Introduction: Extubation failure after neonatal cardiac surgery is associated with increased intensive care unit length of stay, morbidity, and mortality. We performed a quality improvement project to create and implement a peri-extubation bundle, including extubation readiness testing, spontaneous breathing trial, and high-risk criteria identification, using best practices at high-performing centers to decrease neonatal and infant extubation failure by 20% from a baseline of 15.7% to 12.6% over a 2-year period., Methods: Utilising the transparency of the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium database, five centres were identified as high performers, having better-than-expected neonatal extubation success rates with the balancing metric of as-expected or better-than-expected mechanical ventilation duration. Structured interviews were conducted with cardiac intensive care unit physician leadership at the identified centers to determine centre-specific extubation practices. Data from those interviews underwent qualitative content analysis which was used to develop a peri-extubation bundle. The bundle was implemented at a single-centre 17-bed cardiac intensive care unit. Extubation failure, defined as reintubation within 48 hours of extubation for anything other than a procedure, ventilator days and bundle compliance was tracked., Results: There was a 41.4% decrease in extubation failure following bundle implementation (12 failures of 76 extubations pre-implantation; 6 failures of 65 extubations post-implementation). Bundle compliance was 95.4%. There was no difference in ventilator days ( p = 0.079) between groups., Conclusion: Implementation of a peri-extubation bundle created from best practices at high-performing centres reduced extubation failure by 41.4% in neonates and infants undergoing congenital heart surgery.

In acute respiratory distress syndrome, the role of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) to prevent ventilator-induced lung injury is controversial. Randomized trials comparing higher versus lower PEEP strategies failed to demonstrate a clinical benefit. This may depend on the inter-individually variable potential for lung recruitment (i.e. recruitability), which would warrant PEEP individualization to balance alveolar recruitment and the unavoidable baby lung overinflation produced by high pressure. Many techniques have been used to assess recruitability, including lung imaging, multiple pressure-volume curves and lung volume measurement. The Recruitment-to-Inflation ratio (R/I) has been recently proposed to bedside assess recruitability without additional equipment. R/I assessment is a simplified technique based on the multiple pressure-volume curve concept: it is measured by monitoring respiratory mechanics and exhaled tidal volume during a 10-cmH2O one-breath derecruitment maneuver after a short high-PEEP test. R/I scales recruited volume to respiratory system compliance, and normalizes recruitment to a proxy of actual lung size. With modest R/I (<0.3-0.4), setting low PEEP (5-8 cmH2O) may be advisable; with R/I>0.6-0.7, high PEEP (≥15 cmH2O) can be considered, provided that airway and/or transpulmonary plateau pressure do not exceed safety limits. In case of intermediate R/I (≈0.5), a more granular assessment of recruitability may be needed. This could be accomplished with advanced monitoring tools, like sequential lung volume measurement with granular R/I assessment or electrical impedance tomography monitoring during a decremental PEEP trial. In this review, we discuss R/I rationale, applications and limits, providing insights on its clinical use for PEEP selection in moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Objectives: To describe associations between the timing of tracheostomy and patient characteristics or outcomes in the cardiac ICU (CICU)., Design: Single-institution retrospective cohort study., Setting: Freestanding academic children's hospital., Patients: CICU patients with tracheostomy placed between July 1, 2011, and July 1, 2020., Interventions: We compared patient characteristics and outcomes between early and late tracheostomy based on the duration of positive pressure ventilation (PPV) before tracheostomy placement, fitting a receiver operating characteristic curve for current survival to define a cutoff., Measurements and Main Results: Sixty-one patients underwent tracheostomy placement (0.5% of CICU admissions). Median age was 7.8 months. Eighteen patients (30%) had single ventricle physiology and 13 patients (21%) had pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS). Primary indications for tracheostomy were pulmonary/lower airway (41%), upper airway obstruction (UAO) (31%), cardiac (15%), neuromuscular (4%), or neurologic (4%). In-hospital mortality was 26% with 41% survival at the current follow-up (median 7.8 [interquartile range, IQR 2.6-30.0] mo). Late tracheostomy was defined as greater than or equal to 7 weeks of PPV which was equivalent to the median PPV duration pre-tracheostomy. Patients with late tracheostomy were more likely to be younger, have single ventricle physiology, and have greater respiratory severity. Patients with early tracheostomy were more likely to have UAO or genetic comorbidities. In multivariable analysis, late tracheostomy was associated with 4.2 times greater mortality (95% CI, 1.9-9.0). PVS was associated with higher mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 5.2; 95% CI, 2.5-10.9). UAO was associated with lower mortality (adjusted HR 0.2; 95% CI, 0.1-0.5). Late tracheostomy was also associated with greater cumulative opioid exposure., Conclusions: CICU patients who underwent tracheostomy had high in-hospital and longer-term mortality rates. Tracheostomy timing decisions are influenced by indication, disease, genetic comorbidities, illness severity, and age. Earlier tracheostomy was associated with lower sedative use and improved adjusted survival. Background: Gastrointestinal disorders are frequent in COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 has been hypothesized to impact on host microbial flora and gut inflammation, infecting intestinal epithelial cells. Since there are currently no coded therapies or guidelines for treatment of COVID-19, this study aimed to evaluate the possible role of a specific oral bacteriotherapy as complementary therapeutic strategy to avoid the progression of COVID-19. Methods: We provide a report of 70 patients positive for COVID-19, hospitalized between March 9th and April 4th, 2020. All the patients had fever, required non-invasive oxygen therapy and presented a CT lung involvement on imaging more than 50%. Forty-two patients received hydroxychloroquine, antibiotics, and tocilizumab, alone or in combination. A second group of 28 subjects received the same therapy added with oral bacteriotherapy, using a multistrain formulation. Results: The two cohorts of patients were comparable for age, sex, laboratory values, concomitant pathologies, and the modality of oxygen support. Within 72 h, nearly all patients treated with bacteriotherapy showed remission of diarrhea and other symptoms as compared to less than half of the not supplemented group. The estimated risk of developing respiratory failure was eight-fold lower in patients receiving oral bacteriotherapy. Both the prevalence of patients transferred to ICU and mortality were higher among the patients not treated with oral bacteriotherapy. Conclusions: A specific bacterial formulation showed a significant ameliorating impact on the clinical conditions of patients positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection. To present the case of a patient with persistent bronchospasm, refractory to treatment with β2-agonists, that resolved promptly with continuous inhalation of large dose (1000 mcg/hr) ipratropium bromide, and to discuss the possibility of tolerance to β2-agonists as the cause for his failure to respond to adrenergic medications. The patient had received multiple doses of albuterol, as well as subcutaneous terbutaline (0.3 mg), intravenous magnesium sulfate (1 g) and intravenous dexamethasone (10 mg) prior to his admission to the intensive care unit. He remained symptomatic despite systemic intravenous steroids, continuous intravenous terbutaline (up to 0.6 mcg/kg/min), and continuous nebulized albuterol (up to 20 mg/hr for 57 hr) followed by 49 hours of continuous levalbuterol (7 mg/hr). Due to the lack of response, all β2-agonists were discontinued at 106 hours post-admission, and he was started on large dose ipratropium bromide (1000 mcg/hr) by continuous nebulization. Clinical improvement was evident within 1 hour and complete resolution of his symptoms within 4 hours. Continuous inhalation of large dose ipratropium bromide may be an effective regimen for the treatment of patients hospitalized with acute asthma who are deemed to be nonresponsive and/or tolerant to β2-agonist therapy.

Unlabelled: BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE OF THE STUDY: Effect of Long-term nucleoside/nucleotide (NUC) on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) incidence in a population of HBeAg-negative genotype D patients has not been adequately studied in real-life cohorts. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of liver fibrosis and other variables on HCC incidence in this population of patients. Of 745 patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), 306 HBeAg-negative genotype D were selected and included in this study. All patients received treatment with NUC for at least 18 months. Patients with CHB or compensated cirrhosis were included. Patients with HCC diagnosed before or during the first 18 months of NUC therapy were excluded., Results: HCC was diagnosed in 2 CHB patients (1.0%) and 23 cirrhosis patients (20%) (OR = 24.41, 95% CI 5.40 < OR < 153.2; p < 0.0001). Multivariate analysis revealed that HCC risk was independently associated with age ≥ 60 years (OR = 6.45, 95% CI 1.22 to 34.0; p = 0.02) and liver cirrhosis (OR = 12.1, 95% CI 1.39 to 106.2; p = 0.02), but not with virological response (VR), and previous resistance to NUC, or rescue therapy. Multivariate analysis in cirrhosis patients revealed that only age ≥ 60 years was an independent risk factor associated with HCC (p = 0.003)., Conclusions: Liver cirrhosis and age ≥ 60 years are the stronger risk factors for HCC in genotype D HBeA-gnegative patients. Previous resistance to NUC in patients that achieved a VR after rescue therapy was not a predictive factor regarding HCC. VR does not appear to significantly reduce the overall incidence of HCC when a patient has already progressed to liver cirrhosis.

We questioned if acute administration of n-3 fatty acids (FA) carried in n-3 rich triglyceride (TG) emulsions provides neuroprotection in neonatal mice subjected to hypoxic-ischemic (H/I) brain injury. We examined specificity of FA, optimal doses, and therapeutic windows for neuroprotection after H/I. H/I insult was induced in C57BL/6J 10-day-old mice by right carotid artery ligation followed by exposure to 8% O(2) for 15 minutes at 37°C. Intraperitoneal injection with n-3-rich TG emulsions, n-6 rich TG emulsions or saline for control was administered at different time points before and/or after H/I. In separate experiments, dose responses were determined with TG containing only docosahexaenoic acid (Tri-DHA) or eicosapentaenoic acid (Tri-EPA) with a range of 0.1-0.375 g n-3 TG/kg, administered immediately after H/I insult. Infarct volume and cerebral blood flow (CBF) were measured. Treatment with n-3 TG emulsions both before- and after- H/I significantly reduced total infarct volume by a mean of 43% when administered 90 min prior to H/I and by 47% when administered immediately after H/I. In post-H/I experiments Tri-DHA, but not Tri-EPA exhibited neuroprotective effects with both low and high doses (p<0.05). Moreover, delayed post-H/I treatment with Tri-DHA significantly decreased total infarct volume by a mean of 51% when administered at 0 hr, by 46% at 1 hr, and by 51% at 2 hr after H/I insult. No protective effect occurred with Tri-DHA injection at 4 hr after H/I. There were no n-3 TG related differences in CBF. A significant reduction in brain tissue death was maintained after Tri-DHA injection at 8 wk after the initial brain injury. Thus, n-3 TG, specifically containing DHA, is protective against H/I induced brain infarction when administered up to 2 hr after H/I injury. Acute administration of TG-rich DHA may prove effective for treatment of stroke in humans.

Background: The impact of viral subtype on the rate of sustained virological response (SVR) to antiviral therapy in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C genotype 1 subtype 1a and 1b has not been extensively investigated. The aim of this study is to determine whether the HCV genotype 1 subtypes 1a and 1b respond differently to treatment with PEGylated interferon (PEG-IFN) plus ribavirin., Methods: For 48 weeks, 388 "naïve"genotype 1 patients were treated weekly with PEG-IFN α-2a or PEG-INF α-2b combined with daily ribavirin (1000-1200 mg/day). The numbers of patients in whom HCV-RNA was undetectable were compared after 4 (rapid virological response, RVR), 12 (early virological response, EVR), and 48 (end treatment virological response, ETR) weeks of treatment as well as 24 weeks after the last treatment (sustained virological response, SVR)., Results: The rate of SVR was higher in subtype 1a patients than subtype 1b patients (55% vs. 43%; p < 0.02). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that infection with genotype 1a (odds ratio(OR) : 1.8; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.4 to 4.1), age < 50 years (OR:7.0; 95% CI 1.1 to 21.2), alanine aminotransferase level (ALT)<100 IU/ml (OR:2.1; 95% CI: 1.3 to3.5), HCV-RNA < 5.6 log10 IU/ml (OR: 3.2; 95% CI: 2.7 to 6.9) and fibrosis score < S3 (OR: 3.8; 95% CI:3.2 to 7.4), were all independent predictors of SVR., Conclusion: Dual antiviral therapy is more effective against HCV subtype 1a than against subtype 1b and this difference is independent of other factors that may favour viral clearance., Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01342003.

Objective: To assess emergency department (ED) utilization and physician preparedness for infants with single ventricle (SV) physiology between stage 1 and stage 2 surgical palliation., Study Design: Records of infants with SV physiology discharged after stage I palliation between July 2006 and June 2009 were retrospectively reviewed. Next, a cross-sectional survey of registered ED physicians in Michigan was performed., Results: Thirty-three of 42 patients (79%) required 65 ED visits, most commonly presenting with respiratory distress (35%). Six patients died in the ED; 35 other visits resulted in hospital admission, 4 requiring urgent surgery or catheterization. Median initial hospital stay in those with ED visits was significantly longer (21 days; IQR, 17-45 days) than those without (12 days; IQR, 5.5-24 days) (P = .032). Three hundred seventy-six of 915 surveyed ED physicians responded. Most (72%) were unsure of the acceptable range of arterial oxygen saturation for these infants, and 58% felt "uncomfortable" or "worried" about their treatment. Despite these concerns, 59% deemed education in SV physiology as low priority., Conclusions: Between stages I and II, infants with SV physiology utilized the ED frequently, often with high disease acuity. Most ED physicians surveyed appeared underprepared for these infants. These findings underscore the need for educational efforts aimed at increasing ED preparedness., (Copyright © 2011 Mosby, Inc. Objective: To describe the clinical course and treatment of an infant with iron poisoning., Design: Case report., Setting: Pediatric intensive care unit in a tertiary care children's hospital., Patient, Intervention, and Results: A 7-week-old, ex-28-week premature infant, was accidentally poisoned with ferrous sulfate. She recovered completely from metabolic acidosis and shock after treatment with inotropes and chelation with deferoxamine, but her management was complicated by challenges of physiologic immaturity of developing organs. This is the youngest infant reported, to date, with iron poisoning resulting in metabolic acidosis and shock., Conclusions: This case illustrates the importance of including toxic exposure in the differential diagnosis of neonatal shock of unknown etiology. Because of physiologic immaturity, iron poisoning in young infants poses special diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

The known galaxies most dominated by dark matter (Draco, Ursa Minor and Andromeda IX) are satellites of the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxies. They are members of a class of faint galaxies, devoid of gas, known as dwarf spheroidals, and have by far the highest ratio of dark to luminous matter. None of the models proposed to unravel their origin can simultaneously explain their exceptional dark matter content and their proximity to a much larger galaxy. Here we report simulations showing that the progenitors of these galaxies were probably gas-dominated dwarf galaxies that became satellites of a larger galaxy earlier than the other dwarf spheroidals. We find that a combination of tidal shocks and ram pressure swept away the entire gas content of such progenitors about ten billion years ago because heating by the cosmic ultraviolet background kept the gas loosely bound: a tiny stellar component embedded in a relatively massive dark halo survived until today. All luminous galaxies should be surrounded by a few extremely dark-matter-dominated dwarf spheroidal satellites, and these should have the shortest orbital periods among dwarf spheroidals because they were accreted early.

In 1989, the National Commission on Nurse Anesthesia Education was implemented to reverse a severe shortage of CRNAs. The Commission, charged with scrutinizing all aspects of nurse anesthesia educational programs, developed 8 goals with corresponding strategies that were used by the Commission Implementation Task Force to actualize its charge. These goals and strategies contributed to an increase of annual graduates from nurse anesthesia programs and the development of 10 new programs. These activities were documented in Part 1 of this article, which appeared in the October 2001 AANA Journal. Following completion of the 3-year project, the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) and the AANA Education Committee began carrying out the final recommendations made by the Commission. Part 2 addresses the accomplishments of the Education Committee and COA in implementing the recommendations of the Commission, discusses current status of educational programs and CRNA manpower, and identifies roles for both educators and practitioners in protecting the future of the profession.

Background: Our objective was to (1) determine whether more complications are reported by patients 30 days after outpatient colonoscopy than are discussed at our monthly morbidity and mortality conferences, (2) identify complications resulting in visits to the emergency department or physician's office or leading to hospitalization, and (3) assess which factors put patients at highest risk. A secondary goal was to determine the rate of work lost after outpatient colonoscopy., Methods: Trained interviewers performed standardized telephone interviews of consecutive outpatients undergoing colonoscopy at Georgetown University Hospital over a 1-year period., Results: One thousand one hundred ninety-six patients were contacted 30 days after outpatient colonoscopy and participated in our study. Twenty patients had complications that required a visit to an emergency department or physician. Ninety percent of these cases (18) were detected at 30 days, but 15% (3) were discussed at morbidity and mortality conferences. All seven complications that necessitated hospitalization were identified at 30 days, but only two were discussed at our morbidity and mortality conference. The most common complications reported by patients were abdominal discomfort (5.4%) and rectal bleeding (2.1%)., Conclusion: More complications are detected by means of contacting patients 30 days after outpatient colonoscopy than are discussed at our morbidity and mortality conferences.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare complication rates reported by patients 30 days after outpatient upper endoscopy with those discussed at our monthly morbidity and mortality conference. We also intended to establish which complications were reported most frequently 30 days after upper endoscopy, and which patients or procedures involved the highest risk., Methods: Trained interviewers performed standardized telephone interviews on consecutive outpatients undergoing upper endoscopy over a 1-yr period. Patients were queried regarding potential events related to their upper endoscopy in the 30 days subsequent, including symptoms, emergency room (ER) and/or physician visits, and hospitalizations. The indications, findings, and therapies were reviewed from endoscopic reports., Results: A total of 473 patients were contacted 30 days after outpatient upper endoscopy and agreed to participate in our study. The most common complications reported by patients at 30 days were sore throat (9.5%) and abdominal discomfort (5.3%). Twelve patients (2.5%) required an ER/physician visit and five patients (1.1%) required hospitalization. The minority of both ER/physician visits (16.7%) and hospitalizations (40%) were discussed at our monthly morbidity and mortality conferences., Conclusions: More complications were reported by patients 30 days after outpatient upper endoscopy than were discussed at our monthly morbidity and mortality conferences. The most frequent complications reported by patients were sore throat and abdominal pain. The minority of ER/physician visits and hospitalizations were discussed at our morbidity and mortality conferences.

Current models of basal ganglia function predict that dopamine agonist-induced motor activation is mediated by decreases in basal ganglia output. This study examines the relationship between dopamine agonist effects on firing rate in basal ganglia output nuclei and rotational behavior in rats with nigrostriatal lesions. Extracellular single-unit activity ipsilateral to the lesion was recorded in awake, locally-anesthetized rats. Separate rats were used for behavioral experiments. Low i.v. doses of D1 agonists (SKF 38393, SKF 81297, SKF 82958) were effective in producing rotation, yet did not change average firing rate in the substantia nigra pars reticulata or entopeduncular nucleus. At these doses, firing rate effects differed from neuron to neuron, and included increases, decreases, and no change. Higher i.v. doses of D1 agonists were effective in causing both rotation and a net decrease in rate of substantia nigra pars reticulata neurons. A low s.c. dose of the D1/D2 agonist apomorphine (0.05 mg/kg) produced both rotation and a robust average decrease in firing rate in the substantia nigra pars reticulata, yet the onset of the net firing rate decrease (at 13-16 min) was greatly delayed compared to the onset of rotation (at 3 min). Immunostaining for the immediate-early gene Fos indicated that a low i.v. dose of SKF 38393 (that produced rotation but not a net decrease in firing rate in basal ganglia output nuclei) induced Fos-like immunoreactivity in the striatum and subthalamic nucleus, suggesting an activation of both inhibitory and excitatory afferents to the substantia nigra and entopeduncular nucleus. In addition, D1 agonist-induced Fos expression in the striatum and subthalamic nucleus was equivalent in freely-moving and awake, locally-anesthetized rats. The results show that decreases in firing rate in basal ganglia output nuclei are not necessary for dopamine agonist-induced motor activation. Motor-activating actions of dopamine agonists may be mediated by firing rate decreases in a small subpopulation of output nucleus neurons, or may be mediated by other features of firing activity besides rate in these nuclei such as oscillatory firing pattern or interneuronal firing synchrony. Also, the results suggest that dopamine receptors in both the striatum and at extrastriatal sites (especially the subthalamic nucleus) are likely to be involved in dopamine agonist influences on firing rates in the substantia nigra pars reticulata and entopeduncular nucleus.

We describe a case of a 25-year-old female with an acute left otomastoiditis, accompanied by a left temporal extradural abscess with moderate perifocal edema and meningitis. Intravenous meropenem (2 g 8-hourly) and intravenous methylprednisolone (40 mg once daily) were commenced empirically. Teicoplanin (400 mg once daily intravenously) was added after 5 days when culture results were available. Teicoplanin was discontinued on day 25 but meropenem and methylprednisolone were continued for a further 15 days, after which the abscess completely resolved without sequelae. No treatment-induced adverse effects or seizures were observed. Thus, in selected patients, antibacterials (in conjunction with a corticosteroid) may be successfully used without surgery to treat brain abscesses and in such circumstances meropenem is a useful option for empiric therapy.

Overactivity in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) is believed to contribute to the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease. It is hypothesized that dopamine receptor agonists reduce neuronal output from the STN. The present study tests this hypothesis by using in vivo extracellular single unit recording techniques to measure neuronal activity in the STN of rats with 6-hydroxydopamine-induced lesions of the nigrostriatal pathway (a model of Parkinson's disease). As predicted, firing rates of STN neurons in lesioned rats were tonically elevated under basal conditions and were decreased by the nonselective dopamine receptor agonists apomorphine and L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA). STN firing rates were also decreased by the D2 receptor agonist quinpirole when administered after the D1 receptor agonist (+/-)- 1-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-(1H)-3-benzazepine-7,8-diol (SKF 38393). Results of the present study challenge the prediction that dopaminergic agonists reduce STN activity predominantly through actions at striatal dopamine D2 receptors. Firing rates of STN neurons were not altered by selective stimulation of D2 receptors and were increased by selective stimulation of D1 receptors. Moreover, there was a striking difference between the responses of the STN to D1/D2 receptor stimulation in the lesioned and intact rat; apomorphine inhibited STN firing in the lesioned rat and increased STN firing in the intact rat. These findings support the premise that therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of Parkinson's disease is associated with a decrease in the activity of the STN, but challenge assumptions about the roles of D1 and D2 receptors in the regulation of neuronal activity of the STN in both the intact and dopamine-depleted states.

The authors report their experience on the use of oral suspension of Clarithromycin in respiratory infections in the pediatric age. Thirty-three patients affected by various infectious pathologies of the respiratory tract, treated with oral Clarithromycin at the dosage of 15 mg/kg/day, were studied. The therapeutic outcome was very encouraging, the drug well tolerated and without side effects.

Faculty workload determination formulas are a means by which program directors can justify their time and that of other faculty. This article is written to assist faculty in this necessary yet time-consuming endeavor. A table of calculations (time/activity ratio) for determination of committed hours, examples of actual workload determination, and a worksheet are provided.

In some of the sera from patients with amoebiasis circulating immune complexes are present which are thought to interact with lymphoid cells, enabling them to elicit a burst of oxygen consumption in PMNs. The intensity of chemiluminescence is related to the presence of C3+ and Fc IgG+ cells in the lymphoid cell suspensions employed. The generation and release of highly reactive oxygen derivatives from PMNs impair T lymphocyte proliferative responses to the E. histolytica mitogen. The Authors suggest that one of the mechanisms by which circulating immune complexes present in the sera of patients with amoebiasis may interfere with T cell-mediated immune responses, is through their binding to the surface of the C3+, Fc IgG+ cells with subsequent stimulation of the PMN oxidative metabolism.

Methisoprinol is an antiviral drug with immunopotentiating properties. The aim of this study was to assess the immunopharmacokinetic profile of the drug alone or administered in conjunction with corticosteroids. The plasma of patients who had been given a single dose of methisoprinol, prednisolone or both was collected before the infusion and at different time intervals thereafter. The plasma samples were tested for immunosuppressive or immunopotentiating activity in a mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC). The test was modified to increase sensitivity and decrease variability. The administration of methisoprinol resulted in increased responses up to three hours after the infusion. The simultaneous administration of both drugs resulted in an even more marked inhibition of MLCs as compared with corticosteroids alone.
