Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) necessitates comprehensive management, addressing complex challenges in social communication, behavioral regulation, and sensory processing, for which wearable technologies offer valuable tools to monitor and support interventions. Therefore, this review explores recent advancements in wearable technology, categorizing devices based on executive function, psychomotor skills, and the behavioral/emotional/sensory domain, highlighting their potential to improve ongoing management and intervention. To ensure rigor and comprehensiveness, the review employs a PRISMA-based methodology. Specifically, literature searches were conducted across diverse databases, focusing on studies published between 2014 and 2024, to identify the most commonly used wearables in ASD research. Notably, 55.45% of the 110 devices analyzed had an undefined FDA status, 23.6% received 510(k) clearance, and only a small percentage were classified as FDA Breakthrough Devices or in the submission process. Additionally, approximately 50% of the devices utilized sensors like ECG, EEG, PPG, and EMG, highlighting their widespread use in real-time physiological monitoring. Our work comprehensively analyzes a wide array of wearable technologies, including emerging and advanced. While these technologies have the potential to transform ASD management through real-time data collection and personalized interventions, improved clinical validation and user-centered design are essential for maximizing their effectiveness and user acceptance.

Introduction: Introduction: Low hand grip strength (HGS) is one of the criteria for diagnosing frailty and sarcopenia, it is associated with the risk of metabolic and mental diseases; Studies have shown that in patients with arterial hypertension (BP), low HGS represents a risk of incidence of cardiovascular disease and mortality, in addition to mortality from other causes; however, there are still no conclusive studies regarding the factors that determine HGS in BP., Objective: Identify the factors that influence low HGS in patients with BP., Material and Methods: Cross-sectional, observational, analytical case-control study. 100 patients with a diagnosis and treatment of HTN were included, and 100 controls matched by age and sex. Demographic data, self-report of physical activity, weight, height, body composition, and HGS were obtained. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square, were performed to look for differences in means, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Games-Howell post-hoc analysis. In all tests, a 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was considered., Results: The average age of the sample was 47.40 ± 0.54; The results of body composition between the study groups did not show statistically significant differences; However, when looking for difference in means between tertiles of relative strength for the elements of body composition, different factors were found that influence HGS., Conclusions: Body composition is what determines HGS in patients between 30 and 60 years of age, however in patients with BP it is visceral fat that is responsible for low HGS., (Licencia CC 4.0 (BY-NC-ND) © 2024 Revista Médica del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social.)

Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a devastating disease of wheat, causing yield losses, reduced grain quality, and mycotoxin contamination. Breeding can mitigate the severity of FHB epidemics, especially with genomics-assisted methods. The mechanisms underlying resistance to FHB in wheat have been extensively studied, including phenological traits and genome-wide markers associated with FHB severity. Here, we aimed to improve genomic prediction for FHB resistance across breeding programs by incorporating FHB-correlated traits and FHB-associated loci as model covariates. We combined phenotypic data on FHB severity, anthesis date, and plant height with genome-wide marker data from five Central European winter wheat breeding programs for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and genomic prediction. Within all populations, FHB was correlated with anthesis date and/or plant height, and a marker linked to the semi-dwarfing locus Rht-D1 was detected with GWAS for FHB. The revolution that we are seeing in the world of surgery will determine the way we understand surgical approaches in coming years. Since the implementation of minimally invasive surgery, innovations have constantly been developed to allow the laparoscopic approach to go further and be applied to more and more procedures. In recent years, we have been in the middle of another revolutionary era, with robotic surgery, the application of artificial intelligence and image-guided surgery. The latter includes 3D reconstructions for surgical planning, virtual reality, holograms or tracer-guided surgery, where ICG-guided fluorescence has provided a different perspective on surgery. ICG has been used to identify anatomical structures, assess tissue perfusion, and identify tumors or tumor lymphatic drainage. But the most important thing is that this technology has come hand in hand with the potential to develop other types of tracers that will facilitate the identification of tumor cells and ureters, as well as different light beams to identify anatomical structures. These will lead to other types of systems to assess tissue perfusion without the use of tracers, such as hyperspectral imaging. Combined with the upcoming introduction of ICG quantification, these developments represent a real revolution in the surgical world. The heterogenicity of antimicrobial resistance genes described in clinically significant bacterial isolates and their potential role in reducing the efficacy of classically effective antibiotics pose a major challenge for global healthcare, especially in infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. We analyzed 112 multidrug-resistant (MDR) isolates from clinical samples in order to detect high resistance profiles, both phenotypically and genotypically, among four Gram-negative genera ( Acinetobacter , Escherichia , Klebsiella, and Pseudomonas ). We found that 9.8% of the total selected isolates were classified as extensively drug-resistant (XDR) (six isolates identified as A. baumannii and five among P. pneumoniae isolates). All other isolates were classified as MDR. Almost 100% of the isolates showed positive results for bla OXA-23 and bla NDM-1 genes among the A. baumannii samples, one resistance gene ( bla CTX-M ) among E. coli , and two genetic determinants ( bla CTX-M and aac(6')-Ib ) among Klebsiella . In contrast, P. aeruginosa showed just one high-frequency antibiotic resistance gene ( dfrA ), which was present in 68.42% of the isolates studied. We also describe positive associations between ampicillin and cefotaxime resistance in A. baumannii and the presence of bla VEB and bla GES genes, as well as between the aztreonam resistance phenotype and the presence of bla GES gene in E. coli . These data may be useful in achieving a better control of infection strategies and antibiotic management in clinical scenarios where these multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens cause higher morbidity and mortality.

Purpose: To describe and compare a peritoneal closure technique using cyanoacrylate glue (Glubran 2 ® , GEM, Cardiolink SL) with a microdroplet device (Glutack ® , GEM, Cardiolink SL) in laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair (TAPP) of inguinal hernia with the routinely used barbed suture peritoneal closure (V-Lock 3.0, Covidien France)., Materials and Methods: From January to August 2022, 60 patients undergoing TAPP repair for uni- or bilateral inguinal hernia were randomized into one of two groups. One using as mesh fixation and peritoneal closure the Glutack ® device with Glubran 2 ® cyanoacrylate glue (Glu-close group) and the other using mesh fixation with cyanoacrylate and peritoneal closure with V-lock 3.0 (Sut-close group), with a follow-up of 12 months. Demographic variables, operative time, peritoneal closure time, main surgical findings and main intra- and postoperative complications were analyzed prospectively., Results: 63 patients were included with no losses to follow-up. The mean operative time was 34 min (range 58.25) for the glu-close group and 40 (range 64.25) for the sut-close group, with no conversion (0%) for either group. The mean flap closure time was 1.18 min (SD 24 0.19) for the glu-close group and 3.24 min (SD 0.78) for the sut-close group, with statistically significant differences ( p < 0.001). The intraoperative complication rate was 0 for the glu-close group and 0 for the sut-close group, with no significant difference. The median hospital stay was 0.8 days (range, 0-1) for both groups. The median duration of follow-up was 12 months and none had hernia recurrence. The postoperative VAS score at the first and second check-up at 1 month and 3 months was 2.83 (SD 1.341) and 0.60 (SD 0.621) in the sut-close group and 1.03 (0.984) and 0.24 (SD 0.435) in the glue-close group, with significant differences ( p < 0.001 and p < 0.012)., Conclusion: The data demonstrated by the study are that the glue can be used safely to close the peritoneum and that the method provides a small, statistically significant but not clinically relevant reduction in the time to close the peritoneal flap, as well as in postoperative pain after surgery in short and medium term., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2024 Suárez-Grau, Navarro-Morales, Tallon-Aguilar, Morales-Conde and Padillo-Ruiz.)

Objective: To evaluate the safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of outpatient appendectomy in patients with uncomplicated acute appendicitis., Background: Given that acute appendicitis is the most common cause of acute abdomen, the introduction of outpatient appendectomy protocols could significantly improve the effectiveness and sustainability of health care systems., Methods: A total of 300 patients were enrolled from October 2018 to June 2021 in the PENDI-CSI randomized clinical trial: 149 were assigned to the outpatient surgery (OPS) group and 151 to the inpatient surgery (IPS) group, followed by 1 month postoperatively. All patients were aged older than 14 years and had uncomplicated acute appendicitis. Exclusion criteria were pregnancy, neoplasms, inflammatory bowel disease, and high anesthetic risk (ASA IV). The OPS group was discharged from the postanesthesia care unit while the IPS group was admitted., Results: In total, 128 patients in the OPS group (85.9%) were discharged without admission. Predictors whether patients in the OPS group had to be admitted were aged over 31 years [relative risk (RR): 2.42 (1.04-5.65)], hypertension [RR: 6.21 (3.22-11.97)], anesthetic risk II-III [RR: 2.63 (1.17-5.94)], previous abdominal surgery [RR: 3.34 (1.55-7.20)], postoperative pain with visual analog scale >6 [RR: 4.28 (2.67-6.86)], and postoperative fear [RR: 2.2 (1.04-4.67)]. There were no differences in terms of complications, readmissions, and reinterventions, and the perceived quality was similar in both groups. The outpatient modality produced savings of €1 034.97 per patient ( P < 0.001)., Conclusions: Outpatient appendectomy is safe and effective for uncomplicated acute appendicitis. Non-target species from agricultural areas might be exposed to sublethal pesticide concentrations favoring survival and reproduction of the resistance individuals. The objective of this study was to evaluate chlorpyrifos toxicity and detoxification enzymatic activities on three species (Hyalella curvispina, Heleobia parchappii and Girardia tigrina) from a drain channel with history of insecticide contamination (EF) and the Neuquén river (NR) in Argentina. Chlorpyrifos toxicity on amphipods (H. curvispina) and planarians (G. tigrina) from NR was about six- and two-fold higher than that of their counterparts from EF. Mean carboxylesterases (CarE) activities determined in the three species from NR were significantly different from EF, whereas mean glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activities were no significantly different. Finally, planarians from EF showed significantly higher mean 7-ethoxycoumarine O-deethylase (ECOD) activity than those from NR. Amphipods from both sites displayed similar ECOD activities. The present results suggest that chlorpyrifos resistance in amphipods from EF is not conferred by increased detoxification.

Purpose: This aim of this study was to compare the impact on hospital stay and short-term overall complications prior to and following the introduction of an outpatient preoperative ostomy education program to an existing inpatient ostomy education program., Design: A comparison cohort study., Subjects and Setting: One hundred thirty-eight consecutive patients undergoing ostomy surgery were included. One group (n = 65, 47%) was given an experimental preoperative ostomy education intervention, along with standard care including a postoperative educational intervention during the initial hospital course. A second group (n = 73, 53%) received the same standardized education in the postoperative period. Data were collected from a single tertiary center located in Seville, Spain, during a 12-month period between July 2014 and June 2015., Methods: Data were collected in 2 phases. Data from participants undergoing postoperative (standard) education were collected retrospectively. Data for the group receiving preoperative education were collective prospectively. Outcome variables were postoperative length of stay, surgical complications (severity was assessed by the Clavien-Dindo grading system), subsequent interventions, and readmission rates., Results: Analysis indicated no differences between the average length of postoperative hospital stay (12.32 days in the preoperative education group vs 12.76 days in the postoperative education group, P = .401). In contrast, overall complications, mortality, and readmission rates were significantly higher in the preoperative education program group (P = .027, P = .047, and P = .046, respectively)., Conclusions: Delivering a standardized educational intervention during the preoperative period versus postoperative education delivery during the ostomy surgery hospital course did not reduce length of stay. Purpose: To determine whether galectin-9 gene ( LGALS9 ) expression is correlated with cervical cancer progression, clinicopathological characteristics, and overall survival. To determine the biological processes and the abundance of tumour infiltrating immune cells related to the expression of LGALS9 ., Patients and Methods: The study was conducted in two phases: 1) The expression level of LGALS9 was determined using the data of 193 squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Biological processes and tumour infiltrating cells associated to LGALS9 expression were evaluated using gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and tumour immune estimation resource (TIMER). 2) Independently, galectin-9 was identified in 40 SCC samples by immunohistochemistry and optical density quantified using ImagePro ® software., Results: The LGALS9 gene showed increased expression in cervical cancer samples. A higher expression level in SCC was related to better overall survival and to early clinical stages. GSEA showed that tumours with higher expression of LGALS9 were enriched in immune pathways such as interferon&#95;alpha&#95;response, and complement, the analysis of TIMER database showed a positive correlation between the expression level of LGALS9 and the abundance of tumour infiltrating immune cells. In addition, higher expression of galectin-9 was found in biopsies of SCC patients at early clinical stages, showing a trend of better survival., Conclusion: Higher expression levels of LGALS9 and galectin-9 in SCC were related to early clinical stages and better prognosis. Key Message: NIRS of wheat grains as phenomic predictors for grain yield show inflated prediction ability and are biased toward grain protein content. Estimating the breeding value of individuals using genome-wide marker data (genomic prediction) is currently one of the most important drivers of breeding progress in major crops. Recently, phenomic technologies, including remote sensing and aerial hyperspectral imaging of plant canopies, have made it feasible to predict the breeding value of individuals in the absence of genetic marker data. This is commonly referred to as phenomic prediction. Hyperspectral measurements in the form of near-infrared spectroscopy have been used since the 1980 s to predict compositional parameters of harvest products. Moreover, in recent studies NIRS from grains was used to predict grain yield. The same studies showed that phenomic prediction can outperform genomic prediction for grain yield. The genome is static and not environment dependent, thereby limiting genomic prediction ability. Gene expression is tissue specific and differs under environmental influences, leading to a tissue- and environment-specific phenome, potentially explaining the higher predictive ability of phenomic prediction. Here, we compare genomic prediction and phenomic prediction from hyperspectral measurements of wheat grains for the prediction of a variety of traits including grain yield. We show that phenomic predictions outperform genomic prediction for some traits. However, phenomic predictions are biased toward the information present in the predictor. Future studies on this topic should investigate whether population parameters are retained in phenomic prediction as they are in genomic prediction. Aim: This study aimed to assess technical aspects and clinical results of a new minimally invasive technique in parastomal hernia (PSH) repair, full endoscopic retromuscular access, after 2 years of follow-up., Methods: Data from consecutive patients requiring minimally invasive ventral PSH repair were collected from 2019 to 2022. The inclusion criteria were patients aged between 18 and 80 years old with symptomatic PSH. Demographics and perioperative and postoperative data were collected. Postoperative pain and functional recovery were compared with preoperative data., Results: Twelve patients with symptomatic PSH were included. The mean PSH defect area was 16.2 cm 2 and the mean midline defect was 8.7 cm 2 . No intra-operative complications or conversion to open surgery were detected. One patient (8%) required postoperative readmission due to partial bowel obstruction symptoms that required catheterization of the stoma. Pain significantly worsened after the first postoperative day compared to preoperative data but improved after the first postoperative month compared to the first postoperative week and after the 90th postoperative day compared to the first postoperative month, with significant differences. Significant restriction improvement was identified when 30 days after surgery data were compared to preoperative data and when the 180th postoperative day results were compared to 30 days after surgery. The average follow-up was 29 months. During the follow-up no clinical or radiological recurrence was observed., Conclusion: This paper shows low rate of intra- and postoperative complications with significant improvement in terms of pain activities restriction compared to preoperatory. Background: Fibrous hamartoma of infancy is a benign tumor that typically arises within the first 2 years of life in the subcutaneous and lower dermal layers. Diagnosis can be challenging as it is a rare tumor, and the imaging appearance is not well known., Objective: To describe the imaging features in 4 cases of fibrous hamartoma of infancy focusing on ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance (MR) findings., Materials and Methods: In this retrospective IRB-approved study, informed consent was waived. We searched patient charts for histopathology-confirmed fibrous hamartoma of infancy diagnosis between November 2013 and November 2022. We found four cases, three boys and one girl, and the mean age was 1.4 years (5 months-3 years). The lesions were located in the axilla, posterior elbow, posterior neck, and lower back. All four patients underwent ultrasound evaluation of the lesion, and two patients also underwent MRI evaluation. The imaging findings were reviewed by consensus by two pediatric radiologists., Results: US imaging revealed subcutaneous lesions with variably defined hyperechoic regions and intervening hypoechoic bands resulting in a linear "serpentine" pattern or a "multiple semicircle" pattern. MR imaging evidenced heterogeneous soft tissue masses, localized in the subcutaneous fat, and showed hyperintense fat interspersed with hypointense septations on both T1- and T2-weighted images., Conclusion: Fibrous hamartoma of infancy has a suggestive appearance on US with heterogeneous, echogenic subcutaneous lesions with intervening hypoechoic portions, in parallel or circumferential arrangement that can be seen as a serpentine or semicircular pattern. On MRI, interspersed macroscopic fatty components show high signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted images and reduced signal on fat-suppressed inversion recovery images, with irregular peripheral enhancement., (© 2023. Key Message: A major yellow rust resistance QTL, QYr.nmbu.6A, contributed consistent adult plant resistance in field trials across Europe, China, Kenya and Mexico. Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici, causing wheat yellow rust (YR), is one of the most devastating biotrophic pathogens affecting global wheat yields. Owing to the recent epidemic of the PstS10 race group in Europe, yellow rust has become a reoccurring disease in Norway since 2014. As all stage resistances (ASR) (or seedling resistances) are usually easily overcome by pathogen evolution, deployment of durable adult plant resistance (APR) is crucial for yellow rust resistance breeding. In this study, we assessed a Nordic spring wheat association mapping panel (n = 301) for yellow rust field resistance in seventeen field trials from 2015 to 2021, including nine locations in six countries across four different continents. Nine consistent QTL were identified across continents by genome-wide association studies (GWAS). One robust QTL on the long arm of chromosome 6A, QYr.nmbu.6A, was consistently detected in nine out of the seventeen trials. Haplotype analysis of QYr.nmbu.6A confirmed significant QTL effects in all tested environments and the effect was also validated using an independent panel of new Norwegian breeding lines. Increased frequency of the resistant haplotype was found in new varieties and breeding lines in comparison to older varieties and landraces, implying that the resistance might have been selected for due to the recent changes in the yellow rust pathogen population in Europe., (© 2023. BackgroundAppropriate vaccination strategies have been key to controlling the outbreak of mpox outside endemic areas in 2022, yet few studies have provided information on mpox vaccine effectiveness (VE).AimTo assess VE after one dose of a third-generation smallpox vaccine against mpox when given as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) within 14 days.MethodsA survival analysis in a prospective cohort of close contacts of laboratory-confirmed mpox cases was conducted from the beginning of the outbreak in the region of Madrid in May 2022. The study included contacts of cases in this region diagnosed between 17 May and 15 August 2022. Follow up was up to 49 days. A multivariate proportional hazard model was used to evaluate VE in the presence of confounding and interaction.ResultsInformation was obtained from 484 close contacts, of which 230 were vaccinated within 14 days of exposure. Of the close contacts, 57 became ill during follow-up, eight vaccinated and 49 unvaccinated. The adjusted effectiveness of the vaccine was 88.8% (95% CI: 76.0-94.7). Among sexual contacts, VE was 93.6% (95% CI: 72.1-98.5) for non-cohabitants and 88.6% (95% CI: 66.1-96.2) for cohabitants.ConclusionPost-exposure prophylaxis of close contacts of mpox cases is an effective measure that can contribute to reducing the number of cases and eventually the symptoms of breakthrough infections. The continued use of PEP together with pre-exposure prophylaxis by vaccination and other population-targeted prevention measures are key factors in controlling an mpox outbreak.

Fragile X Messenger Ribonucleoprotein 1 (FMR1) gene mutations lead to fragile X syndrome, cognitive disorders, and, in some individuals, scoliosis and craniofacial abnormalities. Four-month-old (mo) male mice with deletion of the FMR1 gene exhibit a mild increase in cortical and cancellous femoral bone mass. However, consequences of absence of FMR1 in bone of young/aged male/female mice and the cellular basis of the skeletal phenotype remain unknown. We found that absence of FMR1 results in improved bone properties with higher bone mineral density in both sexes and in 2- and 9-mo mice. The cancellous bone mass is higher only in females, whereas, cortical bone mass is higher in 2- and 9-mo males, but higher in 2- and lower in 9-mo female FMR1-knockout mice. Furthermore, male bones show higher biomechanical properties at 2mo, and females at both ages. Absence of FMR1 increases osteoblast/mineralization/bone formation and osteocyte dendricity/gene expression in vivo/ex vivo/in vitro, without affecting osteoclasts in vivo/ex vivo. Thus, FMR1 is a novel osteoblast/osteocyte differentiation inhibitor, and its absence leads to age-, site- and sex-dependent higher bone mass/strength., (© 2023. The Author(s).)

The repair of inguinal hernia is one of the most frequently performed surgeries in General Surgery units. The laparoscopic approach for these hernias will be clearly considered as the gold standard, based on its advantages over the open approach. There are no clear advantages of the transabdominal preperitoneal approach (TAPP) over the totally preperitoneal approach (TEP), although it has been shown to be more reproducible, presenting a shorter learning curve, although it presents more possibilities of developing trocar site hernias. Laparoscopic TAPP could be superior to TEP in the following indications: incarcerated hernias, emergencies, previous preperitoneal surgery, previous Pfanestiel-type incision, recurrent hernias, inguinoscrotal hernias and obese, being also a better alternative for females. Robotic TAPP is a safe approach with similar results to laparoscopy; however, it is related to an increase in costs and operating time. The value of this technology for the repair of complex hernias (multiple recurrences, inguino-scrotal or after previous preperitoneal surgery) remains to be determined, since they represent a certain challenge for the conventional laparoscopic approach. On the other hand, robotic repair of inguinal hernias may be a way to reduce the learning curve before addressing complex ventral hernias. Finally, artificial intelligence applied to the laparoscopic approach to inguinal hernia will undoubtedly have a significant impact in the future especially to determine the best the indications for this approach, on the performance of a safer technique, on the correct selection of meshes and fixation mechanisms, and on learning curve., (Copyright © 2023 AEC. Objectives: Although long COVID-19 is widely recognized in adults, less information is available about this condition in children, especially in developing countries. Here, we studied the long-term symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection beyond 3 months and the associated risk factors in a pediatric population., Methods: This observational study included 639 Argentinian children and adolescents with previously confirmed COVID-19 from June 2020-June 2021 and 577 children without previous COVID-19. Parents completed a survey about symptoms that their child had for >3 months after the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection., Results: At least one persistent symptom was observed more frequently in children with previous COVID-19 than in the non-COVID-19 group (34% vs 13%, P <0.0001). SARS-CoV-2 infection increased the risk of headache, dizziness, loss of taste, dyspnea, cough, fatigue, muscle pain, and loss of weight by three- to seven-fold. The loss of smell was only reported in infected children. After controlling for the other variables, older age, symptomatic COVID-19, and comorbidities were independent predictors of long-term symptoms., Conclusions: One-third of children experienced persistent symptoms after COVID-19. Older age, symptomatic infection, and comorbidities were shown to be risk factors for long COVID-19. Key Message: We used a historical dataset on stripe rust resistance across 11 years in an Austrian winter wheat breeding program to evaluate genomic and pedigree-based linear and semi-parametric prediction methods. Stripe rust (yellow rust) is an economically important foliar disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) caused by the fungus Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici. Resistance to stripe rust is controlled by both qualitative (R-genes) and quantitative (small- to medium-effect quantitative trait loci, QTL) mechanisms. Genomic and pedigree-based prediction methods can accelerate selection for quantitative traits such as stripe rust resistance. Here we tested linear and semi-parametric models incorporating genomic, pedigree, and QTL information for cross-validated, forward, and pairwise prediction of adult plant resistance to stripe rust across 11 years (2008-2018) in an Austrian winter wheat breeding program. Semi-parametric genomic modeling had the greatest predictive ability and genetic variance overall, but differences between models were small. Including QTL as covariates improved predictive ability in some years where highly significant QTL had been detected via genome-wide association analysis. Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) are among the 10 causes of death worldwide. The effects of NDDs, including irreversible motor impairments, have an impact not only on patients themselves but also on their families and social environments. One strategy to mitigate the pain of NDDs is to early identify and remotely monitor related motor impairments using wearable devices. Technological progress has contributed to reducing the hardware complexity of mobile devices while simultaneously improving their efficiency in terms of data collection and processing and energy consumption. However, perhaps the greatest challenges of current mobile devices are to successfully manage the security and privacy of patient medical data and maintain reasonable costs with respect to the traditional patient consultation scheme. In this work, we conclude: (1) Falls are most monitored for Parkinson's disease, while tremors predominate in epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. These findings will provide guidance for wearable device manufacturers to strengthen areas of opportunity that need to be addressed, and (2) Of the total universe of commercial wearables devices that are available on the market, only a few have FDA approval, which means that there is a large number of devices that do not safeguard the integrity of the users who use them.

Key Message: We found two loci on chromosomes 2BS and 6AL that significantly contribute to stripe rust resistance in current European winter wheat germplasm. Stripe or yellow rust, caused by the fungus Puccinia striiformis Westend f. sp. tritici, is one of the most destructive wheat diseases. Sustainable management of wheat stripe rust can be achieved through the deployment of rust resistant cultivars. To detect effective resistance loci for use in breeding programs, an association mapping panel of 230 winter wheat cultivars and breeding lines from Northern and Central Europe was employed. Genotyping with the Illumina® iSelect® 25 K Infinium® single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping array yielded 8812 polymorphic markers. Structure analysis revealed two subpopulations with 92 Austrian breeding lines and cultivars, which were separated from the other 138 genotypes from Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, and Switzerland. Genome-wide association study for adult plant stripe rust resistance identified 12 SNP markers on six wheat chromosomes which showed consistent effects over several testing environments. Among these, two marker loci on chromosomes 2BS (RAC875&#95;c1226&#95;652) and 6AL (Tdurum&#95;contig29607&#95;413) were highly predictive in three independent validation populations of 1065, 1001, and 175 breeding lines. Lines with the resistant haplotype at both loci were nearly free of stipe rust symptoms. By using mixed linear models with those markers as fixed effects, we could increase predictive ability in the three populations by 0.13-0.46 compared to a standard genomic best linear unbiased prediction approach. Key Message: Association mapping and phenotypic analysis of a diversity panel of 238 bread wheat accessions highlights differences in resistance against common vs. dwarf bunt and identifies genotypes valuable for bi-parental crosses. Common bunt caused by Tilletia caries and T. laevis was successfully controlled by seed dressings with systemic fungicides for decades, but has become a renewed threat to wheat yield and quality in organic agriculture where such treatments are forbidden. As the most efficient way to address this problem is the use of resistant cultivars, this study aims to broaden the spectrum of resistance sources available for breeders by identifying resistance loci against common bunt in bread wheat accessions of the USDA National Small Grains Collection. We conducted three years of artificially inoculated field trials to assess common bunt infection levels in a diversity panel comprising 238 wheat accessions for which data on resistance against the closely related pathogen Tilletia controversa causing dwarf bunt was already available. Resistance levels against common bunt were higher compared to dwarf bunt with 99 accessions showing [Formula: see text] 1% incidence. Genome-wide association mapping identified six markers significantly associated with common bunt incidence in regions already known to confer resistance on chromosomes 1A and 1B and novel loci on 2B and 7A. Our results show that resistance against common and dwarf bunt is not necessarily controlled by the same loci but we identified twenty accessions with high resistance against both diseases. Background: Despite that pediatric COVID-19 is usually asymptomatic or mild, SARS-CoV-2 infection typically results in the development of an antibody response. Contradictory observations have been reported when the antibody response of children and adults were compared in terms of strength, specificity and perdurability., Methods: This observational study includes three cohorts infected with SARS-CoV-2 between March 2020-July 2021: unvaccinated infected children (n=115), unvaccinated infected adults (n=62), and vaccinated infected children (n=76). Plasma anti-spike IgG antibodies and neutralising activity against Wuhan, Delta and Omicron variants after 7-17 months post-infection were analysed., Findings: More than 95% of unvaccinated infected children and adults remained seropositive when evaluated at 382-491 and 386-420 days after infection, respectively. Anti-spike IgG titers and plasma neutralising activity against Wuhan, Delta and Omicron variants were higher in children compared to adults. No differences were found when unvaccinated infected children were stratified by age, gender or presence/absence of symptoms in the acute phase of SARS-CoV-2 infection, but a slight decrease in the antibody response was observed in those with comorbidities. Vaccination of previously infected children with two doses of the inactivated BBIBP-CorV or the mRNA vaccines, BNT162b2 and/or mRNA-1273, further increased anti-spike IgG titers and neutralising activity against Wuhan, Delta and Omicron variants., Interpretation: Unvaccinated infected children mount a more potent and sustained antibody response compared with adults, which is significantly increased after vaccination. Appropriate teaching-learning strategies lead to student engagement during learning activities. Scientific progress and modern technology have made it possible to measure engagement in educational settings by reading and analyzing student physiological signals through sensors attached to wearables. This work is a review of current student engagement detection initiatives in the educational domain. The review highlights existing commercial and non-commercial wearables for student engagement monitoring and identifies key physiological signals involved in engagement detection. Our findings reveal that common physiological signals used to measure student engagement include heart rate, skin temperature, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and electrocardiogram (ECG) data. Similarly, stress and surprise are key features of student engagement.

Up to 22 June 2022, 508 confirmed cases of monkeypox (MPX) have been reported in the Madrid region of Spain, 99% are men (n = 503) with a median age of 35 years (range: 18-67). In this ongoing outbreak, 427 cases (84.1%) reported condomless sex or sex with multiple partners within the 21 days before onset of symptoms, who were predominantly men who have sex with men (MSM) (n = 397; 93%). Both the location of the rash, mainly in the anogenital and perineal area, as well as the presence of inguinal lymphadenopathy suggest that close physical contact during sexual activity played a key role in transmission. Several cases reported being at a sauna in the city of Madrid (n = 34) or a mass event held on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria (n = 27), activities which may represent a conducive environment for MPX virus spread, with many private parties also playing an important role. Because of the rapid implementation of MPX surveillance in Madrid, one of the largest outbreaks reported outside Africa was identified. To minimise transmission, we continue to actively work with LGBTIQ+ groups and associations, with the aim of raising awareness among people at risk and encouraging them to adopt preventive measures.

Background: Pesticide quantitation in foods relies on the availability of matrix reference materials, which, however, are scarce because of the general instability of pesticides. In particular, no avocado reference material has been developed., Objective: This research aimed to develop a reference material to support the determination of pesticide residues in avocado., Method: Avocado was spiked with 11 selected pesticides at levels of 0.01-0.35 mg/kg. The production process included the assessment of between-unit heterogeneity, stability during dispatch, and best storage conditions according to ISO 17034. Reference values were estimated through an interlaboratory comparison study involving laboratories of demonstrated competence and adhering to ISO/IEC 17025. The corresponding expanded uncertainties were calculated as 4-19% in compliance with the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement., Results: The reference material was sufficiently homogeneous and stable at 4°C during the entire study period (365 days) for most of the pesticides, and at 40°C during 10 days, but it was unstable at 50 and 60°C during 10 days. Four pesticides showed downward trends; however, this behavior was considered in the uncertainty budget. As this material complied with all requirements of proficiency testing, it was used in an interlaboratory proficiency test designed to investigate analytical performance and assist laboratories in improving the quality of measurement results., Conclusions: The presented material can be used for the development of novel analytical methods or in-house reference materials and adds to the scarce supply of reference materials for the determination of pesticides in vegetable matrixes with high oil contents and intermediate water contents., Highlights: A novel reference material has been developed for the reliable and accurate quantitation of multiple pesticides in avocado, allowing researchers to avoid the preparation of in-house reference materials for this purpose., (© The Author(s) 2022. Seven months after the launch of a pilot study to screen newborns for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in New York State, New York City became an epicenter of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. All in-person research activities were suspended at the study enrollment institutions of Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospitals, and study recruitment was transitioned to 100% remote. Pre-pandemic, all recruitment was in-person with research staff visiting the postpartum patients 1-2 days after delivery to obtain consent. With the onset of pandemic, the multilingual research staff shifted to calling new mothers while they were in the hospital or shortly after discharge, and consent was collected via emailed e-consent links. With return of study staff to the hospitals, a hybrid approach was implemented with in-person recruitment for babies delivered during the weekdays and remote recruitment for babies delivered on weekends and holidays, a cohort not recruited pre-pandemic. There was a drop in the proportion of eligible babies enrolled with the transition to fully remote recruitment from 64% to 38%. In addition, the proportion of babies enrolled after being approached dropped from 91% to 55%. With hybrid recruitment, the proportion of eligible babies enrolled (70%) and approached babies enrolled (84%) returned to pre-pandemic levels. Our experience adapting our study during the COVID-19 pandemic led us to develop new recruitment strategies that we continue to utilize. The lessons learned from this pilot study can serve to help other research studies adapt novel and effective recruitment methods.

Background: Nitric oxide and GnRH are biological factors that participate in the regulation of reproductive functions. To our knowledge, there are no studies that link NO and GnRH in the sympathetic ganglia. Thus, the aim of the present work was to investigate the influence of NO on GnRH release from the coeliac ganglion and its effect on luteal regression at the end of pregnancy in the rat., Methods: The ex vivo system composed by the coeliac ganglion, the superior ovarian nerve, and the ovary of rats on day 21 of pregnancy was incubated for 180 min with the addition, into the ganglionic compartment, of L-N G -nitro arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), a non-selective NO synthase inhibitor. The control group consisted in untreated organ systems., Results: The addition of L-NAME in the coeliac ganglion compartment decreased NO as well as GnRH release from the coeliac ganglion. In the ovarian compartment, and with respect to the control group, we observed a reduced release of GnRH, NO, and noradrenaline, but an increased production of progesterone, estradiol, and expression of their limiting biosynthetic enzymes, 3β-HSD and P450 aromatase, respectively. The inhibition of NO production by L-NAME in the coeliac ganglion compartment also reduced luteal apoptosis, lipid peroxidation, and nitrotyrosine, whereas it increased the total antioxidant capacity within the corpora lutea., Conclusion: Collectively, the results indicate that NO production by the coeliac ganglion modulates the physiology of the ovary and luteal regression during late pregnancy in rats., (© 2022. This multicenter clinical study was aimed at conducting a targeted pharmacogenomic association analysis of residual on-clopidogrel platelet reactivity in 474 Caribbean Hispanic patients. Platelet reactivity was measured using the VerifyNow P2Y12 assay and clopidogrel resistance was defined as P2Y12 reaction units (PRUs) greater than or equal to 208. Genotyping was performed using the whole-genome Infinium MEGA BeadChip array. An ancestry-adjusted, weighted polygenic risk score (wPGxRS) was developed to account for the effect of multiple variants on PRU and compared between clopidogrel responders and nonresponders. The mean PRU across the study cohort was 173.8 ± 68.5 and 33.5% of patients were defined as clopidogrel resistant. Multivariate linear regression showed that 19% of PRU variability was attributed to nine independent predictors, with CYP2C19*2 (rs4244285) accounting for ~ 7% of observed PRU variation (p < 0.001). PON1 rs662, ABCB1/MDR1 rs2032582, PEAR1 rs12041331 carrier status, and the interaction between African ancestry and rs12041331 carriers also predicted PRU among the participants (p ≤ 0.05). A clear gene-dose effect was detected between PRU and CYP2C19*2 genotype, consistent with previous studies in European patient populations, as well as rs12777823. Importantly, a significant positive correlation was detected between our novel wPGxRS (4 variants) and PRU among the Hispanic patient population (r p  = 0.35, p < 0.001). Moreover, the wPGxRS discriminated between nonresponders and responders (p = 0.003), indicating that this multigene-based score is a useful predictor of clopidogrel resistance among Caribbean Hispanics. Taken together, these results help close the gap of knowledge on clopidogrel pharmacogenomics and its potential clinical implementation in this under-represented population., (© 2021 The Authors. Key Message: We combined quantitative and population genetic methods to identify loci under selection for adult plant resistance to stripe rust in an Austrian winter wheat breeding population from 2008 to 2018. Resistance to stripe rust, a foliar disease caused by the fungus P. striiformis f. sp. tritici, in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is both qualitatively and quantitatively controlled. Resistance genes confer complete, race-specific resistance but are easily overcome by evolving pathogen populations, while quantitative resistance is controlled by many small- to medium-effect loci that provide incomplete yet more durable protection. Data on resistance loci can be applied in marker-assisted selection and genomic prediction frameworks. We employed genome-wide association to detect loci associated with stripe rust and selection testing to identify regions of the genome that underwent selection for stripe rust resistance in an Austrian winter wheat breeding program from 2008 to 2018. Genome-wide association mapping identified 150 resistance loci, 62 of which showed significant evidence of selection over time. Dysbiosis of the gut microbiota has been associated with different illnesses and emotional disorders such as stress. Traditional fermented foods that are rich in probiotics suggest modulation of dysbiosis, which protects against stress-induced disorders. The academic stress was evaluated in medical students using the SISCO Inventory of Academic Stress before and after ingestion of an aguamiel-based beverage fermented with Lactobacillus plantarum , Lactobacillus paracasei and Lactobacillus brevis (n = 27) and a control group (n = 18). In addition, microbial phyla in feces were quantified by qPCR. The results showed that the consumption of 100 mL of a beverage fermented with lactic acid bacteria (3 × 10 8 cfu/mL) for 8 weeks significantly reduced academic stress ( p = 0.001), while the control group (placebo intervention) had no significant changes in the perception of academic stress ( p = 0.607). Significant change ( p = 0.001) was shown in the scores for environmental demands, and physical and psychological factors. Consumption of the fermented beverage significantly increased the phyla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes but not Gammaproteobacteria. No significant changes were found in the control group, except for a slight increase in the phylum Firmicutes. The intake of this fermented beverage suggest a modulation of gut microbiota and possible reduction in stress-related symptoms in university students, without changing their lifestyle or diet.

The GnRH/GnRH receptor system has been found in several extrapituitary tissues, although its physiological significance has not yet been well established. Taking into account that the peripheral neural system can act as a modulator of pregnancy corpus luteum, the objective was to physiologically investigate the presence of the GnRH system in coeliac ganglion (CG) and to analyse its possible involvement in luteal regression through the superior ovarian nerve (SON) at the end of pregnancy in the rat. The integrated ex vivo CG-SON-Ovary system of rats on day 21 of pregnancy was used. Cetrorelix (CTX), a GnRH receptor antagonist, was added into the ganglionic compartment while the control systems were untreated. Ganglionic GnRH release was detected under basal conditions. Then, the CTX addition in CG increased it, which would indicate the blockade of the receptor. In turn, CTX in CG caused an increase in ovarian progesterone release. Furthermore, the luteal cells showed an increase in the expression of Hsd3b1 and a decrease in the expression of Akr1c3 (progesterone synthesis and degradation enzymes, respectively), reduced TUNEL staining according to an increase in the antioxidant defence system activity and low lipid peroxide levels. The ovarian and ganglionic nitric oxide (NO) release increased, while the luteal nitrotyrosine content, measured as nitrosative stress marker, decreased. CTX in CG decreased the ovarian noradrenaline release. The present study provides evidence that GnRH from CG may trigger neuronal signals that promote the luteal regression in late pregnancy by affecting the release of NO and noradrenaline in the ovary.

We study the self-organization process induced by a nonlocal critical field, in analogy with the electric field that is derived from the global spatial profile of electric charge density during a discharge. In this nontrivial extension of standard sandpilelike models of intermittent dissipation, the charges move in a similar manner to grains of sand when the threshold condition on the field is achieved. Here we focus our attention on the long term statistics of events, so that we consider an extremely simplified model in close similarity with sandpiles, avoiding some of the extremely interesting complexities that occur in three-dimensional electric discharges. For the observed avalanches (discharges in this case) we analyze four characteristic quantities: current, charge discharged, energy discharged, and duration of the discharge. We have run several simulations to explore the parameter space and found in general that they exhibit well defined power law event statistics spanning for one to three decades in general. For some parameter values we observe the existence of large or global events, in addition to the power law statistics, some of which may be related to finite size effects due to the size of the simulation box. This is the first step in understanding the long term statistics of systems with avalanches or discharges, when the criticality is controlled by nonlocality, as there are a number systems, such as lightning discharges or heat transport in tokamaks, where this type of dynamics is expected to occur.

In the last two decades, titanocene monochloride has been postulated as a monoelectronic transfer reagent capable of catalyzing an important variety of chemical transformations. In this Perspective, our contributions to this growing field of research are summarized and analyzed. Especially known have been our contributions in C-C bond formation reactions, hydrogen-atom transfer from water to radicals, and isomerization reactions, as well as the development of a catalytic cycle that has subsequently allowed the preparation of a great variety of natural terpenes. It is also worth mentioning our contribution in the postulation of this single-electron transfer agent (SET) as a new green catalyst with a broad range of applications in organic and organometallic chemistry. The most significant catalytic processes developed by other research groups are also briefly described, with special emphasis on the reaction mechanisms involved. Finally, a reflection is made on the future trends in the research of this SET, aimed at consolidating this chemical as a new green reagent that will be widely used in fine chemistry, green chemistry, and industrial chemical processes.

A new concise general methodology for the synthesis of different tetracyclic meroterpenoids is reported: (±)-aureol ( 1 ), the key intermediate of this general route. The synthesis of (±)-aureol ( 1 ) was achieved in seven steps (28% overall yield) from (±)-albicanol. The key steps of this route include a C-C bond-forming reaction between (±)-albicanal and a lithiated arene unit and a rearrangement involving 1,2-hydride and 1,2-methyl shifts promoted by BF 3 •Et 2 O as activator and water as initiator.

Genome-wide association (GWA) studies can identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) putatively underlying traits of interest, and nested association mapping (NAM) can further assess allelic series. Near-isogenic lines (NILs) can be used to characterize, dissect and validate QTL, but the development of NILs is costly. Previous studies have utilized limited numbers of NILs and introgression donors. We characterized a panel of 1270 maize NILs derived from crosses between 18 diverse inbred lines and the recurrent inbred parent B73, referred to as the nested NILs (nNILs). The nNILs were phenotyped for flowering time, height and resistance to three foliar diseases, and genotyped with genotyping-by-sequencing. Across traits, broad-sense heritability (0.4-0.8) was relatively high. The 896 genotyped nNILs contain 2638 introgressions, which span the entire genome with substantial overlap within and among allele donors. GWA with the whole panel identified 29 QTL for height and disease resistance with allelic variation across donors. To date, this is the largest and most diverse publicly available panel of maize NILs to be phenotypically and genotypically characterized. The nNILs are a valuable resource for the maize community, providing an extensive collection of introgressions from the founders of the maize NAM population in a B73 background combined with data on six agronomically important traits and from genotyping-by-sequencing. We demonstrate that the nNILs can be used for QTL mapping and allelic testing. Lifestyle has a determining influence on the progression of a chronic kidney disease (CKD), which starts with some kidney damage, that can remain and progress by the influence of risk factors and accumulate subsequent injury of kidney damage throughout life. It is more common in adults and frequently remains hidden from routine analysis, but if it can be detected early, treatment and healthy lifestyle can be applied, which would allow stopping or lengthening the progress of kidney damage, in order to avoid the need of a renal transplant or dialysis. The objective of this work was to show the possible lifestyles to apply, such as visits to the doctor, not smoking, have intense to moderate physical activity, consume enough vegetables and fruits, avoid diets high in carbohydrates and lipids. Primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) is a heterogeneous, inherited, and severe optical neuropathy caused by apoptotic degeneration of the retinal ganglion cell layer. Whole-exome sequencing analysis of one PCG family identified two affected siblings who carried a low-frequency homozygous nonsense GUCA1C variant (c.52G > T/p.Glu18Ter/rs143174402). This gene encodes GCAP3, a member of the guanylate cyclase activating protein family, involved in phototransduction and with a potential role in intraocular pressure regulation. Segregation analysis supported the notion that the variant was coinherited with the disease in an autosomal recessive fashion. GCAP3 was detected immunohistochemically in the adult human ocular ciliary epithelium and retina. To evaluate the ocular effect of GUCA1C loss-of-function, a guca1c knockout zebrafish line was generated by CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated the presence of GCAP3 in the non-pigmented ciliary epithelium and retina of adult wild-type fishes. Knockout animals presented up-regulation of the glial fibrillary acidic protein in Müller cells and evidence of retinal ganglion cell apoptosis, indicating the existence of gliosis and glaucoma-like retinal damage. In summary, our data provide evidence for the role of GUCA1C as a candidate gene in PCG and offer new insights into the function of this gene in the ocular anterior segment and the retina.

The main complication associated with renal graft loss is immune rejection. The gold standard for the diagnosis of renal graft rejection is percutaneous renal biopsy, which is expensive and can lead to complications. Inflammation is one of the main pathogenic pathways in allograft rejection, and urine samples seem to be efficient windows to explore the allograft condition with a high cost-benefit ratio. This study aimed to evaluate the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) profile expression pattern for interleukin (IL) 2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10; tumor necrosis factor alfa; gamma interferon; and transforming growth factor β1 in the urine renal cells of patients with a diagnosis of humoral rejection and patients with a diagnosis of normal biopsy. METHODS: An observational, cross-sectional analytical study was performed. All kidney transplants were performed at the Organ Transplant Department between 2018 and 2019. Also, a healthy control with a normal blood test and no apparent infection was included. mRNA from urine samples and biopsies was isolated, and the expression of interleukins was analyzed in PCR real time. Data were analyzed by Shapiro-Wilk and Kruskal-Wallis tests. RESULTS: The proinflammatory IL expression pattern in urine samples of kidney rejection group showed overexpression for IL-8 (P = .0001). No differences were observed in the rest of the interleukins analyzed. When we compared the results in the rejected versus not rejected transplanted patients with a group of apparently healthy subjects, the difference remains consistent. Thus, mRNA of IL-8 could function as a diagnostic tool in cases of chronic damage secondary to fibrosis., (Copyright © 2020. Published by Elsevier Inc.)

Introduction and Objectives: Aim of this study is to determine the setting, causes, and the harm of medication errors (ME) which are notified by Primary Health Care., Material and Methods: Setting: Primary Care Regional Health Service of Madrid. 2016., Design: Descriptive and cross-sectional study., Participants: All ME (1,839) which were notified by Primary Care Centres by notification system of safety incidents between January 1st 2016 and November 17th 2016., Main Measurements: Setting, real harm, potential harm, and cause of error. These items were classified by one researcher. Concordance was checked with another researcher., Results: Just under half (47%) (95% CI: 44.8%-49.3%) of ME occurred in Primary Care Centre, 26.5% (95% CI: 24.5%-28.6%) of ME were patient medication errors, and 27.5% (95% CI: 24.1%-30.8%) of ME were potential severe harm errors. Prescribing errors were the cause of most ME in Primary Care Centre [27.4% (95% CI: 24.4%-30.4%)]. Communication between patients and doctors were the cause of most patient medication errors [66% (95% CI: 61.8%-70.2%)]. Patient mistakes and forgetfulness were also causes of patient medication errors., Conclusions: Half of all mediation errors hppened at Primary Care Center while one quarter of them were patient medication errors. One quarter of all ME were potential severe harm errors. The main causes were prescribing errors, failure of communication between patients and doctors, and patient mistakes and forgetfulness. Objectives: To assess the adherence to the antibiotic prophylaxis protocol in patients undergoing prostate surgery and evaluate the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis on surgical site infections (SSI)., Material and Methods: A prospective cohort study was carried out between January 2009 and September 2016. The global compliance with the antibiotic prophylaxis protocol was evaluated studying the items: time of onset, route of administration, antibiotic prescribed, duration and dose. Percentages of adequacy are described. The incidence of infection was calculated after 30 days of follow-up. Relationship between the adequacy to the protocol and the surgical site infection are described with the relative risk. RESULTS: A total of 595 patients were studied. The global adequacy was 93.8%. The leading cause of inadequacy was the time of onset 3%. The incidence of surgical site infection was 1%. No relationship between the inadequacy of antibiotic prophylaxis and surgical site infection (RR=1.1%; 95%CI: 1.0-1.2) was found. No relationship between the procedure (laparoscopic or open surgery) and surgical site infection (RR=0.4%; 95%CI: 0.1-1.9) was found., Conclusions: The adequacy of antibiotic prophylaxis was high. The incidence of surgical site infection was low and compliance of antibiotic prophylaxis contributes to diminish surgical site infection incidence.
