Good aerobic and metabolic fitness associates with better cognitive performance and brain health. Conversely, poor metabolic health predisposes to neurodegenerative diseases. Our previous findings indicate that rats selectively bred for Low Capacity for Running (LCR) show less synaptic plasticity and more inflammation in the hippocampus and perform worse in tasks requiring flexible cognition than rats bred for High Capacity for Running (HCR). Here we aimed to determine whether hippocampal electrophysiological activity related to learning and memory would be impaired in LCR compared to HCR rats. We also studied whether an exercise intervention could even out the possible differences. We conducted in vivo recordings from the dorsal hippocampus under terminal urethane anesthesia in middle-aged sedentary males and female rats, and in females allowed to access running wheels for 6 weeks. Our results indicate stronger long-term potentiation (LTP) in the CA3-CA1 synapse in HCR than LCR rats, and in female than male rats. Compared to LCR rats, HCR rats had more dentate spikes and more gamma epochs, the occurrence of which also correlated positively with the magnitude of LTP. Voluntary running reduced the differences between female LCR and HCR rats. In conclusion, low innate fitness links to reduced hippocampal function and plasticity which can seems to improve with voluntary aerobic exercise even in middle age., (Copyright © 2024. Background: Gastrointestinal symptoms are common in Parkinson's disease (PD), but their neurophysiological correlates are not well understood. We recently reported that functional gastrointestinal symptoms were not associated with asymmetry per se but might be associated with lower left striatal dopamine transporter (DAT) binding. The purpose of this study was to further investigate if specific gastrointestinal symptoms associate with monoamine transporter changes in specific striatal or extrastriatal areas., Methods: Ninety PD patients, who underwent DAT ¹ 2 3 I-FP-CIT SPECT imaging, were assessed using the MDS-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale part III, Rome III, and Wexner constipation score. DAT binding was calculated from striatal subregions using region-to-occipital cortex ratio. Voxel-wise analysis was used to assess the relationship between gastrointestinal symptoms and striatal DAT and extrastriatal serotonin transporter (SERT) binding., Results: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) criteria were fulfilled in 17 patients and were linked to higher ¹ 2 3 I-FP-CIT binding in the right posterior putamen and adjacent areas as compared to patients without IBS. No other significant associations between gastrointestinal symptoms and DAT or SERT binding were found., Conclusions: These findings suggest that PD patients with IBS may have higher DAT binding in the right hemisphere. Good aerobic fitness associates positively with cognitive performance and brain health and conversely, low aerobic fitness predisposes to neurodegenerative diseases. To study how genotype together with exercise, started at older age, affects brain and behavior, we utilized rats that differ in inherited aerobic fitness. Rats bred for Low Capacity for Running (LCR) are shown to display less synaptic plasticity and more inflammation in the hippocampus and perform worse than rats bred for a High Capacity for Running (HCR) in tasks requiring flexible cognition. Here we used middle-aged (∼ 16 months) HCR and LCR rats to study how genotype and sex associate with anxiety and neural information filtering, termed sensory gating. Further, we assessed how inherited aerobic capacity associates with hippocampus-dependent learning, measured with contextual fear conditioning task. In females, we also investigated the effects of voluntary wheel running (5 weeks) on these characteristics. Our results indicate that independent of sex or voluntary running, HCR rats were more anxious in open-field tasks, exhibited lower sensory gating and learned more efficiently in contextual fear conditioning task than LCR rats. Voluntary running did not markedly affect innate behavior but slightly decreased the differences between female LCR and HCR rats in fear learning. In conclusion, inherited fitness seems to determine cognitive and behavioral traits independent of sex. Numerous studies have described specific metabolites as biomarkers of severe liver diseases, but very few have measured gut microbiota (GM)-produced metabolites in fatty liver disease. We aimed at finding GM signatures and metabolite markers in plasma and feces related to high liver fat content. Based on imaging, we divided study participants into low (<5%, LF, n  =   25) and high (>5%, HF, n  =   39) liver fat groups. Fecal (LF n  =   14, HF n  =   25) and plasma (LF n  =   11, HF n  =   7) metabolomes of subsets of participants were studied using liquid chromatography/high resolution mass spectrometry. The GM were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Additionally, blood clinical variables and diet were studied. Dyslipidemia, higher liver enzymes and insulin resistance characterized the HF group. No major differences in diet were found between the groups. In the GM, the HF group had lower abundance of Bacteroides and Prevotellaceae NK3B31 group than the LF group after adjusting for metformin use or obesity. In feces, the HF group had higher levels of lysine and histidine degradation products, while 6-hydroxybetatestosterone (metabolized by CYP3A4) was low. Higher plasma levels of caffeine and its metabolites in the HF group indicate that the activity of hepatic CYP1A2 was lower than in the LF group. Our results suggest, that low fecal Prevotellaceae NK3B31 and Bacteroides abundance, and increased lysine and histidine degradation may serve as GM biomarkers of high liver fat. Altered plasma caffeine metabolites and lowered testosterone metabolism may specify decreased CYP activities, and their potential utility, as biomarkers of fatty liver disease. IMPORTANCE Because the high prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease sets diagnostic challenges to health care, identification of new biomarkers of the disease that in the future could have potential utility as diagnostic biomarkers of high liver fat content is important. Our results show that increased amino acid degradation products in the feces may be such biomarkers. In the blood, molecules that indicate defective hepatic metabolic enzyme activities were identified in individuals with high liver fat content.

Diagnostic usefulness of the floating door sign was tested in 144 PD patients, 41 essential tremor patients and 38 controls. There were no differences in the presence of floating door sign between PD and ET patients. Academic entrepreneurship and the commercialization of science have transformed higher education in recent decades. Although there is ample research on the topic, less is known about how individual scientists experience and perceive the transformation. Drawing on a narratological approach to sensemaking, this study examines how entrepreneurial scientists in Finland and Israel make sense of and narrate the perceived changes in the interface between science, university, and industry. An analysis of 53 semi-structured interviews reveals three sensemaking narratives demonstrating how scientists' interactions with the industry have engendered perceived shifts in 'regimes of value' in universities. These narratives focus on: (1) bi-directional learning between academy and industry; (2) the use of new valuation devices and practices; and (3) changing relationships between scientists and universities. Gut microbiota alterations in Parkinson's disease (PD) have been found in several studies and are suggested to contribute to the pathogenesis of PD. However, previous results could not be adequately adjusted for a potential confounding effect of PD medication and disease duration, as almost all PD participants were already using dopaminergic medication and were included several years after diagnosis. Here, the gut microbiome composition of treatment-naive de novo PD subjects was assessed compared to healthy controls (HC) in two large independent case-control cohorts (n = 136 and 56 PD, n = 85 and 87 HC), using 16S-sequencing of fecal samples. Relevant variables such as technical batches, diet and constipation were assessed for their potential effects. Overall gut microbiome composition differed between PD and HC in both cohorts, suggesting gut microbiome alterations are already present in de novo PD subjects at the time of diagnosis, without the possible confounding effect of dopaminergic medication. Although no differentially abundant taxon could be replicated in both cohorts, multiple short chain fatty acids (SCFA) producing taxa were decreased in PD in both cohorts. In particular, several taxa belonging to the family Lachnospiraceae were decreased in abundance. Micrographia is a common symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD), and it may precede other motor symptoms. Despite the high prevalence of micrographia in PD, its neurobiological mechanisms are not known. Given that levodopa may alleviate consistent micrographia and that nondopaminergic essential tremor (ET) is not associated with micrographia, micrographia could possibly be used as an ancillary diagnostic method that reflects nigrostriatal dopamine function. We evaluated the usefulness of micrographia as a simple one-sentence writing test in differentiating PD from ET. A total of 146 PD patients, 42 ET patients and 38 healthy controls provided writing samples and were scanned with brain [ 123 I]FP-CIT dopamine transporter (DAT) SPECT imaging with ROI-based and voxelwise analyses. The diagnostic accuracy of micrographia was evaluated and compared to that of DAT binding. Compared to ET and healthy controls, PD patients showed micrographia (consistent, 25.6% smaller area of handwriting sample in PD compared to ET, p = 0.002, and 27.2% smaller area of handwriting compared to healthy controls, p = 0.004). PD patients showed 133% more severe progressive micrographia compared with ET patients (median b =  - 0.14 in PD, b =  - 0.06 in ET, p = 0.021). In early unmedicated cognitively normal patients, consistent micrographia showed 71.2% specificity and 87.5% sensitivity in PD versus ET differentiation, but micrographia had no correlation with striatal or extrastriatal [ 123 I]FP-CIT binding in patients with PD. The one-sentence micrographia test shows moderately good accuracy in PD versus ET differentiation. Background: The neurophysiological correlates of gastrointestinal symptoms (GISs) in Parkinson's disease (PD) are not well understood. It has been proposed that in patients with a gastrointestinal origin of PD dopaminergic neurodegeneration would be more symmetric., Objectives: The aim is to assess the associations between GISs and asymmetry of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurodegeneration in PD., Methods: Ninety PD patients were assessed using motor and GIS scales and 123 I-FP-CIT SPECT. We calculated the asymmetry index and the predominant side of motor symptoms and dopamine transporter (DAT) imaging defect and assessed their association with GISs., Results: There were no significant differences in GISs between symmetric and asymmetric dopaminergic defect. Left predominant defect was related to more GIS and higher constipation scores., Conclusions: GISs were associated with left predominant reduction in putaminal DAT binding but not asymmetry per se. It remains open whether left-sided DAT deficit is related to more pronounced GI involvement or symptom perception in PD. © 2022 The Authors. Glabellar tap or reflex (GR) is an old bedside clinical test used in the diagnostics of Parkinson's disease (PD), but its diagnostic value is unclear. This study examines the diagnostic validity and reliability of GR in PD in relation to brain dopaminergic activity. GR was performed on 161 patients with PD, 47 patients with essential tremor (ET) and 40 healthy controls immediately prior to dopamine transporter (DAT) [ 123 I]FP-CIT SPECT scanning. The binding ratios were investigated with consideration of the GR result (normal/abnormal). In addition, the consistency of the GR was investigated with 89 patients after a mean follow-up of 2.2 years. PD and ET patients had higher GR scores than healthy controls (p < 0.001), but there was no difference in GR between PD and ET patients (p = 0.09). There were no differences in the ratio of abnormal to normal GRs between the PD and ET groups (73% vs. 64% abnormal, respectively, p = 0.13) or in DAT binding between PD patients with abnormal and normal GRs (p > 0.36). Over follow-up, the GR changed from abnormal to normal in 20% of PD patients despite the presence of clinically typical disease. The sensitivity and specificity of GR for differentiating PD from ET were 78.3% and 36.2%, respectively. Although GR has been used by clinicians in the diagnostics of PD, it does not separate PD from ET. It also shows considerable inconsistency over time, and abnormal GR has no relationship with dopamine loss. Its usefulness should be tested for other clinical diagnostic purposes., (© 2021. Background: Increasing evidence shows obesity and poor metabolic health are associated with cognitive deficits, but the mechanistic connections have yet to be resolved. We studied rats selectively bred for low and high intrinsic aerobic capacity in order to test the association between low physical fitness, a genetic predisposition for obesity, and brain health. We hypothesized that low-capacity runner (LCR) rats with concurrently greater levels of adiposity would have increased hippocampal inflammation and reduced plasticity compared to the more physically fit high-capacity runner (HCR) rats., Methods: We examined markers for inflammation and brain plasticity in the hippocampi of LCR rats and compared them to HCR rats. The effect of age was determined by studying the rats at a young age (8 weeks) and later in life (40 weeks). We used western blots and immunohistochemistry to quantify the expression of target proteins., Results: Our study showed that the number of adult-born new neurons in the hippocampus was significantly lower in LCR rats than it was in HCR rats already at a young age and that the difference became more pronounced with age. The expression of synaptic proteins was higher in young animals relative to older ones. Brain inflammation tended to be higher in LCR rats than it was in the HCR rats, and more prominent in older rats than in young ones., Conclusion: Our study is the first to demonstrate that low intrinsic aerobic fitness that is associated with obesity and poor metabolic health is also linked with reduced hippocampal structural plasticity at a young age. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a known risk factor for cognitive decline. Using polygenic rat models selectively bred for high and low intrinsic exercise capacity and simultaneously modelling as low and high innate risk factor for MetS respectively, we have previously shown that adult animals with lower exercise capacity/higher MetS risk perform poorly in tasks requiring flexible cognition. However, it is not known whether these deficits in cognition are present already at young age. Also, it is unclear whether the high risk genome is related also to lower-level cognition, such as sensory gating measured as prepulse inhibition. In this study, young and adult (5-8 weeks and ~9 months) rats selectively bred for 36 generations as High-Capacity Runners (HCR) or Low-Capacity Runners (LCR) were tested for behavior in an open field task, modulation of startle reflex, and spatial learning in a T-maze. HCR rats were more active in the open field than LCR rats independent of age. Responses to the startle stimulus habituated to the same extent in LCR compared to HCR rats when young, but as adults, stronger habituation was seen in the HCR animals. The prepulse inhibition of startle response was equally strong in young HCR and LCR animals but the effect was shorter lasting in HCR animals. In T-maze, adult HCR animals unexpectedly showed attenuated learning, but we interpret this finding to stem from differences in motivation rather than learning ability. We have shown that prebiotic xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) increased beneficial gut microbiota (GM) and prevented high fat diet-induced hepatic steatosis, but the mechanisms associated with these effects are not clear. We studied whether XOS affects adipose tissue inflammation and insulin signaling, and whether the GM and fecal metabolome explain associated patterns. XOS was supplemented or not with high (HFD) or low (LFD) fat diet for 12 weeks in male Wistar rats ( n = 10/group). Previously analyzed GM and fecal metabolites were biclustered to reduce data dimensionality and identify interpretable groups of co-occurring genera and metabolites. Based on our findings, biclustering provides a useful algorithmic method for capturing such joint signatures. On the HFD, XOS-supplemented rats showed lower number of adipose tissue crown-like structures, increased phosphorylation of AKT in liver and adipose tissue as well as lower expression of hepatic miRNAs. XOS-supplemented rats had more fecal glycine and less hypoxanthine, isovalerate, branched chain amino acids and aromatic amino acids. Several bacterial genera were associated with the metabolic signatures. In conclusion, the beneficial effects of XOS on hepatic steatosis involved decreased adipose tissue inflammation and likely improved insulin signaling, which were further associated with fecal metabolites and GM.

Treatment of brain cancer, glioma, can cause cognitive impairment as a side-effect, possibly because it disrupts the integrity of the hippocampus, a structure vital for normal memory. Radiotherapy is commonly used to treat glioma, but the effects of irradiation on the brain are still poorly understood, and other biological effects have not been extensively studied. Here, we exposed healthy adult male rats to moderate-dose irradiation of the head. We found no effect of irradiation on systemic inflammation, weight gain or gut microbiota diversity, although it increased the abundance of Bacteroidaceae family, namely Bacteroides genus in the gut microbiota. Irradiation had no effect on long-term potentiation in the CA3-CA1 synapse or endogenous hippocampal electrophysiology, but it did reduce adult hippocampal neurogenesis and impaired short-term spatial recognition memory. However, no overall cognitive impairment was observed. To summarize, our results suggest that in adult male rats head irradiation does not compromise health or cognition overall even though the number of new, adult-born hippocampal neurons is decreased. Thus, the sole effects of head irradiation on the body, brain and cognition might be less harmful than previously thought, and the cognitive decline experienced by cancer patients might originate from physiological and mental effects of the disease itself. Objective: To evaluate possible differences between brain dopamine transporter (DAT) binding in a group of symptomatic parkinsonism patients without dopaminergic degeneration and healthy individuals., Background: Dopaminergic neuroimaging studies of Parkinson's disease (PD) have often used control groups formed from symptomatic patients with apparently normal striatal dopamine function. We sought to investigate whether symptomatic patients can be used to represent dopaminergically normal healthy controls., Methods: Forty healthy elderly individuals were scanned with DAT [ 123 I]FP-CIT SPECT and compared to 69 age- and sex-matched symptomatic patients with nondegenerative conditions (including essential tremor, drug-induced parkinsonism and vascular parkinsonism). An automated region-of-interest based analysis of the caudate nucleus and the anterior/posterior putamen was performed. Specific binding ratios (SBR = [ROI-occ]/occ) were compared between the groups., Results: DAT binding in symptomatic patients was 8.6% higher in the posterior putamen than in healthy controls (p = 0.03). Binding correlated negatively with age in both groups but not with motor symptom severity, cognitive function or depression ratings., Conclusions: Putaminal DAT binding, as measured with [ 123 I]FP-CIT SPECT, was higher in symptomatic controls than in healthy individuals. The reason for the difference is unclear but can include selection bias when DAT binding is used to aid clinical diagnosis and possible self-selection bias in healthy volunteerism. Understanding the importance of the gut microbiota (GM) in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has raised the hope for therapeutic microbes. We have shown that high hepatic fat content associated with low abundance of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii in humans and, further, the administration of F. prausnitzii prevented NAFLD in mice. Here, we aimed at targeting F. prausnitzii by prebiotic xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) to treat NAFLD. First, the effect of XOS on F. prausnitzii growth was assessed in vitro. Then, XOS was supplemented or not with high (HFD, 60% of energy from fat) or low (LFD) fat diet for 12 weeks in Wistar rats ( n = 10/group). XOS increased F. prausnitzii growth, having only a minor impact on the GM composition. When supplemented with HFD, XOS ameliorated hepatic steatosis. The underlying mechanisms involved enhanced hepatic β-oxidation and mitochondrial respiration. Nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-NMR) analysis of cecal metabolites showed that, compared to the HFD, the LFD group had a healthier cecal short-chain fatty acid profile and on the HFD, XOS reduced cecal isovalerate and tyrosine, metabolites previously linked to NAFLD. Cecal branched-chain fatty acids associated positively and butyrate negatively with hepatic triglycerides. In conclusion, XOS supplementation can ameliorate NAFLD by improving hepatic oxidative metabolism and affecting GM.

Background: Non-motor symptoms (NMSs) are clearly more prevalent in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients compared to healthy individuals. However, NMSs are also common in the elderly and other neurological conditions, and thus, it is not known whether NMSs could be used to differentiate PD from parkinsonism/tremor without dopamine deficiency., Methods: We prospectively evaluated NMSs immediately before brain dopamine transporter (DAT) [ 123 I]FP-CIT SPECT scanning in 193 patients with unclear parkinsonism/tremor. According to the clinical follow-up and imaging results, 84 patients had PD. NMSs and their correlations with striatal DAT binding were investigated in PD patients and in parkinsonism/tremor patients with normal dopamine function., Results: Total NMS burden, anxiety or depression did not differ between PD patients and patients with normal DAT binding. DAT-normal patients reported more perception-related (p = 0.045) and attention/memory-related NMSs than PD patients (p < 0.001). Total NMS score did not correlate with striatal DAT binding in either group., Conclusions: In clinically uncertain cases, the total NMS burden cannot be used as a tool in distinguishing PD patients from patients with non-dopaminergic parkinsonism/tremor. Introduction: Total parkinsonian motor symptom severity correlates with presynaptic striatal dopamine function in patients with Parkinson's disease. There is a lack of studies that have investigated the associations between parkinsonian motor signs and striatal dopaminergic deficiency in patients with parkinsonism of an unknown origin. Identification of specific motor signs associated with the highest likelihood of striatal dopamine deficiency could aid the differential diagnostics of parkinsonian and tremor syndromes., Methods: In this cross-sectional clinical and imaging study, detailed motor examinations were performed for 221 patients with parkinsonism or tremor of an unknown origin immediately before dopamine transporter (DAT) [I-123]FP-CIT SPECT imaging. Region-of-interest and voxel-based methods were used to investigate striatal DAT deficiency in relation to individual motor signs., Results: Upper extremity rigidity and facial expression were the only motor signs that differentiated patients with normal and abnormal striatal DAT function. The presence of any upper extremity rigidity showed the highest likelihood of DAT deficiency (OR 4.79, 95% CI 1.56-14.75, P = 0.006) followed by reduced facial expression (OR 2.14, 95% CI 1.14-4.00, P = 0.018). In patients with DAT deficits, reduced facial expression was associated with DAT deficiency specifically in the caudate nucleus, and increased upper extremity rigidity was associated with DAT loss in the dorsal putamen (FWE-corrected P < 0.05)., Conclusions: Increased upper extremity muscle tone and hypomimia are independently associated with a higher likelihood of striatal hypodopaminergic imaging finding. This information can be used as a factor when the clinical need of auxiliary investigations, such as DAT SPECT, is considered for patients with parkinsonism.

Objective: To investigate whether dopamine transporter (DAT) binding, as measured with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), can be used to predict mortality in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD)., Methods: A total of 162 patients with PD and abnormal [I-123]FP-CIT SPECT were clinically followed for a median of 5.8 years. A multivariate Cox regression model was used to investigate survival with the independent predictors of age, gender, severity of motor impairment, levodopa-equivalent daily dose of medication, presence of cognitive defects, and putaminal specific binding ratio (SBR) of [I-123]FP-CIT. In addition, associations between striatal and extrastriatal SBRs and survival were investigated using voxel-based analyses., Results: The overall mortality was 25.9%, and the Kaplan-Meier estimate for mortality was 36%. Older age (P < 0.001), presence of cognitive defects (P = 0.001), and more severe motor symptom severity (P = 0.002) were significantly associated with increased mortality. No associations were found between putaminal DAT binding and survival (P = 0.99). There were no significant differences in SBRs in any striatal or extrastriatal region between survivors and non-survivors, and no associations were found between SBRs and scan-to-death intervals among non-survivors., Conclusions: Unlike the severity of motor and cognitive symptoms, the level of striatal dopaminergic defect in DAT SPECT does not predict mortality in PD. The clinical evaluation of dopamine transporter (DAT) SPECT scans typically relies on visual analysis in combination with an automated semi-quantitative method. The interpretation of the results may be difficult in cases that show disagreement between the two methods on the borderline of abnormality. The frequency and clinical characteristics of such cases are unclear. Automated semi-quantitative analyses and independent visual analyses by two experienced nuclear medicine physicians and four inexperienced raters were performed for 120 patients with clinically uncertain parkinsonism scanned with brain [I-123]FP-CIT SPECT. Agreement was evaluated with kappa statistics. The clinical characteristics of patients who had discrepant findings between the two analysis methods were investigated. The expert raters outperformed nonexperts in terms of agreement between visual and automated analyses (κ = 0.66, 0.72 vs. 0.23-0.54) and between raters (κ = 0.81 vs. 0.44-0.63). Twelve patients showed discrepant findings between the visual and automated analyses. These patients were older compared to other patients (p = 0.023), had 17.6 % lower mean striatal tracer binding compared to normal scans (p = 0.003) and 62.7 % higher compared to abnormal scans (p < 0.001). After a minimum of 4.5 years of clinical follow-up, none of these patients developed neurodegenerative parkinsonism. Clinical DAT SPECT scans show discrepancies between visual and automated analyses in 10 % of cases. The patients with discrepant findings are older, show normal to slightly abnormal tracer binding, and importantly, do not develop neurodegenerative parkinsonism syndromes. Visual analyses by experienced raters are reliable, but the diagnostic accuracy in discrepant cases can be improved by an automated method.

Background: Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in subjects with craniofacial fractures are usually diagnosed by emergency room physicians. We investigated how often TBI remains unrecorded in these subjects, and whether diagnostic accuracy has improved after the implementation of new TBI guidelines., Methods: All subjects with craniofacial fractures admitted to Oulu University Hospital in 1999 and in 2007 were retrospectively identified. New guidelines for improving the diagnostic accuracy of TBI were implemented between 2000 and 2006. Clinical symptoms of TBI were gathered from notes on hospital charts and compared to the recorded diagnoses at discharge. Logistic regression was used to identify independent predictors for TBI to remain unrecorded., Results: Of 194 subjects with craniofacial fracture, 111(57%) had TBI, 40 in 1999 and 71 in 2007. Fifty-one TBIs (46%) remained unrecorded at discharge, 48 being mild and 3 moderate-to-severe. Subjects with unrecorded TBI were significantly less frequently referred to follow-up visits. Failures to record the TBI diagnosis were less frequent (29/71, 41%) in 2007 than in 1999 (22/40, 55%), but the difference was not statistically significant. The most significant independent predictor for this failure was the clinical specialty (other than neurology/neurosurgery) of the examining physician (p<0.001). The subject's alcohol intoxication did not hamper the diagnosis of TBI., Conclusions: TBIs remain frequently unrecorded in subjects with craniofacial fractures.
