In order to ensure the filling integrity of complex counter-gravity casting and improve metallurgical quality, it is necessary to shorten the filling time while avoiding air entrainments. To address this contradiction, a novel nonlinear pressurization method was proposed in this study. Through systematically analyzing the relationship between critical gating velocity and stable filling height, a criterion for iterative calculation of nonlinear pressurization curve was established, and an empirical expression between nonlinear pressurizing speed and the filling height was obtained. Based on the empirical expression, a nonlinear pressurization curve can be designed according to the casting structures and initial pressurizing speeds. The above nonlinear pressure curve design method was validated through water filling experiments. It was proved that the nonlinear pressure curve can shorten the filling time while avoiding air entrainments. Inflammation caused by a bacterial infection and the subsequent dysregulation of the host immune-inflammatory response are detrimental to periodontal regeneration. Herein, we present an infection-sensitive scaffold prepared by layer-by-layer assembly of Feraheme-like superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) on the surface of a three-dimensional-printed polylactic- co -glycolic acid (PLGA) scaffold. The SPION/PLGA scaffold is magnetic, hydrophilic, and bacterial-adhesion resistant. As indicated by gene expression profiling and confirmed by quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and flow cytometry analysis, the SPION/PLGA scaffold facilitates macrophage polarization toward the regenerative M2 phenotype by upregulating IL-10, which is the molecular target of repair promotion, and inhibits macrophage polarization toward the proinflammatory M1 phenotype by downregulating NLRP3, which is the molecular target of anti-inflammation. As a result, macrophages modulated by the SPS promote osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) in vitro . In a rat periodontal defect model, the SPION/PLGA scaffold increased IL-10 secretion and decreased NLRP3 and IL-1β secretion with Porphyromonas gingivalis infection, achieving superior periodontal regeneration than the PLGA scaffold alone. Therefore, this antibacterial SPION/PLGA scaffold has anti-inflammatory and bacterial antiadhesion properties to fight infection and promote periodontal regeneration by immunomodulation. These findings provide an important strategy for developing engineered scaffolds to treat periodontal defects.

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Inflammatory response after stroke determines the outcome of ischemic injury. A recent study has reported an efficient method, epidural arterial implantation (EAI), for accelerating interstitial fluid (ISF) drainage, which provides a promising strategy to clear pro-inflammatory cytokines in the brain extracellular space (ECS). In this study, the method of EAI was modified (m-EAI) to control its function of accelerating the ISF drainage at different time points following ischemic attack. The neuroprotective effect of m-EAI on ischemic stroke was evaluated with the transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) rat model. The results demonstrated the accumulation of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α was significantly decreased by activating m-EAI at 7 d before and immediately after ischemic attack in tMCAO rats, accompanied with decreased infarct volume and improved neurological function. This study consolidates the hypothesis of exacerbated ischemic damage by inflammatory response and provides a new perspective to treat encephalopathy via brain ECS. In this study, we successfully fabricated Fe 61 Zr 10 Co 5 Mo 7 W 2 B 15 and Ni 61 Nb 19 . 2 Ta 19 . 8 amorphous fibers (AFs) using the melt-extraction method. This method ensured a rapid cooling, uniform quality, minimal defects, and superior performance. Magnetic property analysis revealed that the Fe-based AFs exhibited a single-slope magnetization curve characteristic of paramagnetic or diamagnetic materials, while the Ni-based AFs displayed a rectangular curve with low magnetic hysteresis, typical of ferromagnetic materials. The axial saturation magnetization of as-prepared Ni-based AFs is ~1.5 × 10 -7 emu/g, with a coercivity of about 85 Oe. The statistical analysis of tensile tests indicated that Ni-based AFs possess a higher fracture threshold of 2440 ± 199 MPa and a reliability of 14.7, demonstrating greater material safety and suitability for high-performance applications. As opposed to Ni-based AFs, Fe-based AFs present a fracture threshold and of 1582 ± 692 MPa and a reliability 4.2. Moreover, under cyclic loading conditions, Ni-based AFs exhibited less residual deformation and superior elastic recovery with a fracture strength of 2800 MPa. These findings highlight the potential of Ni-based AFs for advanced engineering applications, particularly where high strength, durability, and excellent magnetic properties are required, paving the way for their integration into next-generation technologies.

Background: Gigantocellular reticular nucleus (GRNs) executes a vital role in locomotor recovery after spinal cord injury. However, due to its unique anatomical location deep within the brainstem, intervening in GRNs for spinal cord injury research is challenging. To address this problem, this study adopted an extracorporeal magnetic stimulation system to observe the effects of selective magnetic stimulation of GRNs with iron oxide nanoparticles combined treadmill training on locomotor recovery after spinal cord injury, and explored the possible mechanisms., Methods: Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles were stereotactically injected into bilateral GRNs of mice with moderate T10 spinal cord contusion. Eight-week selective magnetic stimulation produced by extracorporeal magnetic stimulation system (MSS) combined with treadmill training was adopted for the animals from one week after surgery. Locomotor function of mice was evaluated by the Basso Mouse Scale, Grid-walking test and Treadscan analysis. Brain MRI, anterograde virus tracer and immunofluorescence staining were applied to observe the tissue compatibility of SPIO in GRNs, trace GRNs' projections and evaluate neurotransmitters' expression in spinal cord respectively. Motor-evoked potentials and H reflex were collected for assessing the integrity of cortical spinal tract and the excitation of motor neurons in anterior horn., Results: (1) SPIO persisted in GRNs for a minimum of 24 weeks without inducing apoptosis of GRN cells, and degraded slowly over time. (2) MSS-enabled treadmill training dramatically improved locomotor performances of injured mice, and promoted cortico-reticulo-spinal circuit reorganization. (3) MSS-enabled treadmill training took superimposed roles through both activating GRNs to drive more projections of GRNs across lesion site and rebalancing neurotransmitters' expression in anterior horn of lumbar spinal cord., Conclusion: These results indicate that selective MSS intervention of GRNs potentially serves as an innovative strategy to promote more spared fibers of GRNs across lesion site and rebalance neurotransmitters' expression after spinal cord injury, paving the way for the structural remodeling of neural systems collaborating with exercise training, thus ultimately contributing to the reconstruction of cortico-reticulo-spinal circuit., Competing Interests: All authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (© 2024 Li et al.)

This therapeutic strategy compensates for the limitations of low spatial resolution and low focusing of magnetic stimulation, and realizes the goal of wireless teletherapy with precise targeting of focal areas. This paper summarizes the preparation methods of magnetic nanomaterials, the properties of magnetic nanoparticles, the biological effects, and the measurement methods for detecting magnetism; discusses the research progress of precision magnetotherapy in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, neurological injuries, metabolic disorders, and bone-related disorders, and looks forward to the future development trend of precision magnet therapy., (© 2024 IOP Publishing Ltd.)

Cell co-culture technology aims to study the communication mechanism between cells and to better reveal the interactions and regulatory mechanisms involved in processes such as cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis, and other cellular activities. This is achieved by simulating the complex organismic environment. Such studies are of great significance for understanding the physiological and pathological processes of multicellular organisms. As an emerging cell cultivation technology, 3D cell co-culture technology, based on microfluidic chips, can efficiently, rapidly, and accurately achieve cell co-culture. This is accomplished by leveraging the unique microchannel structures and flow characteristics of microfluidic chips. The technology can simulate the native microenvironment of cell growth, providing a new technical platform for studying intercellular communication. It has been widely used in the research of oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and other fields. In this review, we summarize and provide insights into the design of cell co-culture systems on microfluidic chips, the detection methods employed in co-culture systems, and the applications of these models.

Background: Post-cardiac arrest brain injury (PCABI) is the leading cause of death in survivors of cardiac arrest (CA). Carbon monoxide-releasing molecule (CORM-3) is a water-soluble exogenous carbon monoxide that has been shown to have neuroprotection benefits in several neurological disease models. However, the effects of CORM-3 on PCABI is still unclear., Methods: A mice model combined asystole with hemorrhage was used. Mice were anesthetized and randomized into 4 groups (n = 12/group) and underwent either 9.5 min CA followed by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or sham surgery. CORM-3 (30 mg/kg) or vehicle (normal saline) were administered at 1 h after return of spontaneous circulation or sham surgery. Survival, neurologic deficits, alterations in the permeability of the brain-blood barrier and cerebral blood flow, changes of oxidative stress level, level of neuroinflammation and neuronal degeneration, and the activation of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway were measured., Results: In CORM-3 treated mice that underwent CA/CPR, significantly improved survival (75.00% vs. 58.33%, P  = 0.0146 (24 h) and 66.67% vs. 16.67%, P  < 0.0001 (72 h)) and neurological function were observed at 24 h and 72 h after ROSC ( P  < 0.05 for each). Additionally, increased cerebral blood flow, expression of tight junctions, and reduced reactive oxygen species generation at 24 h after ROSC were observed ( P  < 0.05 for each). CORM-3 treated mice had less neuron death and alleviated neuroinflammation at 72 h after ROSC ( P  < 0.05 for each). Notably, the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway was significantly activated in mice subjected to CA/CPR with CORM-3 treatment., Conclusions: CORM-3 could improve survival and exert neuroprotection after CA/CPR in mice. Iron oxide nanoparticles are a kind of important biomedical nanomaterials. Although their industrial-scale production can be realized by the conventional coprecipitation method, the controllability of their size and morphology remains a huge challenge. In this study, a kind of synthetic polypeptide Mms6-28 which mimics the magnetosome protein Mms6 is used for the bioinspired synthesis of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (NPs). Magnetosomes-like Fe 3 O 4 NPs with uniform size, cubooctahedral shape, and smooth crystal surfaces are synthesized via a partial oxidation process. The Mms6-28 polypeptides play an important role by binding with iron ions and forming nucleation templates and are also preferably attached to the [100] and [111] crystal planes to induce the formation of uniform cubooctahedral Fe 3 O 4 NPs. The continuous release and oxidation of Fe 2+ from pre-formed Fe 2+ -rich precursors within the Mms6-28-based template make the reaction much controllable. Induction skull melting (ISM) technology could melt metals with avoiding contamination from crucible. A long-standing problem of ISM is that the low charge energy utilization and inhomogeneous fields have obstructed its application in many critical metal materials and manufacturing processes. The present work investigated the problem through the structure optimization strategy and established a numerical electromagnetic-field model to evaluate components' eddy current loss. Based on the model, the effect of crucible and inductor structure on charge energy utilization, etc. was studied. Furtherly, the charge energy utilization was increased from 27.1 to 45.89% by adjusting the system structure. Moreover, structure modifications are proposed for enhancing electromagnetic intensity and uniformity, charge soft contact and uniform heating. Here, we propose for the first time the evaluation of magnetosensitive clMagR/clCry4 as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reporter gene that imparts sensitivity to endogenous contrast in eukaryotic organisms. Using a lentiviral vector, we introduced clMagR/clCry4 into C57BL/6 mice-derived bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (mBMSCs), which could specifically bind with iron, significantly affected MRI transverse relaxation, and generated readily detectable contrast without adverse effects in vivo. Specifically, clMagR/clCry4 makes mBMSCs beneficial for enhancing the sensitivity of MRI-R 2 for iron-bearing granules, in which cells recruit exogenous iron and convert these stores into an MRI-detectable contrast; this is not achievable with control cells. Additionally, Prussian blue staining was performed together with ultrathin cell slices to provide direct evidence of natural iron-bearing granules being detectable on MRI. Hence, it was inferred that the sensitivity of MRI detection should be correlated with clMagR/clCry4 and exogenous iron. Taken together, the clMagR/clCry4 has great potential as an MRI reporter gene. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: In this study, we propose the evaluation of magnetosensitive clMagR/clCry4 as an MRI reporter gene, imparting detection sensitivity to eukaryotic mBMSCs for endogenous contrast. At this point, the clMagR and clCry4 were located within the cytoplasm and possibly influence each other. The clMagR/clCry4 makes mBMSCs beneficial for enhancing the sensitivity of MRI-R 2 for iron-bearing granules, in which protein could specifically bind with iron and convert these stores into MRI-detectable contrast; this is not achieved by control cells. Background: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is accompanied by an imbalance in the cardiac autonomic nervous system, characterized by over-activated sympathetic tone and reduced vagal nerve activity. In our preceding study, we pioneered the development of the magnetic vagus nerve stimulation (mVNS) system. This system showcased precise vagus nerve stimulation, demonstrating remarkable effectiveness and safety in treating myocardial infarction. However, it remains uncertain whether mVNS can mitigate myocardial I/R injury and its specific underlying mechanisms. In this study, we utilized a rat model of myocardial I/R injury to delve into the therapeutic potential of mVNS against this type of injury., Results: Our findings revealed that mVNS treatment led to a reduction in myocardial infarct size, a decrease in ventricular fibrillation (VF) incidence and a curbing of inflammatory cytokine release. Mechanistically, mVNS demonstrated beneficial effects on myocardial I/R injury by inhibiting NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis through the M 2 AChR/OGDHL/ROS axis., Conclusions: Collectively, these outcomes highlight the promising potential of mVNS as a treatment strategy for myocardial I/R injury., (© 2023. Introduction: Collagen-based scaffolds, renowned for their exceptional biocompatibility, have garnered attention as promising scaffolds for advancing bone tissue regeneration. Nevertheless, these scaffolds possess inherent limitations, such as notably compromised osteo-conductivity and osteo-inductivity. Methods: Our study focused on enhancing the mechanical properties and osteogenic bioactivities of bovine-derived collagen membranes (CMs) from the Achilles tendon by incorporating FDA-approved iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs), termed as IONP-CM. Three types of IONP-CMs (IONP-CM-0.5, IONP-CM-1, and IONPCM-1.5) were constructed by altering the amounts of feeding IONPs. Results: Surface topography analysis demonstrated comparable characteristics between the IONP-CM and neat CM, with the former exhibiting augmented mechanical properties. In vitro evaluations revealed the remarkable biocompatibility of IONP-CMs toward mouse calvarial pre-osteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells, concurrently stimulating osteogenic differentiation. Mechanistic investigations unveiled that the osteogenic differentiation induced by IONP-CMs stemmed from the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Furthermore, in vivo bone regeneration assessment was performed by implanting IONP-CMs into the radial defect in rabbits. Results derived from micro-computed tomography and histological analyses unequivocally substantiated the capacity of IONP-CMs to expedite bone repair processes. Recently, iron-based sulfides, including iron sulfide minerals and biological iron sulfide clusters, have attracted widespread interest, owing to their excellent biocompatibility and multi-functionality in biomedical applications. As such, controlled synthesized iron sulfide nanomaterials with elaborate designs, enhanced functionality and unique electronic structures show numerous advantages. Furthermore, iron sulfide clusters produced through biological metabolism are thought to possess magnetic properties and play a crucial role in balancing the concentration of iron in cells, thereby affecting ferroptosis processes. The electrons in the Fenton reaction constantly transfer between Fe 2+ and Fe 3+ , participating in the production and reaction process of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This mechanism is considered to confer advantages in various biomedical fields such as the antibacterial field, tumor treatment, biosensing and the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, we aim to systematically introduce recent advances in common iron-based sulfides.

Magnetic-sensitive proteins are regarded as key factors in animals' precise perception of the geomagnetic field. Accurate feedback on the response of these tiny proteins to magnetic fields remains a challenge. Here, we first propose a real-time accurate magnetic sensor based on the MagR/Cry4 complex-configured graphene transistor with an integrated on-chip gate. A nanometer-thick denatured bovine serum albumin film was used as the bio-interface of graphene electrolyte-gated transistors (EGTs) to immobilize the MagR/Cry4 complex. With the optimization and characterization of this bionic graphene EGT, it could detect magnetic fields in real time with a sensitivity of 1 mT, which is far lower than in earlier research. It was concluded that our MagR/Cry4 complex-configured graphene EGTs with a side-gate held great promise in terms of geomagnetic field detection. Furthermore, the constructed approach in this paper could also be utilized as a general solution for recording the response of magnetically sensitive biomolecules to magnetic fields in real time.

Rapid development of medical imaging, such as cellular tracking, has increased the demand for "live" contrast agents. This study provides the first experimental evidence demonstrating that transfection of the clMagR/clCry4 gene can impart magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T 2 -contrast properties to living prokaryotic Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) in the presence of Fe 3+ through the endogenous formation of iron oxide nanoparticles. The transfected clMagR/clCry4 gene markedly promoted uptake of exogenous iron by E. coli , achieving an intracellular co-precipitation condition and formation of iron oxide nanoparticles. The imbalance between the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous system is one of the main pathogeneses of myocardial infarction (MI). Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), which restores autonomic nervous balance by enhancing the parasympathetic drive, is shown to have benefits for patients with MI. As a clinically safe and effective remote neuromodulation method, magnetic stimulation is expected to overcome the problems of infection and nerve injury caused by electrode implantation. However, it is difficult to achieve precise stimulation on a single vagus nerve due to the poor focus of the magnetic field. Here, we described a novel magnetic vagus nerve stimulation (mVNS) system, which consisted of an injectable chitosan/β-glycerophosphate (CS/GP) hydrogel loaded with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles and a mild magnetic pulse sequence. The injectable hydrogel prepared from clinically safe materials ensured minimally invasive implantation, and the SPIO nanoparticles in the hydrogel mediated the precise magnetic stimulation of a single vagus nerve. Under a mild magnetic field (∼100 mT), a decrease in heart rate and a change in vagus nerve potential were found in rats under in situ injection of a magnetic CS/GP hydrogel. Magnetic stimulation on the vagus nerve for 4 weeks (20 Hz, three times daily, 5 minutes each time) significantly improved the cardiac function and reduced the infarct size of the rats subjected to myocardial infarction, accompanied by suppression of inflammatory cell infiltration and inflammation factor expression. Taken together, these results demonstrated that the mVNS exhibited promising potential for treating myocardial infarction in the clinic.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) are widely used in bone tissue engineering because of their unique physical and chemical properties and their excellent biocompatibility. Under the action of a magnetic field, SPIONs loaded in a biological scaffold can effectively promote osteoblast proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, and so on. SPIONs have very broad application prospects in bone repair, bone reconstruction, bone regeneration, and other fields. In this paper, several methods for forming biological scaffolds via the biological assembly of SPIONs are reviewed, and the specific applications of these biological scaffolds in bone tissue engineering are discussed.

Although some progress has been made in the treatment of cancer, challenges remain. In recent years, advancements in nanotechnology and stem cell therapy have provided new approaches for use in regenerative medicine and cancer treatment. Among them, magnetic nanomaterials have attracted widespread attention in the field of regenerative medicine and cancer; this is because they have high levels of safety and low levels of invasibility, promote stem cell differentiation, and affect biological nerve signals. In contrast to pure magnetic stimulation, magnetic nanomaterials can act as amplifiers of an applied electromagnetic field in vivo, and by generating different effects (thermal, electrical, magnetic, mechanical, etc.), the corresponding ion channels are activated, thus enabling the modulation of neuronal activity with higher levels of precision and local modulation. In this review, first, we focused on the relationship between biological nerve signals and stem cell differentiation, and tumor development. In addition, the effects of magnetic nanomaterials on biological neural signals and the tumor environment were discussed. Finally, we introduced the application of magnetic-nanomaterial-mediated electromagnetic stimulation in regenerative medicine and its potential in the field of cancer therapy.

Two-dimensional gold-assembled nanomaterials have garnered considerable interest in biomedical applications such as wearable sensors and flexible devices. The assembly can be accomplished via attractive interactions between gold nanoparticles (GNPs) and a standard polymer. It is highly desirable and a great challenge to develop a new assembly method that can provide formed materials with novel properties. In this work, we explored complementary DNA-functionalized gold nanoparticles (DNA-GNPs) as building blocks to establish multifunctional two-dimensional gold nanomaterials via layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly. We found that the DNA-mediated assembly endows GNP films with a superlattice and their sonic behavior could be regulated in a controllable manner through altering the sequence of SH-DNA and linker DNA, which was detected by the electric-induced ultrasound method. Our observation suggested that this DNA-mediated assembly of GNP films with controllable sonic behaviors could greatly promote the biomedical application of two-dimensional assembled-gold nanomaterials.

Magnetic hydrogels composed of hydrogel matrices and magnetic nanomaterials have attracted widespread interests. Thereinto, magnetic hydrogels with ordered structure possessing enhanced functionalities and unique architectures, show tremendous advantages in biomedical fields. The ordered structure brought unique anisotropic properties and excellent physical properties. Furthermore, the anisotropic properties of magnetic ordered hydrogels are more analogous to biological tissues in morphology and mechanical property, showing better biocompatibility and bioinducibility. Thus, we aim to systematically describe the latest advances of magnetic hydrogels with ordered structure. Firstly, this review introduced the synthetic methods of magnetic hydrogels focus on constructing ordered structure. Then, their functionalities and biomedical applications are also summarized. Arthrospira platensis is a kind of filament cyanobacteria, which is mainly helical with a few linear. The shape of the filaments, such as the length and the pitch, may change with the changes in the environment. Natural Arthrospira platensis FACHB793 is linear, although it has become helical due to a mutation introduced in the process of cultivation. To study the molecular mechanism responsible for the morphological changes of the filaments, two samples were isolated from a natural mutant of Arthrospira platensis FACHB793, which were helical shaped (named A793&#95;H) and linear shaped (named A793&#95;L). Transcriptome sequencing, GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the expression of genes related to or involved in peptidoglycan biosynthesis, beta lactam resistance, photosynthetic antenna protein expression, bacterial secretion, and ABC transporter activity changed between the two samples. The expression of murE and murG in the peptidoglycan biosynthesis pathway and that of oppD in beta lactam resistance were all down-regulated in the helical filaments, which may be related to the longer cell wall and higher peptidoglycan synthesis in linear filaments than helical filaments. In helical filaments, the up-regulation of tatC gene expression in bacterial secretion may be related to the secretion of peptidoglycan degrading enzymes, which may help to change the shape from linear to helical. Moreover, apcA and cpcA in photosynthetic antenna protein expression and nrt and nirA in nitrogen metabolism were all down regulated in the helical filaments, which may be due to the deformed shape of A. platensis FACHB793, resulting in decreased photosynthetic activity in helical filaments. Leukemia is a non-solid cancer which features the malignant proliferation of leukocytes. Excessive leukocytes of lesions in peripheral blood will infiltrate organs, resulting in intumescence and weakening treatment efficiency. In this study, we proposed a novel approach for targeted clearance of the leukocytes in the peripheral blood ex vivo, which employed magnetic nanochains to selectively destroy the leukocytes of the lesions. The nanochains were doxorubicin-loaded nanochains of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles which were fabricated by the solvent exchange method combined with magnetic field-directed self-assembly. Firstly, the nanochains were added into the peripheral blood during extracorporeal circulation and subjected to a rotational magnetic field for actuation. The leukocytes of the lesion were then conjugated by the nanochains via folic acid (FA) targeting. Finally, the rotational magnetic field actuated the nanochains to release the drugs and effectively damage the cytomembrane of the leukocytes. This strategy was conceptually shown in vitro (K562 cell line) and the method's safety was evaluated in a rat model. The preliminary results demonstrate that the nanochains are biocompatible and suitable as drug carriers, showing direct lethal action to the leukemic cells combined with a rotational magnetic field. More importantly to note is that the nanochains can be effectively kept from entry into the body. We believe this extracorporeal circulation-based strategy by activating nanochains magnetically could serve as a potential method for leukemia treatment in the future.

The carbon-nutrient-water cycles of farmland ecosystem not only provides support for crop production, but also has an impact on the environment. Comprehensively quantifying the impact of crop production on the environment can provide a basis for crop sustainable production. A series of environmental footprint approaches, including carbon footprint (CF), nitrogen footprint (NF) and water footprint (WF), were optimized to evaluate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reactive nitrogen (Nr) loss and water resource consumption in crop production, and a comprehensive footprint method based on Endpoint modeling was proposed to evaluate the overall environmental impact of crop production in China. The CF, NF and WF of 28 forms of crop production varied from 1206.29 kg CO 2 equivalent (CO 2 -eq) ha -1 of oil crops to 7326.37 kg CO 2 -eq ha -1 of fiber crops, 16.07 kg Nr-eq ha -1 of oil crops to 60.70 kg Nr-eq ha -1 of sugar crops, and 4032.04 m 3 ha -1 oil crops to 12,476.28 m 3 ha -1 of sugar crops, respectively. The contribution of each component to footprints varied greatly among different crops, and fertilizer manufacture, NH 3 volatilization and green WF were generally the main contributors of CF, NF and WF, respectively. The total GHG emissions, Nr loss and water consumption were estimated to be 670.11 Tg CO 2 -eq, 5.50 Tg Nr-eq and 837.06 G m 3 for all crop production of China. The greenhouse vegetable with the highest area-scaled comprehensive footprint was 4.5 times that of the oil crops which had the lowest one. The contribution of crop production to the corresponding environmental impact in China was as low as 3.7%, of which NH 3 volatilization contributed 48% and grain production contributed 72%. The mechanistic investigation of the coprecipitation formation of iron oxides has been a long-standing challenge due to the rapid reaction kinetics and high complexity of iron hydrolysis reactions. Although a few studies have suggested that the coprecipitation of iron oxide nanoparticles follows a non-classic route through inter-particle attachment, the compositions of the primary particles remain undetermined. Herein, by using a specially designed gas/liquid mixed phase fluidic reactor we controlled the reaction time from 3 s to over 5 min, and successfully identified the concentration of different intermediate phases as a function of time. We suggest that the initial Fe 3+ ions are hydrolyzed under the alkaline condition to give Fe(OH) 3 , which then rapidly dehydrates to yield α-FeOOH. In the presence of Fe 2+ ions, which could also act as the catalyst, α-FeOOH finally transforms to Fe 3 O 4 .

Catechol pollutants (CATPs) serving as chelating agents could coordinate with many metal ions to form various CATPs-metal complexes. Little information is available on the effects of complexation of metal ions on CATPs degradation. This work presents a systematical study of •OH-mediated degradation of catechol and catechol-metal complexes over the whole pH range in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Results show that the pH-dependent complexation of metal ions (Zn 2+ , Cu 2+ , Ti 4+ and Fe 3+ ) promotes the deprotonation of catechol under neutral and even acidic conditions. The radical adduct formation (RAF) reactions are both thermodynamically and kinetically favorable for all dissociation and complexation species, and OH/O - group-containing C positions are more vulnerable to •OH attack. The kinetic results show that the complexation of the four metal ions offers a wide pH range of effectiveness for catechol degradation. At pH 7, the apparent rate constant (k app ) values for different systems follow the order of catechol+Ti 4+ ≈ catechol+Zn 2+ > catechol+Cu 2+ > catechol+Fe 3+ > catechol. The mechanistic and kinetic results would greatly improve our understanding of the degradation of CATPs-metal and other organics-metal complexes in AOPs. Metal-free photocatalysts for high efficient photocatalytic degradation of pollutants have attracted growing concern in recent years. Herein, relying on density functional theory (DFT) calculations, boron and phosphorus doped C 2 N layers were explored for the potential of utilization as photocatalysts for 4, 5-dichloroguaiacol (4, 5-DCG) removal. Our computations revealed that the adsorption energy of 4, 5-DCG on B@N-doped C 2 N layers were 26.56 kcal mol -1 , and the ΔG ≠ of initial reactions of 4, 5-DCG with OH were also reduced onto the B@N-doped C 2 N substrates. The band gap of B@N-doped C 2 N was 2.27 eV. The obtained results showed that the doping of boron atom into C 2 N layer narrows bandgap, and retains well catalytic performance and adsorption properties. Hence, B@N-doped C 2 N layer is a promising photocatalyst for organic pollutants removal. Possible degradation pathways of 4, 5-DCG and aquatic toxicity assessment during degradation were also carried out. Granular scaffolds have been extensively used in the clinic to repair irregular maxillofacial defects. There remain some challenges for the repair of trabecular structures in cancellous bone due to the reticular lamella-like morphology. In this study, we fabricated a novel granular scaffold by rational design of components with different degradation rates so that the morphology of the novel scaffold can evolve to match the growth period of bone cells. Here, polycaprolactone (PCL) was used to fabricate porous microspheres as a skeleton with slow degradation. The macropores were filled with quick degraded gelatin to form complete microspheres. Asynchronous degradation of the two components altered the morphology of the evolutive scaffold from compact to porous, gradually exposing the ridge-like skeletons. This scaffold reversed the decline of cellular adhesion to simple porous skeletons during the initial adhesion. Furthermore, the cells were able to grow into the pores and adhere onto the skeletons with an elongated cellular morphology, facilitating osteogenic differentiation. This novel scaffold was experimentally proven to promote the regeneration of alveolar bone along with a good percentage of bone volume and the formation of trabecular structures. Emerging evidence suggests that dysfunction of the visual cortex may be involved in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We previously established that combined magnetic stimulation system treatment (c-MSST) resulted in an antidepressant effect in mice. In the present study, we found that V1-targeted c-MSST induced significant antidepressant effects in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)- and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated mice. Proteomic screening investigation and repeatable validation revealed that expression of the V1 neuronal ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) and apolipoprotein A-1 (ApoA1) was downregulated in CUMS mice, an effect that was normalized by c-MSST. Neuron-specific knockdown of ABCA1 in V1 blocked c-MSST's antidepressant effects. Mechanistically, CUMS reduced dendritic spine density and long-term plasticity in V1, and these deficits were reversed by c-MSST. Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is the most common malignant tumor of the male urinary system. Nanodrug delivery systems (NDDS) have been widely applied in drug delivery for tumor therapy; however, nanotherapeutics encounter various biological barriers that prevent successful accumulation of drugs, specifically at diseased sites. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a CRPC-targeting nanocomposite with fine biocompatibility for penetrating various biological barriers, delivering sufficient drugs to the targeting site and improving therapeutic efficiency. In this work, CRPC cell membranes were firstly adapted as biomimetic vectors for the encapsulating PEG-PLGA polymer containing the chemotherapy drug docetaxel (DTX). The CRPC membrane-camouflaged nanoparticles can easily escape early recognition by the immune system, penetrate the extracellular barrier, and evade clearance by the circulatory system. In addition to the characteristics of traditional nanoparticles, the CRPC cell membrane contains an arsenal of highly specific homotypic moieties that can be used to recognize the same cancer cell types and increase the targeted drug delivery of DTX. In vivo fluorescence and radionuclide dual-model imaging were fulfilled by decorating the biomimetic nanosystem with near-infrared dye and isotope, which validated the homotypic targeting property offered by the CRPC cell membrane coating. Importantly, remarkably improved therapeutic efficacy was achieved in a mice model bearing CRPC tumors. This homologous cell membrane enabled an efficient drug delivery strategy and enlightened a new pathway for the clinical application of tumor chemotherapy drugs in the future.

Developing light structure materials that work stably at elevated temperatures is a long-standing challenge for many application fields, particularly in the development of aerospace equipment. Zn/Cd alloying elements were prospected to improve the stability of the lightest Mg-Li based alloys; however, little is known about the intermediate-temperature mechanical properties of such alloys. The present work investigated the tensile behaviors of a cold-rolled Mg-Li-Al-Cd-Zn alloy in a temperature range of 30-150 °C. The results indicate that the alloy can host a tensile strength σ UTS of 108~121 MPa, a yield strength σ YP of 97~109 MPa and elongation ε B of 14-15 % at 150 °C, dependent on the tensile direction. The mechanical properties intensively are modulated by temperature through the competition between work hardening and softening. Work hardening due to dislocation blocking by the precipitated MgLi 2 X phase dominated the deformation at low temperatures, while softening that resulted from dynamic recrystallization was the main effect at high temperatures. Correspondingly, a quasi-cleavage mechanism dominated the fracture at temperatures near room temperature, and microvoid coalescence worked at high temperatures above 100 °C. Our results offer a new experimental understanding of the elevated-temperature mechanical behaviors of Mg-Li alloys and will advance the development of new light magnesium alloys with high stability.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of Compound Sidaxue (SX), a prescription of Chinese Miao medicine, in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using network pharmacology and in vivo experimental approaches., Methods: Network pharmacology was adopted to detect the active components of four Traditional Chinese herbal medicine (TCM) of SX, and the key targets and signaling pathways in the treatment of RA were predicted, and the key components and targets were screened for molecular docking. The predicted targets and pathways were validated in bovine type II collagen and incomplete Freund's adjuvant emulsifier-induced rat RA model., Results: In this study, we identified 33 active components from SX, predicted to act on 44 RA-associated targets by network pharmacology. PPI network demonstrated that TNF-α, VEGF-A, IL-2, IL-6, AKT, PI3K, STAT1 may serve as the key targets of SX for the treatment of RA. The main functional pathways involving these key targets include PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, NF-κB signaling pathway. Molecular docking analysis found that the active components β-amyrin, cajanin, eleutheroside A have high affinity for TNF-α, VEGFA, IL-2, AKT, and PI3K, etc. SX can improve joint swelling in Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats, reduce inflammatory cell infiltration and angiogenesis in joint synovial tissue, and down-regulate IL-2, IL-6, TNF-α, VEGF, PI3K, AKT, p-AKT, NF-κBp65, the expression of p-NF-κBp65, STAT1, and PTGS2 are used to control the exacerbation of inflammation and alleviate the proliferation of synovial pannus, and at the same time play the role of cartilage protection to achieve the effect of treating RA., Conclusion: Through a network pharmacology approach and animal study, we predicted and validated the active compounds of SX and their potential targets for RA treatment. Low-molecular-weight (LMW) phthalate acid esters (PAEs) tend to enter the atmosphere, flying for several kilometers, so it is easy to endanger human health. This work is the first to use quantum chemistry calculations (Gaussian 16 program) and computational toxicology (ECOSAR, TEST, and Toxtree software) to comprehensively study the ozonolysis mechanism of six LMW PAEs (dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), dipropyl phthalate (DPP), diisopropyl phthalate (DIP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)) in the atmosphere and the toxicity of DMP (take DMP as an example) in the conversion process. The results show that the electron-donating effect of the ortho position of the LMW PAEs has the most obvious influence on the ozonolysis. We summarized the ozonation reaction law of LMW PAEs at the optimal reaction site. At 298 K, the law of initial ozonolysis total rate constant of the LMW PAEs is k DIP  > k DPP  > k DIBP  > k DMP  > k DEP  > k DBP , and the range is 9.56 × 10 -25  cm 3 molecule -1 s -1 - 1.47 × 10 -22  cm 3 molecule -1 s -1 . According to the results of toxicity assessment, the toxicity of products is lower than DMP for aquatic organisms after ozonolysis. But those products have mutagenicity, developmental toxicity, non-genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and corrosiveness to the skin. Despite research into the response of ammonia (NH 3 ) volatilization in farmland to various meteorological factors, the potential impact of future climate change on NH 3 volatilization is not fully understood. Based on a database consisting of 1063 observations across China, nonlinear NH 3  models considering crop type, meteorological, soil and management variables were established via four machine learning methods, including support vector machine, multi-layer perceptron, gradient boosting machine and random forest (RF). The RF model had the highest R 2 of 0.76 and the lowest RMSE of 0.82 kg NH 3 -N ha - 1 , showing the best simulation capability. Results of model importance indicated that NH 3 volatilization was mainly controlled by total input of N fertilizer, followed by meteorological factors, human managements and soil characteristics. The NH 3 emissions of China's cereal production (paddy rice, wheat and maize) in 2018 was estimated to be 3.3 Mt NH 3 -N. By 2050, NH 3 volatilization will increase by 23.1-32.0% under different climate change scenarios (Representative Concentration Pathways, RCPs), and climate change will have the greatest impact on NH 3 volatilization in the Yangtze river agro-region of China due to high warming effects. Ammonia (NH 3 ) volatilization is one of the main pathways of nitrogen loss from cropland, resulting not only in economic losses, but also environmental and human health impacts. The magnitude and timing of NH 3 emissions from cropland fertilizer application highly depends on agricultural practices, climate and soil factors, which previous studies have typically only considered at coarse spatio-temporal resolution. In this paper, we describe a first highly detailed empirical regression model for ammonia (ERMA) emissions based on 1443 field observations across China. This model is applied at county level by integrating data with unprecedented high spatio-temporal resolution of agricultural practices and climate and soil factors. Results showed that total NH 3 emissions from cropland fertilizer application amount to 4.3 Tg NH 3 yr -1 in 2017 with an overall NH 3 emission factor of 12%. Agricultural production for vegetables, maize and rice are the three largest emitters. Compared to previous studies, more emission hotspots were found in South China and temporally, emission peaks are estimated to occur three months earlier in the year, while the total amount of emissions is estimated to be close to that calculated by previous studies. A second emission peak is identified in October, most likely related to the fertilization of the second crop in autumn. Incorporating these new findings on NH 3 emission patterns will enable a better parametrization of models and hence improve the modelling of air quality and subsequent impacts on ecosystems through reactive N deposition., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Duck circovirus (DuCV) is widespread across the world and causes feather disorders in young ducks. It was identified as the causative pathogen of duck beak atrophy and dwarfism syndrome and primary sclerosing cholangitis. In this study, we aimed to establish a TaqMan-based real-time PCR assay to detect DuCV. The primers and probe were designed based on the conserved region of the DuCV Rep gene. After optimizing the reaction conditions, the minimum virus detection limit of the designed PCR technique was 39.4 copies/μL, 100 times that of conventional PCR (cPCR). No cross-reaction with six other common duck viruses was observed. The intra- and inter-assay variations were less than 1%. The detection rate of DuCV-positive clinical samples using TaqMan-based real-time PCR was higher than that using SYBR Green-based real-time PCR and cPCR. Collectively, these results showed that the established TaqMan-based real-time PCR detected DuCV with high sensitivity and specificity, and significant repeatability, making it suitable for clinical use. As one of the main components of combustion of tobacco products occurs (CARB), crotonaldehyde has an acute toxicity and widely exists in the atmosphere, which is harmful to human health. The removal efficiency of VOCs by ozonation can reach 80-90%. Based on the theory of quantum chemistry, the degradation mechanism, kinetics and toxicity of crotonaldehyde by ozonation in gas phase and heterogeneous phase were studied. Ozone was added to the olefins unsaturated double bond to form a five-membered ring primary ozonide, which was further fractured due to its unstable structure to form a Criegee intermediate and an aldehyde compound. The reaction rate constant of crotonaldehyde with ozone was 1.24 × 10 -17  cm 3 molecule -1 s -1 at 298 K and 1 atm, which was an order of magnitude higher than the experimental value. From toxicity assessment, it was found that the ozonation of crotonaldehyde is beneficial to the removal of toxicity. Mineral dust aerosol exists in the atmosphere in large quantities, and SiO 2 is the most abundant component. VOCs are transformed into particle state on their surface through homogeneous nucleation and heterogeneous nucleation. Referring to the crystal structure of SiO 2 , five hydroxylated silica oligomer cluster structures were simulated and the adsorption configurations of crotonaldehyde on their surface were simulated. The adsorption of crotonaldehyde on the surface of the clusters was achieved by forming hydrogen bonds and had good adsorption effects. The adsorption of hydroxylated silica oligomer clusters didn't change the ozonation mechanism of crotonldehyde, but had a certain effect on the reaction rate., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Canine bufavirus (CBuV) was first discovered in puppies in Italy in 2016, and subsequent studies have reported its possible relationship with acute enteritis. Currently, there is no specific and quantitative detection method for CBuV. This study examined the conserved NS1 gene and used a pair of specific primers to establish a direct SYBR Green I-based real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) method for the detection and quantification of CBuV. In the sensitivity experiment, the detection limit of SYBR Green I-based real-time qPCR was 4.676 × 10 1 copies/μL and that of conventional PCR (cPCR) was 4.676 × 10 3 copies/μL. Furthermore, the qPCR method did not detect other viruses in dogs, indicating good specificity. The intra-assay coefficient of variation was 0.07-0.55% and the inter-assay coefficient of variation was 0.03-0.11%, indicating good repeatability. In clinical sample testing, the detection rate of qPCR was 5.0% (6/120), higher than that of cPCR (2.5%, 3/120). In addition, the samples that tested CBuV-positive in this experiment were all from dogs with acute enteritis. Water quality regulation is an important ecosystem service function of soil. In this study, the mechanism by which soil regulates water quality was reviewed, and the effects of soil management on water quality were explored. A scientometrics analysis was also conducted to explore the research fields and hotspots of water quality regulation of soil in the past 5 years. This review found that the pollutants entering the soil can be mitigated by precipitation, adsorption and desorption, ion exchange, redox and metabolic decomposition. As an optimal substrate, soil in constructed wetlands has perfect performance in the adsorption and passivation of pollutants such as nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metals in water, and degradation of pesticides and emerging contaminants. Mangrove wetlands play an important role in coastal zone protection and coastal water quality restoration. However, the excessive application of agricultural chemicals causes soil overload, which leads to the occurrence of agricultural non-point source pollution. Under the dual pressures of climate change and food insecurity in the future, developing environmentally friendly and economically feasible sustainable soil management measures is crucial for maintaining the water purification function of soil by relying on the accurate quantification of soil function based on big data and modelling. This study aimed to analyze the application of ultrasound images of lung recruitment (LR) nursing treatment guided by positive-end expiratory pressure (PEEP) in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). An ultrasound image enhancement algorithm (UIEA) wavelet transform (WT) was constructed, and the soft threshold (ST) and adjacent region average (ARA) were introduced for simulation comparison. In addition, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and running time were undertaken as the evaluation indexes. The WT algorithm was applied to the ultrasound images of 85 ARDS patients before and after PEEP recruitment. The mean artery pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), and central venous pressure (CVP), peak inspiratory pressure (Ppeak), mean inspiratory pressure (Pmean), dynamic lung compliance (DLC), PCO 2 , and PaO 2 /FiO 2 of the patients were recorded before and after the LR. The results showed that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) (19.67 ± 3.15 dB) and PSNR (23.08 ± 2.08 dB) of the images enhanced by the WT algorithm were much higher than those of ST (13.88 ± 2.74 dB and 14.62 ± 1.76 dB, respectively) and ARA (14.96 ± 3.06 dB and 15.11 ± 1.94 dB, respectively), while the running time was in adverse ( P < 0.05); the HR and CVP of patients after LR nursing treatment were increased greatly, while the MAP was in the opposite case ( P < 0.05); after LR nursing treatment, Ppeak, Pmean, DLC, PCO 2 , and PaO 2 /FiO 2 of the patient were significantly greater than those before the LR, and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05). In short, the WT algorithm not only enhanced the quality of ultrasound images but also shortened the running time and improved the processing efficiency. Pyrethroid, a pesticide widely used worldwide, could mimic, block, or synergize the effects of endogenous hormones in humans or mammals after entering into the atmosphere and after being sprayed and applied in large quantities. This research aims to study the mechanism, kinetics, and eco-toxicity evaluation of the ozonolysis of permethrin (PER)-one of the typical pyrethroid (type I) pesticides. Existing experimental studies only predicted that ozonolysis of PER could generate a cycloperoxy analogue of PER (IM13-1-11), and the reaction mechanism has not yet been completed. To make up for the lack of experimental results, the 13 primary reaction pathways of PER and ozone, as well as the subsequent reactions of Criegee intermediates with small molecules such as NO x , CO x , SO 2 , and O 2 , have been studied to propose new reaction paths by quantum chemical calculations in this work. We calculated the total reaction rate constant of PER and ozone at 298 K and 1 atm based on the calculated thermodynamic data and the transition state theory (TST), which was compared with the experimental values to prove the reliability of our results. Based on the quantitative structure and activity relationship, we predicted the acute and chronic toxicity of PER and its products of ozonolysis to three representative organisms-fish, daphnia, and green algae to avoid animal experiments. The results show that ozonolysis products of PER are still extremely harmful to the environment and should be taken seriously, although the products have less toxicity than PER.

Since both feline parvovirus (FPV) and feline bocavirus (FBoV) can cause diarrhea in cats, it is difficult to distinguish them clinically. This study aimed to develop a SYBR Green I-based duplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for distinguishing FPV and FBoV-1 on the basis of the melting temperature of the PCR product. A total of 132 fecal samples from different domestic and feral cats were collected, and the results of SYBR Green I-based duplex real-time PCR assay were compared with those of the traditional PCR assay for a comprehensive evaluation. The melting temperatures were found to be 86 °C and 77.5 °C for FBoV-1 and FPV, respectively, and no specific melting peaks for other non-targeted feline viruses were observed. The data obtained from this assay had a good linear relationship; the detection limits of FPV and FBoV-1 were 2.907 × 10 1 copies/μL and 3.836 × 10 1 copies/μL, respectively. In addition, the experiment exhibited high reproducibility. The positive detection rates of the SYBR Green I-based duplex real-time PCR assay for FPV and FBoV-1 were 16.67% (22/132) and 6.82% (9/132), respectively, and the positive detection rate for co-infection with FPV and FBoV-1 was 3.03% (4/132). This result was much more sensitive than that of the traditional PCR method. The research on the mechanisms and kinetics of radical oxidation in peracetic acid-based advanced oxidation processes was relatively limited. In this work, HO • and organic radicals mediated reactions of acetaminophen (ACT) were investigated, and the reactivities of important organic radicals (CH 3 COO • and CH 3 COOO • ) were calculated. The results showed that initiated reaction rate constants of ACT are in the order: CH 3 COO • (5.44 × 10 10 M -1 s -1 ) > HO • (7.07 × 10 9 M -1 s -1 ) > CH 3 O • ( 1.57 × 10 7 M -1 s -1 ) > CH 3 COOO • (3.65 × 10 5 M -1 s -1 ) >> • CH 3 (5.17 × 10 2 M -1 s -1 ) > CH 3 C • O (1.17 × 10 2 M -1 s -1 ) > CH 3 OO • (11.80 M -1 s -1 ). HO • , CH 3 COO • and CH 3 COOO • play important roles in ACT degradation. CH 3 COO • is another important radical in the hydroxylation of aromatic compounds in addition to HO • . Reaction rate constants of CH 3 COO • and aromatic compounds are 1.40 × 10 6 - 6.25 × 10 10 M -1 s -1 with addition as the dominant pathway. CH 3 COOO • has high reactivity to phenolate and aniline only among the studied aromatic compounds, and it was more selective than CH 3 COO • . Bimetallic gradient alloys have attracted research attention recently due to their potential applications in the aerospace and automobile industries. In this study, Al-20Si/7075 bimetallic gradient alloys were successfully manufactured by co-spray forming and the roll process. We investigated the thermal expansion behavior of the gradient alloy. It was found that the coefficients of thermal expansion increased with silicon content and increased temperature, reaching the highest point at 573 K, after which they decreased on account of the relaxation of residual thermal stress and the silicon desolvation from the supersaturated aluminum phase. The measured thermal expansion coefficient can be roughly predicted through the traditional theoretical models. Our results revealed the thermal expansion behavior of Al-20Si/7075 bimetallic gradient alloys and would improve the development of new type aluminum-silicon alloy for electronic packaging.

Recently, a novel duck-origin goose parvovirus (N-GPV) was reported to cause short beak and dwarfism syndrome in ducks. In this study, we performed complete genome sequencing and analyzed three different duck-derived parvoviruses that infected different breeds of ducks. Phylogenetic trees based on gene sequences indicated that they were classical goose parvovirus (C-GPV), Muscovy duck parvovirus (MDPV), and N-GPV. Furthermore, potential recombination events were found. These results improve our understanding of the diversity of duck-derived parvoviruses in Anhui province, eastern China, and provide a reference for the prevention of associated diseases.

With increasing nitrogen (N) deposition, soil nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emission is expected to increase, causing positive feedback to global warming. However, the substrates of soil N 2 O emission, especially their responses to N addition, are still unclear. Here, we conducted an in situ 15 N tracing experiment to study the substrates of N 2 O (i.e., ammonium-derived, nitrate-derived and organic N-derived N 2 O emission) under N addition treatment in a temperate forest in northeast China. Nitrate derived N 2 O through denitrification contributed most to the total N 2 O emission, pointing to the importance of denitrification under ambient N deposition. NH 4 NO 3 addition of 50 kg N ha -1  yr -1 significantly increased organic N derived N 2 O on the 6th day after N addition, which suggests that heterotrophic nitrification may be the dominating process with higher N deposition rate. However, because soil pH and the examined functional genes did not change after N addition, future studies should be carried out to understand if the increase of heterotrophic nitrification is transient. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on hydroxyl radicals (•OH) are the most important technologies for the removal of bio-recalcitrant organic pollutants in industrial wastewater. The pH is one of the crucial environmental parameters that affect the removal efficiency of pollutants in AOPs. In this work, the mechanistic and kinetic insights into the roles of pH on the hydroxylation of five aromatic acids and bases in UV/H 2 O 2 process have been investigated using theoretical calculation methods. Results show that the reactivity of •OH towards the twelve ionic/neutral species is positively correlated with electron-donating effect of substituents, which contributes to the positively pH-dependent reactivity of aromatic acids and bases towards •OH. The hydroxylation apparent rate constants (k app , M -1 s -1 ) (at 298 K) increase as the pH values increase from about 1 to 10, but they decrease as the pH values increase from about 10 to 14. However, the best pH values for degradation are not around 10 because the [•OH] decreases continuously with the increasing pH values from 3 to 9.5. Combining the factors of k app and [•OH], the best degradation pH values are around 5.5~7.5 for p-hydroxybenzoic acid, p-aminophenol, aniline and benzoic acid, 3.0~7.5 for phenol and 5.5~7.5 for mixed pollutants of these aromatic acids/bases in UV/H 2 O 2 process. Moreover, a significant number of hydroxylation by-products are more toxic or harmful to aquatic organisms and rat (oral) than their parental pollutants. Background: Diabetes has significant effects on bone metabolism. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can cause osteoporotic fracture. However, it remains challenging to diagnose osteoporosis in type 2 diabetes by bone mineral density which lacks regular changes. Seen another way, osteoporosis can be ascribed to the imbalance of bone metabolism, which is closely related to diabetes as well., Methods: Here, to assist clinicians in diagnosing osteoporosis in type 2 diabetes, an efficient and simple SVM (support vector machine) model was established based on different combinations of biochemical indexes, which were collected from patients who did the test of bone turn-over markers (BTMs) from January 2016 to March 2018 in the department of endocrine, Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University. The classification was done based on a software package of machine learning in Python. Aromatic compounds (ACs) give a substantial contribution to the anthropogenic emissions of volatile organic compounds. Nitrate radicals (NO 3 ) are significant oxidants in the lower troposphere during nighttime, with concentrations of (2-20) × 10 8 molecules cm -3 . In this study, the tropospheric gas and liquid phase reactions of ACs with nitrate radical are investigated using theoretical computational methods, which can give a deep insight into the reaction mechanisms and kinetics. Results show that the reactivity of ACs with nitrate radicals decreases as the electron donating characteristics of the functional group on the ACs decrease, as ΔG ≠ of the reaction with NO 3 increasing from -1.17 to 17.84 kcal mol -1 . The reaction of NO 3 towards ACs in the aqueous phase is more preferable, with the atmospheric lifetime 0.07-1281 min.
