Post-space disinfectants methylene blue loaded with silver (Ag) and Quartz nanoparticles (NPs) and MB alone activated by photodynamic therapy (PDT) on the survival of Enterococcus faecalis, smear layer (SL) removal efficacy, and extrusion bond strength (EBS) of fiber posts to canal dentin. Hundred mandibular premolars underwent root canal treatment using the rotary ProTaper system. The canals were obturated and post-space was prepared up to a length of 8 mm, maintaining a 5 mm seal. To assess antibacterial efficacy E. faecalis were inoculated in the canal (n = 20). The samples were then randomly allocated into four groups according to the canal disinfectant used to sterilize the canals. Group 1: 2.5% NaOCl+17% EDTA, Group 2: MB-PDT, Group 3: MB@QP-PDT, and Group 4: MB@AgNP-PDT (n = 25). SEM analysis was conducted on five samples from each disinfectant group to assess the removal of the SL. Survival rates were calculated (n = 5 from each group). Glass fiber post (GFP) was cemented to the root dentin of the remaining samples followed by artificial aging. Sectioning of the specimens was performed in all three-thirds of the canals. PBS was assessed followed by failure evaluation. ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used to compare the E. faecalis survival rate and PBS of fiber post among different investigated groups. Group 4 (MB@AgNP-PDT) treated canals exhibited the minimum survival rate (0.30 ± 0.04 CFU/mL) of E. faecalis and maximum PBS. However, the highest survival rate and minimum bond strength of GFP were observed in Group 1 (NaOCl+17% EDTA) and Group 2 (MB-PDT) treated teeth respectively. The highest SL removal was recorded in the coronal section of the samples of Group-4 disinfected with MB@AgNP-PDT. The lowest removal of SL was recorded in Group 2 samples sterilized with MB-PDT at apical one-third. Silver nanoparticles when utilized as nano-carriers to enhance the efficiency of MB activated by PDT, have been shown to exhibit the highest antimicrobial potency, improved capacity for SL removal and improved PBS., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

This study evaluated the influence of phosphoric acid and primer on enamel bonding performance using Panavia V5. Ground bovine enamels were assigned: using K-etchant syringe and Tooth Primer (CT), using K-etchant syringe (PA), using Tooth Primer (TP), neither K-etchant syringe nor Tooth Primer was used (NC). The micro-tensile bond strength values of CT and PA were significantly higher than TP. After thermal cycling, the values were higher in CT and PA. In the leakage test, line-shaped signal pattern at the adhesive interface was detected in NC, and the signal was partially detected in PA and TP. Observation of the adhesive interface after acid and base challenge confirmed tooth-like structures in groups except NC. Large spaces were observed between the enamel and cement in NC. Limited in this study, the lack of application of phosphoric acid or Tooth Primer may affect the enamel bonding performance.

Recently, the structural optimization of natural bioactive products has been one of the important ways to discover new pesticide candidates. Based on osthole as a lead compound, herein, a series of new 2-isopropanol-4-methoxy-7-alkyl/aryloxycarbonyl-( E )-vinyl-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives were synthesized. Steric configurations of compounds 3 , 4 , 6 , 9 , 11 , 29 , and 31 were confirmed by X-ray monocrystallography. Notably, an efficient method for preparation of 2-isopropanol-2,3-dihydrobenzofurans from osthole by the epoxidation and rearrangement reactions was developed. Against Plutella xylostella Linnaeus, compound 31 ( R = CH 2 CH 2 Ph; LC 50 : 0.759 mg/mL) displayed a 1.9-fold insecticidal activity compared to that of osthole; against Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisduval, compound 34 ( R = (CH 2 ) 9 CH 3 ; LC 50 : 0.401 mg/mL) exhibited a 3.3-fold acaricidal activity and good control effects compared to those of osthole. By the scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging method, it was demonstrated that the acaricidal activity of compound 34 may be related to the damage of the cuticle layer crest of T. cinnabarinus . Compound 34 could be further studied as a potential acaricide.

Spirulina platensis (SP) provides humans with proteins and natural pigments. The effects of micro/nanoplastics (MNPs) on SP are of great interest. We focused on the effects of high concentrations (100-300 mg/L) of polystyrene MNPs on SP for 50 days. MNPs caused growth retardation, a decrease in peak concentration of algal cells, the emergence of surface cracks and pores, and stimulated the secretion of extracellular polymeric substances that promoted heterogeneous aggregation of SP. During the first 35 days, there were significant differences between the exposure groups in the phycocyanin concentration, yield and purity and the ratio of phycocyanin to phycobiliprotein, with the higher MNPs concentration resulting in lower values, whereas on day 50 there were no statistically significant differences in any of these metrics between the control or exposure groups. As tailpipe emissions have decreased, there is a growing focus on the relative contribution of non-exhaust sources of vehicle emissions. Addressing these emissions is key to better evaluating and reducing vehicles' impact on air quality and public health. Tailoring solutions for different non-exhaust sources, including brake emissions, is essential for achieving sustainable mobility. Studying emissions from vehicles in real-world scenarios provides a better understanding of their environmental impact compared to laboratory testing alone. This study presents findings on the direct measurement of brake particles and the characterization of this source of particulate matter in real-world conditions using a mobile laboratory. In situ measurements of particle concentration and size distribution showed good agreement with previous laboratory studies, indicating the suitability of the approach to investigate break particle emissions during real-world operation. The study demonstrates that particle size distributions can vary based on the temperature of the brake disk, which is influenced by the initial braking speed, with significant variations observed between speeds of 60, 80, 100, and 120 km/h. Particles with sizes between 6 and 523 nm were released into the air from the brake system, although it is likely that larger particles were also emitted but not captured due to the upper detection limit of the Engine Exhaust Particle Sizer. During harsh braking events, such as decelerations of 4.2 m/s 2 from 120 km/h, a concentration of up 10 6 (#/cm 3 ) was measured for particles under 8 nm. Moreover, scanning electron microscope analysis revealed that nanoparticles are present in the form of agglomerates, whose shape can change depending on the formation process. Background: This study aims to compare design, phase transformation behavior, and torsional resistance of the ProGlider (PG) and ProTaper ultimate slider (PUS) and to compare the performance of two files in the glide-path preparation of a double-curved artificial canal., Methods: Scanning electron microscopy, micro-computed tomography, and differential scanning calorimetry were used to characterize the samples. A torsional resistance test was performed to obtain ultimate strength and distortion angle. Simulated glide-path preparation was conducted with a double-curved resin canal, and both PG and PUS were operated on by 300 and 400 rpms. Maximum screw-in force, torque generated during canal shaping, number of pecking strokes to reach the apex were compared between groups. After canal shaping centering ratio and alteration of files were assessed. Statistical analyses were performed using the Mann-Whitney U test, and the Kruskal-Wallis test with Bonferroni correction. A p value less than 0.05 was considered significant., Results: While the PG had a square cross-section, the PUS had variable square and rhomboid cross-sections and alternating cutting-edge. PG and PUS have austenitic transformation starting and finishing temperatures of 24-25℃, and 57-59℃, respectively. Ultimate strength of PUS are superior to that of PG, whereas the distortion angle of PG is greater than that of PUS (p < 0.05). The maximum screw-in force and clockwise torque generated during glide-path preparation were highest in the PUS group rotated at 300 rpm (p < 0.05). Shaping with the PG at 300 rpm and shaping with the PUS at 400 rpm exhibited comparable maximum screw-in forces. There were no significant differences in the number of pecking strokes to reach the apex and centering ability among groups shaped with PG and PUS at both rotation speeds. PG shaped at 400 rpm demonstrated severe alteration on its surface, while PUS shaped at 300 and 400 rpms exhibited comparable surface alterations., Conclusions: PG has a constant square cross-section, while PUS has a variable cross-section and alternating cutting-edge. Using PUS at recommended speed of 400 rpm ensures safe use with minimal screw-in force and surface alteration. To examine ultrastructural changes in the trabecular meshwork (TM) in patients with primary and secondary glaucoma using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This was a qualitative descriptive hospital-based study on the ultrastructure of the TM. Pure TM samples were collected after microincisional trabeculectomy from 26 patients with primary or secondary glaucoma and 10 control samples from eye bank donor corneas. SEM was used to analyze structural changes in the TM beams, corneoscleral meshwork (CSM), and juxtacanalicular (JCT) regions. Morphological features were compared between groups and correlated with histopathological findings. SEM revealed flattened and broadened TM beams in the JCT, resembling controls, often with a dumbbell configuration. Histopathological examination (HPE) and SEM showed rounded TM beams with considerable thinning, especially in primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG), compared to primary open-angle (POAG) and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (XFG). Maximum thinning in all primary glaucoma occurred in the CSM region, with minimal changes in the JCT region despite a reduction in cellularity in both regions. In steroid glaucoma, amorphous, glistening material was found on the TM beams in the JCT and CSM. XFG eyes displayed vesicular bodies adjacent to fibrillar material scattered diffusely over the TM beams, particularly in the CSM, differing from the platelet clumps seen in regular blood clots. TM beam thinning in primary glaucoma primarily affects the CSM region, sparing the JCT region. Amorphous deposits or vesicular bodies, seen only in steroid-induced glaucoma and XFG, suggest different mechanisms of TM damage in these glaucoma types., Competing Interests: Declarations. Questioned document examination is one of the most challenging tasks in the field of forensic science. Examining the document without destroying its integrity is difficult in such cases. Microscopic examination is a noble and mostly non-destructive approach in document examination. It enables the examiner to visualize the evidence in the document, which would have been otherwise difficult with unaided eyes. The purpose of the study was to establish the importance of microscopic examination in document examination. A critical review of 60 years, from 1963 to 2023, of various research papers from different journals has been conducted. Applications of various microscopes including stereo microscopes, digital microscopes, scanning electron microscopes (SEM), and atomic force microscopes (AFM) were reviewed. Compared to the basic examinations performed before the year 2000, there was a remarkable evolution involving complex examinations with more precise results after the year 2000. Microscopy helped solve almost all kinds of problems involved in document examination. Among all microscopes, the stereo microscope was found to be a prominent tool in document laboratories. Certain limitations were also listed for microscopic examination over spectroscopic methods. Halide perovskites are hailed as semiconductors of the 21 st century. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD), a solvent-free method, allows versatility in the growth of thin films of 3- and 2D organic-inorganic halide perovskites. Using CVD grown methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI 3 ) films as a prototype, the impact of electron beam dosage under cryogenic conditions is evaluated. With 5 kV accelerating voltage, the dosage is varied between 50 and 50000 µC cm -2 . An optimum dosage of 35 000 µC cm -2 results in a significant blue shift and enhancement of the photoluminescence peak. Concomitantly, a strong increase in the photocurrent is observed. A similar electron beam treatment on chlorine incorporated MAPbI 3 , where chlorine is known to passivate defects, shows a blue shift in the photoluminescence without improving the photocurrent properties. Low electron beam dosage under cryogenic conditions is found to damage CVD grown 2D phenylethlyammoinum lead iodide films. Pollen grains, in addition to their allergenic properties, play an important role in the temporal and spatial analysis of forensic events and are considered secondary trace evidence. Pollen analysis requires expertise in microscopy techniques and palynology. This study aims to determine the persistence of pollen on common used fabric types and how much of it can be removed through washing. The structural properties of the tested pollen grains and fabrics were analyzed using light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, the study aims to provide data to help individuals sensitive to allergenic pollens in selecting suitable fabrics. Pollen grains from Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Chenopodium album, Corylus avellana, Parietaria officinalis, and Platanus × acerifolia, which had not been tested in previous studies, were examined on five different fabric types commonly used in the textile industry: denim, artificial leather, lacoste cotton fabric, linen, and printed cotton fabric. It was determined that pollen adhesion capacity and persistence varied based on the fabric's structure and first wash was the most effective for removing pollen from fabrics. Removal of pollen grains through washing from linen, printed cotton fabric, and lacoste cotton fabric were found to be easier from denim and artificial leather. The study revealed that pollen could still be detected on fabrics even after six washes. Objective: To compare the effect of syringe irrigation technique, passive ultrasonic activation technique, EDDY activation technique and Er,Cr,YSGG laser activation technique on smear layer removal in root canals in vitro ., Methods: Forty mandibular first premolars with single canal were collected from patients in Qingdao Stomatological Hospital affiliated to Qingdao University. After root canal preparation with ProTaper Universal to F3, they were randomly divided into four groups (n = 10) according to different activation irrigations for the final washing: syringe irrigation (SI), passive ultrasonic activation (PU), EDDY activation (EDDY) and Er,Cr,YSGG laser activation (YSGG). Finally, all the crowns of them were cut off and the root length was trimmed to 15 mm. The roots were split longitudinally and observed with scanning electron microscope (SEM) for assessment of smear layer removal in different parts of the root canal., Results: All groups showed similar effects for cleaning the root canals in the coronal thirds (P > 0.05). For cleaning the root canals in the middle thirds, PU group, EDDY group and YSGG group showed similar effects, (P> 0.05). They were more effective than SI group (P < 0.05). For cleaning the root canals in the apical thirds, PU group and EDDY group showed similar effects (P> 0.05). They were more effective than SI group (P < 0.05). YSGG group was more effective than other groups (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Er,Cr,YSGG laser activation technique can remove smear layer of root canals effectively. Gamma irradiation was applied to the tachyzoites Toxoplasma gondii virulent strain at doses of 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 KGy. Radiation's effects were assessed both in vivo and in vitro. In vitro, the modest dosage of radiation, 0.25 KGy, showed 97% tachyzoites viability with only slight surface abnormalities and a normal crescent form using a scanning electron microscope. Protein analysis by SDS-PAGE demonstrated that while higher doses of radiation altered the protein banding profile, the 0.25 KGy irradiated tachyzoites showed no significant changes compared to the control (non-irradiated tachyzoites). While, tachyzoites exposed to the higher dose of irradiation (1, 1.5 and 2 KGy) resulted in the appearance of a new protein band as the molecular weights detected were 60, 30 and 10 kDa for antigens prepared from tachyzoites exposed to 1 kDa, and 1.5 and 60, 28 kDa for antigen prepared from tachyzoites exposed to 2 KGy. The immunogenicity of the tachyzoites exposed to radiation did not reveal any significant change in comparison with no irradiated tachyzoites when tested by ELISA using sheep-infected sera. A study conducted in vivo evaluated the infectivity of irradiation tachyzoites by inoculating mice with a 2500 tachyzoites virulent strain/mouse. There are six groups of mice, each with twelve animals, for the six doses of radiation. Mice harbouring irradiation tachyzoites remained viable until 40 days post-inoculation. On the other hand, the mice of control group had a mean survival time of 6.5 ± 0.22 days, and none of them survived past 7 dpi. Comparing the attenuated T. gondii tachyzoites at 0.25 KGy to the control group and other groups injected with irradiated tachyzoites, the results showed statistically significant increases in total IgG. Compared to other irradiation groups, the group injected with 0.25 KGy irradiated tachyzoites had a considerably higher level of IFN γ and IL17 (p < 0.000001). The groups which received 0.25 and 0.5 KGy irradiated tachyzoites as an injection showed no discernible variation in their higher levels of IL12. The findings imply that gamma irradiation was successful in reducing the pathogenicity of the T. gondii virulent strain while preserving the potential of the irradiated tachyzoites to induce an immunological reaction. Invasive fungal infections including invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) generally have a poor prognosis, because the fungi spread throughout various organs. Therefore, it is important to accurately identify the fungal species for treatment. In this article, we present the results of pathological and molecular morphological analyses that were performed to elucidate the cause of respiratory failure in a patient who died despite suspicion of IPA and treatment with micafungin (MCFG). Pathological analysis revealed the existence of cystic and linear fungi in lung tissue. The fungi were identified as Aspergillus fumigatus (A. fumigatus) by partial sequencing of genomic DNA. Correlative light microscopy and electron microscopy (CLEM) analysis confirmed that fungi observed with light microscopy can also be observed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections. SEM revealed an atypical ultrastructure of the fungi including inhomogeneous widths, rough surfaces, and numerous cyst-like structures of various sizes. The fungi showed several morphological changes of cultured A. fumigatus treated with MCFG that were previously reported. Our results indicate that integrated analysis of ultrastructural observation by SEM and DNA sequencing may be an effective tool for analyzing fungi that are difficult to identify by conventional pathological analysis., (© 2024. Cotesia gregalis Yang et Wei (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is a gregarious koinobiont endoparasitic wasp attacking the larvae of fall webworm, Hyphantria cunea, an important invasive insect pest in China. To better understand the parasitic wasps' mating and parasitic behaviors, we examined the morphology of the antennae of adult C. gregalis, as well as the type, number, and distribution of antennal sensilla, via scanning electron microscopy. The antennae of female and male C. gregalis are filiform and comprise a scape, pedicel, and 16 flagellomeres. The female antennae are significantly shorter than those of male. A total of nine morphological types of antennal sensilla (mechanoreceptor and chemoreceptor) are presented in both sexes, including four mechanoreceptors (sensilla chaetica [two subtypes], sensilla trichodea and Böhm bristles); five chemoreceptors (sensilla basiconica [two subtypes], sensilla placodea, sensilla styloconica, and sensilla coelocapitula). There is no difference in the type and distribution of antennal sensilla between males and females, but the number and length of some antennal sensilla show sexual dimorphism. The functional morphology of the sensilla of C. gregalis is discussed by comparison with other parasitic wasps. These findings provide foundation for further research on the chemical communication and host localization mechanisms of C. gregalis. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: The first report of morphology and distribution pattern of the antennal sensilla in C. gregalis is discussed. A total of seven main types and nine antennal sensilla subtypes are observed in male and female C. gregalis. Due to the long-term overuse of chemical pesticides, serious resistance and negative problems on human health and the ecological environment have appeared. To develop plant-product-based pesticide candidates, a series of novel andrographolide ester derivatives containing the isoxazoline skeleton were prepared at the C-3 position. Their pesticidal activities were evaluated against three typical pests such as Mythimna separata Walker, Aphis citricola Van der Goot, and Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisduval. Against M . separata , compounds Ik , IIf , IIg , and IIk showed 1.6-1.8 times insecticidal activity compared to that of andrographolide; against A . citricola , compounds 6 , Ih , and IIh possessed 3.7-3.9-fold aphicidal activity compared to that of andrographolide; against T . cinnabarinus , compounds Ib , Ig , and IIk exhibited 7.4-9.1-fold promising acaricidal activity compared to that of andrographolide. It is worth mentioning that effects of IIk on morphological changes of the treated mite cuticle layer structures were observed by the scanning electron microscope imaging method. Compound IIk can be studied as a pesticidal lead for further structural modification.

Quetiapine fumarateis a typical antipsychotic with a short half-life of 6 h and is administered multiple times daily. In this study, a copolymer for controlled delivery of quetiapine fumarate will be developed. In order to prevent side effects and improve patient compliance, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose K15M (HPMC K15M) was included in the formulation of the quetiapine fumarate oral sustained-release tablets at a concentration of 10-30%. A series of analytical methods were used to determine the characteristics of the prepared hydrogels, including Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, Differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and Scanning electron microscope. At two different pH values (1.2 and 6.8), swelling and release studies were conducted. A variety of release kinetic models was used to study drug release mechanisms. A non-Fickian diffusion mechanism released hydrogels prepared from quetiapine fumarate. It was found that swelling was increased by increasing the amount of HPMC K15M. Compared to the other batches (10-20%), the produced tablets with 30% HPMC K15M content had a better release profile after 20 h of dissolution. This study was conducted to examine the pathogenesis of gill degeneration in the Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegelii, infested with the monogenean ectoparasite, Microcotyle sebastis. We collected 30 Korean rockfish from a fish farm in Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, and examined them with light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and histopathology, in March 2018. The monogenean trematode, M. sebastis, was detected in 27 Korean rockfish (90%), with the intensity of infection being 31.7 per fish. The characteristic surface ultrastructures such as tegument with transverse striations, genital atrium, genital pore, and opisthaptor with numerous clamps were observed. The worms were firmly attached to the gill lamellae using clamps from the opisthaptor, causing gill damage and degeneration. The distal part of the lamellae was ruptured by the sclerites of the clamps. The histopathological examination revealed epithelial hypertrophy, hyperplasia, and occasionally fusion of the lamellae. These ultrastructural and histopathological findings provide some understanding of the pathogenesis of gill degeneration in the Korean rockfish infested with M. sebastis.

Background This study aimed to assess the dentinal tubule penetration of bioceramic sealer (DTPB) using EndoSequence® Bioceramic Sealer HiFlow™ (BCHF). Three obturation techniques were compared, namely, single cone (SC), cold lateral condensation (CLC), and warm vertical compaction (WVC) using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Methodology A total of 45 intact mandibular premolars were decoronated, instrumented, and irrigated with uniform procedures. Subsequently, they were randomly assigned into the following three groups according to the gutta-percha and BCHF obturation technique: Group 1 (n = 15) with the SC technique, Group 2 (n = 15) with the CLC technique, and Group 3 (n = 15) with the WVC technique. Afterward, the roots were sectioned at three levels (coronal, middle, apical) from the apex and examined using SEM to determine the maximum distance of DTPB in µm. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) using the one-way analysis of variance test and Bonferroni tests. The level of significance was set at α of 0.05. Results Significant differences were observed in the maximum distances of DTPB values among the three levels across groups (p < 0.05). Both the WVC and CLC groups exhibited higher values compared to the SC group (p < 0.05). Specifically, the DTPB maximum distance at the apical third was significantly higher in the CLC group than in the WVC and SC groups (p < 0.05). Additionally, the coronal third in each group demonstrated significant DTPB maximum distance (p < 0.05) compared to the other groups. Objectives: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the cyclic fatigue strength of clockwise cutting rotary endodontic instruments when subjected to two different kinematics: continuous clockwise rotation and clockwise reciprocation movement under optimum torque reverse (OTR) motion. Methods: New ProTaper Next X1 (n = 20) and X2 (n = 20) instruments were randomly divided into two subgroups (n = 10) based on kinematics (continuous rotation or OTR). The specimens were tested using a custom-made device with a non-tapered stainless-steel artificial canal measuring 19 mm in length, featuring a 6 mm radius and an 86-degree curvature. All instruments were tested with a lubricant at room temperature until a fracture occurred. The time to fracture and the length of the separated fragment were recorded. Subsequently, the fractured instruments were inspected under a scanning electron microscope for signs of cyclic fatigue failure, plastic deformation, and/or crack propagation. The subgroup comparisons for time to fracture and instrument length were performed using the independent samples t -test, with the level of statistical significance set at 0.05. Results: When using OTR movement, the ProTaper Next X1 increased the time to fracture from 52.9 to 125.8 s ( p < 0.001), while the ProTaper Next X2 increased from 45.4 to 66.0 s ( p < 0.001). No subgroup exhibited plastic deformations, but both showed dimpling marks indicative of cyclic fatigue as the primary mode of failure. Additionally, OTR movement resulted in more metal alloy microcracks. Conclusions: The use of OTR motion extended the lifespan of the tested instruments and resulted in a higher number of metal microcracks. This suggests that OTR motion helped to distribute the mechanical stress more evenly across the instrument, thereby relieving localized tension. As a result, it delayed the formation of a single catastrophic crack, enhancing the overall performance of the instruments during the experimental procedures.

The study was focused on the anatomical characteristics of the Egyptian long-eared hedgehog's oral cavity by using gross and scanning electron microscopic examinations. The upper lip had an elongated T-shaped snout-like structure. The hard palate had a triangular rostral part (which had a semicircular area and a caudal ridged area with the first 3 or 4 ridges) and a caudal part (which contained seven or eight slightly oblique ridges with raphae). The diamond-incisive papilla is flanked on both sides by a groove and a fissure. The hard palate surface had glandular openings and a microplicae system. The uneven, soft palate's surface had multiple grooves and folds with 12-16 Gemmal papillae. The Gemmal papillary surface had three to four taste pores with microplicae and glandular openings. The dorsal lingual surface had six filiform subtypes: pointed (on the tip, rostral border, and median apical region), triangular (on the lateral apical and circumvallate regions), bifurcated (on the median tip only), leaf-like (on the median body region), branched (on the lateral root region), and small pointed papillae (on the median root). There were two fungiform subtypes: ovals (on the rostral border and lateral region) and rounds (on the median apical region and body). The caudal root part had a triangular arrangement of three circumvallate papillae. This study helps in managing waste glass and greening the environment by incorporating laboratory waste glass into mortar production to make an eco-friendly shielding material against gamma rays. The efficiency of using waste glass powder as a cement replacement or addition in mortar production was studied by using two waste glass sizes: micro glass (particle size range from 10.09 to 24.73 μm) and nano glass (particle size range from 10.57 to 26.42 nm) to design different mortar specimens with varying percentages of fine glass powder from 0 to 30%. Compressive strength and flexure strength were evaluated to determine mechanical properties. The results indicated that adding WGP to mortar positively affects the characteristics of cementitious composites. The linear and mass attenuation coefficients of the samples were experimentally determined using a NaI detector and various radioactive sources (Am-241, Ba-133, Eu-152, Cs-137, and Co-60) with gamma energies ranging from 59.53 to 1332 keV. The obtained coefficients were then compared to the theoretical values of the composites using XCOM software to verify their accuracy. Additionally, the half-value layer, tenth-value layer, mean free path, and effective atomic number were computed. Background: This study aimed to compare the marginal adaptation of a single customized gutta percha cone with calcium silicate-based sealer versus mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine apical plugs in simulated immature permanent teeth., Methods: Thirty-nine extracted human maxillary anterior teeth were selected, prepared to simulate immature permanent teeth with an apical diameter 1.1 mm, placed in moist foam and divided into three groups. Group 1: Obturation with a single customized gutta percha cone and calcium silicate sealer. Group 2: MTA apical plug. Group 3: Biodentine apical plug. After incubation, teeth were horizontally sectioned at 1 mm and 3 mm from the apex and marginal adaptation was evaluated using scanning electron microscope (SEM)., Results: Biodentine showed the least mean gap size at both 1 and 3 mm from the apex with no statistically significant differences compared to MTA (p > 0.05). The single customized cone with calcium silicate based sealer showed the greatest mean gap size at both 1 and 3 mm from the apex with a statistically significant difference compared to the other groups (p < 0.001)., Conclusion: Biodentine and MTA apical plugs provide a significantly better marginal adaptation to the dentinal walls than a single customized gutta percha cone with calcium silicate based sealer in simulated immature permanent teeth., (© 2024. Studying scute and fin morphology are advantageous approaches for phylogenetic identification and provide information on biological linkages and evolutionary history that are essential for deciphering the fossil record. Despite this, no prior research has precisely characterized the histological structures of scutes in the common pleco. Therefore, this research investigated the microstructure and organization of bone tissue within the dermal skeleton, including the scutes and fins, in the common pleco, using light microscopy, stereomicroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The dermal scutes were organized in a pentagonal shape with denticular coverage and were obliquely aligned with the caudal portion pointing dorsally. The dermal scutes consisted of three distinct portions: the central, preterminal, and terminal portions. Each portion comprised three layers: a superficial bony plate, a basal bony plate, and a mid-plate. Both the superficial and basal bony plates were composed of lamellar bone and lamellar zonal bone, whilst the mid-plate consisted of secondary osteons and woven bone. In the terminal portion, the superficial and basal bony plates became thinner. The pectoral fin consists of spines and rays composed of lepidotrichium (two symmetrical hemi-rays). The spine contained centrifugal and centripetal lamellar and trabecular bones. A centripetal fibrous bone was implanted between the lamellar bones. Besides being oriented in a V shape, the hemi-rays were also composed of thin centrifugal and centripetal lamellar bones and trabecular bones. A fibrous bone was identified between the centrifugal and centripetal bones. Efficient separation of actinide elements from molten salts employed in pyroprocessing can significantly diminish the radiological hazards and oversight duration associated with spent nuclear fuel storage. The lanthanum content of waste salts is very high compared to actinides, leading to the co-electrodeposition of both groups of elements for conventional electrochemical techniques. Due to the difficulty in separating the two groups of elements, the feasibility of the density-based separation using liquid bismuth and intermetallics was explored. Hafnium was used as a stand-in for actinide elements with physical properties mirroring those of actinide-laden Bi-Hf intermetallics. Conversely, cerium was chosen to represent lanthanides. This study delved into the formation and spatial distribution of bismuth intermetallics under varying concentration ratios and cooling durations. Comprehensive characterization was achieved using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectrometry. The analysis showed that Bi-Ce particles were formed and distributed in the upper layer of the Bi ingot, and Bi-(Ce, Hf) particles containing both Ce and Hf in the lower layer. The findings underscore the viability of density-based separation while highlighting the intricacies related to intermetallic coprecipitation. For a plastic syringe, a stopper at the end of plunger is usually made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS, and co-ingredients). To reduce friction and prevent leakage between the stopper and barrel, short chain polymer of liquid PDMS is also used as lubricant. Consequently, an injection process can release solid PDMS debris from the stopper and barrel, and liquid PDMS droplets from the lubricant, both of which are confirmed herein as solid and liquid micro(nano)plastics. From molecular spectrum perspective to directly visualise those micro(nano)plastics, Raman imaging was employed to analyse hundreds-to-thousands of spectra (hyper spectrum or hyperspectral matrix) and significantly enhance signal-to-noise ratio. From morphology perspective to provide high resolution of image, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was engaged to cross-check with Raman images and increase assignment / quantification certainty. The weak Raman imaging signal of nanoplastics was extracted using image deconvolution algorithm to remove the background noise and average the signal variation. To increase the result's representativeness and avoid quantification bias, multiple syringes were tested and multiple areas were randomly scanned toward statistical results. It was estimated that thousands of microplastics and millions of nanoplastics of solid/liquid PDMS might be injected when using a plastic syringe of 1 mL. Purpose: This in vitro study was conducted to compare the fracture resistance of tooth restoration complex restored with polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and lithium disilicate endocrowns., Materials and Methods: A total of 46 extracted premolars were collected and treated endodontically. The teeth were mounted in cylindrical molds using autopolymerizing resin and were prepared for endocrown restoration. Specimens were divided into two groups (n = 23) to receive endocrowns made with two different materials (polyetheretherketone and lithium disilicate). All the specimens were subjected to thermal cycling. The fracture resistance test was carried out using a Universal Testing Machine. Fractographic analysis was carried out using stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope after load test. The values obtained were subjected to statistical analysis. Intergroup comparison (two groups) was performed using a t-test. Comparison of frequencies of categories of variables with groups was performed using chi-square test., Results: Fracture resistance tests showed a statistically significant difference in values between the two groups (p < 0.01). High fracture resistance values were seen with lithium disilicate endocrowns. Failure mode analysis showed that both groups exhibited mainly catastrophic failure. There were no significant differences in frequencies of the type of fracture between the groups., Conclusion: The fracture resistance of endocrowns fabricated with lithium disilicate material was found to be significantly higher than polyetheretherketone (PEEK) material. Background and Objective: Various materials like MTA, Biodentine etc have been used for the regeneration of lost dental tissues. Still, the quest for newer materials to enhance the bioactivity of the existing materials continues. Hence this study aims at the evaluation of bioactivity of MTA Plus when conjugated with Chitosan in phosphate buffer saline., Methodology: Materials used were MTA Plus (Group 1), MTA Plus and chitosan conjugate(Group 2). The materials were mixed and placed in phosphate buffer saline. Bioactivity of Group 1 and Group 2 materials were assessed at 7 days and 28 day's time intervals using SEM-EDX analysis., Results: SEM analysis of group 1 revealed a compact and agglomerate lath-like appearance with uniform particle size. SEM analysis of group 2 reveals acicular and lath-like appearance of the precipitate on the material surface. EDX analysis of the freshly prepared materials gave the qualitative semiquantitative elemental composition on the material surfaces after immersion in PBS for 7 and 28 days., Conclusion: MTA Plus Chitosan conjugate had greater potential to form apatite crystals on its surface. A trichobothrium is a complex sensory organ, which usually consists of a long, slender mechanoreceptive seta (trich), which is situated in a cuplike depression in the cuticle (bothrium). Nabidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cimicomorpha), also called damsel bugs, are a relatively small family within which two subfamilies, Nabinae and Prostemmatinae, are distinguished. Trichobothria are present in the number of one to seven pairs located laterally on the scutellum of adult representatives of Prostemmatinae. This feature is commonly used to distinguish this subfamily from Nabinae. Trichobothria are also found on the abdominal tergites of Prostemmatinae nymphs. Similar sensilla have been observed in adult representatives of Nabinae, but their homology has not yet been confirmed. During morphological studies on Nabidae, conducted using scanning electron microscopy, we noticed sensilla resembling trichobothria on the heads of these insects. This discovery prompted us to examine the presence of these structures in damsel bugs more carefully. Imagines of fifteen species of both subfamilies were analysed using a scanning electron microscope. The results present data on the distribution and micromorphology of the trichobothria in damsel bugs. A pair of dorsal and ventral cephalic trichobothria were observed in all of the examined species of subfamily Nabinae. These sensilla were not found on the heads of Prostemmatinae. The results of studies on scutellar trichobothria confirmed the previously known data regarding their occurrence in Prostemmatinae. Moreover, our research showed the presence of these sensory structures in all of the examined Nabinae species: one pair of trichobothria in Arachnocorini, Carthasini, Gorpini and Nabini, and two pairs in Stenonabini. The presence of abdominal trichobothria was shown in Nabini and Stenonabini. Aim and Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of various beverages carbonated drinks, i.e., thumps up, fresh fruit juice (apple and pomegranate) and packaged fruit juice (apple and pomegranate) on tooth surface morphology under scanning electron microscope., Materials and Methods: Thirty recently extracted intact caries-free human permanent teeth were disinfected with 5.25% of sodium hypochlorite solution and autoclaved at 240°F, 20 psi pressure for 40 min. Each tooth was sectioned into 4 enamel sections yielding 120 sections which were embedded in resin using a prefabricated mold. Prepared samples were immersed as Group I - thumps up, Group II - fresh apple juice, Group III - packaged apple juice, Group IV - fresh pomegranate juice, Group V - packaged pomegranate juice, and Group VI - normal saline. Each immersion was done daily for 30 min over 14 days after which samples were scanned under scanning electron microscope (SEM). The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS Version 23; Chicago Inc., IL, USA)., Results: The highest surface roughness was noted in the fresh pomegranate and packaged pomegranate groups with a mean of 2.9000 ± 0.30779 followed by thumbs up group. The greatest mean of cracks was noted in thumbs up group with a mean of 2.500 ± 0.51299 which was significant at P = 0.000. In this article, the sol-gel method was used as a synthesis method, which shows the physicochemical nature of the synthesis of a new complex material, ferrite Li 0.5 MnFe 1.5 O 4 . The structure and composition of the synthesized ferrite were determined by X-ray phase analysis. According to analysis indicators, it was found that our compound is a single-phase, spinel-structured, and syngony-cubic type of compound. The microstructure of the compound and the quantitative composition of the elements contained within it were analyzed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Under a scanning electron microscope, microsystems were taken from different parts of Li 0.5 MnFe 1.5 O 4 -type crystallite; the elemental composition of crystals was analyzed; and the general type of surface layer of complex ferrite was shown. As a result, given the fact that the compound consists of a single phase, the clarity of its construction was determined by the topography and chemical composition of the compound. As a result, it was found that the newly synthesized complex ferrites correspond to the formula Li 0.5 MnFe 1.5 O 4 . The particles of the formed compounds have a large size (between 50.0 μm or 20.0 μm and 10.0 μm). Electrophysical measurements were carried out on an LCR-800 unit at intervals of 293-483 K and at frequencies of 1.5 and 10 kHz. An increase in frequency to 10 kHz led to a decrease in the value ε in the range of the studied temperature (293-483 K).

Lately, children's daily consumption of some products, such as cereals and candies, has been rising, which provides a compelling rationale for determining any metallic substances that may be present. Monitoring the concentration of certain metals, like nickel, in these products is necessary due to medical issues in humans when consumed regularly. So, in this work, a novel and highly selective carbon paste as a Ni(II) ion-selective sensor was prepared and investigated using ceramic magnesium aluminum spinel nanoparticles as the ionophore and tritolyl phosphate (TOCP) as a plasticizer. A modified co-precipitation method was used to synthesize the spinel nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope with EDAX, transmission electron microscope, and BET surface area were used to determine the phase composition, microstructure, pores size, particle size, and surface area of the synthesized nanoparticles. The spinel nanoparticle was found to have a nano crystallite size with a cubic crystal system, a particle size ranging from 17.2 to 51.52 nm, mesoporous nature (average pore size = 8.72 nm), and a large surface area (61.75 m 2 /g). The composition ratio of graphite carbon as a base: TOCP as binder: spinal as ionophore was 67.3:30.0:2.7 (wt%) based on potentiometric detections over concentrations from 5.0 × 10 -8 to 1.0 × 10 -2  mol L -1 with LOD of 5.0 × 10 -8  mol L -1 . A measurement of 29.22 ± 0.12 mV decade -1 over pH 2.0-7.0 was made for the Nernstian slope. This sensor demonstrated good repeatability over nine weeks and a rapid response of 8 s. A good selectivity was shown for Ni(II) ions across many interferents, tri-, di-, and monovalent cations. The Ni(II) content in spiked real samples, including cocaine, sweets, coca, chocolate, carbonated drinks, cereals, and packages, were measured. The results obtained indicated no significant difference between the proposed potentiometric method and the officially reported ICP method according to the F- and t-test data. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the dentin shear bond strength (SBS) and bonding interface of three recently developed "universal" resin luting cements based on different modalities., Methods: The dentin SBS and interfacial analysis of three recently launched "universal" resin luting cements, namely, G-Cem One, RelyX Universal and Panavia SA cement universal, were studied. All bonding protocols, including the previous use of their dedicated primer or universal adhesive in touch-cure mode or light-cure mode were performed. Variolink Esthetic LC used in conjunction with Scotchbond Universal Plus was used as a control group. For each group (n = 9), 10 specimens were tested for dentin SBS and two were examined by scanning electron microscopy. SBS were analyzed by two-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett's test., Results: SBS values showed that the three "universal" resin luting cements tested exhibit different adhesive behaviors. G-Cem One with its touch-cure activated primer had a greater SBS to dentin (25.5 MPa) than that of the control group (22.1 MPa)., Conclusion: "Universal" resin luting cements have variable efficacy when used in self-curing mode. The touch-curing mode is also of concern but may show high potential for some formulations.

Background: Different methods for removing dental carious lesions exist, including conventional rotary caries removal and new advanced technology like polymer-based burs, chemomechanical agents, air abrasion, and laser., Objectives: This study shows the differences in features of dentin (smear layer, patency of dentinal tubules, surface irregularities, intertubular micro porosities, and exposed dentinal tubules) among different types of caries removal techniques., Materials and Methods: An in vitro study was done on 60 primary molars with occlusal class I active caries. Teeth were divided into three groups according to a method of caries removal (G1: chemomechanical, G2: mechanical with a smart bur, and G3: air-abrasion). After complete caries excavation, the teeth were examined under a scanning electronic microscope (SEM) with the power of magnification 4,000x and 8,000x to show the morphological dentinal features with SEM microphotographs. Data obtained was analyzed using the SPSS program where Fisher exact, Kruskal-Wallis and multiple Wilcoxon sum rank tests were used. The level of significance is when the p -value is less than 0.05., Results: Generally, SEM showed the highest ratio of score 1 of smear layer presence, surface irregularities, and microporosity in all groups in both magnifications. The patency of tubules showed the highest ratio of score 1 in G1, scores 2 in both G2 and G3 in magnification 4,000x, while 8,000x there was the highest ratio of its score 1 in G1 and G2 while the G3 has score 2 as the highest score. The exposed dentinal tubules showed the highest ratio in G1 in score 3, in G2 in score 2, and in G3 in score 1 in magnification 4,000x, while 8,000x there was the highest ratio of its score 2 in both G1 and G3 while the G3 has highest score 1. The study with magnification 4,000x showed a significant difference (S) among three groups in exposed dentinal tubules with a p -value (0.012), and there was S between chemomechanical and smart, chemomechanical and air-abrasions groups with a p -value (0.041, 0.001 subsequentially). Other dentin features showed non-significant differences (NS) among or between groups in both magnifications (4,000x, 8,000x)., Conclusions: All groups were effective in removing caries and can successfully treat young, scared or stressed patients. The community structure and ecological function of marine ecosystems are critically dependent on phytoplankton. However, our understanding of phytoplankton is limited due to the lack of detailed information on their morphology. To address this gap, we developed a framework that combines scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with photogrammetry to create realistic 3D (three-dimensional) models of phytoplankton. The workflow of this framework is demonstrated using two marine algal species, one dinoflagellate Prorocentrum micans and one diatom Halamphora sp. The resulting 3D models are made openly available and allow users to interact with phytoplankton and their complex structures virtually (digitally) and tangibly (3D printing). They also allow for surface area and biovolume calculations of phytoplankton, as well as the exploration of their light scattering properties, which are both important for ecosystem modeling. Background: The main disadvantage of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is its persistent dark coloring. The aim of this study was to cover this discoloration on affected primary tooth dentin with different materials and subsequently measure their shear bond strength (SBS)., Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study total of 60 primary teeth were demineralized and randomly divided into five groups ( n = 12). The tooth surfaces were treated with 38% SDF, and restorative cylinders were built on the dentin as follows: (1) phosphoric acid etching + GLUMA Universal Adhesive (GUA; etch-and-rinse mode) + composite resin (CR); (2) GUA (self-etch mode) + CR; (3) resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI; Fuji II); (4) Surefil One (self-adhesive CR); and (5) TheraCem (self-adhesive resin cement) + CR. After restoration, the specimens were tested for SBS. Failure mode was determined by digital analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's honest significant difference post hoc test. P <0.05 indicated statistical significance., Results: Group 1 had significantly higher mean SBS ( P < 0.05) compared to Groups 2-5, while Group 5 had the least SBS ( P < 0.001). Mean SBS differences between Groups 2 and 3 were not significant ( P = 0.328). Group 4 had lower mean SBS than Groups 1 ( P < 0.001) and 2 ( P = 0.17). Background: Fluoridated mouth rinses improve anti-cariogenic environment but decrease oral pH below critical value, affecting orthodontic bracket surface topography and causing corrosive changes over prolonged use. This invitro study aimed to quantitatively and qualitatively assess the surface topography and metallic ion release of the stainless steel (SS) brackets at varying acidic and alkaline pH., Materials and Methods: Forty unused SS brackets were divided into four groups (Group A, B, C, D) and immersed for 48- hours in solutions of artificial saliva and sodium fluoride (0.2 %) mouth rinse at varying pH of 5.5,6.7,7 and 8. The surface morphologic changes were analyzed under scanning electron microscope (SEM) at 50×, 150×, and 500× magnification. The changes in slot area were scored using the customized scale. The Energy Dispersive Xray Spectroscopy Analysis (EDAX) was used to estimate the probed elements' atomic and weight percentage., Results: The mean score of the scale was 3.4 for the brackets immersed in the acidic solution which was statistically significant (p = 0.00)and for alkaline and neutral solutions (p = 0.00). Chromium was found to be significantly higher in the alkaline solution (p = 0.016) followed by the neutral solution. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of blood and artificial salivary contamination of different root-end filling materials on microleakage using a confocal laser scanning microscope and on marginal adaptation using a scanning electron microscope., Materials and Methods: Eighty noncarious single-rooted teeth with mature apices were taken. After retro-cavity preparation, they were randomly assigned into two major groups ( n = 40). They were contaminated with blood and artificial saliva, respectively. Each major group was divided randomly into four subgroups ( n = 10) and filled as follows: Subgroup A, Biodentine; Subgroup B, bioactive bone cement; Subgroup C, Cention N; and Subgroup D, Bio-C Repair. The samples were sectioned transversely at 1 and 2 mm from the root apex and checked under a confocal laser scanning microscope for microleakage and under an scanning electron microscope for marginal adaptation. The average mean values were calculated. Independent samples t -tests, paired t -tests, and one-way analysis of variance with Tukey's post hoc tests were done to analyze the data., Results: All the tested materials showed marginal gaps and dye leakage. The Bio-C Repair group showed the least mean marginal gap and dye leakage values, followed by bioactive bone cement, Biodentine, and Cention N, respectively, in both blood and artificial saliva contamination. Aim: This study aims to compare and assess the compression strength, microhardness, and surface texture of two sets of materials: mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Plus TM  and bacterial cellulose nanocrystal (BCNC)-reinforced MTA Plus TM ., Materials and Methods: According to the ASTM E384 standard, the cylindrical molds made of plexiglass with an internal diameter of 6 mm and a height of 4 mm were fabricated using computer numerical control laser cutting. A total of 20 samples (n=10) in each group were considered in this experimental study: Group I (control group) MTA Plus TM (Prevest DenPro Limited, India) and Group II (experimental group) BCNC (Vedayukt India Private Limited, India)-reinforced MTA Plus TM . After preparation, the molds were incubated at 37°C in a fully saturated condition for about 24 hours, and then the compression strength, microhardness, and scanning electron microscopy analyses were performed at different magnifications. The obtained data were then statistically analyzed., Results: Quantitative analysis revealed that there is a statistically significant difference between MTA Plus TM and BCNC-reinforced MTA Plus TM   (p<0.002). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Mann-Whitney U-test revealed that BCNC-reinforced MTA Plus TM   showed significantly higher compression strength (33.80±3.83 MPa, p=0.00) and surface microhardness (642.85±24.00 μm, p=0.00) than the control group., Conclusion: Based on our findings, it was concluded that there is a statistically significant difference between both study groups. Thus, incorporating BCNC into the MTA Plus TM   significantly increased the compression strength and surface microhardness of the MTA Plus TM cement., Clinical Significance: Numerous dental applications have been investigated for bacterial cellulose. Many benefits of bacterial cellulose are available, which include its effects on moldability, low cost, high water retention capacity, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. This study investigates the distribution, morphology, and potential functions of antennal sensilla in various wasp species, including Dolichovespula flora , D. intermedia , Vespula structor , Vl. vulgaris , Provespa barthelemyi , Vespa bicolor , V. ducalis , V. mocsaryana , and V. velutina var. nigothorax . The study thoroughly analyzes the antennal structure of these species, representing all four genera of the yellow-jacket and hornet subfamily Vespinae. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the study identifies a total of nineteen types of sensilla, including sensilla trichodea (ST-I, ST-II, ST-III), sensilla campaniform (SCF-I, SCF-II, SCF-III), pit organs (SCO-I, SCO-II, and SA), sensilla placodea (SP-I, SP-II), sensilla chaetica (SCH-I, SCH-II), sensilla basiconica (SB-I, SB-II), sensilla agmon (SAG-I, SAG-II), and sensilla coelocapitular (SCA). Additionally, tyloids were observed in the males of seven species, except for Vl. structor and Vl. vulgaris . The study provides insights into these sensilla types' morphology, abundance, and distribution. It discusses the variations in sensilla morphology among different species and the presence of gender-specific sensilla. This study provides new data about the morphology and distribution patterns of sensilla and tyloid.

The aim of this study was to assess the surface and tissue quality of keratinized mucosa grafts (KMG) obtained using the conventional scalpel and mucotome techniques. This was an experimental in vitro/ex vivo study involving six porcine hemi-mandibles. Specimens were harvested using both the mucotome and conventional scalpel techniques, with randomization determining the choice of technique for tissue removal. The specimens were prepared following predefined laboratory protocols and subsequently subjected to optical microscopy for evaluating epithelial and connective tissue and scanning electron microscopy for topographical and 3D profilometry analysis. Tissues harvested using the mucotome exhibited a linear base and uniform thickness, along with the presence of submucosa and fibrous connective tissue, all of which are ideal for graft success. Differences in the surface characteristics of specimens obtained through the two techniques were observed during a comparative analysis of images obtained through both microscopy types. KMG obtained using the mucotome technique displayed greater uniformity and reduced undesirable cell presence compared to the scalpel technique, thereby enhancing the likelihood of success in soft tissue graft surgical procedures. This study provides valuable insights to oral healthcare professionals and may contribute to future research aimed at achieving more successful surgeries, shorter postoperative recovery times, reduced discomfort, and an overall more positive patient experience., (© 2024. Syzgium cumini (L.) Skeels powder ( S. cumini powder), also known as Jamun, is well-known for its various medical and health benefits. It is especially recognized for its antidiabetic and antioxidant properties. Thus, S. cumini powder is used in various industries, such as the food and cosmetic industries. In this work, the fruit of S. cumini was utilized; its seeds were extracted, dried, and ground into powder. The ground powders were subjected to various techniques such as physicochemical tests, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and antioxidant analysis. From the physicochemical tests, it was revealed that the jamun seed filler contained cellulose (43.28%), hemicellulose (19.88%), lignin (23.28%), pectin (12.58%), and wax (0.98%). The FTIR analysis supported these results. For instance, a peak at 2889 cm -1 was observed and associated with CH stretching, typically found in methyl and methylene groups, characteristic of cellulose and hemicellulose structures. The XRD results demonstrated that the crystallinity index of the jamun seed filler was 42.63%. The particle analysis indicated that the mean (average) particle size was 25.34 μm. This observation was ensured with SEM results. The EDX spectrum results showed the elemental composition of the fillers. Regarding thermal degradation, the jamun seed filler had the ability to withstand temperatures of up to 316.5 °C. Furthermore, endothermic and exothermic peaks were observed at 305 °C and 400 °C, respectively. Furthermore, the antioxidant property of the powder displayed a peak scavenging activity of 91.4%. This comprehensive study not only underscores the viability of S. cumini powder as a sustainable and effective particulate filler in polymer composites but also demonstrates its potential to enhance the mechanical properties of composites, thereby offering significant implications for the development of eco-friendly materials in various industrial applications.

This study assessed the low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film degradation potential of microorganisms isolated from oil-contaminated soil and also analyzed the morphological and chemical composition of LDPE films after the biodegradation period. The bacteria strains isolated from oil-contaminated soil were standardized and used to degrade the pretreated LDPE films in mineral salt media. Thereafter, they were incubated for 78 days at 37°C in an incubator shaker, and the degraded LDPE films were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively (using scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and energy dispersal x-ray (EDX)). Isolates A32 and BTT4 amongst other bacteria isolates showed the highest LDPE film degradation activity, with a weight reduction of 71.80% and 89.72% respectively, and were identified using the 16S rRNA sequencing technique. The EDX results showed that LDPE film incubated with A32 has the highest reduction in carbon and nitrogen (23.8% and 44.9% respectively) when compared with the Control. However, LDPE film incubated with BTT4 had an increase in calcium and chlorine (139% and 40% respectively), when compared with the control. Similarly, the SEM images showed the appearance of pinholes, cracks and particles on the surfaces of LDPE films incubated with A32 and BTT4 contrary to the controls. A32 and BTT4 were identified as Proteus mirabilis (Accession number: MN124173.1) and Proteus mirabilis (Accession number: KY027145.1) respectively. Proteus mirabilis showed viable plastic biodegradation potentials and may be useful in the management of plastic waste, leading to a reduction in global plastic waste and a clean environment.

Introduction: The objective of this in vitro study was to compare the effectiveness of a propolis-based herbal toothpaste with 5% sodium fluoride varnishin obstructing human dentinal tubules; Scanning electron microscopy was utilised to obtain quantitative and qulitative data on tubular obstruction., Methods: Thirty-nine extracted human premolar teeth were collected. The cementum layer was removed using a water-cooled diamond bur and the smear layer using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) 17%. Then, the samples were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 13 each), as follows: group 1: dentin discs exposed to the propolis-based herbal toothpaste (Herbex); group 2: dentin discs exposed to 5% sodium fluoride varnish; and group 3: control. Then, all discs were observed and imaged in 4 non-overlapping fields by an electron microscope at 2000× magnification. The topography and number of open, closed, and semi-closed tubules were counted in all images. The data were analysed using Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Friedman test. The statistical analysis was performed with SPSS statistic 22.0 software, with a significance level of α = 0.05., Results: In pairwise comparisons of the groups considering the percentage of open, closed, and semi-closed tubules, the difference was not statistically significant between the 5% sodium fluoride varnish and propolis groups in the closed and semi-closed tubules, but it was statistically significant with the control group. Zirconium dioxide silver-doped nanoparticles (ZrO 2 AgDNPs) impacts the adhesive material in terms of its physical characteristics, antimicrobial properties, degree of conversion (DC), and micro-tensile bond strength (μTBS) of orthodontic brackets to the enamel surface. A comprehensive methodological analysis utilizing a range of analytical techniques, including scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, DC analysis, and μTBS testing. A light-curable orthodontic adhesive, specifically Transbond XT, was combined with ZrO 2 AgDNPs at 2.5% and 5%. As a control, an adhesive with no incorporation of ZrO 2 AgDNPs was also prepared. The tooth samples were divided into three groups based on the weightage of NPs: group 1: 0% ZrO 2 AgDNPs (control), group 2: 2.5 wt% ZrO 2 AgDNPs, and group 3: 5 wt% ZrO 2 AgDNPs. EDX graph demonstrated silver (Ag), Zirconium (Zr), and Oxygen (O 2 ), The antibacterial efficacy of adhesives with different concentrations of NPs (0%, 2.5%, and 5%) was assessed using the pour plate method. The FTIR spectra were analyzed to identify peaks at 1607 cm -1 corresponding to aromatic CC bonds and the peaks at 1638 cm -1 indicating the presence of aliphatic CC bonds. The μTBS was assessed using universal testing machine (UTM) and bond failure of orthodontic brackets was seen using adhesive remanent index (ARI) analysis. Kruskal-Wallis test assessed the disparities in survival rates of Streptococcus mutans. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc Tukey multiple comparisons test calculated μTBS values. The lowest μTBS was observed in group 1 adhesive loaded with 0% ZrO 2 AgDNPs (21.25 ± 1.22 MPa). Whereas, the highest μTBS was found in group 3 (26.19 ± 1.07 MPa) adhesive loaded with 5% ZrO 2 AgDNPs. ZrO 2 AgDNPs in orthodontic adhesive improved μTBS and has acceptable antibacterial activity against S mutans. ZrO 2 AgDNPs at 5% by weight can be used in orthodontic adhesive alternative to the conventional method of orthodontic adhesive for bracket bonding. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: The highest μTBS was found in orthodontic adhesive loaded with 5% ZrO 2 AgDNPs. ARI analysis indicates that the majority of the failures fell between 0 and 1 among all investigated groups. The colony-forming unit count of S. mutans was significantly less in orthodontic adhesive loaded with nanoparticles compared with control. Background: To assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of four calcium silicate-based cements (CSCs) to composite resin using a universal adhesive in self-etch (SE) and etch-and-rinse (ER) modes and to evaluate surface microstructure and chemical composition of CSCs after acid-etching., Methods: In total, 30 specimens of each cement, Biodentine (BD), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Angelus (MTA-A), ProRoot MTA (MTA-P) and MTA Repair HP (MTA-HP), were prepared and assigned into 2 groups (n = 15) according to universal adhesive (Clearfil Universal Bond Quick) applied in SE and ER mode. After composite resin (Clearfil Majesty Esthetic) was applied, the SBS was measured. Scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) analysis was used to evaluate the changes in surface structure and elemental composition., Results: MTA-P demonstrated significantly higher SBS than all CSCs, except for MTA-HP in the SE mode. The ER mode exhibited significantly higher SBS compared to the SE mode for MTA-P and MTA-A. Acid-etching caused morphological differences and affected elemental distribution., Conclusions: MTA-P may be a more suitable pulp capping material due to its superior SBS compared to BD and MTA-A. To extend the vase life of cut flowers, there is now a trend of using plant essential oils in place of synthetic chemicals, as they are fully biodegradable, more eco-friendly, and safer. The objective of this study was to examine the possible application and postharvest quality effects of three plant essential oils namely, ginger ( Zingiber officinale Roscoe), peppermint ( Mentha piperita L.), and citronella ( Cymbopogon nardus Rendle), as natural vase solution for cut Dendrobium flowers. Peppermint essential oil showed promise as a holding solution for extending the vase life of Dendrobium orchids. To confirm vase life extension, emulsions containing peppermint essential oil at concentrations of 50 and 100 μg mL -1 combined with 4 % glucose to formulate holding solutions applied to Dendrobium orchids. Vase life, some biochemical changes, electrolyte leakage, total microbial count in the holding solution, and physical condition via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were evaluated over a period of 25 days. The three major compounds in peppermint essential oil were identified as menthol (33.24 %), 1-menthone (18.91 %) and menthofuran (14.85 %). The essential oil was applied in emulsion form as a holding solution. Treatment with 4 % glucose and either 50 or 100 μg mL -1 peppermint essential oil prolonged the vase life of Dendrobium orchids to up to 28 days. Scanning electron microscopy on Day 7 showed that the xylem vessels of treated orchids remained clear, suggesting reduced microbial plugging at the stalk end. Similarly, on Day 20, a reduced microbial cell count was observed for treated orchids (<1 log CFU mL -1 ) in comparison with controls (7.20 ± 0.04 log CFU mL -1 ). Finally, the essential oil improved flower quality by helping preserve petal membrane stability and petal anthocyanin content. Background and Objectives: Protocols that determine the lesion depth of specific demineralization solutions are lacking. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate various lesion depths of artificial white spot lesions (WSLs) at different exposure times.  Materials and methods: Artificial WSLs were created by placing 30 extracted human premolar teeth into 0.05M acetate buffer solution with a controlled environment of pH 4.4 at 37ºC, which were then exposed in the solution for various durations of 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12 days. The specimens were visually examined using the Ekstrand-Ricketts-Kidd (ERK) system to confirm the WSL, followed by buccolingual sectioning, and evaluated under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to measure the lesion depth., Results: The SEM showed that the mean lesion depths of representative specimens were 101.33 µm (day 4), 124 µm (day 5), 159 µm (day 6), 187 µm (day 8), 202 µm (day 10), and 212 µm (day 12). A serious risk that harms the safe use of water and affects aquatic ecosystems is water pollution. This occurs when the water's natural equilibrium is disrupted by an excessive amount of substances, both naturally occurring and as a byproduct of human activities, that have varied degrees of toxicity. Radiation from Cs isotopes, which are common components of radioactive waste and are known for their long half-lives (30 years), which are longer than the natural decay processes, is a major source of contamination. Adsorption is a commonly used technique for reducing this kind of contamination, and zeolite chabazite has been chosen as the best adsorbent for cesium in this particular situation. The purpose of this research is to investigate a composite material based on magnesium phosphate cement (MPC). Magnesium oxide (MgO), potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH 2 PO 4 ), and properly selected retarders are used to create the MPC. The optimal conditions for this composite material are investigated through the utilization of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, BET surface area analysis, and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The principal aim is to enable innovations in the elimination of radioactive waste-contaminated water using effective cesium removal. The most promising results were obtained by using KH 2 PO 4 as an acid, and MgO as a base, and aiming for an M/P ratio of two or four. Furthermore, we chose zeolite chabazite as a crucial component. The best adsorption abilities for Cs were found at Q ads = 106.997 mg/g for S 2 and Q ads = 122.108 mg/g for S 1 . As a result, zeolite is an eco-friendly material that is a potential usage option, with many benefits, such as low prices, stability, and ease of regeneration and use.

Background Information: The advancement of biological-mediated nanoscience towards higher levels and novel benchmarks is readily apparent, owing to the use of non-toxic synthesis processes and the incorporation of various additional benefits. This study aimed to synthesize stable tin oxide nanoparticles (SnO 2 -NPs) using S. rhizophila as a mediator., Methods: The nanoparticles that were created by biosynthesis was examined using several analytical techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS)., Results: The results obtained from the characterization techniques suggest that S. rhizophila effectively catalyzed the reduction of SnCl 2 to SnO 2 -NPs duration of 90 min at ambient temperature with the ƛmax of 328 nm. The size of the nano crystallite formations was measured to be 23 nm. The present study investigates nanoscale applications' antibacterial efficacy against four bacterial strains, including Klebsiella Sp, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli. The observed zone of inhibition for the nanoparticles (NPs) varied from 10 to 25 mm. Introduction: To evaluate the push-out bond strength (POBS) of AH Plus sealer to root dentin and the adhesive interface quality after calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH) 2 ) intracanal dressing removal with different final irrigation protocols., Method: After root canal instrumentation and irrigation, 40 root canals were filled with Ca(OH) 2 and sealed. After 14 days, the specimens were randomly distributed according to the irrigation protocols for Ca(OH) 2 removal (n = 10): G H2O (control) - distilled water; G NaOCl - 1% NaOCl; G EDTA - 17% EDTA; G EDTA + NaOCl - 17% EDTA + 1% NaOCl. The root canals were filled with AH Plus sealer and gutta-percha. After 7 days, the roots were sectioned into dentin slices and submitted to POBS test and analysis of the adhesive interface under scanning electron microscope. The POBS data were statistically evaluated (analysis of variance and Tukey test). The Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used to analyze the adhesive interface (α = 0.05)., Results: G H2O , G NaOCl , and G EDTA + NaOCl had similar POBS values, with higher values on the apical third, in comparison with other thirds (P < .05). A homogeneous and free-of-gaps adhesive interface was observed for G H2O , G NaOCl , and G EDTA + NaOCl , with difference between G H2O and G EDTA (P < .05). G H2O and G EDTA + NaOCl presented higher sealer tags formation (P < .05)., Conclusion: The final rinse with EDTA for Ca(OH) 2 dressing removal had a negative effect on the POBS of the filling material to root dentin. The use of EDTA followed by NaOCl had results similar to the distilled water, providing uniform and free-of-gaps adhesive interface, and a higher number of sealer tags., (Copyright © 2024 American Association of Endodontists.
