Although Ru-based materials are among the outstanding catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), the instability issue still haunts them and impedes the widespread application. The instability of Ru-based OER catalysts is generally ascribed to the formation of soluble species through the over-oxidation of Ru and structural decomposition caused by involvement of lattice oxygen. Herein, an effective strategy of selectively activating the lattice oxygen around Ru site is proposed to improve the OER activity and stability. Our synthesized spinel-type electrocatalyst of Ru and Zn co-doped Co 3 O 4 showed an ultralow overpotential of 172 mV at 10 mA cm -2 and a long-term stability reaching to 100 hours at 10 mA cm -2 for alkaline OER. The experimental results and theoretical simulations demonstrated that the lattice oxygen site jointly connected with the octahedral Ru and tetrahedral Zn atoms became more active than other oxygen sites near Ru atom, which further lowered the reaction energy barriers and avoided generating excessive oxygen vacancies to enhance the structural stability of Ru sites. Although starch has been intensively studied as a raw material for 3D printing, the relationship between several important process parameters in the preparation of starch gels and the printing results is unclear. In this study, the relationship between different processing conditions and the gel printing performance of corn starch was evaluated by printing tests, rheological tests and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) tests, and a back-propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) model for predicting gel printing performance was developed. The results revealed that starch gels exhibited favorable printing performance when the gelatinization temperature ranged from 75 °C to 85 °C, and the starch content was maintained between 15 % and 20 %. The R 2 adj of the BP-ANN models were all reached 0.894, which indicated good predictive ability. The results of the study not only provide theoretical support for the application of corn starch gels in 3D food printing, but also present a novel approach for predicting the printing performance of related materials. This article investigates the effect of different microwave powers on the crosslinking behavior and microwave freeze-drying characteristics of wheat starch-lauroyl arginate complex during the microwave freeze-drying process. During microwave freeze-drying, as microwave power increased from 0.1 W/g to 0.9 W/g, the freeze-drying time of WS-LA was reduced by 50 %, while the uniformity of freeze-drying was not affected by its composition. In the research results obtained from DSC, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), XRD, and SEM analyses, with the microwave power increased from 0.1 W/g to 0.9 W/g, the enthalpy value of the melting peak of the WS-LA (wheat starch-lauric acid) composite decreased from 1.15 J/g to 0.62 J/g. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) value increased from 25.6 to 30.79. The ratio of absorbance at 1022/995 cm -1 increased from 1.0111 to 1.0707. The recrystallization (RC) value decreased from 8.77 % to 0.07 %. Additionally, in the microstructure, the size of WS-LA composite particles decreased accordingly. A concise synthetic strategy utilizing a Zr-catalyst for the construction of cyctetryptomycin A and B is herein reported. Cyctetryptomycin A and B are recently isolated, complex tetrameric natural products for which total synthesis has not been previously reported. This study presents a practical approach for the construction of two consecutive quaternary carbon centers via a Zr-catalyst. Furthermore, the first total synthesis of cyctetryptomycin A and B was achieved by this Zr-catalyzed radical coupling. The radical dimerization reaction mediated by the Zr-catalyst required dppe as an indispensable additive. Through both experimental and theoretical investigations into the mechanism of this Zr-catalyzed reaction, the specific role of dppe was elucidated. In addition, the synthetic approach was extended to enable the practical synthesis of other dimeric natural products, including tetratryptomycin A, dibrevianamide F, and ditryptophenaline. Finally, the synthetic mechanism of cyctetryptomycin A and B, through the oxidative macrocyclization of tetratryptomycin A by CttpC, was newly elucidated by both experimental and docking simulations., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) significantly compromises the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and impairs patient recovery. This study elucidates the critical role of astrocytic Neogenin-1 (NEO1) in BBB integrity post-SAH and examines the regulatory effects of hepcidin on endothelial cell (EC) function amid NEO1-mediated disruptions in iron homeostasis. Proteomic analyses of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from SAH patients revealed a substantial decrease in NEO1 expression, identifying it as a key factor in BBB integrity. 111 CSF proteins were significantly reduced in early SAH stages (days 1-3), with NEO1 among the most significantly altered. This dysregulation was linked to poorer patient outcomes, as indicated by a negative correlation between NEO1 levels and Modified Rankin Scale scores six months post-SAH (R = -0.4743, P < 0.0001). Experimental models further highlighted the importance of NEO1: SAH model and NEO1 GFAP-Cre mice exhibited exacerbated EC dysfunction and increased BBB permeability, evidenced by significant Evans Blue retention and dextran leakage in the parietal cortex, effects that were mitigated by hepcidin administration. Our findings highlight the complex interplay between astrocytic signaling and endothelial function in SAH pathophysiology. The loss of astrocytic NEO1 led to increased EC proliferation and altered BBB structure, as confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and immunostaining for PECAM-1, indicating heightened blood vessel density in the affected cortex. Hepcidin treatment effectively reversed the EC dysfunction and BBB disruption in both NEO1-cKO mice and the SAH model, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic agent to enhance recovery and improve prognosis following SAH., (© 2024. The prognosis of thyroid cancer in patients varies significantly based on different pathological types or distinct clinical situations. Investigating the expression of immune checkpoint molecules PD-L1 and B7-H3 in high-risk thyroid cancer and their correlation with clinicopathological features and prognosis will contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies. A retrospective sample of 202 patients with thyroid cancer who underwent surgery at the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was collected, including 33 cases of anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC), 21 cases of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) with distant metastasis (DM), 7 cases of differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma (DHGTC), and 109 cases of aggressive subtypes of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) (including 28 cases of tall cell PTC, 31 cases of diffuse sclerosing PTC, 20 cases of solid PTC, 15 cases of columnar cell PTC, and 15 cases of hobnail PTC). In the control group, there were 32 cases of classic PTC. The differences in protein expression between PD-L1 and B7-H3 in several high-risk thyroid cancers and normal tissues and controls were compared by immunohistochemical staining, and the clinicopathological features and prognostic relevance were statistically analyzed. The expression of PD-L1 in ATC (P < 0.001), tall cell PTC (P = 0.031), and DHGTC (P = 0.003) was significantly higher than that in classic PTC. The expression of B7-H3 in ATC (P < 0.001), DTC with DM (P = 0.001), diffuse sclerosing PTC (P = 0.013), columnar cell PTC (P = 0.007), solid PTC (P < 0.001), hobnail PTC (P < 0.001), and DHGTC (P < 0.001) was significantly higher than that in classic PTC. In ATC, PD-L1 expression correlated significantly with extrathyroidal extension (ETE) (P = 0.027) and B7-H3 expression correlated significantly with male patients (P = 0.031) and lymph node metastasis (LNM) (P = 0.026). The positive expression of B7-H3 (P = 0.041) was an independent risk factor for disease progression in ATC. B7-H3 positive expression (P = 0.049), PD-L1 positive expression (P = 0.015), and tumor diameter ≥ 2 cm (P = 0.038) were independent risk factors for disease progression in patients with DTC with DM. PD-L1 positive expression (P = 0.019) and tumor diameter ≥ 2 cm (P = 0.018) were independent risk factors for disease progression in patients with aggressive subtypes of PTC. B7-H3 and PD-L1 are expected to be effective prognostic indicators for patients with aggressive thyroid cancer, which can help in optimization of individualized treatment strategies. Silver nanowires (NWs) (AgNWs) have emerged as the most promising conductive materials in flexible optoelectronic devices owing to their excellent photoelectric properties and mechanical flexibility. It is widely acknowledged that the practical application of AgNW networks faces challenges, such as high surface roughness, poor substrate adhesion, and limited stability. Encapsulating AgNW networks with graphene has been recognized as a viable strategy to tackle these issues. However, conventional methods like self-assembly reduction-oxidation or chemical vapor deposition often yield graphene protective layers with inherent defects. Here, we propose a novel one-step hot-pressing method containing ethanol solution that combines the spontaneous transfer and encapsulation process of rGO films onto the surface of the AgNWs network, enabling the preparation of flexible rGO/AgNWs/PET (reduced graphene oxide/silver NWs/polyethylene terephthalate) electrodes. The composite electrode exhibits outstanding photoelectric properties ( T ≈ 88%, R ≈ 6 Ω sq -1 ) and possesses a smooth surface, primarily attributed to the capillary force generated by ethanol evaporation, ensuring the integrity of the rGO delamination process on the original substrate. The capillary force simultaneously promotes the tight encapsulation of rGO and AgNWs, as well as the welding of the AgNWs junction, thereby enhancing the mechanical stability (20,000 bending cycles and 100 cycles of taping tests), thermal stability (∼30 °C and ∼25% humidity for 150 days), and environmental adaptability (100 days of chemical attack) of the electrode. The electrode's practical feasibility has been validated by its exceptional flexibility and cycle stability (95 and 98% retention after 5000 bending cycles and 12,000 s long-term cycles) in flexible electrochromic devices.

Living organisms use ions and small molecules as information carriers to communicate with the external environment at ultralow power consumption. Inspired by biological systems, artificial ion-based devices have emerged in recent years to try to realize efficient information-processing paradigms. Nanofluidic ionic memristors, memory resistors based on confined fluidic systems whose internal ionic conductance states depend on the historical voltage, have attracted broad attention and are used as neuromorphic devices for computing. Despite their high exposure, nanofluidic ionic memristors are still in the initial stage. Therefore, systematic guidance for developing and reasonably designing ionic memristors is necessary. This review systematically summarizes the history, mechanisms, and potential applications of nanofluidic ionic memristors. The essential challenges in the field and the outlook for the future potential applications of nanofluidic ionic memristors are also discussed.

Neuronal apoptosis is a common pathological change in early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and it is closely associated with neurological deficits. According to previous research, p97 exhibits a remarkable anti-cardiomyocyte apoptosis effect. p97 is a critical molecule in the growth and development of the nervous system. However, it remains unknown whether p97 can exert an anti-neuronal apoptosis effect in SAH. In the present study, we examined the role of p97 in neuronal apoptosis induced after SAH and investigated the underlying mechanism. We established an in vivo SAH mice model and overexpressed the p97 protein through transfection of the mouse cerebral cortex. We analyzed the protective effect of p97 on neurons and evaluated short-term and long-term neurobehavior in mice after SAH. p97 was found to be significantly downregulated in the cerebral cortex of the affected side in mice after SAH. The site showing reduced p97 expression also exhibited a high level of neuronal apoptosis. Adeno-associated virus-mediated overexpression of p97 significantly reduced the extent of neuronal apoptosis, improved early and long-term neurological function, and repaired the neuronal damage in the long term. These neuroprotective effects were accompanied by enhanced proteasome function and inhibition of the integrated stress response (ISR) apoptotic pathway involving eIF2α/CHOP. The administration of the p97 inhibitor NMS-873 induced a contradictory effect. Subsequently, we observed that inhibiting the function of the proteasome with the proteasome inhibitor PS-341 blocked the anti-neuronal apoptosis effect of p97 and enhanced the activation of the ISR apoptotic pathway. However, the detrimental effects of NMS-873 and PS-341 in mice with SAH were mitigated by the administration of the ISR inhibitor ISRIB. These results suggest that p97 can promote neuronal survival and improve neurological function in mice after SAH. Background and Purpose: Recent observational studies have reported that serum total homocysteine (tHcy) is associated with intracranial aneurysms (IAs). However, the causal effect of tHcy on IAs is unknown. We leveraged large-scale genetic association and real-world data to investigate the causal effect of tHcy on IA formation., Methods: We performed a two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) using publicly available genome-wide association studies summary statistics to investigate the causal relationship between tHcy and IAs, following the recommendations of the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology-MR statement. Furthermore, a propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was conducted to evaluate the detailed effects of tHcy on risk of IA formation by utilizing real-world multicentre data, including 9902 patients with and without IAs (1:1 matched). Further interaction and subgroup analyses were performed to elucidate how tHcy affects risk of IA formation., Results: MR analyses indicated that genetically determined tHcy was causally associated with IA risk (OR, 1.38, 95% CI 1.07 to 1.79; p=0.018). This is consistent with the more conservative weighted median analysis (OR, 1.41, 95% CI 1.03 to 1.93; p=0.039). Further sensitivity analyses showed no evidence of horizontal pleiotropy or heterogeneity of single nucleotide polymorphisms in causal inference. According to the PSM study, we found that, compared with low tHcy (≤15 µmol/L), moderate tHcy (>15-30 µmol/L) (OR 2.13, 95% CI 1.93 to 2.36) and high tHcy (>30 µmol/L) (OR 3.66, 95% CI 2.71 to 4.95) were associated with a higher IA risk (p trend <0.001). Subgroup analyses demonstrated significant ORs of tHcy in each subgroup when stratified by traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Furthermore, there was also a synergistic effect of tHcy and hypertension on IA risk (p interaction <0.001; the relative excess risk due to interaction=1.65, 95% CI 1.29 to 2.01)., Conclusion: Both large-scale genetic evidence and multicentre real-world data support a causal association between tHcy and risk of IA formation. Background: Goji berries, renowned for their nutritional benefits, are traditionally dried to extend shelf life and preserve quality. However, conventional drying methods often result in uneven drying, color loss and reduced rehydration capacity. This study investigates an innovative hybrid strategy combining ultrasonic-ethyl oleate (US+AEEO) pretreatment with heat pump drying (HPD) to enhance the drying process of Goji berries., Results: Fresh Goji berries underwent US+AEEO pretreatment, which significantly disrupted the waxy layer, enhancing drying efficiency and water infiltration during rehydration. Compared to freeze drying (FD), HPD combined with US+AEEO pretreatment resulted in higher retention of total polyphenol content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) in the Goji soaking soup. Specifically, the HPD-US+AEEO samples exhibited the highest TPC and TFC levels, significantly outperforming FD samples. Additionally, the DPPH and ABTS antioxidant assays demonstrated higher scavenging activities in HPD-US+AEEO samples. The rehydration kinetics revealed that HPD samples had a superior rehydration rate and final moisture content compared to FD samples. Low-field nuclear magnetic resonance and magnetic resonance imaging analyses confirmed enhanced water distribution and higher mobility in HPD-US+AEEO samples. Scanning electron microscopy indicated a more porous structure in US+AEEO-treated samples, facilitating better water absorption and functional component retention., Conclusion: The combination of US+AEEO pretreatment with HPD significantly improves the drying process of Goji berries, enhancing nutrient retention, color preservation and rehydration properties. The most common primary malignant tumor in the adult brain is glioblastoma multiforme (GBM); however, its underlying pathogenic mechanism remains elusive. The never in mitosis (NIMA)-related kinase 2 (NEK2) has been closely associated with the prognosis of various malignancies. Nevertheless, the complete elucidation of NEK2's potential clinical value, particularly in glioma prognosis and development, remains lacking. U87MG and A172 glioblastoma cells were infected with sh-NEK2 lentivirus or oe-NEK2 plasmid to investigate the effect of NEK2 on cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Cell viability was measured using CCK-8 and colony formation assays, while Transwell assay was utilized to assess cell migration and invasion. Protein expression levels were determined through western blot analysis. Additionally, CGGA and TCGA databases were used for bioinformatics analysis in order to examine the NEK2 expression. Through comprehensive bioinformatics analysis, we identified elevated mRNA expression levels of NEK2 in gliomas compared to normal tissues, which correlated with poor prognosis among glioma patients. Moreover, functional experiments revealed that silencing NEK2 suppressed glioma cell proliferation while overexpression of NEK2 promoted migration and invasion capabilities. Finally, our study uncovered that NEK2 regulates the malignant progression of TP53 wild-type glioblastoma by facilitating TP53 ubiquitination.

To enhance the value proposition of sweet potato and oat while broadening their applicability in further processing, this study systematically investigated the impact of oat flour incorporation ratios (5%-25% of sweet potato dry weight) on the quality attributes of sweet potato-oat composite dough and its resulting steamed cake products. The results showed that the addition of oat flour could promote the rheological, water retention, and thermomechanical properties of the composite dough and improve the internal microstructure, specific volume, texture, and other processing properties of the steamed cake products. The rheology, water retention, and protein stability of the dough were maximized when the proportion of oat flour was 25%. The textural properties of steamed cakes, hardness, elasticity, cohesion, adhesion, chewiness, and recovery significantly increased (p < 0.05) and viscosity significantly decreased (p < 0.05) with the addition of oat flour. It is noteworthy that thermodynamic properties, internal structure of the dough, and air holding capacity, which are critical for processing, showed the best results at 20% oat flour addition. Therefore, the addition of 20%-25% oats is recommended to produce composite doughs with optimal quality and processing characteristics. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: As living standards improve, traditional cereals may no longer able to meet people's health needs. Therefore, there is an urgent consumer demand for nutritious, tasty alternatives to staple foods. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the effect of spray drying (SD), spray freeze-drying (SFD), freeze-drying (FD), and microwave freeze-drying (MFD) on the characteristics of fish oil (FO) microcapsules. The physicochemical properties, morphology, fatty acid composition, and stability of the microcapsules were analyzed. The encapsulation efficiencies of microcapsules dried by SD, SFD, FD, and MFD were 86.98%, 77.79%, 63.29%, and 57.89%, respectively. SD microcapsules exhibited superior properties in terms of effective loading capacity, color, and flowability. Conversely, SFD microcapsules demonstrated improved solubility. Microencapsulation positively affected the thermal stability of FO, but the content of unsaturated fatty acids decreased. The findings from the storage experiment indicated that the oxidative stability of SD fish oil microcapsules was marginally lower compared to microcapsules produced through three alternative drying techniques, all of which were based on the FD concept. To overcome the global water shortage, the treated wastewater is increasingly utilized in agricultural irrigation, and thus reducing freshwater consumption and increasing the water sustainability. Drip irrigation technology is the most appropriate irrigation method to utilize these water sources. However, its operating performance is negatively affected by calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ) scaling, which is one of the most dominant precipitations and also closely related to dissolved ions and the hydraulic characteristics inside irrigation systems. Thus, the effects of eight common dissolved ions (K + , Mg 2+ , Mn 2+ , Zn 2+ , Fe 3+ , NO 3 - , SO 4 2- , and PO 4 3- ) in these water sources and four hydraulic shear stresses (0, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 Pa) on CaCO 3 scaling formation were assessed in this study. Results showed that CaCO 3 scaling was primarily formed of calcite and aragonite. Fe 3+ would significantly accelerate the CaCO 3 scaling accumulation, as it reduced the unit cell volume and chemical bonds of calcite, enhancing calcite adhesion and stability. On the other hand, Mg 2+ , Mn 2+ , NO 3 - , SO 4 2- , and PO 4 3- significantly inhibited CaCO 3 scaling. Among them, Mg 2+ , Mn 2+ , and PO 4 3- followed the typical water chemical precipitation rule, while NO 3 - increased water molecule diffusion rate and thus decreased the possibility that Ca 2+ and CO 3 2- to precipitate. SO 4 2- grabbed the binding point belonging to CO 3 2- and was adsorbed on the calcite crystal, which inhibited crystal growth. However, those treatments under K + and Zn 2+ did not reach a significant level due to their solubleness. During the precipitation of CaCO 3 , there were significant (p < 0.01) interactions between dissolved ions and hydraulic shear stresses. When hydraulic shear stresses varied, the effects of Fe 3+ and SO 4 2- on the CaCO 3 scaling were relatively weakened, while that of Mg 2+ was relatively strengthened. In return, dissolved ions affected the effect of hydraulic shear stresses on CaCO 3 scaling. Passive translational acceleration (PTA) has been demonstrated to induce the stress response and regulation of autonomic balance in healthy individuals. Electrodermal activity (EDA) and heart rate variability (HRV) measurements are reliable indicators of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and can be used to assess stress levels. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential of combining EDA and HRV measurements in assessing the physiological stress response induced by PTA. Fourteen healthy subjects were randomly assigned to two groups of equal size. The experimental group underwent five trials of elevator rides, while the control group received a sham treatment. EDA and HRV indices were obtained via ultra-short-term analysis and compared between the two groups to track changes in the ANS. In addition, the complexity of the EDA time series was compared between the 4 s before and the 2-6 s after the onset of PTA to assess changes in the subjects' stress levels in the experimental group. The results revealed a significant increase in the skin conductance response (SCR) frequency and a decrease in the root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD) and high frequency (HF) components of HRV. In terms of stress assessment, the results showed an increase in the complexity of the EDA time series 2-6 s after the onset of PTA. These results indicate an elevation in sympathetic tone when healthy subjects were exposed to a translational transport scenario. Subarachnoid hemorrhage is associated with high morbidity and mortality and lacks effective treatment. Pyroptosis is a crucial mechanism underlying early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Previous studies have confirmed that tumor necrosis factor-stimulated gene-6 (TSG-6) can exert a neuroprotective effect by suppressing oxidative stress and apoptosis. However, no study to date has explored whether TSG-6 can alleviate pyroptosis in early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage. In this study, a C57BL/6J mouse model of subarachnoid hemorrhage was established using the endovascular perforation method. Our results indicated that TSG-6 expression was predominantly detected in astrocytes, along with NLRC4 and gasdermin-D (GSDMD). The expression of NLRC4, GSDMD and its N-terminal domain (GSDMD-N), and cleaved caspase-1 was significantly enhanced after subarachnoid hemorrhage and accompanied by brain edema and neurological impairment. To explore how TSG-6 affects pyroptosis during early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage, recombinant human TSG-6 or a siRNA targeting TSG-6 was injected into the cerebral ventricles. Exogenous TSG-6 administration downregulated the expression of NLRC4 and pyroptosis-associated proteins and alleviated brain edema and neurological deficits. Moreover, TSG-6 knockdown further increased the expression of NLRC4, which was accompanied by more severe astrocyte pyroptosis. Cytochrome P450-modified bacterial terpenoids remain in a vast chemical space to be explored. In the present study, we conducted global genome mining of 223,829 bacterial genomes and identified 2892 bacterial terpenoid biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) with cytochrome P450 genes. Among these, we selected 562 with multiple P450 enzymes, which were further clustered as 355 gene cluster families by sequence similarity analysis. We then chose lev , a BGC from Streptomyces levis MCCC1A01616, for heterologous expression and discovered four new α-amorphene-type sesquiterpenoids, levinoids A-D ( 1 - 4 ). The structures and absolute configurations of these four new compounds were determined by employing extensive NMR analysis, NMR chemical shift calculations with DP4+, and ECD calculations. Furthermore, levinoid C ( 3 ) exhibited a moderate level of neuroprotective activity (EC 50 = 21 μM) in the glutamate-induced excitotoxicity cell model. Our findings highlight the untapped chemical diversity of P450-modified bacterial terpenoids, opening new avenues for further exploration and discovery.

Voltage-gated ion channels prevalent in neurons play important roles in generating action potential and information transmission by responding to transmembrane potential. Fabricating bio-inspired ionic transistors with ions as charge carriers will be crucial for realizing neuro-inspired devices and brain-liking computing. Here, we reported a two-dimensional nanofluidic ionic transistor based on a MXene membrane with sub-1 nm interlayer channels. By applying a gating voltage on the MXene nanofluidic, a transmembrane potential will be generated to active the ionic transistor, which is similar to the transmembrane potential of neuron cells and can be effectively regulated by changing membrane parameters, e.g., thickness, composition, and interlayer spacing. For the symmetric MXene nanofluidic, a high on/off ratio of ~2000 can be achieved by forming an ionic depletion or accumulation zone, contingent on the sign of the gating potential. An asymmetric PET/MXene-composited nanofluidic transitioned the ionic transistor from ambipolar to unipolar, resulting in a more sensitive gate voltage characteristic with a low subthreshold swing of 560 mV/decade. Furthermore, ionic logic gate circuits, including the "NOT", "NAND", and "NOR" gate, were implemented for neuromorphic signal processing successfully, which provides a promising pathway towards highly parallel, low energy consumption, and ion-based brain-like computing., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

To provide a theoretical basis for the frozen storage of potato-oat composite dough and its products, this investigation examines changes in the quality of potato-oat composite dough and its resulting product during freeze-thaw cycles. The study measured key aspects such as moisture content, dynamic rheological properties, water state, protein secondary structure, color, and sensory assessment. The influence of these factors on the product's quality is analyzed. The findings revealed that the freeze-thaw treatment caused a reduction in water content, freezable water, and deeply bound water, as well as an increase in weakly bound water, β-sheet, random coil, and α-helix, and a decreased β-turn of the potato-oat composite dough. Additionally, the dough treated by freeze-thaw cycles resulted in darker color, and the sensory properties of the product were affected significantly after exceeding three freeze-thaw cycles. Moreover, an increase in the number of freeze-thaw cycles resulted in an upward trend of moisture content for the composite dough, whereas G ' initially increased and then decreased. The G ″ of the composite dough peaked after the third freeze-thaw cycle. Overall, the composite dough quality significantly deteriorated at the fourth freeze-thaw cycle. There was a significant increase in the freezable water content, the largest modulus of elasticity, and the smallest tan δ. The development of stealth devices that are compatible with both infrared (IR) and radar systems remains a significant challenge, as the material properties required for effective IR and radar stealth are often contradictory. In this work, based on an IR electrochromic device (IR-ECD), concepts of metamaterial manipulating electromagnetic waves are applied to develop a multifunctional ultrathin metasurface with a low radar cross section (RCS) and variable infrared emissivity. This paper presents a linear-to-linear polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) designed by hollowing the IR-ECD. In this way, the IR-ECD based on polyaniline (PANI) can also modulate the reflection waves in the microwave band without affecting its features in the infrared region. Thus, the proposed metasurface integrates both microwave stealth and variable infrared emissivity through a single layer. The measured results show that a 10 dB RCS reduction is achieved in the band of 8.46-9.5 GHz, and the infrared emissivity can be adjusted from 0.870 to 0.513 in the infrared stealth band of 8-14 μm. Due to the ultrathin thickness (only 0.081λ 0 at 9 GHz), low RCS in the X-band, and variable infrared emissivity, the designed multifunctional stealth metasurface has promising applications on military platforms with various surrounding environments.

Background: The current study introduces a novel infrared-assisted spouted bed drying technique for the dehydration of green soybeans, which aims to enhance the drying quality and efficiency. The investigation involves an examination of the flow pattern in the spouted bed to obtain relevant data, followed by an optimization of the entire drying process. The drying process of green soybeans was simulated using SolidWorks and ANSYS Fluent software, based on the principles of computational fluid dynamics., Results: The simulation test results showed that the simulation outcomes were consistent with the experimental data. The diagnosis and evaluation of traumatic brain injury (TBI) are crucial steps toward the treatment and prognosis of patients. A common question remains as to whether it is possible to introduce an ideal device for signal detection and evaluation that can directly connect digital signals with TBI, thereby enabling prompt response of the evaluation signal and sensitive and specific functioning of the detection process. Herein, a method is presented utilizing polymetric porous membranes with TRTK-12 peptide-modified nanochannels for the detection of S100B (a TBI biomarker) and assessment of TBI severity. The method leverages the specific bonding force between TRTK-12 peptide and S100B protein, along with the nanoconfinement effect of nanochannels, to achieve high sensitivity (LOD: 0.002 ng mL -1 ) and specificity (∆I/I 0 : 44.7%), utilizing ionic current change as an indicator. The proposed method, which is both sensitive and specific, offers a simple yet responsive approach for real-time evaluation of TBI severity. Ischemic stroke is one of the leading causes of global mortality and disability. Nevertheless, successful treatment remains limited. In this study, we investigated the efficacy and the mechanism of miR-96-5p in protecting acute ischemic brain injury in adult mice. Focal cerebral ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in adult male C57BL/6 mice. MiR-96-5p or the negative control was administered via intracerebroventricular injection. The expression of pyroptosis-related genes and activation of various resident cells in the brain was assessed by RT-qPCR, western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. Modified neurological severity score, rotarod test, cylinder test, brain water content, and cerebral infarction volume were used to evaluate the behavioral deficits and the severity of brain injury after MCAO. Flow cytometry, TUNEL staining, and Nissl staining were employed to assess the neuron damage. MiR-96-5p decreased markedly in the ischemic stroke model in vivo and in vitro. MiR-96-5p mimics suppressed the expression of caspase 1 and alleviated the apoptosis rate in OGD/R treatment N2a cells, however, the miR-96-5p inhibitor caused the opposite results. Intracerebroventricular delivery of miR-96-5p agomir significantly mitigated behavioral deficits, brain water content, and cerebral infarction volume after MCAO. In addition, treatment with miR-96-5p agomir downregulated the expression of caspase 1/cleaved caspase 1 and Gsdmd/Gsdmd-N, while alleviating the neuron damage. The voltage-gated ion channels, also known as ionic transistors, play substantial roles in biological systems and ion-ion selective separation. However, implementing the ultrafast switchable capabilities and polarity switching of ionic transistors remains a challenge. Here, we report a nanofluidic ionic transistor based on carbon nanotubes, which exhibits an on/off ratio of 10 4 at operational gate voltage as low as 1 V. By controlling the morphology of carbon nanotubes, both unipolar and ambipolar ionic transistors are realized, and their on/off ratio can be further improved by introducing an Al 2 O 3 dielectric layer. Meanwhile, this ionic transistor enables the polarity switching between p-type and n-type by controlled surface properties of carbon nanotubes. The implementation of constructing ionic circuits based on ionic transistors is demonstrated, which enables the creation of NOT, NAND, and NOR logic gates. The ionic transistors are expected to have profound implications for low-energy consumption computing devices and brain-machine interfacing.

Ferroptosis is an emerging type of regulated cell death usually accompanied by the accumulation of ferrous ions (Fe 2+ ) and lipid peroxides. As the metabolic hub of the body, the liver is crucial for iron storage and lipid metabolism. The liver seems to be closely related to ferroptosis through iron and lipid metabolism. Liver disease greatly threatens host health, and exploring effective interventions is essential. Mounting studies have demonstrated that ferroptosis is one of the possible pathogenic mechanisms involved in liver disease. Targeting ferroptosis may provide a promising opportunity for treating liver disease. However, drugs targeting ferroptosis are extremely limited. Therefore, it is an urgent need to develop new and safe ferroptosis regulators. Natural active compounds (NAC), especially those derived from traditional Chinese medicine, have recently shown great therapeutic potential in liver disease via modulating ferroptosis-related genes or pathways. Here, we outline the molecular mechanism of ferroptosis and systematically summarize the regulatory function of NAC on ferroptosis in liver disease. Finally, we discuss the application prospects and potential problems concerning NAC as ferroptosis regulators for managing liver disease.

The edible rose (Rosa Crimson Glory) petals were dried using infrared-assisted spouted bed drying technology. The effects of different drying temperature conditions (30, 35, 40, 45, and 50°C, as well as stepped heating drying [SHD] and stepped cooling drying) on the drying characteristics, physicochemical properties, antioxidant capacity, and changes in volatile flavor compounds of the rose petals were investigated. The results showed that the drying time was shortened with increasing drying temperature. Both variable temperature drying processes gave the shortest drying times. Optimal color retention of rose petals was achieved at a constant temperature of 40°C and SHD. Increased drying temperature resulted in higher water-soluble polysaccharide content in the dried rose petals, whereas lower temperatures facilitated anthocyanin preservation. The variable temperature drying processes favored the retention of water-soluble polysaccharides in rose petals, but not anthocyanins. Regarding antioxidant capacity, the samples dried at 40°C and those subjected to the two variable temperature drying processes performed better. This study also analyzed the differences in volatile flavor compounds of rose petals dried under different drying conditions. It was found that the majority of volatile flavor compounds in the rose petals dried by SHD exhibited higher content levels than the other drying conditions. Therefore, considering a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors, it was clear that utilizing the SHD process was the most efficient method for obtaining the best quality rose petals overall., (© 2024 Institute of Food Technologists.)

The acquisition of high quality lyophilized IgY products, characterized by an aesthetically pleasing visage, heightened stability, and a marked preservation of activity, constitutes an indispensable pursuit in augmenting the safety and pragmatic utility of IgY. Within this context, an exploration was undertaken to investigate an innovative modality encompassing microwave freeze-drying (MFD) as a preparatory methodology of IgY. Morphological assessments revealed that both cryogenic freezing and subsequent MFD procedures resulted in aggregation of IgY, with the deleterious influence posed by the MFD phase transcending that of the freezing phase. The composite protective agent comprised of trehalose and mannitol engendered a safeguarding effect on the structural integrity of IgY, thereby attenuating reducing aggregation between IgY during the freeze-drying process. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) outcomes demonstrated a discernible correlation between IgY aggregation and a notable reduction in its binding affinity towards the pertinent antigen. Biological voltage-gated ion channels, which behave as life's transistors, regulate ion transport precisely and selectively through atomic-scale selectivity filters to sustain important life activities. By this inspiration, voltage-adaptable ionic transistors that use ions as signal carriers may provide an alternative information processing unit beyond solid-state electronic devices. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the first generation of biomimetic ionic transistors, including their operating mechanisms, device architecture development, and property characterizations. Despite its infancy, significant progress has been made in the applications of ionic transistors in fields such as DNA detection, drug delivery, and ionic circuits. Challenges and prospects of full exploitation of ionic transistors for a broad spectrum of practical applications are also discussed.

Whey protein isolates (WPIs) were treated at 50, 60, 70, and 80°C to obtain thermally modified WPI. Gum arabic (GA) and thermal modification of WPI were used as novel wall materials to improve the quality of Cornus officinalis flavonoid (COF) microcapsules using microwave freeze-drying technique in this study. Results showed that all the thermal modification treatment decreased emulsifying activity index of WPI, whereas the solubility and emulsifying stability index (ESI) of WPI gradually increased with the increase of heating temperature. Compared to the untreated protein, the thermal modification treatment at 70°C increased the solubility and ESI of WPI by 14.91% ± 0.71% and 26.70% ± 0.94%, respectively. The microcapsules prepared with the modified protein at 60°C had the highest encapsulation efficiency (95.13% ± 2.36%), the lowest moisture content (1.42% ± 0.34%), and the highest solubility (84.41% ± 0.91). Scanning electron microscopy images showed that COF microcapsules were uniformly spherical, and the sizes of the microcapsules were in the following order: 12.42 ± 0.37 µm (80°C) > 11.7 ± 0.23 µm (untreated group) > 9.44 ± 0.33 µm (60°C) > 9.24 ± 0.14 µm (50°C) > 7.69 ± 0.29 µm (70°C). In the simulated in vitro digestion experiments, the release rate of COF microcapsules in the gastric digestion phase was less than that in the intestinal digestion phase, and it reached 66.46% at intestinal digestion phase. Excitability of hippocampal neurons in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) rats has not been well studied. The rat SAH model was applied in this study to explore the role of nuclear factor E2-related factor (Nrf-2) in the early brain injury of SAH. The neural excitability of CA1 pyramidal cells (PCs) in SAH rats was evaluated by using electrophysiology experiments. Ferroptosis and neuroinflammation were measured by ELISA, transmission electron microscopy and western blotting. Our results indicated that SAH induced neurological deficits, brain edema, ferroptosis, neuroinflammation and neural excitability in rats. Ferrostatin-1 treatment significantly decreased the expression and distribution of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, TGF-β and TNF-α. Inhibiting ferroptosis by ferrostatin-1 can attenuate neural excitability, neurological deficits, brain edema and neuroinflammation in SAH rats. Inhibiting the expression of Nrf-2 significantly increased the neural excitability and the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, TGF-β and TNF-α in Fer-1-treated SAH rats. Taken together, inhibiting the Nrf-2 induces early brain injury, brain edema and the inflammatory response with increasing of neural excitability in Fer-1-treated SAH rats. It is essential to understand to what extent the protected edge states of topological insulators (TIs) can survive against the degradation of the ubiquitous disorders in realistic devices. From a different perspective, disorders can also help to enrich the applications by modulation of the phases in TIs. In this work, the phases and phase transitions in stanene, a two-dimensional TI, have been investigated via the statistical approach based on the random matrix theory. Using a tight binding model with Aderson disorder term and the Landauer-Büttiker formalism, we calculated the conductance of realistic stanene ribbons of tens of nanometers long with random disorders. The calculated phase diagram presents TI in the gap, metal in high energy and ordinary insulator in large disorder region. Increasing the width of the ribbon can significantly enhance the robustness of TI phase against disorders. Due to different underlying symmetries, the metallic phase can be further categorized into unitary and orthogonal classes according to the calculated universal conductance fluctuations. The local density of states is calculated, showing characteristic patterns, which can facilitate the experimental identification of the phases. It is found that different phases have distinguishing statistical distribution of conductance. Whereas at the phase boundary the distribution exhibits intermediate features to show where the phase transition occurs. To reveal the phase evolution process, we further studied the effects of the disorders on respective transmission channels. Lactobacillus plantarum is a kind of probiotic that benefits the host by regulating the gut microbiota, but it is easily damaged when passing through the gastrointestinal tract, hindering its ability to reach the destination and reducing its utilization value. Encapsulation is a promising strategy for solving this problem. In this study, transglutaminase (TGase)-crosslinked gelatin (GE)/sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) hydrogels were used to encapsulate L. plantarum . The effects of TGase concentration and drying method on the physiochemical properties of the hydrogels were determined. The results showed that at a TGase concentration of 9 U/gGE, the hardness, chewiness, energy storage modulus, and apparent viscosity of the hydrogel encapsulation system were maximized. This concentration produced more high-energy isopeptide bonds, strengthening the interactions between molecules, forming a more stable three-dimensional network structure. The survival rate under the simulated gastrointestinal conditions and storage stability of L. plantarum were improved at this concentration. The thermal stability of the encapsulation system dried via microwave vacuum freeze drying (MFD) was slightly higher than that when dried via freeze drying (FD). The gel structure was more stable, and the activity of L. plantarum decreased more slowly during the storage period when dried using MFD. This research provides a theoretical basis for the development of encapsulation technology of probiotics.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of the covalent binding of flaxseed protein (FP) and chlorogenic acid (CA) on the structure and functional properties of FP-CA complexes fabricated using the alkali method. The results suggested that the encapsulation efficiency of CA encapsulated by FP ranged from 66.11% to 72.20% and the loading capacity of CA increased with an increasing addition ratio of CA with a dose-dependent relationship, which increased from 2.34% to 10.19%. The particle size, turbidity, zeta potential and PDI of FP and the FP-CA complexes had no significant discrepancy. UV-Vis and fluorescence spectra showed the existence of the interaction between FP and CA. SEM images showed that the surface of the FP-0.35%CA complex had more wrinkles compared to FP. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis indicated the decomposition temperature of FP at 198 °C was higher than that (197 °C) of the FP-0.35%CA complex, implying that the stability of the FP-CA complexes was lower than FP. The functional properties suggested that the FP-CA complex with 1.40% CA had a higher water holding capacity (500.81%), lower oil holding capacity (273.495%) and lower surface hydrophobicity. Moreover, the FP-CA complexes had better antioxidant activities than that of FP. Therefore, this study provides more insights for the potential application of FP-CA covalent complexes in functional food processing.

Previous research on tissue-engineered blood vessels (TEBVs) has mainly focused on the intima or adventitia unilaterally, neglecting the equal importance of both layers. Meanwhile, the efficacy of grafts modified with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) merely has been limited. Here, we developed a small-diameter graft that can gradually release VEGF and γ secretase inhibitor IX (DAPT) to enhance tissue regeneration and remodeling in both the intima and adventitia. In vitro , experiments revealed that the combination of VEGF and DAPT had superior pro-proliferation and pro-migration effects on endothelial cells. In vivo , the sustained release of VEGF and DAPT from the grafts resulted in improved regeneration and remodeling. Specifically, in the intima, faster endothelialization and regeneration of smooth muscle cells led to higher patency rates and better remodeling. In the adventitia, a higher density of neovascularization, M2 macrophages and fibroblasts promoted cellular ingrowth and replacement of the implant with autologous neo-tissue. Furthermore, western blot analysis confirmed that the regenerated ECs were functional and the effect of DAPT was associated with increased expression of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2. Our study demonstrated that the sustained release of VEGF and DAPT from the graft can effectively promote tissue regeneration and remodeling in both the intima and adventitia. Background: Global warming leading to heat stress (HS) is becoming a major challenge for broiler production. This study aimed to explore the protective effects of seaweed (Enteromorpha prolifera) polysaccharides (EPS) on the intestinal barrier function, microbial ecology, and performance of broilers under HS. A total of 144 yellow-feathered broilers (male, 56 days old) with 682.59 ± 7.38 g were randomly assigned to 3 groups: 1) TN (thermal neutral zone, 23.6 ± 1.8 °C), 2) HS (heat stress, 33.2 ± 1.5 °C for 10 h/d), and 3) HSE (HS + 0.1% EPS). Each group contained 6 replicates with 8 broilers per replicate. The study was conducted for 4 weeks; feed intake and body weights were measured at the end of weeks 2 and 4. At the end of the feeding trial, small intestine samples were collected for histomorphology, antioxidant, secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) content, apoptosis, gene and protein expression analysis; cecal contents were also collected for microbiota analysis based on 16S rDNA sequencing., Results: Dietary EPS promoted the average daily gain (ADG) of broilers during 3-4 weeks of HS (P < 0.05). At the end of HS on broilers, the activity of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and the content of sIgA in jejunum were improved by EPS supplementation (P < 0.05). Besides, dietary EPS reduced the epithelial cell apoptosis of jejunum and ileum in heat-stressed broilers (P < 0.05). Addition of EPS in HS group broilers' diet upregulated the relative mRNA expression of Occludin, ZO-1, γ-GCLc and IL-10 of the jejunum (P < 0.05), whereas downregulated the relative mRNA expression of NF-κB p65, TNF-α and IL-1β of the jejunum (P < 0.05). Dietary EPS increased the protein expression of Occludin and ZO-1, whereas it reduced the protein expression of NF-κB p65 and MLCK (P < 0.01) and tended to decrease the protein expression of TNF-α (P = 0.094) in heat-stressed broilers. Furthermore, the proportions of Bacteroides and Oscillospira among the three groups were positively associated with jejunal apoptosis and pro-inflammatory cytokine expression (P < 0.05) and negatively correlated with jejunal Occludin level (P < 0.05). However, the proportions of Lactobacillus, Barnesiella, Subdoligranulum, Megasphaera, Collinsella, and Blautia among the three groups were positively related to ADG (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: EPS can be used as a feed additive in yellow-feathered broilers. It effectively improves growth performance and alleviates HS-induced intestinal injury by relieving inflammatory damage and improving the tight junction proteins expression. Risley-prism-based image sensors can expand the imaging field of view through beam control. The larger the top angle of the prism, the higher the magnification of the field of view, but at the same time, it aggravates the problem of imaging aberrations, which also puts higher requirements on the aberration correction method for the Risley-prism-based image sensor. To improve the speed, accuracy, and stability of the aberration correction process, an automatic calibration method for the Risley-prism-based image sensor is proposed based on a two-axis turntable. The image datasets of the calibration plate with different prism rotation angles and object distances are acquired using a two-axis turntable. Then, the images of the calibration plate are pre-processed using the bicubic interpolation algorithm. The calibration parameters are finally calculated, and parameter optimization is performed. The experimental results verify the feasibility of this automated calibration method. The reprojection error of the calibration is within 0.26 pixels when the distance of the imaging sensor is 3.6 m from the object, and the fine aberration correction results are observed.

Background: Previous studies have reported that transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation can significantly decrease the time to emergence from intraperitoneal ketamine-xylazine anaesthesia in rats. However, how transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation modulates neural activity in anaesthetized rats is unclear., Methods: In this study, to answer this question, we used low-intensity transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) to stimulate the brain tissue of propofol-anaesthetized mice, recorded local field potentials (LFPs) in the mouse motor cortex and electromyography (EMG) signals from the mouse neck, and analysed the emergence and recovery time, mean absolute power, relative power and entropy of local field potentials., Results: We found that the time to emergence from anaesthesia in the TUS group (20.3 ± 1.7 min) was significantly less than that in the Sham group (32 ± 2.6 min). We also found that compared with the Sham group, 20 min after low-intensity TUS during recovery from anaesthesia, (1) the absolute power of local field potentials in mice was significantly reduced in the [1-4 Hz] and [13-30 Hz] frequency bands and significantly increased in the [55-100 Hz], [100-140 Hz] and [140-200 Hz] frequency bands; (2) the relative power of local field potentials in mice was enhanced at [30-45 Hz], [100-140 Hz] and [140-200 Hz] frequency bands; (3) the entropy of local field potentials ([1-200 Hz]) was increased., Conclusion: These results demonstrate that low-intensity TUS can effectively modulate neural activities in both awake and anaesthetized mice and has a positive effect on recovery from propofol anaesthesia in mice., (© 2023. An efficient and stereoretentive copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of glycosyl thiosulfonate and boronic acid for the construction of thioglycosides is described. The good functional group compatibility of this method allows the preparation of many bioactive aryl/alkenyl thioglycosides, including the hSGLT1 inhibitor.

A series of thin film composite (TFC) membranes was prepared with piperazine (PIP) and m -phenylenediamine (MPD) in different ratios, and the magnesium-lithium separation performance of TFC membranes in salt-lake brine with the magnesium-lithium ratio of 28 were systematically compared. The prepared TFC membranes exhibited high rejection of magnesium ions and negative rejection of lithium ions with high water flux, enabling high magnesium-lithium separation efficiency. The characterisation using FTIR spectroscopy, XPS, zeta potential measurements, and SEM techniques indicated that the composition and surface morphology of the membrane prepared with dual aqueous monomers were found to be different from those prepared with single aqueous monomers under the similar conditions. The application of flexible indium tin oxide (ITO-free) electrochromic devices has steadily attracted widespread attention in wearable devices. Recently, silver nanowire/poly(dimethylsiloxane) (AgNW/PDMS)-based stretchable conductive films have raised great interest as ITO-free substrate for flexible electrochromic devices. However, it is still difficult to achieve high transparency with low resistance due to the weak binding force between AgNW and PDMS with low surface energy because of the possibility of detaching and sliding occurring at the interface. Herein, we propose a method to pattern the pre-cured PDMS (PT-PDMS) by stainless steel film as a template through constructed micron grooves and embedded structure, to prepare a stretchable AgNW/PT-PDMS electrode with high transparency and high conductivity. The stretchable AgNW/PT-PDMS electrode can be stretched (5000 cycles), twisted, and surface friction (3M tape for 500 cycles) without significant loss of conductivity (ΔR/R ≈ 16% and 27%). In addition, with the increase of stretch (stretching to 10-80%), the AgNW/PT-PDMS electrode transmittance increased, and the conductivity increased at first and then decreased. It is possible that the AgNWs in the micron grooves are spread during PDMS stretching, resulting in a larger spreading area and higher transmittance of the AgNWs film; at the same time, the nanowires between the grooves come into contact, thus increasing conductivity. An electrochromic electrode constructed with the stretchable AgNW/PT-PDMS exhibited excellent electrochromic behavior (transmittance contrast from ~61% to ~57%) even after 10,000 bending cycles or 500 stretching cycles, indicating high stability and mechanical robustness. Notably, this method of preparing transparent stretch electrodes based on patterned PDMS provides a promising solution for developing electronic devices with unique structures and high performance.

Rapid endothelialization is extremely essential for the success of small-diameter tissue-engineered vascular graft (TEVG) (<6 mm) transplantation. However, severe inflammation in situ often causes cellular energy decline of endothelial cells. The cellular energy supply involved in vascular graft therapy remains unclear, and whether promoting energy supply would be helpful in the regeneration of vascular grafts needs to be established. In our work, we generated an AMPK activator (5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide, AICAR) immobilized vascular graft. AICAR-modified vascular grafts were successfully generated by the co-electrospinning technique. In vitro results indicated that AICAR could upregulate energy supply in endothelial cells and reprogram macrophages (MΦ) to assume an anti-inflammatory phenotype. Furthermore, endothelial cells (ECs) co-cultured with AICAR achieved higher survival rates, better migration, and angiogenic capacity than the controls. Concurrently, a rabbit carotid artery transplantation model was used to investigate AICAR-modified vascular grafts at different time points. The results showed that AICAR-modified vascular grafts had higher patency rates (92.9% and 85.7% at 6 and 12 weeks, respectively) than those of the untreated group (11.1% and 0%). In conclusion, AICAR strengthened the cellular energy state and attenuated the adverse effects of inflammation. AICAR-modified vascular grafts achieved better vascular remodeling. This study provides a new perspective on promoting the regeneration of small-diameter vascular grafts.

Background: Infrared-assisted spouted bed drying (IRSBD) is an innovative hybrid drying technology based on infrared drying and spouted bed drying, which has the advantages of higher drying efficiency and better uniformity. Temperature is an important process parameter that affects drying characteristics and product quality. Considering the overall quality of the product, drying at a constant temperature may not be the best solution. However, there is a lack of research on dynamically varying drying schemes. In this study, the effects of constant and variable temperature drying processes on the drying characteristics, uniformity, energy consumption, and quality of Chinese yams were evaluated., Results: The shortest drying time and lowest energy consumption were obtained by IRSBD at 70 °C, followed by staged rising temperature drying (SRTD). However, SRTD achieved the best drying uniformity. The Peleg model could describe the dehydration kinetics of dried yams well (R 2  > 0.99). A high drying temperature (70 °C) favored the preservation of bioactive compounds (polyphenols and flavonoids) and gave the best antioxidant activity and equilibrium rehydration ratio of dried yams but resulted in poor color. Samples dried with SRTD showed comparable good antioxidant activity and better color than those dried at 70 °C., Conclusion: A reasonable variable temperature drying scheme using IRSBD is considered to be better when considering the drying performance and overall quality of the products. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry., (© 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.)

Sensors have been used in various agricultural production scenarios due to significant advances in the Agricultural Internet of Things (Ag-IoT), leading to smart agriculture. Intelligent control or monitoring systems rely heavily on trustworthy sensor systems. Nonetheless, sensor failures are likely due to various factors, including key equipment malfunction or human error. A faulty sensor can produce corrupted measurements, resulting in incorrect decisions. Early detection of potential faults is crucial, and fault diagnosis techniques have been proposed. The purpose of sensor fault diagnosis is to detect faulty data in the sensor and recover or isolate the faulty sensors so that the sensor can finally provide correct data to the user. Current fault diagnosis technologies are based mainly on statistical models, artificial intelligence, deep learning, etc. The further development of fault diagnosis technology is also conducive to reducing the loss caused by sensor failures.

Several deep learning partial discharge (PD) diagnostic approaches have been developed in recent years to guarantee the security and stability of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). The centralized training method requires multiple clients to jointly obtain as much data as possible to train the model to achieve excellent performance, which is impractical due to conflicts of interest and privacy protection. Furthermore, because of differences in the distribution of client data and the presence of a small sample, achieving high-precision and robust diagnosis for each client is an urgent problem. To that end, a novel personalized federated meta-learning (FML) is proposed in this paper to address the aforementioned issues. It develops reliable and personalized PD diagnosis models by collaborating with multiple clients and solves the problem of small sample diagnosis through scenario training under the premise of protecting data privacy. The experimental results show that the FML proposed can diagnose GIS PD with high precision and robustness for each client while maintaining privacy. The diagnostic accuracy of the FML proposed in this paper, especially for on-site unbalanced small sample clients, is 93.07%, which is significantly higher than that for other methods. It serves as a model for the collaborative development of an effective GIS PD diagnostic model.

Fungi are ubiquitous in distribution and are found in grasses to hot springs. Their mode of nutrition provides sustenance for living and propagation. Ironically, varied fungal species have developed customized strategies for protection and survival by producing diverse secondary metabolites. The review aimed to project the contrasting potential features of the endophytic and thermophilic fungi groups. The metabolites and the enzymes of endophytic and thermophilic fungi served as the backbone to thrive and adapt within-host and in extreme conditions like higher pH, heat, and salinity, respectively. Identification, knowledge of their biochemistry and pathway, exploration, production, and utilization of these bioactive molecules in various commercial, industrial, and pharmaceutical domains were briefly discussed. The uniqueness of endophytes includes stress management and improved biomass production of the host, green fuel production, omnipresence, selected triple-symbiosis with the virus, synthesis of polyketides, and other active metabolites are widely used in biomedical applications and agriculture management. This review attempted to limelight the specific applications of thermophilic fungal metabolites and the roles of thermo-stable enzymes in bioprospecting. Vascular transplantation has become an ideal substitute for heart and peripheral vascular bypass therapy and tissue-engineered vascular grafts (TEVGs) present an attractive potential solution for vascular surgery. However, small diameter (Ф < 6 mm) vascular do not have ideal TEVGs for clinical use. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a key source of bioactive molecules, has been confirmed to promote tissue repair and regeneration. In this study, we prepared PRP-loaded TEVGs (PRP-TEVGs) by electrospinning, investigated the characterization of TEVGs, and verified the effect of PRP-TEVGs in vivo and in vitro experiments. The results suggested that PRP-TEVGs had good biocompatibility, released growth factors stably, promoted cell proliferation and migration significantly, up-regulated the expression of endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) in functional vascular endothelial cells (VECs), and maintained the stability of the endothelial structure. In vivo experiments suggest that PRP can promote rapid endothelialization and reconstruction of TEVGs. Advanced ready-to-eat foods, which can be consumed directly or only need simple processed before consumption, refer to the products that processing with cutting-edge food science and technology and have better quality attribute. Cold chain and chemical addition are commonly used options to ensure microbial safety of high moisture advanced ready-to-eat foods. However, this requires freezing/thawing processing at high cost or has undesirable residue. Dehydration treatment has the potential to compensate those shortcomings. This article reviewed the positive effects of dehydration on advanced ready-to-eat foods, current application status of dehydration technologies, novel dehydration related technologies and the pathogenic bacteria control of products. It is observed that dehydration treatment is receiving increasing attention for ready-to-eat foods including space foods, 3 D-printed personalized foods and formula foods for special medical purposes. Recently developed drying technologies such as pulsed spouted microwave freeze-drying and infrared freeze-drying have attracted much interest due to their excellent drying characteristics. Finally, intelligent drying, dehydration-nano-hybridization and dehydration-induced multi-dimensional modification technology are some of the emerging R and D areas in this field.

Background and Aims: The vital metabolic signatures for IA risk stratification and its potential biological underpinnings remain elusive. Our study aimed to develop an early diagnosis model and rupture classification model by analyzing plasma metabolic profiles of IA patients., Materials and Methods: Plasma samples from a cohort of 105 participants, including 75 IA patients in unruptured and ruptured status (UIA, RIA) and 30 control participants were collected for comprehensive metabolic evaluation using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based pseudotargeted metabolomics method. Furthermore, an integrated machine learning strategy based on LASSO, random forest and logistic regression were used for feature selection and model construction., Results: The metabolic profiling disturbed significantly in UIA and RIA patients. Notably, adenosine content was significantly downregulated in UIA, and various glycine-conjugated secondary bile acids were decreased in RIA patients. Enriched KEGG pathways included glutathione metabolism and bile acid metabolism. Two sets of biomarker panels were defined to discriminate IA and its rupture with the area under receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.843 and 0.929 on the validation sets, respectively., Conclusions: The present study could contribute to a better understanding of IA etiopathogenesis and facilitate discovery of new therapeutic targets.
