Phthalate esters (PAEs) are used as additives to enhance the pliability and malleability of plastics. These substances frequently migrate from packaging materials to vegetable oils because of the absence of covalent bonds. Over time, this migration could result in the accumulation of PAEs in the human body through ingestion, contributing to various diseases. Therefore, accurate qualitative and quantitative analyses of PAEs in vegetable oils are imperative to assess the origins of contamination and investigate their toxicity, degradation, migration, and transformation patterns. However, the concentration of PAEs in most samples is low, and the composition of vegetable oils is complex. Thus, PAEs must be enriched and purified using appropriate sample pretreatment procedures before analysis. Common methods for pretreating PAEs in oil include solid-phase extraction (SPE), dispersive SPE, and magnetic SPE. These techniques require time-consuming and labor-intensive procedures such as oil dissolution, solvent extraction, and degreasing. These approaches also require numerous solvents and containers, increasing the risk of sample cross-contamination. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) integrates sampling, extraction, purification, concentration, and injection into a single process, significantly accelerating analytical testing and reducing the potential for sample cross-contamination. In headspace (HS) mode, the analytes achieve equilibrium on the coating and are extracted in the gas phase. The fibers are shielded from nonvolatile and high-relative molecular mass substances in the sample matrix. Thus, SPME is an ideal method for extracting volatile compounds in vegetable oils. When HS-SPME coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), it can achieve the rapid screening of PAEs in vegetable oil. In this study, an SPME with cyclodextrin-based hypercrosslinked polymers (BnCD-HCP) coated on stainless steel fibers was employed to extract PAEs from vegetable oil. The structure and morphology of the polymers were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. BnCD-HCP exhibited high stability and diverse interactions, including π-π , hydrophobic, and host-guest interactions. The oil samples were incubated with methanol, and the PAEs were extracted from the headspace using the probe. The optimal extraction parameters included an extraction time of 20 min, extraction temperature of 50 ℃, desorption time of 4 min, and desorption temperature of 275 ℃. The BnCD-HCP/HS-SPME method was evaluated under optimized experimental conditions. The limits of detection (LODs) and quantification (LOQs) were determined by applying signal-to-noise ratios ( S/N ) of 3 and 10, respectively. Method accuracy was evaluated using relative standard deviations (RSDs). Single-needle precision was evaluated by conducting three consecutive analyses at 3 h intervals within a day. Inter-needle precision was assessed by conducting the same analyses (three replicates) with differently coated fibers. The 12 PAE compounds exhibited good linearity with correlation coefficients ( R 2 ) of at least 0.99. The LODs and LOQs ranged from 0.21 to 3.74 μg/kg and from 0.69 to 12.34 μg/kg, respectively. The RSDs were in the range of 1.8%-11.4% and 5.1%-13.9% for the single-needle and needle-to-needle methods, respectively. The proposed method was applied to soybean, peanut, and sunflower oils, and two PAEs were found in all three oils. Moreover, the method demonstrated good precision (RSD=1.17%-11.73%) and recoveries (72.49%-124.43%). Compared with other methods, the developed method was able to extract many target analytes and had a low or comparable LOD and high recovery. More importantly, this method does not require tedious operations such as solvent extraction and purification. Consequently, the developed method can be used to extract not only PAEs in oils but also other substances with a high lipid content.

Objective: Delayed fracture healing is a common complication of fractures that significantly impacts human health. This study aimed to explore the role of LINC00339 (lncRNA) in delayed fracture healing to provide new directions for its treatment., Methods: This study included 82 patients with fractures healing in a normal manner and 90 patients experiencing delayed fracture healing. Levels of LINC00339, miR-16-5p, and osteogenic marker-related mRNAs were measured using RT-qPCR. The predictive potential of LINC00339 for delayed fracture healing was validated using ROC curve analysis. The interaction between LINC00339 and miR-16-5p was validated using dual-luciferase reporter assays and RIP experiments. CCK-8 was used to assess cell proliferation, and apoptosis rates were measured by flow cytometry., Results: LINC00339 was significantly upregulated in delayed fracture healing patients and exhibited strong predictive ability for this condition. Overexpression of LINC00339 inhibited osteoblast proliferation, promoted apoptosis, and reduced mRNA levels of osteogenic markers (P < 0.05). miR-16-5p was recognized as a target mRNA of LINC00339, with LINC00339 exerting negative regulation on miR-16-5p, while overexpression of miR-16-5p mitigated the inhibitory effects of LINC00339 on fracture healing (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: This research indicated that LINC00339 may serve as a diagnostic marker for delayed fracture healing and revealed the function of the LINC00339/miR-16-5p axis on fracture healing by regulating osteoblasts., (© 2024. Integrating structural colors and conductivity into aqueous inks has the potential to revolutionize wearable electronics, providing flexibility, sustainability, and artistic appeal to electronic components. This study aims to introduce bioinspired color engineering to conductive aqueous inks. Our self-assembly approach involves mixing poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) with sulfonic acid-modified polystyrene (sPS) colloids to generate non-iridescent structural colors in the inks. This spontaneous structural coloration occurs because PEDOT:PSS and sPS colloids can self-assemble into core-shell structures and reversibly cluster into photonic aggregates of maximally random jammed packing within the aqueous environment, as demonstrated by small-angle X-ray scattering. Dissipative particle dynamics simulation confirms that the self-assembly aggregation of PEDOT:PSS chains and sPS colloids can be manipulated by the polymer-colloid interactions. Utilizing the finite-difference time-domain method, we demonstrate that the photonic aggregates of the core-shell colloids achieve close to maximum jammed packing, making them suitable for producing vivid structural colors. These versatile conductive inks offer adjustable color saturation and conductivity, with conductivity levels reaching 36 S cm -1 through the addition of polyethylene glycol oligomer, while enhanced water resistance and mechanical stability are achieved by doping with a cross-linker, poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether. With these unique features, the inks can create flexible, patterned circuits through processes like coating, writing, and dyeing on large areas, providing eco-friendly, visually appealing colors for customizable, stylish, comfortable, and wearable electronic devices.

DNA damage is a key factor affecting gametogenesis and embryo development. The integrity and stability of DNA are fundamental to a woman's successful conception, embryonic development, pregnancy and the production of healthy offspring. Aging, reactive oxygen species, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy often induce oocyte DNA damage, diminished ovarian reserve, and infertility in women. With the increase of infertility population, there is an increasing need to study the relationship between infertility related diseases and DNA damage and repair. Researchers have tried various methods to reduce DNA damage in oocytes and enhance their DNA repair capabilities in an attempt to protect oocytes. In this review, we summarize recent advances in the DNA damage response mechanisms in infertility diseases such as PCOS, endometriosis, diminished ovarian reserve and hydrosalpinx, which has important implications for fertility preservation., (© 2024. Background: Droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) is increasingly used in diagnosing clinical pathogens, but its effectiveness in cirrhosis patients with suspected ascites infection remains uncertain., Methods: The diagnostic performance of ddPCR was assessed in 305 ascites samples, utilizing culture and clinical composite standards. The quantitative value and potential clinical impact of ddPCR were further analyzed in patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis., Results: With culture standards, ddPCR demonstrated a sensitivity of 86.5% and specificity of 83.2% for bacterial or fungal detection. After adjustment of clinical composite criteria, specificity increased to 96.4%. Better diagnostic performance for all types of targeted pathogens, particularly fungi, was observed with ddPCR compared to culture, and more polymicrobial infections were detected (30.4% versus 5.7%, p < 0.001). Pathogen loads detected by ddPCR correlated with white blood cell count in ascites and blood, as well as polymorphonuclear cell (PMN) count in ascites, reflecting infection status rapidly. A positive clinical impact of 55.8% (43/77) was observed for ddPCR, which was more significant among patients with PMN count ≤ 250/mm 3 in terms of medication adjustment and new diagnosis. ddPCR results for fungal detection were confirmed by clinical symptoms and other microbiological tests, which could guide antifungal therapy and reduce the risk of short-term mortality., Conclusions: ddPCR, with appropriate panel design, has advantages in pathogen detection and clinical management of ascites infection, especially for patients with fungal and polymicrobial infections. As perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) alternatives, hexafluoropropylene oxide dimeric acid (HFPO-DA) and hexafluoropropylene oxide trimeric acid (HFPO-TA) have been increasingly used and caused considerable water pollution. However, their toxicities to aquatic organisms are still not well known. Therefore, in this study, zebrafish embryos were exposed to PFOA (0, 1.5, 3 and 6 mg/L), HFPO-DA (0, 3, 6 and 12 mg/L) and HFPO-TA (0, 1, 2 and 4 mg/L) to comparatively investigate their thyroid disrupting effects and the developmental toxicity. Results demonstrated that waterborne exposure to PFOA and its two alternatives decreased T4 contents, the heart rate and swirl-escape rate of zebrafish embryos/larvae. The transcription levels of genes related to thyroid hormone regulation (crh), biosynthesis (tpo and tg), function (trα and trβ), transport (transthyretin, ttr), and metabolism (dio1, dio2 and ugt1ab), were differently altered after the exposures, which induced the thyroid disrupting effects and decreased the heart rate. In addition, the transcription levels of some genes related to the nervous system development were also significantly affected, which was associated with the thyroid disrupting effects and consequently affected the locomotor activity of zebrafish. Therefore, HFPO-DA and HFPO-TA could not be safe alternatives to PFOA. Polymeric composites with boron nitride nanosheets (BNNs), which are thermally conductive yet electrically insulating, have been pursued for a variety of technological applications, especially those for thermal management in electronic devices and systems. Highlighted in this review are recent advances in the effort to improve in-plane thermal transport performance in polymer/BNNs composites and also the growing research activities aimed at composites of enhanced cross-plane or isotropic thermal conductivity, for which various filler alignment strategies during composite fabrication have been explored. Also highlighted and discussed are some significant challenges and major opportunities for further advances in the development of thermally conductive composite materials and their mechanistic understandings.

The main chemical compositions of 201 surface sediments and 53 deep sediment samples from Chaohu Lake, China, were analysed. Since the surface sediments (0-2 cm depth) in Chaohu Lake are modern sediments, this paper mainly focuses on the deep sediments (50-100 cm depth) in Chaohu Lake. Particle size analysis and magnetization determination of the CH3 and CH4 column sediment samples were carried out. The age determination data of the CH-1 column sediment samples are reported. A systematic study of the rocks and their chemical compositional characteristics in the Chaohu Lake Basin was also carried out. The results of this study show that four positive chemical weathering indicators and one negative chemical weathering indicator are applicable to the study of Chaohu Lake. The mean CIA of the Chaohu Lake sediments was less than 65, indicating that the Chaohu Lake Basin experienced weak chemical weathering and that the palaeoclimate was cold and dry. Vertical variations in the mean grain size and magnetization in the CH3 and CH4 columnar sediments reflect changes in the depositional environment and climate during deposition of the Chaohu Lake sediments. The age data from the CH-1 column sediment samples directly indicate deposition of the deep sediments in Chaohu Lake during the Little Ice Age in eastern China (AD 1380-1880). The Th/U, Sc/Th, Rb/Sr, Na 2 O/K 2 O, CaO/MgO and OC/N ratios of the Chaohu sediments reflect palaeoclimate characteristics and the chemical compositions of the source rocks in the Chaohu Lake basin. The correlations of the CIA, CIW, PIA, and CIX with the chemical compositional ratios provide information on the palaeoclimate and the distribution of the chemical compositions. The CIA, CIW, PIA, and CIX were not correlated with Cd, Pb, As, Hg, or P. In contrast, the CIA, CIW, PIA, and CIX were significantly positively correlated with Cr and N. The WIP was inconsistently correlated with the selected chemical components. Therefore, the study of the correlations of chemical weathering indicators with four heavy metals and two eutrophication-related elements is of little significance. The study of the chemical weathering characteristics of deep sediments of inland lakes should be combined with assessment of the geological characteristics of the lake basins, particularly the analysis of the chemical composition of the rocks in the lake basins., (© 2024. Economic sectors are pivotal in achieving China's dual carbon goals; nevertheless, the combined impact of industrial and energy consumption structures on sectors' peak pathways remains unresolved. We extend the optimization of separate industrial and energy structures to a multi-objective dynamic input-output optimization model. Findings indicate the following. (1) China's energy-related CO 2 emissions are projected to peak in 2028, reaching a volume of 10.06-10.25 Gt. The contribution of industrial structure upgrading to this peak is three times greater than that of energy structure transformation. (2) Approximately 40% of sectors can delay their peaks until after 2030 without impeding China's overall peaking before 2030. (3) Compared with the single objective of minimizing CO 2 emissions, China can not only achieve its carbon peak earlier but also enhance its average annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth rates by more than 0.26 percentage points and increase the non-fossil energy use's share by at least 2.78%., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing interests., (© 2024 The Author(s).)

Background: This study aimed to assess the public knowledge regarding Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in Zhuhai, China, focusing on identifying knowledge gaps and the influence of demographic and health factors., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Zhuhai, China, from October to November 2022. A total of 1986 residents from 18 communities were selected employing stratified multi-stage equi-proportional sampling. Questionnaires covering general information and the Alzheimer's Disease Knowledge Scale (ADKS) were investigated face-to-face. Ordinal multiclass logistic regression was applied to assess the relationship between AD awareness and demographic and health characteristics., Results: The average ADKS score was 18.5 (SD = 3.36) in Zhuhai. The lowest awareness rates were observed in the "Symptoms" and "Caregiving" subdomains of ADKS, with rates of 51.01% and 43.78%, respectively. The correct rates for the 30 ADKS questions ranged from 16.62 to 92.6%, showing a bimodal pattern with clusters around 80% and 20%. Women (OR = 1.203, 95% CI: 1.009-1.435), individuals aged 60 years or older (OR = 2.073, 95% CI: 1.467-2.932), those living in urban areas (OR = 1.361, 95% CI: 1.117-1.662), higher average monthly household income per capita (OR = 1.641, 95% CI: 1.297-2.082), and without any neurological or mental disorders (OR = 1.810, 95% CI: 1.323-2.478) were more likely to have higher levels of awareness about Alzheimer's disease., Conclusions: Adults in Zhuhai show a limited knowledge of AD, particularly in the 'Symptoms' and 'Caregiving' subdomains. Upcoming health campaigns must focus on bridging the knowledge gaps in different subdomains of AD, especially among subgroups with lower awareness, as identified in our study., (© 2024. We conducted a study on the trajectory-dependent threshold effects of proton stopping power in LiF nanosheets using time-dependent density functional theory non-adiabatically coupled to the molecular dynamics. This study covered protons with initial velocities in the range of 0.1-1.0 a.u., offering a vast amount of detailed information on the electronic structure during the stopping process with superior spatial and temporal resolution. Our results show that the impact parameters of incident protons play a crucial role in determining the threshold behavior of proton stopping power in LiF nanosheets. Most importantly, we found that close collisions do not exhibit a discernible threshold. In addition, the research results also revealed the time dependence of the number of electrons occupying the atomic orbitals of F and Li as protons pass through the nanosheets.

The past few years have witnessed an increasing incidence of nodular goiter (NG), with a well-documented higher prevalence in females than males. This gender disparity has led research to focus primarily on female subjects, potentially overlooking common pathogenic mechanisms in both sexes. In this study, we investigated the shared pathogenesis of NG in males and females. Utilizing a rat model and RNA sequencing, we identified differentially expressed genes associated with the disease. We further validated these findings in normal human thyroid cells and human papillary thyroid cancer cells. A randomized experiment was conducted with equal numbers of male and female rats divided into control and NG model groups. The NG model was established using propylthiouracil and various assessments such as thyroid ultrasonography, thyroid index, thyroid function, and thyroid histology were performed. Transcriptome analysis revealed numerous upregulated and downregulated genes in both male and female model groups. Key genes like KDR , FLT1 , PDGFB , and CAV1 , and pathways including PI3K-Akt, MAPK, Ras, fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis, calcium signaling, and Rap1 signaling pathways were linked with the disease. Western blot and immunofluorescence analysis confirmed these findings, which were further supported by cell-based experiments. In the field of perovskite optoelectronics, developing hole-transporting materials (HTMs) on the spiro[fluorene-9,9'-xanthene] (SFX) platform is one of the current research focuses. The SFX inherits the merits of spirobifluorene in terms of the configuration and property, but it is more easily derivatized and regulated by virtue of its binary structure. In this work, we design and synthesize four isomeric SFX-based HTMs, namely m -SFX- m F , p -SFX- m F , m -SFX- o F , and p -SFX- o F , through varying the positions of fluorination on the peripheral aniline units and their substitutions on the SFX core, and the optoelectronic performance of the resulting HTMs is evaluated in both perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) by the vacuum thermal evaporating hole-transporting layers (HTLs). The HTM p -SFX- o F exhibits an improved power conversion efficiency of 15.21% in an inverted PSC using CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 as an absorber, benefiting from the deep HOMO level and good HTL/perovskite interface contact. Meanwhile, the HTM m -SFX- m F provides a maximum external quantum efficiency of 3.15% in CsPb(Br/Cl) 3 -based PeLEDs, which is attributed to its perched HOMO level and shrunken band-gap for facilitating charge carrier injection and then exciton combination. Through elucidating the synergistic position effect of fluorination on aniline units and their substitutions on the SFX core, this work lays the foundation for developing low-cost and efficient HTMs in the future.

Dynamic infrared radiation regulation has been widely explored for smart windows because of its vital importance for comfortable and energy-efficient buildings. However, it remains a great challenge to synchronously achieve high visible transmittance and pronounced infrared tunability. Here, we propose a dynamic infrared tunable metamaterial composed of indium tin oxide (ITO) gratings, an air insulator, and an ITO reflector. The ITO grating-based infrared radiation regulator exhibits a high emissivity tunability of 0.73 at 8-13 μm while maintaining a high visible transmittance of 0.65 and 0.72 before and after actuation, respectively. By adjusting the geometric parameters, the tunable bandwidth can be further extended to 3-30 μm and the ultra-broadband tunability reaches 0.62. The excellent infrared tunable performance arises from the insulator thickness-dependent effect of Fabry-Pérot and propagating surface plasmon resonance coupling and decoupling, which lead to perfect and low absorption, respectively. This work provides potential for the advancement of smart window technology and makes a significant contribution to sustainable buildings.

Planarly aligning 2D platelets is challenging due to their additional orientational freedom compared to 1D materials. This study reports a sequential dual-alignment approach, employing an extrusion-printing-induced shear force and rotating-magnetic-field-induced force couple for platelet planarly alignment in a yield-stress support bath. It is hypothesized that the partial alignment induced by a directional shear force facilitates subsequent axial rotation of the platelets for planar alignment under an external force couple, resulting in a synergistic alignment effect. This sequential dual-alignment approach achieves better planar alignment of 2D modified hexagonal boron nitride (mhBN). Specifically, the thermal conductivity of the 40 wt% mhBN/epoxy composite is significantly higher (692%) than that of unaligned composites, surpassing the cumulative effect of individual methods (only 133%) with a 5 times more synergistic effect. For 30, 40, and 50 wt% mhBN composites, the thermal conductivity values (5.9, 9.5, and 13.8 W m -1 K -1 ) show considerable improvement compared to the previously reported highest values (5.3, 6.6, and 8.6 W m -1 K -1 ). Additionally, a 3D mhBN/epoxy heat sink is printed and evaluated to demonstrate the feasibility of device fabrication. Herein, we present a unified chemical synthesis of three subgroups of cephalotaxus diterpenoids. Key to the success lies in adopting a synthetic strategy that is inspired by biosynthesis but is opposite in nature. By employing selective one-carbon introduction and ring expansion operations, we have successfully converted cephalotane-type C 18 dinorditerpenoids (using cephanolide B as a starting material) into troponoid-type C 19 norditerpenoids and intact cephalotane-type C 20 diterpenoids. This synthetic approach has enabled us to synthesize cephinoid H, 13-oxo-cephinoid H, 7-oxo-cephinoid H, fortalpinoid C, 7-epi-fortalpinoid C, cephanolide E, and 13-epi-cephanolide E. Furthermore, through the development of an intermolecular asymmetric Michael reaction between β-oxo esters and β-substituted enones, we have achieved the enantioselective synthesis of advanced intermediates within our synthetic sequence, thus formally realizing the asymmetric total synthesis of the cephalotaxus diterpenoids family., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Objectives: This study explored the association between the Frailty Index (FI) and low back pain (LBP) in middle-aged and older Chinese adults. We hypothesised that a higher FI correlates with increased LBP prevalence., Design: Cross-sectional analysis., Setting: The study used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) across various regions of China., Participants: The analysis included 6375 participants aged 45 and above with complete LBP and FI data from the CHARLS for 2011, 2013 and 2015. We excluded individuals under 45, those with incomplete LBP data, participants with fewer than 30 health deficit items and those missing covariate data., Outcome Measures: We constructed an FI consisting of 35 health deficits. Logistic multivariable regression examined the relationship between FI and LBP, using threshold analysis to identify inflection points. Sensitivity analyses were performed to ensure the robustness of the findings., Results: Of the participants, 27.2% reported LBP. A U-shaped association was observed between FI and LBP, with the highest quartile (Q4, FI ≥0.23) showing more than a twofold increased risk of LBP (OR=2.90, 95% CI: 2.45-3.42, p<0.001). Stratified analysis showed a significant association in participants under 60, particularly in the lowest FI quartile (OR=1.43, 95% CI: 1.14 to 1.79). Sensitivity analysis upheld the robustness of the primary results., Conclusions: The findings suggest a complex relationship between frailty and LBP, highlighting the need for early screening and tailored interventions to manage LBP in this demographic. A novel cellulose composite (denoted as PEI@MMA-1) with porous interconnected structure was prepared by adsorbing methyl cellulose (MC) onto microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and cross-linking polyethyleneimine (PEI) with MCC by the action of epichlorohydrin, which had the excellent adsorption property, wettability and elasticity. The performances of PEI@MMA-1 composite for removing tetracycline (TC), Cu 2+ and coexistent pollutant (TC and Cu 2+ mixture) were systematically explored. For single TC or Cu 2+ contaminant, the maximum adsorption capacities were 75.53 and 562.23 mg/g at 30 °C, respectively, while in the dual contaminant system, they would form complexes and Cu 2+ could play a "bridge" role to remarkably promote the adsorption of TC with the maximum adsorption capacities of 281.66 and 253.58 mg/g for TC and Cu 2+ . In addition, the adsorption kinetics, isotherms and adsorption mechanisms of single-pollutant and dual-pollutant systems have been thoroughly investigated. Background: The pathogenesis of memory impairment, a common complication of chronic neuropathic pain (CNP), has not been fully elucidated. Schwann cell (SC)-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) contribute to remote organ injury. Here, we showed that SC-EVs may mediate pathological communication between SCs and hippocampal neurons in the context of CNP., Methods: We used an adeno-associated virus harboring the SC-specific promoter Mpz and expressing the CD63-GFP gene to track SC-EVs transport. microRNA (miRNA) expression profiles of EVs and gain-of-function and loss-of-function regulatory experiments revealed that miR-142-5p was the main cargo of SC-EVs. Next, luciferase reporter gene and phenotyping experiments confirmed the direct targets of miR-142-5p., Results: The contents and granule sizes of plasma EVs were significantly greater in rats with chronic sciatic nerve constriction injury (CCI)than in sham rats. Administration of the EV biogenesis inhibitor GW4869 ameliorated memory impairment in CCI rats and reversed CCI-associated dendritic spine damage. Notably, during CCI stress, SC-EVs could be transferred into the brain through the circulation and accumulate in the hippocampal CA1-CA3 regions. miR-142-5p was the main cargo wrapped in SC-EVs and mediated the development of CCI-associated memory impairment. Furthermore, α-actinin-4 (ACTN4), ELAV-like protein 4 (ELAVL4) and ubiquitin-specific peptidase 9 X-linked (USP9X) were demonstrated to be important downstream target genes for miR-142-5p-mediated regulation of dendritic spine damage in hippocampal neurons from CCI rats., Conclusion: Together, these findings suggest that SCs-EVs and/or their cargo miR-142-5p may be potential therapeutic targets for memory impairment associated with CNP., (© 2024. Due to incommensurability between initial thickness and interdomain distance, thermal annealing inevitably produces relief surface terraces (islands and holes) of various morphologies in thin films of block copolymers. We have demonstrated three kinds of surface terraces in blend films: polygrain terraces with diffuse edges, polygrain terraces with step edges, and pseudo-monograin terraces with island coarsening. The three morphologies were obtained by three different thermal histories, respectively. The thermal histories were imposed on blend films, which were prepared by mixing a homopolystyrene (hPS, 6.1 kg/mol) with a weakly segregated, symmetry polystyrene-block poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS- b -PMMA, 42 kg/mol) followed by spin coating. At a given weight-fraction ratio of PS- b -PMMA/hPS = 75/25, the interior of the blend films forms parallel cylinders. Nevertheless, the surface of the blend films is always dominated by a skin layer of perforations, which epitaxially grow on top of parallel cylinders. By oxygen plasma etching at various time intervals to probe interior nanodomains, the epitaxial relationship between surface perforations and parallel cylinders has been identified by a scanning electron microscope.

Background: Thyroid surgery involves the partial or complete removal of the thyroid gland and is a frequently performed surgical procedure. The adoption of robots, equipped with flexible and stable operating systems, has garnered acceptance among numerous surgeons for their capability to enable precise anatomical dissection in thyroid surgery. To gain a comprehensive insight into the present research landscape of robot-assisted thyroid surgery, this paper endeavored to conduct a thorough analysis of the field through bibliometric analysis., Methods: Relevant literature pertaining to robot-assisted thyroid surgery was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database, spanning from the inception of WOSCC to October 17, 2022. Visual analyses of publication quantity, distribution across countries/regions, institutions/organizations, authorship, journals, references, and keywords were conducted using Microsoft Excel, the bibliometrix package in R, Citescape, and VOSviewer software., Results: A total of 505 articles from 406 institutions in 36 countries/regions were included. South Korea emerged with highest number of publications. Notably, Professor CHUNG WY from Yonsei University in South Korea and the journal "Surg Endosc" stood out with the most publications. The current research landscape indicated significant interest in endoscopic thyroidectomy, surgical procedures, and the axillary approach. In addition, transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TROT), and learning curve (LC) were recognized as research frontiers, representing potential future hotspots in this field., Conclusion: This study marks the first bibliometric analysis of the literature on robot-assisted thyroid surgery. The sex difference that females are more vulnerable to depression than males has been recently replicated in an animal model of early-life stress (ES) called the limited bedding and nesting material (LBN) paradigm. Adopting this animal model, we have previously examined the effects of ES on monoamine transporter (MATs) expression in stress-related regions in adult female mice, and the reversal effects of a novel multimodal antidepressant, vortioxetine. In this study, replacing vortioxetine with a classical antidepressant, fluoxetine, we aimed to replicate the ES effects in adult female mice and to elucidate the commonality and differences between fluoxetine and vortioxetine. We found that systemic 30-day treatment with fluoxetine successfully reversed ES-induced depression-like behaviors (especially sucrose preference) in adult female mice. At the molecular level, we largely replicated the ES effects, such as reduced serotonin transporter (SERT) expression in the amygdala and increased norepinephrine transporter (NET) expression in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and hippocampus. Similar reversal effects of fluoxetine and vortioxetine were observed, including SERT in the amygdala and NET in the mPFC, whereas different reversal effects were observed for NET in the hippocampus and vesicular monoamine transporters expression in the nucleus accumbens. Overall, these results demonstrate the validity of the LBN paradigm to induce depression-like behaviors in female mice, highlight the involvement of region-specific MATs in ES-induced depression-like behaviors, and provide insights for further investigation of neurobiological mechanisms, treatment, and prevention associated with depression in women., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors report no conflict of interests., (Copyright © 2024. The transport sector proves a major energy consumer in China, but improving energy-saving performance in China's provincial transport sector from the lifecycle perspective remains unresolved. Thus, this study employs the environmentally extended multi-region input-output (MRIO) method, structural path analysis, and the newest MRIO table of China from 2017, to investigate how to improve the energy-saving performance from final demand structure, supply chain, and pathway perspectives. The relevant results are threefold. (1) Regarding the final demand structure level, the embodied energy consumption of China's transport sector is predominantly driven by investment from the production side, while that of the consumption side is primarily caused by exports. (2) At the supply chain level, production-side embodied energy consumption primarily occurs along a three-echelon supply chain, while that from the consumption side mostly occurs via a two-echelon supply chain. Objective: This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the epidemiology of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to COVID-19 in China., Methods: This study was conducted by 45 tertiary Grade-A hospitals in China. Online and offline questionnaire data were obtained from patients infected with COVID-19 between December 28, 2022, and February 21, 2023. The collected information included basic demographics, medical history, smoking and drinking history, vaccination history, changes in olfactory and gustatory functions before and after infection, and other postinfection symptoms, as well as the duration and improvement status of olfactory and gustatory disorders., Results: Complete questionnaires were obtained from 35,566 subjects. The overall incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunction was 67.75%. Being female or being a cigarette smoker increased the likelihood of developing olfactory and taste dysfunction. Having received four doses of the vaccine or having good oral health or being a alcohol drinker decreased the risk of such dysfunction. Before infection, the average olfactory and taste VAS scores were 8.41 and 8.51, respectively; after infection, they decreased to 3.69 and 4.29 and recovered to 5.83 and 6.55 by the time of the survey. The median duration of dysosmia and dysgeusia was 15 and 12 days, respectively, with 0.5% of patients having symptoms lasting for more than 28 days. The overall self-reported improvement rate was 59.16%. Recovery was higher in males, never smokers, those who received two or three vaccine doses, and those that had never experienced dental health issues, or chronic accompanying symptoms., Conclusions: The incidence of dysosmia and dysgeusia following infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is high in China. Histamine, found abundantly in salt-fermented foods, poses a risk of food poisoning. Natronobeatus ordinarius , a halophilic archaeon isolated from a salt lake, displayed a strong histamine degradation ability. Its histamine oxidase (HOD) gene was identified ( hod Nbs ). This is the first report of an archaeal HOD. The HOD Nbs protein was determined to be a tetramer with a molecular weight of 307 kDa. HOD Nbs displayed optimum activity at 60-65 °C, 1.5-2.0 M NaCl, and pH 6.5. Notably, within the broad NaCl range between 0.5 and 2.5 M, HOD Nbs retained above 50% of its maximum activity. HOD Nbs exhibited good thermal stability, pH stability, and salinity tolerance. HOD Nbs was able to degrade various biogenic amines. The V max of HOD Nbs for histamine was 0.29 μmol/min/mg, and the K m was 0.56 mM. HOD Nbs exhibited high efficiency in histamine removal from fish sauce, namely, 100 μg of HOD Nbs degraded 5.63 mg of histamine (37.9%) in 10 g of fish sauce within 24 h at 50 °C. This study showed that HOD Nbs with excellent enzymatic properties has promising application potentials to degrade histamine in high-salt foods.

Succinylation is a highly conserved post-translational modification that is processed via enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms. Succinylation exhibits strong effects on protein stability, enzyme activity, and transcriptional regulation. Protein succinylation is extensively present in the liver, and increasing evidence has demonstrated that succinylation is closely related to hepatic metabolism. For instance, histone acetyltransferase 1 promotes liver glycolysis, and the sirtuin 5-induced desuccinylation is involved in the regulation of the hepatic urea cycle and lipid metabolism. Therefore, the effects of succinylation on hepatic glucose, amino acid, and lipid metabolism under the action of various enzymes will be discussed in this work. In addition, how succinylases regulate the progression of different liver diseases will be reviewed, including the desuccinylation activity of sirtuin 7, which is closely associated with fatty liver disease and hepatitis, and the actions of lysine acetyltransferase 2A and histone acetyltransferase 1 that act as succinyltransferases to regulate the succinylation of target genes that influence the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. Witnessing violent or traumatic events is common during childhood and adolescence and could cause detrimental effects such as increased risks of psychiatric disorders. This stressor could be modeled in adolescent laboratory animals using the chronic witnessing social defeat (CWSD) paradigm, but the behavioral consequences of CWSD in adolescent animals remain to be validated for cognitive, anxiety-like, and depression-like behaviors and, more importantly, the underlying neural mechanisms remain to be uncovered. In this study, we first established the CWSD model in adolescent male mice and found that CWSD impaired cognitive function and increased anxiety levels and that these behavioral deficits persisted into adulthood. Based on the dorsal-ventral functional division in hippocampus, we employed immediate early gene c-fos immunostaining after behavioral tasks and found that CWSD-induced cognition deficits were associated with dorsal CA3 overactivation and anxiety-like behaviors were associated with ventral CA3 activity reduction. Indeed, chemogenetic activation and inhibition of dorsal CA3 neurons mimicked and reversed CWSD-induced recognition memory deficits (not anxiety-like behaviors), respectively, whereas both inhibition and activation of ventral CA3 neurons increased anxiety-like behaviors in adolescent mice. Finally, chronic administration of vortioxetine (a novel multimodal antidepressant) successfully restored the overactivation of dorsal CA3 neurons and the cognitive deficits in CWSD mice. Together, our findings suggest that dorsal CA3 overactivation mediates CWSD-induced recognition memory deficits in adolescent male mice, shedding light on the pathophysiology of adolescent CWSD-induced adverse effects and providing preclinical evidence for early treatment of stress-induced cognitive deficits., (© 2024. Objective: To study the relationship between umbilical cord blood vitamin A (VA) and neonatal lung diseases and explore the impact of umbilical cord blood VA on neonatal lung diseases., Method: Umbilical vein blood was collected at birth, and its VA content was measured. According to the VA levels in umbilical cord blood, a VA deficiency (VAD) group, a marginal deficiency group and a normal group were created and followed up until 28 days after birth., Results: The umbilical cord blood VA level in the neonatal group with lung disease was 0.13 ± 0.05 mg/L, while the result for the VA level in the non-lung disease group was 0.15 ± 0.05 mg/L. The umbilical cord blood VA levels in the neonatal lung disease group were significantly lower than those in the non-lung disease group. The incidence of neonatal pulmonary diseases was highest in the VAD group, and the incidence decreased as the level of VA in umbilical cord blood increased. Umbilical cord blood VAD and premature birth were found to be independent risk factors for neonatal respiratory disease., Conclusion: Umbilical cord blood VAD and premature birth are independent risk factors for neonatal pulmonary diseases. To investigate the effect of active immunisation with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) on the reproductive function in male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats, 24 42-day-old rats were randomly assigned to treatment with GnRH6-MAP, GnRH-OVA, a surgical castration group, and a blank control group. Each rat in the treatment groups was intramuscularly injected at 6, 8, and 10 weeks of age. The serum concentrations of testosterone (T), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinising hormone (LH), and anti-GnRH antibodies were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. The results showed that active immunisation with recombinant GnRH6-MBP and GnRH-OVA significantly increased the serum levels of anti-GnRH antibodies and reduced the serum concentrations of testosterone compared to the black control. Eight weeks after immunisation, the rats' testes were surgically removed for morphological evaluation, showing atrophy of the convoluted vasculature, relative emptying of the lumen, and insignificant differentiation of spermatogonial cells, which were increased in weight and volume compared with the blank control group. These findings indicated that active immunisation with GnRH can lead to testicular atrophy and reduce gonadal hormone concentrations, suggesting that GnRH is a highly effective immunogen.

Background: Glycerol, as a by-product, mainly derives from the conversion of many crops to biodiesel, ethanol, and fatty ester. Its bioconversion to 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) is an environmentally friendly method. Continuous fermentation has many striking merits over fed-batch and batch fermentation, such as high product concentration with easy feeding operation, long-term high productivity without frequent seed culture, and energy-intensive sterilization. However, it is usually difficult to harvest high product concentrations., Results: In this study, a three-stage continuous fermentation was firstly designed to produce 1,3-PDO from crude glycerol by Clostridium butyricum, in which the first stage fermentation was responsible for providing the excellent cells in a robust growth state, the second stage focused on promoting 1,3-PDO production, and the third stage aimed to further boost the 1,3-PDO concentration and reduce the residual glycerol concentration as much as possible. Through the three-stage continuous fermentation, 80.05 g/L 1,3-PDO as the maximum concentration was produced while maintaining residual glycerol of 5.87 g/L, achieving a yield of 0.48 g/g and a productivity of 3.67 g/(L·h). Based on the 14 sets of experimental data from the first stage, a kinetic model was developed to describe the intricate relationships among the concentrations of 1,3-PDO, substrate, biomass, and butyrate. Subsequently, this kinetic model was used to optimize and predict the highest 1,3-PDO productivity of 11.26 g/(L·h) in the first stage fermentation, while the glycerol feeding concentration and dilution rate were determined to be 92 g/L and 0.341 h -1 , separately. Additionally, to achieve a target 1,3-PDO production of 80 g/L without the third stage fermentation, the predicted minimum volume ratio of the second fermenter to the first one was 11.9. The kinetics-based two-stage continuous fermentation was experimentally verified well with the predicted results., Conclusion: A novel three-stage continuous fermentation and a kinetic model were reported. Then a simpler two-stage continuous fermentation was developed based on the optimization of the kinetic model. This kinetics-based development of two-stage continuous fermentation could achieve high-level production of 1,3-PDO. Solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) industrialization has been developing for many years. Commercial materials such as 8 mol% Y 2 O 3 -stabilized zirconia (YSZ), Gd 0.1 Ce 0.9 O 1.95 (GDC), La 0.6 Sr 0.4 Co 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3-δ (LSCF), La 0.6 Sr 0.4 CoO 3-δ (LSC), etc., have been used for many years, but the problem of mismatched thermal expansion coefficients of various materials between cells has not been fundamentally solved, which affects the lifetime of SOECs and restricts their industry development. Currently, various solutions have been reported, such as element doping, manufacturing defects, and introducing negative thermal expansion coefficient materials. To promote the development of the SOEC industry, a direct treatment method for commercial materials-quenching and doping-is reported to achieve the controllable preparation of the thermal expansion coefficient of commercial materials. The quenching process only involves the micro-treatment of raw materials and does not have any negative impact on preparation processes such as powder slurry and sintering. It is a simple, low-cost, and universal research strategy to achieve the controllable preparation of the thermal expansion coefficient of the commercial material La 0.6 Sr 0.4 Co 0.2 Fe 0.8 O 3-δ (LSCF) through a quenching process by doping elements and increasing oxygen vacancies in the material. Commercial LSCF materials are heated to 800 °C in a muffle furnace, quickly removed, and cooled and quenched in 3.4 mol/L of prepared Y(NO 3 ) 3 . The thermal expansion coefficient of the treated material can be reduced to 13.6 × 10 -6 K -1 , and the blank sample is 14.1 × 10 -6 K -1 . In the future, it may be possible to use the quenching process to select appropriate doping elements in order to achieve similar thermal expansion coefficients in SOECs.

Objective: To examine the application of a novel pedagogical approach multidimensional supportive psychological intervention (MSPI) in the clinical practice teaching of andrological nursing care., Methods: Using the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), we assessed the psychology of 100 nursing interns about to enter clinical practice in the Department of Andrology from December 2021 to December 2022. We equally randomized the subjects into an experimental and a control group, the former receiving MSPI and the latter trained on the conventional teaching model without any psychological support intervention., Results: Compared with the baseline, the HAMD scores were significantly decreased in the experimental group after intervention (12.4±2.1 vs 8.9±2.4, P<0.01), but increased in the controls (13.1±1.8 vs 14.7±1.9, P<0.01); the skill scores dramatically increased in the experimental group (82.6±4.7 vs 91.2±2.4, P<0.01), but decreased in the control group after intervention (81.0±3.5 vs 80.4±2.7, P = 0.28)., Conclusion: MSPI can significantly enhance the learning enthusiasm of nursing students in a short period, reduce their psychological stress and improve teaching outcomes. This approach, combining psychology with teaching, can also strengthen the mental resilience of nursing students and better confront them with future professional challenges.

Rationale and Objectives: To develop and validate a random forest model based on radiomic features in Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MRI for predicting the Ki-67 expression in solitary HCC., Materials and Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 258 patients with solitary HCC. Significant clinicoradiological factors were identified through univariate and multivariate analyses for distinguishing HCC with high (>20%) and low (≤20%) Ki-67 expression. Radiomic features were extracted at Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MRI. The recursive feature elimination (RFE) strategy was employed to screen robust radiomic features, and the Random Forest (RF) algorithm was utilized to rank radiomic features and construct prediction models. The AUC, accuracy, precision, recall, and f1-score were used to evaluate the performance of RF models., Results: Multivariate analysis identified serum AFP level, tumor size, growth type, and peritumoral enhancement as independent predictors for HCC with high Ki-67 expression. The clinicoradiological-radiomic model that incorporated the clinicoradiological predictors and the top ten radiomic features outperformed the clinicoradiological model in the training set (AUCs 0.876 vs. 0.780; p < 0.001), though the test set did not have a statistical significance (AUCs 0.809 vs. 0.723; p = 0.123). The addition of clinicoradiological predictors did not yield a significant improvement in the performance of radiomic features in both sets (training, p = 0.692; test, p = 0.229). Carbon-semiconductor hybrid quantum dots are classical carbon dots with core carbon nanoparticles doped with a selected nanoscale semiconductor. Specifically, on those with the nanoscale TiO 2 doping, denoted as C TiO2 -Dots, their synthesis and thorough characterization were reported previously. In this work, the C TiO2 -Dots were evaluated for their visible light-activated antibacterial function, with the results showing the effective killing of not only Gram-positive but also the generally more resistant Gram-negative bacteria. The hybrid dots are clearly more potent antibacterial agents than their neat carbon dot counterparts. Mechanistically, the higher antibacterial performance of the C TiO2 -Dots is attributed to their superior photoexcited state properties, which are reflected by the observed much brighter fluorescence emissions. Also considered and discussed is the possibility of additional contributions to the antibacterial activities due to the photosensitization of the nanoscale TiO 2 by its doped core carbon nanoparticles.

In ruminants, establishment and maintenance of pregnancy depends upon a well-coordinated interaction between the conceptus and the maternal endometrium. Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is important for embryo implantation and pregnancy establishment. However, the regulatory mechanisms of EGF expression remain unclear. FOXO1, a member of the Forkhead box O (FOXO) subfamily of transcription factors, is currently accepted as a novel endometrial receptivity marker for humans and mice owing to its timely and specific expression at the window of implantation. In this study, we examined the spatiotemporal expression profile of EGF in goat uterus during early pregnancy (Day 0 to Day 50 of pregnancy) and verified that EGF expression was regulated by FOXO1 and interferon tau (IFNT). Our results showed that EGF was highly expressed in the luminal epithelium (LE) and the glandular epithelium (GE) during conceptus adhesion (Day 16 to Day 25 of pregnancy). After implantation, EGF protein signals were continuously detected in the endometrial epithelia and appeared in the conceptus trophectoderm. People experience similarities between emotional feelings and bodily states on a daily basis, but both the magnitude and pervasiveness of this experiential similarity vary across individuals. Inspired by previous findings that chronic pain (CP) is characterized by strengthened pain-affect coupling and reduced interoceptive accuracy, we conducted 2 cross-sectional studies to examine whether patients with CP would exhibit less differentiated perception and mental representation of emotional feelings and bodily states. In study 1 (N = 500), patients with CP and healthy controls (HCs) completed a self-report questionnaire that asked explicitly about the perceived similarity between 5 basic emotion categories and a series of bodily states. In study 2 (N = 73), a specially designed false memory test was administered to examine whether patients with CP would have reduced differentiation of concepts of negative emotion and somatic distress. We found that patients with CP perceived greater and more pervasive similarities between emotional feelings and bodily states, as indicated by higher questionnaire scores and denser, less specialized bipartite emotion-body networks, both associated with lower subjective interoceptive accuracy. Furthermore, patients with CP formed false memories of negative emotion words (eg, grief) more readily than HCs after memorizing somatic distress words (eg, soreness), as if they represented negative emotion and somatic distress as a single, enmeshed semantic category. Our findings extend previous literature by demonstrating reduced discrimination between emotional and bodily experiences in CP that is not restricted to pain-related emotional and sensory experiences and may be related to a fundamentally less differentiated interoception. PERSPECTIVES: This study shows that patients with chronic pain have a profoundly less differentiated perception and implicit conceptualization of emotional feelings and bodily states, which appears to be associated with altered interoception. Cell immobilization plays an important role in biocatalysis for high-value products. It is necessary to maintain the viability of immobilized cells for bioconversion using viable cells as biocatalysts. In this study, a novel polyester nonwoven chemostat was designed for cell immobilization to investigate biofilm formation and the dynamic balance between adsorption and desorption of cells on polyester nonwoven. The polyester nonwoven was suitable for cell immobilization, and the cell numbers on the polyester nonwoven can reach 6.5 ± 0.38 log CFU/mL. After adding the polyester nonwoven to the chemostat, the fluctuation phenomenon of free bacterial cells occurred. The reason for this phenomenon was the balance between adsorption and desorption of bacterial cells on the polyester nonwoven. Bacterial cells could adhere to the surface of polyester nonwoven via secreting extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) to form biofilms. As the maturation of biofilms, some dead cells inside the biofilms can cause the detachment of biofilms. We have demonstrated the molecular-weight effects of adding homopolystyrene (hPS) on the evolution of perforated layers and double gyroids in polystyrene- block -poly(methyl methacrylate)-based films during isothermal annealing. Two homopolystyrenes of 2.8 and 17 kg mol -1 were used. To prepare blend films, PS- b -PMMA and hPS x ( x : 2.8 or 17) were mixed at a weight-fraction ratio of 75/25 in toluene and then spin-coated at SiO x /Si. Spin coating inevitably produced films with thick edges at the periphery of the substrate. The structural evolution of the spun films was in situ characterized by grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS). The annealed films were then characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). We found that thin middle regions behaved differently from thick beads for the films. The middle of the blend films mainly formed perforated layers with different spatial orders and orientations, depending on the molecular weight of added hPS chains. Hexagonally perforated layers quickly formed at 205 °C for PS- b -PMMA/hPS 2.8 films. However, when hPS 17 was used instead of hPS 2.8 , perforated layers formed with defects in PS- b -PMMA/hPS 17 films annealed at 205 °C. Annealing at 240 °C improved the spatial order and orientation of perforated layers for a PS- b -PMMA/hPS 17 film. Nevertheless, annealing at 240 °C inversely depressed the in-plane spatial order of perforated layers for a PS- b -PMMA/hPS 2.8 film. The depression in the in-plane spatial order is ascribed to a dilution effect of added short chains. Compared to the middle regions, the thick beads went through several metastable phases, such as perpendicularly oriented perforated layers and double gyroids.

To study the relationship between the yield of 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) and the flux change of the Clostridium butyricum metabolic pathway, an optimized calculation method based on dynamic flux balance analysis was used by combining genome-scale flux balance analysis with a kinetic model. A more comprehensive and extensive metabolic pathway was obtained by optimization calculations. The primary extended branches include: the dihydroxyacetone node, which enters the pentose phosphate pathway; the α-oxoglutarate node, which has synthetic metabolic pathways for glutamic acid and amino acids; and the serine and homocysteine nodes, which produce cystathionine before homocysteine enters the methionine cycle pathway. According to the expanded metabolic network, the flux distribution of key nodes in the metabolic pathway and the relationship between the flux distribution ratio of nodes and the yield of 1,3-PDO were analyzed. At the dihydroxyacetone node, the flux of dihydroxyacetone converted to dihydroxyacetone phosphate was positively correlated with the yield of 1,3-PDO. As an important intermediate product, the flux change in the metabolic pathway of α-oxoglutarate reacting with amino acids to produce glutamic acid is positively correlated with the yield. When pyruvate was used as the central node to convert into lactic acid and α-oxoglutarate, the proportion of branch flux was negatively correlated with the yield of 1,3-PDO. A magnetic composite of CoFe 2 O 4 and carbon nanotube (CNT) was prepared using the solvothermal approach and then employed for the activation of peroxydisulfate (PDS) to degrade reactive black 5 (RB5) and other organic pollutants. Characterization results of the composite catalyst revealed the successful loading of spherical CoFe 2 O 4 particles on CNTs, possessing abundant porosity as well as magnetic separation capability. Under the degradation conditions of 0.2 g/L CoFe 2 O 4 -CNT dosage and 4 mM PDS dosage, the removal efficiencies of 10 mg/L RB5 and other pollutants were in the range of 94.5 to ~ 100%. The effects of pH, co-existing ions/humic acid, and water matrices as well as the reusability of the catalyst were also investigated in detail. Background: Atrial esophageal fistula (AEF) is a lethal complication that can occur post atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. Esophageal injury (EI) is likely to be the initial lesion leading to AEF. Endoscopic examination is the gold standard for a diagnosis of EI but extensive endoscopic screening is invasive and costly. This study was conducted to determine whether fecal calprotectin (Fcal), a marker of inflammation throughout the intestinal tract, may be associated with the existence of esophageal injury., Methods: This diagnostic study was conducted in a cohort of 166 patients with symptomatic AF undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation from May 2020 to June 2021. Fcal tests were performed 1-7 days after ablation. All patients underwent endoscopic ultrasonography 1 or 2 days after ablation., Results: The levels of Fcal were significantly different between the EI and non-EI groups (404.9 µg/g (IQR 129.6-723.6) vs. 40.4 µg/g (IQR 15.0-246.2), p < .001). Analysis of ROC curves revealed that a Fcal level of 125 µg/g might be the optimal cut-off value for a diagnosis of EI, giving a 78.8% sensitivity and a 65.4% specificity. The negative predictive value of Fcal was 100% for ulcerated EI., Conclusions: The level of Fcal is associated with EI post AF catheter ablation. 125 µg/g might be the optimal cut-off value for a diagnosis of EI. Purpose: To construct machine learning models based on radiomics features combing conventional transrectal ultrasound (B-mode) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to improve prostate cancer (PCa) detection in peripheral zone (PZ)., Methods: A prospective study of 166 men (72 benign, 94 malignant lesions) with targeted biopsy-confirmed pathology who underwent B-mode and CEUS examinations was performed. Risk factors, including age, serum total prostate-specific antigen (tPSA), free PSA (fPSA), f/t PSA, prostate volume and prostate-specific antigen density (PSAD), were collected. Time-intensity curves were obtained using SonoLiver software for all lesions in regions of interest. Four parameters were collected as risk factors: the maximum intensity (IMAX), rise time (RT), time to peak (TTP), and mean transit time (MTT). Radiomics features were extracted from the target lesions from B-mode and CEUS imaging. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to construct the model., Results: A total of 3306 features were extracted from seven categories. Finally, 32 features were screened out from radiomics models. Five models were developed to predict PCa: the B-mode radiomics model (B model), CEUS radiomics model (CEUS model), B-CEUS combined radiomics model (B-CEUS model), risk factors model, and risk factors-radiomics combined model (combined model). Age, PSAD, tPSA, and RT were significant independent predictors in discriminating benign and malignant PZ lesions (P < 0.05). The risk factors model combing these four predictors showed better discrimination in the validation cohort (area under the curve [AUC], 0.84) than the radiomics images (AUC, 0.79 on B model; AUC, 0.78 on CEUS model; AUC, 0.83 on B-CEUS model), and the combined model (AUC: 0.89) achieved the greatest predictive efficacy., Conclusion: The prediction model including B-mode and CEUS radiomics signatures and risk factors represents a promising diagnostic tool for PCa detection in PZ, which may contribute to clinical decision-making., (© 2023. Background: Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a group of inflammatory diseases affecting the central nervous system, characterized by optic neuritis and myelitis. The complex nature of NMOSD and varied patient response necessitates personalized treatment and efficient patient stratification strategies., Objective: To provide a comprehensive review of recent advances in clinical and biomarker research related to aquaporin-4 (AQP4)-immunoglobulin G (IgG)-seropositive NMOSD prognosis and identify key areas for future research., Methods: A comprehensive review and synthesis of recent literature were conducted, focusing on demographic factors and laboratory investigations., Results: Demographic factors, such as age, ethnicity, and sex, influence NMOSD prognosis. Key biomarkers for NMOSD prognosis include homocysteine, antinuclear antibodies, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, thyroid hormone levels, neurofilament light chain levels, and serum glial fibrillary acidic protein might also predict NMOSD attack prognosis., Conclusion: Further investigation is required to understand sex-related disparities and biomarker inconsistencies. Identification and understanding of these factors can aid in the development of personalized therapeutic strategies, thereby improving outcomes for NMOSD patients. Objective: Qingfei formula (QF) is an empirical formula that shows good clinical efficacy in treating human respiratory syncytial virus pneumonia (RSVP). However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study explores the possible pharmacological actions of QF in RSVP treatment., Methods: We used a network pharmacology approach to identify the active ingredients of QF, forecast possible therapeutic targets, and analyze biological processes and pathways. Molecular docking simulation was used to evaluate the binding capability of active ingredients and therapeutic targets. Finally, in vivo experiments confirmed the reliability of network pharmacology-based prediction of underlying mechanisms., Results: The study identified 92 potential therapeutic targets and corresponding 131 active ingredients. Enrichment analysis showed that QF downregulated the MAPK signaling pathway and suppressed the inflammatory injury to the lungs induced by the RSV virus. Molecular docking simulations demonstrated that the core active ingredients of QF could stably bind to genes associated with the MAPK signaling pathway. QF had a protective effect against pneumonia in RSV-infected mice. The QF group exhibited a significant reduction in the levels of inflammatory mediators, interleukin- 6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (CXCL8, IL-8), and P-STAT3, compared to the RSV-induced group. The QF group showed remarkably inhibited MAPK1+3(P-ERK1+2) and MAPK8(P-JNK) protein expression., Conclusion: The current study showed that QF downregulated the MAPK signaling pathway, which inhibited pulmonary inflammation triggered by RSV infection. Dentine is a major component of teeth and is responsible for many of their functions, such as mastication and neural sensation/transduction. Over the past decades, numerous studies have focused on dentine development and regeneration using a variety of research models, including in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro models. In vivo animal models play a crucial role in the exploration of biochemical factors that are involved in dentine development, whereas ex vivo and in vitro models contribute mainly to the identification of biophysical factors in dentine regeneration, of which mechanical force is most critical. In the present review, research models involved in studies related to dentine development and regeneration were screened from publications released in recent years and summarised comprehensively, particularly in vivo animal models including prokaryotic microinjection, Cre/LoxP, CRISPR/Cas9, ZFN and TALEN, and scaffold-based in vitro and ex vivo models. The latter were further divided by the interactive forces. Summarising these research models will not only benefit the development of future dentine-related studies but also provide hints regarding the evolution of novel dentine regeneration strategies.

Rational design and regulation of atomically precise photocatalysts are essential for constructing efficient photocatalytic systems tunable at both the atomic and molecular levels. Herein, we propose a platform-based strategy capable of integrating both pore space partition (PSP) and open-metal sites (OMSs) as foundational features for constructing high-performance photocatalysts. We demonstrate the first structural prototype obtained from this strategy: pore-partitioned NiTCPE- pstp (TCPE = 1,1,2,2-tetra(4-carboxylphenyl)ethylene, pstp = partitioned stp topology). Nonpartitioned NiTCPE- stp is constructed from six-connected [Ni 3 (μ 3 -OH)(COO) 6 ] trimer and TCPE linker to form 1D hexagonal channels with six coplanar OMSs directed at channel centers. After introducing triangular pore-partitioning ligands, half of the OMSs were retained, while the other half were used for PSP, leading to unprecedented microenvironment regulation of the pore structure. The resulting material integrates multiple advanced properties, including robustness, wider absorption range, enhanced electronic conductivity, and high CO 2 adsorption, all of which are highly desirable for photocatalytic applications. Remarkably, NiTCPE- pstp exhibits excellent CO 2 photoreduction activity with a high CO generation rate of 3353.6 μmol g -1 h -1 and nearly 100% selectivity. Theoretical and experimental studies show that the introduction of partitioning ligands not only optimizes the electronic structure to promote the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers but also reduces the energy barrier for the formation of *COOH intermediates while promoting CO 2 activation and CO desorption. This work is believed to be the first example to integrate PSP strategies and OMSs within metal-organic framework (MOF) photocatalysts, which provides new insight as well as new structural prototype for the design and performance optimization of MOF-based photocatalysts.

Li 2 MnO 3 nanobelts have been synthesized via the molten salt method that used the Na 0.44 MnO 2 nanobelts as both the manganese source and precursor template in LiNO 3 -LiCl eutectic molten salt. The electrochemical properties of Li 2 MnO 3 reduced via a low-temperature reduction process as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries have been measured and compared. Particularly investigated in this work are the effects of the synthesis conditions, such as reaction temperature, molten salt contents, and reaction time on the morphology and particle size of the synthesized Na 0.44 MnO 2 precursor. Through repeated synthesis characterizations of the Na 0.44 MnO 2 precursor, and comparing the electrochemical properties of the reduced Li 2 MnO 3 nanobelts, the optimum conditions for the best electrochemical performance of the reduced Li 2 MnO 3 are determined to be a molten salt reaction temperature of 850 °C and a molten salt amount of 25 g. When charge-discharged at 0.1 C (1 C = 200 mAh g -1 ) with a voltage window between 2.0 and 4.8 V, the reduced Li 2 MnO 3 synthesized with reaction temperature of Na 0.44 MnO 2 precursor at 850 °C and molten salt amounts of 25 g exhibits the best rate performance and cycling performance. This work develops a new strategy to prepare manganese-based cathode materials with special morphology.

Introduction: Value hierarchies, as motivational goals anchored in the self-schema, may be correlated with spontaneous activity in the resting brain, especially those involving self-relevance. This study aims to investigate the neural correlates of value hierarchies from the perspective of typology., Methods: A total of 610 Chinese college students (30.31% women), aged 18 to 23, completed the personal values questionnaire and underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging., Results: The latent profile analysis revealed three personal value profiles: traditional social orientation, modernized orientation, and undifferentiated orientation. Neuroimaging results revealed that individuals with modernized orientation prioritized openness to change value, and this personal-focus is related to the higher low-frequency amplitude of the posterior insula; individuals with traditional social orientation prioritized self-transcendence and conservation values, and this social-focus is related to the stronger functional connectivity of the middle insula with the inferior temporal gyrus, temporal gyrus, posterior occipital cortex, and basal ganglia, as well as weaker functional connections within the right middle insula., Discussion: Taken together, these findings potentially indicate the intra-generational differentiation of contemporary Chinese emerging adults' value hierarchies.
