Dynamic responsive structural colored materials have drawn increased consideration in a wide range of applications, such as colorimetric sensors and high-safety tags. However, the sophisticated interactions among the individual responsive parts restrict the advanced design of multimodal responsive photonic materials. Inspired by stimuli-responsive color change in chameleon skin, a simple and effective photo-crosslinking strategy is proposed to construct hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) based hydrogels with multiple responsive structured colors. By controlling UV exposure time, the structural color of HPC hydrogels can be effectively controlled in a full-color spectrum. At the same time, HPC hydrogels showcase temperature and mechanical dual-responsive structural colors. In particular, the microstructure of HPC hydrogels undergoes a transition from the chiral nematic phase to the nematic phase under the action of external stretching, leading to a significant reflection of circularly polarized light (CPL) to linearly polarized light (LPL). Given the diverse responsiveness exhibited by HPC hydrogels and their unique structural transition properties under external forces, we have explored their potential applications as dynamic anti-counterfeiting labels and optical skins. This work reveals the great possibility of using structural colored cellulose hydrogels in multi-sensing and optical displays, opening up a new path for the exploration of next-generation flexible photonic devices.

Approaches that add value to biomass through the use of photoreforming reactions offer great opportunities for the efficient use of renewable resources. Here, we constructed a novel zinc cadmium sulphide/molybdenum dioxide-molybdenum carbide-carbon (Zn x Cd 1-x S-y/MoO 2 -Mo 2 C-C) heterojunction which was applied to photoreforming of biomass-based monosaccharides for hydrogen and lactic acid production. Bandgap engineering effectively modulated the redox capacity of Zn x Cd 1-x S-y and exposed more (101) crystalline surfaces, which improved the lactic acid selectivity. The MoO 2 -Mo 2 C-C (MC) co-catalysts had unique microstructures that increased the light absorption range and the number of active sites of Zn x Cd 1-x S-y. These features effectively promoted the separation and migration of photogenerated carriers, which in turn enhanced the photoreforming activity. The optimised Zn 0.4 Cd 0.6 S-0/MC composites exhibited superior photocatalytic activity with a hydrogen yield of 12.2 mmol/g/h. Conversion of biomass-based monosaccharides was approximately 100 %, where xylose had the greatest lactic acid selectivity (64.1 %). Active species, including h + , ⋅O 2 - , ⋅OH, and 1 O 2 , all favoured lactic acid production, where ⋅O 2 - played a major role in the conversion. Objective: Previous studies have indicated a link between screen exposure and children's mental health, but with the emergence of new screen media and a rise in screen content, uncertainties have grown. Our aim was to investigate the impact of screen use on psychological issues in 2- to 3-year-old children, considering screen time and types of screen media and content., Methods: This cross-sectional study included participants from Shanghai, China, from February to July 2023. Screen use information was collected from children's caregivers via online questionnaire. Psychological difficulties of children were reported by parents using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)., Results: Among the interviewed children, 15.9% had an average daily screen time exceeding 1 hour (h). 52.1% of them viewed inappropriate, non-child-directed screen content, 37.6% were mainly exposed to educational content, and 18.9% watched more fast-paced screen content than slow-paced content. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that the use of mobile phones ( β  = 1.16, 95% CI: 0.14, 2.18), virtual reality (VR) devices ( β  = 2.57, 95% CI: 0.62, 4.53) and computers for more than 30 minutes (min) per day ( β  = 2.15, 95% CI: 0.99, 3.30) were related to higher SDQ difficulty scores. This study introduces an innovative, environmentally friendly method for controlling the morphology, size, spatial structure and activity of three-dimensional hybrid layered porous carbon (HLPC). The hydrothermal reaction is carried out in a microreactor through a synergistic interaction between triblock copolymer (F127) and ammonium molybdate phosphate (APMo). Carboxymethyl cellulose undergoes acid-catalyzed hydrolysis and self-assembles into HLPC at the interface between the microreactor and the solution. The structural integrities and dimensional attributes of HLPC are modulated by adjusting the hydrothermal time to allow for swelling, tearing or further development. The addition of varying amounts of APMo allows customization of HLPC's spatial structures, such as layered, curled or folded configurations. HLPC demonstrates efficient ion storage and transmission channels, a hydrophilic surface, high reactivity and robust electrochemical performance. When tested in a 6 mol·L -1 KOH electrolyte, HLPC achieved a specific capacitance of 318 F·g -1 at a current density of 0.5 A·g -1 and maintained a retention of 96 % after 10,000 charging/discharging cycles at 10 A·g -1 . To extend the photo-response range and quantum efficiency of titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), it was sensitized with lignin-derived red-emitting carbon dots (RCDs). The RCDs consisted of a base lignin structure and many types of functional groups (e.g., CO, -NH 2 , -OSO 3 H, -NR 2 , and -OH). The optimal emission wavelength of the RCDs was 628 nm, with a fluorescence lifetime of 8.56 ns. The TiO 2 photocatalyst particles were sensitized by RCDs, which narrowed the band gap of TiO 2 and increased the efficiency of carrier photogeneration. The RCDs/TiO 2 possessed a double band-gap structure with the band-gap energies of 1.60 and 3.13 eV. The photocurrent response of RCDs/TiO 2 under simulated solar irradiation were 1.2 to 4.5 μA·cm -2 . The sensitization of TiO 2 by RCDs facilitated the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs)-based stimuli responsive photonic materials demonstrate great application potential in mechanical and chemical sensors. However, due to the hydrophilic property of cellulose molecular, a significant challenge is to build a water-resistant photonic CNCs material. Here, inspired by butterfly wings with vivid structural color and superhydrophobic property, we have designed a CNCs based superhydrophobic iridescent film with hierarchical structures. The iridescent colored layer is ascribed to the chiral nematic alignment of CNCs, the superhydrophobic layer is ascribed to the micro-nano structures of polymer microspheres. Specially, superhydrophobic iridescent CNCs film could be used as an efficient colorimetric humidity sensor due to the existence of 'stomates' on superhydrophobic layer, which allowed the humid gas to enter into and out from the humidity responsive chiral nematic layers. Meanwhile, superhydrophobic iridescent films show out-standing self-cleaning and anti-fouling performance. Moreover, when the one side of the CNCs film was covered with superhydrophobic layer, the Janus film displays asymmetric expansion and bending behaviors as well as responsive structural colors in hydrous ethanol. Taro ( Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott) is a tropical tuber crop whose underground corms are used as an important staple food. However, due to a lack of molecular markers, the genetic diversity, germplasm identification, and molecular breeding of taro are greatly limited. In this study, high-density InDel-SSR molecular markers covering the whole genome were developed based on the resequencing data of taro core germplasm. A total of 1,805,634 InDel-SSR loci were identified, and 219 highly polymorphic markers with an average polymorphism information content PIC value of 0.428 were screened. Furthermore, a genetic diversity analysis of 121 taro germplasm resources was conducted based on 219 markers, dividing the resources into three groups. In addition, an association analysis showed that, of the multiple InDel-SSR markers, g13.52 and g12.82 were significantly associated with leaf area and average cormel weight, respectively; the candidate genes CeARF17 ( EVM0014444 ) and CeGA20ox ( EVM0001890 ) were related to cormel expansion; and we excavated the candidate genes CeXXT2 ( EVM0016820 ) and CeLOG1 ( EVM0017064 ), which regulate leaf development. The InDel-SSRs and candidate genes identified in this study are expected to provide important support for genetically improving and breeding new varieties of taro.

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can specifically recognize template molecules in solution with imprinted cavities. Due to their capacity for scalable production, they can be used to isolate target products from natural products for industrial production in the fields of pharmaceuticals and food. In this study, magnetic single-template molecularly imprinted polymers (St-MIPs) instead of magnetic multi-template molecularly imprinted polymers (Mt-MIPs) were prepared by surface imprinting using Schizandrol A as a template molecule and deep eutectic solvent (DES) as a functional monomer, combined with solid-phase extraction (SPE) for the adsorption and separation of Schizandrol A, Schisantherin A, Schizandrin A, and Schizandrin B from Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill. ( S. chinensis ) fruits extracts. The synthesized MIPs were characterized by FT-IR, TEM, SEM, TG, XRD and VSM, and their adsorption properties were also evaluated. MIPs can specifically recognize the template molecules with high reusability. The purity of the total S. chinensis lignans after SPE was 74.05%, among which that of Schizandrol A, Schisantherin A, Schizandrin A, and Schizandrin B was 33.38%, 8.69%, 16.33% and 15.67%, respectively. Moreover, the one-step synthesis of carrier was easy to operate. And St-MIPs reduced the production cost compared with Mt-MIPs. This study provides a new idea for natural product separation by molecular imprinting technology (MIT).

Advanced glycation end products (AGE), a diverse array of molecules generated through non-enzymatic glycosylation, in conjunction with the receptor of advanced glycation end products (RAGE), play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of diabetes and its associated complications. Recent studies have revealed that the AGE-RAGE axis potentially accelerated the progression of cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure, atherosclerosis, myocarditis, pulmonary hypertension, hypertension, arrhythmia, and other related conditions. The AGE-RAGE axis is intricately involved in the initiation and progression of cardiovascular diseases, independently of its engagement in diabetes. The mechanisms include oxidative stress, inflammation, alterations in autophagy flux, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Conversely, inhibition of AGE production, disruption of the binding between RAGE and its ligands, or silencing of RAGE expression could effectively impair the function of AGE-RAGE axis, thereby delaying or ameliorating the aforementioned diseases. AGE and the soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products (sRAGE) have the potential to be novel predictors of cardiovascular diseases. In this review, we provide an in-depth overview towards the biosynthetic pathway of AGE and elucidate the pathophysiological implications in various cardiovascular diseases. Taro is a tuber crop that is used for nutritional and medicinal purposes due to its abundance of non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs). Red Sprout taro is a local variety in Southern China, but the characteristics and bioactivities of its NSPs are currently unknown. In this study, NSPs were isolated from the corms of Red Sprout taro using hot-water extraction, ion-exchange chromatography, and ethanol precipitation; their molecular weight, monosaccharide composition, structural formulae, and immunomodulatory effects were examined. A novel NSP named Colocasia esculenta polysaccharide 1 (CEP1) was purified and characterized and was shown to mainly consist of glucose (60.49%) and galactose (25.92%) and have a molecular weight of 4556.272 kDa. The backbone of CEP1 consisted primarily of →4)-α-D-Glcp-(1→, →4,6)-β-D-Galp-(1→, and →3)-β-D-Galp-(1→ residues, with a branch consisting of the β-D-Glcp-(1→ residue. In addition, 25-400 µg/mL CEP1 was shown to have immunomodulatory effects on RAW264.7 macrophages. CEP1 not only increased cell viability, phagocytic capacity, inducible nitric oxide synthase secretion, and nitric oxide generation in RAW264.7 cells, but it also activated M1 and M2 macrophages to generate tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin 6, transforming growth factor β, and interleukin 10. These findings could lead to the use of CEP1 from Red Sprout taro as a possible immunomodulatory polysaccharide in functional foods.

This study investigated the impact of processing temperatures (190 °C, 210 °C, and 230 °C) and durations (7 min, 10 min, and 14 min) on the formation of Maillard reaction products (MRPs) and antioxidant activities in pan baked buns. Key Maillard reaction indicators, including glyoxal (GO), methylglyoxal (MGO), 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), melanoidins, and fluorescent advanced glycation end products (AGEs) were quantified. The results demonstrated significant increases in GO, MGO, 5-HMF contents (p < 0.05), and antioxidant activities (p < 0.05) when the buns were baked at 210 °C for 14 min, 230 °C for 10 min and 14 min. However, the interior MRPs of baked buns were minimally affected by the baking temperature and duration. Prolonged heating temperatures and durations exacerbated MRPs production (43.8 %-1038 %) in the bottom crust. Nonetheless, this process promoted the release of bound phenolic compounds and enhanced the antioxidant activity. Heating induces the thermal degradation of macromolecules in food, such as proteins and polysaccharides, which releases bound phenolic compounds by disrupting their chemical bonds within the food matrix. Appropriate selections of baking parameters can effectively reduce the formation of MRPs while simultaneously improve sensory quality and health benefit of the pan baked buns. Considering the balance between higher antioxidant properties and lower MRPs, the optimal thermal parameters for pan baked buns were 210 °C for 10 min. Furthermore, a normalized analysis revealed a consistent trend for GO, MGO, 5-HMF, fluorescent AGEs, and melanoidins. Moreover, MRPs were positively correlated with total contents of phenolic compounds, ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and color, but negatively correlated with moisture contents and reducing sugars. Additionally, the interaction between baking conditions and Maillard reactions probably contributed to enhanced primary flavors in the final product. Researchers and policymakers aspire for educational interventions to change children's long-run developmental trajectories. However, intervention impacts on cognitive and achievement measures commonly fade over time. Less is known, although much is theorized, about social-emotional skill persistence. The current meta-analysis investigated whether intervention impacts on social-emotional skills demonstrated greater persistence than impacts on cognitive skills. We drew studies from eight preexisting meta-analyses, generating a sample of 86 educational randomized controlled trials targeting children from infancy through adolescence, together involving 56,662 participants and 450 outcomes measured at posttest and at least one follow-up. Relying on a metaregression approach for modeling persistence rates, we tested the extent to which posttest impact magnitudes predicted follow-up impact magnitudes. We found that posttest impacts were equally predictive of follow-up impacts for cognitive and social-emotional skills at 6- to 12-month follow-up, indicating similar conditional persistence rates across skill types. At 1- to 2-year follow-up, rates were lower, and, if anything, cognitive skills showed greater conditional persistence than social-emotional skills. A small positive follow-up effect was observed, on average, beyond what was directly predicted by the posttest impact, indicating that interventions may have long-term effects that are not fully mediated by posttest effects. This pattern of results implied that smaller posttest impacts produced more persistent effects than larger posttest impacts, and social-emotional skill impacts were smaller, on average, than cognitive skill impacts. Considered as a whole, intervention impacts on both social-emotional and cognitive skills demonstrated fadeout, especially for interventions that produced larger initial effects. Aqueous Mn-ion batteries (MIBs) exhibit a promising development potential due to their cost-effectiveness, high safety, and potential for high energy density. However, the development of MIBs is hindered by the lack of electrode materials capable of storing Mn 2+ ions due to acidic manganese salt electrolytes and large ion radius. Herein, the tunnel-type structure of monoclinic VO 2 nanorods to effectively store Mn 2+ ions via a reversible (de)insertion chemistry for the first time is reported. Utilizing exhaustive in situ/ex situ multi-scale characterization techniques and theoretical calculations, the co-insertion process of Mn 2+ /proton is revealed, elucidating the capacity decay mechanism wherein high proton activity leads to irreversible dissolution loss of vanadium species. Further, the Grotthuss transfer mechanism of protons is broken via a hydrogen bond reconstruction strategy while achieving the modulation of the electric double-layer structure, which effectively suppresses the electrode interface proton activity. Consequently, the VO 2 demonstrates excellent electrochemical performance at both ambient temperatures and -20 °C, especially maintaining a high capacity of 162 mAh g -1 at 5 A g -1 after a record-breaking 20 000 cycles. Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder. Drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) accounts for about one-third of epilepsy patients worldwide. Peimine, a main active component of Fritillaria, has been reported to show anti-inflammatory effects. However, its potential therapeutic role in DRE is not yet fully understood. In this work, a DRE rat model was established by injecting 1 μg kainic acid (KA), followed by a 250 mg/kg administration of valproic acid (VPA) from day 4-31. Rats were treated with different doses of peimine (2.5 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg) daily from day 32-62. In vitro , BV-2 microglia were exposed to different doses of peimine (7.5 μg/ml, 15 μg/ml, and 30 μg/ml) in presence of LPS. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential therapeutic effects of peimine on DRE. The results showed that peimine efficiently suppressed the KA-induced epileptic behaviors of rats in a dose-dependent manner, as recorded by electroencephalography. Furthermore, peimine ameliorated hippocampal neuron injury in DRE rats, and promoted an M1-to-M2 microglial phenotype shift in a dose-dependent manner. Mechanistically, peimine inhibited the TLR4/NF-κB/HIF-1α signaling pathway both in vivo and in vitro . Additionally, peimine suppressed the apoptosis of primary neurons induced by LPS-treated microglia. Corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19) is one of the most serious respiratory pandemic diseases threatening human health for centuries. Alopecia areata (AA) is a sudden patchy hair loss, an autoimmune disease, which seriously affects the image and mental health of patients. Evidence shows that the risk of autoimmune diseases significantly increases after COVID-19, and is positively correlated with the severity, with a significant increase in the risk of alopecia in those over 40 years old. The relationship between COVID-19 and AA has become a hot topic of current research. Strengthening the research on the correlation between COVID-19 and AA can help to identify and protect susceptible populations at an early stage. Low temperatures pose a common challenge in the production of cucumbers and tomatoes, hindering plant growth and, in severe cases, leading to plant death. In our investigation, we observed a substantial improvement in the growth of cucumber and tomato seedlings through the application of corn steep liquor (CSL), myo-inositol (MI), and their combinations. When subjected to low-temperature stress, these treatments resulted in heightened levels of photosynthetic pigments, thereby fostering enhanced photosynthesis in both tomato and cucumber plants. Furthermore, it contributed to a decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and electrolyte leakage (REP). The effectiveness of the treatment was further validated through the analysis of key gene expressions (CBF1, COR, MIOX4, and MIPS1) in cucumber. Particularly, noteworthy positive outcomes were noted in the treatment involving 0.6 mL L -1 CSL combined with 72 mg L -1 MI. Background: It is vital to accurately and promptly distinguish unstable from stable intracranial aneurysms (IAs) to facilitate treatment optimization and avoid unnecessary treatment. The aim of this study is to develop a simple and effective predictive model for the clinical evaluation of the stability of IAs., Methods: In total, 1,053 patients with 1,239 IAs were randomly divided the dataset into training (70%) and internal validation (30%) datasets. One hundred and ninety seven patients with 229 IAs from another hospital were evaluated as an external validation dataset. The prediction models were developed using machine learning based on clinical information, manual parameters, and radiomic features. In addition, a simple model for predicting the stability of IAs was developed, and a nomogram was drawn for clinical use., Results: Fourteen machine learning models exhibited excellent classification performance. Logistic regression Model E (clinical information, manual parameters, and radiomic shape features) had the highest AUC of 0.963 (95% CI 0.943-0.980). Compared to manual parameters, radiomic features did not significantly improve the identification of unstable IAs. In the external validation dataset, the simplified model demonstrated excellent performance (AUC = 0.950) using only five manual parameters., Conclusion: Machine learning models have excellent potential in the classification of unstable IAs. Background: The rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is essential for controlling tuberculosis. Methods We designed a portable thermocycler-based real-time fluorescence loop-mediated isothermal amplification assay (cyp141-RealAmp) using six oligonucleotide primers derived from cyp141 to detect MTB. A combined number of 213 sputum samples (169 obtained from clinically diagnosed cases of pulmonary TB and 44 from a control group without tuberculosis) underwent Acid-fast bacillus (AFB) smear, culture, Xpert MTB/RIF assays, and cyp141-RealAmp assay., Results: By targeting MTB cyp141, this technique could detect as low as 10 copies/reaction within 30 min, and it was successfully rejected by other mycobacteria and other bacterial species tested. Of the 169 patients, there was no statistical difference between the detection rate of cyp141-RealAmp (92.90%, 95% CI: 89.03-96.07) and that of Xpert MTB/RIF (94.67%, 95% CI: 91.28-98.06) ( P > 0.05), but both were statistically higher than that of culture (65.68%, 95% CI: 58.52-72.84) ( P < 0.05) and AFB (57.40%, 95% CI: 49.94-64.86) ( P < 0.05). Adhesive materials have played an essential role in the history of humanity. Natural adhesives composed of low-molecular-weight monomers have been overshadowed by modern petroleum-based glues. With the development of green economy, the demand for eco-friendly materials has increased. Herein, two natural biocompatible compounds, namely thioctic acid (TA) and malic acid (MA), are selected to prepare a high-performance pressure-sensitive adhesive poly[TA-MA]. This adhesive can be quantitatively obtained via a simple mixing and heating process. Poly[TA-MA] shows interesting and useful properties, including reversible flexibility, high elongation, and good self-healing, owing to its dynamic polymerization pattern and reversible cross-linking behavior. Poly[TA-MA] exhibits excellent adhesion performance under various extreme conditions, such as at low temperatures and in hot water. High values of shear strength (3.86 MPa), peel strength (7.90 N cm -1 ), loop tack (10.60 N cm -1 ), tensile strength (1.02 MPa), and shear resistance (1628 h) demonstrate the strong adhesive effect of poly[TA-MA]. Additionally, TA can be regenerated in the monomer forms from poly[TA-MA] with high recovery rate (>90%). Meanwhile, strong anti-bacterial behavior of poly[TA-MA] is recorded. In this work, magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for specific recognition of Hydroxytyrosol (HT) were designed by vinyl-modified magnetic particles (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @VTEOs) as carrier, ternary deep eutectic solvent (DES) as functional monomer, while ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as crosslinker. The optimum amount of DES was obtained by adsorption experiments (molar ratio, caffeic acid: choline chloride: formic acid = 1:6:3) which were 140 μL in total. Under the optimized amount of DES, the maximum adsorption capacity of the MIPs particles was 42.43 mg g -1 , which was superior to non-imprinted polymer (4.64 mg g -1 ) and the imprinting factor (IF) is 9.10. Syringin and Oleuropicrin were used as two reference molecules to test the selectivity of the DES-MIPs particles. The adsorption capacity of HT was 40.11 mg g -1 . Precise morphology design and electronic structure regulation are critically significant to promote catalytic activity and stability for electrochemical hydrogen production at high current density. Herein, the carbon nanotube (CNT) encapsulated Fe-doped NiCoP nanoparticles is in-situ grown in hierarchical carbonized wood (NCF 0.5 P@CNT/CW) for water splitting. Coupling merits of porous carbonized wood (CW) substrate, CNT encapsulating and Fe doping, the NCF 0.5 P@CNT/CW features remarkable and durable electrocatalytic activity. The overpotentials of NCF 0.5 P@CNT/CW at 50 mA cm -2 mV and 205 mV for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and features high current density of 800 mA cm -2 within 300 mV for both OER and HER. Moreover, NCF 0.5 P@CNT/CW displays outstanding overall water splitting performance (η 50 = 1.62 V and η 100 = 1.67 V), outperforming Pt/C║RuO 2 (η 50 = 1.74 V), and can achieve the current density of 700 mA cm -2 at a lower cell voltage of 1.78 V. Overpotential is only 4.0 % decay after 120 h measurement at 50 mA cm -2 . Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveals Fe doping optimizes the binding energy and Gibbs free energy of intermediates, and regulates d-band center of NCF 0.5 P@CNT/CW. The construction of networks within natural wood (NW) lumens to produce porous wood aerogels (WAs) with fascinating characteristics of being lightweight, flexible, and porous is significant for the high value-added utilization of wood. Nonetheless, how wood species affect the structure and properties of WAs has not been comprehensively investigated. Herein, typical softwood of fir and hardwoods of poplar and balsa are employed to fabricate WAs with abundant nanofibrillar networks using the method of lignin removal and nanofibril's in situ regeneration. Benefiting from the avoidance of xylem ray restriction and the exposure of the cellulose framework, hardwood has a stronger tendency to form nanofibrillar networks compared to softwood. Specifically, a larger and more evenly distributed network structure is displayed in the lumens of balsa WAs (WA-3) with a low density (59 kg m -3 ), a high porosity (96%), and high compressive properties (strain = 40%; maximum stress = 0.42 MPa; height retention = 100%) because of the unique structure and properties of WA-3. Comparatively, the specific surface area (SSA) exhibits 25-, 27-, and 34-fold increments in the cases of fir WAs (WA-1), poplar WAs (WA-2), and WA-3. The formation of nanofibrillar networks depends on the low-density and thin cell walls of hardwood. This work offers a foundation for investigating the formation mechanisms of nanonetworks and for expanding the potential applications of WAs.

Distributed optical fibre sensing (DOFS)-based strain measurement systems are now routinely deployed across infrastructure health monitoring applications. However, there are still practical performance and measurement issues associated with the fibre's attachment method, particularly with thermoplastic pipeline materials (e.g., high-density polyethylene, HDPE) and adhesive affixment methods. In this paper, we introduce a new optical fibre installation method that utilises a hot-weld encapsulation approach that fully embeds the fibre onto the pipeline's plastic surface. We describe the development, application and benefits of the new embedment approach (as compared to adhesive methods) and illustrate its practical performance via a full-scale, real-world, dynamic loading trial undertaken on a 1.8 m diameter, 6.4 m long stormwater pipeline structure constructed from composite spiral-wound, steel-reinforced, HDPE pipe. The optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR)-based strain results show how the new method improves strain transference and dynamic measurement performance and how the data can be easily interpreted, in a practical context, without the need for complex strain transfer functions. Through the different performance tests, based on UK rail-road network transport loading conditions, we also show how centimetre- to metre-scale strain variations can be clearly resolved at the frequencies and levels consistent with transport- and construction-based, buried infrastructure loading scenarios.

A mild and efficient method for lignin β-O-4 cleavage and functionalization was achieved via photocatalysis. This protocol exhibits a broad scope of lignin models and excellent compatibility of functionalization reagents, constructing a series of functionalized lignin-based aromatic compounds. Highly selective formation of alkyl radical species through a proton-coupled electron transfer and β-scission process provides the opportunity to form new C-C and C-N bonds by reaction with electrophilic reagents.

Intermittent exotropia (IXT) is characterized by intermittently outward deviation of the eye and involved with vergence dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate the brain areas related to voluntary convergence and cortical activation changes between IXT patients and normal subjects. A total of 21 subjects, including 11 IXT patients and 10 age- and sex-matched normal subjects, were recruited for this study. A voluntary convergence task was employed, with changes in brain function measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Correlations between cortical activation and clinical measurements were conducted by Pearson's correlation analysis. fMRI results showed that during voluntary convergence, the medial frontal gyrus (MFG) and bilateral occipital cortex were activated in the normal group, whereas only activation of the occipital cortex in IXT patients. Compared with the normal, IXT patients showed hypo-activation of both the MFG and cuneus during the task. The activation of MFG was negatively correlated to the duration of IXT. This study demonstrates that both MFG and occipital cortex may participate in voluntary convergence in normal subjects, while IXT patients have an aberrant cortical function of the MFG and cuneus, and the duration of IXT likely influences the severity of MFG. Background: Compared with a lower neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(NLR), a higher one denotes severe asthma exacerbation in hospitalized asthmatic children. In addition, NLR is significantly higher in pediatric patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) than those without. Nevertheless, its role in pediatric patients with concomitant asthmatic exacerbation and CAP remains unknown., Methods: In this retrospective study including 1032 pediatric patients aged 5 to 14 years old, the diagnostic and prognostic value of NLR in children with concomitant asthmatic exacerbation and non-severe CAP were investigated., Results: The sensitivity and specificity of NLR for a diagnosis of CAP in patients with asthmatic exacerbation were 56.9% and 90.1%, respectively. The cutoff value of NLR for a diagnosis of CAP in patients with asthmatic exacerbation was 4.15 (P < 0.001). The cumulative asthmatic exacerbation during 3-month followup of patients with high NLR were 23 (21.3%) and 58 (42.0%) in the asthma and asthmatic CAP groups, respectively (P < 0.001). The patients with high NLR who had unimproved CAP were 15 (8.3%) and 23 (12.2%) in the CAP and asthmatic CAP groups, respectively (P = 0.006). Multivariate analyses showed that along with the increase of NLR by 1.0 point, the HR for the occurrence of asthmatic exacerbation and unimproved CAP were 2.91 [1.83-3.96] (P = 0.001) and 3.38 [1.66-5.10] (P < 0.001), respectively., Conclusions: NLR had high and moderate diagnostic value for the exclusion and indication of CAP, respectively, in pediatric patients with asthmatic exacerbation. Eukaryotic ribosome assembly is a highly orchestrated process that involves over two hundred protein factors. After early assembly events on nascent rRNA in the nucleolus, pre-60S particles undergo continuous maturation steps in the nucleoplasm, and prepare for nuclear export. Here, we report eleven cryo-EM structures of the nuclear pre-60S particles isolated from human cells through epitope-tagged GNL2, at resolutions of 2.8-4.3 Å. These high-resolution snapshots provide fine details for several major structural remodeling events at a virtual temporal resolution. Two new human nuclear factors, L10K and C11orf98, were also identified. Comparative structural analyses reveal that many assembly factors act as successive place holders to control the timing of factor association/dissociation events. They display multi-phasic binding properties for different domains and generate complex binding inter-dependencies as a means to guide the rRNA maturation process towards its mature conformation. Overall, our data reveal that nuclear assembly of human pre-60S particles is generally hierarchical with short branch pathways, and a few factors display specific roles as rRNA chaperones by confining rRNA helices locally to facilitate their folding, such as the C-terminal domain of SDAD1., (© 2023. Photocatalytic depolymerization is a high value-added approach for utilization of lignin. In this study, magnetic microspheres of FeCoRu@SiO 2 -TiO 2 were synthesized by a co-precipitation method. Doping with CoO x and RuO x was used to improve the response to visible light, and doping with TiO 2 was used to improve the response to ultraviolet light ( λ  < 380 nm). The lignin model compound depolymerization rate was >90%. The electron paramagnetic resonance results showed that the reaction occurred in two steps (aerobic phase and oxygen-free phase). Most of the O 2 - was produced in the first step by cleavage of C-O bonds. The second step was inhibited in an oxygen-free atmosphere. This research provides a valid method for enhancing the photocatalytic properties using full-spectrum light and exploring the lignin photocatalytic depolymerization mechanism. Cellulose nanofiber (CNF) aerogels hold considerable potential in wearable devices as pressure sensors and flexible electrochemical energy storage. However, the undirectional assembly of CNFs results in poor mechanical performance, which limits their application in structural engineering. In this study, we propose an anisotropic aerogel with both elastic and conductive properties inspired by the micro-nanostructure of natural wood. One-dimensional TEMPO cellulose nanofibers (TOCNF) were utilized as structural building blocks, while two-dimensional reduced graphene oxide (rGO) served as the electron transfer platform, owing to their high mechanical strength. The directionally aligned tubular structure composed of multilayered sheets was formed through rapid unidirectional freezing and subsequent steam heating reduction. These structures efficiently transferred stress throughout the porous skeleton, resulting in TOCNF-rGO aerogels with high compressibility and excellent fatigue resistance (2000 cycles at 60 % strain). The aerogel also exhibited high sensitivity, wide detection range, relatively fast response, and excellent compression cycle stability, making it suitable for accurately detecting various human biological and motion signals. Additionally, TOCNF-rGO can be assembled into a flexible all-solid-state symmetric supercapacitor that delivers excellent electrochemical performance. Thrombotic complications in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are uncommon due to coagulation dysfunction and thrombocytopenia. We report a unique case of AML presenting as concomitant pulmonary embolism and atypical acute myocardial infarction. A 67-year-old male experienced persistent bilateral chest pain. Despite an unremarkable electrocardiogram, elevated D-dimer and mildly increased troponin T levels prompted further investigation, leading to the diagnosis of simultaneous pulmonary embolism and acute myocardial infarction. The patient underwent percutaneous coronary intervention and received triple antithrombotic therapy. However, antithrombotic therapy was discontinued following a sharp decline in hemoglobin and platelet counts, and the patient subsequently developed persistent fever. AML was diagnosed via bone marrow biopsy. Switchable self-adhesive films are promising coating materials for constructing smart windows. Compared to commonly used hydrogels, self-adhesive supramolecular films have a variety of advantages and serve as a universal carrier of stimuli-responsiveness. In this study, supramolecular adhesive material is processed into self-adhesive films, which display tough and long-term stable adhesion to commercially available organic/inorganic glass windows. Spiropyrans are used as the photo-responsive units to endow smart windows with switchable optical behavior. Reverse photochromism is successfully realized by the combination of supramolecular films and spiropyrans. Background: In China, the recommended treatment regimens for HIV-infected individuals were tenofovir in combination with lamivudine or emtricitabine as NRTIs, efavirenz or rilpivirine as NNRTIs, lopinavir/ritonavir as protease inhibitors, and raltegravir or dolutegravir as INSTIs. The development of drug resistance increases the risk of viral rebound, opportunistic infections, and ultimately treatment failure such that the early detection of resistance is ideal. This study was developed to explore primary drug resistance characteristics and genotypic distributions in newly diagnosed antiretroviral therapy (ART)-naïve HIV-1 patients in Nanjing with the goal of establishing a basis for their individualized treatment in the clinic., Methods: Samples of serum were collected from newly diagnosed ART-naïve HIV patients from the Second Hospital of Nanjing between May 2021 and May 2022. The HIV-1 integrase (IN), protease (PR), and reverse transcriptase (RT) gene coding sequences were amplified from these samples, sequenced, and assessed for drug resistance-related mutations., Results: Major integrase resistance-related mutations were detected in 4/360 amplified samples, with 5 other patient samples exhibiting accessory resistance mutations. The overall prevalence of PR and RT inhibitor-related transmitted drug resistance mutations (TDRMs) in this patient population was 16.99% (61/359). The most common mutations were non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor-related mutations (51/359; 14.21%), followed by those associated with nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (7/359; 1.95%) and protease inhibitors (7/359; 1.95%). Dual-resistant strains were also observed in a subset of patients., Conclusions: In summary, this study is the first to have surveyed the prevalence of integrase inhibitor resistance-related mutations and other drug resistance-related mutations among newly diagnosed ART-naïve HIV-positive patients in Nanjing, China. The Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 dominated the COVID-19 pandemic due to its high viral replication capacity and immune evasion, causing massive outbreaks of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. Currently, variant identification is performed mainly by sequencing. However, the high requirements for equipment and operators as well as its high cost have limited its application in underdeveloped regions. To achieve an economical and rapid method of variant identification suitable for undeveloped areas, we applied an amplification-refractory mutation system (ARMS) based on PCR for the detection of novel coronavirus variants. The results showed that this method could be finished in 90 min and detect as few as 500 copies/mL and not react with SARS-Coronavirus, influenza A H1N1(2009) , and other cross-pathogens or be influenced by fresh human blood, α- interferon, and other interfering substances. In a set of double-blind trials, tests of 262 samples obtained from patients confirmed with Delta variant infection revealed that our method was able to accurately identify the Delta variant with high sensitivity and specificity. In conclusion, the ARMS-PCR method applied in Delta variant identification is rapid, sensitive, specific, economical, and suitable for undeveloped areas. Yam (Dioscorea spp.) is a major food source in many countries due to its tuber rich in starch (60 %-89 % of the dry weight) and various important micronutrients. Orientation Supergene Cultivation (OSC) pattern is a simple and efficient cultivation mode developed in China in recent years. However, little is known about its effect on yam tuber starch. In this study, the starchy tuber yield, starch structure and physicochemical properties were compared and analyzed in detail between OSC and Traditional Vertical Cultivation (TVC) with Dioscorea persimilis "zhugaoshu", a widely cultivated variety. The results proved that OSC significantly increased tuber yield (23.76 %-31.86 %) and commodity quality (more smooth skin) compared with TVC in three consecutive years of field experiments. Moreover, OSC increased amylopectin content, resistant starch content, granule average diameter and average degree of crystallinity by 2.7 %, 5.8 %, 14.7 % and 9.5 %, respectively, while OSC decreased starch molecular weight (Mw). These traits resulted in starch with lower thermal properties (To, Tp, Tc, ΔH gel ), but higher pasting properties (PV, TV). Our results indicated that cultivation pattern affected the yam production and starch physicochemical properties. In the Karst region of Southwest China, the content of soil heavy metals is generally high because of the geological background. Moreover, Southwest China is rich in mineral resources. A large number of mining and smelting activities discharge heavy metals into surrounding soil and cause superimposed pollution, which has drawn widespread concern. Due to the large variation coefficients of soil heavy metals in the Karst region, it is particularly essential to select appropriate analysis methods. In this paper, Jichangpo in Puding County, a Karst area with multi-mineral mining and smelting, is selected as the research object. A total of 368 pieces of agricultural topsoil in the study area are collected. The pollution level of heavy metals in agricultural soil is evaluated by the geological accumulation index (I geo ) and enrichment factor (EF). Absolute Factor Score/Multiple Linear Regression (APCS/MLR), geographic information system (GIS), self-organizing mapping (SOM), and random forest (RF) are used for the source allocation of soil heavy metals. Finally, the combination of APCS/MLR and health risk assessment model is adopted to evaluate the risks of heavy metal sources and determine the priority-control source. The results show that the average values of soil heavy metals in the study area (Cd, Hg, As, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, and Ni) exceed the background values of corresponding elements in Guizhou Province. Three sources of heavy metals are identified by combining APCS/MLR, GIS, SOM, and RF. Zn (63.47%), Pb (55.77%), Cd (58.98%), Hg (32.17%), Cu (14.41%), and As (5.99%) are related to lead-zinc mining and smelting; Cr (98.14%), Ni (90.64%), Cu (76.93%), Pb (43.02%), Zn (35.22%), Cd (28.97%), Hg (22.44%), and As (5.84%) are mixed sources (natural and agricultural sources); As (88.17%), Hg (45.39%), Cd (12.04%), Cu (8.66%), and Ni (6.72%) are related to the mining and smelting of coal and iron. The results of health risk assessment show that only As poses a non-carcinogenic risk to human health. 3.31% of the sampling points of As have non-carcinogenic risks to adults and 10.22% to children. In terms of carcinogenic risks, As, Pb, and Cr pose carcinogenic risks to adults and children. Combined with APCS/MLR and the health risk assessment model, the mining and smelting of coal and iron is the priority-control pollution source. This paper provides a comprehensive method for studying the distribution of heavy metal sources in areas with large variation coefficients of soil heavy metals in the Karst region. Background: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are easily misdiagnosed as multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), and treatment drugs are very limited. The main objective of our study was to evaluate the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) in vitro of bedaquiline (BDQ), clofazimine (CFZ), linezolid (LZD), delamanid (DLM), and pretomanid (PA-824) for treatment of M. abscessus and M. intracellulare . Furthermore, we determined whether MAB&#95;1448, MAB&#95;4384, MAB&#95;2299c, MAB&#95;1483, MAB&#95;0540, rplD, rplC , and rrl were related to drug resistance to provide an experimental basis for the use of these five drugs in the treatment of NTM., Methods: We identified sample characteristics of epidemics in 550 patients with suspected NTM infection in Nanjing from 2019 to 2021 using the PCR-reverse spot hybrid method. Furthermore, we evaluated the MIC of BDQ, CFZ, DLM, LZD, and PA-824 against 155 clinical isolates of NTM using the microbroth dilution method. The resistant isolates were sequenced using Sanger sequencing., Results: The top three dominant species of NTM distributed in Nanjing were M. intracellulare, M. avium , and M. abscessus . Notably, the proportion of M. abscessus infections increased. The proportion of M. abscessus increased from 12% in 2019 to 18% in 2021. Demographic analysis showed that female infection rates were substantialy greater than male for M. abscessus (P=0.017, <0.05). Our results demonstrate that NTM are highly sensitive to bedaquiline and clofazimine in vitro. However, delamanid and pretomanid had little effect on M. abscessus and M. intracellulare . In addition, we found 30-41 nucleotide deletion mutations and some novel point mutations in the MAB&#95;0540 gene of M. abscessus that are resistant to clofazimine., Conclusion: Bedaquiline, clofazimine, and linezolid were more successful in vitro treatments against M. abscessus and M. intracellulare . Introduction and Objectives: Cirrhotic patients with acute variceal hemorrhage (AVH) have high short-term mortality. Established prognostic scores are seldom applicable clinically, partially because they need external validation or contain subjective variables. We aimed to develop and validate a practical prognostic nomogram based on objective predictors to predict prognosis for cirrhotic patients with AVH., Patients and Methods: We enrolled 308 AVH patients with cirrhosis from our center as the derivation cohort to develop a new nomogram using logistic regression and validated it in cohorts of patients from Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) III (n = 247) and IV (n = 302)., Results: International normalized ratio (INR), albumin (ALB) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were identified as predictors for inpatient mortality and a nomogram was constructed based on them. The nomogram discriminated well in both derivation and MIMIC-III/-IV validation cohorts with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs) of 0.846 and 0.859/0.833, respectively and showed a better agreement between expected and observed outcomes (Hosmer-Lemeshow tests, all comparisons, P > 0.05) than other scores in all cohorts. Photonic materials with a tunable chiral nematic structure that can selectively reflect light dynamically are valuable for applications in smart responsive materials. Here, we prepared potential photonic composites with a chiral nematic structure by forming cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and waterborne polyurethane (WPU) composites with different compositions on different substrates by evaporation-induced self-assembly. With increasing WPU content, the reflected wavelength increased from 400 to 680 nm, which was mainly caused by the increase of the chiral nematic pitch. In addition, the mechanical properties were better for higher WPU content. WPU was sensitive to small amounts of moisture in ethanol owing to the swollen WPU after absorbing water will increase the helical pitch. The reversible red shift induced by moisture was approximately 100 nm. When wood was used as the substrate, the CNCs still self-assembled to form chiral nematic structures and the adhesion forces of the composites to the wood substrate were strong. By using MgCl 2 solution as an ink, invisible patterns can be written on the coating, which can be revealed temporarily by ethanol. In addition, the invisible pattern of photonic coating is rewritable. The global challenge of oil pollution calls for the efficient selective recovery of oil or organics from oil-water mixtures. A pH-responsive carbon foam (CF) made from liquefied larch sawdust (LLS) with switchable wettability was fabricated in this work. After grafted with poly 4-vinyl pyridine (P4vp), the CF obtained a switchable wettability surface, which allowed the CF to exhibit superhydrophilicity and superhydrophobicity at different pH levels, respectively. The results revealed that the pH-responsive CF possessed a three-dimensional (3D) spongy-like skeleton and porous structure with a diameter between 50 and 200 µm. Thus, the pH-responsive CF could absorb 15-35 g/g of oil/organics in a neutral aqueous solution at pH = 7 and desorb all the absorbate within 40 s after immersion in an aqueous solution at pH = 1. Moreover, only about 2.8% loss was observed for organic (chloroform) absorption and recovery after reusing up to 15 cycles, which indicated promising prospects in oil and organic recovery., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflicts of interest.

Layered ternary carbides and nitrides, also known as MAX phases, have attracted enormous attention for many applications, especially as precursors to produce 2D metal carbides and nitrides called MXenes. However, it is still challenging to tune and control the shape/morphology of MAX phase particles at the nanoscale, as they are typically manufactured as large grains using ceramic technology. Herein, nanostructured Ti-Al-C MAX phases with fine-tuned morphology of nanofibers and nanoflakes are prepared by using 1D and 2D carbon precursors at a synthesis temperature of 900 °C. The nanostructured MAX phases are used as precursors to produce nanosized multilayered MXenes, with a considerably shorter etching time and a low reaction temperature. These nanosized MXenes exhibit good electrochemical lithium-ion storage properties and a pseudocapacitive electrochemical signature. The obtained Ti 2 CT x MXene electrode can deliver delithiation capacity of 300 mAh g -1 at low rates and 100 mAh g -1 when the lithiation/delithiation cycle happens within 30 s. Availability of nanoscale MAX phases and MXene nanoflakes with small lateral size may open new opportunities for both classes of materials., (© 2022 The Authors. Viral diseases of cultivated crops are often caused by virus spillover from wild plants. Tobacco ( N . tabacum ) is an important economic crop grown globally. The viral pathogens of tobacco are traditional major subjects in virology studies and key considerations in tobacco breeding practices. A positive-strand RNA virus, wild tomato mosaic virus (WTMV), belonging to the genus potyvirus in the family potyviridae was recently found to infect tobacco in China. In this study, diseased tobacco leaf samples were collected in the Henan Province of China during 2020-2021. Several samples from different locations were identified as WTMV positive. An infectious DNA clone was constructed based on one of the WTMV isolates. By using this clone, we found that WTMV from tobacco could establish infections on natural reservoir hosts, demonstrating a possible route of WTMV spillover and overwintering in the tobacco field. Furthermore, the WTMV infection was found to be accompanied by other tobacco viruses in the field. The co-inoculation experiments indicate the superinfection exclusion (SIE) between WTMV and other potyvirus species that infect tobacco. Overall, our work reveals novel aspects of WTMV evolution and infection in tobacco and provides an important tool for further studies of WTMV.

Paeonia rockii is well-known for its distinctive large dark-purple spot at the white petal base and has been considered to be the main genetic source of spotted tree peony cultivars. In this study, the petal base and petal background of Paeonia ostii (pure white petals without any spot), P. rockii , and other three tree peony cultivars were sampled at four blooming stages from the small bell-like bud stage to the initial blooming stage. There is a distinct difference between the pigmentation processes of spots and petal backgrounds; the spot pigmentation was about 10 days earlier than the petal background. Moreover, the cyanin and peonidin type anthocyanin accumulation at the petal base mainly contributed to the petal spot formation. Then, we identified a C1 subgroup R2R3-MYB transcription factor, PrMYB5 , predominantly transcribing at the petal base. This is extremely consistent with PrDFR and PrANS expression, the contents of anthocyanins, and spot formation. Furthermore, PrMYB5 could bind to and activate the promoter of PrDFR in yeast one-hybrid and dual-luciferase assays, which was further verified in overexpression of PrMYB5 in tobacco and PrMYB5 -silenced petals of P. rockii by comparing the color change, anthocyanin contents, and gene expression. Purple flowering stalks and green flowering stalks of Brassica campestris are widely cultivated in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Here, concentrations of the main health-promoting compounds and antioxidant capacity levels were characterized in different parts (leaves, peel, flesh, and inflorescences) of purple and green flowering stalks. There were significant differences in the concentrations of health-promoting compounds between the two variants; the concentrations of pigments, especially anthocyanidins, and gluconapin, were significantly higher in purple flowering stalks than in green flowering stalks, and the progoitrin content was significantly higher in green flowering stalks than in purple flowering stalks. The leaves were judged to be the most nutritional edible part because they had the highest concentrations of pigments, ascorbic acid, proanthocyanidins, flavonoids, and total phenolics. Antioxidant capacity was also highest in the leaves, and it was positively correlated with the concentration of health-promoting compounds. Purple flowering stalks and green flowering stalks were found to be rich in health-promoting compounds, especially glucosinolates. Overall, our findings indicate that consumption of the leaves and peel would provide the most health benefits. Some suggestions are provided regarding the processing and utilization of these edible components.

Low-temperature adhesion is ubiquitous in daily life and industry. However, most supramolecular adhesives are thermoplastic materials that require heating during the adhesion. Herein, a supramolecular approach is used to construct unique pressure-sensitive adhesives ( PSA s) that can be directly operated at low temperatures (-60 °C). Supramolecular polymerization between phytic acid ( PA ) and water ( H ) endows poly( PA - H )s with excellent mechanical properties and low temperature adhesion capacity. Poly( PA - H )s can easily be processed into PSA tapes, pastes, and particles. Poly( PA - H )s were directly adhered to various surfaces by pressing at low temperatures (0 to -60 °C). No heating or high-temperature-induced solid-liquid transition was required for the low-temperature adhesion of poly( PA - H )s. With the help of structural water units in supramolecular polymers, poly( PA - H )s showed strong, stable, and organic solvent resistant adhesion performances at low temperatures, with adhesion strength of up to 3.61 MPa at -60 °C.

The diversification of B-cell receptor (BCR), as well as its secreted product, antibody, is a hallmark of adaptive immunity, which has more specific roles in fighting against pathogens. The antibody diversification is from recombination-activating gene (RAG)-initiated V(D)J recombination, activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID)-initiated class switch recombination (CSR), and V(D)J exon somatic hypermutation (SHM). The proper repair of RAG- and AID-initiated DNA lesions and double-strand breaks (DSBs) is required for promoting antibody diversification, suppressing genomic instability, and oncogenic translocations. DNA damage response (DDR) factors and DSB end-joining factors are recruited to the RAG- and AID-initiated DNA lesions and DSBs to coordinately resolve them for generating productive recombination products during antibody diversification. Recently, cohesin-mediated loop extrusion is proposed to be the underlying mechanism of V(D)J recombination and CSR, which plays essential roles in promoting the orientation-biased deletional end-joining .
