Background Statement: Studies show that there is a relationship between theory of mind and story comprehension skills. However, it is also seen that there is a need for correlational studies that examine story comprehension skills according to theory of mind sub-skills., Aims: This study aimed to examine the relationship between preschool children's theory of mind and story comprehension skills. In addition, it was investigated whether there were differences in story comprehension and theory of mind scores of children according to the gender variable., Methods: The study group consisted of 140 children (71 girls, 69 boys), from four kindergartens, in Rafha, Saudi Arabia, during the fall semester of the 2024 academic year. The study group was selected using the convenience sampling method, a nonrandom sampling method., Results: Significant differences were found in favor of girls in the story comprehension scores and Theory of Mind Skills of the children included in the study., Conclusion: According to the results of the research, there is a positive moderate relationship between story comprehension scores and theory of mind scale scores.

Sexually abused children (SAC) often experience acute and chronic adverse psychological and physiological effects later in life. This study aims to evaluate psychiatric diagnoses, Executive Functions (EF) and Theory of Mind (ToM) skills deficiencies in sexually abused female adolescents and examine the relation of these deficiencies with externalizing and internalizing behavioral problems. The patient group comprised 42 female adolescents aged 14-18 years (mean = 16.42, standard deviation = 1.01). The Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia-Present and Lifetime Version, Dokuz Eylül ToM Index and Reading the Mind in the Eyes test were applied. The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, and Kiddo-KINDL were completed by the participants and their families. A total of 57.2% (n = 24) were classified as SAC with internalizing behavior problems (SAC+I), whereas 66.7% (n = 28) comprised the SAC with externalizing behavior problems (SAC+A) subgroup. SAC+I showed deficits in EF and TOM. Some EF skills were found to be statistically weaker in SAC+A. There was no difference between SAC+A and SAC-A in the TOM tests. The results highlight the need to explore whether these deficiencies are due to psychiatric diseases or whether those who have disabilities in this field carry a higher risk of psychiatric disorder.

Objective: Attributional style, especially external personal attribution bias, was found to play a pivotal role in clinical and non-clinical paranoia. The study of the relationship of the tendency to infer/perceive hostility and blame with theory of mind skills has significant theoretical importance as it may provide additional information on how persons process social situations. The aim of this study was whether hostility perception bias and blame bias might be associated with theory of mind skills, neurocognition and emotional factors in healthy persons., Methods: Total 263 participants (133 male and 130 female) were recruited. The attributional style was measured by using the Ambiguous Intentions Hostility Questionnaire (AIHQ). Participants were requested to complete a Brüne's Theory of Mind Picture Stories task, neurocognitive task including Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM) and digit span, and other emotional dysregulation trait scales including Rosenberg's self-esteem, Spielberg's trait anxiety inventory, and Novaco anger scale., Results: Multiple regression analysis showed that hostility perception bias score in ambiguous situation were found to be associated with theory of mind questionnaire score and emotional dysregulation traits of Novaco anger scale. Also, composite blame bias score in ambiguous situation were found to be associated with emotional dysregulation traits of Novaco anger scale and Spielberg's trait anxiety scale., Conclusion: The main finding was that the attributional style of hostility perception bias might be primarily contributed by theory of mind skills rather than neurocognitive function such as attention and working memory, and reasoning ability. The interpretations and implications would be discussed in details.
