Background/objectives: To create a risk factor model for posterior capsule rupture (PCR) during cataract surgery., Subjects/methods: Eligible operations between 01/04/2016 and 31/03/2022 from centres supplying data to the UK national cataract audit with complete data including patients' gender and age at surgery, anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurement and preoperative visual acuity (VA) were included. A logistic regression model was fitted to identify risk factors and calculate their odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for PCR., Results: This analysis included 961,208 cataract operations performed on 682,381 patients from 136 participating centres by 3198 surgeons. 9730 (1.01%) of surgeries were complicated by PCR. The median age was 75.7 and 76.7 years for first and second eye surgery respectively, and 5154 (53.0%) were female. The highest risk factors for PCR were less experienced trainee surgeon (OR 3.75, 95% CI 3.33-4.24, p < 0.001), pseudoexfoliation/phacodonesis (OR 3.47, 95% CI 3.05-3.94, p < 0.001), younger males (OR 3.05, 95% CI 2.23-4.16, p < 0.001) and brunescent/white/mature cataract (OR 2.41, 95% CI 2.24-2.60, p < 0.001). Other risk factors identified were glaucoma, worse preoperative VA, previous intravitreal therapy, high myopia, previous vitrectomy, systemic diabetes, diabetic retinopathy, amblyopia, older age, shallower ACD and inability to lie flat and cooperate., Conclusion: Various surgical, patient and ocular factors increase the risk of PCR during cataract surgery. This risk factor model permits estimation of individualised risks for patients and allows risk-adjustment for surgeons to evaluate their PCR rates based on case complexity., (© 2024. Emergent ferromagnetism in β-Ga 2 O 3 with an ultra-wide bandwidth and high electrical breakdown strength offers exciting opportunities for fabricating robust spintronic devices. One pertinent obstacle in the material has been the low saturation magnetization, which precludes its practical application in magnetic devices. In this work, large-scale Fe-doped β-Ga 2 O 3 diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) films are synthesized using a polymer-assisted deposition method, and the effect of Fe doping on their structural and magnetic properties is investigated. Remarkably, the optimal sample exhibits a high saturation magnetization (70 emu cm -3 at 300 K), much larger than those in previously reported stable oxide DMS films, as well as a low coercivity (12 Oe at 300 K). Further analysis shows that our samples manifest a typical bound magnetic polaron (BMP) model and the high saturation magnetization originates from the strong ferromagnetic coupling between the BMPs which is enhanced by Ga vacancies. The Fe-doped β-Ga 2 O 3 thin films with high saturation magnetization and low coercivity may provide a promising platform for related semiconductor spintronics.

Vapor-deposited inverted perovskite solar cells utilizing self-assembled monolayer (SAM) as hole transport material have gained significant attention for their high efficiencies and compatibility with silicon/perovskite monolithic tandem devices. However, as a small molecule, the SAM layer suffers low thermal tolerance in comparison with other metal oxide or polymers, rendering poor efficiency in solar device with high-temperature (> 160 °C) fabricating procedures. In this study, a dual modification approach involving AlO x and F-doped phenyltrimethylammonium bromide (F-PTABr) layers is introduced to enhance the buried interface. The AlO x dielectric layer improves the interface contact and prevents the upward diffusion of SAM molecules during the vapor-solid reaction at 170 °C, while the F-PTABr layer regulates crystal growth and reduces the interfacial defects. As a result, the AlO x /F-PTABr-treated perovskite film exhibits a homogeneous, pinhole-free morphology with improved crystal quality compared to the control films. This leads to a champion power conversion efficiency of 21.53% for the inverted perovskite solar cells. Background: New-onset permanent pacemaker implantation (PPMI) is still a common complication after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) with adverse clinical outcomes., Objective: To investigate whether left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP) improves long-term clinical results compared to traditional right ventricular pacing (RVP) in patients requiring PPMI following TAVI., Methods: A total of 237 consecutive patients undergoing RVP (N=117) or LBBAP (N=120) following TAVI were retrospectively included. Long-term outcomes including all-cause death, heart failure rehospitalization (HFH) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) change compared to baseline were obtained until 5 years post-TAVI., Results: The mean age of the overall population was 74 years with a mean surgical risk score as 4.4%. The paced QRS duration was significantly longer in RVP group compared to LBBAP group (151 ± 18 vs. 122 ± 12 ms, P<0.001). There was no difference between two groups in all-cause death (13.7% vs. 13.3%, adjusted HR: 0.76; 95% CI: 0.37 to 1.58; P=0.466) or the composite endpoint of death and HFH (29.9% vs. 19.2%, adjusted HR: 1.22; 95% CI: 0.70 to 2.13; P=0.476), however, the risk of HFH was significantly higher in RVP group at 5 years after TAVI (21.4% vs. 7.5%, adjusted HR: 2.26; 95% CI: 1.01 to 5.08; P=0.048). There was a greater improvement of LVEF over time in LBBAP group (P=0.046 for LVEF changes over time between groups)., Conclusions: LBBAP improved long-term clinical outcomes compared to RVP in patients undergoing PPMI after TAVI in terms of less HFH and better LVEF improvement., (Copyright © 2024. Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a tick-borne viral disease that is increasingly affecting human being worldwide. The clinical manifestations and mortality rates of SFTS can vary depending on the geographic region and the specific genotype of the SFTS virus (SFTSV). From July 2022 to August 2023, we collected serum samples from 83 patients with suspected SFTSV infection in the northwest of Hubei Province, China. From which, 13 patients tested positive for SFTSV. Phylogenetic analysis of the SFTSV L, M, and S gene segments was performed using the maximum likelihood method to determine the genetic diversity of the isolates. At least 2 SFTSV genotypes (A and F) were identified in the northwest of Hubei Province. The clinical manifestations and laboratory findings on the first day of admission were investigated. Results showed that bleeding and disturbance of consciousness, and significant elevated AST and APTT, are valuable for assessing the prognosis for SFTS patients. This study disclosed the genomic sequences and genotypes of SFTSV spreading in the northwest of Hubei Province for the first time, providing information of genetically etiology for SFTS in the local district. Furthermore, certain symptoms and/or laboratory findings may indicate adverse clinical outcomes, highlighting the importance of identifying the symptoms and monitoring specific laboratory markers. Although hypertension is highly prevalent among the elderly and significantly contributes to cardiovascular disease risk, studies focusing on male elderly individuals over 85 years old are relatively scarce. This study aimed to investigate ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) characteristics in male hypertensive patients aged over 85 years. These included demographic characteristics, antihypertensive drug use, 24-h ABPM values, diabetes, coronary heart disease, sleep disorders, smoking history, and drinking history, and the differences in ABPM between the age groups over and under 85 years old were analyzed. A total of 585 elderly hypertensive patients were included. The mean systolic blood pressure in individuals aged over 85 years was significantly greater throughout the day (131.57 ± 12.52 mmHg vs. 123.75 ± 2.74 mmHg, p < .001). In the 85 years older age group, the nighttime variability coefficient of SBP was lower at 7.84 ± 2.9 than the under 85 years age group 8.92 ± 3.13 (p < .001). The 85 years older age group age group presented a significantly greater whole-day systolic blood pressure standard deviation of ABPM (13.2 ± 3.19 vs. 12.47 ± 3.05, p = .005) compared with those under the age of 85 years. In the 85 years older age group, the proportion of individuals with the reverse dipper pattern was higher (48.15% vs. 38.31%, p = .017) than under 85 years age group. This study revealed that elderly male hypertensive patients aged over 85 years presented elevated average blood pressure levels. The research investigated ABPM characteristics. Chromatin interactions create spatial proximity between distal regulatory elements and target genes in the genome, which has an important impact on gene expression, transcriptional regulation, and phenotypic traits. To date, several methods have been developed for predicting gene expression. However, existing methods do not take into consideration the effect of chromatin interactions on target gene expression, thus potentially reducing the accuracy of gene expression prediction and mining of important regulatory elements. In this study, we developed a highly accurate deep learning-based gene expression prediction model (DeepCBA) based on maize chromatin interaction data. Compared with existing models, DeepCBA exhibits higher accuracy in expression classification and expression value prediction. The average Pearson correlation coefficients (PCCs) for predicting gene expression using gene promoter proximal interactions, proximal-distal interactions, and both proximal and distal interactions were 0.818, 0.625, and 0.929, respectively, representing an increase of 0.357, 0.16, and 0.469 over the PCCs obtained with traditional methods that use only gene proximal sequences. Some important motifs were identified through DeepCBA; they were enriched in open chromatin regions and expression quantitative trait loci and showed clear tissue specificity. Importantly, experimental results for the maize flowering-related gene ZmRap2.7 and the tillering-related gene ZmTb1 demonstrated the feasibility of DeepCBA for exploration of regulatory elements that affect gene expression. Moreover, promoter editing and verification of two reported genes (ZmCLE7 and ZmVTE4) demonstrated the utility of DeepCBA for the precise design of gene expression and even for future intelligent breeding. The prevalence of coronary heart disease (CHD) has increased significantly with the aging population worldwide. It is unclear whether ferroptosis occurs during CHD. Hence, we aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms associated with ferroptosis in CHD. Bioinformatics was used to characterize differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in CHD-related datasets (GSE21610 and GSE66360). There were 76 and 689 DEGs in the GSE21610 and GSE66360, respectively, and they predominantly associated with immune and inflammatory responses. DDX3Y, EIF1AY, KDM5D, RPS4Y1, SGK1, USP9Y, and NSG1 were intersecting DEGs of GSE21610 and GSE66360. Their expression pattern in circulating endothelial cells (ECs) derived from healthy individuals and CHD patients are consistent with the results of bioinformatics analysis, especially SGK1. In vitro, SGK1 knockdown alleviated the Erastin-induced downregulation of SLC7A11, GPX4, GSH, and GSSG, as well as the upregulation of lipid peroxidation, Fe accumulation, and mitochondrial damage in mouse aortic ECs (MAECs). Notably, SGK1 may interact with NEDD4L according to the String database. Moreover, SGK1 promoted NEDD4L and p-P65 expression in MAECs. Interestingly, the effect of SGK1 knockdown on ferroptosis in MAECs was rescued by overexpression of NEDD4L or PMA (NF-κB pathway activator). In vivo, SGK1 knockdown facilitated the recovery of body weight, blood lipids, and aortic tissue structure in CHD animal models. Furthermore, SGK1 knockdown alleviated Fe accumulation in the aorta and inactivated the NEDD4L-NF-κB pathway. In conclusion, SGK1 contributes to EC ferroptosis by regulating the NEDD4L-NF-κB pathway. Obstructive uropathy is a common kidney disease caused by elevated hydrostatic pressure (HP), but relevant molecular and cellular mechanisms have not yet been well understood. In this study, we ex vivo investigated the effects of elevated HP on human renal epithelial cells (HREpCs). Primary HREpCs were subjected to 100 cmH2O HP for 8 or 48 h. Then, the cells were cultured without HP stimulation for another 24 h or 72 h. Cell morphology showed almost no change after 8h HP treatment, but exhibited reversible elongation after 48h HP treatment. HP treatment for 8 h increased the expression of TGFB1 and VEGFA but decreased the expression of CSF2 and TGFB2. On the other hand, HP treatment for 48 h downregulated the expression of CSF2, TGFB2, PDGFB, VEGFA, and VEGFB, while upregulated the expression of TGFB3. Interestingly, all changes induced by 48 h HP treatment were detected more severe compared to 8 h HP treatment. In conclusion, elongated ex vivo HP loading to renal epithelial cells induces reversible changes on cell morphology and disturbs the expression of several growth factors, which provides novel mechanistic insight on elevated HP-caused kidney injury such as obstructive uropathy., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist., (Copyright: © 2024 Yan et al. The advancement of electronic technology has led to increasing research on performance and stability. Continuous electrical pulse stimulation can cause crystal structure changes, affecting performance and accelerating aging. Controlled repair of these defects is crucial. In this study, we investigated crystal structure changes in van der Waals (vdW) InSe crystals under continuous electric pulses by using electron beam lithography (EBL) and spherical aberration corrected transmission electron microscopy (Cs-TEM). Results show that electrical pulses induce amorphous regions in the InSe lattice, increasing the device resistance. We used Cs-STEM probe scanning for precise repair, abbreviated SPRT, to optimize device performance. SPRT is related to electric fields induced by the electron beam and can be applied to other 2D materials like α-In 2 Se 3 and CrSe 2 , offering a potential approach to extend device lifespan.

Purpose: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Statins, which are effective in preventing ASCVD, are underused, particularly for primary prevention. This study examined trends in statin use for primary ASCVD prevention from 1999 to 2020, focusing on demographic variations., Methods: Utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the present study includes individuals aged 18 years and older who had a greater than 10% risk of ASCVD over 10 years, and excluded patients with existing ASCVD. Subgroup analyses by demographic categories were performed. We calculated the changes in statin usage and used linear and quadratic tests to assess the linear and nonlinear trends in those changes., Results: A total of 10,037 participants were included. Statin usage increased from 16.16% in 1999 to 36.24% in 2010, and 41.74% in 2020 (quadratic P-value < 0.001). In the 18-44 years age group, statin usage increased from 2.52% in 1999 to 8.14% in 2020 (linear P-value = 0.322), showing no significant linear trend. In the "never-married" group, statin usage increased from 19.16% in 1999 to 30.05% in 2020 (linear P-value = 0.256)., Conclusion: Statin usage has shown a positive trend among populations requiring primary prevention for ASCVD. Currently, health policies are proving effective. However, the overall statin usage rate remains less than 50%. Additionally, young and never-married individuals should also receive special attention regarding statin usage as primary treatment for ASCVD., (© 2024. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are derived from the central nervous system and inherently difficult to camouflage, leading to the recent popularity of EEG-based emotion recognition. However, due to the non-stationary nature of EEG, inter-subject variabilities become obstacles for recognition models to well adapt to different subjects. In this paper, we propose a novel approach called semi-supervised bipartite graph construction with active EEG sample selection (SBGASS) for cross-subject emotion recognition, which offers two significant advantages. Firstly, SBGASS adaptively learns a bipartite graph to characterize the underlying relationships between labeled and unlabeled EEG samples, effectively implementing the semantic connection for samples from different subjects. Secondly, we employ active sample selection technique in this paper to reduce the impact of negative samples (outliers or noise in the data) on bipartite graph construction. Drawing from the experimental results with the SEED-IV data set, we have gained the following three insights. (1) SBGASS actively rejects negative labeled samples, which helps mitigate the impact of negative samples when constructing the optimal bipartite graph and improves the model performance. (2) Through the learned optimal bipartite graph in SBGASS, the transferability of labeled EEG samples is quantitatively analyzed, which exhibits a decreasing tendency as the distance between each labeled sample and the corresponding class centroid increases. The continuous aerobic granular sludge (AGS) process is promising for upgrading existing wastewater treatment facilities. However, this approach is still challenging because of its complicated structure and operation. To address this issue, a novel separate aeration self-circulating technology (abbreviated as Zier) was proposed, which is promising for cultivating AGS by its outstanding upflow velocity and circulation multiplier (more than 30 m/h and 200, respectively). This study elaborated on the Zier reactor's feasibility, optimization, and control strategy through computational fluid dynamics simulations, theoretical calculations, and experiments. An appropriate flow regime for efficient removal of pollutant and granulation of sludge was attained at a superficial gas velocity of 1.3 cm/s. Moreover, optimizing the aeration column diameter to half of the reaction column and increasing the height/diameter ratio to 20 dramatically boosted the nitrogen removal capacity over 1.6 kg N/m 3 /d. Utilizing a smaller circulation pipe diameter ensured granulation under a consistent flow regime. By judiciously regulating, multiple CSTRs and PFRs seamlessly integrated within the Zier reactor across a broad spectrum of particle sludge. The validity of these findings was further substantiated through experimental and theoretical validations. Drawing from these findings, a multi-scenario control strategy was proposed as Zier's map. Combining LiDAR points and images for robust semantic segmentation has shown great potential. However, the heterogeneity between the two modalities (e.g. the density, the field of view) poses challenges in establishing a bijective mapping between each point and pixel. This modality alignment problem introduces new challenges in network design and data processing for cross-modal methods. Specifically, 1) points that are projected outside the image planes; 2) the complexity of maintaining geometric consistency limits the deployment of many data augmentation techniques. To address these challenges, we propose a cross-modal knowledge imputation and transition approach. First, we introduce a bidirectional feature fusion strategy that imputes missing image features and performs cross-modal fusion simultaneously. This allows us to generate reliable predictions even when images are missing. Second, we propose a Uni-to-Multi modal Knowledge Distillation (U2MKD) framework, leveraging the transfer of informative features from a single-modality teacher to a cross-modality student. This overcomes the issues of augmentation misalignment and enables us to train the student effectively. Extensive experiments on the nuScenes, Waymo, and SemanticKITTI datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. Notably, our method achieves an 8.3 mIoU gain over the LiDAR-only baseline on the nuScenes validation set and achieves state-of-the-art performance on the three datasets.

Background: The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, as a reliable marker of insulin resistance, is associated with the incidence and poor prognosis of various cardiovascular diseases. However, the relationship between the TyG index and clinical outcomes in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) remains unclear., Methods: This study consecutively enrolled 1569 patients with AS underwent TAVR at West China Hospital of Sichuan University between April 2014 and August 2023. The outcomes of interest included all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Multivariate adjusted Cox regression and restricted cubic splines (RCS) regression analyses were used to assess the associations between the TyG index and the clinical outcomes. The incremental prognostic value of the TyG index was further assessed by the time-dependent Harrell's C-index, integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) and the net reclassification improvement (NRI)., Results: During a median follow-up of 1.09 years, there were 146, 70, and 196 patients experienced all-cause death, cardiovascular death, and MACE, respectively. After fully adjusting for confounders, a per-unit increase of TyG index was associated with a 441% (adjusted HR: 5.41, 95% CI: 4.01-7.32), 385% (adjusted HR: 4.85, 95% CI: 3.16-7.43), and 347% (adjusted HR: 4.47, 95% CI: 3.42-5.85) higher risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality and MACE, respectively. The RCS regression analyses revealed a linear association between TyG index and endpoints (all P for non-linearity > 0.05) with 8.40 as the optimal binary cutoff point. Furthermore, adding TyG index to the basic risk model provided a significant incremental value in predicting poor prognosis (Time-dependent Harrell's C-index increased for all the endpoints; All-cause mortality, IDI: 0.11, P < 0.001; NRI: 0.32, P < 0.001; Cardiovascular mortality, IDI: 0.043, P < 0.001; NRI: 0.37, P < 0.001; MACE, IDI: 0.092, P < 0.001; NRI: 0.32, P < 0.001)., Conclusions: In patients with severe AS receiving TAVR, there was a positive linear relationship between TyG index and poor prognosis, with 8.4 as the optimal bivariate cutoff value. Motivation: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in gene expression and their involvement in tumorigenesis is emerging. circRNA-related database is a powerful tool for researchers to investigate circRNAs. However, existing databases lack advanced platform integrating comprehensive information and analysis tools of cancer-related circRNAs., Results: We developed a comprehensive platform called CircRNA to Cancer Database (C2CDB), encompassing 318 158 cancer-related circRNAs expressed in tumors and adjacent tissues across 30 types of cancers. C2CDB provides basic details such as sequence and expression levels of circRNAs, as well as crucial insights into biological mechanisms, including miRNA binding, RNA-binding protein interaction, coding potential, base modification, mutation, and secondary structure. Moreover, C2CDB collects an extensive compilation of published literature on cancer circRNAs, extracting and presenting pivotal content encompassing biological functions, underlying mechanisms, and molecular tools in these studies. Additionally, C2CDB offers integrated tools to analyse three potential mechanisms: circRNA-miRNA ceRNA interaction, circRNA encoding, and circRNA biogenesis, facilitating investigators with convenient access to highly reliable information. Aerobic granular sludge (AGS) capable of nitrogen and phosphorus removal is mainly limited to the applications in sequencing batch reactors. This study introduced an innovative continuous self-circulating up-flow fluidized bed process (Zier process) using separate aeration. The process was composed of an anoxic column (Zier-A), aeration column (Zier-OO) and aerobic column (Zier-O), and was used to treat actual municipal sewage continuously for 170 days. The process achieved self-circulation of 20-32 times and an up-flow velocity within the reactor of 7-16 m/h which were accurately controlled with only separate aeration. The larger proportion of self-circulating multiple times contributed to particle formation and stability, providing hydraulic shear conditions, and screened the precipitation performance of the granular sludge (GS). Meanwhile, the dissolved oxygen (DO) of Zier-O was controlled at 0.1-0.3 mg/L, and the DO of Zier-A input water was zero. The accurate oxygen supply enhanced simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) as well as short-cut nitrification and denitrification in Zier-O and improved the COD utilization rate and the nitrogen removal rate in Zier-A. The COD treatment capacity reached 2.46 kg-COD/(m³·d). With a hydraulic retention time of 10 h, the process consistently ensured that the average concentrations of ammonia nitrogen and total nitrogen in the effluent were maintained below 5 and 15 mg/L, respectively. Moreover, the process maintained the shape and stability of GS, the median diameter of GS ranged between 300-1210 μm, the percentage of mass with particle size distribution < 200 μm at a height of 150 cm within Zier-A and Zier-O accounted for as low as 0.04%-0.05%, and showed good settling performance. The suspended solids in effluent can be maintained at 50-80 mg/L. Mechanochemistry studies the effect of mechanical force on chemical bonds, bringing opportunities for synthesizing alloys, ceramics, organics, polymers, and biomaterials. A vital issue of applying macro-scale mechanical force to manipulate crystal structures is finding ways to precisely adjust the force directions to break micro-scale target chemical bonds. Inspired by a common technique of driving a wedge into the wood to make wood chopping much easier, a wedging strategy of splitting three-dimensional structured crystalline frameworks and then converting them to nanosheets was proposed, where specific molecules were wedged into crystalline frameworks to drive the directional transmission of mechanical force to break chemical bonds. As a result, various crystalline framework nanosheets including metal-organic framework nanosheets, covalent organic framework nanosheets, and coordination polymer nanosheets were fabricated. Background: Overexpression of receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 1 (ROR1) contributes to cancer cell proliferation, survival and migration, playing crucial roles in tumor development. ROR1 has been proposed as a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment. This study aimed to develop novel humanized ROR1 monoclonal antibodies and investigate their anti-tumor effects., Methods: ROR1 expression in tumor tissues and cell lines was analyzed by immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. Antibodies from mouse hybridomas were humanized by the complementarity-determining region (CDR) grafting technique. Surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, ELISA assay and flow cytometry were employed to characterize humanized antibodies. In vitro cellular assay and in vivo mouse experiment were conducted to comprehensively evaluate anti-tumor activity of these antibodies., Results: ROR1 exhibited dramatically higher expression in lung adenocarcinoma, liver cancer and breast cancer, and targeting ROR1 by short-hairpin RNAs significantly inhibited proliferation and migration of cancer cells. Two humanized ROR1 monoclonal antibodies were successfully developed, named h1B8 and h6D4, with high specificity and affinity to ROR1 protein. Liver cancer is one of the most prevalent malignant tumors worldwide. According to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging criteria, clinical guidelines provide tutorials to clinical management of liver cancer at their individual stages. However, most patients diagnosed with liver cancer are at advanced stage; therefore, many researchers conduct investigations on targeted therapy, aiming to improve the overall survival of these patients. To date, small-molecule-based targeted therapies are highly recommended (first line: sorafenib and lenvatinib; second line: regorafenib and cabozantinib) by current the clinical guidelines of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society for Medical Oncology, and National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Herein, we summarize the small-molecule-based targeted therapies in liver cancer, including the approved and preclinical therapies as well as the therapies under clinical trials, and introduce their history of discovery, clinical trials, indications, and molecular mechanisms. For drug resistance, the revealed mechanisms of action and the combination therapies are also discussed. In fact, the known small-molecule-based therapies still have limited clinical benefits to liver cancer patients. Background: This research aimed to create a predictive model and an innovative risk classification system for patients with gallbladder cancer who undergo radical surgery., Methods: A cohort of 1387 patients diagnosed with gallbladder cancer was selected from the SEER database. The researchers devised a prognostic tool known as a nomogram, which was subjected to assessment and fine-tuning using various statistical measures such as the concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and calibration curve, decision curve analysis (DCA), and risk stratification were included in the catalog of comparisons. An external validation set comprising 93 patients from Nanchong Central Hospital was gathered for evaluation purposes., Results: The nomogram effectively incorporated seven variables and demonstrated satisfactory discriminatory ability, as evidenced by the C-index (training cohort: 0.737, validation cohort: 0.730) and time-dependent AUC (>0.7). Additionally, calibration plots confirmed the excellent alignment between the nomogram and actual observations. Our investigation unveiled NRI scores of 0.79, 0.81, and 0.81 in the training group, while the validation group exhibited NRI values of 0.82, 0.77, and 0.78. Introduction: Mild stenosis [degree of stenosis (DS) < 50%] is commonly labeled as nonobstructive lesion. Some lesions remain stable for several years, while others precipitate acute coronary syndromes (ACS) rapidly. The causes of ACS and the factors leading to diverse clinical outcomes remain unclear. Method: This study aimed to investigate the hemodynamic influence of mild stenosis morphologies in different coronary arteries. The stenoses were modeled with different morphologies based on a healthy individual data. Computational fluid dynamics analysis was used to obtain hemodynamic characteristics, including flow waveforms, fractional flow reserve (FFR), flow streamlines, time-average wall shear stress (TAWSS), and oscillatory shear index (OSI). Results: Numerical simulation indicated significant hemodynamic differences among different DS and locations. In the 20%-30% range, significant large, low-velocity vortexes resulted in low TAWSS (<4 dyne/cm 2 ) around stenoses. In the 30%-50% range, high flow velocity due to lumen area reduction resulted in high TAWSS (>40 dyne/cm 2 ), rapidly expanding the high TAWSS area (averagely increased by 0.46 cm 2 ) in left main artery and left anterior descending artery (LAD), where high OSI areas remained extensive (>0.19 cm 2 ). Discussion: While mild stenosis does not pose any immediate ischemic risk due to a FFR > 0.95, 20%-50% stenosis requires attention and further subdivision based on location is essential. Rapid progression is a danger for lesions with 20%-30% DS near the stenoses and in the proximal LAD, while lesions with 30%-50% DS can cause plaque injury and rupture. Globally, Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most widespread chronic neurodegenerative disorder, leading to cognitive impairment, such as aphasia and agnosia, as well as mental symptoms, like behavioral abnormalities, that place a heavy psychological and financial burden on the families of the afflicted. Coupling by metal-carbene transfer enables the formation of several different bonds at the carbenoid site, enabling prochiral C sp 3 centers that are fundamental three-dimensional substructures for medicines to be forged with increased efficiency. However, strategies using bulk chemicals are rare because of the challenge of breaking two unactivated geminal bonds. Herein, we report the reactivity of ethers to form metal-carbene intermediate by cleavage of α-C sp 3 -H/C sp 3 -O bonds, which achieve selective coupling with arylmagnesium bromides and chlorosilanes. These couplings are catalysed by cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene-chromium complex and enable the one-step formation of 1,n-arylsilyl alcohols and α-arylated silanes. Mechanistic studies indicate that the in-situ formed low-valent Cr might react with iodobenzene to form phenyl radical species, which abstracts the α-H atom of ether in giving α-oxy radical. The solar-driven overall water splitting (2H 2 O→2H 2 + O 2 ) is considered as one of the most promising strategies for reducing carbon emissions and meeting energy demands. However, due to the sluggish performance and high H 2 cost, there is still a big gap for the current photocatalytic systems to meet the requirements for practical sustainable H 2 production. Economic feasibility can be attained through simultaneously generating products of greater value than O 2 , such as hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 , 2H 2 O→H 2 + H 2 O 2 ). Compared with overall water splitting, this approach is more kinetically feasible and generates more high-value products of H 2 and H 2 O 2 . In several years, there has been an increasing surge in exploring the possibility and substantial progress has been achieved. In this review, a concise overview of the importance and underlying principles of PIWS is first provided. Next, the reported typical photocatalysts for PIWS are discussed, including commonly used semiconductors and cocatalysts, essential design features of these photocatalysts, and connections between their structures and activities, as well as the selected approaches for enhancing their stability. Then, the techniques used to quantify H 2 O 2 and the operando characterization techniques that can be employed to gain a thorough understanding of the reaction mechanisms are summarized. Finally, the current existing challenges and the direction needing improvement are presented. Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a severe and common autoimmune disease. Conventional diagnostic methods are often subjective, error-prone, and repetitive works. There is an urgent need for a method to detect RA accurately. Therefore, this study aims to develop an automatic diagnostic system based on deep learning for recognizing and staging RA from radiographs to assist physicians in diagnosing RA quickly and accurately., Methods: We develop a CNN-based fully automated RA diagnostic model, exploring five popular CNN architectures on two clinical applications. The model is trained on a radiograph dataset containing 240 hand radiographs, of which 39 are normal and 201 are RA with five stages. For evaluation, we use 104 hand radiographs, of which 13 are normal and 91 RA with five stages., Results: The CNN model achieves good performance in RA diagnosis based on hand radiographs. For the RA recognition, all models achieve an AUC above 90% with a sensitivity over 98%. In particular, the AUC of the GoogLeNet-based model is 97.80%, and the sensitivity is 100.0%. For the RA staging, all models achieve over 77% AUC with a sensitivity over 80%. Specifically, the VGG16-based model achieves 83.36% AUC with 92.67% sensitivity., Conclusion: The presented GoogLeNet-based model and VGG16-based model have the best AUC and sensitivity for RA recognition and staging, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of CNN in radiograph-based RA diagnosis. Background: The accurate selection of patients likely to respond to renal denervation (RDN) is crucial for optimizing treatment outcomes in patients with hypertension. This systematic review was designed to evaluate patient-specific factors predicting the RDN response., Methods and Results: We focused on individuals with hypertension who underwent RDN. Patients were categorized based on their baseline characteristics. The primary outcome was blood pressure (BP) reduction after RDN. Both randomized controlled trials and nonrandomized studies were included. We assessed the risk of bias using corresponding tools and further employed the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach to assess the overall quality of evidence. A total of 50 studies were ultimately included in this systematic review, among which 17 studies were for meta-analysis. Higher baseline heart rate and lower pulse wave velocity were shown to be associated with significant antihypertensive efficacy of RDN on 24-hour systolic BP reduction (weighted mean difference, -4.05 [95% CI, -7.33 to -0.77]; weighted mean difference, -7.20 [95% CI, -9.79 to -4.62], respectively). In addition, based on qualitative analysis, higher baseline BP, orthostatic hypertension, impaired baroreflex sensitivity, and several biomarkers are also reported to be associated with significant BP reduction after RDN., Conclusions: In patients with hypertension treated with the RDN, higher heart rate, and lower pulse wave velocity were associated with significant BP reduction after RDN. Other factors, including higher baseline BP, hypertensive patients with orthostatic hypertension, BP variability, impaired cardiac baroreflex sensitivity, and some biomarkers are also reported to be associated with a better BP response to RDN.

Background: Identifying risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) is critical for effective prevention and management. While classic CVD risk factors have been extensively studied, there is a scarcity of research on the association between snoring and CVD risk, particularly in the context of sex differences., Methods: This study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2015 and 2020. Participants were initially categorized based on the severity of snoring or the presence of snoring.Within the snoring group, they were further classified by sex. Analysis was carried out using multivariate logistic regression., Results: Our study included 12,681 participants aged 18 years or older. When compared to the non-snoring group, individuals in the moderate snoring group had a higher odds ratio (OR) of 1.418 (95% CI 1.083 to 1.857, p = 0.011), while those in the severe snoring group had a higher OR of 1.882 (95% CI 1.468 to 2.409, p < 0.001). In the snoring group, individuals were further categorized by gender: 4527 males and 4131 females. Importantly, male patients showed a higher OR for atrial fibrillation (4.945, 95% CI 1.187 to 20.598, p = 0.028) compared to females. Additionally, male patients had a higher OR for coronary heart disease (2.002, 95% CI 1.152 to 3.479, p = 0.014) compared to females., Conclusion: Sex plays a significant role in the relationship between snoring and CVD risk. Males with snoring have a higher risk of developing CVD compared to females. In particular, male snorers are nearly five times more likely to develop atrial fibrillation and about twice as likely to experience coronary artery disease in comparison to female snorers. Receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 1 (ROR1) is an oncogenic membrane protein in several malignancies and has been considered an attractive target for the treatment of human cancers. In this study, structure-based virtual screening and structure optimization were conducted to identify novel ROR1 inhibitors. Based on hit compound 2 , 45 novel ROR1 inhibitors were designed and synthesized, and the detailed structure-activity relationship was investigated. Representative compound 19h potently binds ROR1 with a K D value of 0.10 μM, exhibiting antitumor activity in lung cancer and breast cancer cell lines (IC 50 : 0.36-1.37 μM). Additionally, a mechanism investigation demonstrated that compound 19h induces the apoptosis of tumor cells. Importantly, compound 19h significantly suppressed tumor growth in a mouse model without obvious toxicity. Overall, this work identified compound 19h as a new ROR1 inhibitor, providing a novel lead compound for the treatment of lung cancer and breast cancer.

Background: Vertical jumping is an important evaluation tool to measure muscle strength and power as well as lower limb symmetry. It is of practical importance and value to develop and utilize a portable and low-cost mobile application (APP) to evaluate jumping. The "My Jump 2" app is an iPhone camera-based application for measuring jumping movements, which is applied to the countermovement jump (CMJ) vertical jumps of the lower limbs of athletes in different sports. The validity of this application and previous versions applied to different forms of vertical jump tests has been preliminarily demonstrated in different population, which has an obvious progress in research. Therefore, the reliability and validity of the jump height, time of flight parameters and symmetry of the CMJ vertical jump of athletes in different sports are needed to be verified by more experiments., Purpose: The purpose of this study is to verify whether "My Jump 2" can effectively and reliably assess jump height, flight practice and lower limb symmetry in CMJAM (countermovement jump free arm) tests in fencing, swimming and diving athletes., Methods: Seventy-nine fencers, swimmers and divers with training experience participated in this study. They completed a total of three CMJAM vertical jump and lower limb symmetry tests in 1 day, while being assessed by using the "My Jump 2" application and a force platform. The intra-group correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to verify reliability, while the Cronbach's alpha and coefficient of variation (CV%) was used to analyze the stability of the CMJAM vertical jump test over three jumps. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to verify the strength of the relationship between methods ( i.e ., concurrent validity), and the Bland-Altman plot was used to represent consistency, meanwhile, the t-test was used to determine the systematic bias between methods., Results: Compared with the force platform, the cumulative height values of the total number of jumps (r = 0.999; p = 0.000), the cumulative time to vacate (r = 0.999; p = 0.000) for the CMJAM test obtained by the "My Jump 2" application, the height (ICC = 0.999-1, p = 0.000), the time to vacate flight (ICC = 0.999-1, p = 0.000), contact time symmetry (ICC = 0.976-0.994, p = 0.000), and flight time symmetry (ICC = 0.921-0.982, p = 0.000), respectively. Objective. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are promising biometrics owning to their invisibility, adapting to the application scenarios with high-security requirements. However, It is challenging to explore EEG identity features without the interference of device and state differences of the subject across sessions. Existing methods treat training sessions as a single domain, affected by the different data distribution among sessions. Although most multi-source unsupervised domain adaptation (MUDA) methods bridge the domain gap between multiple source and target domains individually, relationships among the domain-invariant features of each distribution alignment are neglected. Approach. In this paper, we propose a MUDA method, Tensorized Spatial-Frequency Attention Network (TSFAN), to assist the performance of the target domain for EEG-based biometric recognition. Specifically, significant relationships of domain-invariant features are modeled via a tensorized attention mechanism. It jointly incorporates appropriate common spatial-frequency representations of pairwise source and target but also cross-source domains, without the effect of distribution discrepancy among source domains. Additionally, considering the curse of dimensionality, our TSFAN is approximately represented in Tucker format. Benefiting the low-rank Tucker Network, the TSFAN can scale linearly in the number of domains, providing us the great flexibility to extend TSFAN to the case associated with an arbitrary number of sessions. Main results. Extensive experiments on the representative benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of TSFAN in EEG-based biometric recognition, outperforming state-of-the-art approaches, as verified by cross-session validation. Significance. The proposed TSFAN aims to investigate the presence of consistent EEG identity features across sessions. It is achieved by utilizing a novel tensorized attention mechanism that collaborates intra-source transferable information with inter-source interactions, while remaining unaffected by domain shifts in multiple source domains. Artificially extracted agricultural phenotype information exhibits high subjectivity and low accuracy, while the utilization of image extraction information is susceptible to interference from haze. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the agricultural image dehazing method used for extracting such information is limited due to unclear texture details and color representation in the images. To address these limitations, we propose AgriGAN (unpaired image dehazing via a cycle-consistent generative adversarial network) for enhancing the dehazing performance in agricultural plant phenotyping. The algorithm incorporates an atmospheric scattering model to improve the discriminator model and employs a whole-detail consistent discrimination approach to enhance discriminator efficiency, thereby accelerating convergence towards Nash equilibrium state within the adversarial network. Finally, by training with network adversarial loss + cycle consistent loss, clear images are obtained after dehazing process. Copper (Cu) contamination represents a persistent and significant form of heavy metal pollution in agricultural ecosystems, posing serious threats to organisms in current society. Spiders serve as crucial biological indicators for assessing the impact of heavy metals-induced toxicity. However, the specific molecular responses of spiders to Cu exposure and the mechanisms involved are not well understood. In our study, the wolf pond spiders, Pirata subpiraticus, were exposed to Cu for 21 d, resulting in a notable decline in survival rates compared with the control (n = 50, p < 0.05). We observed an increased expression of enzymes like glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase (p < 0.05), signaling a strong oxidative stress response crucial for counteracting the harmful effects of reactive oxygen species. This response was corroborated by a rise in malondialdehyde levels (p < 0.05), a marker of lipid peroxidation and oxidative damage. Transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses revealed 2004 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 220 metabolites (DEMs). A significant number of these DEGs were involved in the glutathione biosynthetic process and antioxidant activity. A conjoint analysis revealed that under the Cu stress, several important enzymes and metabolites were altered (e.g., cathepsin A, legumain, and lysosomal acid lipase), affecting the activities of key biological processes and components, such as lysosome and insect hormone biosynthesis. Additionally, the protein interaction network analysis showed an up-regulation of processes like the apoptotic process, glutamate synthase activity, and peroxisome, suggesting that spiders activate cellular protective strategies to cope with stress and maintain homeostasis. Flexible metal-organic framework (MOF) adsorbents commonly encounter limitations in removing trace impurities below gate-opening threshold pressures. Topology reconfiguration can fundamentally eliminate intrinsic structural flexibility, yet remains a formidable challenge and is rarely achieved in practical applications. Herein, a solvent-mediated approach is presented to regulate the flexible CuSnF 6 -dpds-sql (dpds = 4,4''-dipyridyldisulfide) with sql topology into rigid CuSnF 6 -dpds-cds with cds topology. Notably, the cds topology is unprecedented and first obtained in anion-pillared MOF materials. As a result, rigid CuSnF 6 -dpds-cds exhibits enhanced C 2 H 2 adsorption capacity of 48.61 cm 3 g -1 at 0.01 bar compared to flexible CuSnF 6 -dpds-sql (21.06 cm 3 g -1 ). The topology transformation also facilitates the adsorption kinetics for C 2 H 2 , exhibiting a 6.5-fold enhanced diffusion time constant (D/r 2 ) of 1.71 × 10 -3 s -1 on CuSnF 6 -dpds-cds than that of CuSnF 6 -dpds-sql (2.64 × 10 -4 s -1 ). Multiple computational simulations reveal the structural transformations and guest-host interactions in both adsorbents. Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) leads to malignant brain edema, blood-brain barrier destruction, and neuronal apoptosis. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification in CIRI was still limited explored. In this study, MeRIP- and RNA-sequencing were performed of middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion (MCAO/R) rats to find novel potential molecular targets. Transcription factor TFAP2B stood out of which its m6A abundance decreased associated with a marked reduction of its mRNA based on cojoint interactive bioinformatics analysis of the MeRIP- and RNA-sequencing data. It was suggested TFAP2B could have a role in CIRI. Functionally, overexpression of TFAP2B in cultured primary neurons could effectively improve the cell survival and pro-survival autophagy in parallel with reduced cell apoptosis during OGD/R in vitro. Through the RNA-sequencing of TFAP2B overexpressed primary neurons and subsequent validation experiments, it was found that mitophagy receptor BNIP3 was one of the important targets of TFAP2B in OGD/R neurons through which TFAP2B could bind to its promoter region for transcriptional activation of BNIP3, thereby enhancing BNIP3-mediated mitophagy to protect against OGD/R injury of neurons. Lastly, TFAP2B was demonstrated to alleviate the MCAO/R damage to a certain extent in vivo. Previous studies have found a possible association between nickel and metabolic syndrome (MetS), but with conflicting results. No studies have determined whether nickel exposure increases the prevalence of MetS in the general U.S. population. Therefore, we used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to assess the association between urinary nickel and MetS. Since urinary nickel levels were presented as a skewed distribution, they were normalized using a logarithmic transformation. Weighted multivariate logistic models, restricted cubic spline, threshold effect analysis, and subgroup analyses were used to examine the association between urinary nickel concentration and the risk of MetS and its components. Based on data from 1577 participants, individuals in the second, third, and fourth quartiles of urinary nickel had an adjusted OR for MetS of 1.42 (95% CI: 0.88, 2.28), 2.00 (95% CI: 1.22, 3.28), and 1.68 (95% CI: 1.05, 2.70), respectively, representing an inverted "L"-shaped nonlinear dose-response relationship with an inflection point at 0.2141 ng/L. Patients over the age of 40, males, less educated, and smokers are more susceptible to nickel exposure. In addition, there were significant associations between nickel and most components of the MetS, with the strongest to weakest correlations being high fasting glucose, reduced high-density lipoprotein, abdominal obesity, and elevated blood pressure; however, there was no significant correlation between nickel and hyperlipidemia. Material anisotropy caused by crystal orientation is an essential factor affecting the mechanical and fracture properties of crystal materials. This paper proposes an improved ordinary state-based peridynamic (OSB-PD) model to study the effect of arbitrary crystal orientation on the granular fracture in cubic crystals. Based on the periodicity of the equivalent elastic modulus of a cubic crystal, a periodic function regarding the crystal orientation is introduced into peridynamic material parameters, and a complete derivation process and expressions of correction factors are given. In addition, the derived parameters do not require additional coordinate transformation, simplifying the simulation process. Through convergence analysis, a regulating strategy to obtain the converged and accurate results of crack propagation paths is proposed. The effects of crystal orientations on crack initiation and propagation paths of single-crystal materials with different notch shapes (square, equilateral triangle, semi-circle) and sizes were studied. The results show that variations in crystal orientation can change the bifurcation, the number, and the propagation path direction of cracks. Under biaxial tensile loading, single crystals with semi-circular notches have the slowest crack initiation time and average propagation speed in most cases and are more resistant to fracture. Finally, the effects of grain anisotropy on dynamic fractures in polycrystalline materials under different grain boundary coefficients were studied. The decrease in grain anisotropy degree can reduce the microcracks in intergranular fracture and the crack propagation speed in transgranular fracture, respectively.

Malignant tumors have increasing morbidity and high mortality, and their occurrence and development is a complicate process. The development of sequencing technologies enabled us to gain a better understanding of the underlying genetic and molecular mechanisms in tumors. In recent years, the spatial transcriptomics sequencing technologies have been developed rapidly and allow the quantification and illustration of gene expression in the spatial context of tissues. Compared with the traditional transcriptomics technologies, spatial transcriptomics technologies not only detect gene expression levels in cells, but also inform the spatial location of genes within tissues, cell composition of biological tissues, and interaction between cells. Here we summarize the development of spatial transcriptomics technologies, spatial transcriptomics tools and its application in cancer research. The exceptional photoelectromagnetic characteristics of rare-earth elements contribute significantly to their indispensable position in the high-tech industry. The exponential expansion of the demand for high-purity rare earth and related compounds can be attributed to the swift advancement of contemporary technology. Nevertheless, rare-earth elements are finite and limited resources, and their excessive mining unavoidably results in resource depletion and environmental degradation. Hence, it is crucial to establish a highly effective approach for the extraction and reclamation of rare-earth elements. Adsorption is regarded as a promising technique for the recovery of rare-earth elements owing to its simplicity, environmentally friendly nature, and cost-effectiveness. The efficacy of adsorption is contingent upon the performance characteristics of the adsorbent material. Presently, there is a prevalent utilization of porous adsorbent materials with substantial specific surface areas and plentiful surface functional groups in the realm of selectively separating and recovering rare-earth elements. This paper presents a thorough examination of porous inorganic carbon materials, porous inorganic silicon materials, porous organic polymers, and metal-organic framework materials. The adsorption performance and processes for rare-earth elements are the focal points of discussion about these materials. Furthermore, this work investigates the potential applications of porous materials in the domain of the adsorption of rare-earth elements.

This study demonstrated that fibrinogen is an independent risk factor for 10-year mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), with a U-shaped nonlinear relationship observed between the two. Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive and prevalent brain tumor that poses significant challenges in treatment. SRSF9, an RNA-binding protein, is essential for cellular processes and implicated in cancer progression. Yet, its function and mechanism in GBM need clarification., Methods: Bioinformatics analysis was performed to explore differential expression of SRSF9 in GBM and its prognostic relevance to glioma patients. SRSF9 and CDK1 expression in GBM cell lines and patients' tissues were quantified by RT-qPCR, Western blot or immunofluorescence assay. The role of SRSF9 in GBM cell proliferation and migration was assessed by MTT, Transwell and colony formation assays. Additionally, transcriptional regulation of CDK1 by SRSF9 was investigated using ChIP-PCR and dual-luciferase assays., Results: The elevated SRSF9 expression correlates to GBM stages and poor survival of glioma patients. Through gain-of-function and loss-of-function strategies, SRSF9 was demonstrated to promote proliferation and migration of GBM cells. Bioinformatics analysis showed that SRSF9 has an impact on cell growth pathways including cell cycle checkpoints and E2F targets. Mechanistically, SRSF9 appears to bind to the promoter of CDK1 gene and increase its transcription level, thus promoting GBM cell proliferation., Conclusions: These findings uncover the cellular function of SRSF9 in GBM and highlight its therapeutic potential for GBM., (© 2024. Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) technology is a non-contact physiological signal measurement method, characterized by non-invasiveness and ease of use. It has broad application potential in medical health, human factors engineering, and other fields. However, current rPPG technology is highly susceptible to variations in lighting conditions, head pose changes, and partial occlusions, posing significant challenges for its widespread application. In order to improve the accuracy of remote heart rate estimation and enhance model generalization, we propose PulseFormer, a dual-path network based on transformer. By integrating local and global information and utilizing fast and slow paths, PulseFormer effectively captures the temporal variations of key regions and spatial variations of the global area, facilitating the extraction of rPPG feature information while mitigating the impact of background noise variations. Heart rate estimation results on the popular rPPG dataset show that PulseFormer achieves state-of-the-art performance on public datasets. Additionally, we establish a dataset containing facial expressions and synchronized physiological signals in driving scenarios and test the pre-trained model from the public dataset on this collected dataset. The results indicate that PulseFormer exhibits strong generalization capabilities across different data distributions in cross-scenario settings. Tumors evade attacks from the immune system through various mechanisms. Here, we identify a component of tumor immune evasion mediated by YTH domain-containing family protein 2 (YTHDF2), a reader protein that usually destabilizes m 6 A-modified mRNA. Loss of tumoral YTHDF2 inhibits tumor growth and prolongs survival in immunocompetent tumor models. Mechanistically, tumoral YTHDF2 deficiency promotes the recruitment of macrophages via CX3CL1 and enhances mitochondrial respiration of CD8 + T cells by impairing tumor glycolysis metabolism. Tumoral YTHDF2 deficiency promotes inflammatory macrophage polarization and antigen presentation in the presence of IFN-γ. In addition, IFN-γ induces autophagic degradation of tumoral YTHDF2, thereby sensitizing tumor cells to CD8 + T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Last, we identified a small molecule compound that preferentially induces YTHDF2 degradation, which shows a potent antitumor effect alone but a better effect when combined with anti-PD-L1 or anti-PD-1 antibodies. Collectively, YTHDF2 appears to be a tumor-intrinsic regulator that orchestrates immune evasion, representing a promising target for enhancing cancer immunotherapy.

Background: The association of different body components, including lean mass and body fat, with the risk of death in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients are unclear., Methods: We enrolled adults diagnosed with ACS at our center between January 2011 and December 2012 and obtained follow-up outcomes via telephone questionnaires. We used restricted cubic splines (RCS) with the Cox proportional hazards model to analyze the associations between body mass index (BMI), predicted lean mass index (LMI), predicted body fat percentage (BF), and the value of LMI/BF with 10-year mortality. We also examined the secondary outcome of death during hospitalization., Results: During the maximum 10-year follow-up of 1398 patients, 331 deaths (23.6%) occurred, and a U-shaped relationship was found between BMI and death risk ( P nonlinearity = 0.03). After adjusting for age and history of diabetes, the overweight group (24 ≤ BMI < 28 kg/m 2 ) had the lowest mortality (HR = 0.53, 95% CI: 0.29-0.99). Predicted LMI and LMI/BF had an inverse linear relationship with a 10-year death risk ( P nonlinearity = 0.24 and P nonlinearity = 0.38, respectively), while an increase in BF was associated with increased mortality ( P nonlinearity = 0.64). During hospitalization, 31 deaths (2.2%) were recorded, and the associations of the indicators with in-hospital mortality were consistent with the long-term outcome analyses., Conclusion: Our study provides new insight into the "obesity paradox" in ACS patients, highlighting the importance of considering body composition heterogeneity. Skyrmions in existing 2D van der Waals (vdW) materials have primarily been limited to cryogenic temperatures, and the underlying physical mechanism of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), a crucial ingredient for stabilizing chiral skyrmions, remains inadequately explored. Here, we report the observation of Néel-type skyrmions in a vdW ferromagnet Fe 3-x GaTe 2 above room temperature. Contrary to previous assumptions of centrosymmetry in Fe 3-x GaTe 2 , the atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy reveals that the off-centered Fe ΙΙ atoms break the spatial inversion symmetry, rendering it a polar metal. First-principles calculations further elucidate that the DMI primarily stems from the Te sublayers through the Fert-Lévy mechanism. Remarkably, the chiral skyrmion lattice in Fe 3-x GaTe 2 can persist up to 330 K at zero magnetic field, demonstrating superior thermal stability compared to other known skyrmion vdW magnets. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) offer low costs and high power conversion efficiency. However, the lack of long-term stability, primarily stemming from the interfacial defects and the susceptible metal electrodes, hinders their practical application. In the past few years, two-dimensional (2D) materials (e.g., graphene and its derivatives, transitional metal dichalcogenides, MXenes, and black phosphorus) have been identified as a promising solution to solving these problems because of their dangling bond-free surfaces, layer-dependent electronic band structures, tunable functional groups, and inherent compactness. Here, recent progress of 2D material toward efficient and stable PSCs is summarized, including its role as both interface materials and electrodes. We discuss their beneficial effects on perovskite growth, energy level alignment, defect passivation, as well as blocking external stimulus. In particular, the unique properties of 2D materials to form van der Waals heterojunction at the bottom interface are emphasized. Finally, perspectives on the further development of PSCs using 2D materials are provided, such as designing high-quality van der Waals heterojunction, enhancing the uniformity and coverage of 2D nanosheets, and developing new 2D materials-based electrodes., (© 2024. Lymphocytes, which are highly sensitive to radiation, play a crucial role in the body's defense against tumors. Radiation-induced lymphopenia has been associated with poorer outcomes in different cancer types. Despite being the largest secondary lymphoid organ, the spleen has not been officially designated as an organ at risk. This study hypothesizes a connection between spleen irradiation and lymphopenia and seeks to establish evidence-based dosage limits for the spleen. We retrospectively analyzed data from 96 patients with locally advanced gastric cancer who received postoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) between May 2010 and May 2017. Complete blood counts were collected before, during and after CRT. We established a model for predicting the minimum absolute lymphocyte count (Min ALC) and to investigate potential associations between spleen dosimetric variables and Min ALC. The median follow-up was 60 months. The 5-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were 65.2% and 56.8%, respectively. The median values of pre-treatment ALC, Min ALC and post-treatment ALC were 1.40 × 109, 0.23 × 109 and 0.28 × 109/L, respectively. Regression analysis confirmed that the primary tumor location, number of fractions and spleen V5 were significant predictors of Min ALC during radiation therapy. Changes in ALC (ΔALC) were identified as an independent predictor of both OS and DFS. Spleen V5 is an independent predictor for Min ALC, and the maximum dose of the spleen is associated with an increased risk of severe lymphopenia. The Electrochemical reduction of nitrate to ammonia (NH 3 ) is a process of great significance to energy utilization and environmental protection. However, it suffers from sluggish multielectron/proton-involved steps involving coupling reactions between different reaction intermediates and active hydrogen species (H ads ) produced by water decomposition. In this study, a Ru-doped NiFe-MIL-53 (NiFeRu-MIL-53) supported on Ni foam (NF) has been designed for the nitrate reduction reaction (NO 3 RR). The NiFeRu-MIL-53 exhibits excellent NO 3 RR activity with a maximum Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 100% at -0.4 V vs. RHE for NH 3 and a maximum NH 3 yield of 62.39 mg h -1 cm -2 at -0.7 V vs. RHE in alkaline media. This excellent performance for the NO 3 RR is attributed to a strong synergistic effect between Ru and reconstructed NiFe(OH) 2 . Additionally, the doped Ru facilitates water dissociation, leading to an appropriate supply of H ads required for N species hydrogenation during NO 3 RR, thereby further enhancing its performance. Furthermore, in situ Raman analysis reveals that incorporating Ru facilitates the reconstruction of MOFs and promotes the formation of hydroxide active species during the NO 3 RR process. This work provides a valuable strategy for designing electrocatalysts to improve the efficiency of the reduction of electrochemical nitrate to ammonia.
