As a new generation of display technology, micro-light-emitting diodes (micro-LEDs) have been widely recognized owing to their excellent performance in brightness, contrast ratio, resolution, etc . This work proposes a continuous wave (CW) laser writing strategy to achieve perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) array with small pixel size and pitch, overcoming the processing difficulties and limitations of mass transfer. Since PQDs have highly dynamic surface ligand states and low ionic bond energy, suitable laser power can quench PQDs and form an array area. The use of low-power CW lasers in the laser direct writing process, on the one hand, greatly maintains the luminescence performance and edge flatness of each PQD array, and the pixel pitch (1.5 μm-9 μm)/size can be adjusted arbitrarily, which meets the high-resolution micro-display requirements. On the other hand, we found that after the low-power laser quenches the PQDs, its residual oxide can absorb photons, thus reducing the backlight leakage in color conversion micro-LEDs. Finally, red/green/blue three-color conversion micro-LED and laser projection displays were realized; these results provide a feasible strategy for next-generation micro-LED displays.

Pollution of surface water by heavy metal hexavalent chromium ions poses a serious threat to human health; herein, a two-dimensional (2D) cationic breathing Ni-MOF with free nitrate ions between the layers was designed and synthesized according to the characteristics of hexavalent chromium ions, {[Ni(L) 2 ](NO 3 ) 2 ·5H 2 O} n (L = 1,3,5-tris[4-(imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]benzene). The flexible layer spacing of the 2D breathing Ni-MOF allows the exchange of NO 3 - by CrO 4 2- without destroying the original structure. Electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions between CrO 4 2- and Ni-MOF facilitate its exchange with NO 3 - . Moreover, CrO 4 2- exhibits a higher binding energy with Ni-MOF compared to NO 3 - , and the hydrophobic channels of Ni-MOF favor CrO 4 2- trapping due to its lower hydration energy. Consequently, Ni-MOF demonstrates both effective sorption and electrochemical sensing of Cr(VI), achieving a sensitivity of 2.091 μA μM -1 and a detection limit of 0.07 μM.

Cooperative wrapping of nanoparticles (NPs) with small sizes is an important pathway for the uptake of NPs by cell membranes. However, the cooperative wrapping efficiency and the effects of NPs' rigidity remain ambiguous. With the aid of computer simulations, we show that the complete wrapping mechanism of cooperative endocytosis is that the aggregation of NPs leads to greater wrapping forces than the single NP case, which triggers the increase of the wrapping degree and in turn further increases the wrapping forces until they are finally fully taken up. The effects of the NP size, initial distance, interaction strength, arrangement and stiffness on cooperative endocytosis were systematically studied. The cooperative wrapping efficiency increases as the NP radius increases. Hexagonal close packed NPs have the highest internalization efficiency. When the interactions are strong, softer NPs exhibit higher endocytosis efficiency. We further propose two strategies by combining NPs with different wrapping properties for targeting applications. By combining two NPs decorated with different types of ligands, the combination NPs can only be fully endocytosed by the cell membrane with two cognate types of receptors and adhere to the normal cell membrane with only one type of receptor. We also design composite NPs using a large NP non-covalently decorated with several small NPs. By harnessing the competition between the ligand-receptor interactions and the excluded volume interactions between the small NPs and the lipid membrane, the composite NPs have targeting ability towards the cancer cell membrane. The design concept of combining NPs with different wrapping properties for drug targeting applications may be very promising in biomedicine.

Combined photodynamic and photothermal therapy (PDT and PTT) can achieve more superior therapeutic effects than the sole mode by maximizing the photon utilization, but there remains a significant challenge in the development of related single-molecule photosensitizers (PSs), particularly those with type I photosensitization. In this study, self-assembly of squaraine dyes (SQs) is shown to be a promising strategy for designing PSs for combined type I PDT and PTT, and a supramolecular PS (TPE-SQ7) has been successfully developed through subtle molecular design of an indolenine SQ, which can self-assemble into highly ordered H-aggregates in aqueous solution as well as nanoparticles (NPs). In contrast to the typical quenching effect of H-aggregates on reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, our results encouragingly manifest that H-aggregates can enhance type I ROS ( • OH) generation by facilitating the intersystem crossing process while maintaining a high PTT performance. Consequently, TPE-SQ7 NPs with ordered H-aggregates not only exhibit superior combined therapeutic efficacy than the well-known PS (Ce6) under both normoxic and hypoxic conditions but also have excellent biosafety, making them have important application prospects in tumor phototherapy and antibacterial fields. This study not only proves that the supramolecular self-assembly of SQs is an effective strategy toward high-performance PSs for combined type I PDT and PTT but also provides a different understanding of the effect of H-aggregates on the PDT performance.

Lead halide perovskite anion exchange reactions tend to be spontaneous and rapid. To achieve precise control of anion exchange and modulate the bandgaps of perovskites to meet the demands in full-color displays, a laser-induced liquid-phase anion exchange method is developed in this paper. CsPbBr 3 perovskites embedded in a polymer matrix are converted to CsPb(Br x Cl 1- x ) 3 and CsPb(Br x I 1- x ) 3 perovskites, realizing the shift from green fluorescence to blue and red fluorescence. By changing the laser parameters, the anion exchange extent and luminescence wavelength are precisely tuned, with the maximum tuning wavelength range of 431-696 nm. Due to the focusing properties of the laser, the spatial position of anion exchange can be precisely controlled, which is significant for realizing fast and accurate patterning without masks. Based on this method, blue patterns with different light-emitting wavelengths are fabricated. RGB three-color patterns on a single perovskite composite film are successfully prepared by further replacement of halogen ions. More importantly, the polymer matrix provides ultraflexibility and good stability for the films; even if the composite films are arbitrarily folded or repeatedly bent, they can still maintain good luminous intensity. This method will show great potential in the field of flexible, full-color displays.

Background and Objectives: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become a worldwide public health problem. Current evidence on the association between dietary iron intake and the risk of NAFLD is limited. The present study aimed to investigate the associations of animal-derived dietary iron (ADDI) intake, plant-derived dietary iron (PDDI) intake, and the ratio of PDDI:ADDI with NAFLD risk among U.S. adult population., Methods and Study Design: This was a repeated cross-sectional study. Data were collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2018. NAFLD was defined as a United States Fatty Lives Index ≥30, and dietary iron intake was assessed through two 24-h dietary recall in-terviews. Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline models were applied to examine the associations between dietary iron intake from different sources and NAFLD risk., Results: A total of 9478 participants aged ≥20 years were enrolled in the present study. After adjustment for multiple confounding factors, relative to the lowest quartile, the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of NAFLD for the highest quartile was 1.01(95% CI, 0.82-1.24) for ADDI intake, 0.82 (95% CI, 0.64-0.99) for PDDI intake, and 1.00 (95% CI, 0.81-1.24) for the PDDI: ADDI intake ratio. In stratified analysis by sex and age, the significantly negative associations of PDDI intake with NAFLD was observed in women and participants older than 45 years. Myocardial infarction (MI) and the ensuing heart failure (HF) remain the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. One of the strategies to combat MI and HF lies in the ability to accurately predict the onset of these disorders. Alterations in mitochondrial homeostasis have been reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of various cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). In this regard, perturbations to mitochondrial dynamics leading to impaired clearance of dysfunctional mitochondria have been previously established to be a crucial trigger for MI/HF. In this study, we found that MI patients could be classified into three clusters based on the expression levels of mitophagy-related genes and consensus clustering. We identified a mitophagy-related diagnostic 5-genes signature for MI using support vector machines-Recursive Feature Elimination (SVM-RFE) and random forest, with the area under the ROC curve (AUC) value of the predictive model at 0.813. Additionally, the single-cell transcriptome and pseudo-time analyses showed that the mitoscore was significantly upregulated in macrophages, endothelial cells, pericytes, fibroblasts and monocytes in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, while sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1) exhibited remarkable increase in the infarcted (ICM) and non-infarcted (ICMN) myocardium samples dissected from the left ventricle compared with control samples. Lastly, through analysis of peripheral blood from MI patients, we found that the expression of SQSTM1 is positively correlated with troponin-T (P < 0.0001, R = 0.4195, R2 = 0.1759). Cervical cancer poses a significant health burden for women globally, and the rapid proliferation of cervical cancer cells greatly worsens patient prognosis. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a crucial role in regulating tumor cell proliferation. However, the involvement of lncRNAs in cervical cancer cell proliferation remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the lncRNA SIX1-1, which was found to be upregulated in cervical cancer tissues and cell lines. Functional assays revealed that knockdown of SIX1-1 inhibited cell proliferation in vitro and reduced tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, SIX1-1 was predominantly localized in the nucleus and could bind with DNMT1 protein. The expression of SIX1-1 enhanced the interaction of DNMT1 with RASD1 promoter, leading to the methylation of the promoter and decreased mRNA transcription. Then RASD1 downregulation activated the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway, promoting cell proliferation. Rescue experiments showed that knockdown of RASD1 restored the inhibited cell proliferation caused by decreased expression of SIX1-1, indicating that RASD1 acted as the functional mediator of SIX1-1. In conclusion, SIX1-1 promoted cervical cancer cell proliferation by modulating RASD1 expression. Background: The infant gut microbiome's establishment is pivotal for health and immune development. Understanding it unveils insights into growth, development, and maternal microbial interactions. Research often emphasizes gut bacteria, neglecting the phageome., Methods: To investigate the influence of geographic or maternal factors (mode of delivery, mode of breastfeeding, gestational diabetes mellitus) on the gut microbiota and phages of newborns, we collected fecal samples from 34 pairs of mothers and their infants within 24 hours of delivery from three regions (9 pairs from Enshi, 7 pairs from Hohhot, and 18 pairs from Hulunbuir) using sterile containers. Gut microbiota analysis by Shotgun sequencing was subsequently performed., Results: Our results showed that geographic location affects maternal gut microbiology ( P < 0.05), while the effect on infant gut microbiology was not significant ( P = 0.184). Among the maternal factors, mode of delivery had a significant ( P < 0.05) effect on the newborn. Specific bacteria (e.g., Bacteroides , Escherichia spp., Phocaeicola vulgatus , Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus hominis , Veillonella spp.), predicted active metabolites, and bacteriophage vOTUs varied with delivery mode. Phocaeicola vulgatus significantly correlated with some metabolites and bacteriophages in the early infant gut ( P < 0.05). In the GD group, a strong negative correlation of phage diversity between mother and infants was observed ( R = -0.58, P =0.04)., Conclusion: In conclusion, neonatal early gut microbiome (including bacteria and bacteriophages) colonization is profoundly affected by the mode of delivery, and maternal gestational diabetes mellitus. The key bacteria may interact with bacteriophages to influence the levels of specific metabolites. This study aims to evaluate the biomechanical performance of the Gamma 3 nail with an anti-rotation screw (GNS) and compare it to two established gold-standard methods for treating unstable femoral neck fractures (UFNFs). Synthetic bone models were prepared with Pauwels' type III osteotomy and an additional posterior wedge. Three different implant configurations were tested: three cannulated crews (3CS) in an inverted triangle configuration, a dynamic hip screw with an anti-rotation screw (DHSS), and GNS. Non-destructive cyclic axial loading was applied at 7° adduction, with 1000 cycles ranging from 100 to 1000 N. Subsequently, a construct failure test was conducted using progressive axial compression, and fracture reduction loss was recorded. The average axial stiffness was 321 ± 52 N/mm for 3CS, 430 ± 71 N/mm for DHSS, and 519 ± 104 N/mm for GNS. The average ultimate failure loads were 2699.3 N for 3CS, 3427.1 N for DHSS, and 3758.9 N for GNS. GNS demonstrated significantly greater axial stiffness compared to the other two groups (P < 0.05). Both DHSS and GNS exhibited similar failure loading, which were greater than those of 3CS (P < 0.05). GNS offers the advantages of a minimally invasive and intramedullary implant with comparable stability to the DHSS system. Due to their exceptional adaptability, inherent compliance, and high flexibility, soft actuators have significant advantages over traditional rigid actuators in human-machine interaction and in grasping irregular or fragile objects. Most existing soft actuators are designed using preprogramming methods, which schedule complex motions into flexible structures by correctly designing deformation constraints. These constraints restrict undesired deformation, allowing the actuator to achieve the preprogrammed motion when stimulated. Therefore, these actuators can only achieve a certain type of motion, such as extension, bending, or twisting, since it is impossible to adjust the deformation constraints once they are embedded into the structures. In this study, we propose the use of variable stiffness materials, such as shape memory polymer (SMP), in the structural design of soft actuators to achieve variable stiffness constraints. A reconfigurable soft helical actuator with a variable stiffness skeleton is developed based on this concept. The skeleton, made of SMP, is encased at the bottom of a fiber-reinforced chamber. In its high-stiffness state, the SMP constrains the deformation toward the skeleton when the actuator is pressurized. This constraint is removed once the SMP skeleton is heated, endowing the actuator with the ability to switch between bending and helical motion in real-time. A theoretical model is proposed to predict the behavior of the actuator when driven by pressure, and experiments are conducted to verify the model's accuracy. In addition, the influence of different design parameters is investigated based on experimental results, providing reference guidelines for the design of the actuator.

Current treatments for chronic diarrhea have limited efficacy and several side effects. Probiotics have the potential to alleviate symptoms of diarrhea. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluates the effects of administering the probiotic Lactiplantibacillus plantarum P9 (P9) strain in young adults with chronic diarrhea (Clinical Trial Registration Number: ChiCTR2000038410). The intervention period lasts for 28 days, followed by a 14-day post-intervention period. Participants are randomized into the P9 (n = 93) and placebo (n = 96) groups, with 170 individuals completing the double-blind intervention phase (n = 85 per group). The primary endpoint is the diarrhea symptom severity score. Both intention-to-treat (n = 189) and per-protocol (n = 170) analyses reveal a modest yet statistically significant reduction in diarrhea severity compared to the placebo group (20.0%, P = 0.050; 21.4%, P = 0.048, respectively). In conclusion, the results of this study support the use of probiotics in managing chronic diarrhea in young adults. Objective: Evaluation of tumor microvascular morphology is of great significance in tumor diagnosis, therapeutic effect prediction, and surgical planning. Recently, two-dimensional ultrasound localization microscopy (2DULM) has demonstrated its superiority in the field of microvascular imaging. However, it suffers from planar dependence and is unintuitive. We propose a novel three-dimensional ultrasound localization microscopy (3DULM) to avoid these limitations., Methods: We investigated 3DULM based on a 2D array for tumor microvascular imaging. After intravenous injection of contrast agents, all elements of the 2D array transmit and receive signals to ensure a high and stable frame rate. Microbubble signal extraction, filtering, positioning, tracking, and other processing were used to obtain a 3D vascular map, flow velocity, and flow direction. To verify the effectiveness of 3DULM, it was validated on double helix tubes and rabbit VX2 tumors. Cisplatin was used to verify the ability of 3DULM to detect microvascular changes during tumor treatment., Results: In vitro, the sizes measured by 3DULM at 3 mm and 13 mm were 178 μ m and 182 μ m , respectively. In the rabbit tumors, we acquired 9000 volumes to reveal vessels about 30 μ m in diameter, which surpasses the diffraction limit of ultrasound in traditional ultrasound imaging, and the results matched with micro-angiography. In addition, there were significant changes in vascular density and curvature between the treatment and control groups., Conclusions: The effectiveness of 3DULM was verified in vitro and in vivo. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a malignant tumor with high degree of malignancy and lack of effective target treatment. The research aims to explore the role and mechanism of X collagen alpha-1 chain protein (COL10A1 gene) in TNBC. UALCAN and Kaplan-Meier were used to detect the expression of COL10A1 and its role in the prognosis of breast cancer patients. The cells with stably expressing high levels of COL10A1 were obtained by recombinant lentivirus infection. The expression of COL10A1 in cells was temporarily downregulated by siRNA interference fragments. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis were utilized to detect the changes of COL10A1 mRNA and protein expression. The biological functions of the cells were evaluated by colony formation, cell counting kit-8, cell invasion and wound healing experiments. In addition, the effect of COL10A1 on angiogenesis was investigated by tube formation assay. Xenograft tumor model was used to confirm the effect of COL10A1 on tumorigenicity in vivo and multiplex fluorescent immunohistochemistry to detect multiple proteins simultaneously. The possible molecular mechanism of the function of COL10A1 was speculated through the detection of proteins in functionally related pathways. COL10A1 is highly expressed and is significantly associated with worse overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in TNBC. Overexpression of COL10A1 increased the clone formation rate and cell migration capacity of TNBC cells. In the COL10A1 overexpression group, the clone formation rates of MD-MB-231 and BT-549 cells (21.5 ± 0.62, 27.83 ± 3.72)% were significantly higher than those in the control group(15.23 ± 2.79, 19.4 ± 1.47)%, and the relative migration ratio (47.40 ± 3.09, 41.26 ± 4.33)% were higher than those in the control group (34.48 ± 2.03, 21.80 ± 1.03)%. When the expression of COL10A1 was downregulated, the ability of clone formation and wound-healing migration capacity in TNBC cells was weakened. Upregulated COL10A1 in TNBC cells generated more junctions and longer total segments between vascular endothelial cells, and promoted angiogenesis of the cells, and thus enhanced the tumorigenesis. In TNBC, it was found that COL10A1 might affect epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of the cells through Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway by the detection of the related pathway proteins. COL10A1 is highly expressed in TNBC, and its high expression leads to poor OS and RFS. Background: Hyperperfusion-induced cerebral hemorrhage (HICH) is a rare but severe complication in patients with carotid stenosis undergoing stent placement for which predictive models are lacking. Our objective was to develop a nomogram to predict such risk., Methods: We included a total of 1226 patients with carotid stenosis who underwent stenting between June 2015 and December 2022 from three medical centers, divided into a development cohort of 883 patients and a validation cohort of 343 patients. The model used LASSO regression for feature optimization and multivariable logistic regression to develop the predictive model. Model accuracy was assessed via the receiver operating characteristic curve, with further evaluation of calibration and clinical utility through calibration curves and decision curve analysis (DCA). The model underwent internal validation using bootstrapping and external validation with the validation cohort., Results: Older age (OR 1.07, p=0.005), higher degrees of carotid stenosis (OR 1.07, p=0.006), poor collateral circulation (OR 6.26, p<0.001), elevated preoperative triglyceride levels (OR 1.27, p=0.041) and neutrophil counts (OR 1.36, p<0.001) were identified as independent risk factors for HICH during hospitalization. The nomogram constructed based on these predictive factors demonstrated an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.817. The AUCs for internal and external validation were 0.809 and 0.783, respectively. Aerosol jet printing has the potential to fabricate fine features on various substrates due to its large stand-off distance. However, the presence of overspray and instability, particularly at high printing resolutions, has limited its widespread application. In this study, we introduce an efficient approach called annular acoustic focusing for aerosol jet printing. By determining the optimal focusing frequency (5.8 MHz) for silver nanoparticles using a particle ejection model, we achieve precise and stable printing. We also propose a modified print nozzle geometry, resulting in ultrafine traces (line width < 6 μm, overspray < 0.1 μm). Compared to printing without acoustic focusing, the line width of the traces decreases to 60 ± 5% while their conductivity increases to 180 ± 5%. Additionally, several 8 h experiments demonstrate excellent printing stability. Scaffolds have garnered considerable attention for enhancing neural repairment for spinal cord injury (SCI) treatment. Both microstructural features and biochemical modifications play pivotal roles in influencing the interaction of cells with the scaffold, thereby affecting tissue regeneration. Here, a scaffold is designed with spiral structure and gradient peptide modification (GS) specifically for SCI treatment. The spiral structure provides crucial support and space, while the gradient peptide isoleucine-lysine-valine-alanine-valine (IKVAV) modification imparts directional guidance for neuronal and axonal extension. GS scaffold shows a significant nerve extension induction effect through its interlayer gap and gradient peptide density to dorsal root ganglia in vitro, while in vivo studies reveal its substantial promotion for functional recovery and neural repair. Additionally, the GS scaffold displays impressive drug-loading capacity, mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes can be efficiently loaded into the GS scaffold and delivered to the injury site, thereby synergistically promoting SCI repair. Background: It was essential to identify individuals at high risk of fragility fracture and prevented them due to the significant morbidity, mortality, and economic burden associated with fragility fracture. The quantitative ultrasound (QUS) showed promise in assessing bone structure characteristics and determining the risk of fragility fracture., Aims: To evaluate the performance of a multi-channel residual network (MResNet) based on ultrasonic radiofrequency (RF) signal to discriminate fragility fractures retrospectively in postmenopausal women, and compared it with the traditional parameter of QUS, speed of sound (SOS), and bone mineral density (BMD) acquired with dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA)., Methods: Using QUS, RF signal and SOS were acquired for 246 postmenopausal women. An MResNet was utilized, based on the RF signal, to categorize individuals with an elevated risk of fragility fracture. DXA was employed to obtain BMD at the lumbar, hip, and femoral neck. The fracture history of all adult subjects was gathered. Analyzing the odds ratios (OR) and the area under the receiver operator characteristic curves (AUC) was done to evaluate the effectiveness of various methods in discriminating fragility fracture., Results: Among the 246 postmenopausal women, 170 belonged to the non-fracture group, 50 to the vertebral group, and 26 to the non-vertebral fracture group. MResNet was competent to discriminate any fragility fracture (OR = 2.64; AUC = 0.74), Vertebral fracture (OR = 3.02; AUC = 0.77), and non-vertebral fracture (OR = 2.01; AUC = 0.69). After being modified by clinical covariates, the efficiency of MResNet was further improved to OR = 3.31-4.08, AUC = 0.81-0.83 among all fracture groups, which significantly surpassed QUS-SOS (OR = 1.32-1.36; AUC = 0.60) and DXA-BMD (OR = 1.23-2.94; AUC = 0.63-0.76)., Conclusions: This pilot cross-sectional study demonstrates that the MResNet model based on the ultrasonic RF signal shows promising performance in discriminating fragility fractures in postmenopausal women. When incorporating clinical covariates, the efficiency of the modified MResNet is further enhanced, surpassing the performance of QUS-SOS and DXA-BMD in terms of OR and AUC. These findings highlight the potential of the MResNet as a promising approach for fracture risk assessment. Ultrasound imaging offers a noninvasive, radiation-free method for visualizing internal tissues and organs, with deep penetration capabilities. This has established it as a crucial tool for physicians in diagnosing internal tissue pathologies and monitoring human conditions. Nonetheless, conventional ultrasound probes are often characterized by their rigidity and bulkiness. Designing a transducer that can seamlessly adapt to the contours and dynamics of soft, curved human skin presents significant technical hurdles. We present a novel flexible and stretchable ultrasound transducer (FSUT) designed for adaptability to large-curvature surfaces while preserving superior imaging quality. Central to this breakthrough is the innovative use of screen-printed silver nanowires (AgNWs) coupled with a composite elastic substrate, together ensuring robust and stable electrical and mechanical connections. Standard tensile and fatigue tests verify its durability. The mechanical, electrical, and acoustic properties of FSUTs are characterized using standard methods, with large tensile strains (≥110%), high flexibility ( R ≥ 1.4 mm), and lightweight ( ≤ 1.58 g) to meet the needs of wearable devices. Center frequency and -6-dB bandwidth are approximately 5.3 MHz and 66.47%, respectively. Images of the commercial anechoic cyst phantom yielded an axial and lateral resolution (depths of 10-70 mm) of approximately 0.31 and 0.46, and 0.34 and 0.84 mm, respectively. The complex curved surface imaging capabilities of FSUT were tested on agar-gelatin-based breast cyst phantoms under different curvatures. Finally, ultrasound images of the thyroid, brachial, and carotid arteries were also obtained from volunteer wearing FSUT.

Background and purpose intracranial hemorrhage risk in patients with cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) after mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) was investigated. We searched PubMed and Embase from inception to 29 August 2023 for relevant studies, calculated pooled odds ratio (ORs) of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) subtypes in AIS patients with CMB presence, 1-4 or ≥ 5 CMBs versus CMB absence, and with different CMB locations after mechanical thrombectomy. ICH subtypes included any ICH, symptomatic and asymptomatic ICH, hemorrhage outside infarct (including subarachnoid hemorrhage), hemorrhagic infarction, and parenchymal hemorrhage after mechanical thrombectomy. Five eligible studies enrolling 2051 patients were included. No significant association was shown between CMB locations (lobar, deep, infratentorial or mixed) and ICH risk. CMB presence or 1-4 CMBs did not significantly increase the risk of any ICH, symptomatic or asymptomatic ICH, ICH outside infarct, subarachnoid hemorrhage, hemorrhagic infarction, or parenchymal hemorrhage. CMBs ≥ 5 increased the risk of any ICH (OR 2.58, 95% CI 1.16-5.72), parenchymal hemorrhage (OR 3.38, 95% CI 1.43-7.97) and parenchymal hemorrhage-2 (OR 5.33, 2.05-13.86), without increasing hemorrhagic infarction or parenchymal haemorrhage-1 risk. After adjusted for possible confounding factors, increases in CMB burden were associated with hemorrhagic complications but not with symptomatic ICH. In AIS patients who received mechanical thrombectomy, no association was shown between CMB location and ICH risk. ICH risk was not significantly increased by CMB presence or 1-4 CMBs. Elevated ammonium (NH 4 -N) contents in groundwater are a global concern, yet the mobilization and enrichment mechanisms controlling NH 4 -N within riverside aquifers (RAS) remain poorly understood. RAS are important zones for nitrogen cycling and play a vital role in regulating groundwater NH 4 -N contents. This study conducted an integrated assessment of a hydrochemistry dataset using a combination of hydrochemical analyses and multivariate geostatistical methods to identify hydrochemical compositions and NH 4 -N distribution in the riverside aquifer within Central Yangtze River Basin, ultimately elucidating potential NH 4 -N sources and factors controlling NH 4 -N enrichment in groundwater ammonium hotspots. Compared to rivers, these hotspots exhibited extremely high levels of NH 4 -N (5.26 mg/L on average), which were mainly geogenic in origin. The results indicated that N-containing organic matter (OM) mineralization, strong reducing condition in groundwater and release of exchangeable NH 4 -N in sediment are main factors controlling these high concentrations of NH 4 -N. The Eh representing redox state was the dominant variable affecting NH 4 -N contents (50.17 % feature importance), with Fe 2+ and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) representing OM mineralization as secondary but important variables (26 % and 5.11 % feature importance, respectively). This study proposes a possible causative mechanism for the formation of these groundwater ammonium hotspots in RAS. Larger NH 4 -N sources through OM mineralization and greater NH 4 -N storage under strong reducing condition collectively drive NH 4 -N enrichment in the riverside aquifer. With increasing prevalence rate of depression by years, more attention has been paid to the influence of environmental pollutants on depression, but relationship between exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and depression is rarely studied. Therefore, this cross-sectional study use the National Center for Health Statistics (NHANES) database (2013-2016 years) to explore association between exposure to multiple VOCs and depression in general population. Multiple linear and logistic regression models were used to analyze the association between urinary VOC metabolism (mVOCs) and depression. To further analyze effect of multiple mVOCs mixed exposure, Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models were performed. A total of 3240 participants and 16 mVOCs were included in the analysis. Results showed that 10 mVOCs exposure were positively correlated with depression by multiple linear and logistic regression models, especially CYMA and MHBMA3, which also showed significant positive association with depression in BKMR model. Mixed exposure of multiple mVOCs was significantly positively correlated with depression. Gender differences were existed in effects of some VOCs concentrations on depression. AAMA, CYMA and MA had significant positive correlations with depression by women, and DHBMA had significant positive correlations with depression by men. Hence, this study showed that exposing to VOCs might have negative impacts on depression, and impact of CYMA and MHBMA3 on depression may be more evident, which provide new ideas for prevention and control of depression. Traditional fermented milks are produced through an inoculation process that involves the deliberate introduction of microorganisms that have been adapted and perpetuated across successive generations. However, the changes in the microbiota of traditional fermented milk during long-term inoculation fermentation in a laboratory environment remain unclear. In this study, we collected 5 samples of traditional fermented milk samples from 5 different counties in Tibet (3 kurut products) and Xinjiang (2 tarag products) of China, which served as starter cultures for a 9-mo continuous inoculation fermentation experiment. We analyzed the inter- and intrapopulation variations in the microbial communities of the collected samples, representing their macrodiversity and microdiversity, using shotgun metagenomic sequencing. Across all samples, we obtained a total of 186 high-quality metagenomic-assembled genomes, including 7 genera and 13 species with a relative abundance of more than 1%. The majority of these genomes were annotated as Lactobacillus helveticus (60.46%), Enterococcus durans (9.52%), and Limosilactobacillus fermentum (6.23%). We observed significant differences in species composition and abundance among the 5 initial inoculants. During the long-term inoculation fermentation, we found an overall increasing trend in species diversity, composition, and abundances of carbohydrate metabolism module-encoding genes in the fermented milk bacterial metagenome, while the fermented milk virome exhibited a relatively narrow range of variation. Lactobacillus helveticus, a dominant species in traditional fermented milk, displayed high stability during the long-term inoculation fermentation. Aim: The clinical characteristics associated with pulmonary function decline in patients with Tuberculosis-destroyed lung (TDL) remain uncertain. We categorize them based on the pattern of pulmonary function impairment, distinguishing between restrictive spirometric pattern (RSP) and obstructive spirometric pattern (OSP). We aim to compare the severity of these patterns with the clinical characteristics of TDL patients and analyze their correlation., Method: We conducted a retrospective analysis on the clinical data of TDL patients who underwent consecutive pulmonary function tests (PFT) from November 2002 to February 2023. We used the lower limit formula for normal values based on the 2012 Global Lung Function Initiative. We compared the clinical characteristics of RSP patients with those of OSP patients. The characteristics of RSP patients were analyzed using the tertiles of forced vital capacity percentage predicted (FVC% pred) decline based on PFT measurements, and the characteristics of OSP patients were analyzed using the tertiles of forced expiratory volume in 1 s percentage predicted (FEV 1 % pred) decline., Result: Among the RSP patients, those in the Tertile1 group (with lower FVC% pred) were more likely to have a higher of body mass index (BMI), spinal deformities, and C-reactive protein (CRP) compared to the other two groups (P for trend < 0.001, 0.027, and 0.013, respectively). Among OSP patients, those in the Tertile1 group (with lower FEV 1 % pred) showed an increasing trend in cough symptoms and contralateral lung infection compared to the Tertile 2-3 group (P for trend 0.036 and 0.009, respectively)., Conclusion: For TDL patients, we observed that Patients with high BMI, a higher proportion of spinal scoliosis, and abnormal elevation of CRP levels were more likely to have reduced FVC. Enterococcus faecium, Bifidobacterium, and Pediococcus acidilactici, as intestinal probiotics, have been proved to play a positive role in treating intestinal diseases, promoting growth and immune regulation in poultry. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of compound probiotics on growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, intestinal microbiome characteristics, as well as intestinal morphology in broiler chickens. Treatment diets with chlortetracycline and compound probiotics were used for two groups of sixty broilers each throughout the feeding process. Another group was fed the basal diet. The BW (2589.41 ± 13.10 g vs 2422.50 ± 19.08 g) and ADG (60.57 ± 0.31 g vs 56.60 ± 0.45 g) of the compound probiotics added feed treatment group were significantly increased, and the FCR was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). The supplementation of a compound probiotics enhanced the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus, Faecalibacterium, and norank&#95;f&#95;norank&#95;o&#95;Clostridia&#95;vadinBB60&#95;group (P < 0.05), and modulated the cecal microbiota structure, thereby promoting the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and elevating their levels (P < 0.05), particularly propionic and butyric acids. Furthermore, the administration of the compound probiotics supplements significantly enhanced the villi height, V/C ratio, and reduced the crypt depth (P < 0.05). In addition, the activity of digestive enzymes in the duodenum and jejunum was elevated (P < 0.05). Collectively, the selected compound probiotics supplemented in this experiment have demonstrated efficacy, warranting further application in practical production settings as a viable alternative to antibiotics, thereby facilitating efficient production and promoting gastrointestinal health., (© 2024. The DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK), catalytic subunit, also known as DNA-PKcs, is complexed with the heterodimer Ku70/Ku80 to form DNA-PK holoenzyme, which is well recognized as initiator in the nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) repair after double strand break (DSB). During NHEJ, DNA-PKcs is essential for both DNA end processing and end joining. Besides its classical function in DSB repair, DNA-PKcs also shows multifaceted functions in various biological activities such as class switch recombination (CSR) and variable (V) diversity (D) joining (J) recombination in B/T lymphocytes development, innate immunity through cGAS-STING pathway, transcription, alternative splicing, and so on, which are dependent on its function in NHEJ or not. Moreover, DNA-PKcs deficiency has been proven to be related with human diseases such as neurological pathogenesis, cancer, immunological disorder, and so on through different mechanisms. Therefore, it is imperative to summarize the latest findings about DNA-PKcs and diseases for better targeting DNA-PKcs, which have shown efficacy in cancer treatment in preclinical models. Here, we discuss the multifaceted roles of DNA-PKcs in human diseases, meanwhile, we discuss the progresses of DNA-PKcs inhibitors and their potential in clinical trials. Aim: To investigate the short-term efficacy and safety of inebilizumab for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD)., Methods: A total of 33 patients with NMOSD treated with inebilizumab (Group INB, n =15) or rituximab (Group RTX, n =18) in addition to high-dose glucocorticoids were included. Both groups underwent hormone shock therapy during the acute phase. Subsequently, Group INB received inebilizumab injections during the remission phase, while Group RTX received rituximab injections. A comparison of aquaporins 4 (AQP4) titer values, peripheral blood B lymphocyte counts, and visual function recovery was conducted before and 8wk after treatment. Additionally, adverse reactions and patient tolerability were analyzed after using inebilizumab treatment regimes., Results: Following inebilizumab treatment, there was a significantly improvement in the visual acuity of NMOSD patients ( P <0.05), accompanied by a notable decrease in AQP4 titer values and B lymphocyte ratio ( P <0.05). Moreover, inebilizumab treatment showed a partial effect in preventing optic nerve atrophy ( P <0.05). However, there were no significant differences in other therapeutic effects compared to rituximab, which has previously demonstrated substantial therapeutic efficacy ( P >0.05). Furthermore, inebilizumab exhibited higher safety levels than that of rituximab injections., Conclusion: The combination of inebilizumab and high-dose glucocorticoids proves to be effective. In comparison to rituximab injections, inebilizumab displays better tolerance and safety. Moreover, it demonstrates a partial effect in preventing optic nerve atrophy. Background: Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) is an enigmatic physiological feature that influences blood supply within glioblastoma (GBM) tumors for their sustained growth. Previous studies identify NFATC3, FOSL1 and HNRNPA2B1 as significant mediators of VEGFR2, a key player in vasculogenesis, and their molecular relationships may be crucial for VM in GBM., Aims: The aim of this study was to understand how NFATC3, FOSL1 and HNRNPA2B1 collectively influence VM in GBM., Methods: We have investigated the underlying gene regulatory mechanisms for VM in GBM cell lines U251 and U373 in vitro and in vivo. In vitro cell-based assays were performed to explore the role of NFATC3, FOSL1 and HNRNPA2B1 in GBM cell proliferation, VM and migration, in the context of RNA interference (RNAi)-mediated knockdown alongside corresponding controls. Western blotting and qRT-PCR assays were used to examine VEGFR2 expression levels. CO-IP was employed to detect protein-protein interactions, ChIP was used to detect DNA-protein complexes, and RIP was used to detect RNA-protein complexes. Histochemical staining was used to detect VM tube formation in vivo., Results: Focusing on NFATC3, FOSL1 and HNRNPA2B1, we found each was significantly upregulated in GBM and positively correlated with VM-like cellular behaviors in U251 and U373 cell lines. Knockdown of NFATC3, FOSL1 or HNRNPA2B1 each resulted in decreased levels of VEGFR2, a key growth factor gene that drives VM, as well as the inhibition of proliferation, cell migration and extracorporeal VM activity. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) studies and luciferase reporter gene assays revealed that NFATC3 binds to the promoter region of VEGFR2 to enhance VEGFR2 gene expression. Notably, FOSL1 interacts with NFATC3 as a co-factor to potentiate the DNA-binding capacity of NFATC3, resulting in enhanced VM-like cellular behaviors. Also, level of NFATC3 protein in cells was enhanced through HNRNPA2B1 binding of NFATC3 mRNA. Furthermore, RNAi-mediated silencing of NFATC3, FOSL1 and HNRNPA2B1 in GBM cells reduced their capacity for tumor formation and VM-like behaviors in vivo., Conclusion: Taken together, our findings identify NFATC3 as an important mediator of GBM tumor growth through its molecular and epistatic interactions with HNRNPA2B1 and FOSL1 to influence VEGFR2 expression and VM-like cellular behaviors., (© 2024. Background: With cardiovascular diseases standing as a leading cause of mortality worldwide, the interplay between diet-induced inflammation, as quantified by the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII), and heart failure biomarker NT-proBNP has not been investigated in the general population., Methods: This study analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2004, encompassing 10,766 individuals. The relationship between the DII and NT-proBNP levels was evaluated through multivariable-adjusted regression models. To pinpoint crucial dietary components influencing NT-proBNP levels, the LASSO regression model was utilized. Stratified analyses were then conducted to examine the associations within specific subgroups to identify differential effects of the DII on NT-proBNP levels across diverse populations., Results: In individuals without heart failure, a unit increase in the DII was significantly associated with an increase in NT-proBNP levels. Specifically, NT-proBNP levels rose by 9.69 pg/mL (95% CI: 6.47, 12.91; p < 0.001) without adjustments, 8.57 pg/mL (95% CI: 4.97, 12.17; p < 0.001) after adjusting for demographic factors, and 5.54 pg/mL (95% CI: 1.75, 9.32; p = 0.001) with further adjustments for health variables. In participants with a history of heart failure, those in the second and third DII quartile showed a trend towards higher NT-proBNP levels compared to those in the lowest quartile, with increases of 717.06 pg/mL (95% CI: 76.49-1357.63, p = 0.030) and 855.49 pg/mL (95% CI: 156.57-1554.41, p = 0.018). The lungs are the largest surface of the body and the most important organ in the respiratory system, which are constantly exposed to the external environment. Tissue Resident Macrophages in lung constitutes the important defense against external pathogens. Macrophages connects the innate and adaptive immune system, and also plays important roles in carcinogenesis and cancer immunotherapy. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, with an overall five-year survival rate of only 21%. Macrophages that infiltrate or aggregate in lung tumor microenvironment are defined as tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). TAMs are the main components of immune cells in the lung tumor microenvironment. The differentiation and maturation process of TAMs can be roughly divided into two different types: classical activation pathway produces M1 tumor-associated macrophages, and bypass activation pathway produces M2 tumor-associated macrophages. Studies have found that TAMs are related to tumor invasion, metastasis, and treatment resistance, and show potential as a new target for tumor immunotherapy. Abdominal wall defects are common clinical diseases, and mesh repair is the standard treatment method. The most commonly used polypropylene (PP) mesh in clinical practice has the advantages of good mechanical properties, stable performance, and effective tissue integration effect. However, direct contact between abdominal viscera and PP mesh can lead to severe abdominal adhesions. To prevent this, the development of a hydrogel-PP composite mesh with anti-adhesive properties may be an effective measure. Herein, biofunctional hydrogel loaded with rosmarinic acid is developed by modifying chitosan and Pluronic F127, which possesses suitable physical and chemical properties and commendable in vitro biocompatibility. In the repair of full-thickness abdominal wall defects in rats, hydrogels are injected onto the surface of PP mesh and applied to intraperitoneal repair. The results indicate that the use of hydrogel-PP composite mesh can alleviate abdominal adhesions resulting from traditional PP mesh implantation by decreasing local inflammatory response, reducing oxidative stress, and regulating the fibrinolytic system. Keloids are pathological scar tissue resulting from skin trauma or spontaneous formation, often accompanied by itching and pain. Although GNAS antisense RNA 1 (GNAS-AS1) shows abnormal upregulation in keloids, the underlying molecular mechanism is unclear. The levels of genes and proteins in clinical tissues from patients with keloids and human keloid fibroblasts (HKFs) were measured using quantitative reverse transcription PCR, western blot and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The features of HKFs, including proliferation and migration, were evaluated using cell counting kit 8 and a wound healing assay. The colocalization of GNAS-AS1 and miR-196a-5p in HKFs was measured using fluorescence in situ hybridization. The relationships among GNAS-AS1, miR-196a-5p and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12) in samples from patients with keloids were analysed by Pearson correlation analysis. Gene interactions were validated by chromatin immunoprecipitation and luciferase reporter assays. GNAS-AS1 and CXCL12 expression were upregulated and miR-196a-5p expression was downregulated in clinical tissues from patients with keloids. GNAS-AS1 knockdown inhibited proliferation, migration, and extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation of HKFs, all of which were reversed by miR-196a-5p downregulation. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) induced GNAS-AS1 transcription through GNAS-AS1 promoter interaction, and niclosamide, a STAT3 inhibitor, decreased GNAS-AS1 expression. GNAS-AS1 positively regulated CXCL12 by sponging miR-196-5p. Furthermore, CXCL12 knockdown restrained STAT3 phosphorylation in HKFs. Purpose: Because incidental thyroid nodules (ITNs) are common extrapulmonary findings in low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scans for lung cancer screening, we aimed to investigate the frequency of ITNs on LDCT scans separately on baseline and annual repeat scans, the frequency of malignancy among the ITNs, and any association with demographic, clinical, CT characteristics., Methods: Retrospective case series of all 2309 participants having baseline and annual repeat screening in an Early Lung and Cardiac Action Program (MS-ELCAP) LDCT lung screening program from January 2010 to December 2016 was performed. Frequency of ITNs in baseline and annual repeat rounds were determined. Multivariable regression analysis was performed to identify significant predictors., Results: Dominant ITNs were seen in 2.5 % of 2309 participants on baseline and in 0.15 % of participants among 4792 annual repeat LDCTs. The low incidence of new ITNs suggests slow growth as it would take approximately an average of 16.8 years for a new ITN to be detected on annual rounds of screening. Newly detected ITNs on annual repeat LDCT were all smaller than 15 mm. Regression analysis showed that the increasing of age, coronary artery calcifications score and breast density grade were significant predictors for females having an ITN. No significant predictors were found for ITNs in males., Conclusion: ITNs are detected at LDCT however, no malignancy was found. Purpose: During the major shift in China's policies on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), many residents will be infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) over a short period, including a few patients with breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Moreover, it is unknown whether this comorbidity affects the efficacy of NAC for breast cancer and the patient's psychological state and quality of life (QOL). This study aims to answer these questions., Methods: The clinical data of 2,793 patients with breast cancer who received NAC at The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University were retrospectively collected. The infected and non-infected groups were divided according to whether they were infected with COVID-19 during NAC. Propensity score matching was used to reduce patient selection bias. The effectiveness, psychological well-being, and QOL of the two groups were compared., Results: No discernible differences were observed in the pathological complete response rates ( p = 0.307) and major histological responses rate ( p = 0.398) between the infected and non-infected groups. Following the full course of NAC, the Functional Assessment of Cancer Treatment General ( p < 0.001) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy for Breast Cancer ( p < 0.001) were lower in the infected group than the non-infected group, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) anxiety scale ( p < 0.001) and HADS depression scale ( p < 0.001) were considerably higher in the infected group than the non-infected group., Conclusion: With timely treatment and effective medical management, SARS-CoV-2 does not appear to affect the efficacy of NAC; however, it can significantly affect the QOL of patients and increase their psychological distress. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic-loaded calcium sulfate combined with autologous iliac bone transplantation in the treatment of limb-localized osteomyelitis (Cierny-Mader type III) and analyze the causes and risk factors associated with infection recurrence., Methods: Clinical data of 163 patients with localized osteomyelitis of the extremities treated with antibiotic-loaded calcium sulfate combined with autologous iliac bone transplantation in Xi'an Honghui Hospital from January 2017 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were diagnosed with localized osteomyelitis through clinical examination and treated with antibiotic-loaded calcium sulfate combined with autologous iliac bone. Based on the infection recurrence status, the patients were divided into the recurrence group and the non-recurrence group. The clinical data of the two groups were compared using univariate analysis. Subsequently, the distinct datasets were included in the binary logistic regression analysis to determine the risk and protective factors., Results: This study included 163 eligible patients, with an average age of 51.0 years (standard deviation: 14.9). After 12 months of follow-up, 25 patients (15.3%) experienced infection recurrence and were included in the recurrence group; the remaining 138 patients were included in the non-recurrence group. Among the 25 patients with recurrent infection, 20 required reoperation, four received antibiotic treatment alone, and one refused further treatment. Univariate analysis showed that education level, smoking, hypoproteinemia, open injury-related infection, and combined flap surgery were associated with infection recurrence ( p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that open injury-related infection (odds ratio [OR] = 35.698; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 5.997-212.495; p < 0.001) and combined flap surgery (OR = 41.408; 95% CI: 5.806-295.343; p < 0.001) were independent risk factors for infection recurrence. Meanwhile, high education level (OR = 0.009; 95% CI: 0.001-0.061; p < 0.001) was a protective factor for infection recurrence., Conclusion: Antibiotic-loaded calcium sulfate combined with autologous iliac bone transplantation is an effective method for treating limb-localized osteomyelitis. Patients without previous combined flap surgery and non-open injury-related infections have a relatively low probability of recurrence of infection after treatment with this surgical method. Additionally, patients with a history of smoking and hypoproteinemia should pay attention to preventing the recurrence of infection after operation. Bio-inspired in nature, using nanomaterials to fabricate the vivid bionic structural color and intelligent stimulus responsive interface as smart skin or optical devices are widely concerned and remain a huge challenge. Here, the bionic flexible film is designed and fabricated with chiral nanointerface and tunable hydrophilic-hydrophobic by the ultrasonic energy perturbation strategy and crosslinking of the cellulose nanocrystals (CNC). An intelligent nanointerface with adjustable hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties is constructed by the supramolecular assembly using a smart ionic liquid molecule. The bionic flexible film possessed the variable hydrophilic-hydrophobic, stimulus responsive, and robust iridescent structural color. The reflective wavelength and the helical pitch of the film can be easily modulated through the ultrasonic energy perturbation strategy. The bionic flexible film by covalent cross-linking has excellent robustness, good elasticity and flexibility. The tunable brilliant structural color of the chiral nanointerface is attributed to the surface charge change of the CNC photonic crystal, which is disturbed by ultrasonic energy perturbation. The bionic flexible film with tunable structure color has intelligent hydrophilic and hydrophobic stimulus response properties. In this study, a commercial sodium butyrate protected by a new buffer salt solution (NSB) was tested to determine whether it can be used as an antibiotic alternative in broiler production. A total of 192 1-day-old broilers were randomly allocated to three dietary treatments: soybean meal diet (CON), antibiotic diet (ANT, basal diet + 100 mg/kg aureomycin), and NSB (basal diet + 800 mg/kg NSB). The growth performance, serum anti-inflammatory cytokines, intestinal morphology, gut barrier function, antioxidative parameters, SCFAs' content, and cecal microbiota were analyzed. The result showed that NSB significantly improved ADFI and ADG ( p < 0.01), and decreased FCR ( p < 0.01). Serum anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 was up-regulated ( p < 0.01), and pro-inflammatory TNF-α was down-regulated ( p < 0.05) by NSB supplementation. H&E results showed that VH and the VH/CD ratio significantly increased ( p < 0.05) in the jejunum and ileum in the NSB group. Furthermore, ZO-1 ( p < 0.01), claudin-1 ( p < 0.01), and occludin ( p < 0.05) in the jejunum and claudin-1 ( p < 0.01) and mucin-2 ( p < 0.05) in the ileum were significantly up-regulated in the NSB group. Additionally, SOD ( p < 0.05) and the T-AOC/MDA ratio ( p < 0.01) in the jejunum and SOD in the ileum were significantly increased ( p < 0.05) in the NSB group. The MDA level also significantly increased ( p < 0.01) in the ANT group in the jejunum. Propionic acid ( p < 0.05) and butyric acid ( p < 0.01) content significantly increased in the NSB group in the jejunum and ileum segments. The 16S rRNA sequencing results showed no significant difference ( p > 0.05) in alpha and beta diversity among the groups. LEFSe analysis also indicated that Peptostreptococcaceae , Colidextribacter , Firmicutes , Oscillospira , and Erysipelatoclostridiaceae , which promote SCFA production ( p < 0.05), were identified as dominant taxon-enriched bacterial genera in the NSB group. The Spearman correlation analysis revealed that Colidextribacter with ADFI, ADG, VH, claudin-1 ( p < 0.05), and unclassified&#95;f&#95;&#95;Peptostreptococcaceae with ADFI, IL-10, and ZO-1 were positively correlated ( p < 0.05). Furthermore, ADFI and ADG with IL-10, claudin-1, SOD, T-AOC, and butyric acid ( p < 0.05), and similarly, ADG with VH ( p < 0.05), showed a positive correlation. In conclusion, NSB enhanced the growth performance by improving jejunum and ileum morphology, and serum anti-inflammatory cytokines, and by regulating the intestinal barrier function and antioxidant capacity, SCFAs' content, and cecum microbiota, showing its potential use as an alternative to antibiotics in poultry nutrition.

Identifying high-risk factors (heavy metals (HMs) and pollution sources) by coupling receptor models and health risk assessment model (HRA) is a novel approach within the field of risk assessment. However, this coupled model ignores the contribution of spatial differentiation to high-risk factors, resulting in the assessment being subjective. Taking Dongting Plain (DTP) as an example, a coupling framework by jointly using the positive matrix factorization model (PMF), HRA, Monte Carlo simulation, and geo-detector was developed, aiming to identify high-risk factors in groundwater, and further explore key environmental variables influencing the spatial heterogeneity of high-risk factors. The results showed that at least 82.86 % of non-carcinogenic risks and 97.41 % of carcinogenic risks were unacceptable for people of all ages, especially infants and children. According to the relationships among HMs, pollution sources, and health risks, As and natural sources were defined as high-risk HMs and sources, respectively. The interactions among Holocene thickness, oxidation-reduction potential, and dissolved organic carbon emerged as the primary drivers of spatial variability in high-risk factors, with their combined explanatory power reaching up to 74%. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) potentially serve as ideal antimicrobial agents for the treatment of polymicrobial abdominal infections due to their broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and excellent biocompatibility. However, the balance of chain length, positive charges, and hydrophobicity on the antimicrobial activity of AMPs are still far from being optimal. Herein, a series of AMPs ([KX] n -NH 2 , X = Ile, Leu or Phe, n = 3, 4, 5, or 6) with varied charges and hydrophobicity for the treatment of polymicrobial abdominal infections are designed. Specifically, [KI] 4 -NH 2 peptide exhibits the best in vitro antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and -negative bacteria, as well as fungal strains. Based on the good cell biocompatibility, [KI] 4 -NH 2 peptide is found to have negligible in vivo toxicity at the dosage of up to 28 mg kg -1 . Furthermore, great in vivo therapeutic efficacy of [KI] 4 -NH 2 peptide against S. typhimurium is demonstrated in the mice abdominal infection model. The design of short sequence of antimicrobial peptides with a charge/hydrophobicity balanced structures provides a simple and efficient strategy for potential clinical applications of antimicrobial peptide-based biomaterials in a variety of bacterial infection diseases., (© 2023 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Lamellar metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted significant attention in the field of electrochemical sensing due to their abundant open active sites and specific electron conductivity. Herein, by employing a bottom-up synthesis strategy, rhombic lamellar heterometallic CoNi-MOFs with varying thicknesses are constructed. This is achieved by using 4-methylpyridine as a capping agent based on the (4,6)-linked Co 2 (azpy) 2 (bptc) (azpy = 4,4'-azopyridine, bptc = 3,3',5,5'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid) structure with a fsc topology and by introducing Ni species simultaneously. To mitigate sulfur deposition on electrodes, the triple pulse amperometry (TPA) method is employed. Among the synthesized lamellar CoNi-MOFs, lamellar CoNi-MOF-3 with the minimum thickness exhibits an optimal electrochemical sensing performance toward hydrogen sulfide, with a sensitivity of 119.3 μA·mM -1 ·cm -2 in the linear range of 2-2000 μM. This study pioneers a new approach to the controlled construction and electrochemical activity modification of lamellar MOF materials.

Background: Osteomyelitis is considered as a deleterious inflammatory condition affecting the bone, primarily attributed to pathogenic infection. However, the underlying factors predisposing individuals to osteomyelitis remain incompletely elucidated. The immune system plays a multifaceted role in the progression of this condition, yet previous observational studies and randomized controlled trials investigating the association between circulating immune cell counts and osteomyelitis have been constrained. In order to address this knowledge gap, we conducted a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to evaluate the impact of diverse immune cell counts on the risk of developing osteomyelitis., Methods: In our study, we utilized single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that have been strongly linked to circulating immune cells or specific lymphocyte subtypes, as identified in large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS). These SNPs served as instrumental variables (IVs) for our MR analysis. We employed a more relaxed clumping threshold to conduct MR analysis on several related lymphocyte subtypes. To estimate causal effects, we utilized the Wald ratio, as well as the random-effects inverse variance weighted (IVW) and weighted median (WM) methods. To enhance the credibility of our results, we performed F-statistic calculations and a series of sensitivity analyses., Results: Our findings revealed a significant correlation between the absolute count of circulating lymphocytes and the risk of osteomyelitis [odds ratio(OR) 1.20；95 % confidence interval (CI), 1.08-1.32；P = 0.0005]. Furthermore, we identified a causal relationship between the absolute count of CD8 + T cells and susceptibility to osteomyelitis (OR 1.16; 95 % CI, 1.04-1.30; P = 0.0098). Importantly, these findings remained robust across a wide range of sensitivity analyses., Conclusion: Through our MR analysis, we have provided evidence supporting a causal relationship between genetic predisposition to higher circulating immune cell counts and an increased risk of osteomyelitis. Specifically, our findings highlight the association between elevated CD8 + T cell counts and a heightened susceptibility to osteomyelitis. IL-4, an immunoregulatory cytokine, plays a role in various cellular pathways and is known to regulate M2 macrophage polarization. Numerous studies have suggested that promoting the polarization of macrophages toward the M2 phenotype is beneficial for myocardial infarction (MI) recovery. However, whether IL-4 can achieve therapeutic effects in MI by regulating M2 macrophage polarization remains unclear. In this study, the authors observed that IL-4 increased the proportion of M2 macrophages in the ischemic myocardium compared to the PBS group. Additionally, IL-4 reduced the infiltration of inflammatory cells and the expression of proinflammatory-related proteins, while enhancing the expression of genes associated with tissue repair. Furthermore, IL-4 facilitated the recovery of cardiac function and reduced fibrosis in the post-MI phase. Importantly, when macrophages were depleted, the therapeutic benefits of IL-4 mentioned above were attenuated. An important component contributing to the onset of epilepsy is the death of hippocampal neurons. Several studies have shown that Dravet syndrome model mice: Scn1a KO mice have a high number of apoptotic neurons following seizures, but the precise mechanism underlying this remains unclear. The aim of this research was to elucidate the potential molecular mechanism of neuronal apoptosis in Scn1a KO mice by integrating proteomics and transcriptomics, with the ultimate goal of offering better neuroprotection. We found that apoptotic processes were enriched in both proteomic and transcriptomic GO analyses, and KEGG results also indicated that differential proteins and genes play a role in neurotransmission, the cell cycle, apoptosis, and neuroinflammation. Then, we examined the upstream and downstream KGML interactions of the pathways to determine the relationship between the two omics, and we found that the HIF-1 signaling pathway plays a significant role in the onset and apoptosis of epilepsy. Meanwhile, the expression of the apoptosis-related protein VHL decreased in this pathway, and the expression of p21 was upregulated. Therefore, this study suggests that VHL/HIF-1α/p21 might be involved in the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons in Scn1a KO mice.

Background: The Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) device is the most commonly used implant to fix unstable femoral trochanteric fractures (UFTFs), but it has a relatively high incidence of complications. Due to this factor, the modified intramedullary nail (MIN) was created to treat patients with UFTFs. The aim was to exhibit the MIN and make a comparison with PFNA and InterTAN using biomechanical methods., Methods: An adult UFTF model was developed using Mimics software. The PFNA, InterTAN nail, and MIN models were drawn referring to the corresponding parameters and installed in the fracture models. Vertical, anteroposterior (AP) bending, and torsion loads of the femoral head were set in advance and loaded onto the fracture models. The value of maximal displacement and von Mises stress was evaluated via finite element analysis (FEA)., Results: The MIN model had smaller values for maximal displacement than that of the PFNA model, and the increase in displacement was less pronounced for the MIN compared to PFNA under increasing vertical loads. For the indicator of von Mises stress, the MIN model showed lower stress compared with the PFNA model in vertical loads ranging from 300 N to 2100 N. 2,4-dinitroanisole (DNAN), an insensitive explosive, has replaced trinitrotoluene (TNT) in many melt-cast explosives to improve the safety of ammunition and becomes a promising material to desensitize novel explosives of high sensitivity. Here, we combine thermogravimetric-Fourier transform infrared spectrometry-Mass spectrometry (TG-FTIR-MS), density functional theory (DFT), and ReaxFF molecular dynamics (MD) to investigate its thermal decomposition and detonation mechanisms. As revealed by TG-FTIR-MS, the thermal decomposition of DNAN starts at ca. 453 K when highly active NO 2 is produced and quickly converted to NO resulting in the formation of a large amount of Ph(OH)(OH 2 )OCH 3 + . DFT calculations show that the activation energy of DNAN is higher than that of TNT due to the lack of α-H. Further steps in both thermal decomposition and detonation reactions of the DNAN are dominated by bimolecular O-transfers. ReaxFF MD indicates that DNAN has a lower heat of explosion than TNT, in accordance with the observation that the activation energies of polynitroaromatic explosives are inversely proportional to their heat of explosion. Objective: To compare the effects of allogeneic tendon coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction combined with Kirschner wire fixation and clavicular hook plate fixation on early postoperative pain, postoperative shoulder joint function score and shoulder joint mobility in patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocation., Methods: From January 2020 to January 2023, 43 patients with acromioclavicular joint dislocation admitted to Xi 'an Honghui Hospital were included. Among them, 24 patients were treated with the clavicular hook plate technique (Hook Plate,HP) group, and 19 patients were treated with allogeneic tendon coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction combined with the Kirschner wire technique (Allogeneic Tendon, AT) group. The Constant-Murley score of shoulder joint function 6 months after operation, postoperative shoulder joint activity, preoperative and postoperative pain, operation time, intraoperative blood loss and complications were compared between the two groups., Results: All 43 patients were followed up for an average of 9.7 (9-12) months. The intraoperative blood loss in the allogeneic tendon group was less than in the hook plate group. The Constant-Murley shoulder function score was higher than that in the hook plate group 6 months after the operation. The abduction and lifting activity was greater than that in the hook plate group. The visual analogue scale scores at 3 days and 14 days after operation were lower than those in the hook plate group. The difference was statistically significant ( p < 0.001). There was 1 case (5.3%) of exudation around the Kirschner needle track in the allogeneic tendon reconstruction group, and 5 cases (20.8%) of complications in the hook plate group, including 1 case of internal fixation stimulation, 2 cases of acromion impingement syndrome, 1 case of acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis, and 1 case of shoulder joint stiffness. The complication rate of the allogeneic tendon group was lower than that of the hook plate group., Conclusion: The clinical efficacy of allogeneic tendon coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction combined with Kirschner wire fixation in treating acromioclavicular joint dislocation (Rockwood type III-V) is better than hook plate internal fixation. Myocardial infarction (MI) results in an impaired heart function. Conductive hydrogel patch-based therapy has been considered as a promising strategy for cardiac repair after MI. In our study, we fabricated a three-dimensional (3D) printed conductive hydrogel patch made of fibrinogen scaffolds and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) combined with graphene oxide (GO) flakes (MSC@GO), capitalizing on GO's excellent mechanical property and electrical conductivity. The MSC@GO hydrogel patch can be attached to the epicardium via adhesion to provide strong electrical integration with infarcted hearts, as well as mechanical and regeneration support for the infarcted area, thereby up-regulating the expression of connexin 43 (Cx43) and resulting in effective MI repair in vivo . In addition, MI also triggers apoptosis and damage of cardiomyocytes (CMs), hindering the normal repair of the infarcted heart. GO flakes exhibit a protective effect against the apoptosis of implanted MSCs. In the mouse model of MI, MSC@GO hydrogel patch implantation supported cardiac repair by reducing cell apoptosis, promoting gap connexin protein Cx43 expression, and then boosting cardiac function. Together, this study demonstrated that the conductive hydrogel patch has versatile conductivity and mechanical support function and could therefore be a promising candidate for heart repair.

How to deal with large tibial bone defects is still controversial. The purpose of this research was to compare the semi-focal bone transport (SFBT) technique with traditional bone transport (TBT) technique for treating such patients. Sixty-two patients were included and retrospectively analyzed. In all cases, after radical debridement large tibial bone defects remained. Patients were treated by the SFBT or TBT technique. The distraction, consolidation duration and complications were recorded by the patients' medical files. Based on the Association for the Study and Application of Methods of Ilizarov (ASAMI) standard, the bone and functional results were evaluated. The mean bone defect size was 7.7 ± 1.6 cm and 7.5 ± 2.1 cm for SFBT and TBT patients. The mean external fixation index (EFI) was 1.51 ± 0.14 months/cm and 1.89 ± 0.25 months/cm for SFBT and TBT patients (p < 0.05), respectively. With respect to bone and function results, there was no significant differences between the two groups (p > 0.05). The mean number of complications per patient was 1.1 ± 0.6 and 1.6 ± 0.7 for SFBT and TBT patients (p < 0.05). Compared to the traditional bone transport technique, patients using the semi-focal bone transport technique achieved better clinical effects, including shorter EFI and less complications.
