Osteoporosis is a skeletal disease that can increase the risk of fractures, leading to adverse health and socioeconomic consequences. However, current clinical methods have limitations in accurately estimating fracture risk, particularly in older adults. Thus, new technologies are necessary to improve the accuracy of fracture risk estimation. In this observational study, we aimed to explore the association between serum cytokines and hip fracture status in older adults, and their associations with fracture risk using the FRAX reference tool. We investigated the use of a proximity extension assay (PEA) with Olink. We compared the characteristics of the population, functional status and detailed body composition (determined using densitometry) between groups. We enrolled 40 participants, including 20 with hip fracture and 20 without fracture, and studied 46 cytokines in their serum. After conducting a score plot and two unpaired t-tests using the Benjamini-Hochberg method, we found that Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Lymphotoxin-alpha (LT-α), Fms-related tyrosine kinase 3 ligand (FLT3LG), Colony stimulating factor 1 (CSF1), and Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 7 (CCL7) were significantly different between fracture and non-fracture patients (p < 0.05). IL-6 had a moderate correlation with FRAX (R 2  = 0.409, p < 0.001), while CSF1 and CCL7 had weak correlations with FRAX. LT-α and FLT3LG exhibited a negative correlation with the risk of fracture. Our results suggest that targeted proteomic tools have the capability to identify differentially regulated proteins and may serve as potential markers for estimating fracture risk. However, longitudinal studies will be necessary to validate these results and determine the temporal patterns of changes in cytokine profiles., (© 2023. Objective: To design a mortality indicator in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the intensive care unit (ICU)., Design: A multicenter, observational descriptive study was carried out., Participants: Patients with ACS admitted to the ICUs included in the ARIAM-SEMICYUC registry between January 2013 and April 2019., Interventions: None., Main Variables of Interest: Demographic parameters, time of access to the healthcare system, and clinical condition. Revascularization therapy, drugs and mortality were analyzed. Cox regression analysis was performed, followed by the design of a neural network. A receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was plotted to calculate the power of the new score. Lastly, the clinical utility or relevance of the ARIAM indicator (ARIAM' s ) was assessed using a Fagan test., Results: A total of 17,258 patients were included in the study, with a mortality rate of 3.5% (n = 605) at discharge from the ICU. The variables showing statistical significance (P < .001) were entered into the supervised predictive model, an artificial neural network. The new ARIAM' s yielded a mean of 0.0257 (95%CI: 0.0245-0.0267) in patients discharged from the ICU versus 0.27085 (95%CI: 0.2533-0.2886) in those who died (P < .001). The area under the ROC curve of the model was 0.918 (95%CI: 0.907-0.930). Based on the Fagan test, the ARIAM' s showed the mortality risk to be 19% (95%CI: 18%-20%) when positive and 0.9% (95%CI: 0.8%-1.01%) when negative., Conclusions: A new mortality indicator for ACS in the ICU can be established that is more accurate and reproducible, and periodically updated., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier España, S.L.U. and SEMICYUC. Sexuality is a central aspect for all human beings. Research into the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in pregnant Spanish women is scarce. The aim of this work is to examine the prevalence of risk of sexual dysfunctions in pregnant Spanish women and determine in which trimester the greatest difficulties in sexual response occur. The sample consisted of 180 pregnant Spanish women, with an average age of 32.03 years (SD = 4.93). The participants completed a questionnaire for socio-demographic data, as well as the female sexual function index, the state/trait depression inventory, and the dyadic adjustment scale. The results indicate that the percentage of women with a risk of sexual dysfunction was 65% in the first trimester and 81.11% in the third trimester. Likewise, the highest score on the depression questionnaire was in the third trimester, and the couple's relationship also improved in the third trimester. To improve women's sex lives during pregnancy, it is recommended to increase sexual education and information for both pregnant women and their partners.

Background: The available evidence about the effect of gender and/or sex on mortality differences is contradictory. Our aim is to assess the impact of gender on the access to reperfusion therapy in patients with acute coronary syndrome with ST-segment elevation (STEMI), and secondly, to analyze the effect of delay on the differences with regard to hospital mortality., Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted among consecutive patients with STEMI included in the ARIAM-SEMICYUC registry (2010-2013)., Results: A total of 4816 patients were included (22.09% women). Women were older, presented with longer patient delay (90 vs. 75 minutes, p=0.0066), higher risk profile (GRACE>140: 75.1% vs. 56.05%, p<0.0001), and received less reperfusion therapy (68.8% vs. 74.7%, p<0.0001) with longer total reperfusion time (307 vs. 240 minutes, p<0.0001). Women received less thrombolysis (24.53% vs. 29.98%, p<0.0001) and longer door-to-needle time (85 vs. 70 minutes, p 0.0023). We found no differences regarding primary percutaneous coronary intervention or door-to-balloon time. Women also had higher hospital mortality (crude odds ratio 2.54, 95% confidence interval 1.99-3.26, p<0.0001), which persisted after controlling the effect of patient delay, age, risk (GRACE), and reperfusion (adjusted odds ratio 1.43, 95% confidence interval 1.0-2.06, p=0.0492). Using TIMI or Killip risk scores as risk estimates yielded nonsignificant results., Conclusions: Compared with men, women with STEMI have worse access to reperfusion and higher hospital mortality. The impact of the differences in accessibility on mortality gap remains uncertain.
