pathogenicity test was conducted by spraying spore suspensions (2 × 107 spores/mL) of isolate GZU-Y2 on the leaves of 20 pots of annual C. oleifera seedlings in vivo. The same number of control seedings were sprayed with sterile water. The seedlings were placed at a constant room temperature of 28°C, with the inoculation points wrapped in Parafilm for 5 d to retain moisture. After 10 d, typical symptoms appeared on the inoculated leaves (Fig. 1F-H), and the re-isolated fungal culture was identical in morphology and ITS sequence to that originally obtained, fulfilling Koch's postulates. To our knowledge, this is the first report of D. mahothocarpus causing leaf spot blight of C. oleifera in China. In our future work, we tend to study the green prevention and control of this disease.

Cerasus subhirtella (Miq.) Sok. is a widely used ornamental tree in urban areas around China and has a high ornamental value. From 2018 to 2020, a root rot disease was observed in C. subhirtella in Meitan County, Weng'an County, and Guiyang city of Guizhou, China (106.71 E, 26.57 N). Diseased C. subhirtella trees exhibited wilting with leaf chlorosis accompanied by brown to black root discoloration. In an area of 100 ha in total, with disease incidence ranging from 60 to 80%. Six symptomatic plants with root rot were randomly collected from three locations where disease symptoms were observed for pathogen isolation. Fifty fragments of diseased roots (5×5mm) were disinfected in 3% sodium hypochlorite for 30 s and 75% alcohol for 60 s, rinsed three times in sterile distilled water, plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA; BoWei, Shanghai), and incubated at 28 °C in the dark for 7 days. Eighteen isolates were purified by single spore culturing. Typical Fusarium spp. colonies were obtained from all root samples. On PDA, the colonies showed white and the hyphae were dense, while the colony of isolate YH15 showed pale yellow on the back, radial growth and produced chlamydospores. The macrospores (YH15) were straight to subarcuate, measured 15.3 to 25.1 × 2.5 to 6.2 μm (n=50). The microconidia (YH26) were ellipsoid to ovoid, measured 8.6 to 12.7 × 1.6 to 5.1 μm (n=50). These morphological characteristics were consistent with Fusarium spp., as described recently in Vitullo et al. (2014). To confirm the morphological diagnosis, genomic DNA from the isolates was extracted. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) (White et al, 1990) region of rDNA and a β-tubulin (Varga et al, 2011) gene fragment were amplified with the primers ITS1/ITS4 and Bt2a/Bt2b, respectively, and were subsequently sequenced. Maximum likelihood analysis was carried out using MEGA 11.0. BLAST analysis revealed that the ITS and β-tubulin sequences of isolate YH15 were 100% homologous with F. oxysporum, and the isolate YH26 had a 99.69~100% homology with F. solani. Sequences of isolate YH15 and YH26 were deposited in GenBank (ITS: OQ363005 and OQ363049; β-tubulin: OQ398187 and OQ398180). The isolate YH15 was thus identified as F. oxysporum by the morphological characteristics and sequences analysis, and the isolate YH26 was identified as F. solani. A reconstructed phylogenetic tree also confirmed their phylogenetic position. The healthy 2-year-old C. subhirtella plants grown in autoclaved acid yellow soil were used for the pathogenicity tests. Then, 50 mL of conidial suspension (2.0×105 conidia/mL, in medium) of 7-day-old isolates YH15 and YH26 were gently applied to the soil in each of the 10 pots as the treatment. A sterilized fungal culture matrix (PDB; BoWei, Shanghai) was applied to each of 10 pots as a control. All pots (30 cm high, 25 cm upper diameter, 15 cm base diameter) were placed in a greenhouse (25 °C, 12 h photoperiod). After 30 days of inoculation, all plants inoculated with the isolates showed wilting symptoms, and the roots showed light-brown to dark-brown lesions. No symptoms were observed in the controls. The pathogen was reisolated from all symptomatic roots and identified as F. oxysporum and F. solani as described above. The pathogenicity test was repeated twice with similar results. Although this fungus was previously reported to cause root disease in many hosts (Li et al., 2020; Gibert et al., 2022), this is the first report of F. oxysporum and F. solani causing root rot in C. subhirtella in China.

Multifunctional electronic skins (e-skins) that can sense various stimuli have demonstrated increasing potential in many fields. However, most e-skins are human-oriented that cannot work in hash environments such as high temperature, underwater, and corrosive chemicals, impairing their applications, especially in human-machine interfaces, intelligent machines, robotics, and so on. Inspired by the crack-shaped sensory organs of spiders, an environmentally robust and ultrasensitive multifunctional e-skin is developed. By developing a polyimide-based metal crack-localization strategy, the device has excellent environment adaptability since polyimide has high thermal stability and chemical durability. The localized cracked part serves as an ultrasensitive strain sensing unit, while the non-cracked serpentine part is solely responsible for temperature. Since the two units are made of the same material and process, the signals are decoupled easily. With the development of urban industrialization, the increasing ozone concentration (O 3 ) at ground level stresses on the survival of plants. Plants have to adapt to ozone stress. DNA methylation is crucial for a rapid response to abiotic stress in plants. Little information is known regarding the epigenetic response of DNA methylation of plants to O 3 stress. This study is designed to explore the epigenetic mechanism and identify a possible core modification of DNA methylation or genes in the plant, in response to O 3 stress. We investigated the agronomic traits and genome-wide DNA methylation variations of the Japonica rice cultivar Nipponbare in response to O 3 stress at three high concentrations (80, 160, and 200 nmol·mol -1 ), simulated using open-top chambers (OTC). The flag leaf length, panicle length, and hundred-grain weight of rice showed beneficial effects at 80 nmol·mol -1 O 3 and an inhibitory effect at both 160 and 200 nmol·mol -1 O 3. The methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism results showed that the O 3 -induced genome-wide methylation alterations account for 14.72-15.18% at three different concentrations. Our results demonstrated that methylation and demethylation alteration sites were activated throughout the O 3 stress, mainly at CNG sites. By recovering and sequencing bands with methylation alteration, ten stress-related differentially amplified sequences, widely present on different chromosomes, were obtained. Our findings show that DNA methylation may be an active and rapid epigenetic response to ozone stress. These results can provide us with a theoretical basis and a reference to look for more hereditary information about the molecular mechanism of plant resistance to O 3 pollution.
