Probiotics and synbiotics can mitigate the negative health consequences of early-life antibiotic exposure. This study aimed to determine whether supplementation with Bifidobacterium longum ssp. infantis 79 (B79) or synbiotics composed of B79 and 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL) could mitigate the negative impact of ceftriaxone exposure in early-life. We found that antibiotic-treated mice exhibited lower body weight, crypt depth, short-chain fatty acid content, and α-diversity indices at weaning, while they increased the relative abundance of opportunistic pathogens (such as Enterococcus and Staphylococcus) and decreased the relative abundance of intestinal commensal bacteria. Supplementation with B79 and 2'-FL revived these antibiotic-induced negative effects and reduced the mRNA expression of IL-6, IL-12p40, and TNF-α in the spleen at weaning. Moreover, B79 and 2'-FL supplementation persistently improved crypt depth, propionic acid synthesis, and IgG and sIgA production and revived the gut microbiota structure and composition in adulthood. In conclusion, our study suggests that early-life supplementation with B79 alone or in combination with 2'-FL can mitigate ceftriaxone-induced negative effects on the gut microbiota and intestinal and immune development of mice, and these improvements can partially last into adulthood., (© 2025, The Authors. Objective : Probiotics have been reported to exert beneficial effects on sleep through the gut-brain axis. Therefore, this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial assessed the effects of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei 207-27 supplementation on sleep quality and its safety and potential mechanisms. Method and study design : Healthy adults under mild stress aged 18-35 years consumed low or high doses of L. paracasei 207-27 or a placebo for 28 days. Fecal samples, blood samples, and questionnaires were collected at the baseline and the end of the intervention. Sleep quality was measured using wearable devices and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) questionnaire. Serum inflammatory markers, corticotropin-releasing hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), cortisol (COR), γ-aminobutyric acid, and 5-hydroxytryptamine levels were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The gut microbiota was analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing and bioinformatics. Short-chain fatty acids levels were detected using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results : Both the low-dose and high-dose groups exhibited significant improvements in wearable device- measured sleep duration compared to the placebo group. The global scores of PSQI in three groups significantly decreased after intervention without statistical difference between groups. At the phylum level, the low-dose group exhibited a higher relative abundance of Bacteroidota and a lower Firmicutes -to- Bacteroidetes ( F / B ) ratio. At the genus level, two treatment groups had higher relative abundance of Bacteroides and Megamonas , alongside lower levels of Escherichia-Shigella . Furthermore, the low-dose group exhibited significant increases in acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, and valeric acid levels, while two treatment groups exhibited a significant decrease in COR levels. Correlation analysis revealed that the increased levels of acetic acid and butyric acid in the low-dose group may be associated with decreased ACTH. Conclusion : L. paracasei 207-27 administration in healthy adults resulted in improvements in gut microbiota community and sleep duration. The mechanisms might involve modulation of the gut microbiota structure to regulate the function of the gut-brain axis, including increases in SCFA levels and decreases in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity. For convenient transmission, omnidirectional images (ODIs) usually follow the equirectangular projection (ERP) format and are low-resolution. To provide better immersive experience, omnidirectional image super resolution (ODISR) is essential. However, ERP ODIs suffer from serious geometric distortion and pixel stretching across latitudes, generating massive redundant information at high latitudes. This characteristic poses a huge challenge for the traditional SR methods, which can only obtain the suboptimal ODISR performance. To address this issue, we propose a novel position attention network (PAN) for ODISR in this paper. Specifically, a two-branch structure is introduced, in which the basic enhancement branch (BE) serves to achieve coarse deep feature enhancement for extracted shallow features. Meanwhile, the position attention enhancement branch (PAE) builds a positional attention mechanism to dynamically adjust the contribution of features at different latitudes in the ERP representation according to their positions and stretching degrees, which achieves the enhancement for the differentiated information, suppresses the redundant information, and modulate the deep features with spatial distortion. Subsequently, the features of two branches are fused effectively to achieve the further refinement and adapt the distortion characteristic of ODIs. After that, we exploit a long-term memory module (LM), promoting information interactions and fusions between the branches to enhance the perception of the distortion, aggregating the prior hierarchical features to keep the long-term memory and boosting the ODISR performance. Domain adaptation person re-identification (Re-ID) is a challenging task, which aims to transfer the knowledge learned from the labeled source domain to the unlabeled target domain. Recently, some clustering-based domain adaptation Re-ID methods have achieved great success. However, these methods ignore the inferior influence on pseudo-label prediction due to the different camera styles. The reliability of the pseudo-label plays a key role in domain adaptation Re-ID, while the different camera styles bring great challenges for pseudo-label prediction. To this end, a novel method is proposed, which bridges the gap of different cameras and extracts more discriminative features from an image. Specifically, an intra-to-intermechanism is introduced, in which samples from their own cameras are first grouped and then aligned at the class level across different cameras followed by our logical relation inference (LRI). Thanks to these strategies, the logical relationship between simple classes and hard classes is justified, preventing sample loss caused by discarding the hard samples. Furthermore, we also present a multiview information interaction (MvII) module that takes features of different images from the same pedestrian as patch tokens, obtaining the global consistency of a pedestrian that contributes to the discriminative feature extraction. Unlike the existing clustering-based methods, our method employs a two-stage framework that generates reliable pseudo-labels from the views of the intracamera and intercamera, respectively, to differentiate the camera styles, subsequently increasing its robustness. Extensive experiments on several benchmark datasets show that the proposed method outperforms a wide range of state-of-the-art methods. Purpose: Our study aimed to explore the efficacy of Bifidobacterium breve 207-1 on specific neurotransmitters and hormones and the ability to regulate lifestyle behaviors in healthy adults., Methods: In total, 120 healthy adults with high mental stress, overweight, insomnia, and constipation were randomly assigned to receive low-dose B. breve 207-1 (LD, n = 40), high-dose B. breve 207-1 (HD, n = 40), or placebo (n = 40) for 28 days. Fecal and blood samples were collected and questionnaires were answered before and after the trial. Neurotransmitters and serum hormones were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The gut microbiota composition was assessed using 16 S rRNA sequencing. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) concentrations were determined via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)., Results: The primary outcome of our study was changes in mental wellness, including neurotransmitters, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrena (HPA) axis hormones, and the psychological scales. The results showed that γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) increased significantly and the HPA axis hormones were suppressed overall in the probiotic groups while 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) did not change significantly. However, there was no significant change in mood scale scores. The secondary outcome focused on the ability of 207-1 to regulate the body and lifestyle of healthy adults (e.g., sleep, diet, exercise, etc.). The PSQI scores in the probiotics groups significantly decreased, indicating improved sleep quality. Meanwhile, the probiotic groups had a slight increase in exercise consumption while dietary intake stabilized. By physical examination, the participants showed weight loss although no statistically significant difference was observed between the groups. Then, validated by gut microbiota, changes in the gut microbiota were observed under the effective intervention of 207-1 while short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) increased in the LD group, particularly acetic and propionic acids. There was a slight decrease in alpha-diversity in the HD group., Conclusion: Bifidobacterium breve 207-1 entered the organism and affected neurotransmitter and the HPA axis hormone levels via the microbiome-gut-brain axis. Meanwhile, 207-1 supplementation improved daily lifestyle behaviors in healthy adults, which may in turn lead to changes in their bodies (e.g. weight and lipid metabolism). However, this study did not find significant mood-modulating efficacy. Purpose: To report the 2-year efficacy and safety of penetrating canaloplasty versus ab externo canaloplasty for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG)., Setting: A single surgical site in China., Design: This was a prospective, randomized controlled trial. POAG patients were randomly assigned to the penetrating canaloplasty or ab externo canaloplasty group., Methods: This study enrolled POAG patients who underwent penetrating canaloplasty or ab externo canaloplasty randomly. Surgical success, intraocular pressure (IOP), number of glaucoma medications, and surgical complications were evaluated until 24 months post-operatively. Surgical success was defined as 6 mmHg ≤ IOP ≤21 mmHg with an IOP reduction ≥20%, which included qualified success (with or without medications) and complete success (without medications)., Results: A total of 52 eyes (45 patients) were randomly assigned to one of two groups: the penetrating canaloplasty group (PCP, n = 26) or the ab externo canaloplasty group (CP, n = 26). The probabilities of qualified success and complete success were 92.3% and 76.9%, respectively, in the PCP group and 64.1% and 52.1%, respectively, in the CP group at 24 months (p = 0.013, p = 0.042, log-rank test). The mean IOP decreased from 30.8 ± 10.7 and 28.6 ± 11.8 mmHg to 14.1 ± 3.3 mmHg in the PCP group and 22.1 ± 13.6 mmHg in the CP group at year two (p = 0.007). The PCP group also received fewer medications (0.2 ± 0.5) than did the CP group (0.7 ± 1.2) at year two (p = 0.038). Post-operative complications were similar, and the most common complications were transient IOP elevation and hyphema in the PCP group (42.3%, 46.2%) and the CP group (38.5%, 23.1%) (p > 0.05)., Conclusions: Compared to ab externo canaloplasty, penetrating canaloplasty had a greater surgical success rate and better IOP reduction with a comparable rate of complications., (© 2024 Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica Foundation. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most frequent primary brain malignancy in adults. Despite improvements in imaging and therapy, the prognosis remains poor. To evaluate and compare the impact of combining bevacizumab with temozolomide and radiotherapy on progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients diagnosed with GBM. A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and The Cochrane Library, covering the period from their inception to December 2022. The collected data underwent analysis employing appropriate statistical methods. Six articles were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The addition of bevacizumab to the combination of temozolomide/radiotherapy did not increase the OS in GBM patients. The pooled odds ratio (OR) was 0.843 (95% CI: 0.615-1.156, P = 0.290). The addition of bevacizumab to radiotherapy/temozolomide did not increase the PFS in patients with GBM. The pooled OR was 0.829 (95% CI: 0.561-1.224, P = 0.346). The funnel plot demonstrated the absence of the alleged pleiotropic effects by showing no evidence of observable variability across the estimations. Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Minichromsome maintenance proteins family member 8 (MCM8) assists DNA repair and DNA replication. MCM8 exerts tumor promotor function in multiple digestive system tumors. MCM8 is also considered as a potential cancer therapeutic target., Methods: Bioinformatics methods were used to analyze MCM8 expression and clinicopathological significance. MCM8 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining and qRT-PCR. MCM8 functions in GC cell were explored by Celigo cell counting, colony formation, wound-healing, transwell, and annexin V-APC staining assays. The target of MCM8 was determined by human gene expression profile microarray. Human phospho-kinase array kit evaluated changes in key proteins after ribosomal protein S15A (RPS15A) knockdown. MCM8 functions were reassessed in xenograft mouse model. IHC detected related proteins expression in mouse tumor sections., Results: MCM8 was significantly upregulated and predicted poor prognosis in GC. High expression of MCM8 was positively correlated with lymph node positive (p < 0.001), grade (p < 0.05), AJCC Stage (p < 0.001), pathologic T (p < 0.01), and pathologic N (p < 0.001). MCM8 knockdown inhibited proliferation, migration, and invasion while promoting apoptosis. RPS15A expression decreased significantly after MCM8 knockdown. It was also the only candidate target, which ranked among the top 10 downregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in sh-MCM8 group. RPS15A was identified as the target of MCM8 in GC. MCM8/RPS15A promoted phosphorylation of P38α, LYN, and p70S6K. Moreover, MCM8 knockdown inhibited tumor growth, RPS15A expression, and phosphorylation of P38α, LYN, and p70S6K in vivo., Conclusions: MCM8 is an oncogene and predicts poor prognosis in GC. Cattle rumination behavior is strongly correlated with its health. Current methods often rely on manual observation or wearable devices to monitor ruminating behavior. However, the manual monitoring of cattle rumination is labor-intensive, and wearable devices often harm animals. Therefore, this study proposes a non-contact method for monitoring cattle rumination behavior, utilizing an improved YOLOv8-pose keypoint detection algorithm combined with multi-condition threshold peak detection to automatically identify chewing counts. First, we tracked and recorded the cattle's rumination behavior to build a dataset. Next, we used the improved model to capture keypoint information on the cattle. By constructing the rumination motion curve from the keypoint information and applying multi-condition threshold peak detection, we counted the chewing instances. Finally, we designed a comprehensive cattle rumination detection framework to track various rumination indicators, including chewing counts, rumination duration, and chewing frequency. In keypoint detection, our modified YOLOv8-pose achieved a 96% mAP, an improvement of 2.8%, with precision and recall increasing by 4.5% and 4.2%, enabling the more accurate capture of keypoint information. For rumination analysis, we tested ten video clips and compared the results with actual data. The experimental results showed an average chewing count error of 5.6% and a standard error of 2.23%, verifying the feasibility and effectiveness of using keypoint detection technology to analyze cattle rumination behavior. These physiological indicators of rumination behavior allow for the quicker detection of abnormalities in cattle's rumination activities, helping managers make informed decisions. Ultimately, the proposed method not only accurately monitors cattle rumination behavior but also provides technical support for precision management in animal husbandry, promoting the development of modern livestock farming.

Artemisinin is primarily synthesized and stored in the subepidermal space of the glandular trichomes of Artemisia annua. The augmentation of trichome density has been demonstrated to enhance artemisinin yield. However, existing literature lacks insights into the correlation between the stratum corneum and trichomes. This study aims to unravel the involvement of TrichomeLess Regulator 3 (TLR3), which encodes the transcription factor, in artemisinin biosynthesis and its potential association with the stratum corneum. TLR3 was identified as a candidate gene through transcriptome analysis. The role of TLR3 in trichome development and morphology was investigated using yeast two-hybrid, pull-down analysis, and RNA electrophoresis mobility assay. Our research revealed that TLR3 negatively regulates trichome development. It modulates the morphology of Arabidopsis thaliana trichomes by inhibiting branching and inducing the formation of abnormal trichomes in Artemisia annua. Overexpression of the TLR3 gene disrupts the arrangement of the stratum corneum and reduces artemisinin content. Simultaneously, TLR3 possesses the capacity to regulate stratum corneum development and trichome follicle morphology by interacting with TRICHOME AND ARTEMISININ REGULATOR 1, and CycTL. Consequently, our findings underscore the pivotal role of TLR3 in the development of glandular trichomes and stratum corneum biosynthesis, thereby influencing the morphology of Artemisia annua trichomes., (© 2024. The low ionic conductivities of aprotic electrolytes hinder the development of extreme fast charging technologies and applications at low temperatures for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we present an electrolyte with LiFSI in acetone (DMK). In DMK electrolytes, the solvation number is three, and solvent-separated ion pairs (SSIPs) are the dominant structure, which is largely different from other linear aprotic electrolytes where salts primarily exist as contact ion pairs (CIPs). With incompact solvation structures due to the weak solvation ability of DMK with Li + , the ionic conductivity reaches 45 mS/cm at room temperature. The percentage of SSIPs increases as temperatures decrease in DMK electrolytes, which is totally different from the carbonate-based electrolytes but greatly beneficial to low-temperature ionic conductivity. With the appropriate addition of VC and FEC, DMK-based electrolytes still exhibit a superhigh ionic conductivity. Even at -40 °C, the ionic conductivity is greater than 10 mS/cm. With DMK-based electrolytes, LIBs with thick LiFePO 4 electrodes can be cycled at high rates and at low temperatures.

Despite the fact that there is a remarkable achievement on multifocus image fusion, most of the existing methods only generate a low-resolution image if the given source images suffer from low resolution. Obviously, a naive strategy is to independently conduct image fusion and image super-resolution. However, this two-step approach would inevitably introduce and enlarge artifacts in the final result if the result from the first step meets artifacts. To address this problem, in this article, we propose a novel method to simultaneously achieve image fusion and super-resolution in one framework, avoiding step-by-step processing of fusion and super-resolution. Since a small receptive field can discriminate the focusing characteristics of pixels in detailed regions, while a large receptive field is more robust to pixels in smooth regions, a subnetwork is first proposed to compute the affinity of features under different types of receptive fields, efficiently increasing the discriminability of focused pixels. Simultaneously, in order to prevent from distortion, a gradient embedding-based super-resolution subnetwork is also proposed, in which the features from the shallow layer, the deep layer, and the gradient map are jointly taken into account, allowing us to get an upsampled image with high resolution. Compared with the existing methods, which implemented fusion and super-resolution independently, our proposed method directly achieves these two tasks in a parallel way, avoiding artifacts caused by the inferior output of image fusion or super-resolution. Experiments conducted on the real-world dataset substantiate the superiority of our proposed method compared with state of the arts.

Objective: To compare the differences in gut microbiome composition between children with good neurodevelopment and those with delayed neurodevelopment, and to analyze the relationship between gut microbiome and the neurodevelopment status of infants in early life., Methods: The mothers were included at the Second West China Hospital from November 2020 to April 2021. Their infant stools were collected on day 0 and day 90 after birth, and the follow-up questionnaires at the corresponding time points were completed. Additionally, the Ages and Stages Questionnaires-Third Edition(ASQ-3) were completed by mothers at 12 months of age. The structure and diversity of gut microbiota were examined by 16S rRNA sequencing, and the relationship between gut microbiome and ASQ-3 questionnaire scores in early life was analyzed., Results: According to the ASQ-3 scores, mothers and infants into neurodevelopment good group(G group, n=18) and neurodevelopmental delay group(D group, n=10). Compared with the D group, the relative abundance of the Firmicutes was significantly higher in the G group at day 0(P&lt;0.05), while the level of the Proteobacteria was lower(P&lt;0.05). At day 90 after birth, the relative abundance of the Actinobacteria, Bifidobacteriaceae and Enterococcaceae was significantly higher in the G group(P&lt;0.05). In addition, alpha diversity was not statistically different between the two groups. Spearman&apos;s correlation analysis showed that Clostridiaceae of the postnatal day 0 infants was positively correlated with the communication domain score, but negatively associated with gross motor domain score in children at 12 months of age, whereas the relative abundance of Proteobacteria and Enterobacteriaceae of children at postnatal day 90 was negatively associated with communication development, while the relative abundance of Erysipelatoclostridiaceae showed a negative correlation with gross motor domain scores., Conclusion: The structure of the gut microbiome in early life between neurodevelopment good and delayed infants, and were associated with the development of communication and gross motor domain in infants at 12 months of age, suggesting that gut microbiome in early life may be related to the level of neurodevelopment in infants.

Quercetin (Quer) is a natural flavonoid known for its inhibitory effects against various cancers. However, the mechanism by which Quer inhibits gastric cancer (GC) has not yet been fully elucidated. Ferroptosis, a mode of programmed cell death resulting from lipid peroxidation, is regulated by abnormalities in the antioxidant system and iron metabolism. Through flow cytometry and other detection methods, we found that Quer elevated lipid peroxidation levels in GC cells. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed an increase in ferroptosis in Quer-induced GC. We demonstrated that Quer inhibits SLC1A5 expression. Molecular docking revealed Quer's binding to SLC1A5 at SER-343, SER-345, ILE-423, and THR-460 residues. Using immunofluorescence and other experiments, we found that Quer altered the intracellular ROS levels, antioxidant system protein expression levels, and iron content. Mechanistically, Quer binds to SLC1A5, inhibiting the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2), resulting in decreased xCT/GPX4 expression. Quer/SLC1A5 signaling activated p-Camk2, leading to upregulated p-DRP1 and enhanced ROS release. Additionally, Quer increased the intracellular iron content by inhibiting SLC1A5. These three changes collectively led to ferroptosis in GC cells. In conclusion, Quer targets SLC1A5 in GC cells, inhibiting the NRF2/xCT pathway, activating the p-Camk2/p-DRP1 pathway, and accelerating iron deposition. Ultimately, Quer promotes ferroptosis in GC cells, inhibiting GC progression. Background: A growing body of research shows that photodynamic therapy (PDT) has become an important mode of treatment in the field of lung cancer (LC) in recent years. Although numerous papers related to PDT in LC have been published, no bibliometric studies have been conducted to summarize the research prospects and highlight the research trends and hotspots in this field. This bibliometric analysis was conducted to investigate and provide a systematic understanding of the development of PDT research for LC over the past 13 years with the aim of providing a reference for new directions and strategies in the field of PDT for LC., Methods: In May 2023, relevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection were downloaded, and CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to conduct the scientometrics analysis in this study. Results: A total of 2,932 articles and reviews that met the inclusion criteria were retrieved, with China dominated the volume of publications from 2010 to 2022 and the most prolific institution was Shanghai Jiao Tong University., Conclusions: PDT can be utilized for the diagnosis and treat LC. Bronchoscopic fluorescence diagnosis using photosensitizers helps to detect tumor changes in the large bronchial mucosa. In the future, we should actively explore the use of new photosensitizers, including the development of nanomaterials, in addition, PDT combined with other treatments can significantly prolong survival. The CAG and CTG trinucleotide repeat expansions cause more than 10 human neurodegenerative diseases. Intrastrand hairpins formed by trinucleotide repeats contribute to repeat expansions, establishing them as potential drug targets. High-resolution structural determination of CAG and CTG hairpins poses as a long-standing goal to aid drug development, yet it has not been realized due to the intrinsic conformational flexibility of repetitive sequences. We herein investigate the solution structures of CTG hairpins using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and found that four CTG repeats with a clamping G-C base pair was able to form a stable hairpin structure. We determine the first solution NMR structure of dG(CTG) 4 C hairpin and decipher a type I folding geometry of the TGCT tetraloop, wherein the two thymine residues form a T·T loop-closing base pair and the first three loop residues continuously stack. We further reveal that the CTG hairpin can be bound and stabilized by a small-molecule ligand, and the binding interferes with replication of a DNA template containing CTG repeats. Our determined high-resolution structures lay an important foundation for studying molecular interactions between native CTG hairpins and ligands, and benefit drug development for trinucleotide repeat expansion diseases.

Caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has shown extensive lung manifestations in vulnerable individuals, putting lung imaging and monitoring at the forefront of early detection and treatment. Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is an imaging modality, which can bring excellent contrast, sensitivity, and signal-to-noise ratios to lung imaging for the development of new theranostic approaches for respiratory diseases. Advances in MPI tracers would offer additional improvements and increase the potential for clinical translation of MPI. Here, a high-performance nanotracer based on shape anisotropy of magnetic nanoparticles is developed and its use in MPI imaging of the lung is demonstrated. Shape anisotropy proves to be a critical parameter for increasing signal intensity and resolution and exceeding those properties of conventional spherical nanoparticles. The 0D nanoparticles exhibit a 2-fold increase, while the 1D nanorods have a > 5-fold increase in signal intensity when compared to VivoTrax. Newly designed 1D nanorods displayed high signal intensities and excellent resolution in lung images. Learned 360° image compression methods using equirectangular projection (ERP) often confront a non-uniform sampling issue, inherent to sphere-to-rectangle projection. While uniformly or nearly uniformly sampling representations, along with their corresponding convolution operations, have been proposed to mitigate this issue, these methods often concentrate solely on uniform sampling rates, thus neglecting the content of the image. In this paper, we urge that different contents within 360° images have varying significance and advocate for the adoption of a content-adaptive parametric representation in 360° image compression, which takes into account both the content and sampling rate. We first introduce the parametric pseudocylindrical representation and corresponding convolution operation, upon which we build a learned 360° image codec. Then, we model the hyperparameter of the representation as the output of a network, derived from the image's content and its spherical coordinates. We treat the optimization of hyperparameters for different 360° images as distinct compression tasks and propose a meta-learning algorithm to jointly optimize the codec and the metaknowledge, i.e., the hyperparameter estimation network. A significant challenge is the lack of a direct derivative from the compression loss to the hyperparameter network. To address this, we present a novel method to relax the rate-distortion loss as a function of the hyperparameters, enabling gradient-based optimization of the metaknowledge. Experimental results on omnidirectional images demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance and superior visual quality.

Background: Lung cancer is the most common cancer in the world and has become one of the malignancies with the highest incidence and mortality; more than half of patients die within one year of being diagnosed with lung cancer. In recent years, the concept of "patient-centered" service has gained popularity, and patients' subjective feelings have gradually been used in clinical decision-making. Artemisinin, which is extracted from the plant Artemisia annua L., is a crucial drug for curing malaria and has potential applications for treating cancer, diabetes, pulmonary tuberculosis, and other conditions. Demand for artemisinin is therefore high, and enhancing its yield is important. Artemisinin dynamics change during the growth cycle of A. annua; however, the regulatory networks underlying these changes are poorly understood. Here, we collected A. annua leaves at different growth stages and identified target genes from transcriptome data. We determined that WRKY6 binds to the promoters of the artemisinin biosynthesis gene artemisinic aldehyde Δ11(13) reductase (DBR2). In agreement, overexpression of WRKY6 in A. annua resulted in higher expression levels of genes in the artemisinin biosynthesis pathway and greater artemisinin contents than in the wild type. When expression of WRKY6 was down-regulated, artemisinin biosynthesis pathway genes were also down-regulated and the content of artemisinin was lower. Severe capacity/voltage fading still poses substantial obstacles in the commercial applications of Li-rich layered oxides, which stems from the aggregation of Li 2 MnO 3 -like domains and unstable surface structure. Here, we report highly stabilized Co-free Li 1.2 Ni 0.2 Mn 0.6 O 2 with uniformly dispersed Li 2 MnO 3 -like domains and a protective rock-salt structure shell by reducing the oxygen partial pressure during high-temperature calcination. Experimental characterizations and DFT calculations reveal that the uniformly dispersed and small-sized Li 2 MnO 3 -like domains suppress the peroxidation of lattice oxygen, enabling highly reversible oxygen redox and excellent structural stability. Moreover, the induced rock-salt structure shell significantly restrains lattice oxygen release, TM dissolution, and interfacial side reactions, thereby improving the interfacial stability and facilitating Li + diffusion. Consequently, the obtained Li 1.2 Ni 0.2 Mn 0.6 O 2 which was calcinated under an oxygen partial pressure of 0.1% (LNMO-0.1) delivers a high reversible capacity of 276.5 mAh g -1 at 0.1 C with superior cycling performance (a capacity retention rate of 85.4% after 300 cycles with a small voltage fading rate of 0.76 mV cycle -1 ) and excellent thermal stability. This work links the synthesis conditions with the domain structure and electrochemical performance of Li-rich cathode materials, providing some insights for designing high-performance Li-rich cathodes.

Background: Abnormal hyaluronic acid (HA) metabolism is a major factor in tumor progression, and the metabolic regulation of HA mainly includes HA biosynthesis and catabolism. In glioma, abnormal HA biosynthesis is intimately involved in glioma malignant biological properties and the formation of immunosuppressive microenvironment; however, the role of abnormal HA catabolism in glioma remains unclear., Methods: HA catabolism is dependent on hyaluronidase. In TCGA and GEPIA databases, we found that among the 6 human hyaluronidases (HYAL1, HYAL2, HYAL3, HYAL4, HYALP1, SPAM1), only HYAL2 expression was highest in glioma. Next, TCGA and CGGA database were further used to explore the correlation of HYAL2 expression with glioma prognosis. Then, the mRNA expression and protein level of HYAL2 was determined by qRT-PCR, Western blot and Immunohistochemical staining in glioma cells and glioma tissues, respectively. The MTT, EdU and Colony formation assay were used to measure the effect of HYAL2 knockdown on glioma. The GSEA enrichment analysis was performed to explore the potential pathway regulated by HYAL2 in glioma, in addition, the HYAL2-regulated signaling pathways were detected by flow cytometry and Western blot. Finally, small molecule compounds targeting HYAL2 in glioma were screened by Cmap analysis., Results: In the present study, we confirmed that Hyaluronidase 2 (HYAL2) is abnormally overexpressed in glioma. Moreover, we found that HYAL2 overexpression is associated with multiple glioma clinical traits and acts as a key indicator for glioma prognosis. Targeting HYAL2 could inhibit glioma progression by inducing glioma cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest., Conclusion: Collectively, these observations suggest that HYAL2 overexpression could promote glioma progression. By analogy with spin waves in ferromagnetic systems, the polarization (or dipole) wave is the electric counterpart that remains elusive. Here, we discover that the helielectricity, i.e. a polarization field with helicoidal helices that corresponds to a quasi-layered chiral nematic environment, causes a spontaneous formation of large-scale polarization waves in the form of the sinusoidal function. Both experimental and theoretical analyses reveal that the polarization ordering over a threshold polarization strength violates the inherent periodicity of the polarization helices, thus penalizing the compression energy. The genus Salvia L. (Lamiaceae) comprises myriad distinct medicinal herbs, with terpenoids as one of their major active chemical groups. Abietane-type diterpenoids (ATDs), such as tanshinones and carnosic acids, are specific to Salvia and exhibit taxonomic chemical diversity among lineages. To elucidate how ATD chemical diversity evolved, we carried out large-scale metabolic and phylogenetic analyses of 71 Salvia species, combined with enzyme function, ancestral sequence and chemical trait reconstruction, and comparative genomics experiments. This integrated approach showed that the lineage-wide ATD diversities in Salvia were induced by differences in the oxidation of the terpenoid skeleton at C-20, which was caused by the functional divergence of the cytochrome P450 subfamily CYP76AK. This study investigated the effects of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei K56 (L. paracasei K56) on body weight, body composition, and glycolipid metabolism in mice with high-fat diet-induced obesity and explored the underlying mechanisms. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks to induce obesity; then, the obese mice were gavaged with or without L. paracasei K56 for 10 weeks. The body weight, body composition, fat mass, blood lipid, blood glucose, and hormones of the mice were evaluated. Moreover, the fatty acid synthesis (FAS) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) expressions in the liver were detected via Western blotting. 16S rRNA gene sequencing was adopted to determine the gut microbiota alterations. The high-fat diet successfully induced obesity, as indicated by the abnormal increase in body weight, visceral fat, fat mass, blood lipids, fasting blood glucose, and insulin-resistance. Moreover, the FAS expression in the liver was significantly increased, whereas the PPAR-γ expression was significantly decreased. The relative abundance of Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria and Patescibacteria was also significantly increased, and that of Verrucomicrobia was significantly decreased. However, these indicators of mice supplemented with L. paracasei K56 were significantly opposite to those of obese mice. The Ruminococcuaceae&#95;UCG-013, Akkermansia, Prevotellaceae&#95;UCG-001, Muribaculum, and Lachnospiraceae&#95;NK4A136 groups were significantly negatively correlated with body weight, blood lipids, and blood glucose-related indicators, whereas Coriobacteriaceae&#95;UCG-002, Enterorhabdus, Raoultibacter, Acinetobacter, Romboutsia, Leuconostoc, and Erysipelatoclostridium were significantly positively correlated with these indicators. L. paracasei K56 might be a promising probiotic strain that could effectively slow down the body weight gain, reduce fat accumulation, alleviate insulin-resistance, and restore pancreatic β-cell function in obese mice by regulating the gut microbiota., (© 2022. The present study aimed to investigate whether gut dysbiosis induced by ceftriaxone in early life could influence pediatric blood pressure regulation in childhood with or without exposure to a high-fat diet (HFD). Sixty-three newborn pups of Sprague-Dawley rats were administered ceftriaxone sodium or saline solution until weaning at 3 weeks, and the rats were fed a HFD or regular diet from 3 to 6 weeks. Tail-cuff blood pressure, the expression levels of genes of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), the concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in the colon and prefrontal cortex, and the composition of fecal microbiota were analyzed. Ceftriaxone treatment significantly increased the diastolic blood pressure of male rats at 3 weeks. At 6 weeks, systolic blood pressure (SBP) was significantly increased only in ceftriaxone treated male rats fed with HFD. The RAS showed increased activation in the kidney, heart, hypothalamus, and thoracic and abdominal aorta of male rats, but only in the kidney, heart, and hypothalamus of female rats. HFD-fed female rats showed a decreased level of IL-6 in the colon. α diversity of gut microbiota decreased and the Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio increased in both male and female rats at 3 weeks; however, these parameters recovered to various degrees in female rats at 6 weeks. These results revealed that early-life gut dysbiosis induced by antibiotics combined with a HFD in childhood could be involved in pediatric blood pressure regulation and an increase in SBP in juvenile rats, and these effects occurred in a sex-dependent manner.

Lithium-rich layered oxides (LRLOs), with the chemical formula of x Li 2 MnO 3 ·(1 - x )LiMO 2 , delivering higher specific discharge capacity, are potential cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. However, the dissolution of transition metal ions and the instability of the cathode-electrolyte interphase (CEI) hinder the commercial application of LRLOs. Herein, a simple and affordable method is developed for the construction of a robust CEI layer by quenching a kind of cobalt-free LRLO, Li 1.2 Ni 0.15 Fe 0.1 Mn 0.55 O 2 (denoted as NFM), in 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ether solvent. This robust CEI, with well-distributed LiF, TMF x , and partial organic component CF x , performs as a physical barrier to prevent NFM from direct contact with the electrolyte, suppresses the oxygen release, and ensures the CEI layer stability. The customized CEI with LiF and TMF x -rich phase considerably enhances the NFM cycle stability and the initial coulomb efficiency and inhibits voltage fading. This work provides a valuable strategy for designing stable interface chemistry on the cathode of lithium-ion batteries.

By relaying neural signals from the motor cortex to muscles, devices for neurorehabilitation can enhance the movement of limbs in which nerves have been damaged as a consequence of injuries affecting the spinal cord or the lower motor neurons. However, conventional neuroprosthetic devices are rigid and power-hungry. Here we report a stretchable neuromorphic implant that restores coordinated and smooth motions in the legs of mice with neurological motor disorders, enabling the animals to kick a ball, walk or run. The neuromorphic implant acts as an artificial efferent nerve by generating electrophysiological signals from excitatory post-synaptic signals and by providing proprioceptive feedback. The device operates at low power (~1/150 that of a typical microprocessor system), and consists of hydrogel electrodes connected to a stretchable transistor incorporating an organic semiconducting nanowire (acting as an artificial synapse), connected via an ion gel to an artificial proprioceptor incorporating a carbon nanotube strain sensor (acting as an artificial muscle spindle). Humans rely increasingly on sensors to address grand challenges and to improve quality of life in the era of digitalization and big data. For ubiquitous sensing, flexible sensors are developed to overcome the limitations of conventional rigid counterparts. Despite rapid advancement in bench-side research over the last decade, the market adoption of flexible sensors remains limited. To ease and to expedite their deployment, here, we identify bottlenecks hindering the maturation of flexible sensors and propose promising solutions. We first analyze challenges in achieving satisfactory sensing performance for real-world applications and then summarize issues in compatible sensor-biology interfaces, followed by brief discussions on powering and connecting sensor networks. Issues en route to commercialization and for sustainable growth of the sector are also analyzed, highlighting environmental concerns and emphasizing nontechnical issues such as business, regulatory, and ethical considerations. Additionally, we look at future intelligent flexible sensors. In proposing a comprehensive roadmap, we hope to steer research efforts towards common goals and to guide coordinated development strategies from disparate communities. Through such collaborative efforts, scientific breakthroughs can be made sooner and capitalized for the betterment of humanity.

The entropy of the codes usually serves as the rate loss in the recent learned lossy image compression methods. Precise estimation of the probabilistic distribution of the codes plays a vital role in reducing the entropy and boosting the joint rate-distortion performance. However, existing deep learning based entropy models generally assume the latent codes are statistically independent or depend on some side information or local context, which fails to take the global similarity within the context into account and thus hinders the accurate entropy estimation. To address this issue, we propose a special nonlocal operation for context modeling by employing the global similarity within the context. Specifically, due to the constraint of context, nonlocal operation is incalculable in context modeling. We exploit the relationship between the code maps produced by deep neural networks and introduce the proxy similarity functions as a workaround. Then, we combine the local and the global context via a nonlocal attention block and employ it in masked convolutional networks for entropy modeling. Taking the consideration that the width of the transforms is essential in training low distortion models, we finally produce a U-net block in the transforms to increase the width with manageable memory consumption and time complexity. Experiments on Kodak and Tecnick datasets demonstrate the priority of the proposed context-based nonlocal attention block in entropy modeling and the U-net block in low distortion situations. On the whole, our model performs favorably against the existing image compression standards and recent deep image compression models.

Purpose: This study was aimed to determine how delivery mode and feeding pattern influence the infant's gut microbiota construction and the variation of fecal microbial metabolites from a birth cohort., Methods: Fecal samples collected from 61 full-term born Chinese infants at four time points: day 0, day 7, month 1, and month 3. Based on delivery mode (vaginal delivery [V] or cesarean section [C]) and feeding pattern (breastfeeding [B] or mixed feeding [M]), infants were divided into four groups, namely VB, CB, VM, and CM groups. The gut microbiota composition and bacterial diversity were assessed using 16S rRNA sequencing. Short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations were determined via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)., Results: The CM group had a significantly higher relative abundance of Firmicutes (day 0 and month 1), Enterococcaceae (month 3), and Enterococcus (month 3) than the VB group and a significantly higher abundance of Firmicutes (month 1) and Blautia (month 3) than the CB group. The VB and CB groups exhibited a stable SCFA variation and a significantly lower level of propionate compared with the VM and CM groups. All groups showed an intense transition of enterotypes within 1 month and became stable at 3 months. The correlation between SCFA and enterotypes showed a significant positive correlation between Bifidobacteriaceae and acetate in the CB group (day 7 and month 3) and a significant positive correlation between Clostridiaceae and butyrate in the CB and VB groups (day 7 and month 3), respectively., Conclusion: These results indicated that C-section was associated with higher abundance of the phylum Firmicutes and family Enterococcaceae, and intense fluctuation of SCFA, at least propionate. And breastfeeding might partially contribute to gut microbiota construction and stabilization propionate metabolism in cesarean-section infants., (© 2022. Tongue images have been proved to be effective in diabetes mellitus (DM) diagnosis. Without requirement of collecting blood sample, tongue image based diagnosis approach is non-invasive and convenient for the patients. Meanwhile, the colors of tongues play an important in aiding accurate diagnosis. However, the tongues' colors fall on a small color gamut that makes it difficult for the existing color descripts to identify and distinguish the tiny difference of the tongues. To tackle this problem, we introduce a novel color descriptor by representing the colors with the clustering centers, namely color centroid points, of the color points sampled from tongue images. In order to boost the capacity of the descriptor, we extend it into three color spaces, i.e., RGB, HSV and LAB to mine a rich set of color information and exploit the complementary information among the three spaces. Since there exist correlation and complementarity among the features extracted from the three color spaces, we propose a novel multiple color features fusion method for DM diagnosis. Particularly, two projections are learned to project the multiple features to their corresponding shared and specific subspaces, in which their similarity and diversity are firstly measured by the Euclidean Distance and Hilbert Schmidt Independence Criterion (HSIC), respectively. To fully exploit the similar and complementary information, the two components are jointly transformed to their label vector, efficiently embedding the discriminant prior into the model, leading to significant improvement in the diagnosis outcomes. Experimental results on clinical tongue dataset substantiated the effectiveness of our proposed clustering-based color descriptor and the proposed multiple colors fusion approach. Overall, the proposed pipeline for the diagnosis of DM using back tongue images, achieved an average accuracy of up to 93.38%, indicating its potential toward realization of a clinical diagnostic tool for DM. Without loss generality, we also assessed the performance of the novel multiple features fusion method on two public datasets. Defocus blur detection (DBD), which aims to detect out-of-focus or in-focus pixels from a single image, has been widely applied to many vision tasks. To remove the limitation on the abundant pixel-level manual annotations, unsupervised DBD has attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, a novel deep network named Multi-patch and Multi-scale Contrastive Similarity (M2CS) learning is proposed for unsupervised DBD. Specifically, the predicted DBD mask from a generator is first exploited to re-generate two composite images by transporting the estimated clear and unclear areas from the source image to realistic full-clear and full-blurred images, respectively. To encourage these two composite images to be completely in-focus or out-of-focus, a global similarity discriminator is exploited to measure the similarity of each pair in a contrastive way, through which each two positive samples (two clear images or two blurred images) are enforced to be close while each two negative samples (a clear image and a blurred image) are inversely far. Since the global similarity discriminator only focuses on the blur-level of a whole image and there do exist some fail-detected pixels which only cover a small part of areas, a set of local similarity discriminators are further designed to measure the similarity of image patches in multiple scales. Thanks to this joint global and local strategy, as well as the contrastive similarity learning, the two composite images are more efficiently moved to be all-clear or all-blurred. Experimental results on real-world datasets substantiate the superiority of our proposed method both in quantification and visualization. Transformer-based architectures start to emerge in single image super resolution (SISR) and have achieved promising performance. However, most existing vision Transformer-based SISR methods still have two shortcomings: (1) they divide images into the same number of patches with a fixed size, which may not be optimal for restoring patches with different levels of texture richness; and (2) their position encodings treat all input tokens equally and hence, neglect the dependencies among them. This paper presents a HIPA, which stands for a novel Transformer architecture that progressively recovers the high resolution image using a hierarchical patch partition. Specifically, we build a cascaded model that processes an input image in multiple stages, where we start with tokens with small patch sizes and gradually merge them to form the full resolution. Such a hierarchical patch mechanism not only explicitly enables feature aggregation at multiple resolutions but also adaptively learns patch-aware features for different image regions, e.g., using a smaller patch for areas with fine details and a larger patch for textureless regions. Meanwhile, a new attention-based position encoding scheme for Transformer is proposed to let the network focus on which tokens should be paid more attention by assigning different weights to different tokens, which is the first time to our best knowledge. Furthermore, we also propose a multi-receptive field attention module to enlarge the convolution receptive field from different branches. The experimental results on several public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed HIPA over previous methods quantitatively and qualitatively. One of the purposes of agri-environment schemes (AESs) is to persuade farmers to make good environmental contributions. Understanding the determinants of farmer behavior and the decisions they make regarding AESs is crucial because it helps policymakers create schemes with a broader reach and a higher likelihood of achieving environmental goals. This paper aims to explore the impacts of land transfer, farmers' subjective well-being, and participation in AESs in environmentally fragile areas of China by using data of 6840 sampled farmers obtained from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). A relatively novel approach of ordinary least square (OLS), the ordered probit model approach, and the mediation effect model is used to assess the association between the land transfer mechanism, subjective well-being, and participation in AESs. The model outcomes indicate that land transfer has a considerable influence on AES involvement and that it can boost farmers' subjective well-being. The findings of our study also indicate that the marginal effect of land transfer on the subjective well-being of nonpoor households is greater than that of poor households, and the impact degree of land transfer on the subjective well-being of farmers reveals a weakening trend from east to west regions. Local conditions should be taken as guidance to effectively coordinate the regional resource allocation., (© 2022. Evidence shows that breast milk microbiota and an infant’s gut microbiota are related. This study aimed to compare the effects of breast milk microbiota on the construction and colonization of gut microbiota in newborns. In this study, 23 healthy infants were selected and divided into a breastfeeding group (13) and a mixed feeding group (10) based on the feeding method within one month of age. Infant fecal and breast milk samples were collected on the day of birth (0 day) and 30 days after birth (30 days) for 16S rRNA second-generation sequencing and SCFA detection. The results showed that Firmicutes and Actinobacteriota on day 0 and Firmicutes and Proteobacteria on 30 d dominated breast milk gut microbiota. There were correlations between the breast milk microbiota and the infant gut microbiota in each group (p < 0.05). Additionally, breast milk microbiota correlated more significantly with infants’ SCFAs in the breastfeeding group than in the mixed feeding group. This study showed that breast milk microbiota partially influences the construction of infant gut microbiota, with some key strains having a crucial influence, such as Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Enterobacter. However, the effect of breast milk microbiota on infant gut microbiota is not through direct strain transmission but has been indirectly influenced, which may be related to the cross-feeding effect mediated by SCFAs.

Topological textures have fascinated people in different areas of physics and technologies. However, the observations are limited in magnetic and solid-state ferroelectric systems. Ferroelectric nematic is the first liquid-state ferroelectric that would carry many possibilities of spatially-distributed polarization fields. Contrary to traditional magnetic or crystalline systems, anisotropic liquid crystal interactions can compete with the polarization counterparts, thereby setting a challenge in understating their interplays and the resultant topologies. Here, we discover chiral polarization meron-like structures, which appear during the emergence and growth of quasi-2D ferroelectric nematic domains. The chirality can emerge spontaneously in polar textures and can be additionally biased by introducing chiral dopants. Such micrometre-scale polarization textures are the modified electric variants of the magnetic merons. Both experimental and an extended mean-field modelling reveal that the polarization strength plays a dedicated role in determining polarization topology, providing a guide for exploring diverse polar textures in strongly-polarized liquid crystals., (© 2022. In this study we aimed to determine whether treatment with maternal Bifidobacterium bifidum TMC3115 could affect the composition of the gut microbiota and the development of the immune system and intestinal tract of offspring, and protect the offspring from IgE-mediated allergic disease. Pregnant BALB/c mice were gavaged with TMC3115 until delivery. Offspring were sensitized with ovalbumin from postnatal days 21 to 49. After maternal treatment with TMC3115, the microbiota of the offspring's feces, intestinal contents, and stomach contents (a proxy for breast milk) at the newborn and weaning stages exhibited the most change, and levels of immunoglobulin in the sera and stomach contents and of splenic cytokines, as well as the mRNA levels of colonic intestinal development indicators were all significantly altered in offspring at different stages. After sensitization with ovalbumin, there were no significant changes in the levels of serum IgE or ovalbumin-specific IgE/IgG1 in the TMC3115 group; however, IgM, the expression of intestinal development indicators, and the production of fecal short chain fatty acid (SCFA) were significantly increased, as were the relative abundances of Lactobacillus and the Lachnospiraceae NK4A136 group. Our results suggested that maternal treatment with TMC3115 could have a profound modulatory effect on the composition of the gut microbiota and the development of the immune system and intestinal tissue in offspring at different stages of development, and may induce immune tolerance to allergens in ovalbumin-stimulated offspring by modulating the gut microbiota and SCFA production., Competing Interests: LR is an employee of Hebei Inatural Bio-tech. The emerging matter category of liquid-matter ferroelectrics, i.e., ferroelectric nematics, demonstrates an unprecedented combination of fluidity and spontaneous polarization. However, unlike traditional ferroelectrics, the field-switched polarization at zero-field cannot be conserved, so the memory effect remains challenging. Here we report another new type of ferroelectric liquid crystal state, dubbed the ferroelectric smectic A phase, where the polarization is longitudinally coupled to the smectic quasi-layer order. With higher packing density, the phase exhibits higher values of refractive anisotropy and spontaneous polarization compared to the ferroelectric nematics. A delicate balance between the liquid crystal elasticity and flow viscosity enables both the switching and memory of the polarization field, thus opening the door toward realizing liquid-matter ferroelectric memory devices.

With the wide application of computational fluid dynamics in various fields and the continuous growth of the complexity of the problem and the scale of the computational grid, large-scale parallel computing came into being and became an indispensable means to solve this problem. In the numerical simulation of multi-block grids, the mapping strategy from grid block to processor is an important factor affecting the efficiency of load balancing and communication overhead. The multi-level graph partitioning algorithm is an important algorithm that introduces graph network dynamic programming to solve the load-balancing problem. This paper proposed a firefly-ant compound optimization (FaCO) algorithm for the weighted fusion of two optimization rules of the firefly and ant colony algorithm. For the graph, results after multi-level graph partitioning are transformed into a traveling salesman problem (TSP). This algorithm is used to optimize the load distribution of the solution, and finally, the rough graph segmentation is projected to obtain the most original segmentation optimization results. Although firefly algorithm (FA) and ant colony optimization (ACO), as swarm intelligence algorithms, are widely used to solve TSP problems, for the problems for which swarm intelligence algorithms easily fall into local optimization and low search accuracy, the improvement of the FaCO algorithm adjusts the weight of iterative location selection and updates the location. Experimental results on publicly available datasets such as the Oliver30 dataset and the eil51 dataset demonstrated the effectiveness of the FaCO algorithm. It is also significantly better than the commonly used firefly algorithm and other algorithms in terms of the search results and efficiency and achieves better results in optimizing the load-balancing problem of parallel computing.

Fast-response artificial phototropic materials are a promising tool for solar energy utilisation, yet their preparation remains challenging. Herein, we report the so-called photothermal domino strategy for constructing fast-response artificial phototropic materials. In this strategy, photothermal generation, heat conduction and thermal actuation are sequentially optimised by a coordination effect. For the first time, lignin-based organic radicals boosted by this coordination effect are used to significantly enhance photothermal conversion. Interfacial coordination bonds between lignin and an elastomer matrix promote interfacial heat conduction. Light-stimulated thermal actuation is significantly improved by coordination-assisted mechanical training. The prepared biomimetic phototropic material exhibits excellent phototropic ability, with a 2.5 s light-tracking process, showing great application potential for efficient solar energy utilisation. This strategy shows great significance for fabricating high-performance intelligent phototropic materials using widely available, green raw materials.

In convolutional neural networks (CNNs), generating noise for the intermediate feature is a hot research topic in improving generalization. The existing methods usually regularize the CNNs by producing multiplicative noise (regularization weights), called multiplicative regularization (Multi-Reg). However, Multi-Reg methods usually focus on improving generalization but fail to jointly consider optimization, leading to unstable learning with slow convergence. Moreover, Multi-Reg methods are not flexible enough since the regularization weights are generated from a definite manual-design distribution. Besides, most popular methods are not universal enough, because these methods are only designed for the residual networks. In this article, we, for the first time, experimentally and theoretically explore the nature of generating noise in the intermediate features for popular CNNs. We demonstrate that injecting noise in the feature space can be transformed to generating noise in the input space, and these methods regularize the networks in a Mini-batch in Mini-batch (MiM) sampling manner. Based on these observations, this article further discovers that generating multiplicative noise can easily degenerate the optimization due to its high dependence on the intermediate feature. Based on these studies, we propose a novel additional regularization (Addi-Reg) method, which can adaptively produce additional noise with low dependence on intermediate feature in CNNs by employing a series of mechanisms. Particularly, these well-designed mechanisms can stabilize the learning process in training, and our Addi-Reg method can pertinently learn the noise distributions for every layer in CNNs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed Addi-Reg method is more flexible and universal, and meanwhile achieves better generalization performance with faster convergence against the state-of-the-art Multi-Reg methods.

Background: Infiltration is important for the surgical planning and prognosis of pituitary adenomas. Differences in preoperative diagnosis have been noted. The aim of this article is to assess the accuracy of machine learning analysis of texture-derived parameters of pituitary adenoma obtained from preoperative MRI for the prediction of high infiltration., Methods: A total of 196 pituitary adenoma patients (training set: n = 176; validation set: n = 20) were enrolled in this retrospective study. In total, 4120 quantitative imaging features were extracted from CE-T1 MR images. To select the most informative features, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and variance threshold method were performed. The linear support vector machine (SVM) was used to fit the predictive model based on infiltration features. Furthermore, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was generated, and the diagnostic performance of the model was evaluated by calculating the area under the curve (AUC), accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 value., Results: A variance threshold of 0.85 was used to exclude 16 features with small differences using the LASSO algorithm, and 19 optimal features were finally selected. The SVM models for predicting high infiltration yielded an AUC of 0.86 (sensitivity: 0.81, specificity 0.79) in the training set and 0.73 (sensitivity: 0.87, specificity: 0.80) in the validation set. The four evaluation indicators of the predictive model achieved good diagnostic capabilities in the training set (accuracy: 0.80, precision: 0.82, recall: 0.81, F1 score: 0.81) and independent verification set (accuracy: 0.85, precision: 0.93, recall: 0.87, F1 score: 0.90)., Conclusions: The radiomics model developed in this study demonstrates efficacy for the prediction of pituitary adenoma infiltration. This model could potentially aid neurosurgeons in the preoperative prediction of infiltration in PAs and contribute to the selection of ideal surgical strategies., (© 2022. The Author(s).)

Gut microbiota depletion may result in cognitive impairment and emotional disorder. This study aimed to determine the possible association between host gut microbiota, cognitive function, and emotion in various life stages and its related underlying mechanisms. Seventy-five neonatal mice were randomly divided into five groups (n = 15 per group). Mice in the vehicle group were administered distilled water from birth to death, and those in the last four groups were administered antibiotic cocktail from birth to death, from birth to postnatal day (PND) 21 (infancy), from PND 21 to 56 (adolescence), and from PND 57 to 84 (adulthood), respectively. Antibiotic exposure consistently altered the gut microbiota composition and decreased the diversity of gut microbiota. Proteobacteria were the predominant bacteria instead of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes after antibiotic exposure in different life stages. Long-term and infant gut microbiota depletion resulted in anxiety- and depression-like behaviors, memory impairments, and increased expression of γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor α1 of adult mice. Long-term antibiotic exposure also significantly decreased serum interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-10, and corticosterone of adult mice. Gut microbiota depletion in adolescence resulted in anxiety-like behaviors, short-term memory decline, decreased serum interferon-γ (IFN-γ), mRNA expression of 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A, and neuropeptide Y receptor Y2 in the prefrontal cortex of adult mice. Antibiotic exposure in adulthood damaged short-term memory and decreased serum IL-10, IFN-γ, and increased γ-aminobutyric acid type B receptor 1 mRNA expression of adult mice. These results suggest that antibiotic-induced gut microbiota depletion in the long term and infancy resulted in the most severe cognitive and emotional disorders followed by depletion in adolescence and adulthood. These results also suggest that gut microbes could influence host cognitive function and emotion in a life stage-dependent manner by affecting the function of the immune system, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and the expression of neurochemicals in the brain., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic intestinal disease characterized by microbiota disturbance and intestinal mucosal damage. The current study aimed to investigate the preventive effects of Bifidobacterium bifidum BD-1 (BD-1) against long-term IBD and possible mechanism by which it alters the gut microbiota, immune response, and mucosal barrier. Our study found that early treatment of BD-1 + Ceftri (ceftriaxone followed by BD-1) and BD-1 confers a certain protective effect against the occurrence of long-term Dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis, which manifests as a decrease in inflammation scores and MPO activity levels, as well as a relatively intact intestinal epithelial structure. Moreover, compared to BD-1, Ceftri, and NS, early treatment with BD-1 + Ceftri promoted greater expression levels of mucosal barrier-related proteins [KI67, MUC2, ZO-1, secretory immunoglobulin A (slgA), Clauding-1, and Occludin], better local immune responses activation, and moderately better modulation of systemic immune responses during long-term colitis. This may be due to the fact that BD-1 + Ceftri can deliberately prolong the colonization time of some beneficial microbiota (e.g., Bifidobacterium ) and reduce the relative abundance of inflammation-related microbiota (e.g., Escherichia/Shigella and Ruminococcus ). Interestingly, we found that the changes in the gut barrier and immunity were already present immediately after early intervention with BD-1 + Ceftri, implying that early effects can persist with appropriate intervention. Furthermore, intervention with BD-1 alone in early life confers an anti-inflammatory effect to a certain degree in the long-term, which may be due to the interaction between BD-1 and the host's native gut microbiota affecting intestinal metabolites. In conclusion, BD-1 was not as effective as BD-1 + Ceftri in early life, perhaps due to its failure to fully play the role of the strain itself under the influence of the host's complex microbiota. Second-order optical nonlinearity is the essential concept for realizing modern technologies of optical wavelength conversion. The emerging helical polarization fluid, dubbed helielectric nematic, now makes it possible to design and easily fabricate various polarization structures and control their optical responses. The matter family is demonstrated as an ideal liquid platform for nonlinear optical conversion and amplification with electric-reconfigurable tunability. We here develop a universal phase matching theory and reveal a nonclassic chirality-sensitive phase-matching condition in the polarization helices through both the numerical calculation and the experimental validations. The nonlinear optical amplification can be dramatically modulated with a contrast ratio of >100:1 by an in-plane electric field. Furthermore, we employ the director relaxation under electric fields coupled with nonlinear optical simulation to clarify the topology-light interactions.
