The replacement of agrochemicals by biomolecules is imperative to mitigate soil contamination and inactivation of its core microbiota. Within this context, this study aimed at the interaction between a biological control agent such as Trichoderma harzianum CCT 2160 (BF-Th) and the biosurfactants (BSs) derived from the native Brazilian yeast Starmerella bombicola UFMG-CM-Y6419. Thereafter, their potential in germination of Oryza sativa L. seeds was tested. Both bioproducts were produced on site and characterized according to their chemical composition by HPLC-MS and GC-MS for BSs and SDS-PAGE gel for BF-Th. The BSs were confirmed to be sophorolipids (SLs) which is a well-studied compound with antimicrobial activity. The biocompatibility was examined by cultivating the fungus with SLs supplementation ranging from 0.1 to 2 g/L in solid and submerged fermentation. In solid state fermentation the supplementation of SLs enhanced spore production, conferring the synergy of both bioproducts. For the germination assays, bioformulations composed of SLs, BF-Th and combined (SLT) were applied in the germination of O. sativa L seeds achieving an improvement of up to 30% in morphological aspects such as root and shoot size as well as the presence of lateral roots. It was hypothesized that SLs were able to regulate phytohormones expression such as auxins and gibberellins during early stage of growth, pointing to their novel plant-growth stimulating properties. Zinc (Zn) is a critical micronutrient that synergizes nutrient use efficiency, and improves plant growth and human health. Low Zn bioavailability in soils affects produce quality and agricultural productivity worldwide ultimately inducing deficiency in humans and animals. Zn deficiency is a leading cause of malnutrition in underdeveloped countries where a widespread population depends upon staple cereals for daily intake of calories. Modern cereal cultivars are inherently low in Zn, eventually, plants need to be enriched with soil application of ZnSO 4 , but due to higher fixation losses, it becomes an inefficient source. Rhizosphere microbiome contains Zn-solubilizing bacteria (ZSB) that improve Zn bioavailability, thus increase the root function, Zn uptake, and plant growth. Niha Corp developed a hybrid process of bioactive nutrient fortified fertilizer (BNFF), which has been used to formulate Zabardast Urea (ZU) by coating bioactive Zn (BAZ) and ZSB on urea. Data obtained for 15 wheat varieties from 119 farmer field demonstration plots and eight replicated trials on 42 locations across multi-environment conditions conclude that ZU significantly improved the plant biomass and yield by 12% over non-Zn control and produced grains with 57 μg/g Zn contents, which can meet a major part of the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of humans. The study recommends that this microbe-mediated hybrid invention (ZU) is a feasible approach to boost Zn bioavailability and Zn use efficiency, with enhanced yield and quality that may contribute to improve human health. Background: Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) can be an environment-friendly strategy to improve crop production in low-phosphorus (P) or P-deficient soils. The effect of indigenous mixed inocula of PSB on Agave angustifolia Haw. growth was assessed. The four treatments evaluated were T1 (Pseudomonas luteola + Enterobacter sp.), T2 (Pseudomonas luteola + Bacillus sp.), T3 (Pseudomonas luteola + Acinetobacter sp.), and T4 (control); each was replicated 25 times using a completely randomized design during 12 months under rain-fed conditions. Additionally, P solubilization in vitro of the mixed inocula with three different sources of inorganic P was tested., Results: The mixed inocula were able to solubilize more P from tricalcium phosphate Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 than from aluminum phosphate (AlPO 4 ) and iron phosphate (FePO 4 ). Relative to the control, T2 increased plant height by 22.9%, leaf dry weight by 391.4%, plant stem diameter by 49.6%, and root dry weight by 193.9%. The stem solid soluble content increased 50.0% with T1. Plant-available soil P increased 94.6% with T3 and 77.3% with T1. Soil alkaline phosphatase activity increased 85.9% with T1., Conclusion: T2 was the mixed inoculum that most improved Agave angustifolia plant growth. The indigenous mixed inocula of PSB evaluated appears to be a practical and efficient option for promoting field growth of Agave angustifolia plants. However, further research is necessary to achieve a deeper understanding of the relationships between different PSB species and their effects on agave, which may reveal some of the mechanisms of the synergistic interactions that are involved in the promotion of plant growth. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry., (© 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.)
